Stop Making Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

@Panda:
When someone in these forums talks about “armor weight” they are NOT refering to specific materials, animation or models, but to that arbitrary separation between armor types (Heavy, Medium and Light), that Anet put in place in the first place and which we don’t know how complex or possible to change is.

I doubt there could be anyone more happy than me if Anet stop doing Outfits to invest those resources in doing more mix’n match style armor pieces. But my wishes doesn’t change the reality that the only ones with enough knowledge and involvement to determine how difficult really is to make an armor vs an outfit are Anet developers.

I highly doubt there are “alignments” in GW2 world. I think Tyria, while very maniqueistic in the surface, is way more fluid and grey than traditional old school D&D style fantasy.

Guardians can be good, bad and both, as long as they have the conviction enough to keep fighting for what they believe.

They havent seen real RP since my guild isn’t really RP oriented, but I like to imagine them as part of a larger effort from the Charr to strenghten alliances with other races within the Pact: Circe uses her ice oriented magic to provide surprise attacks or distraction operations for the Order of Whispers, while Carracido and his band have specialized themselves in the protection of squishy scholars in the Priory.

This seems like a combination of two ideas that have been lingering around quite a while.

1 – “Custom Outfits” (Basically a pre-saved combination of skins and dyes for your toon to use with one clic)
2- “Armor Racks” (Basically a rack or mannequin to show of the armor you have earned in game)

IMO, your mix of the two concepts is both interesting and elegant. Well done!

Throwing bags at dead people forcing them to insta wp to receive the drops far away or run back to get them is an ugly, inconsistent design.

Dead players should either:

- Truly receive ALL the rewards they earned while fighting, no matter their status.
- Not receive ANY reward from foes dead while they weren’t fighting.

The point for me is the consistency. Reward or not, but please stop the Shroedinger with “you get the bag, but you can’t take it”.

The Argument for Tengu/a new race

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

IMO, Anet has already devised a way to keep evolving their game mechanic and story-wise, through the elite specs and the 3-monthly chapters.

Eventually, however, mechanics and story will not be enough to keep people interested. They will need to make changes to the game technology and aesthetics.

Then will eventually have to choose how to re-impulse their bussiness: use resources to do a whole new game, or use the resources to create big aesthetic changes to GW2.

Only then the new playable races would become a valuable investment. Until then…

I think it is a great idea, Satenal: don’t try to adjust every detail with Anet, just point them what we consider worthy of our money, and direct our support directly into that.
If enough people vouches for it through the game, Anet put a team to work on that. If not, you keep your gems, and Anet is still supported.

There will be a lot of rough edges to smooth before implementing something like this, but IMO no doubt it is worth the effort.

GW1 combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

make 2 versions of the game or something , one as it is now and one with tab targeting that copies GW1 combat.
GW1 had one of the best (maybe the best combat) in mmo history along with Lineage 2 (games that you could play for hours) yet they decided to make GW2 different.

simplicity wins over complexity because mmos are not action games,
action games and those new mmos that wanna be action games are designed to spend players resources and energy and stresses you out while it had to be a relaxing yet challanging at times experience.

thats mmo games today simple things become complicated with skill point spam and everything even worst in newer games like black desert but GW2 also falls in that category.

just remove the dodge and copy GW1 combat instead of just focusing on making new expansions and let people pick which version of they wanna play.

dont even anyone say anything about your skills , skilled players where a thing before action combat plagued the games

You know… there is also people who never liked GW1 because of the boring gameplay it had. People that happily joined GW2 when they saw the amazing active combat it has.
I’m being quite subjective, I know. But I am SO glad to have at least 1 MMO (GW2) that is not a boring static heir of wow or lineage.

However, while I would love to see each legendary with their own unique skill set, I don’t think it can happen, because the balance fot them would become a nightmare for the devs, and no doubt some of them would become OP and mandatory for certain builds.

Raid-Composition, optimized for beginners

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

I mean, you can get kills with all Guardians, all Necromancers, or even stranger compositions than that. That said, for a beginner group, your composition is making it much harder for everyone than it needs to be. If you have even one player remotely competent at Chronomancer you could carry the rest of the players extremely hard on a Minstrel’s set with permanent protection uptime, distortion sharing, and ancillary healing. Heck, even swapping one ranger in each for a Guardian would be helpful because they can generate some quickness.

Thats is exactly the fact many raid groups didn’t get. You don’t do a new player any favor if you carry him though all wings. People have to learn all mechanics and that includes doging attacks. As an example with, perma protection and double magi druids, you won’t even recognize that it is not a good idea to stay in a red orb @vg or something similar. One important phase of learning is adapt after doing failiures. With this “babysitting” you would not reach that goal.

Agree. People are always too focused on the win, and not enough in the learning. Your idea is strong.

The auto is no great thing, but is not bad either, since you can use it to keep pressure and attack though objects… You shouldn’t take kits (or play Engie, really) to keep pressing 1111111 all the time (Bomb kit is just a sad mistake). All the other skills are situational, strategic, position dependant and therefore, interesting to use.

Only thing I don’t like is how they removed the burst potential from FT 2. IMO FT shouldn’t be power or condi, but a good hybrid, whit good burst in 2, good condi on napalm, and a bit of both in AA.

[Suggestions] Turrets

in Engineer

Ardid.7203

Great idea, ILobo. It is closer to what I was thinking, something that makes turrets valuable and interesting to play. Keeping all the functions under player control is a good thing for the players and for the game.

My specific suggestion, to complement:

When the turret isn’t deployed, the skill is “Deploy”.
The instant the turret is deployed, the skill becomes “Overcharge”.
The instant the turret overcharge, the skill becomes “Detonate”, until the CD for overcharge completes, when it becomes “Overcharge” again.

No matter the animation delay on Overcharge, the skill changes to Detonate immediately when activated. This way both subskills remain strategic, and the toolbelt isn’t touched.

Better before patch (multiple manual overcharges, toolkit changes to detonate)
Better now (single automatic overcharge on deploy, toolkit skill remains)

I tryed to correct the poll to be more accurate, but I think it still don’t fully reflect the vastness of the difference between the two alternatives, and it also don’t gives the possibility to simply reject both, which is what most Engie players should probably do.

To put it in exaggerated metaphor: What is better, to die from a heart attack, or to die from a cerebral attack?

@Cristalyan, I really think you are enclosing yourself in a very specific and very personal interpretation of the word “god”.

I don’t understand the concept “god” as something so narrow it can’t encompass the extremely diverse levels of power, reach and logic-bending the word “god” is quite frequently used to describe.

Lovecraft’s Chtulhu is an “old god”. Rabbit Brother is a “trickster god”. LeGuin’s old gods are basically trascendental stones… and they are rightfully gods anyway. Christianity’s god has two flavors: one old, impersonal, cruel and angry, and one new, familiar, human and kind. The greek Titans weren’t called gods, however is clear their scope and place in the myth made them gods anyway. In japan, an ancient tree, an illuminated man and a well beloved housefire can all be considered gods. Siddhartha is a well known prince turned sage, turned inmortal, turned something else: he may not have been defined originally as a god, but he is now for many of the sects that follow him.

“Godhood” only have limits within specific settings, and even then they are usually really hard to define. You are trying to apply really narrow, human rules to something defined by its supra human, unexplainable quality.
