Update

I filed a refund ticket as I hate the floppy wings now and was told I couldn’t get a refund and that I should be more careful what I buy from the gemstore. I liked what I bought not what they were patched to. I’m more than a bit miffed at the response but I’ll assume the GM thought I’d purchased the white ones.

This isn’t over

The real crux of this entire argument is that some people thing lgbt are born that way and other people don’t buy that argument. I think it is a lifestyle choice. Those lifestyles offend me because of my religious beliefs. I am sure that I will be insulted in myriad ways once again.. I am a paying customer of anet and would like them to know that I wasn’t thankful for this npc.

Whatever superstitions you enjoy you can believe in freely, that is a lifestyle choice by you. Religion is a choice.

this game and its forum is not intended to be a banner for anyones ideology/sexuality/theology/or what have you. Its about a game, and should remain such. Place this in the off topic area if you want, but it has no business in the gameplay discussion threads.

That’s the point of Sya though. Putting this this topic out of sight is the opposite of inclusion.

Moderator, I am requesting this thread be deleted… its a cesspool of hate from both sides, and has nothing to do with the game. Or at least move it to the off topic designated forum area.

I request that this be kept alive as long the game is. This NPC has raised awareness and that leads to understanding. No name calling, no insults, just talk.

sexual orientation or gender identity is not what defines us, but it plays a bit role on what we are. I am a gay male, and that is a pretty big part of who I am as a person, I’m much more than that of course, I like art, I like comics, videogames and sport and I always try to be funny. those are also parts of who I am as a person, but all of them play a big role on my identity.

I read that and thought “oooh what kinds of comics?”.

Growing up with gay friends made me see them as no different than me and that’s why I welcome and encourage Anet and other companies to fully include LGBT characters into their games. The more you’re around someone who is “different” the less “different” they seem, until one day all you see is your friend.

This isn’t as I’ve read on some of these posts about “shoving it down your throat” (seriously, they’re anti gay and say that? … Awkward), it’s about not hiding the fact that not everyone is the same and that’s a great thing.

Putting characters like Kas and Jory, Taimi, and Sya into the game doesn’t push the (lesbian, disabled, or transgender) agenda of a group it puts charaters players can relate to into a game. I don’t know what this agenda so many are worried about is other than equality and who can possibly be against that?

TL/DR I want Sya in the next LS.

Zerker doing damage is ok, condi isnt?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Because its meant to balance, not to turn the table.

Also, Condition builds are lazy builds imho. Damage over time sou you can apply condition and see the enemy dying without risking yourself? Not my style.

Conditions are not no risk. Just getting close enough to apply them puts you at risk, just like any other attack.

Most of then are inflicted trough ranged ways. Even while it haves risks, don’t even compare to direct damage output risk.

On another point of view or defense on my tought : Condition damage is directly linked to toughness, making the condi builds heavily defensible.

Zerker/burst damage are linked to critical and precision , what in one way or another, sacrifice both Vitality and toughness, so to give high damage burst, you are always likely to be squishy and high risk gameplay.

You have zero knowledge of conditions do you? My thief my engi and ranger are point blank range when I’m spec’d condi.

As dubious as it may be, A-net cited the previous wings to be “bugged”… a.k.a the wings have always meant to have this animation.

I know it sucks if you preferred them before, Aiden. Unfortunately for you the majority seem to prefer the more realistic version.

As I’ve stated I hope people enjoy the new version.

Well I did buy them so…. Yes. I prefer the holographic dragon wings animation but I bought the previous physics.

Which is a fair point and constructive feedback is good for them to improve them. Just bear in mind the backlash on the old physics was what got them changed to how it is.

I completely understand why they made the change of they were unpopular, just as they should understand why I’m not keeping mine. I don’t fault them changing them but they’re so floppy.

I’m a veteran player, and i don’t think i SHOULD be getting anything beyond a new player.

Where did this pathetic sense of self-entitlement start?

