I see your point now – with the MTG analogy. But still im not fun of any changes in game even if death could be counted as (end of round).

In fact im guessing in future with custom servers – we will see leagues and tournaments organized by players where not single elimination rulez will be applied but even different tournament system and not only BO1 but maybe BO3 or other formats..

but thanks for explaining your suggestion in more details.

I think there is less players in sPvP (tPvP) but as a result of no competition. They may be at WvW or playing PVE or even playing different game till competition is implemented.

I believe this is the reason most of the streamers just stopped – check this out – http://eternalmists.net/streams# offline streams – lot of them is offline 2weeks +. Its just simply there is no progress, no motivation to play more. Without competition.

so people get bored, and get back to their games. After we get ladder and some publicity, then lot of them will probably come back.

Anyway, its still far far away from deadh game. Tournements are poping regulary without waiting.. so not a big issue.. the only problem is – to have party (if you are casual)

Its not a MTG side deck as long as you speak about changing during the game. Even at respawn its “during the game”.

side deck in Guild Wars 2 is while waiting in MISTS – there you can change anything you want even your class, but once your team is going to the map – you are telling “im ready” no other changes should be allowed.

Back in GW1 i remember while we were waiting for next opponent, we offten checked observer in order to see our possible next opponents tactic and buid. Then we addapted. But it was in the game lobby, not in started game.

These two are a big difference as i see it. You should be able to change or switch class. But not in game that started. Even one of your teammembers entered the game, that should lock other members as well.

For every loss in Paid-PvP , they have to win 4 TPvP :P
Theres indeed PENALTIES for scrubs (called tickets) :P

not enough..
- you can buy the ticket in Auction House for gems
- you can craft it in forge
- you can get it from free tournaments.

I agree it would probably be better in terms of seeing more premades, but still it doesnt mean competition. You will not know if you just faced TOP 100 team or you just played a great game against oponent that is on similair level..
at this point its just guess.. were they good? or were they that bad? no idea..

I would like to see this one disabled. If you want to have the extra “swiftness buff” then you should stick with that weapon. Now everyone can simply swap.. for swiftness.

some classes even can change in order to be more effective against specific build.

so yea, just disable it and it would be great.

Also in addition, i would like to see a system where players are able to switch class in between games (while waiting) but not after one of the team enter the map for fight. From that moment on – any changes shouldnt be possible. And i mean any changes for all 5 members – in order to avoid this “counter your class” mentality and let people actaully think about their builds in advance and make them “balanced” not countering something..

any players statistic are not in any means of competitive game.
its just nice addon, but thats it.

PvP needs to be competetive, paid tournaments are step fowarad, but sorry only a small step.. without matchmaking and ladder – there will be TOP teams roflstomping everything and not playing with others TOP teams.. and thats the point.. we need to fight teams of equall skill level.. only that way the game will remain fun and players will have target and way how to meassure success

in fact whole PvP is a bit of mess.. Yesterday i looked at an old GW1 game on youtube. kitten . it was so clear !! all the efect and animations. While in GW2 i see so nice effect but totaly confusing ones and big ones.
In GW1 we had a 7v7 flagstand fight and it was totally clear whats going on..
In GW2 i see 5v5 fight on keep or even 4v4 and its a big light show !

Meta started to change.. dont you see so many necromancesr arround now ? what a boom !!
and actually fights against double guardians are now simply easy.. the only difference is khylo.. they are so strong there with thiefs as roamers (due to thief being able to avoid stairs by ports)

There is only one exception i can accept.. if you switch your character in between maps.. while waiting in MISTS.. thats i believe is correct because then you can change your strategy based on map you play.

I could see why they would implement the idea on non-swapping and I’m ok with it, just I think it adds a bit more flexibility to those teams who can play multi professions.

On the flip side, the above is open to abuse. What’s to stop your guardian entering, telling the thief they have heavy condition team and swoitches out for a tanky necro before entering the map? Still open to the same thing just you’d get your “non swap” team members to enter first and tell you their line up.

I see pros and cons to swapping, but if I can play 4 classes and want to counter a team, or we have better ideas of builds and what counters theirs, I feel I should be rewarded for the knowlege not penialised.

I share same of your points – especitatelly with the ability be able to play more then only once class. If i remember correctly – in GW1 it was a normal gamestyle that players were playing like 4-5 different classes and they switched regulary.

Maybe i said it wrong, im not really against playing more classess. In fact that will in future means you are better player. But im against swithing when the game is about to start or even in middle (also saw some of these) of game.

