Ardid.7203

I stand at the bottom of the Dark Reverie jumping puzzle or the one in Dry Top and rez people – mostly because I like to be there for the splat. I’ve died more than a few times that way myself.

I absolutley can’t give up on a jumping puzzle until I’ve beat it – which has lead to dizziness, queasiness and anti-social behaviour.

Just thinking about the Winter Wonderland puzzle makes me…well I’m not gonna say.

I kill every risen chicken I can find just for the explosion. Exploding undead chickens, who knew?

Events are like hypnotic magnets to me – I just can’t see the big orange circle on the mini map and not participate. This leads to erratic map completion, sudden U turns and tired legs.

I spend far too much time in the wardrobe and dye tabs.

I hate killing any of the big cats in the game. They try so hard with their stealth attack but then usually just reappear dead. Makes me sad.

I will carry a torch on my guardian even when I probably shouldn’t because I love setting myself on fire.

I have characters of all races/genders.

I laugh every time my Charr makes the coughing up a hairball sound when jumping – you Charr players know the one I mean. If I could make it make that sound on demand I’d have a new hobby.

I somehow feel compelled to watch the cut scene for every vista, every time. The developers spent so much time and effort making it it just seems wrong not to.

Fun thread!

Are we identical twins separated at birth?!!!

I also love Asura more than can be healthy.
But at the same time, I get quickly tired of that haughty male voice.

I love Engineer inmmense variety of tools and playstyles.
But at the same time, I tend to stick with the Flamethrower most of the time.

I´m addicted to running hysterically in circles with my tiny female Asura while burning random things… or just the air when there are no more enemies.

Also: press FT 1 once and immediately follow with jump and “aboutface”, repeatedly. Forever.

Crafting for Others (Ascended/Soulbound)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ardid.7203

If someone likes to craft and someone likes to get the materials, they should be able to divide the work and get ascended items toghether. I would be quite happy to make ascended for others, provided they get me the mats.

But that would go against Anet bussines model. I don’t know exactly how, but I’m sure it will be disruptive.

There’s a workaround, though. You could temporarily swap accounts. You work with their characters on the crafting, they work on yours with another thing you need. Of course, this would need a lot of trust between you… but IMO is not a “bad” thing to do. If world completion bores you, they do it while you do the crafting. If you don’t want to do the personal story again, they do it while you do the WvW achievement.

I know i’m going to do the crafting for my fiancee characters… although the compensation will surely be outside the game. :P

Thats a really good point. I do reccomend to use PvP as a way to know beforehand the spectrum of skills available for each profession, but the modes are highly different, so yes, dont think what you try on PvP will work the same on PvE.

So basically the only way to stop a Thief’s backstab is knowing beforehand there is a Thief and being able to anticipate his moves with divination or telepathy. Or you can accept him backstabing you in the first place and then hope to get lucky with his second try. Maybe he will not chase you! Good to know!

Is flamethrower still a troll build?

Ardid.7203

I love FT.

Its one of the most fun to use set of skills in the entire game, at least for me. You can’t be still when using it, you need to run, jump and adjust yourself to hit the most targets you can second by second, and the multiple hits of the jet helps to activate critical effects every time. You can use obstacles to hit your target while being out of reach, you can push them exactly where you want them to be, and the blind helps when you skrew things up.

It requires a lot of work compared to most “efficient” builds, but it is also way more rewarding, IMO.

Only real problem is retaliation being too strong. But for that you have other kits and good old shotgu.. I mean, rifle.

I never use bombs. They are really good in paper… but sooo boring in play.

How to learn if you enjoy a class?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ardid.7203

If you are just at level 50, you are not getting all the content you could. Its hard to really know if you like a class until you reach its full potential: I reccomend to test them all in sPvP, just to test all the skills and weapons, and then just pick that class that you feel more comfortable with.

That one, level it to 80 just playing. What means “just playing”? Simple: run across the map and do anything that comes up. If you get bored at ANY point, do something else. Explore the map, kill things, complete hearts, dance to some cows, do dungeons, whatever. Complete your personal history, do a few Jumping Puzzles, collect all the POIs. Just PLAY.

If PvE becomes too easy, switch to WvW: follow the zerg, fight to get the vistas. Or switch back to PvP and became good at it. Just PLAY.

If, after that, you are not in the mood to fight anything, then CRAFT. Use a guide, if you must, and look how your experience rises.

You will not even notice when you get to 80. Only thing to take on account is to change armor and weapons every 10 levels or so… wich will be really easy if you simply PLAY.

TLDR: the best way to learn if you enjoy a game is to play it. Same goes for classes, races and modes.

New weapons for heart of thorns expansion

IF they were to include new weapons with HoT (Wich they will NOT) I would prefer something that is not similar to things that are already present in the game. I mean, something REALLY different.

