They should just have an exploration mode for all the LS instances which are 5man for the less casual gamers so people who still wish to solo or team up with a family or a friend can still do the relatively easy content without any stress.
Anet’s heavy reliance on these types of shocks has become so frequent that it doesn’t feel emotionally impactful at all, instead it feels cheap and tacted on. Players already understand the gravity of the situation there was no need to kill a character with promise and amazing room for growth.
I would’ve thought the writers would have realized this after the needless character deaths in the personal story.
I hope someone makes youtube videos of this.
I think it injected a little bit of realism to the situation, any sooner resolution to the discussion and it would have felt abrupt to me.
I always laugh when I see suggestions to take away amenities because they make the game too easy. Everyone with an account should be an adult (by the agreement) and so should be able to make the decision to not use amenities if they want more of a challenge. I see groups and guilds in many MMOs that create their own challenges rather than demand the game be made more difficult for everyone else just because they want more of a challenge.
Indeed and it just further evidence that the people that mostly post in the forums are not indicative of the overrall majority of the playerbase of the game, and frankly I’m thankful for that.
I hope so, the PC feels so lifeless when the other hero npcs are having their banter and you’re left there to just listen like the PC suffers from some sort of social phobia.
I’m a scifi geek more so than a fantasy one so the first thing on my mind when I saw that was “oh a big lazer weapon system!”
Do ninjas jump out when you harvest them?
That would make a interesting harvesting sickle to sell at the Gem store.
Good heavens don’t give Anet anymore ideas. :P
I’ll take a wild guess and say they’re still around because they’re necessary for the first story chapter.
Ha, it’s times like this that I wish this game employed a little phasing.
It does look nice and subdued compared to the rather flashy and downright gaudy weapon skins we normally see. I would like to see this available to players at some point.
The problem isn’t that they’re calling us “boss”, it’s that they’re doing it without much (any?) cause to do so. If they hadn’t simply done it out of nowhere – if there had been something organic that lead to them calling us that – then I’d be okay with it. But out of the blue as it is, it just seems off.
There was, you lead them and the world to victory over Scarlet. You earned their trust and respect through battle and blood last season.
Considering the level of dislike (putting it mildly) the fans have towards Trahearne, I wouldn’t be surprised he is taken out at some point in this season. Whether or not the PC will be the one that takes over the position though…is suspect.
I personally like it and find it appropriate as the PC is the team leader. If you take umbrage to being treated with any honor considering the heroics you’ve done in your storyline then perhaps playing the wrong kind of MMO. As these kinds of MMOs deeply involve and integrate your PC into the narrative and takes into account the superhuman level of heroics you’ve achieved.
It is annoying when you’re trying to spam loot, I would like to suggest a separate button for looting to be implemented in this case.
As a warrior I take umbrage to being called “Aromatic”, pungent perhaps, maybe even going as far as seasoned, but aromatic was just hurtful Anet.
I never saw the point in town clothes in GW2, what a waste.
Give the class a petless spec, pets really are the main problem with the class when you get right down to it.
Side note: Anyone else think that Kasmeer and Marjory are lovers? I say so because of:
Marjory Delaqua: I’ve been thinking about Scarlet.
Kasmeer Meade: She can’t have you.
Marjory Delaqua: She’s behind all these crazy alliances. I’d rest my reputation on…wait. What did you say?
Kasmeer Meade: (laugh) I think you’re right. She has all the landmarks of a blooming psycho hag.Marjory Delaqua: You did your bit, Kas. Go on back to Divinity’s Reach where it’s safer.
Kasmeer Meade: You’re sweet, but I couldn’t leave you here alone.
Marjory Delaqua: I’ll be fine, cupcake. Go on now.
Kasmeer Meade: Mmm, I don’t think so. I would, but to be honest I’m itching to see what’s in that tower. I think I’ll stay.
Marjory Delaqua: Hm. If you insist.(Marjory calls her “cupcake” – though Jory does seem quick on endearing nicknames, she only calls Kasmeer such, as well as “Kas”)
(less so)
Kasmeer Meade: Marjory?
Marjory Delaqua: Yes?
Kasmeer Meade: If we don’t make it out…
Marjory Delaqua: We will. Promise. Then there was how Kasmeer says the final line in:
Kasmeer Meade: The moment they break into the tower, we should head down there.
Marjory Delaqua: What’s your hurry? Let them clear it out a bit first.
Kasmeer Meade: This whole place has mesmer magic woven through it. I don’t want to miss a single thing.
Marjory Delaqua: I see. Curiousity killed the cat, you know?
Kasmeer Meade: Meeeow! And just their overall conversational tone. Kind of makes me wonder if there’s more than just “business partners” and “friends” between them… Which would prove to be an interesting plot development with potential.
