Hopefully the time saved is well spent.
It never is.
You really need to focus back on your core player base. The PvP tournament people are wonderful, and you hardcore players beating Vale Guardian and more now are wonderful players and add a lot to the game. However, your bread and butter are casual PvE players. You have abandoned them in this upgrade. The story was nice in some ways, but overall way too short and disappointing. The new maps are just grindy event chains. They are fun, but not enough. I have a guild that has survived GW1 and into GW2 we are not the same as we ever were, but we are dying with the recent changes. You are suffocating the core of your game. Whether you like to admit it or not your core is casual PvE, we love story and we love helping others meet goals. This high level focus is killing your core. You will die if you do not feed us. You are doing good things trying to help hardcore players enjoy the game more, but if you forget your casual base you will die. The game is dying now. Please, do not let Guild Wars die!
100% what this person said, feels like we have been left behind in favour of hardcore players, PvP and massive Guilds. I have not given up on GW, but Arena Net are certainly not focused on the things I loved about the game back on release.

It is amazing how they made such a great informative UI that is unobtrusive and they they just tacked this “feature” on top essentially ruining all their hard work.
Easily solved with optional settings, though that might be too logical and simple an idea for Arena Net.
HoT is okay, it has some fun moments but it is not worth full price.
Get it when it is on offer, half price or less.
Now HoT has been out a while things have settled down and Arena Net have unsurprisingly gone back to their traditional silence and ignoring community concerns.
Arena Net has always been horrendous at community relations, unfortunately they will not change it as they do not see it as broken.
It is too late to suggest a villain for season three, most of it will have already been written. It takes time to make content and season three would have had its story planned a while ago.
Every game community has bad eggs, with Guild Wars I have met far more good than bad.
You just hate fun Warlock, no need to ruin it for everyone else.
Good thing we don’t let singular individuals determine what content other people get to enjoy.
Indeed, I can not wait to see SAB!
I make no justification for stating facts.
You may not be aware but forum titles cannot be changed except by the Mods, who I am sure should they agree with your opinion will be more than happy to.
Just think next time mate.
Eir’s death was not wasted, and her death may not have been heroic but it had more meaning. Being killed Mordy infront of Braham has given him drive to defeat the Dragon and perhaps all Dragons giving a bland character more depth and forwarding his story.
Faolin being the reason for Eir’s death also creates conflict within Caithe as she loves Faolin but was a good friend to Eir. Ultimately she makes a decision to side with us and fight to avenge Eir and give peace to her love.
It also gives your own character an enemy to focus on as during much of the story Mordremoth has no face. As I said, it my not be heroic but it does have meaning, it furthers two fairly mediocre characters stories.
Anyway her death is of no great loss to me, their are more interesting characters.
However I don’t attempt to make up my own baseless statistics… the majority on the forums appears to be negative against trehearn, but is that a true majority, or just a very vocal minority? There’s no real way to know.
If people like him, they are keeping well quiet about it. The only thing I can tell from in game and the forums is that a lot of people hate him.
He was the main protagonist of my `personal story´, he took credit for my hard work and presumptuously acted like we were friends when I considered him irritating at best. I had no reason to like him, he was such a boring character too.
Edit – Anyway, Arena Net know people did not like him, which is why he got killed off. The character became a running joke since release.
One can have or leave behind a Legacy while still being alive…
Stop trying to justify it, just make the change please.
`Legacy´ implies she dies, change the title to `story´ as it is more generic and spoiler free.
She was a fairly boring character, her death is no great loss. But it does give Braham a new dimension and moves forward his story.
You just dont dispose of character that so many people love.
A good story has emotional impact, a beloved character had to die.
Would Game of Thrones been any good if they never killed off characters people liked?
Super Adventure Box.
Oh yea, I forgot he was in HoT.
The intention was to create an emotional impact, but so few like him that I think it failed entirely, he is no John Snow. If they killed off Taimi, Rytlock or even Canach, that would have been much more effective in provoking the emotional response they obviously desired.
Scarlet down, Thrahearne down, which character the community hates is going to die next?
So, what came out four years ago that was better?
Personally I think it is the best MMO on the market, perhaps the best MMO made to date.
Happy and content people play the game, most are ingame right now enjoying it.
When someone is unhappy they need somewhere to vent their frustration and the forum is the first logical destination. That is why official forums for mmo’s always seem to be so negative, happy people have little reason to make topics and interact in the forums.
