Stability on Overloads is great, but it REALLY needs to be a minor trait otherwise the other 2 master traits will NEVER see play.

This. It is mandatory.

Altair.8402

These are all great ideas. Earthen Proxy and Latent Stamina are two traits that need a bit more. It’s a possibility that E.P. could be merged with H.C.. I’ve seen quite a few mentions of that so far and it’s something that we’ve talked about a bit internally. If that were the case, we would need another Master slot trait.

One way that E.P. will probably change is that it will only affect the elementalist, because it’s just way too difficult to tell if someone is being affected by your protection, or someone else’s… so it would be the case that 100% of protection applied to you would reduce 40% damage.
It’s possible to add a ‘no crit’ line to H.C., but it would start to be crowded for the master slot and might overlap too much (and be out of theme) when compared with Stone Heart.

With that being said, what sort of support/boon trait would you like to see it replaced with? Keeping in mind the roles of Tempestuous Aria (Shout ally DPS-add/Enemy weakness trait) and Harmonious Conduit (DPS/anti-control trait), is there something that you’d imagine would fit AoE support in a generic way.
H.C. was intended to be a generic anti-dps option (with ties to the spec’s stengths), so keeping it in that vein would be something we’d want to shoot for.

Cheers,
-Karl

If you were to merge EP with HC and put it as the GM minor trait, the issue is that Harmonious Conduit is pretty much mandatory for the stability to make overloads useful. As a result, I can’t see any other major master trait being taken at all.

How about:

  • Make Harmonious Conduit the GM minor trait (get rid of the 10% damage bonus)
  • Make the EP + HC merged trait a major master
  • Finally add a major master trait that gives a temporary power buff / might stacks / 10% damage increase to allies after you complete an overload. This will incentivize using overloads, fits in with tempests’ “supportive” design, and adds a damage modifier that tempests are missing.

Get rid of Hardy Conduit as a minor trait.

Replace Earthen Proxy with Hardy Conduit.

Hardy Conduit now increases the effectiveness of protection on yourself only, in addition to giving protection on overloads.

Add a new minor trait that gives increasing buffs the longer you’ve remained in your current attunement.

Why isn’t anyone complaining about meteor shower? Granted the radius is larger, but it does 1.5x the damage of icebow #4 with 1/2 the CD (1/3 if you trait for it).

I believe the quick answer is because you don’t see meteor shower melting bosses in organized groups. If it’s not common, there’s likely a reason something else is being used more often. In this case, that something else is ice bow. Do you think meteor shower should be nerfed as well?

I think it’s because ice bow does its damage in a shorter time so it’s more apparent when you’re looking at the health bar. My point is that ice bow dps isn’t so “above and beyond” everything else that it warrants a nerf.

I don’t feel like the traits encourage any sort of playstyle or do anything worthwhile that synergizes with the tempest playstyle. Having tempest for a specialization honestly feels like I’m getting an empty trait line. The minor traits should honestly be baseline (all they’re doing is making up for the risk of overloads, and they don’t even do a good job at that). Picking between major traits feels like “which one is the least useless?” rather than deciding between meaningful choices. I can honestly think of 0 cases where traits like latent stamina, unstable conduit, and element bastion are useful. Also, why are traits like latent stamina and earthen proxy in tempest in the first place, as opposed to water and earth?

Look at the herald traits for example: they all synergize with the herald’s playstyle of providing boons while managing upkeeps. Extra toughness for each point of upkeep, increased damage based on boons, boons applying might to allies, endurance regen while using upkeep skills, etc. All of these are meaningful choices that encourage the herald playstyle.

With that said, I’d like to see traits that:
Provide rewards for granting boons and auras to allies that’s not as limiting as attuning to water or a paltry heal on auras.
Provide rewards for staying in one attunement for an extended period of time.
Lessen the risk of overloading attunements.
Provide rewards for succesfully finishing an overload.

Raid Gear Suggestion

Altair.8402

It’s very easy to get full exotics,

You know, I keep seeing people say that, but… is it?

We have new players coming in due to F2P, and perhaps more due to raids. Is there a guide to easily getting the exotic gear they need? If not, should someone (I call “not it”!) make one?

It won’t matter how easy it is to do, if they don’t know that. This is a problem we might want to deal with now, before it bites us.

If someone’s doesn’t even know how to get exotics or can’t afford exotics, do you honestly think they’ll have the game knowledge and skill to successfully complete raids even if you gave them full legendary equipment?

Ok, Condi builds officially have me confused.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Altair.8402

Altair.8402

Yeah I don’t particularly like how direct damage has 3 attributes related to it but condition damage only has 1 (from equipment). The highest damage “condi” builds isn’t even pure condition damage, but a mix of power and condition damage.

Right now (to the best of my knowledge) it’s impossible to match a direct damage build’s DPS via only condition damage. There isn’t anything wrong with this (or Dire would be hilariously OP) except for the lack of variety.

What I’d like to see: introduce condition duration and a third attribute that somehow enhances conditions. Then a build focusing on condi damage, condi duration, and this third attribute should be dealing around the same DPS as zerkers.

I disagree. Different rewards should be specific to different content, and should match the difficulty of said content. This has been staple game design since the dawn of video games and is in no way related to raids specifically.

