Go to 2:02 and you’ll see a list of items that the creator is scrolling through. You’ll see Sclerite Karka Shell towards the bottom when he says “Mini’s.” It’s really hard to see, but it’s there.

Here’s the build I’ve been using for SPVP. What do you all think? What changes could I make that would improve my damage while keeping survivability?

I’ve been going back and forth between Celestial and Soldier. What I’ve come to determine is that while the extra healing and condi damage from celestial is nice, the added toughness, vitality, and raw damage output from soldier can be better for me.

What’s the general consensus?

Roll an Ele and never look back.

Seriously, the skill ceiling is the highest of all the other professions, and you’ll need to use your brain to play one, and actively defend/heal yourself and allies while putting out damage on enemies, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll have complete understanding of the game mechanics, and be a very accurate and articulate player in your actions and cooldowns.

If you want to just roll your face along your keys while not really learning a thing because you don’t need to dodge/evade or use active defenses, then play a warrior. Seriously, Healing Signet heals for you. You don’t even have to press your heal as it’s passive. So absurdly mind numbing for me personally. People keep saying to “play a warrior while you learn the game,” but the double edged sword here is that you won’t be challenged to learn a thing as a Warrior has so much just handed to it in the form of damage/CC/defense that you can get to 80 without having to learn much of the mechanics as they can all be cheesed.

Anet has also claimed in some red posts that they’re “looking into the warrior,” and how some warrior mechanics are too easily accessible. Also, Ele just had some of their nerfs from previous patches rolled back. Ele’s have returned and are better than ever thanks to strength runes!

In the end, it really comes down to your playstyle. Are you tactical? Do you think about supporting your team while fighting? Do you like attunement dancing? Do you like having to swap into water attunement to heal yourself and allies? Do you like utilizing combo fields for maximum boon uptime? Do you like the looks of heavy armor, or light armor?

Depending on how you respond to those questions, you’ll know which is the better option for yourself. Personally, I like Ele as I love attunement dancing, handing out boons like candy, healing, and doing some of the best damage in the game all at the same time. You can also have perma swiftness on an Ele. Try that on a warrior.

People complain about the LS, but I for one, who missed it, am rather sad that I did. I’ve watched all the video content, read the wiki about it, and I want more. The story seemed like a Holywood summer blockbuster made into a videogame, ending with a climactic awakening of an underground beast. I personally can’t wait for season 2.

As for the personal story, I feel I’m nearing the end as I’m rallying the Orders then shipping off to a safe Haven Trahearne has etched out in Orr to make our way to Zhaitan. I’m really excited to see how it goes. I’ve never actually enjoyed the story content in other MMO’s as I do GW2. When I played WoW, I didn’t care for the story other than Wrath, which was AWESOME, and mostly due to the world event where we turned into zombies, much like a Living Story event could have us do. The fact an MMO has me caring for its world and story is great.

I hope now that the China release is over and they have their team assembled, we will see more information about what is coming next.

Also, I don’t think NC would cut funding because of Wildstar, especially as it would be really risky to invest more into a game that is just about to come out and doesn’t have any data around how much money it can be making. Personally, I played the beta for W* and hated it.

If ANet really wants to make sPvP a truly competitive game mode, then they need to stop working on it altogether. Instead, augment custom arenas to allow players to adjust spell costs, durations and coefficients. Let the community balance the game for them. Then just suck in the ‘best of breed’ changes and baseline them in future builds.

Oh my god, that sounds amazing. I’d love to play my Ele with lower CD’s on RTL/EQ/Updraft as well as no cooldowns on attunement swapping. That would seriously make Ele so much fun.

Anet doesn’t ignore players but it’s a fact that spvp improvements are really really slow.

Population in this game is 70% pve, maybe now that spvp is more integrated with pve, many players want to play spvp and we will get more update for it.

IMHO New Game modes (TDM 2vs2, 3vs3), unique spvp tracks (like balthazar backpack but also unique for soloqueue and teamqueue) and spvp seasons with league/ladder could help A LOT.

While we’d love to give you a time and date of when we’re sending out the potato, remember that during the development process we may discover that a baked potato would be even better. So instead of getting the potato of your dreams you end up with something completely unexpected.

It often happens that a mashed potato with gravy is even better still, unfortunately gravy requires more dev time. So we end up shipping a mashed potato without gravy to meet our promise of ship time or we push back the time and date of when we are shipping again and again. You get your mashed potato with gravy but it is delivered much later than it was expected.

