The giant, obnoxious "GET MORE GOLD" button

Let me give you a real example of Pay to win.
Because Guild Wars 2 is the furthest thing from pay to win on the market.

It’s a Little 11 year old MMO called Conquer Online.
I played it for about 5 years, and in that time, watched it grow into a complete money hoard, and the company in charge of it could give less than a kitten about their playerbase, as they were catering to people whom would open their wallets.

In this game, your gear has 5 quality levels, Normal, refined, unique, elite, and super. each piece, if you’re lucky enough, or have a large enough wallet, can have 2 gem sockets. You can add bonus stats to your gear in the form of plussing it. I.e Lucky bow +1. Super Saint Armor +5, and so on up to +12. Now, In order to get these bonuses, you need to be extremely lucky in mob hunting to get the quailities or their upgrade item, the Dragon Ball, or buy game currency. There is no official exchange, like there is in Guild Wars, the only way you can get your hands on Conquer Points, is to sell your drops for them, or to fork over $15 for 1,072 points. Which is equivalent to 5 Dragon Balls in their Cash Shop. You can also. for the low price of about $350, get a ‘bulk pack’ of 21,000-ish points, or 125 Dragon Balls.
I’m not going to mention any country names, but if you’ve had the unfortunate experience of playing CO, you’ll know who the bulkers were. They were the level 140 players in full super +12 double socketed, super gemed gears. And with the release of their newest money ploy, the epic weapons, you have thhe otion of questing for it for 6 months, or forking over 56,000 points to complete them immediately.
So for a casual gamer, the only way no to be completely oblitterated by one of these ‘godlike’ players is to quit, or pay out the nose.
They have a couple stat enhancement systems now as well, that you can use your points to max out.
And should you get hacked and report it to them, you’ll first have to have credited at least $350 in CP, for them to take any action at all.

I’m ashamed to admit, but i the time I was playing it, they suckered me in for a little over $5,000 over 3 years. Because I was always falling behind in gear, or stats, or looks and so I bought, and I bought, and then I got hacked and it all went for kittens. I did get to file a hack case, and after near 2 months of me asking weekly, ‘Is my case being handled?’ I got nothing but a bow that wasn’t mine, and a, what would be equivalent to town clothes, called a garment back.

So. Guild wars 2 is not, and never will be in the category of ‘Pay to Win’. Because there is absolutely NOTHING in Guild Wars 2, that can not be obtained by everyone. Some of the players will get it faster, Sure. And some take a little longer. But everyone maxes out in the same place, statistcally. Once you have ascended armor and weapons, the rest is just customizing your look.

I don’t do my key farming for profit.
I never have.
Money I make off it is just a bonus.
I do it when I want to play and have no guild mates around to do other stuff with, or while my wife’s at work so we’re not at different places in the game.
It’s a relaxation to me.
And I find it better now that the 20 minute runs are over, because at least in having to level to 10 to open personal story, I can make a farmer of any race, with any story and be just as fast as I am still rolling a human commoner. Adds a little variety, y’know? Human was my favorite race, but after key farming for a year and a half, I’m glad to be anything but, and still get it done in a fair time.

New leveling system = buy more gems?

There’s nothing in the gem store that will help you level any faster, though.
O_o
I’m not the biggest fan of the new leveling system, and how I have to grind out somewhere between 7 and 10 levels every time I finish part of the story.
Or the extreme hand-holding on a new character.
Or the fact that I can’t consistently rally until level 19, due to the skills being locked.
Or the elite is 10 levels later.
But you know what?
It is what it is.
There’s no changing it now.
So, you might as well get used to it.

Feature pack 9/9: feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AngelDiscarnate.5489

My thoughts are a little mixed.
As a keyfarmer, I’m kitten.
But they didn’t take the key out, so I’m cool.
It might take me a day of playtime to get one, but the point is I can still farm them, to some degree.
And with better loots, too. <3
As a veteran, I feel like the new leveling system holds your hand too much.
I used to get impatient waiting to get skills, but at least I could do the skill challenges, and unlock them, even if I couldn’t equip them yet.
The elite moving 10 levels later annoys me a bit.
Downed state unlocking at 5 is all well and good, but the make or break your rally skills unlock at 16 and 19, so I feel there’s no point in even trying to rally at the moment, because 9 out of 10 times, it won’t work.
The way things are now is going to take some getting used to.
And a little more patience on my part.
But they’re not awful changes.
I adore the trading Post work. It’s clean and functionable.

So for this update, I’ll give A-Net a solid 7/10, and a thumbs up.

