Unlucky since launch, RNG isn’t random
PugLife SoloQ
I just dropped another batch of greatswords into the forge and nothing, again. For everyone who has had luck in gw2 I say congrats! I for one however, have never had a precursor drop in open play, wvw, dungeons, or through the mystic forge, and I’ve thrown A LOT of weapons into the forge… My sample size is strong. So maybe if those of you who have had “luck” in this game had say, my “luck” you’d be as angry as I sound.
RNG makes some happy, most furious.
I hopped into a Wurm event and all of the talk was about making sure you’re running meta spec. All members of each class running the same builds and using the same skills in an event, not a dungeon. This is a very bad trend IMO and so I just left. Guild Wars 2 had lofty goals pre launch, and said all of the right things, but has become a game filled with rigid adherence to clone builds. Play the game the way you want to play it seems a distant memory.
This guy is why no one can finish it. Everybody wants to do their own thing. Playing a certain way in order to help the group finish the event is an alien concept.
Nobody is asking you to change how you play your toon forever. Just do what needs to be done for the 15 minutes that it takes to finish the event.
You missed the part where I left before it began. They failed without me, trolololo.
I know I’m probably going to make some heads explode with this, but….some of us play a build because we enjoy it, not because it’s the best min/max solution.
Thats totally cool – you can play whatever you want in Queensdale karma train. Wurm is a very hard emcounter atm with very tight dps check, most attempts lacking 5-10% DPS usually – its those shout heal warriors and AH celestial guardians who do not put their weight and dragging entire raid of 150 people down.
Zerker is the most viable build when it comes to dps check, people just need to learn to dodge and stop being bad.
P.S. LOL at shout heal warrior and other bearbows in this thread
Cannot crit wurm in phase 1. Zerker is only viable after phase 1, shouldn’t you know that?
Lol DPS check. You do realize its open world… Gear check for what? What do you do if someone tells you no, I will not ping, I don’t like you. LOL I’ll tell you what you’ll do, nothing.
Keep the questions coming and one year maybe they’ll answer.
And to point out why it encourages diversity in phase 1 its because its uncrittable in phase 1, which is fine, but then phase 2 you swap to zerk gear. It’s an odd mechanic, but the circle immunity is ridiculous in a game with no taunt.
Honestly reading these forums brings me the most down. Its why ppl are out right abandoning them. The game it self not that much brings me down i find my fun when i want to and can and i do not get huge up on parts that i do not like.
People are abandoning more than just forums.
First of all, please tell us all the optimal build for say a warrior when fighting the wurm. I’ll tell you that my shout healing warrior is more than likely twice as valuable to the success of that event than a zerker build (which BTW is why that event I left failed). 8 classes all running the same build, and they failed, just saying. Farming is about speed so faceroll works wonders for that and speed dungeons, but little else.
you could always play anyway you want, but not everyone wants to play like you. Many of us want to be efficient as possible which means using the best available build for our profession.
you sound pretty entitled with this post saying people shouldn’t play a meta
Just to make sure we understand each other here. You just called me entitled and then stated that you want to play the “best” build for your profession, which of course you are “entitled” to do.
I make my builds, I lose x percent of max DPS but I always do damage, because I’m not you know, dead. Run a zerker build in wurm all you like, you’ll be rezzing at the WP and running back while I on the other hand, have been doing damage the whole time.
Im not sure what the point of this thread is.
There has always been and always will be, optimal builds for specific content. Those optimal builds will evolve over time as the game changes and as people find new, more optimal builds.
If you like to make your own build outside of that, that’s nice, it more than likely wont be optimal, but go you!
There is only meta for speed runs. My point is this, that thinking has wormed it’s way into open world, for which, there is no meta.
Entitled? Listen, comprehension is the first rule of communication so try again.
We, are the knights who say META!
ARGH NUU STOP IT FGHDJGHJKGHD
Replace meta with cookie cutter if you like.
you are aware that the triple wurm event is what is called an open world RAID right ?
as such it is designed with meta builds in mind and made as hard as possible to beat using mentioned meta builds, now imagine trying to beat that kind of content with your idea of fun build? from that perspective I say if you wanna run your cookie have fun build don’t go trying to join a RAID !Too many people don’t question the meta and do what they’re told. You don’t know why you run the build you run except “Cuz damage lawl.”
