Yeah i completly agree with you my team and I are currently in the mid tier and we only get two outcomes in tpvp and it’s wither stomp or be stomped a boths sides offer absolutly no learning experience andhaving MMR will only help every part of our community from the low all the way to the top

same here.. we get like 1 great game matchup per week. I have to admit that PAID are much better but still without MM system.. not really working well + noone want to spend 15-20 minutes in queue doing nothing..

PAID tournaments are sending premades back to FREE tournaments where premades are killing everyghing. So.. basically its not working well

It’s not my opinion…WvsW falls under PvE rules, infact PvP nerfs and gears don’t affect WvsW…..if you take a look at skills you can clearly see that you have PvE versions in WvsW and PvP versions in PvP. It’s really easy to undestand

It’s pretty much as already explained by Gajarell the largest portion of the pvp community needs to be from the casual/ low-mid tier players. Just as a business pyrimid suggestions the main source of income is from the largest portion of the pyrimid the bottom and then that supports the above all the way to the top.

LoL is so successful is that it has more then enough supporters who are not generally good at the game but they enjoy to play the game and watch the better players succeed. I for one am one of them I play LoL and i’m not great at it but i love to watch the top players play normal ranked games and jump into a few scrub games for a laugh and get matched against people at an equal level to myself.

I played SC2 for some time (not really long just 4 months and then GW2 came out). RTS is not my style but i definitelly love to watch streams / all the e-sport tournaments and some casters (day9 / apollo).
Since im only silver league player i also enjoy the game, but you know whats the difference betwen SC2 and GW2? in SC2 i never had the feeling that i was matched against a monster simply.. my opponents were maximum gold leagues which is still playable for me, and i can even learn from it. I played once with my diamond friend.. .. it was soooo sooo soo boring as hell as i had no chance and he controlled whole game easily.

And here we go.. once again.. GW2 PVP is perfect ! its so good and even Conquest mode and downed state – its working fine. But you need to play against equally skilled players.

For game like this im here, for games like this i did a lot of work in our community and im even ready to organize tournaments. But.. games like this i see only once per week.. and thats just not enough.. and comparing it back to SC2? when i played SC2 yesterday out of 5 games i had 4 great ones and only one fast one. just becasue i was matched properly against players of same skill / level of play.

The reason for LoL and Dota being so successful in comparison to GW2 is that LoL especially is casual friendly and anyone can pick up the game and enjoy it. The problem is that at the moment hot join just does not offer the same experience and then when people try and transition from pugging hot join games to pugging touraments they come arcoss pre-mades that should be in paid, but due to paid being so empty they queue in free and come across these people who have just joined the game and they stomp them.

Also the reason that you see near to no one watching the GW2 streams is a direct result of the above. If the lower/ mid tier pvp community are not enjoying pvp, why would they want to watch the streams for the high/top tier players?

One more note from me
noob friendly game = game where you can play and not being destroyed by hardcore players in first hour of your gameplay experience.

(yesterday i solo joined tournament.. my team had all people r30+ while our opponents were rank 1-15 max. How is that fun? for them? and for us?)

I also believe that e-sport game can be created only from bottom to top. And while i agree with some of your points (especiatelly about SC2 as i spend some time with SC2) i still believe we need to create strong playerbase but the way how to create strong playerbase is to have a game that people enjoy.. to play, to watch.

You right at one point. Ladder is not important. People tend to connect ladder and matchmaking inside one. But matchmaking is important. In order to create game that everyone enjoy. I believe that people are leaving mainly due to fact that they are matched against too strong opponnents or too weak opponents. So its even easy win or total loss. Nothing between.

So.. agree, ladder is not that important, but matchmaking still is. Absence of matchmaking is now what make people leaving.. whats make then flustrated, and whats in result brings more and more unplayable enviroment..

Well, actually thats first step.. but without first, you can´t do next.. right

anyway, im starting to be pesimistic, people are really leaving fast now.. 15th update didnt helped at all. It fixed lot of issues, but well.. still didnt created competition.. which is why pepole leave.

Yes, but in order to build a game you need to have the basic, and at this point we talk about competetive enviroment.. while we do have the game, but dont have competition.. Of course there will be pepole that do not care, but thats also the part which should come together with machmaking.. = they will probably then get mached against other players like this and this will lead for both sides to enjoy the game a bit more.
unlocking / achievements / everything else.. is nice to have but doesnt work if we dont have the basic = and thats competition..