I like spears and polearms in general, but I don’t see them as a great addition. They are just another standard melee weapon.

I would rather like to see a chain weapon, like the Meteor Hammer and the Kusarigama; or a true throwing weapon like the Boomerang or the Kpinga.

Anyway… its not going to happen.

But I do feel cheated every time I open the final chest. Some JP take good 20 minutes to do, yet you get way more prices by killing a boss with the zerg, wich take less than 3.

Skipping Stones is way more challenge than killing the Karka Queen! Please give better rewards for ending the puzzles to those players that actually do the jumping. (I don’t mind getting blues for mesmer pity, but I want more for actually uncovering the maze)

It’s not like the game showers me with Superior runes/sigils and the major runes and sigils can be sold very easily on the TP.

I always do this… but it takes hours. The ones that will not be sold at TP are too many, and you have to separate them to sell to a trader… The whole process is quite slow and stupid.

Maybe ANet could simply let you sell them on bulk, separating the ones that go to TP and the ones that should sell at NPC vendor automatically?

Character Creation Options You Want

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

People have already said most of what we really need in Character Creation.
My personal selection:
- At least 5 voices to select.
I know it’s difficult, but it is a real need. EVERYONE IN THE GAME SOUNDS THE SAME. At the bare minimum, add 2 voices more and a pitch slider. If it is so expensive, fine, charge for it. Im willing to pay as much as for a new slot, because having a new voice is as relevant as having a new character althogether. If USA standards are too expensive, you can use voice actors from other countries, even latin ones (Or is there a problem to have different accents?).

- Different ages, different ethnicities, different attitudes.
Older, asian or african, hardened or damaged faces. MORE NOSES, MORE CHINS, MORE LIPS. More Asura ears couldn’t harm it either. Fat, hunched and just older looking bodies are a must too.

What Legendaries Are You Hoping For?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Legendaries took such an amount of dedication and time that I really can’t understand how can they be so poorly conceived. Their design are not so bad, but “not so bad” is NOT what a LEGENDARY should be. Considering they are, after all, the top, most difficult and challenging gear to get in the game, I found their functionality lacking too.

A True Legendary Weapon should:

- Have a superb, finely detailed and tastefull appearance (Aka, great design).

- Have a superb, finely detailed and epic in-game story (Aka, great lore).

- Have a superb, strong and well thought “theme”, flexible enough to match diverse player tastes. (Aka, great wardrobe compatibility)

- Have a superb, notable yet not game breaking, unique mechanic superior to other means available. (Aka, great gameplay) (Examples: non battle speed boost, non battle jump boost or non battle fall damage reduction, the ability to mine, cut logs or forage faster, the chance to get specific extra loot from nodes or drops, special extra skills that allows you to detect specific materials, countdown for specific bosses spawning while in-game, etc) Even the inclusion of a new elite skill unique for each Legendary should be adequate, IMO.

- Have 5 separated and carefully adjusted 3D models to match every one of the 5 playable races. (No more clippings)
They should also have a consistent size: legendaries of Norn origin should look big on human hands and oversized on Asura toons, while legendaries of Asura origin should be more proportionate to asuran standards than to the bigger races.
The 3D models have to look good on every race while taking account of the change in the proportions.

- Have selectable color areas like armor, AND offer their own, unique set of dyes that you can’t acquire anywere else. This way, you can adjust the weapon to your prefered look, or adjust your toon to “match the legend”.

- Have more alternatives for each weapon type. At least 3: one epic, one gritty, one fun. All of them should have the same amount of dedicated and well written lore.
Joke weapons are good for me as long as they are not the only alternatives, and as long as they have great lore imbued to them. (Quip can be a pistol enchanted by the Mad King, The Moot could be an artifact from the same guy that make the mechanic orchestra in Divinitys Reach, etc.)

TLDR
1- Learn to read. Is good for you.
2- Legendaries as they are now are worthless and poorly implemented. Make them better, aestetic and gameplay wise. Add variety, add flexibility, add lore, add mechanics.

Keep the final chest accesible via portals, but add a bonus chest for those who complete the JP the proper way. Milestone mechanic should work.

Cleanup of Orr. (Not what you think...)

The world must change. If Anet can create a separate instance for the old Orr, great. If they can’t, then let the content be lost. We will win more than we lose anyway.

I think the very notion of “permanent content” is flawed: We don’t need “permanent” content. We need “engaging”, “fun” and “challenging” content. Orr isn’t any of these three anymore.

Revenant Starting Area [Possible Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Another possible solution that I think hasn’t been mentioned is the personal story becoming a set of memories, like what we do with the seeds and Caithe.

