I use circle of life in havoc because I’m the healer. I try to get aggro and I try to take pressure off my team mates in our small roaming squad. In the event I get focused down, I still heal my allies. By the way, the extra healing spring appears when you down not when you die. So it’s actually really good. In small fights—especially tpvp—downing a player is only half the battle. Stomping and resurrection plays a huge part in the meta.

How many professions immediately penalize your team for downing them? Circle of life, hakuna matata, it’s a wonderful phrase.

Expand your mind, consider the team dynamic. You’re a ranger but you don’t have to be alone anymore. Rangers got a massive buff and a few more excellent builds to work with. The wilderness survival/beastmastery ball and chain is gone. Now bears are something worth taking (they got no damage nerf at all). ANET dealt with several problems at once using traits that already exist while giving us a new grandmaster that’s also obscene for wvw in nature’s voice in havoc. No need to waste air fields or blasts anymore, save them for battle.

Finally: natural vigor is still 5 points in WS and still one of the best 5 point traits in the game. Engi’s have to spend 30 and take a grandmaster for the exact same thing. I’m pretty sure you’re thinking of zephyr’s speed.

Expand my mind? I thank you for trying to clarify my blindness regarding the recent nerf for the ranger, and Im all for trying new things. However, you need to keep in mind that not all rangers are alike. Some like to fight with some weapons more than others. My style may be completely different than yours, and still doesn’t mean Im any less professional at my class than you are. I spent many days just figuring out MY perfect build. I wanted to depend on my pet, waaay before I even knew what the term “bunker build” meant. So it affects me, and others, more than to you.

Can you in all seriousness say that this was an actual buff instead of a break? I already know the healing spring activates on down, not dead, but makes little to no difference. There are traits in there that are practically useless in PVE, even you must recognize that. While the ranger skill level must be high in order to use them effectively (that doesn’t bother me) it makes me real mad that it takes half the effort for other classes to actually succeed and be useful in a party T_T.

Honestly I was so hyped before GW2 launched, thinking “Finally, a true ranger class!”, i used to dream of roaming with my trusty pet that I could name (although we all know not even that has been added after months of the game being out). And when I realized this profession could use greatswords… I was so excited!

You know you can rename your pet right, that was available since beta weekends.

You can rename it, but the name wont stay if you change your pet. And if you go back to the renamed pet, its name will be back to juvenile.

A painful goodbye.

guys…give it a chance..sit down and do some theory crafting! you can come up with some super exciting stuff! Dont give up !

They know what state the class is in, they’ve been talking about it in SotG for long enough. They have a long-range view. Good for them. I’m not going to wait for it to come to fruition without knowing whether or not they have a roadmap. On the one hand, they admit the class is in a poor place, and on the other they make pretty sweeping negative changes without a peep. Trust level negative.

Movin’ on. Still a good game. No personal hate here, just irritation and mild frustration.

Same feeling here, I dont hate the game, it provided many hours of fun and adventure. I love my ranger very much, I dont care what others say regarding that. Some people devote emotional links between the character and the player, while others dont care much for that. Still, I will wait until they respond (IF they ever do) to all our queries, and give us an explanation of the course of the rangers. In the mean time, I’ll take a break and check the forums often.

I dont think thats what he is saying at all. he was just letting people that were previously playing a BM bunker that it is still a viable choice.

this patch has the ranger community in an uproar..and in all reality..it took me 20min to discover a new build that is even better then pre patch.

for those who have a Chub for Short Bow, this is a small setback. so its time to think outside the box. find new ways to close and open gaps..new ways to snare and root..pull..push ect.

We can figure this out..together!

Jaxx

Hey Jaxx, I would love to agree with you. And while you were able to search for your perfect build, can you tell me with all honestly that rangers weren’t hit hard by this patch? You are not disappointed at all in some of our traits that go unnoticed? I mean, what kind of purpose would a trait that creates a healing spring on death have? If my pet is my other half of my damage… why the uncompensated nerf? Why did the vigor regeneration trait be moved to a grand master trait?