Based on what? Against what? How many variations have you tried? How much research have you put into it? How can you improve it? What’s its strengths and weaknesses?
If you have to pause to think about any of those questions, please stop getting involved in build discussions. You clearly don’t know what makes a build.
Very well said. While zerker gear can work in a dungeon where you can burn down a boss in seconds, it has made the community a bit soft and uninspired. In an event where you actually take damage, must dodge, must mitigate, and where crowd control is beneficial, zerker thinking becomes a hinderence to the group.
I make builds for my characters based on how I play the class, and to best meet what content I’m playing. Yes, most of my characters own full sets of knights or zerker gear, its just not the best setup in most cases.

You’re aware that there is nothing they could’ve done to make me leave right? I left because I’m tired of hearing meta talk. Speed runs are one thing, this is open world, and 90% of the time even with full meta, you fail.
Don’t try to join a raid? 100 uplevels could hop in a zone.
Still waiting for a response from Anet.

They’ve stated that they can push out content equivalent to an expansion…. I have seen no evidence of this thus far, so I expect that in this BIG patch.
That would mean:
New class
New race
New map
New armor
New weapons
New legendaries
Housing
Bugs squashed
Precursor crafting
And mounts (lol why not)
Without flippers the supply of most of the high-end items precursors to runes would greatly decrease. Including the supply of cloth/leather. How do you get cloth/leather? From salvage and bags. Who puts massive supplies of cloth/leather on the market flippers do. Limiting the amount of transaction anyone is capable of doing on TP would just increase prices on everything.
Sorry but I call bullkitten on that one. Flippers add nothing at all to the TP, THEY ARE NOT FARMERS, they buy low sell high, that’s it. The supply of precursors would be unaffected as would anything else.

It’s not PVE, I want to not be out-geared in WvW due to ridiculous grinds. ANet advertised the game as a non-grindy vertical progression game, and that’s what I expected going in. I commended GW2 for making on the first truly fair PvP MMOs. And they ruined that.
sPvP is where you go head to head. WvW is supposed to be more tactical (not saying it is on every server, but it’s supposed to be).
Are you really saying that as a level 80 in exotic gear which anyone can afford you’re getting roflstomped by players in ascended gear and it has nothing to do with your skill level?
Two evenly matched characters, one in exos, the other in ascended, the ascended wins. But the odds of fighting against a player the same skill are slim.
In short, gw2 has the worst loot of any mmo I’ve played, ever (I’ve been around). The garbage drops are plentiful enough, if you’re a fan of garbage.
This. I’m not going to let this thread die until a dev has answered some questions.
Prepare to stay here a long time then. Developers tend to not react to silly threats like this, as they shouldn’t.
Threat is the wrong word. That was a statement of intention. You may agree or disagree with this thread but its not ending.
Well congratulations on starting an opinion based topic that anyone who’s played the game can easily see as ridiculous. MMOs are largely about the loot. You’ve asked a few times when trying to make you opinion sound like fact for someone to name a game that has less grind and better RNG than GW2, so I’ll answer…. World of Warcraft. I left WoW 3 years ago but I played it non stop from beta until I left. If you want something in WoW you can get it by killing mob X or by running dungeon Y until you get it, this goes for anything you want. In GW2 let’s say I try to farm lodestones, I may get 1 or 10 or none since its RNG, and until DR kicks in even though I may not have had even ONE drop. And there is no way to guarantee a precursor drop, I’ve never had one in all of my time in game, and I’ve played hard since beta.
So killing Mob X over and over is still RNG and no different from GW2 as the killing does not gurantee that desired result. Same with Dungeon Y. Both have RNG. So whats your point in stating it has the exact same type of RNG as GW2? There is no way to guarantee a drop from what you just said about WoW either since its still under RNG. Precursors as stated above are not set into a location due to their availability to everyone (expect PVP). Only difference between GW2 RNG and WoW RNG that you stated so far is WoW has rare items set to locations where as GW2 does not.