And I’m back. The entitlement word again. I’ll speak plainly as if I don’t it would most likely be misunderstood.

Anet is selling a product
I am a customer
My word on what is and is not value for my money is law.

You’re attempting to use entitlement as a slanderous phrase to describe customers unwilling to pay for what they consider to be a software bundle providing them 20% of the value a new customer receives for the same money. Spin it however you like, use any term you prefer to paint customers in an unflattering light, or get really angry that we don’t agree with you, it doesn’t matter.

In the end all that matters are sales and corporate reporting will provide definitive proof as to whether this package was successful or not. A customer who doesn’t want it doesn’t need it, wait to buy HoT or just play regular GW2 forever, or buy the upgrade. Whatever any one player decides is up to them.

Yes, it is free forever. You can continue to play the game you bought, Guild Wars 2 forever. Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns is a separate registered trademark. A separate game that expands the game you are now playing.

But it doesn’t stop you from playing the game you purchased for free.

This should always be written (without paying more).

Nothing is free that was purchased, even if GW2 is now worthless.

I’m glad many are happy about the character slot I’m sure 20 million people are pre purchasing the game as we speak.

Saltiness…. The vernacular of the sea.

It’s about value not the amount. I’ve more than had enough of people telling me what great value I’ve received for my money. I’ve enjoyed the game I don’t claim otherwise, but when told I’ve received something for free when I paid full freight is when I correct those people.

Great post OP, also you didn’t mention…..

All the unobtainable skins, recipes and items that can no longer be acquired by new accounts is part of the privilege launch time veterans have, how awesome is it to equip an item you know is coveted by many but no matter what they do they will never ever be able to own it.

That right there is what you got plus all the free content updates and feature packs no one seems to remember when talking about value for your money…….

How convenient it is to have selective memory eh……

You conveniently left out that we paid for the game.

If you’re happy with your prepurchase, you can probably stop reading now.

If you’re not, and you think that because newcomers are getting the core game and the expansion for the same price as you’re getting the expansion, that you need to be compensated in some way, continue reading.

When did you start complaining about the core game being discounted? When it was only $30? $20? Did you finally start complaining when it was $10? Tell me, what is the difference in someone getting the core game for $30 less than you, and them getting it for $50 less than you? They are getting a better value, regardless, if you’re talking straight money. So then why is it so different when they get the game for free rather than paying $10? It’s just another $10 off, like the other discounts. I think what many people fail to realize is that the expansion was going to be $50 regardless of what the core game sold at. It’s just a discount like any other.

How selfish of you to think that you need to be compensated by a company that has given you thousands of hours of enjoyment, just because they decide to make it easier for others to do the same. You know what you got from the deal of having to pay more for the game? You were able to enjoy the game all this time! THAT’S your compensation.

You got hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of entertainment, and yet you complain about someone else getting the game at a discount.

I would love to see you here on the forums the first time they put HoT on a discount, cause it’s all the same.

I started complaining the second that they showed that whichever bundle I chose included software I already own. I don’t need another copy of GW2. As for selfish, well it is my money so that’s my business. Was I mad the game was slashed to $10 yes, but did I complain? No. I want new players I’m simply not buying what Anet is selling. I already own GW2 so I’m here regardless of whether I buy HoT.

@ Xylum – Very well said, thats exactly how I feel as well, the expansion being shown to me just isn’t $50 worth of content, I paid $150 for the CE of the original game and I got my money out of it for sure but this… meh

Speaking to your situation as it’s the same as mine, the longer I (and you) play the game the less I’ll focus on the $150 price tag of the CE. With these bundles I would be paying again for what I’ve already paid max dollar for.

Thank you ArenaNet! Ignore the Negative Nancys and Debbie Downers! All in all, GW2 and HoT is the best bang for your buck MMO any way you slice it! Not only that, but it is THE BEST MMO on the market. You all put a lot of love in your game and it is obvious! Thank you!

