Also, if you’d like another option of what to say to Sya – what did you expect your character to say? “You’re sick and you’ll always be a man. You’re just delusional!” I promise Sya’s response wouldn’t have been ‘tumblr’ generated – probably something more like “I’m sorry you feel that way but I’m finally being honest with myself and living the way I want to. Dealing with Scarlet taught me life is too precious to waste.”

What on earth is “tumblr” mindset? In my visits to that site, I’ve found it be be insanely toxic and full of people who get offended if you cough wrong and make broad assumptions about everything. I think I broke my desk from smacking my head into it at the “all white hetero cis-scum should die and I identify as Freddy Fazbear and I’m animatronsexual so respect my orientation” stuff. It takes away and makes a mockery of LGBTQA issues as well as other things. Is that what is meant? Because that isn’t what’s going on with Sya. If Sya came out as fictivekin, you might have a case.

I don’t see how the idea that yeah, people of different orientations and stuff should be in games in roles that don’t turn them into showboating special snowflakes because that mirrors real life diversity has anything to do with Tumblr.

Not being sexually attracted to anyone is also hardwired into the brain at birth too. I’m ‘fortunate’ that I’m mildly romantically interested in men and am ‘heterosexual passing’ but I went through my teenage years without an ounce of the horniness or interest in dating teens are known for. They tested hormones. They were normal. No trauma then to blame. It was just who I was and who I still am. There is no fix.

So it kittens me off when I heard anyone talking about ‘fixing’ LGBTQA folk. No, there is no fix. Don’t you think if it was that easy, it’d just be done? Who wants to be hated and mistreated constantly because of who they are or aren’t attracted to or their gender identity?

Also – WE are parading this issue more than Sya. Sya connected the dots so the character would know who she was before and how she knows them. And that’s it. Never mentioned again. Not a platform.

Every time I think maybe the real world isn’t so bad, I come back to topics like this and it’s why I go bury my head in the game again. What a nice world where I don’t have to field BS all the time about my orientation being ‘a challenge’ and told maybe someone should sexually violate me to change it (too late, someone tried that) or where a verb to describe a state the mental illness I’ve struggled with for 20 years causes isn’t constantly misused as some sort of sick joke against “SJWs” or where my disabilities don’t make me ‘worthless’ as both a human being and a woman. And hey, there are characters who represent some of that. They’re normal. Not special snowflakes. Not worthy of gobs of attention because of it. Normal.

Look, this NPC is a minor drip in a bucket that made transfolk happy when they noticed. That’s it. That’s all she is. Some NPC who is trans and gets treated as perfectly normal instead of a freak of nature. I’m not trans, this doesn’t promote any personal agenda, it was just a nice thing. Hey, in Tyria, no one cares if you’re trans, sweet right? Being yourself can be hard but it’s okay, you’re accepted, you’re wanted, you’re valuable. That is a darn good message to give, even through a NPC who doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme.

No, no, once you dive in – it’s not so bad. It’s visually overwhelming though, maybe a scale back on that, but the system is good!

Condi is unreal at this point. No idea how to fix it but wow am I enjoying the massive death!

It just feels like a gut punch to be honest and a handicap to be 60 points behind and not able to enjoy your character until they are nearly 80th level. I’ve played my sadly Earth specced ele and she doesn’t feel right compared to my 80th level who has all her traits fixed in her favor. Ele is the only one I’m really kittened about tbh, the other ‘set’ traits can be dealt with, but that ele.. her whole set up and attunement screamed “AIR”, I get Earth, and get it blamed on me and a “lol deal with it” from the Devs.

Yeah. no. If you are going to kitten players, you could give them a heads up instead of the “we tried to match your build and abilities” (I have yet to find a level 20-30 ele who was not auto specced to Earth. Every. Last. One. You cannot seriously tell me they all had Earth traits) and an explanation of why those traits were picked. They snuck this in while everyone was flailing and foaming about HoT.

This also seems to be only true for those under level 55. My level 56 engi doesn’t have Inventions (surprise), he has the two trait lines he had points in pre-patch. My level 30 engi though has Inventions despite never having a trait point there.

It just feels icky and adds grinding and a wait period that shouldn’t be there. I’d really love to hear the reasoning behind these ‘default’ trait lines.

I don’t think you could have saved the character. The more I hear, the more I realize it had nothing to do with what you had equipped or traited or your utilities unless perhaps you were high enough level to have two trait lines unlocked. Anet decided X class gets X trait line(s) and tried to pass the blame down to players by saying “Oh we tried to match your existing builds”. They did not. They had a set line they planned to stick on each of the classes, your actual traits and abilities didn’t matter.

Okay. I’m going to say this.

