I personally don’t see a problem with AI in PvP as that’s a part of the class, and to reject AI would be rejecting a certain class entirely. My personal qualm with AI in PvP is that as an Ele I can get downed, mist form as far away as possible, and while the mesmer/ranger/necro is engaged in a team fight, their AI/pet will hunt me down, and kill me in downed state after I mist formed away.

The aggro system for AI/Pets needs to be looked at. A pet shouldn’t retarget an old target without the ranger/mesmer directing it to do so. It’s like the AI has a mind of its own, and definitely should NOT automatically kill people in the downed state without the master of the AI commanding it. Passive play is not fun or engaging.

Work. Work. Work. Work. Work. China. Work. Work. Work.

No time to discuss, but I still read near every thread.

We know u are very busy for the China Release but can u give us an ETA (not soon™ pls ) for the next patch and for the next CDI/news for Spvp (or in general)?

1 weeks, 2 weeks, 1 month, 1 year?

And yes, where is the new “Allie” guy/girl?

The next patch? We just had a feature patch about a month ago. Dealing with the China merger is taking a ton of time, I’m sure. Even if Anet gave you a date, it’d probably be all speculation at this point, which probably isn’t what they want, as if they stated a date, people would hold them accountable for that date, and if the date rolls around without follow through of their speculation, the community would wield their torches and pitch forks with outcries that this game lacks any new content, and we should follow Moses in exodus to a new game entirely….

So yeah….Be patient….And stuff.

The feature patch was nothing more than taking what we already had and repackaging it. Outside of a few runes/sigils that changed anything, the feature pack was more punishing to veteran pvpers than it was rewarding.

Your point is totally valid, and I’m sure there will be many more changes after the China merger is done and they have a lot more money to work with.

How does ANet handle feedback?

The new amount of “Red posts” is nice.
The problem with those is, that there are so many thread already where you guys write stuff like “thanks for your feedback, we appreciate it” etc. but the fact that none of those things get change, it almosts feels like the gentle version of “Screw you, guys”.

Or they’re just collecting all the data, and will make an intelligent decision based on an aggregate of values. I think this community really needs to understand that although I can make a complaint about x/y/z mechanic of one class, and just because I feel that way, and I might even have other people post in such a thread that feel similarly, doesn’t mean that what I want would be good for the rest of the player base.

We also have to consider the entirety of work that the Anet team does in regards to developing the Living Story, balancing, WvW tournies, EU/NA tournies, as well as merging with China. That’s a lot of work for any team, and I’m sure there is more work that I didn’t list that they’re working on as well. With more money they’ll be getting from China, they’ll probably be able to hire more people to work on specific areas of the game, churning out more content and balance that we would all like.

I still feel that there should be a virtual reality Asuran library for us to relive old Living World content through phasing and the magic of VR! It would also let the content devs worked so kitten have a permanent placement in the game for players to replay, as well as new players to get up to speed. With new players, and retaining new players, the game will have more growth, and more money at their disposal. My two cents.

I really feel that there should be somewhat of a “Never Ending Story” mechanic to the Living Story. In some Asuran library, you can pick up a mechanical book that ports you into a VR room where you can relive the story, get some loot, etc, all for the purpose of replay value. It wouldn’t effect ANet’s ability to tell a progressing story that changed the landscape, and it would definitely help people have a better understanding of what’s going on if they weren’t present for it.

I feel I shouldn’t have to watch a video of someone else playing, or simply read a wiki about it. Phasing can allow us to revisit the events through the premise of it being all virtual reality thanks to the Asura.

People seem to complain a lot about how the Living Story is temporary, and this idea would compensate for it’s temporary presence. I hope someone at ANet sees this. A virtual reality Asuran library would make this game even better than it already is.

All the story content from Living Story has been removed. The idea has been that when one step of the story has had its time, it’s removed and people then move onto the next one. As such you can only experience Living Story though reading it, or watching a video of someone else playing it.

I like that in theory, but I really feel that there should be somewhat of a “Never Ending Story” mechanic to it. Hi!

I played in the beta of this game, and when it first came out for a while, but stopped. The feature pack brought me back, which I love (except for transmute charges and having to use irl money for them….), and it seems I completely missed out on the living story’s season 1.