As they’re expected to sell 2 million copies of what in my opinion is an overpriced upgrade to existing software, ignoring current customers is only feasible if they’re selling targets are being met. Many “Veterans” of the game have begun looking at HoT as consumers which isn’t a good sign for sales as this software update is thin in substance.

Every part of the planet uses a different time zone. What are you talking about? And time zones have nothing to do with imperial measurements.

I think what he’s saying is post it it normal way how 99% of the people in the world determine timezones. (by GMT or whatever).

Only Americans know what PST, MST, EST CST etc mean or how to convert it.

Because GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) created London as the center of the world. GMT +/- London time. It may seem insignificant but we don’t consider England the center of anything.

I’m still not impressed by the price and value of the product. I still feel like in the long-term, veterans will be the ones consistently getting shafted. Lets say there are 4 expansions in GW2’s lifetime. If you are someone that played from the get-go, you’ll have spent $50 on the base game, now $50 on this expansion, $150 on the future expansions. That’s $250. Someone brand new coming into the game at the fourth expansion only pays $50 for all of the games/expansions? It’s a fantastic deal for new players, but veteran players will continuously get shafted. I feel strongly that the base game + expansion should differ from the expansion alone.

Pretty much this.

HoT Prepurchase Packaging

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Aidenwolf.5964

You are NOT buying the core game again, you are buying HoT for 50$ regardless. And Anet is kind to give you core game if you are a new player. Geez.

Here’s the disconnect. Not everyone is buying HoT “regadless” as we already own GW2. This (as described in the blog post) is not a standard expansion, it is a continuation of GW2 that many aren’t seeing as value for their money. The character slot addition will placate some certainly but not all. Some like myself will wait to see more of the expansion before buying because to this point it’s still not (to my eyes) worth $50.

Even post launch non “upgrades” can continue to play GW2 until the upgrade (not expansion) is reduced in price / is shown to be amazing.

I don’t expect it to as the character slot was one (albeit a major) issue. Issues about price point for the content as described and the continuing sense that the core game is being purchased twice as they still have no upgrade option that doesn’t feel like a bundle containing software we already own still linger.

This change will drive more sales but will it be enough? Time will tell

Hopefully lessons have been learned all around from this debacle.

Contradiction in Community Address

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidenwolf.5964

“In our January 23 FAQ, we wanted to clarify that Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns would not be a stand-alone campaign like those offered in Guild Wars ® in the past (Factions® and Nightfall®), but instead would be a true expansion to Guild Wars 2 similar to what Guild Wars: Eye of the North® was to our original game.”

Followed By:

“We believe that to keep the game dynamic and vibrant with a constantly growing community, it should be as easy as possible for new players to get into Guild Wars 2. For Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we didn’t want the core game’s price to be a factor in a new player’s decision to begin playing Guild Wars 2. In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.”

So let’s get this straight. You didn’t want HoT to be similar to stand alone campaign to GW1 (which was the only purchase needed), but similar to Eye of the north (Which required player’s to purchase the expansion plus one of the stand alone campaign’s). Yet, you go on to say that your business model for this expansion and all future expansions is you pay once? Very shady Arenanet. Very shady.

Continue reading and you’ll arrive at them offering an unprecedented refund policy to correct the situation.

Here’s what’s going to happen. Everyone who is raging about this price and lack of content will come to the forums and post about it. They’ll make grandiose statements about how they’ll NEVER buy the xpac or speak to other peoples intentions on buying it. the forum threads will be condensed into one massive thread and the post counts with get upt to 10k-12k at which time Anet with claim something happened in the system and that thread was lost. People will QQ for a little more but no where near extent like before because everything has been said and people are tired and don’t want to redo everything. Everyone moves on and buys the game, spends a couple gems for an extra slot and enjoys the xpac.

Where do I come up with this you may ask and what “proof” do I have? I ask you to turn your attention to the introduction of Ascended gear.

