Well, the Shiverpeaks, Ascalon and Kryta are three regions. Using those as an example we will no doubt get around four perhaps five large maps and probably a city. Lets not forget these areas are supposed to make use of height and have three distinct layers, essentially giving you more diverse areas to play in within the same map.

You didn’t ask anything at all. You claimed something. It is a rather large difference.

It is also extremely unlikely that they would tell us stuff like this on the forums before they release the deep dive blogs in the near future.

So “?” means nothing to you?

To be fair your topic title was not phrased as a proper question at all, it could just as easily be seen as a punctuation mistake and your post itself didn’t really help in the matter.

At best your set up of the question was extremely loaded and your post reinforced this.

It was an assumption yes, but that doesn’t make it less of a question.

You made an assumption without the desire for an answer, Lordkrall is correct in what he said.

No, it’s not claiming something, and why would i ask if i didn’t want any answers?

Regardless of interpretation, the answer remains the same. It is too early to tell, wait for the in depth stuff Arena Net releases in the near future.

Tequatl was never a hard fight because of the fight itself. The difficulty for Tequatl came from having to do it with casual-average players which that content was difficult for. That is not enjoyable for the above-average to hardcore player.

Edge of the Mists has negligible influence on the WvW matchup. It was put in place as a testing ground as well as a place to go when the WvW maps were full. It was never implemented as an equal to WvW.

Your problem is you are playing a casual friendly game and are expecting a hardcore experience.

As already stated, their is nothing sudden about this. The amount of content you get in a good expansion can take years to create.

The Living World is free content to keep us in game till expansion releases. The expansion does not follow the Living World, the Living World built up towards the expansion.

Aedelric.1287

Lately I have been seeing so many threads about Tengu and the desire to have them as a playable race

Yes, their are current topics, but it is not a sudden whim by the community, Tengu have been a much desired race since GW1 days when GW2 was first announced. The community’s opinion on races is not relay hot news. Usually the second most wanted race is Quaggan then Skritt.

Largos are very low down on my own list of desirable races. If we were not to get Tengu I would much rather see Skritt or Grawl.

Anyway, a new race is best saved for an expansion, as the Jungle dragon is next and the related race is already in game, we can skip that. As the Tengu are currently fighting Primordius minions, we would more likely see that race when an expansion for that dragon is released and as it is such an important one it will likely be the last. If they released an expansion focused on Bubbles, then the Largos/Quaggan would be a good playable race to include with it.

Still, Arena Net might never include new races, no doubt it would take monumental effort to create all the new models, textures and animate the race. Not to mention the sheer volume of content required to create personal stories and retrofit them into the living world.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

I have not completed a single daily since the change.

Usually I would run around doing things I find fun, my daily tasks would start to complete, I would look up what one I would need to get the reward and put the extra effort in to complete it. Now after a couple of hours my dailies are empty and it turns out I have to run half way around the world to do oddly specific tasks that normally I do not find fun to do. So instead of staying on to play that little extra I find myself turning off the game sooner because the effort to complete a daily is not worth the reward.

I really do not understand the logic behind this change. Was it Arena Net’s intention to make dailies less accessible, did they want people completing them less often? Because I assumed they were specifically designed to entice players into the game to play a little each day and get a reward for doing so.

I love Guild Wars, but it most definitely deserves criticism in several areas. Especially in regards to their clueless decision making process and their abysmal community relations track record.

The developers at Arena Net are wonderful people, hard working and dedicated. But those in charge do not seem to know how to manage a community. You need transparency to have trust, you need honest explanations to alleviate concerns. Being tight lipped and ignoring player concerns only adds fuel to fire. So yes the forums are full of complaints, but because that is what Arena Net have unintentionally fostered.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The new dailies seemed like a good concept, but then I logged in and instantly disliked it. The who point of dailies is an incentive for players to log on and do a little bit of playing to attain something. The lack of choice just makes players less likely to do them, Arena Net needs to get on this.

After a fourth public iteration of dailies, it boggles the mind that Arena Net have not managed to perfect it yet.

From what I understand, this is done by them adding you to their friends list (or blocking you), then your actual player name comes up for them to whisper you.