When I go out into the real world, I do not just see heterosexual non trans people in my life. Everyone who waits on me at the supermarket isn’t heterosexual. Everyone I stop to chat with walking to the game store isn’t heterosexual. There’s the possibility some of them might be trans as well. I’ll never know because I’ll never ask. I may be talking to a woman and find out she has a girlfriend or a guy I know is now dating his male best friend. I don’t go out into the real world and expect everyone to be heterosexual and not trans. I don’t assume everyone is heterosexual and not trans. I don’t balk when someone is themselves and reveals casually they aren’t heterosexual or are trans.

So why would I expect any different in a game world? Why would anyone? If you really think the real world is 99.9% heterosexual and not trans, then you need to get out a bit more. If you expect game worlds to adhere to a strictly heterosexual white washed standard, you are playing the wrong game.

You can say “I don’t need to know about anyone’s genitals or who they sleep with!!!” but you don’t react this way when you find out a character or a couple are heterosexual. You don’t balk at the talk about an NPC’s wife having a baby even though that directly says they had sex. You don’t whine about an agenda when Logan talks about his love and devotion for the Queen. There are no threads wishing Lord Faren would stop shoving his heterosexuality in your face. You don’t complain about man/woman romances. Ever. Yet it’s the exact same thing as Sya saying she was a man, as Kasmeer swooning over Majory, and Caithe’s pining for Faolain.

You only care when it’s not heterosexual because somehow, you see heterosexuality and not being trans as “the norm” and invisible. If someone tells you they’re gay and you are envisioning who they sleep with, you have the issue. If someone tells you they’re trans and you’re trying to imagine what’s between their legs, you have the issue. That is on you.

Are you dropping 60-50 levels on these folks? Then quit saying “By level 80…”.

We know. By level 80, it won’t matter. All 80’s are fine. All new characters are fine. Everyone in the middle is kittened.

So basically.. all characters between 20-30 got kittened from what I’m reading by auto traits that they didn’t train in, didn’t have points in, or didn’t appear to be leaning towards. I have not spoken to a single ele between 20-30 who didn’t have Earth auto specced (if you have two trait lines or three, I’m not talking about you – I’m talking about those who only have one).

So eles all got Earth, it sounds like thieves were all given Shadow Arts, necros got Death Magic, engis seem to have Inventions, rangers have Wilderness Survival, and warriors have Defence. Unsure on others. Again, if you have more than one trait line, I’m not talking about you, but if you logged in on a lowbie (20-30) and had a different SINGLE trait line autoed than those listed – please comment. I’m curious if people were just stuck with one or if this “you traited towards that” really applies.

It also doesn’t seem to matter if you previously did hero challenges or not – a toon with 15 hero challenges done and a toon with none done are still specced 60 points. There might be a difference in Utility skills but I’m not seeing one yet.

To be fair, I only failed the dark room part and had to be ported to the last Karka. Vertigo + depth perception issues + fear of heights + issues with reflexes = Nope.gif when lights are flickering.

Yay. Running all over nine maps to fix a mistake I didn’t make and get 60 hero points before I can enjoy playing my ele the way anyone else at level 30 with two maps completed could. How totally fun and great.

See, I like this new system. I do! It’s great. It gives back what the NPE stripped away and more. Traits are useful at an earlier level again. You don’t have to pay gold or complete certain tasks. Your character can have the feeling of growth again.

Except it’s like my ele is still using the NPE because she can’t take advantage of the 60 hero points she’s earned in a way that benefits her playstyle. She might as well not have them at all. So while I should be enjoying 60 points in air because that’s where her trait points were, I’m not, and it will take me a long time to fix that. When her second trait line opens up, instead of having what I’d like – it’ll be Air and Earth unless she’ll have 60 spare points from leveling on hand or unless I grind out 60 more hero challenges. Might as well go with the crap philosophy of “characters aren’t good until they’re 80 and traits don’t matter” then and go back to the NPE.

Not always. I’m actually trying to figure why so many eles 27-30 have Earth and why mine did without having Earth traits.

Ask for a guide through Sharkmaw or if others are doing it. People were super nice on my server and helped.

Honestly? I would answer them seriously without bias because bias makes a crappy game full of exploits.

I’m afraid to try my necro now. Her traits were fine but I’m not hearing anything great about how they play now.

I’m trying to chill, I apologize for being harsh and angry. It was frustrating to log into, frustrating when I realized it was a long-term handicap that was only going to be solved completely when I had three more trait lines unlocked (to ditch Earth in any line), and frustrating when I added up how much work that would take.

I’m not a fan of grindy games that feel like chores or games where you feel you can’t do a thing until you’re the max level and that’s what the game is for my lowbie eles now. I guess I save up tomes or grind or delete – none of which are fun options for me.

I’m happy she’s there but she’s not a big platform gushing deal to me nor should she be. She’s there and treated as a normal NPC and that’s all that needs to be said on the matter aside from inclusion is nice for transfolk.