Is there a way to replay the events of Season 1, or at least, watch a conclusion video that tells me about what happened? I feel so out of the loop and it’d immerse me in this game if I knew the story.

How Is Attunement Swapping Supposed To Work?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Anomaly.7612

Anomaly.7612

Elementalist is kinda screwed up in PvE without Fresh Air. The reason for this is that the design of PvE emphasizes auto-attacking everything to death for sustained damage. For the Ele, this means you generally just want to camp Lightning Whip on MH Dagger the whole time. At the same time, all your utility and burst is in the other attunements, but it’s difficult to dance around attunements if you don’t have Fresh Air.

Overall, no, it’s not just you. Eles have some of the hardest time leveling and really do rely on trait progression to become a full class.

If Ele is hard to level, then a Thief is legendary difficulty mode. Seriously, I died so much while leveling my Thief. I find Ele to be pretty fun and easy, but yet again, I know all the combo fields and burst rotations for D/D having played it in PvP long before caring to level it in PvE/WvW.

Once you get used to attunement swapping with the Ele, you’ll really like the class. It will feel second nature to swap to another attunement to keep a combo going or use a CD from another attunement. So much so, you’ll start to miss it when playing another class. I’ve found that swapping to just a second weapon set is now really boring, haha. Why have two sets when you can have 4?!

Cleave cleave cleave. Focus on the player, but make sure you’re positioning yourself in a way that you can hit everything with Blazing Speed, Drake’s Breath, Fire Grab, etc. It’s all about positioning. When the mesmer goes stealth, Earth 5 can take care of all of the clones.

0/2/0/6/6 is the ‘best’ build. It includes EA, yes.

Although I have seen some top-level eles run 0/4/0/6/4 for dueling (the lightning strike helps in 1v1)

Do people in tournies really take Zephyr’s Boon over Earth’s Embrace? I personally prefer the 2 in Earth instead of 2 in air. It’s saved me a lot as I like to use the Armor of Earth Cantrip after Earth’s Embrace runs out and I still need some heavy protection.

Yeah you’d be lucky if you hit Fire Grab at all but what grinds my gears is how I’m super close to the enemy and Magnetic Grasp misses… How… What… Why… just f#ck it -.-

I’ve never played a game where the abilities miss as much as some of the GW2 abilities. Ele has quite a few that are like that, but other classes do as well. They really need to recode pathing, projectiles, speed of them, and the qualifications required for them to hit. If that proves to be too difficult, then it’d be nice to have the CD cut in half if it magically misses, much like when you’re about to cast an ability but dodge roll to cancel it.

Your guys’ hatred for Thieves is a bit overblown.

I don’t particularly hate thieves, but which class likes to pick off eles as much as they do?

I just hate the initiative system, allowing them to use the same skill multiple times. It’s as if Thief meta revolves around finding a weapon set with one skill that is great at griefing in some fashion. Take S/D perma evade for example. They just roll around, steal boons and regeneration, all the while everything I throw at them is evaded. Thanks to initiative, none of their attacks go on CD so as long as they have the initiative, they can just keep evading, and if they run out of initiative, they can just go invis and wait til they have it all back.

It just seems like an abusive system where as every other profession has a CD on their attacks. Take Ele for example. We can’t keep fire grabbing once our opponent hits 50% to just burn them down. I’m lucky if fire grab even hits. It seems to magically miss a lot.

I think the initiative system would be good if all professions had some kind of secondary resource to manage instead of everything being CD based. Having everything on a CD is kind of shallow gameplay. I understand why utilities have CD’s, but our weapon skills shouldn’t. For a profession that relies on combos, it’s hard to keep up a D/D rotation when I can cycle through attunements and try to combo, but RTL, Updraft and Earthquake have far too long of a CD as well as fire #4 and Fire Grab.

TLDR; I’m curious to see what this game could be like if weapon skills didn’t have CD’s, and we had a secondary resource to manage, as well as weapon swapping not having a CD, but the benefits we get from weapon swapping/attunement dancing, having internal CD’s. I.e. Receive a boon based on your attunement once every 7 seconds per attunement.

I just have problems with the skill magically becoming obstructing and missing all the time.

I agree. I’d like to see it hit more reliably but that’s about it.

