I don’t remember that argument. In every game, the ppl who complain on the forums about EVERYTHING are like 1-2% of the total player base, while the rest of the gamers enjoy the game or uninstall it. Those games were just bad, thats it
You need to statistics better. Yes, in every game the people who complain on the forums might constitute 1% of the player base. However, the people who defend/white knight on the forums ALSO constitute 1% of the player base. These two sides on forums REPRESENT 100% of the player base as a whole, and fairly accurate metrics can be created solely from forum posts. Otherwise, games companies wouldn’t bother with them.
And its not just smaller titles like Warhammer or CoH. It also happened to SWTOR, which went from a WoW style subscription fee to Free to Play precisely because the game was poorly designed, overcharged for everything, and the player base left in droves relatively shortly after release. And this from the same guys who made KOTOR, Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, etc. SWTOR IIRC is the most expensive MMO created to date.
Forum opinion is one of the BEST litmus tests for a game’s health, when complaint threads start to dominate, the developers should recognize it as a potential major issue.
I don’t agree.
Normal players just play the game, or uninstall it and they don’t effin care about forums.
Like me, i have like 10 posts on forums since 3 years, since i don’t feel i need to post sth. Just came today since it is a HoT prepurchase day and saw this drama on forums
You may not agree, but that does not make him wrong.

I was expecting $40 and assuming it would come with a character slot. If I was wrong about just one of those things it would still be an automatic buy. As it is I am Going to have to think about it, although I probably will get it.
I think part of the problem may be that we have got so very little in game over the past five months that this has hit us at the wrong psychological moment. I’m already down to just logging in for dailies, this latest buzz kill might stop even that. I’m more sad than angry.
You captured everything on my mind.

The price is not fine, it is borderline.
If it was fine people would not be complaining.
Eye of the North which was an expansion, did not come with a base game and was a lot cheaper than HoT.