A painful goodbye.

Over the screams of my enemies as my Jaguar rips them to shreds. So they nerfed maul on cats and jags F2. Who cares my pet still perma crits in stealth and maul is once every 20 secs. I didnt have any problem killing 2 thiefs at once last night and 1v1s were still a pushover (the patch didnt magically make people good).

All the patch did is exactly what the first patch did to elementalist when they tried to nerf bunkers. Slap on the hand on their suposed target build while doing more damage to the other less viable builds. Before the patch we had more options on our pets. Now our only option for dps is cats since birds got neutered hard and drakes got hit with an A-Bomb.

Ill be suprised if this is the end of the nerfing to BM builds.

Edit: In case you are wondering im still running my BM Hybrid 0/15/20/15/20 Cleric Power Build. Pretty much the same thing as in my last video.

Very offensive indeed. Basically you are saying that the many voices on the ranger forum are all delusional unskilled players who just happen to be cry babies. Good job making yourself look so pro. Is it your intention to make the rangers stay in the weak state they are in right now, compared to other classes? Do you even main as a ranger?

Hey Miiro, no one is saying that a ranger cannot fight, after all, your individual skills make the difference in small battles. The problem is that any class can do it much better now, with half the effort of your skills. When you speak like that, it tells devs that nerfing the class is ok without any reward and the pets should not be improved. Good for you, you can fight in wvw, but do not ignore the rest of us mortals.

Guys, you need to relax; the pet damage reduction was VERY needed. In fact it was an absolute must.

You see Anet intends to change the pet attack mechanic so they can now land their basic attack while moving. But due to programing difficulties they were unable to include it in this update, so it will be released in the July update.

I seem to be one of the few who are happy with the patch in general for rangers. Sure, they still need to touch up weapons other than longbow, but that doesn’t mean they won’t. As for pets, I don’t see the big idea, since the AI is far from reasonably functional still – they’re going to have to keep looking at pets regardless. Better weapons and AI in the future in exchange for a bit of pet damage? I mean, when my raven died from falling damage yesterday, I stopped caring what this update would do for pets. It’s a step forward to creating a working ranger.

Disclaimer: I didn’t say pet AI was fixed YET (afaik it wasn’t touched). Only that the fact that it wasn’t makes pet damage irrelevant so far as yet.

If you are willing to wait another month or more to get that “forward step” you speak off then sure, wait at your leisure. However, you will be stuck with the ranger unless you have alts, which explains why some are so laid back on this issue. I on the other hand made the mistake of having just ONE character. A ranger. I mastered all the abilities they can muster, suffered humiliation in dungeons when I get kicked out even before we enter the dungeon because of a guardian or mesmer is more useful, boy oh boy….

I wish I rolled a different class more than ever. I only have a small amount of time to play games, and I unluckily picked a Ranger in this one. I’m not gonna redo content so I’m just gonna move onto the next game.

I just told a guildy by phone that I wish I didn’t do the legendary long bow kudzu on this character, or get the commander book, or all those ascended pieces with this character. I wont re-roll any class either.

Im done.

what about the longbow buff? Doesn’t that count for anything?

By buffing the long bow, you mean to nerf the shortbow so that the mediocre long bow looks a bit more appealing? most of us are not foolish enough not to notice the good, but the nerfs of the ranger class as a whole far outweigh the good of the updated long bow.

I once thought that my ranger was going to be a lb/sb user all the way, but the long bow is slow, not defense capable, and weak unless you are two miles away from target.

I simply don't know what to do anymore.

What happened with phase 2 of dungeons?

Aden Celeste.3650

He said they’re gonna update the dungeons through the living story. As in giving a meaning to the changes.

Correct! I think some of you are making assumptions that living world means the stuff we’ve done the last few months and that’s all you’re going to see. My point is saying we’ve seen folks feedback and are adjusting that strategy to include a much larger mix of permanent updates going forward.

