Ok, this is one of two guild recruitment threads that have REALLY gotten me intrigued.
My first guild, I just never could click with and eventually I was booted when I was trying out a second guild. I have tried to stick with my current guild, but no one logs in and we aren’t growing.
Anyway, so what exactly do you mean by people with anxieties? One of my problems with never fitting in with a guild is due to my social anxiety. I have a hard time speaking up in larger guilds. That and I’m just weird. And small guilds never work out because they fall apart. I’m not a fan of things like vent either. That and I usually can’t get the mic to work anyway.
Also do you all still run all the dungeons? The only reason I don’t run dungeons is because I don’t have anyone I feel comfortable with to run them. I’d probably have a panic attack if I ran a PUG.
No, you can have multiple characters in multiple guilds. You got a tell because they could see your account logged on in the guild roster even though you weren’t representing.
I play Guild Wars 2 in 3d sometimes. I bought a brand new computer for this game (it came with nvidia 3d vision) and I can’t run my graphics on full while in 3d due to the lag. Mouse lag is the biggest problem. It makes some skills useless since you need your mouse. If I turn down the graphics it is fine, but I lose all the nice shading, etc. Also it is a very bad idea to play in 3d when killing any of the dragons due to the epic lag.
But I love going into the snowy zones with 3d on. The falling snow looks awesome. I wish there were more zones with weather.
This only appeared after the patch. An invisible stomach line has appeared with my armor set, just like the winged armor invisible stomach line.
Armor:
Assassin’s Coat
Vigil Leggings
Noble Mask
Noble Gloves
Duelist Pauldrons
Rawhide Boots
All are transmuted.
Orr can be annoying. I hated it at first. I’ve gotten used to it on one character and don’t have much of an issue now with Orr. It makes the rest of the game feel really easy.
I solo all the time and have no issues. However, I don’t do dungeons.
Yea, I’m the same. I do group when farming in Orr or Lost Shores if I can. I did actually manage to finish the map in all of Orr without grouping on one character so far. The only content I don’t do are dungeons. I am sad though that you need a group for the last personal story mission because it is in a dungeon. I sort of feel like I wasted my effort doing the personal story. I don’t do dungeons, because I don’t even want to risk getting in a group with mean people. I used to group for content like that long ago, but I just had too many bad experiences. Most farming groups barely talk and I like it that way, so I have no issue grouping for that. I’d do dungeons if I could find a good guild. However, I can’t seem to find a guild that I can do dungeons with because they are either too big and impossible to socialize with or too small and not enough people to do anything with.
While I don’t have a problem with dungeons, I don’t understand why Anet got rid of the henchmen/heroes for dungeon instances. If you were good enough, you could solo all of GW1, at least after they introduced heroes. Also back before EQ, there were multi-player games that didn’t require groups for anything. I played one called Graal online. It was basically like SNES zelda online. But one day the person that controlled the game left and they basically took the game out of the game and there was nothing left to do but kill players and npcs. The only reason why the game wasn’t a true “massive” multi-player game was because there just weren’t enough players IMO.
The same thing just happened to me. I was using say and said LFG 2 times in a span of a couple of minutes and then I was blocked all of a sudden. I hardly ever group for anything, and when I finally do try to, I can’t.
New to the game. Just hit level 80. Probably half the levels were from WvW
Bought some new equipment a couple of days ago. Died a few times today in WvW and realized I have enough cash for 8 more repairs only. So apparently I need to do dungeons or something to be able to WvW ? …even though I am not interested in doing dungeons or waiting in line to join some random pug only to get wiped over and over ?
How else to make cash ?
(and yes, I die often because A: new player B: Ranger )
Best thing you can do IMO is to go to Cursed Shore and do the dynamic events. The Pent/Shelt and Plinx events are pretty descent just make sure you group up, which is very easy being players are always looking to group up. Most nights I do this while waiting for friends or guildies to come on for either wv3 or dungeons and make at least 1g in less than an hour, some nights I get very lucky and make significantly more, its crazy how all that junk in your bag adds up to some good cash!
This is a good way, but one problem is everyone is doing it. Even in a group, mobs die before they can be attacked practically. So it takes timing with skills to get the first hit. I’m a ranger and use traps to help tag the most. I even got my first exotic drop there last night.