Cheers and enjoy HoT!

Doubt anyone said they’re boycotting HoT (I’m certainly not) I’m simply not buying it until I consider it worth my money without being shortchanged.

Then back away from the discussion, because I guarantee you right now that HoT will definitely not be of equivalent size to the launch game. If it is, I will buy you a copy myself. Given your ultimatum, you will not be buying HoT, so there’s no more reason for you to be participating in the discussion.

This is what I am referring to. There is no need for the other poster to refrain from posting. You can disagree.

The thing is though, that it is reaching a point were you are just repeating the same rehashed points over and over. You’re not bringing anything new to the table. You merely flipflop being stuck in your own semantics and notions about value is. Come on.
It’s so telling that you and a few others are literally hammering this down everyones throats. I’ve seen you in at least 30 threads going on about this. It’s annoying.

People get it. They get it. Now move on, and let the chips fall where they may. You’re putting a serious damper on constructive discussions with your non-constructive vilification and conspiracy theories. It’s childish.

I’m acting childish? I’m spreading conspiracy theories? Quite the opposite actually, but since we’ve never conversed I won’t mind that it won’t happen again.

I’m unhappy with the Heart of Thorns packages so I go to the forums and discus why I’m unhappy with these packages (pricing, features). As a veteran player I’ve been broadly painted as entitled, a whiner, and a crybaby by players like you.

I have been directly called a conspiracy theorist and childish (by you), and one of the most famous white knights dared to liken me to a bigot. All because as a customer, I am not pleased with the product Anet is selling as currently packaged.

I’ve kept my calm far better than I would’ve dreamed.

I didn’t liken you to a bigot, I changed the original post at your request and explained it. I once has some respect for you, but you’re angry and you’re taking it out on everyone else. It’s not cool.

You’re not just saying something, but there’s a distinct bite to what you’re saying. Talking about people who work for Anet calling the Freshmen etc. I get that you’re emotional, but I think you’re picking on other people with the strength for your language and may not even realize it. I felt offended by your posts.

I didn’t call you out by name because I do still have some respect for you but saying I’ve offended you is a step too far my friend. I do appreciate that you alterred the post in question I’ll leave it there.

I honestly think we crossed wires somewhere, because we’ve never had this problem before. Either I misinterpreted something or you did but I never intended any offense. There are people I wouldn’t mind offending, mind you, but you’re not one of them.

I apologize if I’ve crossed some lines.

Accepted. I feel as though some posters confuse a similarly named poster with me and speak as if we’re carrying on a conversation we’ve never had.

Whatever the reason for the perceived animus I assure you it was unintended on my end.

I paid $150 for my pre purchase of GW2 I’ve bought gems since 2012 off and on with cash, I bought an account for my wife who also buys gems, I’ve built 2 custom PCs worth thousands that we play on, so this isn’t about being unable to pay $50 for an expansion.

When I bought GW2 I was wary of the gemstore which we were promised wouldn’t drive development, which was a lie (or as the hard core call it a shift in business models), but I’d already bought the game and loved it so we let that slide. This time however, I’m expected to reward Anet with another purchase (2 actually) with no idea if they’ve included raids or the size of the new map or anything of substance, they want me to trust them. Then they want to penalize me for owning the game by devaluing my purchase vs a brand new player’s purchase? No. I’ll play the core game and live in WvW if I have to, in protest.

“When I bought GW2 I was wary of the gemstore which we were promised wouldn’t drive development, which was a lie (or as the hard core call it a shift in business models)” > “I’ve bought gems since 2012”

Don’t buy gems if you do not like what is does to the game! A company will sell you everything you are willing to to, even if you buy it while finding it crap at the same time.

