that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
I think they did change It, because when we tried with my group, there were some of them in the ledge, and the sand walls hit everywhere.
I must say the last time I did it with a group we weren’t trying to get the evasion achievement, we were focused trying to kill the guy in hard mode, and I take Caithe because I was the one more familiar with her skills.
The fight went more or less like this:
- The five of us distributed across the arena, some close to burst the boss, some far to lure the elementals.
- We kill the first elemental and barely hit Windmane before he become invulnerable again. No people get damaged.
- We kill the second elemental and barely hit Windmane before he become invulnerable again. No people get damaged.
- We kill the third and fourth elemental and barely hit Windmane before he become invulnerable. Some people get scratched.
- We kill the fifth elemental.
- Everybody dead.
We tried 3 times. No chance: after Windmane got his life halved, damage suddenly spiked everywhere. I survived like 15 extra seconds the last try, just to die from a whirlpool that appeared at my feet without any warning.
Maybe there is a bug or something? It really felt too abrupt to be intended.
The only thing I really can’t beat is Windmane. I have done almost all the other stuff for the luminescent thing. But not Windmane.
I have watched the videos, I have read the guides, and I have made group with friends and PUGs. I still can’t defeat him in the hard mode, or avoid all of his area stuff (Also I HATE PLAYING WITH KITTEN CAITHE).
Any advice?
Not anymore, it seems.
Fireforged trigger and Deadly Mixture are the ones I miss the most. Now I’m forced to a full burning build to make the FT useful.
They should make them obtainable backs. NEVER return them to be FORCED like before, but they should be an option.
You dont need stability if you know how to dodge. That’s why I dont see the point of the new Jugg.
I would love to have a few command lines my character could shout in the middle of the combat without having to stop to type.
Field mechanics aren’t the only area that would benefit from this: everything from skipping to concentrate damage, area denial and even coordinate activation of buttons would be better with in-game audio signals.
More than a new fixed Legend focused on damage, what the Revenant need is more utility skills to choose and mix. At least 2 more for every legend, ideally 10 “not legend exclusive” ones.
And the whole game making more important/rewarding the supportive builds.
I do hope Shiro is interesting to play… but I just don’t see how a DPS Legend would help making the Revenant better: Even if Shiro is good, without making the supportive Legends more needed and effective, all we will get is a boring, shallow and endless amount of Shiros doing the same over and over and over…
I like your ideas, FrostSpectre.
Foes need to dodge more often, use a variety of conditions and boons, try to regroup and use escape skills instead of becoming suddenly invulnerable. In short, mobs need to behave a little more like players.
IMO, better and stronger use of conditions, boons and evasion would be not only good to keep people on their toes while playing, but also a great way to prepare PvErs for the true challenge that PvP is.
The “too easy” and “too crowd focused” style of PvE right now is making PvP and PvE too appart one from the other. I think the players and Anet would win a lot if the two modes were closer: more people participating in both modes, a stronger community, more similar systems and estrategies.
Of course, since PvP is the more challenging mode, I think PvE needs to step up to reduce the gap.
IMO it should be better if weapons have a stable size.
Its only natural for a Norn to use human swords like they were knives, and for an Asura to look tiny in comparison with his human greatsword…
At least projectiles should have a fixed aspect. Currently, flamethrowers on Asura and Charr are deceiving in their range because of this. Not nice at all.
There’s something bugging me since the first time I read about it.
To the people who buy the game through retail stores: Why did you do that? I mean no offense at all, I just want to understand why someone would prefer to buy a product through a third party (Something I tend to avoid every single time I can).
AFAIK, this is Anet’s way to deal with the excessive stacking…
Agree. The flame size should remain stable.
Windmane. >:(
Honestly, I only need to keep saying what I have been saying for the last months: Give builds without Grenade Kit at their center a better treatment. Boost FT, support gadgets, stop puting the best DPS alternatives on the same trait line.
Engie =/= Grenades. <— Make this true.
This looks really promising. I’ll prove it as soon as I can. I really love FT, but my builds were totally destroyed with the new trait system.
Burn should have a different property than bleed, I agree.
Maybe burn could do more damage if you don’t move, or something like that.
Well.. religion sure IS a lifestile choice. So you do choose to be offended.
Beautiful thread. I love to see bigots trampling in their own foot.
Old icon was better in all aspects. I think they should just keep the old one and give it the new name.
