New games in 2014. can GW2 keep up?

Mb AvA in ESO on a huge map with copy-pasted keeps will be nice, but i could barely make myself play through starting pve stuff for a day before i turned off this clunky crap which zenimax calls a game.

You’re a spoiled gamer.

So you think he has unrealistically high expectations because of the quantity of games he has played?

Zenimax is to blame for releasing a game that does not meet the usual high Bethesda standard. ESO is going to be seen as an utter disaster several months after release, mark my words.

Braham is a bit flat as a character. Plus I don’t think he is convincing as a Norn (more like a big human). What happened to the Norn from GW1?

They got retconned when Arena Net took aboard new writers for Guild Wars 2. Braham is a fine example of the new writers at work in the Living Story.

Anyway to those that want him removed, if he was then we men have no representation in Destiny’s edge 2.0 any more!

I do not mind Marjory.

Kas on the other hand I am not a fan of, she called warriors stinky. While I (A warrior) was standing right next to her!

Kasmeer Meade: “Maybe we need a strong perfume like what I spray on a hankie when around…aromatic warriors.”

As for their relationship, that is a non-issue.

This is ultimately the comment that made me log in to respond to you, fighting for one cause because it affects you and not other causes because they don’t affect you does not make you a hypocrite or in any way wrong for doing so, I would argue hypocrisy would be if you fought for one cause and vehemently opposed similar causes, something I would argue you are doing in this thread by making it seem as though these men are somehow doing something wrong in not liking the skewed representation when you personally do not seem to like it when it occurs the other way around.

Just because you don’t fight actively for other causes regarding equality does not make your comments less valid or invalid and, all of these forms of inequality you listed clearly should not occur and it is a shame they do.

However, for example, just because a male over female inequality occurs and has occured for some time, does not make it right for the complete opposite to happen, that would still not be equality.

Agreed

Be good at the game or bad, people deserve to experience the game the way they want. The only issue I have is rewards depending on group effort rather than personal ability, this is where the source of the animosity between player skill levels reside.

The average player has no interest in getting better at the game, they just want to experience new content. Arena Net needs to re-learn how to address this, GW1 they had a hard mode and I see no reason that this mechanic could not be used to solve everyone’s various issues.

Why do some guys have so much trouble relating to women, real or fictional? We are people. It will not kill you or hurt you or diminish you to put yourselves in our shoes once in awhile, I promise.

Just people, like you.

No I do not find the female leads relatable, but I do not find the males of the living story relatable either.

Do not try making it out as someone elses failing because you personally think they are being closed minded. The whole point of a character being relatable is to have similar aspects to them you find reflected in yourself, obviously hurdle one is race, then sex then personality.

The issue here is variety of characters, literally zero female and male characters I find relatable, Braham himself is a complete idiot. We need some new characters and asking for a new more likable more competent male lead is hardly something to get up in arms about, it is not like anyone is asking for the female leads to be removed.

Guild Wars should not be held accountable for other games gender bias.

Yes, it very much should.
Guild Wars is part of an industry and culture that diminishes women and treats them as a collection of tropes rather than actual characters/persons. It is everyone’s job to do something about that.

So what about the other point I made about male characters not having equal strong characterization and qualities? You completely ignored the main point of my post.

Arena Net do not run the gaming industry and it is not their responsibility to rectify other peoples mistakes. Plus making a gender bias in their own game is actually promoting inequality, fyi.

Anyway, I do not have a problem with male or female bias so long as the characters are good and the reasoning is decently thought out. My issue is the poor quality of writing and lack of likable and competent male leads.

We have no idea if we are going to the Maguuma, at least not until Arena Net states it as fact. I did hear an unpleasant rumor that the dragon will move to LA at the end of the story, which would mean no Maguuma. Lets hope that rumor turns out to be false.

The map you used is quite an old one and does show two regions introduced last year. A few of the locations you marked are the Dominion of the Winds, which would likely only ever be used in an expansion.

Personally I am not really upset about having more female leads than male, I am just annoyed at just how poorly conceived the male leads are and that the female leads have much strong characterization and qualities.

Braham is a dolt even if some people like him, it does not stop him from being a complete useless idiot. He fawns over a horrid woman most of the living story and spolier breaks his leg in the final battle. Arena Net have only written two male characters more pathetic than him, Faren and the Minstrel.

