There’s always “controversies” like this happening to every MMO, I’m sure this will blow over like they all did once people see the reality of the mechanics. I just chalk this up to simple knee-jerk reaction on part of gamers.

I not surprised you don’t understand how deep years of strong rivalry and hatred can affect things. Personal emotions have always been the major thing that destroys many things and personal emotion is something a person cannot just brush off like it was never there.

They may have formed the Pact to stop the dragons but that Personal Emotion they have between other members of the other Order still remains and any slite push towards one ego can cause one order to see themselves better above the other as stated in the Personal Story.

No I don’t understand and I don’t want to, if they can’t get over rivalry to deal with a world ending threat and be professional then it’s time to find more qualified people to do the job.

The rivalry at best is just a weak excuse to justify Trahearne’s existence.

No, people skip this boss because he’s a boring timesink with horrible loot attached. I’d rather save those five minutes on my Omnombar so I can squeeze another path in.

I didn’t know you could even skip him but I agree with it, seriously the guy gives out garlic bread. Dungeon bosses need better rewards period.

They already stated the Pact Leader must not be a member of the 3 Orders nor former member and since our character is a member of the 3 Orders being leader of the Pack ourselves will risk very high tension among the 3 Orders and cause the Pact to fall apart almost instantly.

If the Pact falls apart simply because of something so trivial as that, then they deserve to be crushed by the dragons.

I’m not here to white knight for this game, but as someone that played the original Guild Wars, you gotta have a different mindset than what you’re used to with other MMOs. In fact just throw it out the window.

The most important thing one needs to remember about GW games is this: No commitments. That usually explains what you may perceive as a population decline is simply players just not logging on to do something else, play the new Halo, whatever.

With no commitments and fairly easy to attain goals (not counting legendaries of course) a person can finish their checklist pretty quickly and likely won’t have much else to do.

She was also much disliked at the time of Nightfall, for almost exactly the same kind of reasons. Complaining may not fix the issue, but might prevent the Arena Net writers making the mistake a third time.

I wouldn’t count it, they didn’t learn from Nightfall, and they’re poised to make the same mistake again with the “chosen one norn” when the Jormag chapter kicks in.

Main things that GW2 lacks, your opinions.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amlin.6041

The storyline for me kills it the most, seeing it as nothing more than Kormir 2.0. The dungeons aren’t really all that fun, Anet had some really nice ideas to spice them up but I miss the wide open space, the bigger group size, and the frantic and chaotic aspect of GW1.

Here it just feels small, closed in, and the fights feel too intimate like 1v1 dueling than a group of people fighting against a big group of monsters. It doesn’t have that same arcade feel of a beat em up that GW1 had. Vizunah Square is a perfect example of a simple but fun instance. GW2 dungeons on the other hand feel more like all the other 5 mans in every other stale MMO out there.

I think it has to be realized that it’s not always about the mechanics of a fight it’s also just the mindless fun factor which makes people want to just do it for kicks.

Trahearne

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amlin.6041

Anet has a grand vision of the story narrative, they want their characters to shine and we the players are just along for the ride. The problem is not a lot of people like that as evidenced by the threads in these official forums, and among others, as well as the blogosphere.

I frankly don’t think the next chapter will be any different, they write these stories well in advance so it’s probably too late to make any real significant changes to the how it’s presented. With the Jormag’s tooth broken by a chosen Norn which is going to be an npc like Trahearne most likely, it’ll be the same with all the other dragons as well. Some npc takes the glory we just stand by the side giving a thumbs up.

I’d be honestly happily amazed if I’m wrong about the story in the coming chapters but I’m not holding my breath.

I haven’t seen many pure pug swarms really do this event with any measure of success, it’s usually a coalition of a few organized guilds that beat it. I usually just luck out and follow them when they do it.

The difficulty isn’t the issues with me, it’s the timer, I’m sure pugs could probably knock it out but they would need more time…lot more time. Another note is the vendors as mentioned in another thread really just need to be available a 100% of the time elsewhere. Seeing Temple of Balth threads all over this forum simply because people need their shards is just sad really.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Level cap increases in MMOs usually is just a way to make the players stomach leveling and force them to through another 8-10 zones from the next expansion. I like how it was in GW1, the level cap was set and every expansion was a standalone.

Will this game be still worth to play now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amlin.6041

I play a lot of MMOs and I feel that this game is on the top right now if only for the fact that Anet addressed a lot of the annoying crap that MMOs have had for years now.

The fact that there’s no killstealing, zones are more fluid in your progression through them, and plenty of socially rewarding mechanics in place helps make it a nicer game to play.

Sure the game has issues with balancing the endgame stuff and storyline but ignoring all that the game as a whole is really well done. It’s worth the money, if you ask me, the endgame though, is up to you to figure out. Everyone has their own opinion on it. Me? It feels the same as when I was a GW1 player, finish the leveling, do a few instances, put the game down, play once in a while.

Felix.3467, relax I wasn’t saying you and your playgroup were fairweather pvpers, in fact I wasn’t even aware that we’re having a discussion in this direction.