I already own GW2, I would prefer an upgrade only version.
The fact they they would put those items up for sale at all would grant more income, currently they are unavailable, which means zero income.
Are you sure a happy customer spends more money then customers who enjoy/think somethings cool, and buy it because it’s listed as “limited time”?
Do you have any proof that permanent = more income? Many minitures are not permanent additions to the gem store, many items are also not permanent… I have a feeling there is financial reason backing this decision. Which leads one to believe, impulse/I don’t want to miss it buys sell very very well.
Are you serious?
Permanent = More Income for Arena Net.
Miniature Super Trio
Miniature Super Trio – World 2
World 1 Super Boom Box
World 2 Super Boom Box
Infinite Continue Coin
Super Adventure Box o’ Fun
Permanent Super Explosive Finisher
The bonus is that they will make many fans happy and that is all that game developers want, a happy customer spends more.
Yes, you gave what I asked for, and I comment on why it is not the same as this situation.
But, again. You never asked for examples that were the same as this situation.
Maybe I should have been clearer.
Maybe you should have been clearer? Maybe? Really, you’re going with only a maybe?
How about this. If all you actually want to do is waste my time? If all you want to do is be vague so you can then move the goalpost because all you want to do is throw all the examples out? Then don’t even bother asking the question.
Obviously he will squirm and change the goal, you did not give him the answer he finds acceptable and lines up with his world view.
It is irrelevant what Arena Net did to satisfy the player base, the fact that they have is enough.
Every vote matters
Not really, a handful of people disliking it is kinda irrelevant as it is optional content. I hate PvP, but me being vocal about it is not going to have it removed from the game as some people like it. And I know I am not alone is hating PvP.
Anyway, look at the massive SAB topic and countless smaller topics asking for its return that get locked, SAB obviously has tons of players supporting it. Not to mention the regular SAB riots in game and the fact that Arena Net themselves love SAB.
SAB will definitely come back so you and your friend will just have to suck it up Lampshade. Unfortunately for most of us, we will have to wait a while for it.
It always surprises me when people try to deny other people the content they enjoy, as though their voice and money are of more value to Arena Net. We all deserve the content we like.
Well, this year April Fools was a disaster, lets hope next year will be an improvement.
SAB was terrible. I hate it and so does a lot of the community. Just we don’t whine on the forums like a spoiled child when we don’t get something.
You mean very few of the community hate it, almost everyone I know and met love SAB.
The only spoiled child here is you, demanding that content others like not be added because their opinions do not match your own.
Bending to the will of player rage is an exceptionally negative way of putting it.
Arena Net likes to please its customers and has gone out of their way to accomplish this in the past. Any good developer listens to its community and tries to give them what they want, only an idiot would think that is a bad idea. The happier the customers, the more likely they spend money.
Arena Net are focusing on HoT, almost all resources are focused on it, once released we will no doubt see the return of fan favorites like SAB. But truth be told I personally would prefer to see it return sooner rather than later, but I doubt work will begin till after HoT and even then it will take months to create the content.
Just because a few people are not offended, does not stop the joke being offensive.
Arena Net could have done anything they wanted, but they chose a subject that was sensitive. The fact is they were inconsiderate, hopefully in the future they will just give everyone SAB, that is all most people want anyway.
It is too soon, plain and simple.
The joke’s based on an old bug from 2012. (Link)
That does not stop it being offensive, obviously it was unintentional, but that does not stop it being very inconsiderate of Arena Net to still go ahead with the “joke”.
As a joke it still is not that good, most people find the effect and sounds aggravating regardless of the recent crash.
Arena Net would have offended far less people if they just added SAB back again.
How far we have come from a celebrated and loved first April fools to an extremely controversial April fools today.
It’s like Guild Wars II is run by a different company.
It is too soon, plain and simple.
Tragedies happens every single day.
Going by this logic they would never be able to release anything at all, since it will always be possible to make a connection to said tragedy.
Such a lack of empathy, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Yes this is extremely insensitive, Arena Net had plenty of time to pull this joke and do something different but decided to go ahead anyway.
It is obviously unintentional but definitely is quite insensitive to have such a joke so soon after the crash.
In short, ESO is great if you LOVE PvE
Problem is that ESO is not great if you love PvE. The PvE is only barely adequate but mostly just tedious.
I just watched the interview, so according to Colin we will be getting live updates but no living world, at least that is clear and fact.
Thanks Bahol and Lordkrall.
Joe I love your stuff but I have to say I think you go way too easy on ArenaNet! Compare this interview to your Paradox interview and I think you’ll see what I mean.
He was easier on Arena Net, but to Arena Nets credit they have never released an completely broken game.
I look forward to the day when Arena Net adds an option to disable backpack cosmetics for other characters, including sound for those that have it.
There will be no Living Story episodes released before the expansion.
I must have missed the bit where Arena Net made that statement, care to point out the article or interview where it is said?
Not that I do not believe you, but this is the internet.
I am not colour blind, but I just want to say I support the idea for a colour blind mode toggle in the options menu.
Open the box already!
Rubi, getting distracted while talking is to be expected as both things require a certain amount of concentration. Which is why I think you need to borrow someone to play the game off screen while you all talk, they can be completely focused on showing what is needed and the bonus is that when you are on the live server they can move the screen when players start to spam as the last time it happened it was incredibly distracting.
I have to admit I was a bit disappointed that I got to see so very little, but hopefully the next sneak peak will be better, especially if you show us the much desired hang gliding.
Seems to me IGN misinterpreted and said new race rather than civilization, the name of the race itself sounds like Hylek and the jungle frog people do look like a subspecies of Hylek.
The video was a nice watch though, hope Arena Net throw it up on their Youtube channel soon. I am not a big fan of IGN and I am not keen on giving them clicks and views just for that video.
That’s a sword.
Agreed, what I saw was a sword.

