What would you all add?

I would like to see peoples ideas also, only a few have suggested any so far. Even if it is another female character someone wants it would still be worth mentioning, to see what kind of female character people would rather have that they find more relatable. Unfortunately I already gave a few suggestions of my own, so repeating it again in this post would be pointless.

Only an expansion would do Palawa justice, the Living Story would not be adequate enough to tell that story in a way that players would want.

Jungle Dragon is fine, it is a lesser know unimportant dragon I see it as the perfect Living Story filler. I would rather we get such a dragon in the living story rather than ruining good stories with the restrictive development time the Living Story requires. For example good things like the Crystal Desert, Palawa Joko, Dominion of the Winds and Mursaat, should be kept on the back burner for now, till we start getting expansions.

The lighthouse isn’t there, and what’s left of old LA is barely even there anymore. The wreckage of the Breachmaker takes up half of the old area.

Old-LA is down there and even the remains of the Old-LA lighthouse can be found at the bottom of the harbor near Lion’s Gate.

There’s even a hidden tunnel in the ruins of Old-LA that’ll take you right to it. The wreckage didn’t even bury it.

It’s all still down there.

The fact it was destroyed at all proves the point, the rubble still being present does not really make things better does it?

With so many pages of posts and an obvious demand for new male leads I am interested in seeing if future Living Story updates will actually address the issue. The Living Story writers are good enough to make a fun/unique character, I personally just hope it is not just another emotionally stunted Sylvari, we all know how much Arena Net seem to love the Sylvari.

Unfortunately due to this being such a controversial topic I doubt we will ever get an official reply from the writers and actually see their opinions on the subject. I guess that is understandable, they do not want to ruffle anyone’s feathers.

Currently what I want to see introduced into the Living Story is this new Tengu mini become a fully fledged character, everyone loves Tengu. Or perhaps a unique mad Skritt mechanic from the Brisban Wildlands, the awakening of a dragon would affect Skritt in that region greatly. Or even Canach would do, if he joined the current cast of heroes he would add nicely to the group dynamic, he has a unique view of the world as evident by his actions at Southsun.

They’re in the vigil camp actually near the bonfire where the heirloom merchants are/were, there’s a conversation between the 2 of them. At least that’s where i saw em somewhere during aftermath.

Perhaps they move? Because I am 100% certain of them being at the location I described as I am standing next to them as I type this. They do not seem to have any passive dialogue and interacting them just gives a fairly generic response.

Edit – I just checked the camp, you are thinking of Moofrumaloo and Gommtoo

Every time we “win”, some major section of landscape gets (or stays) wrecked. A few more of these “victories” and there won’t be any world left on which to fight.

It’s called a pyrrhic victory. Funny story behind that term.

Orr has to stay covered with undead, it is important that is remains the same for any newcomers working through their personal story.

Well we’ve only explored like half of Orr, so ANet could create at least 2-3 more maps (attached image of Orr at present) to cover the rest of Orr, in which we have a slow progression in terms of un-tainting Orr, with Treahern at the end sitting in a lush green meadow.

You have a point, they could quite easily do this to give the impression of Orr being cleansed in new regions, but I doubt we will ever go back to Orr. I would much rather Arena Net focus on small self contained Living Story episodes that address such issues rather one large convoluted mess like we had last season.

As for other regions often being ruined I agree, at this rate in a few years everything will look like a desolate mess that no one wants to go to because it looks ugly (Essentially the Orr problem). I would rather the time and effort designers put into destroying a zone be spent making an entirely new region instead.

I would love to see Tengu as a playable race, but that is expansion material, probably involving Primordius and I do not see that happening any time soon.

Tengu have always been quite liked by the player base, so introducing one in the Living Story would be a good move by Arena Net and I think it quite likely this is where we will see Tsuru. Having a Tengu opens up more choices for the writers and could potentially give players glimpses into the lore surrounding the race.

That said he could very well be the next villain, we have no real reason to believe he will be a hero or helpful background character like Magnus/Vorpp etc.

Going to buy myself the mini as soon as it comes down in price, I would get one now but unfortunately I am not that rich!

Aedelric.1287

Yes! In fact I was going to put it in the original post but didn’t want to make it too long. I would like a Forgal without drama (living family) but in the main group of the game.

Their is nothing wrong with Forgal or wanting a character like him, but if you had a character similar to him he would still have to bring something new to the table. Something that Forgal did not have and a role that Braham does not currently fill.

This is why we need good variety of all characters in personality/class/sex, the Living story core heroes does not quite yet have that diversity where it can satisfy the majority of people.

Aedelric.1287

This is a good, constructive suggestion.

Like (almost) every post I make, just because you do not agree with some things I say does not make them less constructive.

A new competent male lead does not necessarily mean another muscular dumb Braham or Logan character. The Living Story writers are competent enough, they could come up with an interesting male character that actually adds to the group if they wanted. With an already female heavy cast and an actual demand for a new male lead I see no reason why we can not have one, a few people saying no because other games have many men I personally find unconstructive, it simply is not relevant to Guild Wars. Also, I just want to make it clear I have no desire to see any of the current female character loose their importance or focus.

I hope you do not mind I only quote one piece of your post, I already know your position from our previous discussions and I hope you can understand that I do not really want to argue is circles.