This means there is higher access to this object than in WoW. Since there is higher access to it they countered it by placing it under a lower value to keep its economic value higher. If it was guaranteed the weapon essentially would be worthless and common which in turn makes legendaries lower in value in comparison to other exotics that are harder to acquire.
Your response indicates that either you did not or cannot comprehend what I wrote, or that you no experience with WoW, at all, which why you dare claim that resources are more accessible in this game than in that one. Very funny.
Do you know what accessibility is? In WoW it is true that certain armour and weapons exist in certain locations. Which means it has low accessibility. Since there is only one way to get that gear. Higher accessibility means there are more ways to get that gear. GW2 dungeon armour has low accessibility. Precursors in GW2 have a high accessibility but extremely low availability due to their drop rates being low but can be found in all parts of the game.
If you want something you can farm it in WoW. Farming in Guild Wars 2 is a joke. Want me to prove point? Fine, go farm Linen Cloth on your 80. Jenga.

Anet allows you to buy gold.
With the same amount of cash you’d spend on a pick that nets you a few extra sprockets, you could instead get gold and buy a million sprockets.
Simple math makes everyone in this thread a fool.
People talking about a “dangerous precedent” need to open their eyes.
We have always been on our gear treadmill….. we have a gold buying system in place… and you can buy the most prestigious items in the game (legendaries) with gold.
You knew all of this when you started playing.
No gear treadmill, no grind, with the gem store only selling cosmetic items, that was the manifesto when WE bought, or I wouldn’t have. You cannot string worlds together, call facts, and not expect to get corrected when you are incorrect.
Better idea, give ANet a chance to apologize for an obvious PTW item slipping into the gem store so they can remove it and move on.
If not, then I don’t see it ending well, as the original idea was to give players the convenience of not having to buy gathering tools perpetually. Nowhere in the game is there a pick that can harvest sprockets, hence this in not convenient, it is however giving an advantage.
It’s not pay to win. You’ll make more money with regular picks than you ever will with this thing.
You have no idea what PTW is then. If you don’t pay, you no can has sprockets.
I mined sprockets just last night without this pick. You need to get your facts straight.
Also, since when were sprockets required to win. In a culture where anything other than berzerker gear is considered selfish, what do I need sprockets for?
Silly. My facts are pristine. You cannot mine sprokets from any gathering node that is not the meta reward in your home instance. These picks ADD loot to all nodes in the world.
IMO, it’s definitely p2w. It would be fine if it’s only skin and effect but actually gaining more stuff is really bad design no matter the value of the item gained. Bad precedent.
Completely agree. NO advantage should be purchased with gems. Black Lion kits offer this, but Anet were sneaky enough to make those drop like candy early on so no one felt offended.
Remove all added loot from the new picks.
Sprockets trade at the same value as copper ATM, once Scarlett is gone, they should go up. Adding loot to nodes which is only obtainable using this pick is terrible.
The pick adds loot to mining that no other pick can get. My harvesting tools are solely cosmetic and infinite, which give me zero advantage over any other player who uses Ori picks.
This is a massive red flag for GW2 in my opinion, and I think we are in for serious P2W items soon. Say what you will about sprockets being cheap and that a player will not make any real money from using these picks over Molten Picks, but sprockets trade for the same amount as copper ATM. This game is headed in the wrong direction.
Its a power creep in gem store store items…. Fact.
Its a slap in the face to those who bought Molten Picks… Fact.
You cannot get sprockets from mining without buying it…. Fact.
It’s the beginning of P2W… My opinion.
I hate the pick… Fact.
P2W items start appearing and players will disappear.
Adding loot that is unobtainable to nodes via a gem store item is offensive. I own the the previously un-gamebreaking Molten Pick which only skinned the the mining of nodes, giving me zero advantage. This is a horrid move by Anet, and one that makes me worry about the future of this game, and my time spent playing it.
buuuhuuuu, people who pay more get more than people who pay less. people who manage to acquire more gold and transform to gems get more than people who acquire less. An outrage. Well, improve in game or, like, get a better job or something…. Oh well, I forgot, GW2 is “casual paradise”, sorry, let me shed a tear for ya… world´s tiniest violin is going to play a song, sit and listen. Or grab your smartphone and download Angry Birds. At last a game where noone bothers you with being better or earning more money in real life.