Dungeons will be part of this strategy, living world teams will be doing work on our permanent dungeons rather than them being ignored, the types of things you’re asking for will be rolled into living world updates to give a reason for them happening in the world. It simply means we’re going to be doing more of exactly what you’re asking for here in this thread, but under the context of a story of why it happens in the world, rather than just magically have it appear (as happened with AC).

Hope that helps a bit, I’m actually agreeing with a lot you, apparently that wasn’t clear enough!

Edited to add: We also plan to do a lot of reward work across the board, including on our dungeons, but we’ll go into more specific detail on that in July as a comprehensive summary.

I see! Thanks anet, now i can have my hopes back up again, since I love doing dungeon runs but some dungeons are just painfully glitchy and filled with irritating mobs with large healthpools.

GW2 Dungeons: What do you think of them?

Favorite:
Ascalonian Catacombs

Why:
This is where I learned how to fight properly. Storymode was the place where I trained myself and later my guild to fight and use all the skills at our disposal. Explorable on the other hand broke our teeths the first time we ran it. Now we can do it properly with no problems. I absolutely love the Kholer fight, although I preferred him as he was before (no adds, stronger boss). I have fond memories of soling him on every run I did.

What I don’t like:
Personally, I don’t think the spider queen is set up properly. That door should not open unless she is dead. Also her damage is a bit over the top. The spiders there were used to rally before, now its not useful for that. I dont mind their increased HP but geez they are a burden now. I hate the new stacking mentality as well. Yeah its easier and more efficient, but I don’t run dungeons just for loot. Not that I blame anyone doing it though. Path 2… HATE this boss mechanic; while others love it, it glitches on me a lot. Path 3 has serious bugs where utility skills cannot be used on medium armor classes, as well as path 1 where the party needs to protect the npc, theres a door you can go thru if bounced by a graveling.

75-100fps with everything on ultra and let me tell you that dungeon looks gorgeous. I also love Lupicus, by far the best fight in the game.

What I don’t like:
Pretty much everything else. Large HP pools for dungeon type monsters, monsters that respawn at ridiculous rates, spiders, spiders, spiders, spiders……… And Dwayna. I promise, Im sure someone at Anet is a full zerker warrior lover, because Dwayna cannot be taken down by certain groups.

GW2 Dungeons: What do you think of them?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Aden Celeste.3650

Aden Celeste.3650

Hi everyone:
I want to start by saying that I’m very interested in what everyone else thinks of the current dungeons in GW2. I love to go on dungeon runs, but many times I found myself very irritated with some dungeons. However, I have found some good looking and fun dungeon paths here and there.

So, before you comment on them, please be specific of WHY you don’t like a certain dungeon, and why you like a dungeon. You can, for example, express your thoughts about the design of a dungeon (how it looks), or the mechanics of the dungeon you like the most.

Which one is your favorite? why? and which one is the worst and why?

The list of all the dungeons below:

1- Ascalonian Catacombs
2- Caudecu’s Manor
3- Twilight Arbor
4- Sorrow’s Embrance
5- Citadel of Flame
6- Honor of the Waves
7- Crucible of Eternity
8- The Ruined City of Arah
9- Fractals of the Mists

Since I made the post, I will start like this:

Favorite:
Crucible of Eternity (All paths, even story mode)

Why:
I love the Subject Alpha Fight, the laser mechanic was very nice, the computer hacking takes teamwork to pull it off. Also, that scary female voice in the dungeon.

What I don’t like:
Some mobs have too much hp, like the initial mobs in the explorable mode. They are not a problem but they take longer than necessary. I think Path 2’s green design lacks originality, and those dusk monsters look a bit ugly honestly. I think Anet can have different designs for bosses rather than recycling regular PVE monsters and sticking a legendary status on them.

GUYS! Please use this opportunity to write smart things to add for the BLTC! A Anet employee is paying attention, lets ask for stuff that makes sense!