Or you could just bottleneck tournaments and said “paids are only online for this period of time”. That would encourage more people to use them in that period, and would also make multiple tournaments go at the same time (instead of an elongated period with the same teams queuing with small trades outs). I do however know that people want to be able to jump in at any point in time and do paids, but that doesn’t happen at all due to the population (if in the future the community becomes large then a longer time duration or 24 hour possibilities should be revisited). Fixed time would make paids more player heavy for a short time, which is good for a larger variety of people winning them (winning makes people more interested in staying), and also improves the gathering of tickets left for the rest of the day (ie less people running out of tickets).

Fixed times are not that nice idea. REmember GW1 tournaments with fixed times. – most issues comming also from different timezones.

Fixed can be a big tournament from time to time, but not daily.

I think conquest is a laugh in our face. It’s not a good mode for MMO PvP in my opinion.

From What I have seen, most group fights end up in spamming AOE damage and Heals and hope you have bigger numbers than your opponent.

Nope, maybe on low level – but in paid tournaments, you actually play more on all 3 points and therefore you do have split all the time and small fights 1v1 and 2v2. if there is a fight bigger then 2v2 or 3v3 then it usually mean that one team is more superior and is able to lock you at respawn or on one point.

GW1 PvP was so much superior to this.

Thats right, GW1 was much more PVP oriented and with more focus on team play and team focus.

still can´t understeand why Anet decide to create new PVP .. if their first try was sooo soo sucessfull..

The problem i see is somehow what is priority..

Maybe im wrong but in my opinion priority for sPvP community should be

1) matchmaking or any system that will matchup teams of similar skill level against each other on in same tournament.
2) after matchmaking is in place we can think Ladder and how to show ladder on website (stop posting QP jokes.. please.. real ladder based on ELO)

this two points will actually make sure people stop leaving and probably players will start care ! Also the game will be sooo sooo different when you have chance to play “good games” against opponenst of same skill..

3) any other activity including custom arenas, new modes, new maps, dueling options, balance issues, bug fixes, any e-sport tournaments, spectator mode etc. etc..

point 3 here make only sense if previous two are working.. .. if point 3 is implemented without poin 1 and 2 in place, then .. i just dont care because it will not help, maybe it could be nice and fresh for first 14 days.. but then we go back to basic ! and thats – where is matchmaking? where is ladder?

I believe there is more people like me with this opinion..

that exactly my point, shouldnt have to manage whether or not to man treb… whether or not to attack treb. you leave a guy at treb to long u lose out on nodes but if u dont handle the treb you get owned at the nodes as well

but thats part of strategy and your team overview.. normally you can get 1-2 supprisive shot but thats it.. and these are normally easily to be dodged..

do you play in paid tournaments? because there is really hudge difference between paid and free tournaments in terms of treb usage

There is nothing wrong with Conquest mechanic and also doesnt matter its only one playable mode.

Problem is – you dont get challenging matches. You are even against players who just installed the game or you play against hardcore teams. So you even get stomped fast or you stomp fast..

When you get players of equall skill – then you will see conquest in different dimension ! so challenging so intensive, and so great !! but unfortunatelly there is no matchmaking so these games are very rare..

I think what he is trying to say is that the treb mechanic in general is a game changing advantage…. i dont want to have to man/ send 1-2 people to kill the treb. This map is suppose to be who can cap the point better… not who can defend thier treb better

it is .. but if you focus too much on your treb.. you will lose anyway.. one ele will not make you fire and then you lost too much of time. And if you defend with two guys? well then you left your teammates fighting 5v3 on battelfield.. even with treb support they will be quite able to hold two points and therefore you loosing game

GW2 PVP is best outthere right now. No matter the balance problems (some classess will always have upper hand), no matter bugs, no matter other issues.
GW2 PVP is FUN and its great. Conquest is not the best mechanic but considering downed mode and tournament system its FINE AND PLAYABLE.

Where do you play?? Most teams realized long time ago, TREB is important but only in some part of game and therefore they dont camp it, event they rarely use portal to repair it.

In fact i see more and more teams running without treb or using treb only for 2-3 suprise shots and then ignore it again..

portal mesmers are no longer an issue.. its still the elementalist who can simply destroy treb too fast without any problems.. and you can´t send 2 people back to make sure your treb is fine.. if you do so.. you loosing points

patches are nice, but every patch that is not focusing matchmaking and PUG vs premade games is .. simpy not needed right now..

Its a question of how its set right now..

while entry fee is still 5 tickets and we now have to win 1 or 2 place to at least stay at our investment..

im not sure 25% of chance to win 10 or 30 gems (i dont believe the chance of wining 1000 gems jackpot is anyhow possible on daily basic) will not help that much.

