Map restriction - ANet doesn't value my time

People QQ if content requires time and effort. “We have lives, we can’t play all day. Give us simple things we can actually finish”

People QQ if content holds your hand and gives you achieves easily. “No challenge or skills needed in this game, just easymode. Give us hard content!”

Anet can’t win here. They took the middle road with this one – requires effort and teamwork but can be completed by non-hardcores – and still both sides do nothing but complain.

OP – I’m going to be slightly mean but I’m honestly tired of “make achieves/Living Story easier”. It’s practically being handed to people at this point with even failed invasions counting for some of those. The map does need to be fixed because it’s grating on almost everyone but I sincerely doubt “farmers” are the cause of the map rotation being frustrating.

And to agree with others.. an hour a day isn’t going to get everything done content wise nor should it. Took me about three days to get Vorpp’s deal done and Scarlet’s Playhouse, four to get the meta achieve.

Mindless? Obviously we are playing two different games. Those AB strikers… Even in a big Zerg there are aoe circles everywhere and trying to avoid them while tagging all you can is hardly mindless. Have to stay on your toes dodging this way and that. Maybe you’re playing a staff guardian but I’m playing a trapper ranger with a handicapped AI pet. So, yeah. Try a trapper build ranger and maybe you’ll change your mind on it being mindless, but who am I kidding? It’s the Internet and you’ll continue to QQ about farmers.

Pfff I have a Staff Guardian and I don’t get to do the mindless part either. Constantly avoiding aoe circles, looking out for fallen players who need healing, making certain to tag and hit what I can or try to draw enemies away from single players.. etc etc. Lots of dodging, running about and being aware of surroundings.

I’ve only seen one fail due to people farming. The other fails were due to:

-Laziness (Oh it’s an overflow lol, why try?)
-Laziness (REZ PLZ, take the time to destroy all these enemies even though I’m literally next to a WP and the red circle is gone)
-Laziness (We’re just gonna follow the commander tag and not bother to see where there are actual mobs)
-Laziness (Why bother to organize? Zergfest 2)
-Ragequitters (YOU all stink! This server stinks! I’m transferring! I’m gonna start a pointless argument!)
-Clueless participants with no one willing to take charge and educate them on how the event works (IT’S SCARLET! EVERYONE ATTACK! Oh why did she leave? Where do I go now?)

Players don’t get how this event works, a lot don’t have map completion and few commanders actually lead… and people are going to blame those who farm Aethers for a bit?

My only issue is that now I will see other people BEFORE I see enemies and in the invasion events, I often see a bunch of players all dressed alike blasting and attacking thin air or enemy models standing completely still.

Outside of massive zerg events, it’s perfectly fine. In fact, I put my settings up higher and didn’t have a lick of lag. Culling for zerg-y events might be nice though…

Not sure why “sexy” is a requirement. Nor, do I see why it should be the first requirement in a villain.

It makes us feel that this villain would have her/his influence and we’d better be on our toes.

The Illusive Man from Mass Effect is a “smexy” example for this.

Alright, I know I shouldn’t be expecting Mass Effect quality of writing in a MMO, but, but….is it really too much to ask for a top-class story in a top-class game?

So only attractive and sexy villains are a real threat? You’re not asking for a story, you’re asking for fap material – biiiig difference.

Here, here’s your copy of Generic JRPG XIII-7 Pretty Bouncy Bikini Armor Babes, go play it and we’ll enjoy GW2 okay?

This event has brought out the worst of GW2

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Aerlen.5326

Aerlen.5326

So the answer is, if we couldn’t farm aethers, we wouldn’t even be there.

Ok, bye.

Right now, each map goes into multiple overflows, which means worlds get their maps filled, and the exceeding players are enough to fill many maps. Assuming two thirds of the players there are the exploiters, which is quite a high number, removing them would still leave us with at least one map full of players – the difference being that those players actually want to play the game as intended and finish the event, instead of exploiting the champions.

We don’t need exploiters. They are not helping the game. Quite the opposite – they are leeching the players who want to do the event and so happen to help them clear the waves until the pirates come.

lol always ’’exploiters’’. I think you need to learn your definitions, seems like you have no clue what are you talking about. As for the leeching part, some of them actually want to rush until pirates.