It should not be cheaper, but it should be a skin that you can generate from the vendor as many times as you like once you’ve paid to unlock it. Similar to the HoM items.
This I agree with. I do not look forward to grinding more of an armor set I already bought.
The House of Midnight
Welcome to The House of Midnight. We are a Drow Inspired Guild on the Tarnished Coast Server. While Drow do not currently exist in Guild Wars Canon, we roleplay as subterranean humans that have evolved over time to adapt to their new environment. It is a creative solution for those looking to play a drow-like character in the Guild Wars Universe without breaking lore canon.
The House itself is an adventuring/tradesman lodge located as chapter houses in the more populated cities of Tyria. However, trading and adventure are just the legitimate fronts of the House operations. Deep below each chapter house is a speakeasy with a dark history of dark secrets, unspoken pleasures, even a little death and debauchery.
We believe we are a unique concept for a Guild Wars organization with a complete historical timeline and additional story on the way. We invite you to look over our charter and character creation requirements. We look forward to roleplaying with you!
Guild Page: http://www.thom.enjin.com/
Guild Leader: Julae Eilserves
Guild Officer: Eilistraee
Recruiting: Yes
Special Requirements: Yes! We have a strict Character Creation process so that all members fit the drow-inspired theme of the guild. Located here: http://www.thom.enjin.com/cctools
I think I have over 400 hours, but I’m not sure as I wasn’t counting. I play almost everyday. And bought at a minimum of $50 worth in gems every month. And I bought my first $50 back in July during the last beta event. I haven’t bought anything this month though. So I spent over $250 if you include the game. ::sigh::
I think I have 3 or 4 pieces of level 80 exotic equipment, and that’s it. I don’t like to play one character all the time, although recently I’ve been doing a lot of farming to upgrade my gear.
Warrior: Shield as a main hand
Guardian: Hand Gun
Ranger: Rifle
Engineers: Hammer
Thieves: Whip
Necromancers: Whip
Elementalists: Short Bow
Mesmers: Whip
If they added whips to any class, I’d be playing that class in a heartbeat. I think I’d rather see whip on an elementalist over a thief, but that’s because it would fit my elementalist perfectly and I’d go back and play on her.
I think we all need to pile onto one server and make a guild(s). The game will be much more pleasant if we stick together and have like minded people to adventure with.
I acknowledge that forgoing the gear grind might also mean forgoing expansions, but that’s a tradeoff that I’m willing to make.
<—- waves violently I want that guest-system so badly
As far as I know, free server transfers are still on option. Seriously, as a community, let’s designate one server for this.
Well if you don’t mind seeing role play, Tarnished Coast(US) might be good, cause in general the people are better behaved. I don’t remember the EU unofficial RP server off the top of my head, that might be good too, but I don’t know for sure. I’ve seen people complain about griefing with certain things, that just doesn’t happen here to the same extent. I don’t do dungeons (yet), so I wouldn’t know how groups are in those places.
I don’t know if people would be willing to move though. I have an attachment to my current guild and couldn’t part with it even though it has like 3 active people. I wish the guest system was available.
To OP: things just aren’t that black and white.
Not everyone is fully liberal or conservative. Ten years ago I would have said I was a conservative, now I’m not so sure anymore. I’m split on many issues. The republican party has gone so far right, I don’t recognize it anymore. But I’m not a fan of the democratic party either.
Also you have to consider what a person values most. I volunteer at a no-kill animal shelter. And I don’t get anything out of it other then the satisfaction that I did something useful. This fills me with joy like no fun video game can. I’m currently working my way up in the animal shelter and in another week I will be given the responsibility of feeding and caring for the cats, and I can’t wait. Like in real life volunteering, I can have fun with a game that doesn’t always have a tangible reward.
I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a tangible reward, but the vertical progression reward system is not something I want to see. I do believe in hard work, myself and my husband are both college educated. But our paths in life are very different. In vertical progression, the only way you can get the top reward is by doing endgame dungeon/raiding. It is the only way, and real life has far more choices in careers then dungeon/raiding.
Hi,
Thanks for collating the AMA questions it’ll make it a lot easier to see and respond.