What i proposed was to have “im ready” button in MISTS. and only when all 5 players will press it – then you go inside the map.. and i meant all 5 players as one. That will avoid any “spy” action.

But back to my post, im definitelly for changing your class in between games when you are waiting for next map.

Bunkers just provide enough time for reinforcements.. sometimes too much of time. And they can possibly kick you many times out of point which result in neutralize or total lost of your point.

Back to the topic, it will always be like that.. – due to the game mode. You need to have defensive guys .. defending and offensive guys with high mobility. Thats the trick.

But i agree its highly annoying. Especiatelly seeing more and more defenzive playstyles..

there are hidden cooldowns on sigils and traits that are not mentioned in description.

i believe for most of the “on swap” sigils it is 9 seconds. Be also aware that they share internal cooldowns so if you have 2 “on swap” sigils in your weapon set – then only one will proc

I think he means a single player can’t hot-swap their character in between matches. Which shouldn’t be allowed anyways IMO. Good news.

I don’t think hot-swapping is a bad thing. If people can play 2 classes and see a match up where the need something more specific i.e more dps or condition cleansing etc, let them swap. No harm in doing that.

I actually believe thats one of the biggest issues. You join tournament, you go to the map, you see your enemy is running XXX and you just relog to be perfect counter.
Do you think its fair? You should have a plan and strategy in before you go into match. What about opposite team? they see you just swap your character.. wow.. so they are countered now so what they do? yeah they can swap as well, and now they counter your counter.

Im sorry but in my point of view. the “im ready” button should be available in MISTS and after you press it – and your whole team press it.. then and only then you go into the map and see your opponent – from that moment on, there is no comming back and relog.

Bunkers are here because of CONQUEST mode. In this mode you have to capture and defend points.
People say bunkers and immediatelly think about guardians.. but hey.. thats because of the metagame.
Guardians actually have most CC comming from their spirit weapons + hammer that they can literaly kick your kitten out of your point and at least neutralize.

but look at the game.. look at whats being used? We started with balanced setups, then there was a high thief burst metagame, insted then guardians and as a reply to guardians bunkers people actually started to bring necromancers to tPvP !

Thats how the game evolve.. thats what will be in future called metagame.
At this point i could only say guardians are here because they have access to AOE stability comming from shouts (24 second traited).. Without this luxury.. people will start to think why to bring guardian? why not tanky necro? or tanky mesmer? both can be even more tanky then guard..

but the main is.. game mode.. it will be always about roamers / defenders as long as we have to cap the points for victory

downed mode just need some balancing. Actually it is in balance need for a long time allready.

Also some classes have too much stability allowing them uninteruptable stomping while other classess have no access at all. There are some other issues like quickness stomps, stealth stomps etc..

but anyway.. withot downed mode, the game woudnt be as interesting as it is..

if you have any issues with downed mode, then you have to find different way how to play in team setup..

common guys.. this is what are we waiting for. Dont start with balance – you know as others the game is more or less ballanced and playable. There is no “perfect balance” and it will also be personal opinion..

Paid tournamenst its just small step, it will help us to have more challenging games and PUGS groups will now have better days in free tournamenst.
BUT its still nothing without matchmaking system.. so dont complain.. be glad we have at least this small step annouced

just make sure you are out of the big AOE red circle. Carefully watch the thief, he is unkilable while in death blossom (evasive attack) but when he land, you have your small window of oportunity. Also if you use any AOE.. use it.. its a good counter

custom arenas = private servers we both are talking about same. But we dont know when it will be supported ingame.. so be carefull you can be disapointed as im right now.

and regarding ideas..

its more about publicity. Just make sure the league is well promoted, discussed on forum boards. Streaming could be nice if possible (again spectator mode is not supported ingame and we dont know when it will be possible).
so basically we just dont have options how to manage it

First i would like to know if you have any information that i dont. Because the only information about custom tournaments is comming from latest post from Chap – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/
and there is actually no estimation date, so it could still be 6-12 monhts away.

dont get me wrong im probably looking for this feature as you do, but i started to be much more sceptical.

To answer your question, yes. I would be join with my guild as many of these tournaments and custom leagues as it would be technically possible for us.
On top of that i got a plans to organize some of the tournaments too – for my community. With help of playzone.cz server i have prepared this few months ago..