MOST do, they want to get to the pirates fast.

Also, why are other “bad apples” causing event fail not being brought up?

-Players who QQ the whole time about not enough time and don’t give their all.
-Players who see they are in an overflow and automatically give up
-Players who QQ and are abusive in map chat, taking focus off the event with arguments
-Players who are literally 30 seconds from a wp but cry “REZ PLZ” and won’t respawn
-Players who run off the moment the circle poofs and leave others stranded in the middle of a mob to die
-Players who focus on the fake-out Scarlet appearances

They all take time away from the event too.

I was really hoping Scarlet wasn’t a villain sue but…

You know, if not for all the “mastery” and the Asura colleges stuff (that is really pushing it), she could be believable – a sylvari born with a desire to create and understand but with a stubborn streak who delved too far and came out of it seriously messed up but with a desire to do things her way.

But of course then she wouldn’t have the power to run all these insane zergs and fifty million minions – she’d be a force in the background or maybe the ringleader of a single small group. I’m wondering if she was purposely scaled up to be a “world threat” and a “big Bad”.

Either way… it’s a villain sue.

When farmers create a ton of gold and inject it into the economy, it causes inflation and screws over the rest of the playerbase which doesn’t farm.

Whether this effect is substantial or not is unclear. However, there is absolutely no denying that farming (specifically, the type that creates gold, i.e Deadeye and CoF) has the potential to harm the economy.

Which is why I now have to farm. Deadeye should have been nerfed within days. Now, if I want to keep up, guess what I have to do?

My experience:

The first time, no one knew what they were doing. She went down in about a minute. I was no where near.

The second, commanders asked people to not engage her in combat until enough people had gathered so they could also get the achievement since they’d also fairly fought and co-ordinated for 35 minutes. No one listened, zerg rushed her and had her dead in 20 seconds. I was no where near.

The third time, I got there about 3 seconds before she died, got in one hit, and got the achievement. Others missed it due to loading screens and the zerg melting her so fast.

Fourth time, most of the group on the map got the achievement because the zerg took a full minute to down her and the closest WP was announced in Map Chat.

Fifth time, people again arrived too late due to late loading screens when TPing but I was in her area.

But all five times, despite only landing a hit on her during two of those, I got the end of event loot (choice of scraps or boxes and the other goodies). I only got the achieve and extra chest the first time I actually got a hit on her.

Are you guys NOT getting the event success loot chest at all? Because WOW, is that not fair.

This is why Diablo III developers decided not to add achievements for monster power.

“Going an extra mile” should give its own rewards without putting anything out of reach from the rest.

In the case of Diablo III, if you can manage to do stuff in monster power 10, then you get better drops and level up faster.

But if you can’t, you can just tone it down and take things easier and slower.

Nobody doing monster power 10 feels unrewarded because there’s no achievements for it since they get other rewards.
And nobody who can’t manage monster power 10 is feeling alienated and frustrated about something they may never get because of things like poor Internet connection, a crappy system or not having two hands; because nothng drops in MP10 that won’t drop in lower difficulty settings. It just may take longer.

Are you suggesting people on GW2 feel left out because they can’t do optional content that is geared towards more skilled players?

All I feel left out of is the gold farming train. I’d love 150g in a week from less than a minute of work per shot.

Some people take 10 tries others take 100. If you want it nerfed it means you haven’t tried enough.

Entitled much? This isn’t a black or white issue.

It also means they just don’t have the skill or maybe the patience or perhaps the gold or even the time or the fast connection to avoid FPS/latency issues or the luck or the fortune to not encounter bugs and glitches or a lot of things that have kitten to do with “TRY HARDER SCRUB”.

That said, don’t nerf the Gauntlet so the hardcores can have their content and leave the rest of us gamers of all types (not just “icky casuals”) alone. PVP, Fractals and WVW aren’t enough for them, I guess. That’s all content not made for me (but I’m forced into wvw for map completion – super fair, Anet).

Also, not all content was meant for all gamers. This is one of those. Accepting that and that you can’t do it doesn’t make you a bad player either – it means it just doesn’t fit your play style and that’s okay. I skip JP because my disabilities mean I can’t precision jump or dodge.