I was playing last night and I noticed that elevation has a lot to do with it. I’m really wondering what the coded qualifications are for it to hit the target. They should use the same pathing as RTL. My target can be up a flight of stairs, and RTL will shoot me up those stairs and right onto my target. I don’t understand why Magnetic Leap is a projectile. I feel it should work more like RTL where it’s just a leap, and not a projectile that needs a second button press to leap.

In my opinion, it should just be a leap that also immobilizes people upon leaping. I’ve literally had people outrun the projectile.

Windbourne Dagger + super speed?

I don’t know man. I like the idea, but Ele’s have plenty of ways to close in gaps.

Because we’re talking about Windborn Dagger, I’m going to assume we’re talking about D/D builds.

Yeah, we can close gaps Blazing Speed, which doesn’t cover much distance, or we can use RTL, which has a 40 second CD, or we can try our luck with Magnetic Leap, which rarely ever hits if there’s a small variation in elevation between you and the target.

In my opinion, our gap closers are pretty lame and take way too long to come off CD, or just don’t hit unless you’re right next to your target, and what’s the point in a gap closer when you have to use it without a gap to close?

Don’t even get me started on the gap closers of other classes. Thieves can just 22232222 at you until they’re right on top of you. Good luck shaking that off.

Personally, I really like Windborn as it is now. The perma speed is nice, but it’d be nicer if it also gave some speed while rolling as well as the perma speed. I don’t think that’s too tall of an order.

Elementalists get 10 more skills, more combo fields/blasts, and thus far more options.

How about we compare Ele to Thief? Untreated Steal is just a gap closer with an RNG skill that might be useful.

Warrior just gets an extra skill per weapon.

Engineer gets 4 extra skills based on Utilities.

But hey, the forums are here, so I guess why not ask Anet to break a class?

Thief has it pretty rough. As a Thief, you pretty much have to trait into steal to make it worth anything aside from a gap closer.

Thats just another bogus part about the game though, thief having to trait the heck out of steal just to see it be effective. Its just ridiculous that they have to spend so many trait points just to make it effective. Steal should steal boons passively with out a trait… its called STEAL. It should also deal some damage without the trait mug AND be able to crit.

I agree. I play a Thief as well, and having to go 6 into Trickery and 2 into Deadly Arts for Mug (it’s a pretty kitten vital trait), doesn’t leave much room for other traits. I thought builds in this game were going to be more diverse and friendly for experimentation across all the professions, but Ele and Thief are pretty pigeon-holed
as far as trait options. Whenever I play a Thief build that isn’t Trickery+Mug, I really feel the lack in damage, boon stealing, and self healing.

I think it’d be cool if the boons attributed to the elements were baked in. I understand that it’s powerful, but the bigger point to take into consideration is that it would diversify build options, and that’s something this game really needs. When I’m leveling my Ele (now 20! Just a babe), I can really feel the lack of boon stacking from attunement dancing.

I just wish the game had its controls set as character bound rather than account bound, such a poor decision.

YES YES YES YES YES. SO MUCH THIS.

I stopped caring to rebind everything when I swapped back to my Ele who I’ve been maining. I used to have my mouse button 3, (the one on the side of the left click as I have the classic naga motlen. I hate the new models with the two extra buttons below the scroll wheel. Bad move, Razer).

We should all put a suggestion into the devs to give the option to make binds character specific or account wide. It’d just make more sense with the widely differing play styles of each profession.

It’s a variant of it that I really enjoy as I really like Windborn dagger instead of vigor, even though I could be more defensive with vigor, I REALLY feel so much slower without windborn, and it makes running to points, or kiting when I’m dying and forced into water really difficult without it. To make up for the loss in vigor I put more those 2 points in Earth for the shield, and go zerkers because I just can’t kill anyone fast enough with Celestials. I like Celestials when I want to support people more, but if I want to actually kill anyone, I need zerkers, especially with those two points in Earth.

I also don’t have to worry as much about might stacking with a zerkers as the damage is baked in, but I still stack might with combos and get might naturally with strength runes. I do miss getting might from cantrips when I put points into fire, though.