This would allow Rytlock to be the very first Revenant to ever be and leave the mists, will not need timey wimey stuff to make sense, would allow the Revenants as a whole to have a significant role in the ACTUAL events happening in Maguuma now, and will maintain the relevance of your character as the one big protagonic commander of the Pact.

However, this would mean an impact in the payability of the journal so far, because you’ll have to play the old chapters as your FORMER profession, with limited personalization.

It would work like this:

1- On character creation, you choose wich was your profession BEFORE becoming Revenant.
2- Your first (brief and unique) mission will be following Rytlock instructions to mystically become a level one Revenant.
3- You will level your revenant in the open world normally.
4- Your personal history will require you to visit several places that were significant to you during your prevous journey. (To say goodbye to your old life, maybe?)
4- Once you enter the instances, you will receive skills and gear equivalent to what you have in the open world, but appropiate for your old profession.
5- Your personal story will end with the episode where you meet the New Rytlock and decide to become a Revenant.
6- Story instances after HoT will behave normally, letting you play as a Revenant.

I know it sounds unnecesarily complex, but somehow I like it better than breaking time and space rules. It will also be easier for Arena net to implement than a true new personal path.

Revenant Starting Area [Possible Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Intro Cinematic I am a Revenant. I was trapped in the Mysts for a very long time, until I met a Charr adventurer. Together, we learned how to harness the powers of the Mysts, until we found our way out. But we were thrust into different points in time, ‘cause Mysts. And now I’m somehow defending Shaemoor against an Earth Elemental.

Tadaaaaaaa. ~ Introducing the Deus ex Machina that is the Mysts’ concept (or lack thereof) of time.

I’d bet fifty cents on it.

No doubt this is the strongest and most elegant solution right now (timey wimey and all, it is still good), but it WILL be awkward every time your character crosses paths with Rytlock during the personal story. Like:

“Hello Rytlock, you know, I’m the first revenant you met, yet i know you already, because you teach me in the mists… Sooo, if you drop a sword into a magical portal don’t be afraid to leap after it… you will only lose your eyes, nothing relevant. What? No, seriously, we revenants admire your future self so much, you are great, trust me. Blindness suits you perfectly…

Ok, I’ll better close my trap. What were we talking about? Yeah, hammers that look like polearms…"

It doesn’t sound so bad, really, just a little twisted.

What's some new Skills you want in HoT

in Engineer

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Grappling Gun gadget:

Hit it once, and it releases a hook atached to a wire that you can control by rotating your toon. This hook does very little damage but pierces, so you can maximize the effect by making good use of the trajectory. (You could even hit the same target two or three times if you have the oportunity).

Hit it again, or wait until the wire reach its limit (500 when in straight line I think its good), and the hook clasps to the current target, or, if there isn’t one close enough, any object like a tree, wall, rock, etc. The target receives moderate damage, and the wire becomes tense between that point and the engie. (With traits, you can make this wire to electrify, cripple or something like that). This state can maintain itself indefinitely, even if the engie is damaged.

Hit it for the third time, and the wire retracts suddenly, pulling the target towards the engie or, if the target is an inmobile object or has stability, launching the engie through the air against the objective.

Hit it one last time just before contact with the target, and the engie does a more damaging attack, like a headbutt against an incoming enemy, o a jumping kick when the one moving is the engie.

If the engie or its objective receive any CC while tied, the CC affect both. If the engie or its objetive have stability (or the target is an inmobile object, or a big boss), then the effect varies according to common sense: an engie tied to a rock who is feared will not advance while running away from the hook, an engie tied to the Karka Queen will be dragged around, etc. An engie who applies Overcharged Shot against a tied foe will fall to the ground, but without moving backwards.

Unlike Jumping shot, the hook can be used upwards. (Yes, I want to better move around in the maguuma heart …)

Heart of Thorns Wish List:

Ardid.7203

I see a lot of good ideas in this thread…
What I wish…

- Something New. Tengus and a new heavy-armored profession sound great, but as long as there is any new, relevant content, I’ll be happy. New weapons look fun also.

- Selectable weapon skills would be just too good, but better, more diverse and interesting elite skills are a must. Come on.

- 10 to 25 people squads, and squad content. Squad roaming supported and encouraged in WvW, Raids focused on 2-5 partys, etc.

- Weapon dyes. Back-item dyes. Make them expensive, if you want, but make them possible.

- Solve the engie hobosack problem. Make them replaceable with floating icons, add a new kind of back-item skin, make them dyeable, wathever.

- Justice for the Asuran and Charr wardrobe:
a) Access to the female armor skins.
b) As many hairstyles as humans.
c) In the name od the Eternal Alchemy, FIX THE ASURA BOOTS!! Just add toes to all closed shoes, like the ascalonian mid ones, or at least hide the claws clipping through.