If I might suggest a slight re-org of the list to help players and Anet to get the most out of it. Personally I would move all questions regarding Ascended weapons, player progression and stats increases to the top of the list. For a lot of players this is the elephant in the room. Also perhaps create a new category called player progression so as to bring out these questions and give Chris chance to talk about the future of the game.
Anyway, Please consider the questions below for inclusion
•It seems the controversy over the ascended items has unfortunately swamped the news about the new content. Has the community’s reaction surprised you and has the reaction in the community given you pause?
•To many people it seems Arenanet has gone back on it’s no gear. horizontal progression promises.
Specifically they have been quoting Colin Johanson “The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
and Mike O’Brian
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games – we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
What assurances can you give them, that this is not the case and that the statements said back then still stand?
•The post by Chris Whiteside states that there was a ‘gap’ between exotic and legendary that needed to be addressed. Since the stats gap between the two is currently zero. Is there a reason for adding increased stats, rather than cosmetic/effort required to bridge the effort/time gap?
•Another common theme that this is a gear treadmill in all but name, as it includes gated content and higher than previously maximum armor and items. Would you mind outlining why these people have it all wrong?
• Will the agony mechanic be a common factor in future content, or will you introduce a new mechanic that will need new infusions to counter?
•With the increase in basic maximum stats, how will you prevent people who only log in occasionally being excluded in existing dungeons/content due to suddenly not having maxed gear?
• Will future content be balanced around exotic gear stats, or ascended gear stats in mind?• Does the amount of segregation of players, caused by requiring different levels in fractals concern you?
•Guild Wars one is still going strong after 7 years, and had 3 chapters, 1 expansion and loads of fun new content without any increase in the maximum stats of armor or weapons. Please detail why there was a move away from this clearly successful model?
•Will there be a subsequent increase in stats or new gated content in the future?
I’m not sure I could come up with better questions, as these are mostly what I was thinking. Also I agree the list needs to be re-organized. The gear and progression issues are very important to many of us.
Please make your voice heard. flood all online buying sites with comments and reviews. If you don’t like this patch, say so. If they don’t sell anything over the holidays, someone will get fired and the direction will change.
. . . you know, if the game doesn’t sell, someone may get fired. (By the way, great choice, someone does deserve to lose their career because the Internet has decreed it so.) Or it could be taken as a much more severe problem with the forums busy saying the game is dying and the company is a bunch of lying liars who lie . . . and the game is axed completely.
I am not sure I like the odds here.
Going on sites that sell GW2 and leaving bad reviews isn’t going to make the situation better. I do not want GW2 to take this new path, but Tobias has a point. Just look at what is happening to Hostess… The protests have put Hostess out of business and we will have no more twinkies. =(
A new tier of gear that you have to grind for, who the hell wants to WORK in a GAME? They’re supposed to be fun, and Anet promised there’d be no grind, that everyone will be equal in gear & it would be easy to obtain max gear.
Sigh, if this gets any worse, I’m out. I really hope not though, since I spent $2000 bucks on a new PC to play this game since I LOVED GW1.
You weren’t the only one. I even got 3d glasses with my new laptop and this game looks great in 3d.
interesting topic on the WoW forums:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/7004697373?page=1
Seems like that whole ‘bridging the gap’ bs got to some people there. I suggest posting in that topic to tell the people the truth about ascended gear. You can use your battlenet account, you don’t need to have purchased wow in order to post there.
Nice read. Sad, but nice read.
Overall, I am very disappointed with this new patch. While there have been many things which could have used more work, my biggest issue is with the lack of communication with your player base, as well as the ascended gear. I think the ascended gear problem could have been avoided with proper communication.
My degree is in graphic design, a sub category of communication arts. There is barely any communication going on here. This concept of surprising the players and only teasing them is not working and is not a good idea if you are making a massive change to the game, like a new tier of armor. I’ll make an analogy: suppose a client asks me to design a pamphlet but they request, specifically, a pink background. Throughout my design period and into production, the background remains pink. Now suppose that I decide it would be better if it were blue. Though I am a professional, to what measure would you suppose their reaction would be if I surprised them with the finished product, blue not pink, instead of having informed them or even consulted them of this design change? I will lose the client, in most cases.