If I were farming and someone asked me to move to another empty one so they could do Liadri, I’d be ok with it. As someone who’s done it I can feel your pain

Unfortunately there are a few bad apples out there, but it’s not fair to label every farmer like that because of a few. Best we can do is try to be civil. If a farmer is acting like a total kitten and you absolutely need a specific arena, you can ignore him. At worst you added someone to ignore and have to wait 20 seconds for him to get his kill before you get back in. He will probably move anyway if there are others open.

The point I’m making is that non farmers are never inconvenienced by farmers cause the latter finish their runs so quickly. Why would a person trying to beat Liadri ask a farmer to leave? It doesn’t make sense. Liadri runs can take really long in comparison and it’s the poor farmer who needs to wait it out instead.

The pain is only flowing one way here.

The poor farmer.. did you seriously just say that? Holy crap, the stink of entitlement is overwhelming.

The Gauntlet was created as content for players to beat, not for your farming. Your farming comes last after everyone else’s right to try to beat that content and get the achievement. If someone wants to try to beat Liadri which is the point, I’m not going to feel sorry for the “pain” felt by a farmer who can’t go milk the Anet cash cow because, oh no, someone who actually is trying to beat and enjoy the challenge is taking “too long”.

Just wow. This has really brought out all the bad apples in the community.

Being there is not the same as achieving!

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Aerlen.5326

Aerlen.5326

I do think part of the problem is that they paired up a reward most likely to appeal to casual players (minipet) with obviously hardcore content. If the reward was something else, like a title or a unique skin then a lot less people would be going for it and getting frustrated when they can’t get it.

But I do also agree that there seems to be an odd sense of….I wouldn’t say entitlement exactly because most people seem to agree there should be some effort or skill required, but an expectation that everyone should be able to achieve everything relatively easily.

I came into GW2 having mainly played single-player games (and GW1) so to me it’s very weird. I’m used to there being certain achievements that are virtually impossible, which some people will need a lot of time and effort to get and others will never even attempt.

I’m also not used to this attitude of very loot driven game-play – the idea that if there’s a reward for something then everyone MUST have it and if there isn’t (or it’s not particularly valuable) then the content isn’t worth playing at all.

Agreed.

I’m also confused by the loot driven play too. I play for the experience of playing and the fun involved.

entitled players vs skilled players

I think the problem that “Entitled People” are addressing is because of the Mini Reward, if there’s no reward for killing her, alot of those “complain posts” would just never exists.
I only see 2 solutions:

a) Made the Mini avaible in a “easy content” too.
b) Defeat Liadri just earn you Achivement points(just like Light up the Darkness achievement).

Nintendo Hard situations and Anet made a wonderful choice in keeping The Gauntlet separate and optional.

All this Nintendo Hard situations the players that defeated her faced too, and they just don’t give it up(Learn and Adapt) because of those problems – I spend gold(WP, Repairs and Gear), experiment diferent builds, read diferent strategies, watched videos… I made all just for the Mini? No!

I did it because I wanted to prove to MYSELF that I am capable of doing!

Great for you. I can’t and I’m not interested in the stress it would cause me nor do I want to be handed the mini or an achievement or have it dumbed down. Don’t imply people who don’t want to go into Nintendo Hard mode are lazy scrubs who never want to prove anything to themselves and can’t adapt and learn or that hardcorers who complete that content don’t deserve a different – but non-game important – reward.

entitled players vs skilled players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerlen.5326

Aerlen.5326

You missed one group of gamers and they’re present anytime this topic gets brought up: The Entitled Skilled.

The believe everyone who isn’t them is a “casual nub” who can’t play video games to save their lives, wants everything to be easymode and must all be auto attacking, unskilled scrubs. They refuse to acknowledge that there are a lot of types of players, a lot of types of skills and not everyone enjoys the challenges they do. If you don’t play like them, you’re not worth a thing. You’re brainless and stupid, you’re why GW2 sucks. The event isn’t bad, you are. The bugs aren’t a problem for a “real” gamer, just a “casual”.

Ugh..