I was very much like you, well I wasn’t wary of the gem-store at first as Anet had a good name of focusing on expansion, not on the gem-store and the game was promoted as B2P. So I have always treated this game as a B2P game. Just as you as did buy the CE, but I did never buy any gems (and complained about the focus on them), now I have no problem with kitten,- or more expansion (will likely go for the Deluxe as they do not have a CE, so the Deluxe is the most extensive physical edition) but will get even less acceptance for the gem-store as the $50,- price fits a B2P model, not a cash-shop model.

You did say you disliked something but at the same time you supported it. That is not smart my friend.

I can’t argue with one word of that you’re absolutely right. I can promise never again though

The Irony of the HoT Paywall

@Mooncaller I agree that if a player’s arguement is that the expansion lacks content they would be upset at any price but if they feel that the expansion lacks content to justify the price, I can see that as valid. I own all the games myself and my wife and I are guildies which is cool, but for now, we aren’t buying because we feel we’re not getting a fair deal.

In this post, I’m simply replying to cases where the complaints are pushing too far and expecting more than their fair share. And while Aiden’s posts are the ones I chose due to his prominence in this particular thread, his sentiments echo countless others in other threads – my intent is not to single you out, Aiden, but simply to use you as a representative of them. Because it’s almost 3 A.M. and I can’t reply to each individual thread. (They’ll all probably fold into the primary thread, anyway.)

Wall of text (which I aprove of) post. I don’t feel singled out at all and I appreciate your sentiments although I disagree with your disagreement on a few points.

As an aside, the veteran player gets less than a new player that’s indisputable so if that’s brought up it’s best to ignore it, sorry not to be rude but it isn’t worth my time to argue that.

Anet gives new players the base game to avoid a Paywall but the packages offered will end creating one. This is what my post is about, new players in HoT while vets aren’t. LS S3 will most likely be in HoT and you can’t get there without the xpac so that is a Paywall locking out content yet to be released. This is my opinion, let’s hope it turns out well for GW2

Besides the pay wall the reaction from the current players/vets that don’t like the pre-purchase has already caused some new/potential players to not get the game at all.

There are players who take an attack on Anet as an attack on themselves. Even when Anet deserves criticism (which they do in this instance) the player base ends up fighting each other.

This is a sign of things to come I’m afraid, as all future content will be HoT realated and will cause a have vs. have not cast system within the community.

They are obviously going to dribble out information as the time to launch approaches, not because they’re trying to “hide” anything from the players, but just because it’s marketing 101 to keep people engaged. If they dumped every single detail about the game right now, then people would stop paying attention in the intervening months. It doesn’t take a middle school graduate to understand that.

Exactly the level of marketing expertise they’re displaying to this point. Freshman level econ is losing the company business.

@Omocha Guild Wars 2 has what I describe as “the illusion of loot”. If you play RPGs you see loads of loot drops, mostly trash, that you can disable in the menus so that only more valuable drops are visible. GW2 loot is almost exclusively the trash drops that I disable from view in a RPG.

The best loot is often RNG bags which means you’re rolling twice to get anything of value. This is one of the main gripes I’ve always had with the game.

Ahh my old friend the manifesto. Loved the game they promised more than I’ll ever love GW2. I’ll wait until launch and see if the xpac is worth my money. What the heck I’m already in Tyria so it needs to be good to get more cash from me. No pre purchasing this time Anet, unless you’ve got a new manifesto trailer, I always fall for those.

Im not an Anet fan/supporter. In fact, I don’t think too highly of them for how they settled past issues with me. Oh and my forum posts get deleted for being too honest.

Putting myself in their shoes, you whiners are impossible to satisfy and would rather shut down the company than serve you.

I’ve read people complain about supporting the game for 3 years and how it’s unfair for them to buy again. That logic is so flawed because it dismissed all the content they’ve enjoyed that new buyers will never experience.

Unless you are Blizzard, the MMO business isn’t as profitable as you believe. Scammy free download mobile gaming apps make more than large developers

Worthless post. If you were a business you would love to have customers like us.