1- Hi Curtis! Can we have hats please? and hats that do not remove the hair of the characters. Please add a variety of hats to choose from, and nothing too freaky to wear. I myself would give 200$ just for a captains hat (similar to what generals wear in the army). I have spent probably 500$ on this game on gems JUST for vanity, you’ll be impressed what I will do with more options.

2- Can we also have more varieties of clothes, not just trench coats? Something more modern or stylish, not those freaky looking clothes that have one sided sleeves. This also includes boots, sneakers, etc.

3- Can we have different looks for quivers? Im hoping for different colors or such.

ANET, your players are very vain, so take advantage of our vanity and offer us MANY things that can make our characters look unique!

Dungeon Cheesing - Working as intended?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Aden Celeste.3650

I feel similarly to the op, I hate the constant skipping, so I decided never to run dungeons without my guild, who feels the same way. BUT I understand why people skip too: some trash mobs are so ridiculously bad they take 15 minutes to kill (exaggerating, but it might be true in some cases) and leave no rewards. Sorrows embrace and arah have probably the most obnoxious mobs I have ever seen in an mmo, not difficult by any means, just their hp pools being crazy.

I never skip kholer, or lupi, and in most dungeon runs I tend to kill everything, but only with people like minded like me. Its all optional, and everyone has options.

If at least that dwayna boss could be changed so that even low dps characters can still defeat her and some trash mobs get their hp reduced it would be great, but I think she is bugged, since she heals so fast at 50% of her health its lunacrisp to go without heavy classes.

the dungeon itself looks beautiful but it is as zabriel said, path 4 on lfg site is almost non existent, u need to go with ur guild and is far too long for a lot of people so they don’t bother.

I went with a group the other night to path 2. The party leader just said: thank God finally never returning here again! I understood his frustration, too many repeated enemies with sooo much hp, is as if anet intended to be a trial and error dungeon.

I also agree that lupicus is the saving grace of that dungeon, I just love that fight.

Dungeons, not as important as you think?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Aden Celeste.3650

I’ve always had the notion that GW2 endgame revolved around skins + WvW/PvP and that’s where the main focus is. I also have the same feelings as you; I’d love it if a new dungeon came out or some revamps made to the existing ones were made by the end of this year! Also, I’m looking forward to the in game LFG tool that will be released sometime this year as well.

In my opinion, the Devs seem to be going the right way in regards to the boss fights in dungeons, so we might just have to hold out and see which dungeon bosses they revamp. I really liked the boss mechanic for the Molten Facility + the P2 AC Ghost Eater fight which were the most recent updates along with the other AC paths as you said.

I’d venture a guess that ArenaNet is working on the dungeon aspect as we speak and I hope something amazing will be sent out… Maybe a dungeon that requires more than 5 people? Who knows? I, myself will keep waiting to see what they come up with, but I feel your pain about the staleness of dungeons after countless runs.

Quite possibly, though, it’s just our want to always have something new to play/try. Everything gets stale after a while if you think about it. I still have hope that the Devs will keep churning out great ideas and revamps that will keep us interested until the next batch rolls around.

Huh?! What are you saying? path 2 of AC is bugged beyond control, and the boss continues to reset for no reason…

They need to work on dungeons to make them bug free and improve their mechanics, but every time they do something like that, they actually make it more difficult and frustrating to play. Look at the constant CC mobs do now, check out the incredible power of that troll, the bugs of the npcs at the other 2 paths, etc.

Aden Celeste.3650

After some digging I would assume that you are more or less on the casual side and mainly played a ranger right from the release of the game. Forgive me if I’m wrong, like I said, putting things into perspective helps a lot with the discussion. The reason I said the points are subjective is because (well, they are opinions rather than facts, and they are just by definition subjective) a lot of the points you raised I don’t personally see as outstanding issues.

