It has been a long time since I played but from what I remember Varesh was a Warmaster of Kourna (leader of Kourna) and not a Sunspear. A Sunspear Spearmarshal dresses like this;

Participation & Rewards

in WvW

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

It is great WvW at last has decent rewards, but not only are the costs of the rewards too high but the ability to earn them is so extremely time gated it feels almost pointless to aim for any of them, this is in dire need of a rebalance by team members that actually play WvW and understand the effort that is being asked of the player base. For example it takes less time to earn legendary armour than ascended WvW armour.

Most people already have full time jobs and obtaining diamond each week is literally just that.

Also the whole point of the last update was to make WvW feel more rewarding, but with some actions offering zero participation and others only thirty seconds worth. It makes players feel compelled to zerg in order to keep participation high, but even then if you need a toilet break you are punished severely by being relegated to zero participation again.

One of basic tenants of Guild Wars 2 has been play how you like, but the last few changes to WvW has gone against that philosophy. If I want to capture camps, I should be rewarded, if I want to run dollys I should be rewarded, if I want to defend a tower I should be rewarded, if I want to join a zerg or scout I should be rewarded just the same as every other player contributing.

As for players AFKing for ten minutes while participation drains, making it drain faster was not the correct solution, the correct solution was to let players keep that level of participation when they leave WvW rather than removing it entirely. What the WvW team did was punish everyone rather than fixing the cause of the AFKing.

I had fun for a good while, I used to log on each day for a couple of hours in WvW get some track progress and earn my dailies. But since the new rewards and the lack of satisfaction it has given has killed my enjoyment for it all. WvW needs from real solutions and I am taking a break from it till that happens, I would not be surprised if others are in the same boat as me.

You are not the only one, but you are also not in the majority. SAB is a lighthearted fun escape from the base game, just a shame it is not year round.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aedelric.1287

I mean, I would like to say “don’t like it, don’t do it”
but the problem with this is that it requires dev attention that’s withdrawn from raiding,

Problem is that SAB gets zero attention from dev’s it has been years since we have had new content related to it.

As for raids, it is a bane on the game, the day it was introduced to the game was a travesty. No one asked for raids and very few people bother doing them, even the raid LFG is just used for trading these days.

That said, everyone deserves the content they like, you get your rubbish raids and SAB fans should get their favourite content too.

Stop being so selfish Amaimon, the game is not made just for you.

Kill Braham, Marjory off in story

in Living World

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

Braham was never a very interesting character and recent events did nothing to improve it any. The only good interactions Braham has ever had has been with Taimi and that was only due to Taimi being funny. Kill him off or not I would be quite happy to see less of him.

Marjory is alright for now, though that could easily change.

Honestly, so long as they keep bringing back Canach and giving us some great dialogue with him, then they can do what they want with the rest of the characters.

Thing is with Guild Wars, no subscription fee means you can drop it and pick it up again later without worry. Come back when they release the next expansion, I am sure it will be much better than HoT.

What's Missing from Material Storage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

Petrified Wood and Blood Rubies are salvageable and not materials so I do not think they should be added to storage. Black Lion Tickets are a currency and should be put in the wallet and not material. Crafter’s backpack frame should not have been added to the material storage as it is a purchased item and no one should have loads to start with, but perhaps it is a bit late to change now.

The items that definitely fit in with storage are these;

All types of Doubloons. Mystic Forge Stones. Agony Infusions. Strategic Defence of the Mists. Amalgamated Gemstone.

Vision Crystals/Lesser Vision Crystal, these should have been added a long time ago.

Blade Shards, though I would much rather have a blade shard sink as I have seven stacks and putting a few piles in material storage is not going to help very much.

Gift of the Explorer + all other gift item types as they are all crafting materials.

Perhaps Augers Stone and Philosophers Stone, but being vendor items it is maybe not best suited for storage as they can be purchased when needed. But if the crafters backpack frame has a slot why not these and other purchasable mystic forge items?

Ugly Wool items would be nice to have in some kind of storage, but they are not used in crafting and fit more in with currency. Writ of experience and Tomes of Knowledge could be stored, but I would rather see a sink for them. Reclaimed metals plates and chak eggs should be placed in the currency tab and not material storage as they are not materials but currency.

None of this will fix my inventory woes, but it will certainly help for a while, especially if we get a key tab like the currency tab some day.

Arena Net, just get a small team together to work on festival updates year round. Living World has improved this year but festivals are just embarrassing in comparison to most other mainstream MMO’s which actually make fresh festival content yearly on top of their normal content updates.

A Darker Story

in Living World

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

You do not need people to die to make a dark/interesting/emotional story.

Belinda was a throwaway character that came out of nowhere, that whole story was poorly conceived. Eir’s death was blatantly obvious and completely lacked any kind of emotional punch due to the lack of her presence in the story since release. Traherene, no one liked him and because of that his whole emotional death scene felt more like a chore to click through rather than an emotional heart-string moment.

I do not see another death being the answer here, if anything characters getting killed is kind of the issue. They should just continue on as they are doing, the Living World seems to be going in the right direction now. It would be a shame to ruin it by killing off someone’s favourite character with little buildup, for example Taimi, Canach or Aurene. Any other character would be almost as meaningless as Eir’s death.

Aedelric.1287

I have to hand it to the Living Story writers, they seem to have at last found their stride, the dialogue is informative without having to spout tons of exposition, it is often amusing and always entertaining. It felt like you lost your way around the time of Scarlet and focused far too much on the teenage melodrama in previous seasons. But for season three you guys have well and truly knocked it out of the park. I am really impressed with the quality of writing and am very interested in where this is all going, so many great characters, so many questions, well done! Also please bring back Cannach for the next one, he has some of the best dialogue in the game.