This whole event has made me sick to death of them and remarks like that. I’m disabled. My skill set isn’t going to be one of high reflexes. My big challenges are vistas and jumping, I feel very accomplished when I get a vista that required a lot of jumping and figuring out how to get to. My biggest rewarding achievement was placing first in Sanctum Sprint against a very relentless group. There is no “easymode” for me because even when I’m in a zerg – I’m looking out for fallen players or making sure no one gets left behind or figuring how to get the boss down with the least amount of player deaths or doing more than standing still and auto attacking. Only time I do that is when I’m lagging badly or I can’t see past the rush of other people to do much else. My skill is in secondary support which I was very good with in another MMO and when I finish a boss or vista or area – I’m always thinking “Oh gosh.. how will I get my thief or ranger or other class through this area with their skill set and strengths/weaknesses?”

So this game doesn’t hold my hand and I’m getting tired of it being implied that it does. This game isn’t Nintendo Hard but it requires time, thought, and effort. Dungeons have to be learned. Bosses have certain ways they need to be defeated. It takes time to develop your playstyle and determine which builds and classes fit it. I have no idea what this supposed “easymode” everyone talks about is because I’ve never experienced it. I joined during the first Karka event. I remember that 2+ hour long battle. Easymode? Where?

I’m sorry, but I’m also not skilled and equipped in the same way as “hardcores” are and I do hate The Gauntlet but I’ve come to realize these people need content like that and as long as I’m not missing out on story/lore, or anything important – why should I care? What does missing out on a mini or a title mean to me? I’m entitled to a game that works without bugs. I’m entitled to a game that takes a reasonable amount of skill to enjoy because that is what I was told I bought. I’m not entitled to be handed achievements I didn’t earn and as long as I’m NOT missing out on story/lore/new map areas/entire events or having it shoved in my face that because I can’t beat Liadri, that I’m a bad awful “casual” player – I don’t care.

What I care about is being forced into these Nintendo Hard situations and Anet made a wonderful choice in keeping The Gauntlet separate and optional. I don’t have to touch it and the hardcores and elitists can wholly enjoy it without me. That was genius. I want more content like this for them. The only thing that makes me want to flip a table is the gold farming – you want to talk easymode and entitled, there it is.

1. Yep. Waste of time. A lot of others have addressed this.
2. Didn’t attempt them because I knew I couldn’t solo them – didn’t affect my enjoyment of the rest of the content.
3. Knew that before I voted. Paying to tp is a way around needing things like mounts and not a terrible burden to begin with.
4. All content is optional, no one said you have to do any of it – I’ve been here almost a year and I haven’t completed the map, visited all the dungeons, earned all the achievements or seen all of Tyria. Sometimes I don’t even get to my dailies because real life comes first. Did you want something you could finish in 30 minutes? Because I sure don’t.

And bonus – some players apparently DO want hair pulling, stress inducing, unreal hard content and as long as it’s not mandatory to enjoy an event or story, well let them have it. The Gauntlet isn’t fun for me either so I’m not even trying. You don’t have to bother with it either.

Observations after beating Liadri

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Aerlen.5326

Aerlen.5326

I’m okay with punishing hardcore content, but mixing it in with casual content is stupid. Creaitng a gauntlet in which 90% of people will probably never complete is poor game design. They could easily have removed the orbs from Liadri to make the fight fair, then had a “hard mode” battle with the orbs for the few people who like dieing repeatedly.

It’s obviously not casual content. You don’t need to do it either. The main reason to do it is for a pretty cool mini. It’s a pretty decent reward for a hard fight. You don’t even need it for the big meta achievement for Queen’s Jubilee.

I do wish they had a normal mode and hard mode but it doesn’t really make much of a difference. It’s the same name for a different boss if that’s the case. Might as well just consider a different gauntlet challenge the “Story Mode” and her the hard mode. It doesn’t need to be done but if you want the mini you have to do it. That seems extremely fair to me.

I am going to agree that the decision to split the Gauntlet and the regular content was a great idea and having achievements for each that rewarded players with an item was more than fair.

The Gauntlet doesn’t fit my play-style or my disabilities, much like games like “I Want To Be the Guy” are waaay too punishing and tedious for me for even attempt and get an ounce of enjoyment from. But hey, I see a lot of gamers who enjoy that challenge and are even suggesting ways to make it less “punishing” and better designed. Awesome. I’d love to see events have tiers like this to challenge different types of gamers.

