Camera movement causing lag?

Hi there, my current machine is the new Imac 2012, 27inch screen, gtx680mx with i7 processor. Basically all the maxed out stuff for the imac. Im currently running GW2 on bootcamp with windows 7 64bit.

My issue is that when I turn the camera a bit, the game seems to load in the objects, stoping the action and lowering the frames from 60fps constant to 45-50’s then back to 60. While this is no game breaker for me, it seems odd since Im currently playing it on ultra settings everything and I can have a constant 60fps with the exception on LA, which I get 45.

Can anyone at Anet tech support answer this?

This does affect me too, although it drops from 60FPS to 50FPS at Ultra settings. It also seems to be loading or something, since moving the camera makes the game stop for a second (or less) then play again full speed.

YES to this topic, I though I was the only one who thought the F1 being the attack and call back button was a good idea, although I say that when you press F1 again it the pet becomes passive, thus coming back to its master. ANET please do this.

WAIT GUYS

Before you continue saying the words “boring”, “easy” and so forth, I would like to point out that GW2’s difficulty is out-of-wack right now. For example, making the dragons do instant kills may not provide the challenge you guys seek, what the dragons really need is more moves, animations, different attacks, a larger health pool, and a system that works like overflow, where only about 30 or so people can fight a dragon in an instance.

If you guys want more difficulty, at least give some explanation as to how that can be accomplished, because when the players request more difficulty, Anet devs go and make it like AC dungeon, where a single tiny spider can kill you with one attack. Please be wise as to what you all request from anet.

Robert, are you seriously saying your ranger is awesome in PVP, WVW and PVE?

We use pets as a missile. Send it over to the enemy and hope its f2 skill works, if not (because its bugged out) the pet is already dead and we lost 30-40% of our damage… so its better to run.

Im sure you love your ranger as so do I, but even you must know how it feels to play with a class that is bastly subpar compared to other classes. LB #1 is weak and slow. GS is weak but has nice dodge mechanic. Pets dont survive for long in just about anything, and they count as much to our damage!

My solution would be:
1- F1 is to attack/be aggresive ONLY to the monster Im attacking. F1 is also used to call the pet back. When called back, it becomes passive and will not aggro any mobs. You can add a second or two of cd before making it aggresive again.

2- F2 special skills are instant skills with less animations.

3- F3 could be the new GUARD.

4- F4 could be anything else. Put in your ideas here folks!

5- Make pets non-aggroable if its not attacking a mob, so if its moving ahead of the player, even as aggrasive, it wont bring unexpected company towards the ranger.

6- Improve LB atk speed, and power.

7- Improve GS power as well.

8- Improve axe overall usefulness.

Sorry, I know its all about pets in this post but YOU robert, my friend, are the ONLY person we can count on right now. HELP US RANGERS, we beg you!

I believe that the developers are having a hard time figuring out what the people want. Some say “ITS TOO EASY!” others say “ITS TOO HARD”. The problem is the definition of “difficulty” and “fun, and interesting”.

I dont think AC is difficult, my skills are more than enough to allow me to survive the entire run. But the constant knocks those gravelings do, the frustration of protecting the npc in path 1 with certain classes who dont drop the graveling burrows fast enough, the bugs that happen on p3 and p2, the increased HP for trash mobs and hatchlings…

Those things are NOT challenging, nor fun, nor interesting. It makes the normal player rage and leave. The elite players will say otherwise and spoonfeed their desire for ridiculous mechanics unto the majority of casual players.

Thanks for reading guys. Please tone down AC a bit. I know many say “AC is Mind numbing easy” or “We need harder content, everything is so easy” but rest assure, these guys usually wipe at least 4 times before finishing the dungeon. I don’t believe in wiping to be successful. I own a guild, and one of my laws in the guild is “NO TEAM WIPE”. As long as there is one person alive, then the fight must continue.

it’s people like you that made me excited about AC. i was like yay… will be some fun challenge to learn new AC. and then… my first time in ‘new’ AC was huge disappointment. well the beginning was kinda ok.. those spiderlings took longer to deal with and in my opinion it’s fair – because i could 1hit them before. but everything else died so fast that i was left wondering what those forum trolls were whining about.

Would you mind telling me which mob you “one’shotted”? also, what class are you? Before, AC just needed to get some bugs cleared and made those npcs more reliable, and although Im not saying the new changes are bad, is the difficulty thats the issue. See, I never really though AC was difficult, rather that the difficulty is not in the right place.

Example: Making hatchlings have more HP doesnt make the content more “difficult”, just more frustrating. They need to learn what difficulty in a dungeon means. Not overpowered mobs that one shot you, or ridiculous mechanics that require certain classes in a group to win. Rather, genuine strategy with just about any class, and a true difficulty in which challenges players skills, NOT their hp endurance. Kholer was such an example, if you were skilled, you could solo it, but he was also the dungeons “noob killer”.