The map, it uses height and gliding logically rather than crowding level upon level to simply exploit gliding like the HoT maps did. I like how it does not feel enclosed like with HoT or Bloodstone Fen and as such it feels larger. I also enjoyed the variety the map has, from a Mussat Stronghold and Skritt Pirates to a strange Circus. What I do not like is that it is yet another desolate map, this map and Bloodstone Fen are ugly. Not due to the environmental artists hard work but due to the nature of where and what the map is and I am kind of tired with desolate maps. I need some rolling hills, forests, settlements, lakes, a little life and normality in a map for a change.

With regards to hearts, I am glad they are back and the karma rewards are much better this time. I would love to see some retroactive work done to central Tyria. Replayable hearts and improved rewards, I did not know I missed them till today.

I am perhaps a little disappointed we are not getting another home instance item, I loved the bloodstone reward, would have been nice to get another like it as our home instances need some love. Voice acting is superb as always, same with sound effects and music, the audio teams never let you down. Most of the rest I liked, monsters, events, jumping puzzle and such.

In all it was a great update.

Earlier this year I almost gave up on the game, maybe it was the direction the game was headed or the massive content droughts, but now it feels like everything has changed. Substantial and good updates with current events to tide us over, you guys have won me back.

in Living World

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

I think where we are going in the next expansion is still anyone’s guess at the moment. Too many directions have been hinted at with the Living World,.

I will say it is unlikely that any dragon will be dealt with in the Living World, especially a much anticipated one like Primordus. I think this is why we have Lazarus, Arena Net know Scarlet was a failure in many ways and an antagonist like Lazarus is quite the step up.

My guess is Deldrimor and Primordus. What I want is Kralk and the Crystal Desert with season four of the Living World dealing with Palawa Joko as the main antagonist.

This patch...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

The content was great, I really enjoy the connections to Guild Wars 1 from White Mantle, Bloodstone to Jade Constructs and the secret enemy reveal at the end. Rewards are good, though could always do with more. Monster design is good and the new gliding mechanics interesting if a bit awkward. (Gliding magic attacks need to be improved and the functionality added to the other maps!)

What I do not like is the map, yet another desolate zone which unfortunately focused on the worst aspect of HoT, verticality. It is a tiny map to start with but saying it has more due to verticality does not fly with me as most of it is empty space to glide through. I will earn my home instance node and never go back, essentially because it is ugly to look at. To be clear I do not blame the talented map designers, this is just another case of the “Orr effect”.

In all it is a thumbs up from me, you did well Arena Net. I just hope the next map you add will be less Orr like and more Labyrinthine Cliffs/Timberline Falls in regards to being visually beautiful.

Has ANet Forgotten the Casual Gamers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I bought Guild Wars because it was casual friendly and had the promise of regular PvE content updates.

Beyond HoT which is not casual friendly we have had almost no PvE content added in a year and a half. Raids which by its very nature is elitist has zero appeal to the casual crowd. Arena Net have really let down a large portion of their player base with rewards and story locked behind elite content or requiring long periods of active play.

The direction they have chosen lately is not in the spirit of the game I originally purchased.

Well, not like they were an open book before, getting information from them in the past was like getting blood from a stone.

I hope Mike can make us happy with what they ship, but nothing they have shown us is giving people hope that it will happen. If the teaser is showing all we are getting then they probably would have been best not showing it as the video killed a lot of peoples enthusiasm.

Speculation helps no one, especially Arena Net. Last thing they need are people thinking up what might be in the update and other spreading that information around, it is a sure fire way to get a lot of people disappointed.

Two weeks ago I posted that we were starting integration and final testing for the Spring Quarterly Update. It’s been two busy weeks. The quarterly update is through QA and looking good. We’re going to announce the release date tomorrow.

As we prep for release, you’ll notice that we’re not doing the series of advance blog posts that we had done for some prior releases. Hopefully that’s not too surprising; I’ve written a few times since taking this role that I think our job is to delight you with what we ship, not with talk and promises.

With everything prepped now, let’s have some fun together and see some hints of what’s coming, and then we’ll see you in the game on release day.

I guess Anet never finished EoTM or the personal wardrobe, or Living Story Season 2. Anet has finished many things, and they’ve abandoned others, pretty much like every MMO I’ve ever played.

In fact, in MMOs most things aren’t really supposed to be finished. They’re always moving on.

I mean Guild Halls are finished, but they’re going to add more Guild Halls I’m sure.

Guild Halls aren’t finished, several people reported they’ve done all the upgrades and are stuck in the 60s. Unless there is another way to level.

wouldent say wardrobe is finished either since we still dont have all the spvp skins able to be unlocked.

The wardrobe is finished. That it doesn’t contain all the skins, well it’s NEVER going to contain all the skins, simply because new skins come out all the time. How many skins or which skins doesn’t mean as a feature the wardrobe isn’t finished.

White Knight much?

If it does not have every skin it makes it incomplete. Still it is not like it is the only feature that needs more work.

Actually we don’t really know if most decided the expansion was a disappointment or not. Some certainly did. The loud complaining people certainly did..but there’s no way to prove it’s a majority.

Pretty sure it’s a relatively large group of people by percentage however.

I am not sure about you but I do not see many glowing player reviews or topics that praise HoT let alone people in game spouting its virtues.

I do not believe even Arena Net thinks the expansion is truly great, which is why they have been trying to address player concerns since it’s release. I personally think the Living World can not come fast enough, the constant content droughts are damaging the game regardless of player satisfaction with HoT.

I have my fingers crossed the next expansion will be better.