I’d ship it.
Everyone! To the Tumblrmobile!
Warriors have been finely tuned and polished to a mirror shine but at the cost of some classes like Rangers. It seems Anet fell in love with one class but forgot there are others that need just as much attention. If anything underperforming classes need a lot of work and buffing to be on par with the Warrior.
I have a better idea, how about instead of a kneejerk reaction like most gamers make when classbalancing is an issue, they buff the underperforming classes instead of nerfing one into the ground like its peers. Walk to the Ranger forum or better yet the Engineers section, now there’s classes that need some love bad.
Because Anet for all their talk about being different decided to follow the well-worn path of the fantasy archer trope. They always have to have some beast companion, well that’s great and all all but it’s always a pain in videogames.
Babysitting an AI is never fun, don’t like escorts? Well here’s a class who’s entire mechanic is based around it. I like how more recent mmos figured it out that AI pet classes can be a pain for some so they always offered specs without one. Going full Marksman/Sniper/Gunner, instead of a forest loving beastmaster.
Ranger was my main class in GW1, I enjoyed it because I didn’t need a pet at all. Now here in GW2 I would’ve been ok with the change to the fundamental direction to rangers, but there was no replacement for it.
There was no where for a marksman/sniper player to go to fulfill that desire. Thieves with Pistols come close with the guntoting, engineers as well to an extent, even warriors, though you’d be just gimping yourself. There’s no real class that can full out that hole that was made when rangers were changed.
I would prefer if Anet would simply try to get more money via paid content like mini expansions than these cash shop items which should be included features in the first place.
For instance, back in early Beta the gathering tools were unlimited use, then someone decided that they could milk people by making it consumable and down the line make it a gemstore item. There’s no way for me to continue with this train of thought without losing civility so I’ll cut myself off here.

If you wanna watch cutscenes run the content with your friends, for pugs, it’s all about speed and no wasted time.
I’ve pretty much given up on Rangers ever being improved from their current state. I’m not saying Anet is incompetent, I just don’t believe they really know what to do with this class. They seem hellbent on keeping the pet which really is the albatross around the neck of the class.
These days I put my Ranger on the shelf and currently play one of the “Holy Trinity” classes so I actually feel like I’m contributing to the party.
Maybe not in the current areas but who’s to say in expansion areas. Right now the areas are not all that big and you can get around pretty quick on foot even without using a waypoint. I don’t see a need for them at this instance, but what ever the future holds right?
I’m not a completionist so the pacing is perfectly fine for me. Say for example, SAB, not a big fan the 8bit retro gaming trend so I didn’t even bother with it. Now imagine without the other content to fill that month and all there was to do for LS was SAB. I would be bored frankly.
The only things I would have left to do was log on once a night and do the temple run and log out. With constantly changing environments and events and things being added, there’s more chance for me to find one that I like to do.
People say that with any hard content, I have guildmates that can run this content in 30 mins, thirty, it all boils down to how well you know it and your team composition and skill level. I personally had a hell of a time with the last boss and called the run when my team were getting tired but these guys already have it on farm.
Look, I’m not a completionist and I don’t give two squats about achivements, so for me I understand on certain mindsets I’m unorthodox for an MMO. But if I can’t get a group of people like friends or guildies to run difficult content, then I simply don’t do it or postpone it.
That’s not the case with plenty of people, and I get that, but when people come here and complain about quitters it just makes me laugh. They put themselves into that situation, they decided to take that gamble and lost.
I have no issues with content being temporary, sometimes I miss out sometimes I don’t, the only people that get bent out of shape about it are completionists.
That’s what you get for pugging, the only thing they’re good for is running Cof 1&2 paths and nothing NOTHING more. Do not do this content unless with friends and/or guilds.
It’s attitudes like that that get you labeled as ‘elitist’ and bring down the community. You should not be forced to join a guild or drag friends into the game to complete content. You should, and can, complete the content with PUGs. Telling anyone otherwise is just wrong.
Now yes, guildies and friends can make things much easier and are oftentimes, though not always, more reliable. But not all that PUG are these terribad players that many love accusing them of being.
No it’s not elitist to tell people that it’s more fun to do things with people you know and not strangers without any sort of social accountability. But hey if you wish to drag your forehead across gravel, more power to you.
I like Scarlet other than the fact that she’s a Sylvari. Seriously stop trying to force these plants down our throats like mom tried to when we wouldn’t eat our vegetables. Human, Charr, and Norn, would have been amazing.
Your attempts to make people like the Sylvari more is very transparent.
Actually let me add that for normal dungeons such as Cof, CoE and Arah, remove the locks. I hate having to waste my guests to find the one server if at all that has one open.