Indeed, they could have dropped the Breachmaker anywhere but they chose the ruins specifically.

I am not sure what is worse, they picked it because of the sentimental attachment people have and wanted to elicit an emotional response or they targeted it because they really dislike the previous lore in GW1.

Either way destroying almost all of what is left in a year and a half has only severed to annoy me somewhat, enough is enough, stop destroying old regions Arena Net!

Forgal is mentioned almost as much as Tybalt, the Sylvari who I already forgot the name of, no one ever mentions her, for good reason. We have yet to get a Sylvari with an actual strong likable personality, problem is that Sylvari are either emotionally kittened or insanely naive and neither qualities lend itself well to creating such a personality. I think the race chosen for Scarlet is as big an issue for disliking her as the characterization itself is.

Interesting idea. We already assume that Kasmeer’s clothing is “an illusion”(I forget the reference…) so what if Scarlet’s whole facade was an illusion?

The only fly in the ointment would be that when she died, all the illusion would fade away…unless we didn’t kill the “real” Scarlet.

Scarlet was an Engineer not a Mesmer, the most she could have done is create a holographic version of herself.

Anyway, lets hope she stays dead, she tainted enough of the Living Story with her presence already.

Edit – As for picking Sylvari, it was a strange choice by the writers. Marshal Twig was universally hated, Canach was not very well liked when introduced (Though more liked these days). Going Sylvari a third time after several failures seems senseless to me.

People say Forgal and Tybalt are amazingly well written characters, no one ever talks about that Sylvari one, you know, the irritating one that you do not know the name of. This to me shows that it is not just the character but the race at fault.

Not all pain is bad. Sometimes feeling for yourself what others have gone through is what gives you true compassion. Women have had years of nonrepresentation or token representation in many games, with the female being stupid or ditzy, a helpless girl who must always be rescued or someone whose main task is to stand around scantily clad. Maybe it’s a good thing that guys have a couple of months to feel discomfort about being treated the same way. As they say, the shoe pinches when it’s on the other foot, and here the guys are feeing the pinch. Maybe next time that they buy and play a game where it’s 4 guys and the token girl they will remember this feeling, go on the forum and say, “we want more strong female characters”!

Well, Marjory was the helpless dame in the final fight and Kas has always been the ditzy scantily clad female character, Southsun is a fine example of this. I would not say the female leads are truly ground breaking, those two were designed for sex appeal I remember the posts people made saying Marjory is so `hot´ when she was first revealed. Even young Taimi herself is almost disgustingly cute for an Asura, Rox is the most feminine Charr I have ever seen (Creepy eyes though).

I am not saying you are wrong, that women can not take the limelight, they can and can continue for all I mind. But that does not mean we should not get another male lead as even then it is still four to two. Anyway, it has been quite a few months now and it is obviously starting to pinch a number of people, myself included, so mission accomplished.

I just want to say this bit is not entirely unrelated to what you said, but it is mostly directed to others who post. People do like eye candy in games as evident but as pointed out by Leonie heterosexual women and homosexual men also also deserve some eye candy, big dumb Braham is not everyone’s cup of tea. It may not be my own personal cause of including a new male lead, but the arguments people have against including another does not address this issue, if anything telling someone they are not allowed because `mathematics/analytical papers say so´ is quite inconsiderate.

True, but that does not explain the mini pet. Arena Net rarely add and change things for no reason, the music and the mini is too much of a coincidence.

I am not saying `Dominion of the Winds´ but it will be interesting to see if anything develops from this, perhaps a new main character or Tengu getting more involved in world affairs.

I am glad to see strong female characters but as a guy it gets old not having enough representation of my gender in this game. It just makes me want to invest less into the overall story.

Isn’t that truth. As a female I have felt exactly the same thing about every game so far I’ve seen. All the main, important figures are male with a token female thrown in, who is usually inept and ditzy.

I feel your pain.

I agree with you both, which is why we should have a more even representation on both sides, with enough characters and diverse personalities so that everyone can find someone they at least partially relate to or generally just find likable. (Men and women alike)

It was a casual remark but completely on topic, it is a mini for a currently non-existent npc. A male character that could fill the role that this topic has discussed in great detail, you are completely right though, hope/speculation/etc.

But there is a gender bias in the game. It’s (presumably) not an ideological bias, it’s just a regular bias. A bias from ANet’s writers towards more female main characters than male ones (atleast currently).

I agree, I would not say it is the end of the world or anything, but it is an obvious oversight by the writers, be it intentional or not it really would be nice to have it fixed. (And by fixed I mean introduce at least one more male hero NPC, preferably not a grunting idiot like Braham.)

Perhaps a new Tengu mini could be a hint towards this? Who knows, I am semi optimistic.

We need more to the reply dialogue, especially personality options as it really is lacking.

I believe the post is about iconics and biconics. Together they are 10 characters of which 7 are female. This group is not “one small part of one videogame”, it is the main group of heroes on a videogame we care (at least to read the forums). That group is the core of the story, the poster boys. In that core I see few male heroes, only 1 that actually is still active and I don’t like it (I didn’t like any of the other 2 much either to be honest). Me, OP and others are not happy about it, that is what this thread is about, not about what men should or should not accept or what happens in another videogames.

Quite right, but some might insist on the relevancy of other games, regardless if you play or even heard of them.

All we have is Braham and not many like him.