Nice attempt to troll, or serious cry for help. Either way, I’ll treat that rant as a joke, and continue to be polite.
This is a laughable move on the part of Anet. This is the IMO the shot across the bow announcing Pay to Win, or at least testing the waters. It is pay to win “but you guys don’t mind right, its only sprockets!” I mind.
To answer the “human” above, I paid more for my copy of GW2 than you did (or at least you didn’t pay more for your Collectors Edition than I did) and I’ve bought gems with cash and gold because I’m not poor in game or IRL so Jenga. I and many others take issue with anything introduced into the gem store that threatens to turn this game many of us love, into a joke. I will not play a PTW game, period. As I have purchased this B2P game and even additonaly funded it by purchasing gems and a second account, this is my game. This PTW feature must be removed and never attempted again in any form.
Actually it is PTW and its very simple. If you don’t spend gems to buy the pick, you cannot get that particular resource from mining. It is not available without buying gems with either cash or gold. Using this pick gives an additional monetary gain over my Molten Pick which is only a permanent skinned version of the Original pick.
I sincerely hope this was a mistake and not intended. I own a set of unlimited tools and they’re the last I’ll ever need, or are they? Why the hell would Anet add a resource to existing nodes which can only be obtained with a gem store item? Remove this ability entirely. Do not add it to my Molten Pick as then I would have an advantage over players using the Ori Picks. My pick can mine everything and lasts forever and has a cool animation, anything more is pay to win. Shame on you A net, remove this now.
I also bought the nodes and do not regret it in the slightest. Taking things into consideration like the WP cost (even if it wasn’t free by other means) is silly because there is and will be more nodes to mine.
100 dollars? I’ve spent £60 in January alone and do not regret any of my purchases.
@Wazne I’m not sure why your having a go at very people who allow you to play this game, yes…the “gem store buyer”.
What allows all of US to play this game is the fact that WE bought the game. You allow nothing, your are in control of nothing. If this game kittens on its player base you, the gem buyers, (CE owner, 2nd account for my wife, and former gem buyer BTW) will be running around this game solo wondering where everyone went.
Gem sales don’t allow me to play, my purchase of the game did that.
Just to clarify, when I purchased my dye kit, nowhere did it say I’m paying for a chance of a certain dye. I purchased thinking I was getting a flame dye, like it said I would. Anet needs to give a clear description on it’s dyes, I didn’t know it was rng, and it didn’t state it was rng so yes it is a con
This is what the dyes say:
Contains one random flame-themed armor dye from a pool of 25 colors, including six exclusive new colors.
Contains one random frost-themed armor dye from a pool of 25 colors, including six exclusive new colors.
Contains one random armor dye from a pool of 25 colors that includes six new, exclusive colors
Contains one random armor dye from a pool of 25 colors that includes six new, exclusive colors
I would say it is extremely clear that there is a CHANCE to get a exclusive dye.
They even tell you the chance (6 of 25).And to let every person who plays this game know, whether they be new players or people like myself who’ve played since bwe 1, these dyes are 100% RNG. You would be better served buying from the TP with your gold. I consider these dyes to be a scam, not anything that would warrant legal action, but incredibly misleading and not at all worthy of investment.
RNG (random number generator) or luck, means that some will have success and most will fail. This is an unregulated casino with the odds being controlled solely by Anet. Buyer Beware.
I would also like to add that the fact that they would include dyes in the “pool of 25 colors” that are of the lowest quality and therefore Ingame price is absurd and offensive. As I stated, 4 or my 5 dyes were worth a total of 4 silver on the Trading Post. The low rare I opened was a 40 silver dye. Gems are trading at 8g per 100 ATM so spend roughly 40g worth of gems and you too can open 44 silver worth of dyes.
I avoid RNG at all costs as I stated earlier. I am posting my experience with these dye packs here as a public service to the community.
I don’t understand why people get so bent out of shape when they try their luck at the RNG game, and lose.
If you can’t afford the gold/gems/$$$ to gamble with RNG, then DON’T.
If you think that you’re going to beat RNG, you WON’T.