Worst of all that is when we realize that potatoes are way too mainstream and that yams are where it’s at now. And I think we all know how reactions seem to go when we ship yams instead of potatoes.

So in a lot of cases the best we can do is tell you that we are still in the kitchen cooking things up, we’re reading your feedback, and that we’re excited to get the meal out to you soon™.

I hope we’re getting potatoes with the rest of the update now.

On a more serious note. If you’re planning on adding any new instruments, a violin would be wonderful.

My problem with turrets is that they are too strong/useful for being ai (a problem this game has overall). It’s fine for it to be ok for new players, but with less management/skill should come less rewards. Not saying it should be nerfed into the ground, but it should be more noticeably weaker than the builds that take more skill.

Thanks for reporting this! This looks like a scaling issue where the effect is scaling the character’s size but the skill itself is not scaling. A fix for this will require some design work so I can’t say a whole lot in regards to when it could be fixed.

While a respect this honest answer, I’m really concernd that we didn’t even get a "soon™ ".

I wish I could say soon™. But this is a pretty interesting issue to address.

Are class skills so intricately tied to character size? Considering the MASSIVE range of customizable character/race sizes, this seems like a pretty glaring flaw that should’ve been highlighted before release :S

It was. The asura issue was apparently raised as early as alpha according to some. If it hasn’t been fixed or addressed since then, I wouldn’t expect it to be fixed going forward.

It really annoyed me seeing the NA TOL team mostly playing tiny little Asura’s…I hope Anet took note of that and why they did it. To be an esport, that kind of racial advantage shouldn’t exist.

I’ve also tried using a soldiers amulet instead of Celestials lately. I like it a lot more as I have 20K health, a lot more toughness, and still retain the power from when I would use a zerker’s, without any of the squishiness. Granted, your crit will be really low, but your sustained damage/health and overall presence in teamfights will be much longer, resulting in more damage. Try it out.

Anomaly.7612

D/D + 0/0/2/6/6 + Cantrips + Celestial bunker is your one and only answer. Ele “defense” revolves around that 1 build.

Every other Ele build continues to suffer from the same massive issues in SPvP it has been having over the last year or so.

The latest patch was pretty much a D/D patch.

And if you’re trying to claim damage mitigation should be improved or cooldowns reduced, I would also have to disagree. That would sort of go against the theme of the elementalist class as very mobile, high damage, but low actual mitigation. If you want high mitigation, lower mobility and lower damage/AoE damage, you can’t go wrong with guardian.

How about a very mobile, high damage AND high mitigation/avoidance class? Thief and Warrior.

“[thief and warrior] do a better job than what Ele’s do and are vastly easier to play”
You’re comparing apples to oranges, to strawberries.

Warrior can choose either damage or survival, hardly both and they’re not good AoE except hambow I guess… They still seem to consistently lose to D/D in 1v1, even sometimes staff. Thief is just a 1v1/gank class and inline for a buff somewhere IMO. Is stealth really damage mitigation vs ele?

I agree the latest patch is a D/D patch in terms of where the buffs happened. But regarding “the One” build, I’m at over 100 games with a custom 4/0/0/4/6 build at 76:35 win/loss in soloQ. That’s over 2:1 ratio. It was actually over 3:1 at the mid point before the matchmaking caught up. That doesn’t really happen with a subpar build. Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s the only good option.

I do agree eles are in a very restricted place in terms of builds, traits, and utilities. Their viability also seems very reliant on the new rune of strength which is not an ideal way to go about balancing a class… So yes there are issues with this precarious way Anet choose to balance things. Particularly when it seems likely (to me) that rune of strength will receive a nerf sooner or later.

But I’m just not seeing how as a blanket claim that damage mitigation is an issue, considering the above average sustain, dodge (vigor), and mobility options available to ele.

I personally prefer using a soldiers amulet with that build. More Vit/Toughness and power for raw damage.

Signet of restoration is pretty good on D/D. Ether renewal is great on a staff Ele as you can get interrupted when using it on a D/D quite easily since you’ll be close to melee range.

Sigil of Strength is still good to use in that setup if you want faster might stacking, but you won’t be critting a whole lot with your build since you’re not using a zerker amulet and have no points in air. Personally, I go with Sigil of Battle and Doom. Doom is great as you drop poison on people all the time and it’s main use is to drop healing effectiveness on enemies. It works wonders against Warriors/Thieves/Necro’s, which are basically our bane.