If I consult them over the change instead of surprising them, the client may or may not like the change. Communication is key to relations. We, the player base, are your client. I have been supporting this game (for years before it was even released) until the announcement of this new armor tier. A good number of players believed in the manifesto posted by Arena Net. Exotics were supposed to be the maximum. Making a massive change behind our backs without consulting your valuable community of players, is disenfranchising and too abrupt. As it stands, there is no MMO with horizontal progression similar to what you had. I doubt now there ever will be (again). This is a sad day, that this game has become like every other MMO.
Guild Wars was founded on a set of precepts and overall principles of methodology. It was these principles which made Guild Wars different from, dare I say better than, other games. Straying from your own hard wrought ideals is was saddens me the most.
I will say this. I know the stress would be tremendous if I worked for your company. There is a reason why I do not work for a large design firm or company. I could not handle the stress, and I don’t know how anyone working there can deal with it. Having people unhappy with your creation is not an easy thing to deal with.

I would love this too. It is sad that we already want a legacy server though.
Was this a glitch or should I be concerned?

Thats a common glitch as far as I read on this forum. Please notice im not a 100% sure on this information but only 95%.
Ok, thanks. I was hoping this was the case.

I was just booted out of the game. I received a message saying “Incorrect Password.” In panic I forgot to take a screen shot of the message and rushed to log back in and change my password. I was able to log back in and change my password.
Should I be concerned or was it just a glitch? Everything seems fine now and I have no email notices of anyone trying to connect from a different IP address.
Should I make another new email address just for this game like my passwords?
Thanks
None of the way points I had yesterday even show up on the map today.
I’m already seeing groups looking for people with full exotics only. I have been playing since head start and I do not have full exotics. This really won’t effect me because I don’t like dungeons to begin with. Although, I had thought about doing dungeons when I ran out of the content I do like, but know it really is out of the question. I’m just disappointed in this. I would have been open to this if this tier was introduced in an expansion, but not this soon. I still haven’t finished saving up for a cultural T3 top.
Honestly though, even with as many post as we have, I think we really are in the minority. I haven’t seen anyone complain about this in the game. If anything people seem happy about it. I’m sad though.
If your +1 hour Greenwich time that sounds right. PST is -8 hours Greenwich time.
I am heavily disappointing. I thought the infused armor would work like it did in GW1. I thought it was all just a misunderstanding…. I really can’t believe this. I don’t even have level 80 exotics yet. So why should I bother working for them if they aren’t the best anymore? I thought this was a game for casuals…. The game hasn’t been out for that long….
I’d be fine with the price if once you bought the skin, it would be unlocked account wide for repeated use. I will be burnt out by the time I get a set for one character. I won’t want to do it all over again. Farming in this game is very tedious and boring.
This system existed in GW1, and still does I believe. Or something close to it.=(
I find I can’t even quest in Orr. I won’t even be farming, but I have to kill tons of zombies just to move around the map. Usually within an hour of playing there I get hit by the DR system. If all the mobs weren’t zombies, the system wouldn’t be so bad. I really don’t know why this system is in place. It hurts the players more then the bots.
Honesty, I don’t know how everyone is just plowing through all the content. I do have 2 80’s, but I haven’t finished the map, haven’t done pvp, haven’t done dungeons, haven’t gotten exotics, and the list goes on.
Maybe I’m just weird because once I get to 80 I want to try out a new class. I probably won’t even work towards exotics till I’ve played almost all the classes. Not sure if I can do a warrior. But I’m one of those people that enjoy the journey instead of the end prize. But I guess that means the game will last longer for me as long as I don’t get bored.
@Zyava When the game ends and he grows tired he disappears and instead a chest pops up and everyone is put into costume.
I just laughed at his jokes, he disappeared, noone of us was put into a costume and there was no chest after all this.
Are you sure… ?
Your instance of the Mad King must have been bugged. That is supposed to happen.
Problem is, I logged out when mad king appeared and logged back in to do it on a different character, but he wasn’t in that overflow. He does seem to appear about every hour, but it is not exact and the overflows do not match up.
I haven’t tried Mad King’s Realm yet, but now that I think about it, I haven’t seen any doors all day too. There were tons yesterday in the Fields, but none today.
