Yes there are idiots but getting abused and intimidated all the time? It has never happened to me. Exactly why are people gravitating to you? Do you say a bunch of stupid stuff in chat or something? I’m puzzled.
I am actually puzzled too why he got abused so many times? So far, in the 3 years I have been playing, I only got trolled a few times and once I got screamed at for not rezzing a party member in a middle of a fight between a boss character. Lol.
I can’t say I’ve had more than a few jerkfaces in map chat and one on the forums myself but I’m pretty introverted. Someone who actually seeks out lots of interaction might have a few more experiences. There are people online who specifically decide to target someone whether they visibly react or not because.. well.. they’re immature bratheads with enough issues for a subscription but I’m thinking those aren’t the types OP is running into.

While I agree that points 2 and 3 are too far, saying “boys will be boys” and “deal with it” are condoning a toxic environment are are just as bad so knock it off :p
As to how to deal, pretty much what others have said – if it’s extreme, document and submit to Anet. If it’s not, block, report, move on. Learning to ignore helps, becoming a little tougher helps, but it’s not a black or white issue.

Yeah, stop that, let the OP be upset. A bunch of all all had patch shock after we logged in and found our characters changed.

Yeah, he’s back to normal pretty much and while I welcome it, I have to say that week of harder Teq wasn’t entirely bad even if it started out that way. I’m beginning to think we should have a hardmode Teq guild spawn or something..

I’m not sure who’s worse – the oversensitive types who used “triggered” as another word for upset or offended and minimize real PTSD sufferers or the edgy in your face types who make fun of the oversensitive types by using “triggered” and minimize real PTSD sufferers.
Either way, tired of both :p

Surely it is but if you have a chronic offender who adds you and follows you, might be a problem. Not that I’ve ever seen that or a player with that little of a life to do that… shrug
It does happen, sometimes, unfortunately and it’s obviously not something anyone should have to put up with.
I’m really sorry to hear that. I’d hope in an extreme case such as that, there would be measures available.

Here’s where I’d post my success at Teq since patch…
If I hadn’t gotten a server crash on an organized map.
I ended up on the worst pug map I’ve ever seen when I got back in. No planning. No defenses. No plans to bother until five minutes before.
I have seen PUG Heck and it wasn’t pretty. I fled.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
That’s a bit extreme but there are people who do that just to be jerks, usually because they’ve been informed they’ve been blocked or reported. Probably can’t be proved but could be solved by an optional de-render.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
How about people stop being jerks? Oh wait, too much to ask, let’s victim blame instead. Grow a thicker skin, get off the internet, blah blah blah… What seems to stop troll behavior is when not only does no one react they way they want but the group as a whole shuts them down and doesn’t support their behavior.
I report verbal abuse, I block, I move on, I don’t even inform the jerkface they’ve been reported. That’s all that’s available for me to do and Anet can deal with it fine. Some jerkfaces have gotten to me but karma seems to teeth kick them eventually.

But they can never get rid of exploits. People will always find a way to cheese something and if you are cheesing something hard, you’re the one who is ruining the difficulty. That’s on you. I can sit in the corner in Zelda 2 and kill the final boss with no risk to myself or I can try to fight him head on – which do you think is more rewarding?
Don’t get me wrong – I think there should be heroic modes of the dungeons but I’m pretty sure even that wouldn’t be enough for people. If you want them to create something huge and impossible that only ten people in the community can do.. well.. um… no. That’s not happening. This game isn’t centered around exclusion.

Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
If people want hardcore dungeons, fine, but I assure you that in a week they will have ferreted out tons of exploits and begun farming them. Then the cry of “GW2 caters to casuals” and “Why is there no hard content!!!11” begins all over again and that’s frustrating to everyone else.
I agree with WP on the PS – you get a group together and you slaughter everything in PS. Forcing it to be level locked didn’t help at all but then again, if you are on an alt and all min/maxed out for your level.. yeah, you’re going to kill everything. The first time player isn’t. There should be some happy middle ground there instead of what we have now.
Content that only a minority can complete – Don’t we already have this? I distinctly remember a lot of hardcore content that I can’t do or that require a lot of co-ordination and skill being in game – Queen’s gauntlet, SAB tribulation mode, Not so secret, Aetherblade path, Fractals that involve AR, Most of Arah, Skipping stones, Triple Trouble, Marionette etc etc etc ETC. I’m all for more of it but it needs to be optional and without any story attached because I likely will be locked out. Which is fine but don’t punish me by taking away the story of the game. I’m looking at you, Aether path.