Shamefully there is no custom tournaments in game, so for now i just have to wait.. and dont get crazy from playing against pugs

I actually like Khylo because there is a treb mechanic. In my point of view its the most ballanced out of 3 tournaments map.
1) it gives you lot of options. Lot of strategies. There is more than one actually.. and also it highly promote timing and communication (when to dogde, when to attack middle point, when do avoid middle point)

2) others maps in compare are brainless. For example Foefier. Why there is even guild lord? at 350 mark you just rush it, ignore all the other NPC and just put mesmer quicknes. lord is deadth in 5 seconds = gg

if we go to forest, who cares? just send one burst charr to steal, if you manage it then you probably win 80% of games on forest. = gg.

no no .. Khylo is definitelly best map and best secondary mechanic, even i hate elementalist on treb i still consider it as “change strategy and learn to play issue”

Ok, so Why i do believe ladder / ranking is more important and healthy than custom tournaments?

1) with custom tournaments you have no guarantie that you go play against best teams! i can be a total noob and join any of these tournaments. Leaving the issue we are facing right now.. – there is no challenge.

2) You never know how good opponent you are facing. It can be twice as good it can be just average. How do you want to know if you are actually improving ?

Ladder / ranking is important because you know your status. You know your team is in top 100 for example and the guys you just easily killed were over 500 so its clear you had upper hand.

while playing for ladder / ranking you have unlimited pool of players / teams. In custom tournaments you are only limited by the actuall tournament. That way you can´t say or compare yourself to “best”. You even dont know where you are.

Just imagine, there will be lot of interest to join these .. so how do you separate “top tournaments” vs “average” without knowing whats the ranking of guilds that are participating?

Dont get me wrong. Im definitelly supporting custom tournaments. Hell im waiting for it just because i allready have price sponzors and servers systems ready for it..

but in my eyes.. thats not going to work without knowing rankings of teams.

I would love to see Anet reconsider their priority like this

1) paid tournaments
2) matchmaking in paid tournaments + ladder / ranking
3) anything else like custom tournaments

there is no challenge to play against organized teams (and i dont believe they will be organized in paid tournament) if they are far far bellow level of your team.

Thats why SC2 has different leagues !! to matchup players of same levels.

Any of you actually believe its fun to play and win 90% of games? Any of you actaully believe you can improve when you get roflstomped in few seconds ? Any of you actaully having fun while not fighting teams of your level?

Well, Im pretty much disapointed by the blog post. In fact i expected it to be “comming soon” but all this in the blog is something we allready know its comming. You allready told us this goal and what do you want.

I was personally expecting some facts instead of ideas.

1) when? Are we talking weeks? monhts? maybe start of the new year?
2) How? What does it mean “rent” server? Do i need to pay real money? or gems to be able to start custom arena or organize tournament? Dont get me wrong, but i spend lot of time to organize PvP community and all the guilds are waiting to fight each other.
3) Where is challenge? without matchmaking system it doesnt really matter there will be paid tournaments. First round will be anyway filled with randoms who will get free chest even if they loose game. So what you will do? setup a random party in mists – join paid tournament and get free reward. Well almost free..
Ladder and matchmaking system is priority number one. Do you want the sPvP community growin up? THen you need to challenge them ! Without matchmaking the situation will be pretty same. Good teams will roflstomp bad teams in seconds. Noone will have fun as bad team will hardly realize what just happened and good team had no effort to do that.

Matchmaking is the only way how to improve the sPvP and in my opinion it should be priority number one !

Well, i think im done with PvP till probably next two years because based on this blog post i do not have the feeling that pvp is coming any time soon.

Sorry.. but thats how i feel it.

if you played only one then its your problem. I played different roles and different playstyle with my mesmer and this nerf is not going to stop it..

the only weapon i see as not usefull is scepter.. (maybe i will figure out later a good build with scepter)

Playing on Ring of Fire (altought i think it doesnt matter as matches are per datacenter)

Last week we had a hudge lagspikes on Sunday only on Forest of Niflhel map. Yesterday we had same lag spikes (3-5 sec) on Legacy of Foefire map.

Its strage that other two maps are totaly fine (forest and khylo were without lags whole Sunday). So i believe there is something wrong with one of the servers or the one that is actually workign with Foefire map.

Hope this feedback will help.. and at same point – for other posters, please give exact informations (when, what map, how offten) so Anet can take the information from it and react.

Anyone feel they went to far with the phantasm nerf?

They can be killed with ease, you can line of sight them or roll to avoid there initial burst then just walk over and 1 or 2 hit them. They die in seconds from almost all kinds of aoe. They stick out like a sore thumb, so why wouldn’t you go over and kill them?