If you can unlock it, Arcane Brilliance is an amazing healing tool since it’s a blast finisher and does damage. It will help with might stacking and cleaving.

Also, mist form on D/D sucks. Use Armor of Earth. If you time it right, you can have almost perma protection. Once you start taking damage, pop it, wait til it drops, and if you take Earth’s Embrace to give another Armor of Earth once you hit 50% HP, you’ll have a lot of uptime on damage reduction/stability/CC breaks. Stone splinters is ok, but with your build, Armor of Earth would do wonders.

Looking through the lists of CC that people provide; our abilities are definitely really nice on paper, but when in game, as far as CC is concerned for a D/D, Updraft, Shocking Aura and Earthquake are all on really long CD’s. As well as RTL. 40 second CD’s are simply not justified. I think most issues that people have when playing an Ele can be completely fixed with shorter CD’s. Especially with Updraft and Earthquake. Whenever I’m getting bursted, it’s a game changer to updraft or EQ a Thief/Warrior/etc. It also feels so good to throw around a hammertard warrior.

If Anet doesn’t want to lower our CD’s on these very important abilities, then at least increase the CD’s for fears and other CC’s across all characters so they become abilities that people use strategically, because as it stands now, hammer warriors can just rotate through their CC’s over and over without having to give their CD’s a thought. Also, Necro’s get to automatically fear people when any kind of CC gets applied to them. There’s not much counter play to that, and it rewards passive play, which is something that IIRC Anet doesn’t want in PvP.

Do CC’s have diminishing returns? In the case they don’t, they really should. I know immobilize has a stacking duration, which I find hilarious and cheesey. It’s basically a death sentence, especially because we can’t dodge roll when immob’d.

Elementalist or Necromancer?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Anomaly.7612

Anomaly.7612

I dont think i will be able to play Elementalist well……It seems you have to put out combo fields/stack might or some other party utilites/buffs,I am not good with these kinda of things

Getting combo fields into your rotation takes a little bit of getting used to, but it’s super beneficial to your team and yourself to be stacking might on everyone, blasting water fields in dungeons, and overall being a very vital asset to any team.

The acronym for a PvE team comp is GWEN. It stands for Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist, Necro. I’m not sure why Necro is vital as they’re actually not that effective in PvE, but they’re pretty good in PvP, but not top tier at all.

Basically, if you’re new, roll a guardian or warrior. Learn the ropes with them as they’re the easiest professions to learn.

Myself, I started with Ele and Thief. Two of the most non-noob friendly professions in this game, but I tend to gravitate towards those kinds of characters in all games anyways, and wizard/mage or rogue/thief classes have a reputation for being hardmode in any game you’re playing.

Seriously, though. Ele should come with a disclaimer saying that you are now playing GW2 in hardmode because you really will be, but just like anything, you’ll get used to it, and end up being a better player because of it.

For example, start off with the staff Ele. You don’t need to attunement swap if you don’t want to unless you need to heal or CC. You can just camp out in fire and blast mobs before they touch you, but in the case you do need to heal, pop into water, drop some fields on you to heal up, then go to air to CC or just back to fire.

Personally, I’ve had no issues while leveling an Ele. Crafting gives a LOT of experience. Seriously, you can level 0-80 with just crafting if you have the gold. It takes around 50 gold to get all the mats for the respected armor crafting type of your chosen profession. Or you can do spvp and work toward dungeon reward tracks which give you tomes of knowledge which grant one level. Through Spvp, all your weapon skills/traits/runes/sigils/amulets, are all provided and you can start at level 2 which declares the end of the tutorial zone, which is a very fast tutorial. WvW also gives a lot of experience. Just follow a commander in Edge of The Mists (you’ll know them by the big blue triangle above their head on the map), and zerg around which will net you way more xp than map completions or dynamic events.

To level in this game is to understand that this game is NOT a typical “questing” MMO. There are no quests. Hearts on the map are not quests. Map hearts are there to hold your hand to where dynamic events are taking place. Certain high level maps don’t have any hearts to show you where to go, it’s nothing but DE’s. There are so many ways to level up in this game, so feel free to explore, PvP, craft, gather, WvW to your heart’s content because they are all valid. Except crafting. That kitten nets more xp than anything else in this game.