Teq victory last night. It involved a lot and I mean A LOT of herding. I felt like a 1st grade teacher. People waypointing when dead made an absolute huge difference as did turrets actually using cleanse but sometimes, getting pugs to listen is frustrating as crap.
Crit spot being fixed should help, maybe a 75% hp increase instead of 100%.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
Actually, what will happen is we’ll destroy all the Elder Dragons one by one, creating unbalance in Tyria. Trahearne, solely out of the goodness of his chosen saintly planty heart, will then throw himself into a pool of magical energy after pushing us out of the way and become a dragon god himself who will be worshipped as Dwayna’s beloved pet in Guild Wars 3.

Well, zerg is going to be zerker only now by default which isn’t a thing I can do well so that rather stinks but defense works.
You only need 40% Crit, 200% Crit damage, and 2100~ power to be a ‘good’ zerker. Split the difference on Defense and HP and you wont get stomped to death.
Add in Bloodlust for more power, create a build that allowed for defense (Stability, Cleanse, Reflects) and you really shouldn’t have an issue being in the zerg if everyone is working together and chaining defensive skills.
I do feel the day of the 100% berserker is dead though. If your face rolling on the floor your not doing damage and I just cant see how players are surviving with a 100% berserker stat builds with the recent changes.
I did not know this. I’d always been told “100% zerk or gtfo”.
I might try this now, thank you!

Teq went down on my TC map because people listened. People WPed. People stood in the crit spot. 90% of the map did exactly as told. We also had a finger killing squad too. It was pretty awesome and it’d be great to count on players like this showing.
We’ll see.

Well yeah, everyone playing is smart enough to know how to use Google to get a guide but that line did come off a bit salty so I see why Vayne took it that way.
But everyone can’t breeze through all content. I have reflex and depth perception issues so I didn’t breeze through LS season 2, I don’t breeze through JPs, and anything that requires pinpoint movement is a no-go. Oh, but I can listen, follow instructions, solve logic problems, use strategy, and Google if I have to. I’ve also improved greatly since n00b me joined in 2012. I still don’t see the need to do spreadsheets and min/max to death but, well, I’m not MLG.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
Personally I do like going in blind but I won’t intentionally kitten myself I.E if your average joe player using a guide can do it in 30 minutes, I’m not going to spend 4 hours discovering it myself for no additional reward.
I thought the reward was conquering the challenge itself, the experience and getting better each time as you adapt your play style more and more and choose whether to challenge yourself more by imposing handicaps/limits, to play normally, or to begin cheesing it just because you can, not anything sparkly or shiny. If Average Joe has optimized it in 30 minutes to a soulless, machine-like efficiency task of pushing buttons and stacking then great for him but what’s the point other than a gold grind? That’s not a challenge at all nor is it any fun, that’s as bad as AFKing and pressing 1 to win.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
If you’re saying “I want a challenge” and then telling others to watch youtube videos of dungeons so they can get on your level because that’s what you do before you set foot in one to learn the most efficient route and where to stack… then no, no you don’t actually want a challenge. You want artificial difficulty like double HP or you want something you have to google a guide for and follow to the letter and a ungodly trove of treasure for doing so. If you wanted a challenge, you’d want to figure things out yourself or do it the hard way on purpose. Good lord, wasn’t anyone else born before you could just google how to beat video games on the internet?
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
I’m really sorry for the frustration of everyone failing. I stopped doing my 1-3x daily Teq because I do Teq to engage in a co-operative event, have fun, use tactics, and kill a dragon and that upscale made it toxic and frustration unless you get lucky and wander into a guild map or one with the best pugs ever.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
Psssttt.. you can use the weird letters with dashes and stuff over them…
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
It’s doable because I just did it with a group (unless there’s some other bug I don’t know about)..
BUT
It takes more organization and if you get players unwilling to listen at all, kiss it goodbye. I got lucky to walk into a guild and their friends doing it and trust me, that makes all the difference. We finished with about 4 min on the clock.