If players log in to the forums to make positive posts then the content would have to have been truly exceptional to make them want to exit the game and talk about it, which does not happen often.
People want an xpac to be as big as the original game? That’s not how it works, especially in an MMO. Part of the price is future content.
Why should it not be just as big? After all it cost the same.
Future content is not part of our purchase, people that are free to play get it also. Anyway, updates and free content is commonplace in MMO’s these days, it keeps customers playing and buying store items.
Your argument would have held weight if the expansion cost half the price.
Want a hard time to earn stuff, then why did you buy Guild Wars 2? It was advertised as a game for casual players after all.
Arena Net are reasonable people and this change is a good move, it will make a lot of people happy.
I like Logan, seems like a nice guy.
Fighting a dragon or saving the one you love, I know which choice most people would make.
Dear Colin, ignore the op’s opinion it is only fair as he asks you to ignore everyone else.
FYI TheFibrewire it is not just Colin that makes decisions at Arena Net.
If they want to make Guild features only for Guilds, that is fine. But individual players, especially solo players deserve some love too.
We need a personal instance revamp with a proper player house, the ability to build new features like Guild Halls have and most importantly player decoration, we all want to show off our personal accomplishments .
I should hope so, they got a lot of feedback from the Zhaitan fight.
I do not have any legendary weapons, so this suggestion does not really affect me much. But that does not stop this being a good idea, get on it Arena Net!
Some questionable gameplay decisions going on here, no one that actually plays Guild Wars 2 would want dungeons to become obsolete and that is exactly what is going on.
You are getting quite some heat in this topic John, but deservedly so.
“Arenanet economist Johh Smith”
-facepalm-
Removing rewards for game content, only an economist would think that is a good idea for players.
This is not the first time it has happened in this game. And yet now is when you complain…
Topic is not about Faren, why would I complain about such an idiotic character here. Anyway another part of the game being more ridiculous does not forgive this, now get back on topic.
New gameplay content.
Really? There’s not enough mystery and unknown in the Guild Wars franchise? I heard some really weird comments on the lore, but that is just baffling.
Not as baffling as the nonsense they wrote for The Exalted lore, the writers kids making this stuff these days?
Reads like a fan-fiction.
The best fantasy settings have mystery and the unknown, Arena Net have been connecting everything even if it is not needed. We have humans and Glint yet again, where is the wonder when all the characters are always the same?
This just makes the world feel like a very small place. What next? Or main villain will be Traherne? Scarlet returns? More Glint?
Exalted seemed like a great addition till I read that piece.
As for it being the Mursaat city, it is a nice touch but could have been much more.
Fear of the upcoming Halloween event devaluing the rare items by potentially reintroducing them has likely cause the price to fall dramatically as people try to sell it off for a decent profit.
this will be my first halloween in Tyria so I hope it doesn’t get cancelled or anything :S
the music is really awesome and I want to try out the jumping puzzle.
It has already been confirmed that Halloween is on this year. If it is your first Halloween then you are going to love it.
Unfortunately for the rest of us the last couple of years have been fairly disappointing, no real new content just the addition of a few extremely expensive items that require a ridiculous amount of grinding. And to top it off the removal of content, Reaper’s Rumble, Ascent to Madness, Mad Memoires missions, just to name a few.
Ahh memories.
If they are going to do anything then I would much rather see them change the character select screen for the HoT release. Much in the same way they changed things back in the GW1 days.
Nah, finishing is bothersome and has no place in PvE. It makes sense in PvP were you want to show off that you beat someone, but not against NPC’s.
I would rather not waste my time waiting for a finisher to run its animation after every kill I make. I remember a lot of people on the forums being quite annoyed during the Tower of Nightmares release about being forced to use a finisher on just one NPC type, I could only imagine the rage if they had to do it on more.
Five races and two sexes making a total of ten recordings just to have one new voice pack. Couple that with the thousands of required recorded lines in Guild Wars 2 plus the thousands of additional recorded lines for HoT, makes this a very unlikely addition to the Gemstore.
As for dropping cutscene voice for the pack, that is a ridiculous suggestion as Arena Net set a certain standard in quality for their game.
The Guild Hall decoration system is great for Guilds, but what about something more personal. Will this feature be transitioned in some way to our personal instances?
Last years festival was a copy paste of the year before and the extreme grind required for specific rewards was not welcome. So basically I have zero expectations for this years Halloween, which is a shame as it used to be my favourite festival.