The problem is, as soon as you through in words like “Stressful”, “frustrating”, and “challenging” together in a general discussion without a clear reference, it becomes impossible for other people to anchor to your perspective. So say, is constant stun from graveling stressful, frustrating or challenging? Are people just referring to challenges they cannot overcome as frustrating? You seem to welcome challenges, but on the other hand it also seems like you only want challenges they way you want them or those you are comfortable with, so can they be considered as a challenge after all?

…how many times did they wipe before learning the ropes on how to pass the dungeon?

I thought this was the exact process that the people who are asking for harder/more challenging content are looking to go through. I think you just described the process of “overcoming a challenge”. People who asks for hard content are actually a lot more realistic when it comes to success or failure, because I certainly don’t think it’s the same kind of people who say “Let’s try this new hard content.” and kitten i didn’t faceroll that in the first go."

See the contradiction here? Why is thieves using stealth and mesmer using portals okay while icebow is bow is just plain OP? and btw, thieve can easily sneak in and out and push the button in CoE1 golem control room, run through the the lava in CoF 2, and twenty more scenarios, mesmer can utilize there portal all the way they want, either it be the infamous CoF 1 flame trap, or you can just portal stealth portal in any where you want. And I thought a ranger standing far sniping w/o dangering the group was what you categorized as as “brainless” and “unfun”.

Thanks for replying to my earlier post. Here, I will explain what I mean with my PO.

1) No, I do understand that some challenges need to be overcome, like Kholer for instance. He was at the right spot of making players learn the ropes and avoid danger, while making him dangerous to play too much with. The old and new gravelings on the other hand can make it so that regardless of how many stun breakers your character may have they can chain an event of knock backs, and in the old AC an chain of drop downs that will bring your character to near powerlessness. See, if it was just my point of view, there wouldn’t be so many complaints regarding the dungeons. Actually, I agree with hard content, but content that always gave way to possibilities and gave you a hint of how to manage it.

Give me your opinion regarding those gravelings, or the new HP on those spiders. How about the knockbacks on the gravelings? I know for a fact those are my complaints, yet the forums are there for anyone to speak their mind.

2) The Ice bow thing with elementalists are not mechanics like stealth and so forth, its a dps thing. If all classes were good enough for those burrows for instance, what would be the solution for 2 rangers and 3 necros to deal with those burrows with efficiency and speed?

Mind you, I have done many if not all the dungeons, but even my guild find them extremely stressing.

Part 2-

5) IT IS WRONG TO ADD A BUNCH OF SUPER-STEROID CHARGED MOBS IN A ROOM AND CALLING IT A DAY

Has anyone seen how hard it is to get a group in Cadecaus Manor? Mobs that take minutes to kill, you cant move too much since snipers shoot you harder if you move, but if you don’t the other mobs give you 10+ stacks of bleed. Is like being told “sit and roll” at the same time. Dungeons need to be challenging in the sense that a players overall skills are challenged, but that doesn’t mean every mob needs to be over-charged with power. At that point, you are testing the groups overall patience, tolerance, and drive to finish the dungeon. Besides, there are other ways to create challenging content, rather than this…

6) DUNGEONS SHOULD HAVE MECHANICS THAT USE ALL CLASSES ABILITIES

Why not create dungeons that have uses for each specialty from various classes? Like a room where a thief could easily sneak in and press that button to open the gates for a group. Or a bridge, where a mesmer can create a portal and move the entire group across, or a place where a ranger can snipe out mobs from afar without bringing danger to the team? This will, no doubt, teach new players how to use their classes to their full potential. In jumping puzzles, I use my abilities as a ranger to quickly jump from one platform to the next, and while battling I look like a grasshopper, jumping away from danger in a heartbeat!

7) BALANCE OUT THE DUNGEONS WITH ALL CLASSES IN MIND

Instead, most dungeons seem to be easier for certain classes and for some not so good. Imagine; I use a ranger in AC, I use short bow for melee ghosts, and great-sword for mages and such. For graveling burrows, I use great-sword with QZ, and ice traps to slow down the incoming gravelings. Yet it takes me YEARS (an exaggeration, I know) to eliminate a burrow, while a elementalist can use ice bow and trash it in mere seconds…
Yes, some classes are different than others, especially in DPS, yet, what can you say with a team of 5 rangers? or how about 3 Necros and 2 thieves? Will they save the NPC and destroy the burrows in time?