Kholer is back to the way he should be fought and changed because ANET wanted you to fight his adds. Man up! All this garbage of letting the troll kill him or pulling him away from his perch was lame. The fight is awesome and a lot of fun….it’s the blitzing PUGs that just skip everything that makes it boring.

There are multiple ways to do hodgins. Depending on how much DPS you can sacrifice you can:
– 2 Killing center Burrow and Kiting adds away from Hodgins and 3 Killing other burrows in order so they don’t double spawn till the end.
– 1 Kiting around Hodgins, 2 on either side killing burrows.

I have yet to do P3 since the patch but look forward to giving it a whirl soo.

I don’t mean to come across the wrong way but in my opinion AC was changed for the better.

Wrong. I NEVER skipped kholer, and always killed his adds. He was also much stronger before. They nerved what was fine and buffed the trash mobs that didnt need more buffs. They almost have as much HP as the silver versions of the gravelings.

Aegis on dodge is a better idea. Also, making them a bit tougher can help and faster in the sense that they can run faster and attack faster so that rangers don’t lose their damage.

PLEASE make it so that f3 makes them passive and run to your side! Everytime I call my pet back he sometimes runs a bit and attacks again, is really irritating.

Robert, can the f3 skill be used to make the pet passive as well as to come back to our side? You can add a cooldown to when the pet can be sent to battle again, even if its just a second, so that it doesn’t become overpowered.

Dear Anet. I know you guys have been thru a lot of frustrations trying to please the crowd. I’m hoping you are able to read this on your spare time and I’m sure I will be heavily criticized here soon, but here is what’s wrong with AC:

1- “Trash mobs” as they are called, have immense amounts of HP. Sure; you may say that now they are a threat, therefore the dungeon is more challenging. Wrong. Bosses and silvers can have that, but those little critters helped downed players to rally. Also, why can hatchlings do Knockbacks?

2- Hodgins. Yes, the part where you are to protect him is fine for a very well coordinated group of high dps toons. I don’t consider myself a noob at all; I love challenges and such (soloed kholer with my ranger many times, it was challenging yet fun). But the hodgins part is infuriating. You need high DPS toons to drop those graveling burrows in time, and deal with many hatchlings that drop you like a ball or bleed you to death. Try with a team of 3 rangers, one necromancer and a thief.

3- Path 3 last boss: I understand the mechanic. Yep, very nice, however, can you make the NPC not die at all? or at least, improve his survivability.

4- Kholer. Yeah, I loved this fight so much before. back then he was a challenge even to a group, and soloing him… it felt like I was fighting myself. Now with mob ads… well… no one ever complained about him before.

Ok, I been reading about people actually liking the new changes. Im up for new changes, although AC needed the LEAST changes, maybe a few bug fixes and such…

But now, it is ridiculously hard. Im all for hard content, but even my fully exotic and ascended ranger cant kill 4 spiders at spider queen, playing like a pro. Yep, someone will say: your not playing right and such… but please hear me out. It is now very difficult, maybe even discouraging. Spider queen wasnt bad before, now her poison hits like a truck. Gravelings hatchlings are extremely high on numbers and you cant even rally from them since they have higher hp. The path 1 burow sequence is ridiculous unless you have an 3 warrior setup, I havent even tried kholer yet, and that to me was the BEST boss fight in the game. Now its changed.

Indeed! I don’t even know how to express how this game rocked my gaming life. I love to play a game that allows me to explore and find hidden things like a secret cave, or a boss guarding a chest in a lonely ally, or the sound of the birds and noght creatures in many forests, etc. I had many occasions where I was so immerse in the beautiful landscapes I forgot i was actually playing a game. I have the game on ultra settings and 27 inch screen: believe me, its incredible.

Im hoping they go even further, despite the complaints and arguments. sometimes we as players forget to enjoy the game and relax. Anet has now created the standard for mmos in my humble opinion.

yes, this is a horrible issue that im actually impressed it hasnt been fixed yet. Frindlys shouldnt be selectable, also passive mobs shouldnt be selectable either (@ least not to fight it).

I agree that the trash mobs HP could be nerfed, but Exterminans point is spot on. I usually wipe the entire dungeon when I go with my guild, we really don’t like skipping anything, as it usually doesn’t help if we want to backtrack. I believe that a reward system should be put in place where the more mobs the party takes down the better the rewards. As a matter of fact, I would say to have the chest open at the end of the dungeon instead of multiple occasions, and the loot inside depends on the number of mobs killed!

I dont really understand how is the holy trinity any better than what we have here…
If a player is using a DPS character, another one is using a tanker and the thrid uses a healer… Doesnt that equate to a lack of variety? Yes, I have played WoW to death, and other MMO’s with that system, and yet I always wanted to be able to do a bit of everything. So if anyone here just wants the trinity back, shouldnt they just go PLAY something else? Why change something that has been stated it would be DIFFERENT.

Another thing, Yes, Bosses need to be improved. Some have waaaaaay too much hp and about the same moves, but there are others who are quite the challenge. A lot of you say this is an afk fest, well I would like to see ANYONE here AFK on Lupi or Kholer and I will eat my socks!