I do not mind npcs having relationships, I just do not like any story focusing on it as it is quite irrelevant to literally anything in the game. This is a world threatened by apocalyptic dragons, we have far greater concerns.

Personally I have zero interest in Kas/Marj love interest, just like I have zero interest in the Logan/Jenna love interest. The only thing that irritates me is when it becomes the story focus, it detracts for the greater picture and makes me feel like my character is nothing but a creepy nosey eavesdropper.

At least Logans love was much more in the background rather in my face all the time. I blame the writers here, they love the characters a bit too much and have been neglecting other far more important facets of the story.

Spoilers Obviously

Good points;
Good use of heal-o-tron, elder dragon reveal, chance to take back lions arch and be a hero. Scarlet is removed from the living story at last.

Bad points;
Unskippable cutscenes, unlikable characters the main focus yet again, little character interaction compared to previous living stories, quite surprisingly the buggiest living story of this year. Yet another Scarlet focused living story, still too zergy and substantially unrewarding completion of the meta achievement.

While I agree with you about your ideals of love, I still dislike the feeling of it being forced upon me… especially when I’m playing a game online. I may not like the terminology that this Ben guy used in his post(s), but he does bring up a valid point. That scene really did feel out of place… maybe it would’ve been acceptable if the story wasn’t so cliche and didn’t feel so underwhelmingly drawn out. I participated in a lot of these living stories and acquired most of the achievements and watched just about all of the cutscenes and I didn’t feel any connection with any of the characters, including these two. It definitely felt like that scene was added there for no purpose other than a distraction/attention-grabber to be just like most fairytale endings… the story’s ending wasn’t anything beyond subpar.

You made some very good points in that post, you said almost everything I was thinking while the whole living story was playing out.

Did Living Story Hold Back Guild Wars 2?

in Living World

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

Well, for a start if you ever played TESO you would already know how bad that game is, bringing it up here as a sort of `threat´ to try and get Guild Wars 2 to change is kind of a joke.

Queen’s Jubilee and the Zepher Santum are mentioned as highlights to the living story. Zephers Sanctum I can agree with but The Queens Jubilee was horrendous, I could not stand that update, now SAB and The Lost Shores, they were good, new map, new gameplay, great ideas. That all said, the living story is not doing well, the promise was to improve and the last few updates would be the best yet. I am quite disappointed as few lessons were learned from previous releases.

The rewards have often been weak and unsatisfying, the story convoluted and lore breaking, the characters forgettable and unlikable, each release seemingly more buggy than the last and the temporary high pace nature of the content means you can never relax and enjoy at your own pace and when it is over you have nothing left to do. I am willing to give season two another shot, but the living story is quite inadequate as it stands and judging by the final four releases I am not optimistic that things will change in the future.

I appreciate Arena Net’s efforts, but putting so much work into such badly written temporary content is not a good way to go forward. For example one year of Guild Wars 2 and we received quite pitiful living story updates, some fun but mostly buggy and badly written. One year of Guild Wars 1 gave us two great fulfilling addons, Factions and Nightfall. I would happily give Arena Net the price of expansions if we could go back to the quality content releases of years past, sadly SAB and a handful of other decent updates does not equal the quality and quantity of those addons we used to get.

Technology has advanced over the years, modern computers with higher frame rates, better lighting and picture quality are much less problematic for epileptics compared to very old CRT monitors of years past.

Many photosensitive epileptics can play games, so long as games do not flash images at them constantly, they take breaks and do not play when tired.

So after looking at the atlas for a while I have to say I am not entirely upset or pleased about it.

Yes it is a novel toy and lets us explore locations and various pieces of media from living story releases. I love the art and and especially the audio clips, also the way we are able to unlock more media from finding points of interest is a nice touch.

Thing is one of the major issues players had with the living story was that story content/lore was featured on the website and not in game. This atlas hardly addresses that issue and if anything makes it slightly worse by providing a tool to explore past stories outside the game. I am not sure Arena Net learned anything from all the player complaints.

Please start putting these cool stories and tools inside the game, none of us should have to ever leave the game in order to experience more Guild Wars. Add more options to the hero panel like including this map, to be honest I would even take an ingame browser at this point.

I guess I should be happy that we have a nice new tool to explore but if anything I am more annoyed that we have more web content that I have to log out in order to experience.