You guys really messed it up, first saying wednesday then sunday…some ppl work, or have stuff to do, and missing the event because you guys are incompetent compared to GW1? big mistake…GW1, simple and fun, everyone had a chance for everything, not you guys just mess everything up, stupid….event every 3 hours like in GW1 = FUN, I played GW1 for 7 years and there was always fun in every event…now…its dumb, think about it before u guys mess stuff up within 2 months…GG
This is how I feel. I’ve been getting more bummed out each day of the event.
But if it’s about participation, you can participate in everything. If you’re mad about the time of the special event or the time in which the holiday ends, how would you fix it to please every single human on the planet able to participate? Or do you want to do away with one-time events and events that must end?
You could have bought the items off of the auction house instead of attempting the lottery.
Repeat the event every couple hours for a day?
They did that in Guild Wars 1. I’m not sure why they aren’t doing it here.
I’m sort of getting sick of the elite player arguments vs the average (casual) gamer arguments everywhere…. I can’t read any threads practicably without this happening.
I really wish that instead of arguing over something, everyone could work together to come to a solution that BOTH sides agree on. As it stands, no one is right or wrong because it is all an opinion.
They should make mmo’s that have different modes of difficulty. I’ve seen it done before in some f2p mmo; wish I remembered which one.
in GW2 as in life there are only 2 guarantees. death and gold sinks.
So sad, yet so true.
I believe Anet probably did make a killing from all this, sad to say. However, they have caused distrust among the people and unless people are stupid again, they will not be willing to risk this again, if they didn’t quit the game over this. Although I didn’t think people would spend $100+ on a chance to begin with, so who knows.
I still think the chests are a bad idea. Anet never did this kind of stuff in GW1. I never expected Anet to do something like this. I personally did not spend money on the keys. I will not support this activity. If they had the skins in the shop, then I would buy.
In the end it is not a question of entitlement or right or wrong. It is simply (from ArenaNet’s point of view) a question how many people do not like how the BLC are handled. I am one of those who don’t like it. Consequently I haven’t bought any. I only tried my BLC where I got keys for during the game. As you can imagine: without any success to speak of.
This is how I feel. I don’t really feel this whole thing was really right or wrong, nor did I see this as an issue of entitlement; but I don’t care for how the chests were handled either. I would have spent money on skins if they were offered up front. But the only thing I bought was the witch costume.
I don’t want to support GW2 by paying for a ton of keys only to not get any weapons skins. I would pay for weapon skins if it wasn’t a gamble. I’m all for supporting GW2, but not this way. I just hope these skins aren’t account bound and can be traded.
Nvm. It all of a sudden started downloading.
I can’t either.

I’m really surprised they don’t have a roll back service yet. When my GW1 was hacked, they told me they would offer that in the future too, and that was a couple of years ago. =(

The npc was in a different spot for me. If I hadn’t come across this thread, I would not have found her. She was dead and I would not have known to rez her.
I am a elementalist and the instance wouldn’t continue for me either. There was an npc that put out a healing turret and it won’t go away. Maybe it wasn’t your healing turret. I’ll try starting over. This instance is annoying.
For about 5 days now the currency exchange page on the trading post has not been loading properly. I have seen no one with this problem yet and am wondering if I’m the only one and should contact support.
Thanks
I read that once you picked an order in the game, you can’t undo it. I’m OK with that, but I’m worried that I won’t be able to get the armor sets from the other orders. I finally figured out what I wanted for my ranger, which was the Order of Whisper’s top and the Vigil pants. I’m going to be mega bummed if I can’t get both. But I would like to know before I join any group.
Also I think I made the decision on my elementalist, without knowing it may affect what armor I could get. So will I be able to get multiple sets if I want too?
Thanks.

Yea, I lost about 1 hour worth of work. Can’t say I’m happy.
Yep, can’t login.
Shouldn’t they announce this stuff through the official forums? Who in their right mind lives in Twitter or Facebook?
I hate both and hate it even more that you have to use them in today’s society.
I would really like to see some more armor skins from the original Guild Wars, especially Prophecies. I’d love to see some of the necromancer and monk tattoo armor sets. I’d also like to see the ranger exotic druid set and warrior exotic gladiator set, but honestly I could make a large list with the exotic sets.
I would totally spend money for some of those armor skins. Currently we only have two skins in the gem shop and I don’t like either enough to buy them.
Thanks for listening. =)