_FINAL WORDS_

Whenever a game company creates dungeons for their one big game, it is hard to create content that is both challenging for elite gamers and also worthwhile and fun for those willing to learn the ropes. However, I feel Anet doesn’t have a good taste of what “challenging” content really means.

Sincerely;

A fan of your game

Hello everyone, and Anet employees and balance team. Please read this article, it’s my opinion on the current state of dungeons and such.

Let me explain my point of view: I love GW2. This is the game of my dreams. It has INCREDIBLE Graphics, awesome lore and lighthearted humor with incredible landscapes and a fun battle system. Yet, why are dungeons so stressing? Look for instance Cadecaus Manor, the new AC, and the dreadful Twilight Arbor. Sure, incredibly skilled players will scroll thru it and say “Easy, Faceroll, boring, etc” but how many times did they wipe before learning the ropes on how to pass the dungeon?

1) THROWING MOBS THAT CAN BE EASILY MISTAKEN FOR THE ONES FOUND IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD AND GIVING THEM A HUGE HP BOOST IS COUNTER-INTUITIVE

Why cant the spiders in the AC dungeon and twilight arbor look different from the ones in the outside world? When a new dungeon explorer sees them for the first time, they assume it will be just as easy as the ones he killed earlier in easier level fields. Big mistake. The spiders in AC are so incredibly powerful that a new player can’t possibly make a mistake with them and now with their HP boosted, they cant rally either. It applies to all mobs in most dungeons. Yes, they have that silver, purple, gold ring on their names, but their design can make them different, thus increasing awareness to new players. “Ahhh, I never seen this guy before, I must be careful…”

2) INCREASING THE HP OF TRASH MOBS IN DUNGEONS ISN’T REALLY INTERESTING OR CHALLENGING

While I don’t like calling them “trash”, it should be fair that mobs without much importance should not take 5 minutes to destroy. This doesn’t provide challenge to most players, instead is like an artificial wall that slows down the progress of the team. Players’ don’t need those. If you (Anet) want to make players last longer in dungeons, how about creating a system where the more mobs a team of players destroy, the chances of receiving good loot at the end chest increase? Maybe that fancy door wont open unless all the spiders are destroyed? or one of them drops a key? etc. Think about this: Why do most players want to SKIP mobs and find exploits rather than fight them all? The answer is (TimeXProfit). Give them a reason to fight them all!

3) THE TOTAL HP OF BOSSES DOES NOT DEFINE HOW INTERESTING THE FIGHT WILL BE

Some bosses have little to no interesting mechanics, but their HP is ridiculously high. An example, Twilight arbor, the strange looking trees from the beginning of exp mode… Do they really need to have that much HP to create a “challenging” and “interesting” fight? When a fight becomes stressing instead of fun, you maaaaaay want to consider the overall fight. Take for example Kholer and Lupicus. They are made for groups of 5, but I had a BLAST fighting Kholer (post update). He requires me to pay attention to all his moves, and taught me how to fight properly and be patient in the fight. That fight, ANET, was a masterpiece. Still, many skipped the fight altogether in part because of the rewards and time it took to kill him.

4) DIFFICULTY SHOULD BE GRADUAL, NOT A WALL AT THE BEGINNING OF THE RACE!

Why is AC dungeon so difficult to many, and easy to few? Yes, I know, exp mode is the hard mode version of the dungeon; story mode is the easy mode. But even so, the difficulty spike in the dungeon that is easy enough for a 5 man party of lvl 35’s should be easier than… say Arah dungeon. And even so, the loot from it shouldn’t be better than those last dungeons either. *Create a latter type scale of difficulty, rather than a mountain at the beginning of the journey!*