And don’t get me started on Kasjory. The gushing romance woo woo snugglebum sweetness made my teeth fall out.

I am frustrated as well. The excuse seems to be that it doesn’t matter to level 80’s or to brand new players and that it’s a lot of work to fix. That is fine but I have a level 30 that it does matter to and that I now have to do a lot of work to fix. 60 hero points = eight or nine zones.

I guess I have to grind 60 hero points to even enjoy my two underleveled eles. 60. That’s like nine maps.

It’s grind or delete at this point and delete and waste 14 more transmutation charges plus a make over kit plus silver to re-equip is looking a whole lot easier than mindless grinding.

My 80 is fine. My 27 and 30 are not.

I logged out one attuned to lightning and one to water, nice try though. I don’t use earth except on my staff ele who is level 80.

Weapons next? D/D and S/F which.. I dunno, don’t scream “earth weapons” to me. Staff ele at 80 had Earth unlocked too but being 80, she could just get everything.

I’m just frustrated. None of my other toons got an undesirable trait line so I’m not understanding this.

Lucky you because everyone I spoke to under or at 30 has Earth =/ I wish I’d spawned with even Arcane or Fire.

My level 80 spawned with Air, Fire, and Earth but could unlock whatever she wanted. These two eles are now handicapped.. yay.. super yay.. yay.. thanks Anet.. yay.

I got lucky. It’s just my eles. Every other under 80 toon got traits that suit them or can be worked with.

An air focuses ele got Earth. A water focuses ele got Earth.

The justification is “you can unlock everything at 80”. Great anet – insta 80 me then.

SCREAM Why would you trait all eles to EARTH. ALL OF THEM. WHY?? I had no points in Earth, WHY? My ten other under level 80’s were all given stats that were appropriate but every ele, every last one, was given Earth. Every ele I ask got Earth too. WHY?

I’m not going to grind to 80 just so ‘everything is unlocked’ to fix your mistake, that’s bullkitten and you know it. I’m not going to do 60 hero challenges to fix your mistake, that is also bullkitten. Why, just why? I’m playing with a handicap now if I want to enjoy those toons instead of the boost every other toon on my account got.

I’m level 30. I have 50 levels until then. I do not power level or insta-80 with tomes because I prefer to enjoy the game via map completion. I’m real sure I had no points in Earth, my other ele didn’t either. He’s level 27 and fully specced to Earth. Other eles I asked were also autoed to Earth.

Being able to unlock everything at 80 doesn’t matter. I’m not 80. I have to play her until then with a handicap I didn’t even give her. Not my accident or mistake =/

facepalm I don’t feel like grinding because anet decided all eles need 100% earth. That’s 60 points in something I don’t want and can’t switch out of until I gain 60 MORE points.

All they need to find this is a “refund traits” button. We had it before, it’s not hard >:(

You can’t refund the traits though. I’ve tried. Over and over.

My level 30 ele logged in today and I discovered she is 100% specced to Earth.

I don’t use the Earth traits.

I can’t refund or switch, that’s 60 points wasted in something i don’t want. Trying to switch to Air which I do want tells me I have no points to spend.

My other ele was ALSO 100% specced to Earth. I’ve talked to other ele players under 30. They were also specced to Earth.

Why was this chosen as the default? Do I have to remake this character to fix her so I can enjoy leveling? I don’t have tomes to ‘insta-80’ and I don’t want to on top of that. I do map completion to level and I prefer to enjoy the game instead of force grinding.

This isn’t my mistake. I would have never chosen Earth for her and I don’t even want to play her now because why should I be forced to grind 50 levels to get the Air and Fire traits when I should HAVE one of those by now but instead, some one thought “hey, earth is great for a lightning ele”.

Really, allowing a one time refund of traits if we don’t like the ones you picked would be reasonable. I’m pretty sure I had zero points in Earth pre-patch so no idea why both my eles are now completely kittened and can’t be played the way I want.

No, you cannot. You are fully speced in Defence and stuck with it same as my level 30 Ele is now fully speced in Earth and I can’t do kitten about it.

The point is – this should all be normal, not a ‘hot button topic’, not ‘political’. Do you see how normal her transition is treated in game by your character? That is how it’s supposed to be treated and thought of in society. The problem is that the people in power have made LGBTQA+ a political issue for their own reasons when it’s as much of a ‘political’ thing as being heterosexual is.

How mean! I got into this and was really enjoying it… until I found out the last ones I need are in a JP I can’t do! Not fun, why would you do that?

Please anet, remove all heterosexuals from the game because it’s just like pushing obamacare and I don’t want it in my game. Heterosexuality is a political issue and I can say that because I have hetero friends. No offense.