I just bought the razor naga ( http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-naga )
so i have easy access to keys 1-12 and m1-m5. my question is, can i play the game with only this mouse? i have 1-10 as skills, 11 and fire, 12 as water, m4 as air ( key right below the scroll ) , m5 as earth ( key right below m4 ) right mouse button and left mouse button stay the same, but when pressed together act as moving forward. I also have m3 (the scroll button) to use as jump, dodge, or f, but i can only map one to the key. This is where the problem comes in. with ANY other class i could make it work (although engineer might have a similar, but not as difficult problem), but i can only use 1 of those 3 on my mouse, unless i get rid of a different button ( autoattack might give me one more option)
Can I play efficiently with this setup, or is there a different setup you’d recommend?

also on a slightly related topic, anybody know of a good Elementalist guide?

I have a naga as well. Been using mine for three years. Yes, you can use it to play an elementalist, and you won’t have to bind any attacks to your keyboard. My attunements are alt-1-4. Super easy to cycle through all your attacks. I’ve found myself trying to press abilities before the previous one has gone all the way off, haha.

If WoW is so much better then why don’t you play that game instead?

God, I love this argument so much. It’s like going to a restaurant that serves a similar dish as another, except this restaurant serves it cold when they could easily heat it up like it’s supposed to be, then when you ask them to heat it up, they tell you to leave.

Your rebuttle isn’t adding to a constructive discussion at all. They were merely comparing and contrasting a mechanic. That doesn’t mean they don’t like everything else about the game, which is keeping them playing. Your rebuttal isn’t doing anything except being a cop out for discussing an issue people are having. We’re here to discuss and it’d be nice to

Just heat up the food. We don’t need to go somewhere else. If we wanted to, we wouldn’t be here. We just like warm food.

In response to saying WoW has a better stealth mechanic, yeah that’s true. It’s also not as spammable as it is in GW2. Rogues can’t pop in and out nearly as easily. I feel the combo’s Thieves can do BP/HS leap make them rely too much on stealth which in turn makes ANet design them to have to rely too much on it, resulting in them being squishier and spammier. If they were able to have more active defensives that weren’t just evading and disappearing into stealth, they could have more sustainability in a fight and not have to spam abilities quickly and run away when someone looks at them wrongly.

I like the Thief class, I really do. I don’t want it nerfed, I just want it reworked so it’s more fun to play as and against.

Far, far too many gank specs

It’s almost as though the devs only play Spvp, and complaints about WvW class balance is completely ignored.

Is this a new buzzword? Gank Specs? What is a gank spec? My first thought is a thief, for the other classes a gank spec would be quick burst damage?

Retal was mostly nerfed because of WvW anyway, confusion was nerfed in WvW, thieves get to keep 3 second reveal instead of 4, there are many different things but people forget.

I’m assuming they’re most likely the “hit and run” speccs used in WvW as roamers, so yes, Thieves are counted in the lot.

Yeah, the 1 time out of 10 that it actually hits someone…They really need to revisit travel speed. It seems like any small bump in the road or difference in elevation between you and the target means that it won’t hit. Plus it gets evaded way too easily even when the enemy doesn’t seem to be dodging. =\

why is ele so squishy?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Anomaly.7612

Anomaly.7612

We are forced nudged towards the arcana and water line for survivability. Which means we are bound to be squishy. Ele defense is all about damage mitigation and healing ability. You can heal your full health pool in one swap to water combined with a dodge roll (evasive arcana) and cleansing wave. You get in, do your damage, get out and stack might. And go back in. Rinse and repeat. Healing can be done on the fly and accomplished faster than any other class in the game. We don’t need to be tough. We need to be smart. Not to mention we have absolutely wonderful kiting ability. We can run directly away from chasing opponents while using PbAoe skills that cripple chill and Immobilize. Now, this is very reliant on fast fingers and knowing how to attunement dance properly. All in all we have some of the best dmg and survivability of any class. If your keeping protection, regen and signet of restoration up, as well as being aggressive. You should have no problems staying alive. Practice practice practice.

I definitely feel you on this one. I’ve played Thief, Necro, warrior, and Ele in Spvp/Tpvp. I have to say that by FAR, I like my Ele the most and don’t die nearly as much. I have a Razer Naga mouse so attunement swapping for me comes naturally. I use combos as I should be, dodge roll as much as I can. I have more stun breaks with cantrips than I do on any of the other profs I listed, and I can kite or completely GTFO of a fight if need be to heal up, then just jump back in. I just wish our highly necessary skills like RTL, Updraft, Earthquake, and fire grab had lower CD’s. I feel the 40-45 second CD’s on these are pretty unjustified when other classes have some heavy damage and CC abilities on much shorter CD’s.