I will also never ever use real money to buy ticket.. and so all the people in our community i know. So if this RNG Jackpot will not help to fill paid tournaments queue.. it will probably become even more boring with PAID queues..

i still dont get the philosophy.. i can imagine Anet wants to get some money from it.. but there is probably only small ammount of people who will ever give real money for tickets.. instead they will try to get tickets from free tournaments which is destroying the game for other Customers.

IN fact shortterms – it will bring some money, but in long terms it will mean lost of many Customers.

Well, i guess we need to wait and see how it works in reality.. maybe it will work and paid will be more fruequent now, maybe it will be even worst..

matchmaking? you do realize the queue times for paid tournaments correct? reading forums again reminds me of why I stopped before the game came out.

Yes, matchmaking + changes in paid tournaments that will allow more teams to compette. Right now i see 2 premade groups out of 3 free tournaments rounds.. .. why they dont go to paid? because they even burnout of ticket or they simply can´t stand the queue times.

If all the premade groups are fighting in paid – then matchmaking is the part where you as top player will face other top players instead of fighting new groups.

The main point here why mathmaking is improtant is to allow top teams fighting top teams and newcommers fighting newcommers.

In SC2 for example i spend some time in bronze league fighging new players so i never had the feeling that im figting a game i have no chance to win. When i was good enough, i got promoted.. and that repeated.. so – i had the feeling of progress.

Back in GW1.. matchmaking + ladder made same job in this.

so yeah.. matchmaking.. its important.. of course with combination of pool of teams so you dont get stuck in 1hour long queue time…

I hope this jackpot in conjunction with the dailies does increase the que pop.

Thats my hope as well.. its really important that premades are fighting premades and Free tournaments dont have that much of premade groups….

That could make casual / pug / solo players much more enjoying the game, and we all know, we need them !! we so badly need them that im sometimes scary to kill a guy in basic armor..

well, just joking.. but hopefully you get my point.. game is not fun if people get roflstomped instead of matched against equally skilled players.

I consider the balance pretty much good compared to others MMOs and with this patch even better.

What do agree is that Thiefs Bacstab is untouched. Nerfing CaD doesnt make sence in any way.. Especiatelly when almost all people are saying (including me) that the problem is you can pre-cast steal – which is leading to time attack where 3 abilities land at once.

But anyway.. balance is good and with this patch will be a bit better..

Paid tournaments also provide each finishing place a small chance to win gems in the following amounts. The chance of winning one of these is approximately 1 in 4. No player can win twice.
10 gems
35 gems
80 gems
120 gems
1000 gems

Does this mean that every time no matter what position im going to end-up each member of each team have aprox. 25% chance of winning this random reward? Im really not sure if i do understeand it correctly..

That would mean some additional income of tickets for sure – but if that will be enough for teams to be able participate continuously?

There is one true – noone or very less players will invest real money for it… so if we dont have ingame system how to keep people and mostly premades playing in PAID.. then.. they all be still farming PUGS in Free tournamnents.

Hi guys.. im a bit confused after reading the patch notes + update from Jon Peters.

Can someone count with me so i know i do count it right?

Before update we had:
1st place – 1 Gold Tournament Reward Chest, 360 glory, 360 rank points, 180 Gems
2nd place – 1 Silver Tournament Reward Chest, 240 glory, 240 rank points, 120 Gems
3rd place – 1 Silver Tournament Reward Chest, 120 glory, 120 rank points, 4 Tournament Tickets
4th place – 1 Silver Tournament Reward Chest, 120 glory, 120 rank points, 4 Tournament Tickets

After update we have:
1st place – 1 Gold Tournament chest, 500 glory, 500 rank points, 120 Gems, 5 Qualifying Points
2nd place – 1 Silver Tournament chest, 400 glory, 400 rank points, 80 Gems, 3 Qualifying Points
3rd place – 1 Silver Tournament chest, 300 glory, 300 rank points, 20 Gems, 1 Qualifying Points
4th place – 1 Silver Tournament chest, 300 glory, 300 rank points, 20 Gems, 1 Qualifying Points

And now lets count. We can buy 5 ticket in lions trade market for 75 gems. That is equall to 1 ticket per 15 gems.
So in terms of access to tournaments ticket we have following decrease of ammount:

1st place = from 12 going down to 8
2nd place = from 8 going down to 5,3
3th and 4th place = going down from 4 to 1,3 ticket

So what i see in fact is that if you end up at first map you lost 5 tickets, if you achieve to be 3th or 4th place then you lost almost 4 tickets and if you manage to be 2nd place then you got your 5 tickets back.
You are only in possitive billance if you endup as 1st.

Now we have daily and monthly achievements – which are rewarding us by tickets too.. but to be honest 1 ticket per day doesnt make any difference right?