That’s what you get for pugging, the only thing they’re good for is running Cof 1&2 paths and nothing NOTHING more. Do not do this content unless with friends and/or guilds.
I don’t recall much of my initial experience with the F/Upath as I’ve likely ran it only a handful of times early in the release of GW2. While it would be easy for me to dismiss the ones complaining about the removal of the path, I would be overlooking one of their major points. That being it could have just been fixed.
Even if only 1% of the playerbase did it, the existence of it didn’t bother the other 99% like myself who never ran it again and even forgot about its existence. Maybe it was budgetary reasons, I don’t know Anet, you’re not going to tell us anyway and I get that.
The point is at least reconsider replacing with adding instead.
I’m not here to be insulting to anyone (players or staff so don’t take this the wrong way) please Anet get it through your heads, content of this magnitude is best left for guilds and private instances. There was absolutely no reason to buff this world boss or any for that matter in the future.
Players should not have to go to other servers and get on strangers voice chats to get a worldboss down. Such coordination and “prestige” should be left to the guilds that can run it smoothly. All the negative feedback here and the internal stats should indicate a lot of reasons why this experiment was in the end a failure.
I hope you reconsider your position Anet on larger group instances because your 5 man content is bland and uninteresting and your open world raid is littered with issues. Of which I won’t bother to mention as others have more eloquently voiced their issues with it.
I’ve ran it twice for kicks but in the end it’s really not worth doing for me. The rewards are paltry for the time investment and effort involved. It’s more efficient for me to champion farm or run the Temples with my server zerg. In fact the server simply ignores this event already when Temples are up.
Challenging content is fine but the gameplay mechanics as of right now needs to be worked on to be on par with the challenges Anet wishes to put fourth.
Give it a month and guilds and players will learn the encounter and like all encounters in every mmo ever, the fight will just end up like a choreographed dance and people will check out mentally while they go through the motions. It seems hard right now but I assure you even you will be able to do this fight simply through muscle memory in two months time.
If you’re downed and not on a hot spot I’ll try to res as I’m sure plenty of others try as well, I see it all the time. Now if you’re dead, just run back, you won’t get rezzed and don’t expect to be, period.

If I can make one with Rox’s eye style then I’ll roll one, otherwise pass for the time being.
There’s enough gating in other mmos, the reason I play GW2 is because I either need a break from them or I’m outright fed up with it. This is a sanctuary from the mainstream drone gameplay of those other titles.
Thank goodness, in its current sorry state it’s not even worth using.

The Queen is pregnant with a giant eagle. The decorations of the pavilion really should have clued all of us in. After her speech she’ll lay a giant egg, and everyone will watch with horrified looks on their faces.
Jennah: “Rrrrr…. grrrrr…. RRRAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH!!!!! Haaa…. haaaa…. Behold! My son!”
And the pavilion will fill to the brim with the vomit of all those who witnessed such a horror.
I sympathize with you even though I have never had such issues befall upon me, but if it did I would tell those people to go take a hike. (Though I would say it in a much vulgar fashion.) Now on the flip side, this issue really falls into the pet class problem MMOs have. The poor ai pet players have to babysit.
For GW2 a game that is meant to move the series forward it goes back far too many steps. I could list a few problems I have with it but it would throw the thread off topic. Suffice to say, just give Rangers a pet less build or improve its user-friendliness like it was in GW1.
I find it hard to believe either of those xenophobic factions would even form some alliance in the first place.
Meh, as long as he doesn’t end up a Trahearne or Kormir 3.0, whatever, though with Anet’s storytelling track record, I wouldn’t put it past them.
I’ll just say this, I think when it comes to personal story Rift did it right. You’re part of a chosen breed of individuals so you’re not a chosen one, but your character is given respect and spotlight.
With GW games it’s usually like you’re just part of the scenery, watching the story unfold around you and you’re really not a part of it. In some ways I think Anet just underestimates the need to have the player be part of the narrative and actually be one of the main characters and not just one cog in a massive machine. I understand why they go with this style of storytelling but for the lore to become something memorable and have a feeling of personal impact, the player has to be put behind the wheel.
It’s like that on any MMO, GW1 suffered their kind too, they were the ones in the Speedclearing teams or the guys doing HM Zaishen dalies. My advice is to just not bother doing that stuff yet and have some patience to find a guild that’s right for you and only run with a select group of people you know and can trust.
Never run with pugs, your blood-pressure will thank you.

This is not the apology we deserve from ANet? I’ve seen plenty of qqing in forums before, but man-alive this takes the cake in recent memory.
GW1 farming = going on build wiki, copy/pasting a build then googling for the farm video.
It was just as boring.
Exactly, too many people with rose tinted glasses waxing nostalgia.