EDIT: When comparing a D/D Ele to a Hambow warrior, a warrior can Backbreaker (30 sec’s) for a two second knockdown, follow that with a Staggering Blow knockback (20 sec CD), then swap to their blow and Pin Down for a 3 second immobilize (25 sec CD), and by this time, they probably have full adrenaline, swap back to hammer, Earthshaker for a 3 second stun (10 sec CD), and by this time, their other hammer CC abilities are more than likely off CD and they can just rotate through them again.

Ele CC compared to warrior has far too long of a CD while they are able to passively heal themselves with their OP healing signet. Of course, this is a compare and contrast of Ele next to Warrior, who has been the flavor of the game since release.

As a thief stealth player and a d/d elementalist i have to say this is so true
when running the perma prot spec u can barely be harmed, there are too many random aoe attacks going on that hurt the thief alot. I have had so much trouble killing d/d eles on my thief in wvw duels but the other way around, it was easy.

What is this perma prot spec? It sounds delightful.

For perma protection or nearly perma protection simply take 2 points in earth for protection on auras and take elemental attunement. This is using D/D btw and basically make sure that fire skill 4 is followed by earth skill 3 for the leap finisher. (every 15 seconds this is possible, and this is the reason i say nearly as failing this you miss out, this tactic will give you 20+ stacks of might quite easily though combined with other blast finiher etc) use armour of earth to top yourself up :p

so that’s what, 4 seconds of protection every 15 seconds and you have to have a target and a set cycle to go through. and armor of earth 7 seconds of protection every 60ish seconds. two other auras also on high cooldowns also 4 seconds of protection. So that’s about a 60% up time of protection. Nowhere near permanent. Perma stealth however is quite possible for the thief is it not?

And do elementalists have a 13k damage dealer with no cooldown? I don’t think so.

DD ele goes completely bunker spec, thief goes full berserk and now we are finnaly somewhat of a nuisance for them.

Ye i realise what you are saying with the fire aura however i did say nearly perma protection and besides you are forgetting elemental attunement. If you go and test this you will be able to get a 90% up time on protection if protection is the key boon you are going for. ( thats with me taking 6 points in arcana) but also before any other boon duration buffs.

He asked for it and i gave it to him.

Hey I went and tried to get permanent protection in the heart of the mists with a new build I’m working on. Got it to work quite easily actually then when I went to the mists to try it out I got killed by thieves 8 times in a row and I didn’t even phase them…

For a quick look, the build is 4/0/2/2/6, battle sigil, doom sigil, strength runes, and celestial amulet.

I’ve been using your build for a while now, and I really like it. Have you tried using a zerker amulet instead of celestials? I’m not home right now, or I’d try it. I like the Celestials build, but I feel I don’t do enough damage. There’s a lot of sustain, though. If I went zerkers, would it be better to go 0/0/2/6/6? I love how cantrips grant might, so it’d be sad to lose it, but with zerkers and 0.0.2.6.6 the damage would still be there thanks to zerkers with more condi removal and healing.

Why the Hate for Glass Staff Eles (spvp)?

I have been playing SPVP non stop since the last patch and I’d say ive been loving it ever since. Ive tried out different builds and classes (have all been doing pretty good on my necro and warrior but what really shines for me is the pure DPS ele. Ive been maining ele since the beginning and been using it extensively in PvE, PvP and WvW.

Out of all the classes ive played, glass spec staff eles had created the most amount of rage in both solo and team queue. My guild/friends have taken out full out dragon/pheonix groups with this guy and winning/turning team fights but the hate it generates for me is even more than when im playing mm or terrormancer builds XD. They’ve called it a noob no skill build, this is not WvW call outs and calling us flat out cowards when we refusing to 1v1 thieves or other classes (which is a really bad idea to begin with when playing glass staff eles) while their faces are flat on the ground.

I just want to have a shout out to my fellow staff eles in spvp. I seriously feel eles are on a good spot now in spvp both d/d and staff variants. Your more fragile than a wet tissue paper and a freakin thief magnet, but hell with the right positioning/team play you can be a much wipe them all accross the board.