1. We buy everything you sell
2. We love the product
3. We want the company to succeed

But as a customer I’m not purchasing this product until it’s offered on better terms. I own a business and I’d love the clients Anet has.

It’s really simple for me. HoT might be worth $50 if included a character slot, if the best-case scenario about what might be included pans out. I know for sure I’m not going to spend $50 for what’s been shown + $10 more for a slot so I can roll a Revenant. SIMPLY. NOT. HAPPENING. No entitlement here, just an unwillingness to be fleeced.

However, if I were a new customer, heck YES I’d take the deal A-net is offering them! But, I’m not a new customer…

New customers are certainly getting a great deal. The problem is if any new players wanted to play GW2 they’d already be playing. Anet might be in for an exciting time.

lol, and that’s why i said from the official site…..

posting “OLD” versions of an upgraded software on amazon is normal.
this is not an expansion, this is an upgrade.
it’s such a simple concept that will solve much confusion.

That’s what you asked for. You don’t get to tell me you want a link from the official site. If you’re incapable of comprehending the answer don’t ask the question.

all you are establishing is that the new player is getting a 39.99 value with 5 slots and ultimately getting the expansion for 10 dollars, an established player has to pay 74,99 dollars to get 1 slot and 1 expansion.

If you are incapable of understanding that, enjoy the beta – you paid for that right to be a bug hunter for free. cheap labor at it’s finest, beyond cheap you are paying for it. PT Barnum would love this. I’ll wait till you sort out the bugs and they have a more reasonable sale. No rush, so much to do in the main game still. I still need to let a skritt turn me into a jackalope or something like that, plenty to keep me busy for a few years actually.

You’re hilarious. Seriously you actually think I’m not comprending this? I’m not buying the expansion read my tag and then ask yourself why you would assume I did.

I provided a link proving that New players are getting a better value for their purchase than vets. I don’t expect you to admit you misunderstood and I don’t need you to but next time try to keep up.

Click the link below the comment box that says “Buy GW2 today”, where does it send you. Using other retailers to try to strengthen your argument actually does the opposite. ANet has since said there are NO plans to sell the core game and expansion separately. So what does this mean for other retailers?

As time goes on they’ll all be selling GW2 HoT and its separate editions as the new base game….

This is true. It is also true that I will not buy a bundle which includes software I already own.

Reminder: Factions and NF came with TWO slots and it just so happens those games also added two classes.

But now? 2015 ANet? They make one class and give 0 slots. This just perfectly frames ANet in my eyes as having lost any heart and integrity they once had.

Do we get tired of going in circles with this? They were stand alone games that were compatible with Prophecies. If they had come with no character slots they’d be unplayable.

I do wonder at the time if the question was, “Prophecies came with 4 slots, but factions only comes with 2!”

Every account has 2 complimentary character slots. Each of the three campaigns adds 2 slots to the account.

failing to do simple research when you haven’t played the previous game makes it trolly.

Ironically those expansions were stand alone expansions at a value of a stand alone game, here we have a few maps plus rebuying the core at a standalone price.

You missed the point entirely in your desire for pedantry.

Nightfall and Factions had to come with character slots because they were standalone products. It’s an invalid comparison based on an essential lack of understanding of the GW1 business model.

Not to mention not understanding that the GW1 business model and the GW2 business model are massively different, so that’s at least 2 reasons it’s an invalid comparison.

Nightfall and Factions are not standalone products. You need the original Guild Wars Prophecy to play them. Have you even played the original Guild Wars to be saying misleading things like that?

Apparently you haven’t lol… awkward…

on topic… I am absolutely entitled to spend my $50 how I please. I earned it and have no requirement to give it to Anet. They have only shown $15-20 of content so I will give them no more than $15-20. No matter how much anyone kicks and screams and calls me names you can’t make me spent my money on HoT. Well at least not until the liberals get involved and make it illegal not to purchase HoT.

I was with you until the liberal comment, I’m a liberal and I disaprove of HoT