Videogames are slowly being recognized as a form of "art"*. One of the main functions of “art” in society is to recognize, propose and guide social change. One of the hardest responsibilities of any creator is to do this work in spite of conservative pressure, economical stress or personal risk. One of the common effects of this creation without fear is heated controversy.
GOOD “ART” MAKES PEOPLE DEBATE.
Excellent work with this, GW2 creators, you are doing great.
*Note: the word “art” is an awful, misleading, overused and abused word. I’m using it here because using concepts like “Beauty”, “Aethetic Experience”, “Symbolic Communication” or something like that would be even more misleading. Sorry.
Is there any razonable way to combine FT and Speedy Kits with the new system?
WHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT!!!!
THIS IS EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m going to be a Quaggan all day now…
RNG. Don’t do it.
Oh, come on, give us the FT buffs as baseline already. Even when traited its not competitive right now!
How is boon duration going to work now?
Rifle is’t ranged, anyway.
I’ll miss my FT multi condi hybrid 4 trait lines engie SOOO MUCH. At least she had a good, happy and maniacal life.
Physical Edition =/= Collectors Edition
The previous problem was there wasn’t ANY compensation for having the game already. Now you WILL have an extra char slot, no matter wich edition of the pre-purchase you get. There’s the 10 bucks people were “complaining” about, so there dies the right to keep complainig.
Misleading communication —> Anet didn’t exactly apologize, but they do recognized the error, and offered a viable solution for the people that bought the core game in the fatal time window. Now that bussines talk have been cleared, we can continue with transparency.
Veteran appreciation —> They do include a useful and meanignful item to repair the perceived (and real) unfairness of treatment between vets and noobs, with an added thank you.
Value vs Content —> They are effectively pricing the Xpac at 40 bucks now (xpac + slot = 50). I think its their right to put whatever price they believe appropiate for the xpac, as is our right to buy it or not. Each of us will have to judge now.
Non disclosed info —> As with any pre-purchase or pre-order for any product, you’ll have to hope and be patient. Or not. But if not, it’s not Anet problem anymore.
Trust —> I think they could have easily just let the things cool down and then keep the “strictly corporative”, abusive and shady attitude forever. While they were slow, in the end they did the right thing.
So, personally, I’m stoping my complains and putting my trust on them again. Never as carefree as before, but still.
Ok, finally Anet answers, and does it in a reasonable and honest way. You were a bit slow, but you did the right thing, so, get my respect.
I’ll support the company again now, and yes, I’ll consider purchasing some of the pre-purchase versions.
I used 4 criteria to make my chars.
1- Profession. I’m not an alt collector, so I decided i will only make 1 character for each profession. Right now, they are planned to be 9.
2&3- Race and sex. I think variety is better than monotony, so I decided to make 2 characters with different sex for each race. The total is 10, but I’m waiting fo a new proffesion to be added later, so it doesn’t matter right now.
4- Armor Type. Since heavy, medium and light armor looks different depending on sex and race, I don’t want to repear armor types for my character if I can avoid it, and hope to have the armor type I like more in the race and sex character I like more. So I looked very carefully at how much the armor varies and try to avoid to repeat the same armor type for those races that use only male armor (there was a moment were both of my Charr chars were using light armor, and the variety was suffering, so I choose to change one of them into heavy).
Right now, my selection is:
1- Engie Asura Female
2- Ranger Norn Female
3- Thief Sylvari Male
4- Ele Charr Female
5- Necro Human Male
6- Guardian Asura Male
7- Sylvari Mesmer Female
8- Warrior Charr Male
9- Soon to be Revenant Human Female.
Norn Male have to wait because is the least interesting for me right now.
I’m going to be able to change my Teq Staff to something useful!!!
I like the article on Massively. I think it really covers most of the relevant points with a good, rational yet not numb tone.
http://massivelyop.com/2015/06/18/why-guild-wars-2s-prepurchase-deal-has-the-internet-raging/
I was looking through Streamlined Kits and the effective loss of swiftness uptime there was an unintended consequence of Kit Refinement being packed together with Speedy Kits. I’ve gone ahead and changed the swiftness from Streamlined Kits to a 20s duration.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou so much. You are now my favorite person in Anet.
I think the medium diff ones could be a great addition to the daily queue.
And I would really apreciate if Anet somehow raised the reward for doing them. Some are really long or difficult, and only gives you a couple of things you could obtain killing an easy boss just hitting 1. I want a title for completing them all!