Alasia, they’re not focing you down a path, just making it a bit harder to walk your path, with the skill changes. And don’t forget, you can completely ignore, or even disable the tips. I went to a spawning of Shadow Behemoth on a level 6 guardian last night. With my UI telling me to go help rancher Mepi. It didn’t stop me. :]

How quick, do you think it’ll be, to complete queensdale? Where would that get someone? And there’s a small chance of an extra key there too. I can do that map in 30 – 45 minutes, usually.

Kick* What is the meaning of loyalty?

Every time I see people advertising a guild, or I get an invite. I look it over, and then promply ignore it. Because who gives a kitten if 12 of your 300+ members aren’t flying your banner with all 15 characters. :/

Loyalty to me is having a close group of friends, not being a faceless part of a big group that’ll leave you for dead if you get in over your head, or don’t fly their banner for all your game time.

I may not be part of the largest guild in the game, But I know each of my guild mates personally. I’ve met them outside of games, I’ve lived with, gone to school with, and have known them all for at least 10 years. We’re slow on guild upgrades, and can’t do guild missions, bounties, and whatnot. But I can say over guild chat “Oh kitten, this is going to hurt…” And my guildies are right there to help. And I do the same for them. I’ve left missions and and events, and even world bosses to help wen they call.

With the key farming nerf I expect to see significantly higher prices.

oh gosh, what now? Why do ANet always have to do their best to nerf any possible source of in game income?

It’s not a nerf in the tradtional sense. More of a casulty of a new system. A-net has said that they are in no way against key farming, nor were there measures in the 2 years so far to try and nerf or kill it.
It’s simply being reworked because of the level up rewards being reworked. Not because the farm it’s self needs a nerf.

I don’t get the joke in the image. Is it because of the narrow minded “must heal entire party” mentality or that repeatedly casting Heal Party will eat up your energy faster than an elementalist?

I roll an illusion/clone heavy greatsword mesmer in ‘Zerker armor with superior runes of Mercy.
I carry my race-specific elite of the hounds of Balthazar, Mirror images, as well as burst condition removal with Null field, and Feedback for a little protection.
In PvE I’m holy crap awesome. In WvW, I can take CP’s myself, and camps with little to no backup as long as I have my elite available, but can’t do much by myself against other players. especially when I’m outnumbered. I die quickly in a zerg, but cause holy hell while I’m up.

I don’t reccommend this if you’re not comfortable with the class, or dislike long walks past stonemist to rejoin your group.

My alt is a pistol/dagger thief in Valkyrie armor with superior runes of the pack. I survive a little more and with Shadow refuge and the traits picked, if I’m outmatched, I can always stealth and run.
I use Skale venom, Shadow refuge, signet of shadows, and thieves guild. Again CP’s and camps no problem. People tend to wear my initiave down after a couple minutes, and I have the bad luck of usually running into caster with ground target skills when I refuge to run. But overall, I do tend to be a lot more annoying and survivable than my mes.

id love if in the end of the 2nd LS we will have a dungeon with story mode to kill mordremoth and 3-4 explorable paths, would be so sweet

I, on the other hand, would not.
>__o
I’m not against dungeons, or challenging content, or anything of the like.
But I don’t have many friends in the game, so it’s pretty well my wife and I doing it together with no help. And as we’ve found at the end of the PS after 3 weeks of asking over map chat daily for help, and trying it with just the 2 of us, we’re not good enough for dungeons by ourselves, and most of the people we’ve encountered do not accept ‘newbs’ into their groups or are too busy farming the area to death to help. :[

I know it’s not always like that. For the first week or two when everyones on it, finding help would be a breeze. But I actually liketo take in and fully experience what I’m doing, instead of blitzing right to the end, so the initial ‘gotta get it done’ help gets rarer and rarer.

I wouldn’t say put an end to it.
Nor do I like the rumored delays to it.
I am one of those hated, mindless farmers.
You know why I do it?
To pass my time while my wife’s at work.
Because I’m absolutely awful at PvP.
And most of the WvW commanders that are on when I am find me good nothing more than a distraction, as I screwed up my ability points and I’m no good at any one particular thing except repairing.
It’s a good mindless fast farm, that I can enjoy doing, and also not lose several hours to.
Sure, I could hop on a train in Kessex, Frostgorge, or Cursed Shore, but that leads to me going “One more kill, one more kill, Maybe this champ will drop something worth the last 2 hours of my time.” While my housework sits undone.
With key farming, alright. 20 – 25 minutes and back to cleaning for an hour. Then another 20 – 25 minutes and back to cleaning.
Also, I love when I open my chests and get dyes.
Sure I secretly hope for a permanent contract. And I love when I complete a ticket. But I love opening unidentified dyes, and dye packs. It’s more fun and rewarding than tossing weapons in the forge.

Except not coat linings, itwas glove linings.
And it wasn’t 1,500, it was only 80.

I agree with Artemis, I’d like to see an alliance system come to Guild Wars 2.
It was one of the better community creators from Guild Wars.
And it gives smaller guilds, like mine, a chance at actually doing something in the world.