I just cant seem to know where this hate is coming from? Even more than using the FOTM cheese builds XD

What build is this? I just started Ele and have been loving D/D variants. I’d love to try this staff build. Can you post a build link?

I'm ruined.

there r mainly 2, the one i use is http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQFAmAVPLZGgAQCHIyAxly0p0bA-TZQaAAQZAA

and the other one : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQFAWgVPFQAIkSGOQkBjmJqUp3A-TZQaAAQZAA

empty slots r choosable

about the heal, if i dont get condi favored proffessions as enemy i take arcan heal, if not i take ether renewal

The first build looks interesting. Is it not too squishy, though? Especially with Zerkers. Also, would I not be swapping attunements as much?

I know that the build you are using is actually the fotm in ele forums, but if you try to switch some points and try something like this 2-0-2-4-6 or 2-0-0-6-6 you’ll see that is better, and you get that little defense boost that could actually give you the chance to try a zerk amulet and really see big numbers!
By the way, ele is a kittening awesome class, it can bunker, hybrid, roaming or (as i’m doin) rock a staff and a zerk amulet and achieve the most hated build in the whole pvp community right now, and every weapon combination is viable.
Have good fun with the class ^^

I’ve spectated some good Ele’s that ripped me apart when playing on my Thief, and one was 2/0/0/6/6. It was a sick build that pretty much couldn’t be killed, and with might stacking, still put out awesome damage, but I think they were using a Celestial Amulet. I can’t even fathom how awesome that build would be with zerkers instead. I’ll have to give it a try! Thanks for the info.

What’s the staff/zerkers build that people hate playing against? I’m curious to try it now.

So your saying. I’m bad at thief, lets try ele!? Good luck

Haha, nah. I can melt face on a Thief, but also on an Ele. I just really prefer the Ele gameplay style so much more. The APM is higher, as well as makes me think faster. Thief is fun, but I don’t feel I contribute enough to my team. As an Ele, I give out boons to my team, and can cure condi’s all while dealing damage. I can deny stomps easier on an Ele than a Thief with updraft and Earth #4, then helping rez my teammate. On a Thief, I’d have to trait specifically to stealth upon rezzing, or use Last Refuge to stealth rez, which is nice, but it takes too many specific traits and utilities just to help out my team in ways the Ele does with much more grace.

As a Thief, the playstyle is very hit and run. I stand on the edges of combat with my bow, pecking at people until someone is at 50%, then I jump into the fray and do some back stabs. If I get focused or damaged, I have to stealth and run. That’s not helping my team very much.

As a D/D or D/F Ele, I jump into the fray right away, dealing as much damage as I can, getting boons onto myself and my team, cleansing, healing, and CC’ing. If I get focused, I can go into Earth and Water, peel my enemies and heal myself up while clearing condi’s from myself and my mates. It’s a much more teammate friendly profession than a Thief who has to quickly kill someone or GTFO while not providing much group utility.

In MMO’s, I’ve always liked the classes/profs that are a jack of all trades and can assist groups as well as deal some great damage. Thief isn’t that. Thief is hardly anything anymore. It used to be the damage dealer, not it deals some good damage, but not enough to have that title. Thief is in kind of a weird place right now. Team role limbo one might say. Glass builds are too glassy for the little bit of extra damage it deals. Tanky builds are too tanky to deal any damage while still falling over to condi’s while having virtually no condi removal unless traited.

Basically, Ele is just an all around much better profession that I’ve seen much more personal success with. Either way….DRY BONES….So cool.d

Look what I found in thief forum

As a Thief and an D/D/ or D/F Ele, one of the counters that I’ve found is a S/D Thief who just steals all of my boons. I swap to water, steals my regeneration, I swap to earth, steals my protection, etc. It’s very much a battle of attrition, but if they’re 2/0/0/6/6, they can just stand their ground and evade everything.

Condi isn’t hard to counter if you’re D/F and just use Earth attunement #4 to clear all your condi’s. Put some bleeds on them, and they have to do everything they can to drop them. If they’re not using the heal Hide In Shadows, they have hardly any condi removal unless they trait for it.

There’s no reason a D/D Ele should lose to a Thief unless they just strip all of our really important boons.

So Ele’s. You done it. I’m shelving my Thief for an Ele. It all started when I first began playing this game. When I feasted my eyes on the dry bones set, I was in love. Ele’s had it rough at the start, and so did I.