The mistake is, again, assuming that there are only lazy unskilled casuals who want to press one and win every time and hardcore/vets who want teeth grinding hard content and are the only ones who enjoy challenge with absolutely no in-between.
The problem is there is a massive gray area of players who find pressing 111 to win horribly boring but want a moderate challenge with a slight chance of failure and mechanics they may need to adapt to but not to the point of having to be absolutely perfect to succeed. That’s where I am. I don’t want easy peesy press one to win but the heck if I want Guild Souls 2 either and here is someone else forgetting players like me exist. We get lumped into ‘casual’ – stop that! I want hardcores to have their content but I don’t exactly want to be left behind either with the no challenge at all crowd.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
So add a hard mode dungeon or instance that isn’t required and doesn’t add to the story or general gaming experience. I thought that’s what high level fractals were anyhow. That’s totally cool with me, heck I argued to not nerf the Queen’s Gauntlet or SAB Tribulation mode even though I could never enjoy either one because those players needed something too and I lost out on nothing storywise by missing them. Aether angered me because there was story in there I wanted to experience and no one would run it without zerk/stacking/etc (which are ways of cheesing difficult content anyhow) so I missed out.
And I agree with Wooden Potatoes too, personal story is too easy and level locking it made that worse. Aside from a few minor tweaks that had to be done, PS was fine and it was fun to do it underleveled for a challenge or overlevelled when you just wanted to run through it. Living Story Season Two had that Shadow of the Dragon solo fight which is gross and hard and made me scream in frustration and a lot of other crap that was either harder or bugged (Maj.. Kas.. stop talking on the wall in Kessex and watching Belinda die and not doing anything, you’re supposed to be helping me fight here).
I’m not for locking skilled but not hardcore players out of content that involves story though but by all means, add other stuff!

‘Hardcores’ in this game refuse to accept there’s a gray area between extremely casual players and them. Don’t even try to fight that, it’s an kitten thing. Everyone who isn’t them is a “mouth breathing faceroller who is lazy and wants free loot for pressing 1”.
Anet needs to create a Guild Souls 2 mode for them which is extremely punishing and can’t be cheesed. That last one is super important because every time I see hardmode content, it’s abused and cheesed to be faster and easier by people who scream “I want a challenge!”.
But seriously, this game is always going to be middle ground between extreme casuals and hardcores and that’s what most of it should be. The players in the gray area are the most numerous and we don’t want easy 2 win content but we don’t want rip your guts out Nintendo Hard either. PS right now isn’t challenging and I’ll agree.. the Wyvern event and chain was fantastic! This is what I want more of!

Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
It’s not happening. Too many people used it unknowingly and to say “well don’t play Guardian then” isn’t going to fly. People use exploits, bugs, and glitches all the time. What, did you think you were supposed to be able to kill the mobs in CM through the wall?
What’s going to matter is… did people over abuse it for a significant, above average gain that affected the economy? And the answer is likely going to be.. no. I’m not getting any more treasure than I was pre-patch and I’m not going into PVP or WvW to Guardian Gang folks. I’m just doing the same things I do every day… except Teq now dies in 5 minutes.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
No one really knew about the bug then. You could have been unknowingly benefiting from it. You would have been if I was there because I like to run hammer and I would have had no idea. The thing is that no one really knew so any Teq run – any at all before it became public knowledge – could have been buffed by the exploit. Best thing to do now to prove fast Teq runs is to make sure the map has no Guardians at all – an organized guild surely could pull that one off, yes?
And LOL at the ‘n00bs’ comment, I was wondering when the insults would return.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
Oh I believe that it’s possible without the exploit, no doubt though it would take 100 equally skilled players, but I also know that every jerk who was here launching personal insults and crying ‘git gud’ suddenly shut up after the bug got outed. So I’m inclined to believe a lot of successes knowingly or unknowingly were caused by the bug and they realize this now. Teq’s double health can’t really be judged as too much or too little until the bug is patched.
That brings up a new challenge for hardcores though – Teq run, NO guardians (or engis if you want to be real hardcore) on map.

I never understood why exploits, bugs, and skipping were part of “hardcore” anyhow. The whole idea of a challenge is tackling something where all the odds are greatly against you and sometimes, even purposely hindering yourself to reduce your chances of winning.