Making rewards generic devalues the rewards themselves. If I’m playing Pokemon and every time I walk in tall grass, the game gives a list of all the Pokemon to choose from, don’t you see how ridiculous that is?

Rebound needs to not be something that’s a generic cooldown reducer. Even if the numbers are tuned so it’s perfectly balanced and all bugs related to it are fixed, it still:

Minor Grandmaster:
Gale Song: Trigger “Eye of the Storm” when CC’d.

Major Adept:
Latent Stamina: Auras you apply also apply vigor.
Tempestuous Aria: Shouts give might and weakness. CD reduced by 20%.
Imbued Melodies: Warhorn abilities break stun for nearby allies. CD reduced by 20%.

Major Master:
Speedy Conduit: Gain swiftness and quickness when overloading an attunement.
Hardy Conduit: Gain protection and resistance when overloading an attunement.
Stable Conduit: Gain stability when overloading an attunement.

Major Grandmaster:
Element Bastion: After completing overload, apply auras to nearby allies. Auras heal when applied.
Element Potency: After completing overload, same attunement skills do 10% additional damage for 20 seconds.
Element Furor: After completing overload, reset all other attunement CDs. Attunements can be overloaded after 3 seconds.

I want the content maintained as was seen in the beta, I haven’t enjoyed PvE this much in such a long time. I would be bitterly disappointed if complaints from people, who haven’t put much effort in, derail the trend to engaging content.

You can say you’re casual and want it to cater for you but you have so much already please just give us this – if you try a bit harder and learn what your class can do I’m sure you can enjoy it with me (its not even that hard really).

I hope anet stick to their guns and keep the game fresh.

You’re missing the point, I don’t want to try harder, i want to come home after a hard day of real life, sit on my pc for 2 hours and relax and unwind with some friends doing stuff that don’t stress, or strain me. I try hard already in life, in a game i don’t want to try at all.

I don’t get to make the decision if it’s gonna be casual friendly or not, I ‘m not collin (I promise), all i’m saying is that as a casual I expect the experience in this game to remain consistent. Trust me i’m not about to barge in on your challenging group content, i just want to roam the jungle, enjoy the story, grind my masteries while relaxing and go about my business. This game was marketed as an all inclusive casual friendly game, you’re not just asking for this little bit to change, you pretty much want the game to change target groups. And if it does, i’m sure people like me will leave the second we’re through with the story. Nothing more, nothing less.

Let’s agree to disagree then. For me, I want the difficulty in Verdant Brink to be a baseline where everything else in the expansion increases upon.

I don’t understand how people say it’s harder to run zerkers in VB compared to Silverwastes and other level 80 zones. All the mobs I’ve seen either have obvious tells (smokescales, trolls, snipers) or do so little damage I can facetank them as a zerker tempest. Compared to SW leeching thrashers that snipe you in 3 hits in some obscure location or Orr events where you die for no reason, I actually think VB is easier in most aspects.

Let’s see how many players will actually care to put the effort in making it public… probably very few…

The problem is… those that wish to use it to exclude and “gear check” others are simply going to say, make it public or kick same as if they don’t like what they see.

How’s that different from “ping gear or kick” we have now?

Ok, I’m bored so here’s some suggestions:

Overloads

  • Overloads should be more rewarding if successfully channeled
  • All overloads take 5 seconds to channel, with effects occurring every second while channeling
  • Finishing a channel grants boons and summons some sort of entity based on the attunement
  • The entity performs the same tasks as actually overloading that attunement, but somewhat weaker
  • The entity is untargetable and slowly follows the player
  • The entity disappears when changing attunements or starting overloading the current attunement, but otherwise stays around for a long time

Tempest BW1: Let's Vote!

in Elementalist

Posted by: Altair.8402

Altair.8402

Overall: 2
It’s ok, but falls far short of what it could’ve potentially been.

Traits: 2
Many of them need to be reworked or consolidated. Tempestuous Aria not giving 20% shout CD reduction, no trait for stability on overload, vigor on attuning to water is useless and doesn’t thematically make sense as a tempest trait, no damage multiplier to make the trait line attractive over water / arcane in PvE, etc.

Warhorn: 4
No complaints here, except would’ve preferred a main hand weapon. Haven’t used it too much though.

Overloads: 2
Has the potential of changing profession gameplay style via its risk and reward nature. Problem is it’s almost never worth it right now in its current state. In PvP it’s easily interrupted, and in PvE standing next to a boss for the entire channel without the ability to dodge will get you killed. Either increase the reward of successfully channeling an overload or decrease the costs.
Suggestion: Finishing a channel creates some sort of object that persists until attunement switch. The tornado in fire overload would stay there and deal damage continuously, and when switching attunements it could detonate and burn nearby enemies or something. Same with other overloads.

Healing Skill: Haven’t used it enough to make a decision.

Utilities: 4
Eye of the storm feels lacking for 45 second CD. Maybe it’ll be better if super speed was not bugged. Everything else looks fine although I’m unsure if it’ll provide viable alternatives for cantrips in PvP or ice bow / glyph of storms for PvE.

Elite Skill: 1
Remove it. Balance and numbers aside, it doesn’t fit tempest thematically.

Animations / sound effects: 4
Some animation inconsistencies with overloads (end of earth overload for example) and generic warhorn sounds. Overall pretty good. I do personally think overloads should be more “flashy” however.