Well, when leveling my thief, I happened upon the Dry Bones set when I was completing the Gendarren Fields map. I took the opportunity to get the celestials build 4/0/2/2/6 build on here, picked up my daggers, donned my Dry Bones, and now I’m slaying like I’ve always wanted on my Thief, but I hated having to stealth and run, and stealth and backstab just to get some damage out, while not being able to heal myself when kitten went sour. Well, Ele plays just like I’ve always wanted. I’m hooked.

If there are any tips, let me know. I’m loving all the combo fields for stacking might. It’s like a mini game to stack to 25. Also, FIRE GRAB. Such a satisfying feeling when I get that off. I love lightning flashing and fire grabbing back to back. So much damage!

Seeya in game.

I’d say Mesmers are the hardest to level.

For real? I found mine really easy. I was level 80 in two days.

Then again maybe I was just too “mesmerised” by all the fabulous purple butterflies. ^-^

How did you level to 80 in two days?!

Really liking this build, but I’m having a hard time with the combos and might stacking. Any tips on combos? Been going Fire: Fire field>Water: blast for might>Air:Get up my shields>Fire: Fire Field> Earth: Blast and condi clear.

Based on his gameplay video you don’t even need to worry about blasting fire fields for might stacking. You can easily obtain up to 25 might by activating your cantrips and swaping attunement.

Well, would it not stack them faster if you’re doing fire fields and swapping at the same time per usual?

Hey Ele’s!

I was looking for a solid D/D build that had some good survivability and damage with might stacking. I’m new to the profession so I’d love some help in creating a solid build.

Thanks!

ohh, I was actually talking to aik hehe, im S H A D O W F A L L, Poof Goes Ur Health, and Elsa The Snow Queen is my ele (it has accents in the name), remember? I was messing around with my build between every duel? Remember the LoSing behind elementals and rock dogs, svanir runes, etc. etc. :P

but then I respec’d and beat u so hard that u wanted me to join ur guild and transfer to SoS with u (jk), but I did transfer to SoS for my other guilds if u remember…

if it helps, u ran away because I was respeccing too much… xD I got bored so I kept trying new things. this was over spring break, I haven’t been on in like a week and a half cuz I’ve had a lot of exams so… yeah

Elsa?! Do you own the guild, Wanna Build A Snowman?

Stealth res and interrupting stompers are on the top reasons I find. The most used builds utilize Trickery whether it’s S/P or D/P, as the traited Steal can bypass Stability by ripping the boon off first.

Nice! I’ll have to use that trick when people are trying to stomp.

I want to capitalize on what a Thief does that other classes don’t do as well so I can benefit a group more and highlight my strengths as a Thief.

I’m curious as far as design goes, what we can do to improve on, and create a niche for thief, so I can understand my role more, but what can a Thief do in PvP that other professions can’t? What are some good reasons that I should be brought to a group over X profession?

Thanks!

It happens to me all the time when I use shortbow 3, and I’m very aware of how many times I press it. I tested it out one day, and it definitely went off twice when I only pressed once. Seems to be a bug, sadly.

I’ve tried playing that build before, and I just get melted by nothing. I could be playing it totally wrong. I’ve been running the balanced build I saw on here: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAoaVlsMpxpdPx0J8PNBPBtdBmdA4dDZovbA-TZBFwACOCAFOFAl2foaZAAPAAA

It works pretty well with might stacking with a SB from afar, then when I see someone I pick off that’s less than 50% HP, I just swap to D/P, use my signets and venom, and go in for a quick kill, then GTFO as fast as I can to repeat the process.

You need to get used to the gameplay of “getting melted by nothing,” and play around it. The 2/6/0/0/6 build has been consistent in providing results even at the highest levels of play. Your linked “balanced build,” really hasn’t.

Again, play a build you KNOW can provide results, and so the only variable factor is yourself. If you play a random build that hasn’t “proven” itself so to speak, then you run the risk of not knowing whether a loss was due to your bad decision making/player skill or the choice of build. Reduce variable factors as much as possible.
Just my suggestion.

Wanna hang in game and practice Thieving? I could really use the help. What weapons is good with that build? I have a big preference for D/P. Whenever I swap to D/D I really miss shadow shot and blinding powder. Thief – Xyranthion