This nerf needs to be accompanied by a buff that lets them take more damage before death and or makes them less noticeable, They should just look like one of your clones but with a different weapon.

Summoning a phantasm once every 20 secs was a miscalculation, please address this further.

Thoughts?

Im playing a mesmer and i think you just react too fast on it. There is still lot of work with phantasms / clones in general.

I think i will just wait and try myself whats the result, but i dont want to judge it that fast. Mesmeres were in need of a nerf thats for sure to me. So if this will help to balance out, then im fine with it.

4 Bunker 1 DPS (Mes) - I don't know how to counter this.

Conditions – can work sometimes but there is a lot of cond removal too.
Capping and dont let recap? thats not working they do have enough knocback and wards to make sure they at least neutralize and later on cap.
dont die? that could be probably done but how do you cap the point then?
Zerg point? How? any decent team is checking your movement they wont be suprised for any long and if yes, they still have portal and two other points.
even worst situation.. how do you manage if they play a safe game with only 2 points? guarantee them points advantage and portal always up in between these points?

so how to counter it?

defenzive play is what is winning games in tournaments. Defensive bunker ele can easily hold 3 guys and just laught at them.. same for guardian an on top of that they still do quite decent dmg. In fact elementalist by AOE so its powerfull enough.
its kind of boring that conquest mechanic is driving everyone to go turtle specs !!

duration of hammer 30 sec out of 45 sec CD while traited? thats giving a 15 sec windows for kill in 1v1 situation.

Im not saying its OP, but its highly annoying without focusing the Guardian using his own skill. If i go with spirit spec i will have decent results and probably win most of 1v1 fights without any knowelage.. just by buttonsmashing.
So in fact this is kind of “easy to play” builds as i see it.

Thief dont have strong downstate skills lol… 1 teleport and 1 stealth (where he stay at same place). Most OP:

Mesmers- clones, teleporting, stealth… just wtf is this.
Warrior- knock down for 1 target, instant stand and 15s for kill target (before self death)
Guardian- mass AOE Push back, life drain

Really? Lets count together

Elementalist = no interupt at all = easy stomp
Warrior / Necro / engineer = Single interupt = 1 enemy can be interupted once
Guardian / Ranger = AOE interupt = AOE interupt – once

Mesmer = illusion = 1 interupt

And now Thief = teleport = 1 interupt. Stealth = Second interupt !! So in fact Thief is the only class that is able to interupt the stomp twice. And basically it can´t be negated in any way. While all professions except for Thief and mesmer can be negated by using stability / distorsion / Aegis / blind etc.

So if we trully compare the downed state

Thief has the best with ability to avoid stomp for at least 2 times and not counterable
Mesmer is second because it can interupt at least once without any counter

then there is nothing for a long time and after that other proffesions are following.. ending up with ele who has nothing but uselles imobilize (very usefull to imobilize foe who is standing next to you and stomping you.. )

where is compettition? where is what was promissed? PvPers get like 20% of what the game should offer and we have no information when the rest will be delivered.

I found more than annoying that elementalist doesnt have any effective defense in downed mode. In fact they are easy kill. once you get them to downed mode – just stomp and there is nothing they can do for themselfs.

As i see it Guardian is just soo strong in what he should do. One specific role – and thats is “hold the point”. Once he get the point under his control.. you need to send at least 2 your DPS to take him down. For most classess °1v1 vs Guardian is impossible which is the basic of counquest.. you actually have lot of 1v1 and 2v2 fights. If you have one guardian in team his role is mainly hold middle point. If you actually have 2 guardians you can easily hold 2 points.
Guardian is so strong not because its OP.. but because it takes muuch longer to kill him, it also require to have specific build against him (like conditions builds). And while you fighting him.. he is allready telling his teammates for support. If you face good team you will never be able to outnumber him or only for short time.. giving you once again no chance or much less chance to kill a retake the point.

just for yesterday i played all together about 20 tournament games.. out of these 17 teams had double guardian in rooster.
To be honest i dont really care that sometimes i lost the game.. but to me it starting to be too much about holding and only defending and much more less about killing which is also related to Conquest mechanic.
So in my point of view CONQUEST + GUARDIAN = thats the issue

im pretty sure, there is more teams and therefore PVE and PVP, both can get love.

my issue = no competition
how to solve? = implement ladder and matchmaking

thats the biggest one for me, actually gamebreaking. rest is not as important and i have plenty time for solving other issues.