Just tell me fireforged trigger is baseline so I can rest a bit…
IMO the only problem Anet could see is possible accusations of false advertising. I don’t know the legal context involved al all, but somehow I doubt there will be any real legal issue, unless some group of customers gets angry enough to organize and invest money to support their claims. Aside from that, the only major damage is going to be Anet credibility.
I’m just waiting in my full skeptic armor now.
There are a few lines were they declare that something has been converted to baseline… and none of them were for Fireforged or Mixture. I strongly doubt Jugg keeps the thoughness. If they don’t mention it there’s a reason. I even would not be surprised if Juggernaut is not associated to FT anymore.
I believe they are trying to make weapons more relevant than kits… so they are nerfing any kit that you tend to stay on.
This is utterly misleading.
You should NOT try to clasify te discussion going in the forums as “negative” and “positive”, like those were the only possible POVs. That is a falacy, and is wrong. Also don’t talk about minorities and majorities. We don’t have the data to make such claims, for a side or the other.
What do we know?
It is clear that Anet has failed in delivering the correct message here. They need to recover the trust from their customers. I think no one could deny that.
We also know HoT will be adding a lot of completely new content, not only in the “fluff” area, but also in the “crunch”: not only maps, cinematics and foes, but also new gameplay mechanics and modes. This is also undeniable.
So, there is no correct and wrong. Both “sides” have a solid truth at the core of their convictions.
That said I WILL buy the pre-purchase because the game is great, and the new content promoted DO look fun and beautiful, and I think Anet deserves my money for their fantastic work.
I will ALSO support the claim from veterans about getting something to compensate the breach of trust that have grown during the last months between Anet and their customers.
I think we ALL should do BOTH.
(edited by Ardid.7203)
The problem is not the content or the price. The problem is trust.
Should Anet say the expansion costs 80 bucks, that could be overpriced, but is a fair offer. You can take it or not, but is clear and honest.
But if Anet says HoT will be just a expansion and then includes the core game into the price ONLY FOR A GROUP (Converting HoT in a boosted version of the core game, not just an expansion), after inducing a lot of people to get the core game alone through offers and promises… its false advertising. And that’s even legally punishable.
It seems you can preorder… now…
I know Engie as a proff looks well right now… but Flamethrower and OOC permaswiftness were the most important pieces of my build…
I think they do ruined most of the non-typical builds for most of the proffessions.
And what about FT? I think nades are very well when you compare both.
Mesmers & Thiefs abuse Stealth. Stealth stops being fun.
Engies abuse Lock On. Stealth AND Lock On stop being fun.
Stealth stop being used.
Lock on stop being used.
Repeat.
Cycle stablished: abuse→no use→abuse→no use→Ad infinitum.
Fun: lost forever.
Countering an abusive mechanic with another abusive, specific mechanic is simply stupid.
>Old Juggernaut is kinda back
>Incendiary Powder trait merge
>they’re both grandmasterCome on, ANet, that’s a kitten move.
And no sight of Deadly Mixture or Fireforged Trigger anywhere…
At this moment, I don’t see any way to make a functional Flamethrower build anymore.
They destroyed Speedy Kits + Invigorating Speed synergy AND nerfed vigor HARD. Then they took away the Toughness from Juggernaut. How is a FT Engie going to survive in the front line without extra thoughess or a few dodges?
If Deadly Mixture and Fireforged Trigger are not being merged into baseline… then the FT will not only be squishy, it will be even doing even less damage than now. And no, I don’t think winning brainless stability compensates it. Today is already indispensable to use might stacking to get some damage.
FT users will be forced to use defensive gear just to survive while doing crap damage? How is that “preserving builds”?

I don’t think I saw that sticky :S . It isn’t there anymore?

My favorite build is already going to be destroyed, but, IF it’s true that with my 50 leveling I can unlock all the skills, I’m relieved. Not having the gold invested in traits refunded is still unfair, but in my specific case, is something I can deal with.
Good luck with the Hero Point chase.

I have 4 alts at lvl 50 or so, with less than 10 skill challenges done, with only the minimum traits unlocked to make them work, but with all the skills unlocked.
Easy question:
When the patch comes live…
1- Will I have to re-earn the skills I have already unlocked?
Please answer yes or no.
2- Will I get any compensation for the gold I invested to get the traits?
Please answer yes or no.
3- Will I receive any compensation for the time I invested earning the skill points I used to unlock all the skills?
Please answer yes or no.
I totally agree with the 11th racial slot idea. More things to do, that are minor yet highly aesthetic and strictly lore-related: would make everything funnier and the whole game more inmersive. Its a win from every point of view.