- The ability to select your character voice at creation and to change it later. I’m willing to pay if needed. I’m just tired of hearing all the characters speaking with the same voices.

- Many, many more emotes, and a quicker/easier way to execute them. Maybe just a bunch of icons on top of the chat box. More dances, more threats, more cuteness and fierceness in the repertoire.

- Sitting on chairs, with the feet on the floor (Not just “over the chair”) . Overall more and better idle and social animations.

They should have compensated Juggernaut somehow. Maybe adding a little duration to the stacks? Applying a bigger nerf to FT than to nades and bombs doesn’t make sense, IMO.

Scarlet's Experiments: Leading to a New Race?

Well… after all, Scarlet DID create a whole new race of sentient beings.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just play the 2014 July1 Living Story and wait in the house until Taimi activate the Scarlet Hologram.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

The holo is a diary, where Scarlet tells how she used a mix of technologies to create steam robots to use as explorers through portals into a paralel dimension.

She eventually used the portal herself to “see” the Eternal Alchemy, but by that time the steam robots had already begun to replicate and evlove themselves.

She didn’t gave a crap about it, but for us it means the steam creatures can still visit Tyria again, probably as a threat.

However, the fact that this autonomous machines can reproduce themselves also open the possibility of totally new types of steam creatures, including “comunicative” ones. I can too easily imagine a playable steam race.

Female LOVE!

Ardid.7203

Forced gender diversity has NEVER been a good practice in the gaming industry.
Female characters that can’t wear “male clothes”(aka, more covering clothes) and always have to be almost naked ARE sexist, and wrong.

What we have here is the complete oposite: the imposibility to use cute or delicate, or even skimpy clothes on some chars. This is wrong TOO.

But, the solution isn’t to make the female versions of armor more “femenine”. That is going back to the first problem. What Arena Net have to do is to add are new wearable items more “cute”, “delicate” or “skimpy”, wich people could use, no matter the gender of their char.

Female asura are a little tomboyish… but I don’t see anything wrong with that. They are tough girls, bookah!.

Those are the skins I use on my asura. I like to see her razorsharp toes, but I don’t know if I will prefer to not see their boots at all…
I think it’s fair to ask ANet for a better polish on the clothing models (not only shoes) for the asura. Even Charr clothes receive more love, with those slits for their claws and other finer details.

Opinion on engie grandmaster traits?

It still forces you to use turrets. Doesn’t help FT or Elixir builds that typically trait 30 on Alchemy… of course, most of us already use the Crate Supply.

Quickness from FT airblast sounds good on paper, but wich traits would you pick from the Explosives line that synergize with your FT? Juggernaut usually means you stay on FT as long as you can…

I have not seen this before, but now, I’m mostly… dissapointed.

http://www.guildmag.com/new-grandmaster-traits-revealed/

I run a FT build and don’t see any of this new traits being useful to me. Firearms gives you an explosive, and Alchemy requires you to use a turret, so no one have any sinergy with my playstyle. They seems to be encouraging Nades and Turret builds over all…

What’s your opinion?

On the other hand, I am Pro-megaserver for the simple reason that I have been on a low-pop server during these living story events and I have seen them struggle to get enough people to do the marrionette or defeat the knights….and it is extremely frustrating…moreso by the immense amounts of loot that the high-pop servers get from these events, which drives up the economy making it even more impossible for low-pop server people to get ahead in the game.

But part of that has to do with the mechanics that were coded into these fights. I find it rediculous that a game that was hyped as having scaling for all events continues to implement fights that have no scaling whatsoever, making it impossible for the low-pop servers to do these things…which forces them to guest…which frustrates the high-pop servers…

Simple solution would have been re-introducing scaling and working on making it work properly.

This is probably the wisest post I have read here so far.

If A-net want to make the play experience more seamless and in-game focused, I think they should completely get rid of the “servers”. That very definition just make things more confusing.

Instead, they should create a few “mega-guilds”, to wich each character HAVE to belong, with their own chat channel, and with their own “civic center” (mega-guild halls, or city map, if you like), and wich make up the factions on the Mist war. At least one of these “mega-guilds” should be officially dedicated to RP.

Its close to the “home world” idea, with the big exception it doesn’t have an specific piece of hardware, time zone or a complete map of Tyria associated with it, and that it DO show more sense of belonging for each character.

Then you can use the megaserver algorithm, giving the mega-guild the first priority, then the rest, with the bosses schedule adjustable by mega-guild consensus. You will have a more logical and user-friendly approuch to the situation.

Sure, jumping mega-guilds to exploit resources will be more difficult than jumping worlds… but I think that issue should be answered with a better distribution of resources, not with a meta game trick. And you can have chars on different mega-guilds, if you like so much having that kind of control.