For a skill that is so easy to dodge it does mediocre damage. on top of that maybe the water 2 skill should just be instant but longer cool down and less vuln because I rarely ever use that spell EVER.

It should drop much faster for the amount of damage it does. If it was nearly instant, it’d be fine with the damage it does currently. Increase in damage would result in an increase in hang time I’m guessing. Keep the damage, lower the hang time.

So then what in the hell should I be doing instead? You point out what I shouldn’t be doing so very well, but I’d really like some input on what I could be doing instead.

I’d also like to point out that I don’t know how that rotation is considered lazy. It’s a total of 13 buttons (counting attunement swaps) when a common rotation on another class is 3 or 4.

Well, you should learn your spells and arrange them thoughtfully in short, well timed and situational sequences. Parts of that big chain from previous post are nice examples of such sequences but it doesn’t mean that you must always use firegrab after burning speed after updraft or blast ring of fire with earthquake. Try to firegrab people while burning them with cleansing fire or blast burning speed’s firefield. A lot of possibilities actually.

I don’t even want to know what you consider a Thief or Warrior…

Well… lets leave it as it is.

Thanks! I’ll try changing it up to keep enemies on their toes. Is the only blast finisher on Evasive Arcana in earth? D/D is so much more complex than non-ele’s think.

Also, Zerkers or Celestials? I’ve been really indecisive about this one lately. If I’m always getting focused and want to bunker more, Celes seems suitable, but I’ve been having a hard time putting out lots of damage with a Celes. 1v1’s usually end with either a teammate, or my enemies teammate coming in and finishing the fight. Otherwise, a 1v1 is usually a stalemate for me.

Underlying question – What in Gw2 Lacks Punishment/Risk?

- Healing Signet. No risk in using that. It never goes on CD, as it’s more helpful to have the passive because of the heal, and it can’t be cleansed or removed by other players.

- Stealth. The Thief/Mez/Etc still moves at the same speed (IIRC), drops aggro/target. Thieves can passively heal/remove condi’s in stealth if specc’d right.

Basically, anything that promotes passive play.

Anomaly.7612

None of the “Adventurer” classes are the best in ranged. Elementalist takes the cake on that one, with warrior coming in second.

As an aside: Ranged in this game is far less effective in PvE as opposed to Melee. All high content groups will want you to melee and not range because it is easy to melee and the damage is much higher. Also a lot of the AI reacts differently when ranged (Lupi will bubble you/teleport if ranged, won’t do that if you melee). You are welcome to play however you want, but just as an FYI a lot of PvE is “stacking” mentality and people get upset when you ranged. Every dungeon in this game uses stacking to do it efficiently and people will expect you to stack. So just keep that in mind when making your decision.

What if a staff Ele were to be within melee range, but still using a staff? Is it merely the range at which people are standing, or the kind of weapon they’re using?

Yesterday I’ve picked the D/D for the really first time and I found it quite ridiculous.

Playing without any greater experience in daggers gave me 2/3v1 fights I was able to handle with some random rotations.

The damage is also pretty neat, as single Burning Speed can crit for over 4k.

As for rotations, with occassional dagger #4 in earth into ring of fire or EA earth dodge and no proper rotation, I maintained around 20 might stacks all the time with Strenght runes. It comes by itself.

I’ve been using the sigil of battle, and I like how it stacks quickly. I just realized I was using a strength sigil and that’s probably why I wasn’t stacking as quickly. That might be my issue. Also, is Celestial the way to go, or would Zerker prove to be good as well if I need more damage output?

Changed my sigil, used a celestials, all I did was die. Spvp isn’t fun when getting focused all the time. Thinkin I should just take a break from the game. I don’t do enough damage and just die all over the place.

You can chain some your skills if you want, but you can do it in numerous ways or don’t do at all if it isn’t effective. That’s the point of ele gameplay. If you want do to something like air4 air5 fire 3 fire5 fire4 earth4 earth2 water3 air1 and win you’re lazy and going to be punished by every experienced player.

If that’s what you consider lazy, I don’t even want to know what you consider a Thief or Warrior…

If you try to do rotations in PvP you are going to have a bad time

So lately I’ve been having a hard time in PvP as D/D 0/0/2/6/6. I do the common rotation of air>fire>earth>water, and capitalize on combo fields.

This build just doesn’t feel rewarding. I can do my combo’s, blazing speed/lightning combo effectively, CC/knock people back, and I’ll usually still get rocked while not putting out much damage at all. I’ve been using a Celes amulet.