Critial Diff between Challenging & Punishing

I find it unfortunate that punishment for failure is so ill received.

We’ve been groomed by developers for over a decade by easy video games. These developers do everything in their power to remove frustration, inconveniences and punishment for failure. They go out of their way to shower their player base with rewards and gifts just for logging in and participating.

It was expected for casual players to react this way. I would have hoped that it would spark an appeal but; trying to reverse 10 years of behavioral conditioning is not going to be easy.

I’m getting really tired of “casual” being tossed as an insult and “hardcore” being toted as a great achievement and a “true” gamer. The OP obviously isn’t a “casual” and they made some great points. I don’t think anyone wants the Gauntlet nerfed to easymode “baby” levels, not even me. If that means I can’t complete it? That’s fine! But here is a real, genuine player (the OP) bringing up important points and I keep seeing “BAWWW CASUAL PLAYER TRY HARDER LOL NUB” all over the place.

Also, where are these “easy” games? Obviously they aren’t the ones I’ve been buying and playing for 30 years.

Punishment means you lose something valuable when you fail. This concept is not new. It adds risk. When you do something risky you feel an adrenaline rush because you know the consequences of failure.

Without risk achievements are empty. The encounter might of been challenging but; the reward for success doesn’t feel the same.

I will disagree to some extent with this line of thinking. Emotional rewards come from many different sources. The rewards from the social aspects of the game have far outweighed any boss or battle in the game for me.

For the “adrenaline rush” I’ve stated numerous times it is not why I play a game. In fact, inducing an adrenaline response frequently should not be the goal of a developer. Because the stress response is not a healthy state to induce often.

I completely agree with the OP. It appears over the past couple of months the feeling of being punished and not challenged, has been creeping further and further into content.

I’m also not thrilled with the handling of our economy and the Gauntlet farming. Just last night I needed a rez and a Deadeye farmer ran over. Instead of giving me a rez, they just started looping in and out, leaving me for dead. That’s the kind of behavior this content is producing…..

I’m really going to have to agree with you. Between the glitches my friends and the OP are complaining about, the farming of Deadeye and the “punishing content”, something needs to be fixed.

Watchknights are a bit concerning....

I can personally see both sides of this argument. To some extend I actually like the designs of the Watchknight. Very similar to Metropolis, and other classic scifi robot designs. I can see here the team got their inspiration.

However, the gigantic bosom, implied nipples (or aureola if you wish), and huge booty, I noticed right away. I’ve had long discussions about the depiction of women in video games before, and it would be pointless to make this another iteration of that same discussion (which involved lots of people calling others a feminist along with other nasty remarks).

On the whole, GW2 does a good job at depicting both men and women equally and respectfully. But there are some exceptions, and they kind of taint the MMO fantasy genre. Blatant sexualized depictions of female robots seems like a bit of a step backward to me.

If some female gamers feel bothered by that, they are entirely right to feel that way.

And on top of this, it’s lead to more “OMG boobs” discussions in map chat and some derogatory remarks, some of which have made me really uncomfortable. As if the election stuff was not enough…

So Being 1-Shot is meant to be a Challenge?

If you were quite a bit away from an enemy and they suddenly one shotted you, wouldn’t you go “WTF?! Was that a glitch??”

No, I’d ask, “Huh, now what was that so I know next time.”

Well I obviously I didn’t think that the first time. My bad.

However, I did learn the second time that’s just what he does and he’s as cheap as an old NES era boss… and honestly, if I want to deal with those game mechanics, I can plug in my NES and try to beat Ghosts N Goblins again.

..and rip my hair out because that game.. my god…

This is why I’m not doing the Gauntlet. It’s a great idea but I got in there on an 80th level guardian and got one shotted on the first fight when the guy was quite far from me and shouldn’t have been able to hit. I thought it had to be a glitch, tried again, almost beat him and then one shotted again.

Do people even read the “This guy does this” text beneath the mobs’ names?

Seriously, basically every boss has that text telling you what they do, summed up in a few words. Between that and the HUGE WINDUP ANIMATION the first boss does, there’s no excuse for thinking, “Oh, it’s a glitch, I quit.”

For the record I beat the first boss on a level 10 Guardian still wearing nothing but starter gear. I know that paying attention to mechanics is a tough change from, “AFK with auto attack on, get loot” but give it a try.