There is nothing wrong with this mechanic, as it works perfectly. People who want luxury items can either 1) buy them off the TP for a high price and guarantee that they get what they want, or 2) gamble, but risk getting nothing in return.
I’ll answer. I paid for themed dyes, I got blue rarity dyes that have nothing at all to do with the event the dye pack is named for. I got starter dyes and paid 500 gems. I call bull kitten.
I bought 5 dyes and got 4 low quality dyes (2 identical) and only 1 rare dye (that is not one of the new dyes) I would recommend that everyone who wants to buy these dyes prepare for SERIOUS disappointment. It’s my birthday so I figured what the hell, but i have since day 1 REFUSED to spend any cash or gems from gold on any RNG item until now. And this is why. This is a terrible design idea from Anet and I will never spend another dime on this game. I swear.
I won’t be finishing this meta even though I’ve been active every week of the season. They need to seriously re-evaluate this if they ever expect to do this again.
My server sucked hard during the majority of the season which was not enjoyable and coupled with some of these achievements required for the meta has turned me off quite a bit.
Add a kitten daily wvw like you do for other living world events or count me out.
You may say well you’re just one player, which is true, but look at how empty some of the servers are when in the mists and I’ll say, I’m not alone.
This is a ridiculous decision on Anet’s part.
Summoned creature AI is a different can of worms that we aren’t opening for the same reason. Pets that delay F2 use isn’t some wait script we put into their skills it has to do with core AI behavior shared by all pets and creatures and how they decide tasks. Rewriting that has the risks of breaking millions of unknown things so we have up until now band aided the solution. It is something that needs addressing but won’t be addressed until we can kitten how and when we will test it.
The reason you can’t get it to work is the same reason why all pets must be re-named when swapped. You are using (for example) the same juvenile jaguar that exists in the world as the ranger pet. The animations of the ranger pets, their behaviors, are the same as those you encounter in pve as a mob.
To counter the skill activation lag:
Imeadiately on F2 the ranger pet goes into blurred frenzy or distortion which would allow for the replacement of the current animation set with the special ability animation set. This would also be a nice visual clue to opponents that the ranger has activated F2 so they can prepare and not make it game breaking, or OP, just working as intended.

If you’re serious about wanting to promote build diversity the move Evasive Arcana to a master tier trait and there you go. At the moment you’d be a fool not have it so instead of destroying arcana, move that trait.
I can’t log in either.
“Perceived strange drop behavior” is offensive language to those of us who’ve been dealing with this train wreck of a DR shift for months. I am not speculating I am telling you that since the devs changed the loot rates on Unid Dyes shortly after they allowed them to drop too easily I have seen maybe 1 a week since. That is not perception it easily verifiable by pulling up my accounts logs.
The change in title from the last thread to this seems like a poor attempt to hide the problem from those who have yet to buy the game.
An MMO without satisfying rewards ie LOOT is not worth my time. Fix the kittening drop rate already. It’s getting to the point that I’m beginning to miss the bots.
Another day passes without a fix to the loot issue (funny it took a few days to fix an above average drop rate). It’s about time to call a spade a spade, this was intended, and Anet is no longer the company I used to stick up for. They are not sell outs…. They were SOLD. Gimmie Gimmie cash grab loot nerfing Nexon the overlords of Anet.
if you’re no longer having fun…why play? this game has a rather large audience from casual mmo player to grindfest mmo player to dungeon crawler and people after ‘phat lewtz.’ anet can’t please everyone so invariably, someone will get angry. if those players don’t vibe with this game…go play something else.
This is the same snide comment made when others including myself tied to tell Bioware that they had serious issues with swtor. And guess what? EVERYONE did leave and play another game, so be kitten sure you want what you’re asking for here. You want everyone who has an issue with the game to bail ROFL you’d be like the hardcore swtor lovers who watched the game rot and die.
Guild Wars 2 is MY game, it is YOUR game too. We bought the game we play the game so when someone takes the time to point out a serious flaw in the loot system in an MMO that recently nerfed drops, be silent of you’re not coming up with solutions.
The drop rates are a joke roll back to September rates pre loot pinata patch, there, problem solved. See how easy it is when you’re constructive?