Discussion about New Content

I’m not against new stuff.
I mean I’m happy with the game as is, but skin hunting gets dull.
Sure if a new dungeon came out I’d be like… “Cool, too bad I can’t do it.”
Same with any “End game content” Reminiscent of Urgoz, The Deep, Underworld Fissure, and Domain of Anguish from GW1. I barely finished Sorrow’s Embrace. I’m not social enough or belong to a big enough guild to enjoy traditional End Game. So living story is cool with me. It’s something my wife and I can do together, that doesn’t require us to follow some screaming 12-year old across a map or listen to a few elitest players at the higher world bosses insult people.

Yeah, GvE would be nice, but my guild is only 5 people, and only 2 are really active. So we have difficulty with the guild content that is already there.

Personally, I’d like to see a new race. That would bring at least 3 new maps to explore, unless it’s placed to share a 15 – 25 map with another race. I like mapping. All of my 13 characters from GW1 are Legendary Cartographers. Because it can be done with fewer people.

Sword skin idea:
Shuang gou
old chinese weapons. Cool sword skin in my opinion.

A game I played a long time ago had weapons like that.
They were called hooks, and aside from looking cool, no one ever used them because the developers decided to make them inferior to the other martial weapons.
I’d like to see a few more cool skins.

With the death of key farming immanent, I’d say to compensate, key prices should be reduced to 100 gems per key, maybe even a little lower than that, OR~! make keys listable on the trading post.

Claim tickets. For a reasonable price.
More light armor skins from GW1. Or even fresh ones not from GW1.

New types of Black Lion Chests. Y’know… Black Lion Armor Chest, Accessory chest, Weapon chest. Contains 1 masterwork, and 2 random pieces of masterwork to exotic, with a rare chance at Ascended pieces?

Straight up unidentified dyes, not packs of certain colors, or swatches, but acutal, Unidentified Dyes. They don’t drop anymore, opportunity for profit. Maybe have them in packs like with the keys? 1/5/10? ‘Cause ain’t no one dumb enough to spend 5 days of hard work on dailys on a single one. xD

I’d say they’re fine as personal. You can’t share other account bound items, no? Why should you be able to share a summon off an account bound item?

As a side note, your server ought to be a different color most weeks, so make sure you’re looking at the right color when you’re checking for who owns what.

My server’s been blue for 11 weeks now. >__o

But yeah, I feel your pain on the can’t finish the map. I’m missing the green keep in EBG.
I guess best advice is stay vigiliant.
When is the most active time on your server? Because I can almost guarantee that the first thing your server’s zerg is going to do at the start of the active time is flip any and everything they can in EBG before travelling anywhere else. ‘Least that’s how SoS/FA/Mag matchups been rolling for the last 4 or 5 months. x__x

Gathering Tools - All versus Orichalcum?

By technical definition, T-7 is the Ascended mats, or so people have been calling them. And you don’t need gathering tools for them, So I’d imagine gather all and same as oricalcum would remain the best.

If they’re your most played characters, wouldn’t they be closest to the left anyway? O_o¿

Unless you do a lot of bouncing from alt to alt, they should be right where you need them to be? o_O¿

if you have several mules you would be bouncing from alt to alt

Ah. I guess I don’t have that burden as I only have 6 slots. xD

Is anyone happy anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AngelDiscarnate.5489

I’m still happy.
I’m not the biggest fan of some of the features, and the lack of love for people that have already done their leveling, but I only have 2 level 80 characters, so I’m not totally destroyed about it. I look forward to this weeks previews of the crafting and trading systems.

But overall, like it’s been said. Lots of displeased people troll the forums because most people who are happy, are too busy playing.

The only thing they could do about the maps without spreading some of the less populated worlds too thin, is to make the 3 border maps different from one another.

Would that be good enough?
Because adding more than the 4, technically 5, maps that they have and that’s a hell of a lot of ground to cover and defend for some worlds.

BLK farming even worth it now?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: AngelDiscarnate.5489

AngelDiscarnate.5489

It is worth it, for the most part.

I’ve been an avid key farmer for the better portion of a year now.
Yeah there’s a lot of useless crap, but there’s occasionally a great drop that makes you go ‘I knew there was a reason I was doing this.’

The un-official official average scrap drop rate is 25 – 30 chests for 10.
Personally, I’ve gotten 10 scraps in as few as 15 chests, and as much as 82, other times.

But every time I get disheartened about my drops, something comes along that brightens my day. Like today, I got a mini Jory, 2 Dye packs and 4 unidentified dyes.

I haven’t gotten any permanent contracts, yet, and with the feature pack threatening key farming’s death, I may never get one. But it’s a great way to pass the time when no one’s around to play with.