Is it wrong of me to feel that I’m doing so much work for hardly any output of damage? My lightning whip hits for 1K crits when I’m lucky and if I have 15 stacks of might, which I’ve been hard pressed to maintain lately.

As much as i like GW2 i can’t say its not a big failure (while it certainly is) & popularity shows it all if it was better than certain game it would have been ahead in viewers (& may be playerbase).

now pls tell me where in the list is WoW & where is GW2 ?

Haha, at least we have more viewers than ESO. Only 290 is kind of sad, though. =\

I have a question about content access and LS:1-2. They said that they’re going to bring back some of the major things in LS1 for people to revisit? Are the Zephyrites and such what they were referring to?

Also, do I have to be max level in order to take part in the festival?

Will AN delay S2 because of Chinese version?

The only problem is it takes time and effort to do anything like that not to mention a huge strain on the server limit of content since new living stories come out pretty rapidly in a game developers time frame which also brings up the question…. “How can we fit this into the budget of a free to play game?” And the answer is simple, they cant.. So we’ll never have the option to replay old content unless anet wins the mega millions lottery and feels generous to waste money on us. Its a nice thought tho

There’s still hope with the Chinese! All that money they (hopefully) will be making can be put to some content sustainability. It’s a nice thought. It’d be like missing out on the first season of Game of Thrones and not being able to find past episodes anywhere. People would be mad, and disinterested.

I hope the game does well in China, but I can only imagine what a gamer must feel when they buy a game knowing they’re paying for a story that’s already in progress with a history they will never engage. I feel it as I wasn’t playing at all during the entirety of season one because of life.

Living World S1

It’s objectively terrible for the game, regardless of anyone’s personal opinion of it. The vast majority of players are casual- they want to feel at ease with being able to play the game when they want to play the game without missing major things. And the more at ease players are, the more likely they are to be content with the game and to spend money in the gemstore.

Relative to permanent content, temporary content offers only nebulous advantages while having significant negative impacts, like:

-The world never feels like it’s actually growing, which makes the game feel more and more stale the further from launch it gets. The longer it goes on, the bigger the vacuum gets and the harder time they’ll have playing catch-up.

-It actually discourages intermittent players, which are the majority, from returning to the game because they start getting behind in the story and can never actually experience it – at that point why would you bother? You just stop playing and move on.

-The content never needs to be of particularly high quality because it’s always removed a couple of weeks later, providing a cop-out for the design and development teams and leading to an overall lack of polish and failure to iterate.

It’s really quite simple – if Anet doesn’t feel like they’re making enough money and wants to ‘force’ the players to play (and shop) by controlling the game experience schedule, they’re going to lose. They already have, but it isn’t too late yet. It will be soon if they don’t take major corrective action.

I definitely feel this. I’m gonna hold into my virtual reality Asuran library dream because I think that could help them a lot. If people found out they could replay content they liked, or missed(could even have varying levels of difficulty which reward better loot), I think we’d see players sticking around longer, and gaining new players.

Plus, they’re just now releasing this game in China. How must those players feel to pay a comparable fee for a game with even less content than we’ve seen? That won’t make ANet any money. People will play the game, hear about the story, then realize they can’t take part in it, and just leave. Cool! A copy of the game was sold, but said player isn’t spending money in the cash shop, or engaging the community in the game. It’s hard for me to feel connected to a story I haven’t taken part in.

I’m tellin’ ya. Asuran virtual reality library would be the coolest answer to this issue.

I don’t like running bunker builds, but when I’m forced to (IE, another staff ele on the team) I run this:

Thanks, Chicken! I really like your builds. I watched a youtube vid of you playing with this build. It was pretty awesome. :P

Wow. I read through these pages without looking at time stamps. The whole time I thought, “wow I hope the devs look at our base health and armor, and the cooldown rates of our highly used skills like RTL/EQ/FG,” to go back and see that those things were mentioned a whopping 4 months ago.

That’s seriously discouraging. I remember I left this game a while ago because devs didn’t seem to do much about issues that the majority of the playerbase would speak up about. (back then it was when I was maining a necro). To come back to the game knowing that these things were talked about 4 months ago and nothing has been done about them isn’t instilling any hope. =\

Hey! I was wondering if anyone has a bunker build with a staff they can share? I’ve been really curious to try it out.

Thanks!