So what i see here is that even less teams will be able to join PAID tournaments and therefore Queue times will be probably even worse? Even more organized teams will be forced back to Free tournaments?

Can someone please check that with me? I must be missing something.. because that would be really bad move..

when this is implemented, the game will get a whole new dimension !! finally you will not have boring games, you will fight opponents that are challenging to fight to while not impossible to defeat.

When this is ready.. we can talk next.. because only this can create strong playerbase and dont made newcomers leave after first week.. sorry but righ now.. new players with rank 10 are fighting rank 40 premades.. what is funny on this?

noone blame the combat mechanic as far as i know Actually players like it..

what most players complain about is

- PUGs fighting vs organized premades
- no ladders
- no spectator mode (that one we know it wasnt supposed to be at start)¨
- only one game mode
- simply hit and run tactic, no deep cooperation needed compared to GW1
- bugs

I have this scenario in my mind and to be honest its not that positive

1) after patch lot of free trials will join us
2) servers will probably be much more unstable then we are used. I also expect some crashes
3) As a result, people who still regulary play PvP will become more disapointed
4) Newcommers will probably be happy first few hours and enjoy the PVE part of the game. While trial PVPers will suffer sooooo much as they will probably get just stomped every single try or they will be forced to play hot-join and we all know.. hot-join is not representative part of PvP.
5) Players somehow do expect big changes. But to be honest, nothing was forecasted except new beta map (therefore hot-join) and some proffesion changes and bug fixes. Apart from this two points.. i do not expect anything new or changed.

Every player has its own opinion on what the game is missing and whoud should be priority.

For some it is new map, new gamemode, ladder implementation, balance changes, spectator implementation, custom servers etc.
If you check this forum regulary you see all these as offten discussed topic and from that .. i dont think someone can do really conclusion what is needed most.

BUT – i totaly hate the fact that im blind and i do not know what the devs are working on right now, and what we can expect in upcoming month or two… I would like to know these short terms plans in advance…. – and i do not really care about long term plans, because frankly.. we speaking in years here and i was waiting for 5 years allready..

no.. the players do deserve it. If you ever played paid tournaments – you know its much harder and i see people fighting for QP not buging.. (yes, from time to time but hey thats a life)

Heroes Ascent and its modes would be fun.. a simple arena where you go from map to map and you simply end up in Hall of Heroes and you fight there as long as you are able to win..

It was a great mode !! and even i was focused on gvg i have spend some serious time in HA. It was so unique mechanic.. and so awesome.

However. .thats not what GW2 need right now. We need to make working matchmaking so pugs dont fights premades and when this is working.. then Anet can start to think about new modes.

Im still in my opinion..

Conquest is totally fine as long as there is matchmaking system and you get equally skilled opponents.

What makes Conquest boring right now is that you even get killed by top teams or you kill randoms.

I have seen and played lot of great games where situation changed many times. It was great. I see the potencial there.. but we need matchmaking. And i believe we need it fast.

And – to the bunker builds: check Super Squad.. they run 4 full burst class and one semi bunker guardian. Look at how much QP they got..
its not about bunkers, its about burst..

Guilds means nothing in GW2.

back in GW2 we had our guild emblems and i was proud to show it !! especiatelly when i was wearing silver trim on my guildcape. But in GW2.. eh..
idea of emblem being on armor is great but who like guild armor? i guess only very small ammount of people..

there is no guild identity either.. you play sPvP as teams .. not as guilds

You realize that the game isn’t and never will be technically finished. As for why they don’t add X and Y now could be said for all “content” complaints. I like to think they ARE actually working on things that are exactly (or a general work field of) what we ask for, they’re just getting around to it as somethings might be more important in the DEV teams eyes than any few specific players.

I hope they just do realize that there is nothing else as important as ranking and matchmaking.
I know its sounds like personal opinion which is in fact. But if you see the game what makes player to play the game in long run?

is it new map? no
is it new gamemode? no
is it new exiting rewards and skins? no
is it the fact that you can roflstomp anyone? no (but i agree some players like it)

so whats make players to play the game for long time? Those above mentioned are great a nice but doesnt work as long as there is no basic.

Abraham Maslow made this awesome pyramid http://www.timlebon.com/maslow.htm showing what do people need.. and if you adjust it a bit for “games” then you see it differently.

If we dont get ranking and matchmaking – then simply nothing will change. We can be excited for 2 weeks from new map, or even new gamemode, but it will become boring as hell in same time. We need a challenge in our games – and by challenge i mean equally skilled opposition. I dont need to be roflstomped by top teams – and neather i dont like to roflstomp random players.