It does sound like someone whispering Cantha, but it was probably complete accident generated by the various effects going on in that scene.
Angry Joe’s opinion can generally be trusted, but the problem is in this case is that he knows as little as we do.
It seems likely an Elder Dragon will be the focus of each expansion, but that does not mean it definitely will be. Tyria has many threats and many locations worth exploring that have little to do with the Elder Dragons, lets also not forget places like Elona and Cantha.
The only good Quaggan is a dead Quaggan.

As far as I know you still get to play the content you purchased INF, you have no grounds to complain, especially since Arena Net never said they would give away free expansions, you can not blame them for your own misunderstanding.
I spend 60 euro on my original copy of GW2 and spent over 1500 hours playing, that is exceptionally good value for money. Considering the standard Arena Net have set and the value for money you have already experienced, I have to wonder why anyone would not be prepared to fork over 30-40 euro for an expansion.
Pre-purchase will probably be the only way to get beta access. As said before, just wait till they give more details.
Pamela, you will have other means for advancing your character with Specializations and the Mastery System, a level cap increase is not needed.
Yes, some people like to see numbers increase, but Guild Wars is not about that. With a new level cap new gear grind would be introduced effectively invalidating the hard work people have put into obtaining their armour and weapons. What Arena Net have done is include systems that makes your current character still relevant and have progression you can aim for.
The fun is in the adventure not the statistics and I think Arena Net have selected a sensible and considerate approach.
I doubt we would get any difference in statistics as the gameplay mechanic probably requires it to function in a very specific way, for missions, objectives and such.
As for aesthetic looks, no doubt they will add that. Coming to a gem stone near you.

Just after my holidays then, that would be great if true as I do not have access to my computer during that time.
Yes, they are far too secretive.
The forum complaints last year are and extremely bad warning sign that Arena Net needs to work on community relations. I think Arena Nets problem is that they obviously have no clue on what information to give and what to withhold. Since incorrect information can harm, they instead decide to keep back all information, even truly basic things like “we are working on an expansion” or “new class incoming”.
Arena Net needs to change, how they handle things currently simply does not work.
Q: How does the release of the expansion impact the living world story? Also will the schedule for the living world be affected upon the expansion release?
They can and have done a MOBA style mini-game, Reaper’s Rumble.
For some reason it never made a return.
You are grasping at strings Macee.
Bioware did not invent horns and DA2 Flemeth looks nothing like the redesigned Mursaat.
“Too small to be an Expansion”
You do not even know how much content is going to be in the expansion beyond the features.
I have the tomes to get to level 50 or so, but I am going to level the hard way and enjoy it.
No tomes, no boosts or transferred items, complete run through the personal story, Living world then expansion. Though probably not till the main missions of the expansion are completed on my main .
I like Logan, I also like Rytlock, they make an interesting pair.
Logan does not deserve the hate, nothing the character has done is bad, he whines far less than Kas and Jory.
I just finished mine today, it was quite a feeling of accomplishment and I am glad I have it, even though the visual is disabled on my character as I personally think it looks fairly ugly.
Is it worth it? Nope, the items it grants with Maudrey II are not of value, the stats of the back piece are not spectacular, the quantity of resources required are also extremely high as you need high levels of crafting or plenty of money. As for the visual look of the item, it is.. an acquired taste.
That said if you have plenty of time and money I say go for it, especially if you were suffering in bank space because your bloodstone dust is taking up two full tabs.
“We won’t have an expansion because we can add everything through the Living Story”
Well, clearly they couldn’t.
And where did that quote come from? I have no memory of them ever stating this, only that they had a number of projects they are working on in conjunction with the Living World.
Either you can provide a citation for your quote or you can stop making up things that Arena Net were meant to have said.

I am fine with a direct digital purchase through the gem store but only with traditional payment methods such as paypal/paysafe card/credit card or what have you, just not for gems.
I would rather not have the gem/gold exchange rate drastically change. That said perhaps a delux edition upgrade would be okay, like with the basic game.
“Are you going to buy HoT?”
Are you joking?
Clearly I am going to buy it, I would not be on the official forums reading and posting if I was not a diehard fan.