Unless you weren’t FACING him to see the wind up, which I was not. I was dodging away, the camera was at my back. I couldn’t see his wind up therefore, I had no idea he was even doing it. If you were quite a bit away from an enemy and they suddenly one shotted you, wouldn’t you go “WTF?! Was that a glitch??”

Also, thanks for the assumption I’m an idiot who uses auto attack to grind for loot and can’t use game mechanics. Sorry buddy but I actively play and the backhanded insults aren’t needed by you. I happen to play with a modified controller though, disabilities and all, and sometimes my buttons don’t respond right. Not Anet’s fault but one shotting and buggy camera angles hardly help.

I don’t think the Gauntlet should be gotten rid of either, it’s making a lot of players happy and you know what? I’m glad the hardcores got content that they can enjoy but I’m even more glad it’s not mandatory to enjoy the event.

Have you already forgotten they were account bound to begin with?
Anet had to change this because of abuse (players making new alts to get more tickets and deleting them again). Always someone who has to ruin it for the rest of us, i too would have liked to been able to send tickets to my lvl 80s.

 Now the change makes some level of sense. ArenaNet’s lack of foresight is completely astounding.

Rather than changing tickets from account bound to soulbound, this loophole could (and should) have been resolved by making the mail granting 5 free tickets a one-time account-wide mail rather than giving each and every character.

I have to agree here.

I did recently create some new characters to replace ones that no longer fit my play style and it took me two tries to get one of them to look the way I wanted. Each time, I got the letter and the five tickets stuck in my inventory.

They could have just as easily given every account five or ten tickets

You guys got stuck with stacks of these after the Deadeye nerf? They are chuckling at Anet right now.

I don’t see why. I don’t use them or buy them, I get them in drops and I’ve never even seen Deadeye nor heard of him until the forums exploded over the nerf.

Maybe read the post next time?

To me, they’re modelled after Amazonians. Would you prefer if she surrounded herself with hulky half dressed man bots?

Yes.

Yes.

And yes.

With nipples and sculpted butts and bulges.

It’s art.

And more bikini armor for men please. I want my women wholly covered and my men running around in impractical outfits that leave vital areas wide open. (Though to be fair, ANET has been pretty good with avoiding the Female Bikini Armor crap… though I’m still irritated that the Vigil female armor for some reason has bare parts on the chest and thighs.. Whhhyyy ANET… it was PERFECT except for that, URGH)

Account Bound would be fine too or make them worth 1 copper. I keep hearing people have to grind just to get them from the vendor and yet here are a bunch of us sitting on stacks.

It’s no skin off my nose to not take part in the event, I personally like the zerg rushes in the Pavilion better, but this is poor game design. I’d expect this cheap behavior in an old NES game, not a modern MMO. No one likes one hit kills and from what I’ve heard, the whole Gauntlet is this way. I suppose it’s perfect for hardcore players and thank goodness it’s optional!

I don’t intend to use any of these and they take up a drop that I’d prefer to be a rare or heck, any other item really. There are a lot of players who’d love the 100 or so I’ve gotten but they’re both soulbound and not tradable/sellable.

It’d be nice to, at the least, be able to give them to others who’ll actually make use of them.

Remove WVW being required for map completion

in Suggestions

Posted by: Aerlen.5326

Aerlen.5326

This is simply stupid, while pve is about story and exploration – pvp and wvw certainly aren’t. Having to deal with being forced to set foot in wvw if I want world completion is completely stupid – it’s like I’m being forced to deal with pvp, something which frustrates me and sucks all the fun out of the game. There’s no way to flag yourself as “just there for the map” so that you don’t have to deal with mobs of pkers and worse yet, you’re preventing wvwers from your own server who actually want to play from being able to get in if the caps been reached by just being there.

I don’t WANT to wvw and I see NO reason why it’s a requirement. Wvw should be a separate part of the game for those who enjoy it, not forced on everyone if they want 100% of the map. Especially since it’s not even ON the regular map.

Please remove it.. or at least make it some special achievement on its own.

I hate the normal hair colors too. Hell, I’d pay extra to have a pink haired guy – maybe there should be an “exotic” make over kit that gives access to “wild” hair colors.