The point I was trying to make was simply servers get too many bandwagon players transferring and killing population of the losing server. Add to that the big name pvp guild/alliances seemingly moving around all the time to avoid people following them and messing up their queues. So that’s another problem with transfers, the real issue is Anet needs to make transfers cost something now, and incentivize sticking to a server.

I was actually disappointed with how Zhaitan was presented in the game, other than expecting him to be much bigger I also wished that he was a world event. It didn’t feel epic enough in a 5 man dungeon and in fact it diminished his impact and presence.

I feel that if he was a massive world event chain with his own area in the Orr zones dedicated to just doing this multi event chain to kill him it would have made it much more fun.

Would it likely end up a zerg? Sure, would it make it less fun? I don’t think so, I mean it certainly can’t be worse than just pelting him with fireworks till he falls over yes?

The bandwagon transferring really needs to be dealt with, and by dealt with I mean it’s time for anet to address the server transferring issue. Anyone that pays attention to the WvW sees that it’s usually one big server having 200k while the other two are at 40k.

The first day you can see numbers pretty fairly spaced out sure but as the week rolls on people leave to join the winning server. I really hate to see the fate of WvW about who becomes just a fotw server.

I’ve played dungeons with my guildmates/friends and while I personally can say that combatwise the game is pretty balanced. Now I can’t say the same for the rather cheap mechanics or just down right flawed design of some of events in there.

Take for example the weird pillow and spike room in CM, the fire orb hallway in CoF, and the Magg fire extinguisher run. It’s those that feel to me weren’t really thought out well enough. One is just a cheap way to kill you and the is just bad execution as the npc ai is just flawed.

Sadly though being a long time MMO gamer I know a lot of bad pugs and usually I stay away from them. Occasionally you luck out like I did but they’re very rare from my experience. Still I wish you all the best of luck on your pugging endeavors.

FYI we had mostly rangers. /trollface

I got to this point in the story arc last night. I excused myself from TeamSpeak with my guild so I could concentrate on the episode (“A Light in the Darkness” I think it was called.)

When it was done, I sat dumbfounded for a few moments and then went back to TS. “So let me get this straight,” I said over my headset. “I just spent nearly sixty levels honing my skills, defeating evil, and rising through the ranks of the Order of Whispers… in order to play second banana to a sword-wielding salad?!”

The understanding guffaws I heard in response pretty much confirmed my suspicions. To rub salt into the proverbial wounds, my “reward” was one of two really crappy blue weapons.

I can’t even begin to express how disinclined I am to even progress the story now. Haven’t been this disappointed in a storyline since Mass Effect 3. And at least they (eventually) tried to fix that one. I’m not sure you can unring this particular bell.

It’s this fact alone that I leveled my third 80 without doing any story missions after I got “Orders of Tyria” level 21. Remembering why I disliked how Anet always seems to screw over player characters, I couldn’t not force myself to stomach this author avatar ego stroking for yet again.

What can I say that hasn’t been said in a far more eloquent manner here? Well other than the fact that I personally don’t like the character nor do I like how the personal story is presented in GW2.

Perhaps I’m spoiled by having played Bioware games and Witcher games, but when it comes to RPG experience I need to have that freedom of the type of personality and direction I want my character to go to.

I’ve played GW1 so I know that Anet prefers your player characters to be on the goody goody side but it just seems like a wasted opportunity with GW2. With such advancements in the technology and architecture the personal story being so linear was just downright disappointing.

So in light of the criticism by many players, in this forum, guru, youtube, etc, I hope that the expansion offers more freedom of choice in the story. I would love to play my character the way I always wanted to in GW and that’s just an anti-hero that doesn’t play second fiddle to anyone and not a superman boyscout.

Bragging rights which is what most people that wanna grind and can do so with the special armor skin farming that’s been goin on for 7+ years with the GW games. Not enough? Ok go stomp faces in pvp and show how much of a Sam Jackson Jedi you are, still not enough? Fine you got me there, go back to WoW, SWToR, EQ where gear not skill counts for your jawsomeness.

In order for that small percentage of players to “want” to but those gems they are going to “need” a reason for them in the first place. Vanity items cannot sustain a substantial income regardless of what anyone says. There will not be enough profit made to validate an expansion of any type. People need a purpose.

It worked just fine for GW1.

GW has always been more about pvp, pve you can beat, maybe farm some armor skins if you want, get some achievements, but they were never really there to keep you. Anet is about pvp and if you’re not gonna do that there’s not much this game can keep ya.

I went into this having been a GW1 player for years and I know that once I beat the storyline all I got left is farming for cool armor skins and time waster achievements or I can pvp. I’m not big on pvp anymore so other than occasionally getting on to farm gold I’m pretty much done till next expansion.

Amlin.6041

Orr is definitely my least liked zone in GW2…in fact I will be bold enough to say that it is my least liked zones in any MMO…ever.

It is a massive slog to mow through mobs just to get from one way point to the next, oh sure you can run through them and the like but still the place is just a major pain to get around. Worst part about it is just makes getting to events really hard or just a major hassle, I’m starting to see less and less people doing the ones further away from the outposts just because of the gauntlet you need to run through.

With waypoints being annoyingly costly in the long run at 80, players will just coalesce to the events which are easier to get to, and I’m 100% sure you all know which ones I’m talking about Anet.