This is garbage. My other ele was ALSO auto specced into earth 100% and while that’s okay for him (would have preferred water but I planned on taking earth for him too), it is absolutely NOT for my air build ele. In fact, all 12 of my lowbies were auto specced! For ten of them, it was fine because it reflected traits they were building on.. but for both eles to be shoved into earth like that – no option to fix…

And to those saying “well just level to 80”, greeeeat. I level slow. I like to enjoy the process and to experiment with builds as I go so that each toon plays just a little differently. For both eles, I am now stuck with a trait line I wouldn’t pick at that level and will be forced to grind to fix a mistake I didn’t make.

They trained my ele in Earth.. all the traits in Earth.. I don’t WANT these. She’s 30th level, I need those traits in AIR.

Well congrats, you touched on the two most hostile places in the whole game – PVP and HoT discussion. I’d 100% suggest you not judge the entire community based on that – HoT is a temporary deal and PVP is always going to be toxic as Scarlet’s silly alliance.

I can see it now. They add in an 800 gem loyalty bonus for players who already own the core game. Some people don’t spend it to buy a character slot and continue complaining they deserve one anyhow.

I had nothing out there using my RL name so it was really not cool when my RL info was suddenly on an anon hate group for roleplayers =/ Lucky that group got deleted but yeesh…

And yeah. I wish I’d gotten out earlier myself. I loved roleplaying but somewhere along the line, this behavior became okay. No thanks, I’ll play Dungeons and Dragons instead.

And there it is. That’s why I quit journal rp and all rp. When a bunch of 20-30 year olds are posting your RL name, phone #, address, and info and putting your RL family at risk by encouraging open harassment because you won’t play along with their gay pairing storyline, it’s time to say ‘kitten it’ and give up.

RP was a lot friendlier and more fun before this crap. Oh and that GW2 site? Tame. The anon sites for Dreamwidth encourage doxxing and posting personal stuff.

You must be new to RPing, the community on the internet has always been this way. Surprised they don’t have some ‘anon’ site for GW2 roleplayers where they bash and harass anyone they don’t like ‘for the lols’ because every other roleplay group online sure does with journal rpers being the WORST in that regard. It just seems to be the nature of the beast these days and I can honestly say that I’ve met some of the most immature, vindictive, and just plain nasty people online in RPer cliques. Sad because I love writing and creating and roleplaying heavily relies on both.

In GW2 specifically – I have met very few open rpers who don’t care if you can’t spout out three paragraphs or fill out a lengthy application that rivals a real world one for a job or pass a ‘roleplay inspection’. Usually when I meet them, they’re only interested in ERP which.. no… no sorry. I’m also paranoid enough about not playing my chars well enough in game mechanics, I don’t think I could take the pressure of worrying about not rping well enough on top of that.

JPs are evil for someone with reflex problems and issues with depth perception. Oh and no, I don’t stand in the orange circles, I very rarely die at Tequatl actually and if I do die, it’s called a waypoint :p Now if I had to make a pinpoint jump onto a small stick.. yeah, I would be dead all the time because my eyes and hands don’t work as well as I wish they would.

That said – JPs are never going to be removed. Friendly mesmers though are always about to help people get those vistas that require a JP.

I actually am starting to like Trahearne since he showed up in Season Two and wasn’t a complete spotlight hog. His voice even sounds better.

I don’t care how anyone plays as long as they play fine and listen – even bear/bows, zerks, and staff eles.

I am afraid to go in a dungeon because I’m petrified of being kicked or finding the build that works for me is one of the ‘bad’ ones that will get me kicked.

People who judge others for having a toon that is opposite of their RL gender are branded as close minded unimaginative creeps in my mind – even though I try to tell myself not everyone grew up as a roleplayer or a writer and understands the idea of playing what you aren’t.

Sometimes, I am afraid to say I’m a woman because of all the sexist crap that can happen in map chat if I do.

I hate rangers who don’t understand they need to control their pets in dungeons – same for anything with a minion or summon.

I play mainly by myself because I am terrified of being judged and made fun of. I have no idea how to use skills to help other players because of this.

I have fought Tequatl over a hundred times and I still get shivers when he jumps out of the water and the fight starts.

I am convinced I don’t play well because of elitists. Others have told me I listen well and execute things fine enough but I don’t believe them.

Due to disability, I don’t understand numbers and percentages well and that reflects on me not understanding most game mechanics that require math. I have no idea what 161% magic find actually means in game lingo other than better chance to find shinies.

Every time the reactor fractal comes up, I wish I would have voted for Gnashblade.

I have 21 character slots… and I intend to do world completion for every last one of them.

I’m afraid this community will become as toxic as WoW.

During the recent beta, I really had to bite my lip because of one complainer in chat who seemed determined to ruin it for everyone.

I hated Charr and Asura when I started playing. I love them both now.