Seems like a lot of work just to rage on someone, even if I were to get mad I am just far too lazy to go through the effort to do something like that.

I say report them, toxic behavior and verbal abuse can earn them a nice Christmas present from Arena Net in the form of a temporary ban over the holiday period.

Sorry, Arena Net is not a good studio from the standpoint of a gamer, but it is probably a nice place to work at. I also agree that developers that have not yet released a game should not be eligible for the list, they have no basis of being good at anything, yet.

Should Season 2 have been monthly?

in Living World

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

Increasing Arena Nets workload would not solve the issue Blaeys, it would worsen it. They obviously do not have enough time to create 17 updates, which is why festivals have been a copy paste. It would be better to get 4 festivals and 8 living story updates with feature packs released with festivals to help pad them out, an update once a month.

More time for content creation and testing for Arena Net and a month for players to enjoy it, seems like the perfect compromise to me. Also it really bothers me that the current schedule we get updates every two weeks but randomly have a long break when Arena Net decides it is time.

I appreciate their effort, but they need to work on a better and more evenly balanced timetable for content.

Arena Nets writers are infatuated with Sylvari, Traherne was the main protagonist for the second part of the personal story. Season one of the Living Story was all about Scarlet. Most living story major roles are Sylvari Aerin, Cannach, Caithe, the Pale Tree, the list goes on. Everything seems to revolve around Sylvari and especially in regards to the current living story.

I have no idea why Arena Net focuses on them so much, they are liked by players but are by no means the fan favorite. Personally I would much rather see a story revolve around Tengu, Charr or Skritt. With luck once this Mordy story is done with we will move onto better stories involving more interesting races.

Should Season 2 have been monthly?

in Living World

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

The reason we do not get monthly updates is because during the first year of release some corporate metric obsessed member of Arena Net started telling them that after two weeks players loose interest and stop playing. So to combat this they have a two weeks schedule to retain player interest, which unfortunately they are completely incapable of providing enough quality content for, hence the regular prolonged hiatus.

Unfortunately everything has to be focused on the living story due to this two week rush, so festival events are disregarded and often are a rehash of last years with the only change being the quickest, rewards.

A monthly cycle would mean twelve episodes a year, players would have time to complete the story arc each month and four of those months (Wintersday, Haloween, Zepher, April Fools) would be festivals with proper work put into it and content added rather than rehashed. The bonus being no overly long dry spells and having to wait several months for content because of a disappointing feature pack did not grasp your attention.

Problem is they will not move a finger unless metrics say so, somewhere along the way Arena Net lost its common sense.

So, a rehash of last years Wintersday with a few small bank clutter rewards to make the tedium of playing very old content worth while.

I am fine with the living story hiatus as the story is kinda bad and I am not looking forward to it, but what I am not okay with is every festival being a clone of the last. Especially when so many other great MMO’s offer fresh festival content each year.

Guild Wars really is not standing up to other games when it comes to the quality and quantity of fresh content per year.

With a rehash of previous festivals and reduced living story episodes, I would say that when it comes to fresh content Guild Wars falls slightly behind the average active AAA MMO.

This year has been kinda pathetic for Guild Wars really. I am not going to quit, but my expectations are severely low for next year. Arena Net was my favorite game developer, but since release that positive opinion has been slowly worn away by bad decisions, silence and constantly ignoring fan wants/desires in favor of bad `metrics´ shoddy writing and lack of peer review.

Have a merry PvP Christmas everyone, after all, that is Arena Nets focus these days. I think I will spend the next month and a half in a different MMO, one that provides fresh and rewarding festival content each year.

So how does this program address the lack of developer communication from Arena Net? The program may have good intentions but effectively does the opposite of what people have been clamoring for, with an elite few feeding Arena Net information there is less reason for developer feedback on the forum.

To be honest, I have no desire to see this program come to fruition, the possibility of white knights feeding Arena Net information they only want to hear or members trying to subtly push an agenda is too great a risk. The specialist program is a job Arena Net employees should be taking on directly, this program only puts yet another layer between the developers and the actual public.