Plus the Mad King is going to get his limelight stolen by Mordremoth, mind you Krait stole his limelight last time.
You are grasping at strings Fortus, mounts are just not on the cards. The monsters you saw are one model giving the illusion of riding, having our characters ride an actual mount is not that simple.
Apart from the the instanced nature of the maps making them a little small for riding, the verticality of maps, caves, jumping puzzles and numerous other aspects of the game that make it ill suited to using mounts. Plus the fact we have a waypoint system renders mounts nearly pointless.
Anyway, if they are unable to create capes after all these years it is doubtful they will make mounts, which is a far less requested feature.
It was removed?
-looks at the date on the wiki-
Guess I never noticed, shows how useful the skill was.
The illusion of exclusivity, it is how they trick people into impulse buying and you are their dream customer DreamyAbaddon.
Tell someone it is their last chance and they are more likely to buy it. Nothing is ever permanently gone from the store, it all comes back eventually.
I was thinking about getting guild wars 1 and all its campaigns to play through. Along with that, the rewards would be nice to have. I’m wondering is if it is worth it to buy it, my main reason would be to get the rewards for guild wars 2. At this point, does guild wars 1 hold up and is it still worth playing?
Guild War I is a great game, but it is of its time and a lot of fondness players have for it is due to nostalgia. The game had plenty of issues and some of the writing/design decisions were objectively questionable.
I say only go back to it if you want PvP or if you want the rewards from your Hall of Monuments. Or if you want to experience the history of the world, but keep in mind some of the story is kinda bad, generally speaking the story to GW2 is much more professional.
Personally I had a great time in GW1 and I was playing it from the start till GW2 release. I can not see myself going back to it though, GW2 has just so many better systems in place, from combat and questing to map design, jumping and numerous other things.
Halloween and HoT at the same time is not much of an issue, mainly due to the fact that Halloween is just going to be a copy paste of last year. No new content means nothing new to download, so do not worry about file sizes.
It used to be my favourite time of year.
The final patch will still be fairly big Novamatrix even though we have a good bit already. Arena Net can not patch in too much too early due to potential leaks.
Most of the shows were really bad and I think I will skip whatever is on tomorrow. But it is good to know I can just read a short recap if I am interested, thank you Dulfy.
Got to say I am not a fan of the ingame advertisements, they are intrusive and an immersion killer. It would be nice if they are taken off the loading screens and out of the content guide.
Or better yet keep it all and add a game option to disable adverts.
Arena Net for some reason have great difficulty making hats or helmets with hair, do not get your hopes up.
Not sure what issue you are talking about FOX, personally I have not experienced any lag due to Free to Play. Just the usual lag free experience.
What region are you playing in? What are your system specifications? You need to give Arena Net more to work on if you expect them to fix your issue.
On the subject of content, an artist does not program a musician does not know net code and stopping HoT is not going to make any fixes come sooner. Those responsible for fixing issues and code are always working on it, regardless of what content designers are working on.
Possibly the best name yet, I like how Charr used the name Scrapper as a derogatory term and that Scrappers have taken that insult and now wear it as a badge of honour because they are proud of their inventions made from junk.
I am going to roll a new Charr Engineer specifically because I like this specialization and lore so much.
Give me a number then.
How about -you- give me a number? You are the one arguing my points as inaccurate so it is up to you to prove me wrong with statistics.
As for my proof I gave all I can, which is not bad considering I do not have access to Arena Nets metrics and neither do you. I am just stating my personal opinions and observations so just stop replying to my comments demanding information that I have no obligation to give you.
So do us both a favour and drop this pointless subject, I would much rather discuss how great SAB is with those that love it and want it back.
I didn’t see this subject addressed yet so I apologize if I missed the thread on it.
It’s quite obvious that putting NPC’s next to the bank in LA means they are going to be heard A LOT! You guys know this so their location was obviously planned… Now I have no problem with gay NPC’s in this game….. However I do have a problem with you using “children” to push your politics as though it is just an innocent game the children are playing. If you want to use adults to have this type of conversation then so be it but using children is just tasteless. I’m sure plenty of people will disagree with me… not everyone believes in God and that’s fine but many people do, so how about let’s play neutral and leave stuff like this out of the game completely… thank you for caring. Respect is a two-way street.
It is two kids playing a game, it has nothing to do with God or politics.