Weapon set swap

OMG, I though I was the only one to think about this… Yes, weapon set swap would be great, even if the cooldown was longer than the regular weapons swap. Im hoping Anet is hearing this out, since it doesnt really damages the balance of the game, specially if the cooldown for this is long, and it solves some issues too.

How many times have I tried as a ranger to fight from close with a monster, but am currently using lb/sb setup? I have to leave battle, which sometimes is impossible, and then GO to the menu, THEN drag the weapons, then equip my sword. And no, weapon set swap should be available in combat too, because it allows players to change their tatics depending on the monster that it is fought. Right now, if you dont know the monster, and you brought the wrong equipment, your dead.

Please ANET, read this and think about it!

I agree with this post. Most of the rangers damage is pretty weak comparing to the other classes. Pets are our companions (I have a ranger, and is the only character I use), but these pets die so quick even the spiders who shoot from far die in a blink of an eye, plus they are slow and enemies can actually dodge their fire so its pointless. Anet has already noticed and are working on this class, but even if the rangers are pathetic right now I wont switch, because I sincerely do love rangers.

I have already defeated Kholer with my ranger, and it was the most impressive fight I have ever had. However, I NEVER though of making a video for it. Why? Because immediately we will get nerfed and the bosses will be improved somehow.

i believe that each boss should somehow be soloed if the player has excellent knowledge of his skills and builds, and I hope the developers dont take that away from the players, since, as a fair game, the most skilled players should be allowed to do amazing things on their own.

Robert, if you can create amazing fights like the kholer one from AC into all the other dungeons, that would be great! and remember, is not a One hit kill boss with a billion HP that makes the challenge, but what he does and its techniques.

Hi there Anet:

Thanks for creating one of the best games I have ever played this year, and congratulations on all the awards this game has earned. Since you have given us the opportunity to express our concerns regarding the game, I will share my opinion with you all.

I think the dungeons need some SERIOUS repairs. Reasons are simple. The obvious glitches that happen constantly in AC, when the main npc (forgot his name, but hes like a wizard in path 1) doesn’t respond in the part with the broken staff; floors that stick the character in place, and cannot move at all in path 2, right before the ghosts are summoned; when in path 2 the charr female dies and gets revived, then 10 more ghosts appear in its stead… when I have a level 80 character, with all exotic gears, and skills to boot, can get shot down easily by one ghost necromancer, who seems to have so much HP……

The other one is the lvl 40 dungeon… I did the story mode, which was fun, then I did explorable and……….

I havent even done the other dungeons, but I can only imagine how horrible they must be in stressing difficulty.

In any case, I know some players will read this and say PSSH you noob, i do that dungeon with my eyes closed. Maybe, but the thing is that the dungeons are not feeling difficult as in “requires player skills to know what to do”, instead its “difficult because your character is like a rabbit, chewing on a boss that has like 3 billion hp”.

Anet, I love you guys. Please fix the dungeons. Is not to make them easier or anything, more like… accessible.

I agree with this post so much. I have been finding little things all over the place, and those little events turn out into larger and tougher adventures for my ranger. YES, it does have glitches, bugs etc, but wow what a beautiful game!

I Absolutely LOVE this game. So much hate for little things that will get fixed in the long run. Seriously, if anyone doesnt like whats going on on GW2 then just play something else and dont waste precious time barfing about it. GW2 is not for everyone, but I tell you this, I have NEVER seen such incredible artists and such imagination put into any game ever made.

ok so in path 2 when we are supposed to protect th npc while she fixes turrents, if she dies and 1: gets revived or 2: players get wiped and respawn, at least 9 or 12 new mobs appear. They are ridiculously hard as they are, let alone 10 of them.

I feel orr is soloable, hard, but is definetely possible. Im a ranger, and I survive there for long periods of time. I dont farm or anything like that, I just wanted to fight strong opponents. Still, there is this weird dizzying skill in some areas that make it impossible to fight, like the skill of a mesmer all over an area. THOSE I avoid, along some champions. BTW, I dont have ubber gear exactly…

I agree with you Avatar. Sometimes I find a champion boss somewhere far and when Im having the most trouble some hero appears out of nowhere and saves the day. I feel relieved when that happens since I don’t see many travelers often.

Thank you Aaron, you just summarized how I feel about this game. My opinion: This is the best MMO ever made. Its huge, and will only get bigger, the graphics are amazing, the imagination put into towns, dungeons, and field are almost alien… I am having a blast on it.

Yesterday (thursday) I was playing on explorable mode of the ascalonian dungeon, and some people were complaining about the bugs in the dungeon. I definitely agree that things need to be ironed out, but people get frustrated for no reason and call out threats about leaving, saying the worlds are dead, etc. I understand them, although their frustration gets out of hand.

What Im trying to say is: GIVE THEM TIME. Anet IS working on this stuff, it only makes sense that they are because it is on their best interest! Im a web developer, and when a client of mine says theres a bug in their webpage or server, it takes TIME to fix!
