Creative, original and meticulous people dont buy enough. They tend to use what they have at hand and adjust every detail on it to make things exactly like they want. A lot of them are never satisfied, but even that doesn’t send them into buying more.

So you have to sell to the happy credit card ones, offering quick, easy and not too complicated products. You will be selling to those who find things they like here and there, buy that and this, and then find another pretty thing over there and buy again.

It make sense.

All I hope is they don’t completelly stop making new armor sets. Because they could…

Paying for RNG, efectivelly, IS unfair. Don’t do it. The house always win. Using it to “evenly” distribute free stuff is ok, though.

Rewarding the most supporting and commited players, on the other hand, is more than fair, IMO. Is polite. People that spend the most time and those that spend the most money in the game deserve some love from the house. Its called “to reward loyalty”, and its a fairly common and well famed practice.

If you have some really good customers, why not let them know they are appreciated?

Of course, I would not enter in any of those two groups. Sadly.

I just make this one. It feels very… incoherent. It has things I never think to use, lots of choices I would have rather avoided, “themes” I have no interest in…

No doubt it could work, but I really think FT+Static Discharge+Kit Refinement is sort of a Frankenstein monster. It looks fun, just not “streamlined” at all.

Today, 9 might stacks is what I get by standing idle in FT. With blasts and combos and work I can go up to 16 most of the time. Even so, my damage on FT never get even close to the most simple of grenadier meta. The problem is I don’t like nades or bombs. I like FT.

If the change proposed can make both extremes closer, then I’ll support it, totally. More builds being valid choices only could be good. The point is, is this what is going to happen?

Will the traits change offer more “justice” for less standard playstyles? or will it only standarize a few meta while burying the subpar playstyles forever? That’s the point, IMO, and the reason I’m somewhat gloomy.

I supose we just have to wait. As Jerus kindly point, i’m not helping anyone by being defeatist, even if I feel deeply inside that this is going down the toilet. I TRULY HOPE I’M WRONG.

Sunds legit, but without might stacking (actual juggernaut+runes) I doubt it would be able to do even half of the already weak damage done today. It’ll also lose the second condition (bleed) used to lower the impact of condi cleanses.

Is HoT Destroying Build Diversity?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Comparing it to 6/6/2 is unfair, because the main complain is the lost of the 4 lines builds. I think the combinatory is much much much more inclined towards the actual mechanic. So YES, you are losing much more POSSIBLE combinations.

The key concept here is that POSSIBLE doesn’t mean VIABLE. (Viable as builds that are fun, useful or interesting to play, even if they are not optimal). Most builds you could make actually are not viable. They are just crap.

So.
“Is HoT Destroying Build Diversity?”
The answer doesn’t have to do with quantity as much as it has to do with quality.

If the new system make viable more and different builds, then the answer should be a solid NO, as it will actually IMPROVE the build diversity.

If the new system just destroys the old not so meta builds (Like the sustained clones for mesmer or the FT engie) offering nothing in exchange the answer will be a sad YES.

Right now, IMO, it looks more close to the second case. I don’t see how Anet can add diversity when they are vanishing interesting and fun builds and forcing people to play only in predetermined ways. I hope I’m wrong (Like I was about the hobosacks), but somehow i don’t think I am.

I feel there will be 2 or three common builds for each profession, that will be very balanced and truly different. Every other idea will be pure steaming crap, and in the end you will see even less diversity than today.

Locked into lines we don't want?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

This looks worst the more I think about it.

My favorite Engie uses 4 trait lines. One of them is for Speedy Kits only, because that trait is just too god not to have it, and synergizes with the res of the build, but I can change it to take Explosive Descent whenever I need to.

I just take 1 trait and change it for another 1. 1 for 1. Simple, quick and easy. That was the purpose of making the system flexible and changeable on the go, am I right?

Well, now I can’t change just 1 for 1 trait. Now is 3 for 3. Always. Just to get the descent bonus and don’t die in that specific jump.

WTF.

Why not Core Elite Spec?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Thats the big question. Will the new “elite” lines be better than the actual ones? Since they aren’t added to the actual trait line selection (3 core plus 1 elite) but chosen INSTEAD the actual trait lines (2 core plus 1 elite or 1 core plus 2 elite) they shouldn’t be… but everything I read or listen from the developers make me think otherwise. The elite lines sound superior. They even have extra weapons…

I’m afraid a lot of us will see the need to switch to the new elites just to be on par with the other players.

And that isn’t good. Elites should be additions, not replacements.

I hope to be wrong, but…

I just want to know how do I make a minimally viable Flamethrower build now.

I used to run battle sigil to keep a decent might stack up. They nerfed battle sigil.
I used to wear hoelbrak runes to keep might for more time. They nerfed might.
I used deadly mixture to improve the poor FT damage. Now deadly mixture is going to dissapear.
I comboed speedy kits and invigorating speed to boost my evasion, because they were cheap and I like the style of run, dodge and burn. Now to combo them I’m forced to choose multiple traits that are useless for my FT.
I used juggernaut to have at least some survavility, because FT is a melee weapon; and Incendiary Powder because flame jet multiple chances of crit would then compensate the overall weak damage of the kit. Now I’m going to lose one of them.

If the problem is the abuse of other, much more powerful kits, WHY ANET KEEP NERFING SECONDARY BUILDS?

Maybe I’m wrong, and they are going to create much better options for FT builds, but I really doubt it. I dont ask to have the more efficient build in the game, or for the FT to become meta. I simply want to run around and set things on fire with a decent balance of damage and survivability. Please stop destroying my FT play.

[PvE] Looking for "special" build ideas

in Engineer

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

For PVE I run a build that uses FT, Nades and Elixir Gun/Elixir B.

But I usually stay on FT (juggernaut ftw) and only use nades for the chill and the toolbelt skill, so you can change it.

For example: you can run FT, Elixir Gun and Elixir B.
You stay on FT most of the time, use Elixir Gun and Pistol for tricks and scapes, and Elixir B for spiking damage.
When available, take Fireforged Trigger, Juggernaut, Fast Acting Elixirs and Deadly Mixture, as those traits will improve and sinergyze FT, Elixir Gun and Elixirs. Firearms Line will improve your condition damage while Alchemy will aid you to sustain the Might from Juggernaut longer.
Of course, things will change as you gain levels, but if youreally like this kind of play (I do) you could try Celestial gear, that will give you a somewath balanced boon to Power, Condi Damage and survivality.

Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ardid.7203

I don’t like mounts as other game implement them. I like the broom, the carpet and the drill, though. IMO, if you want mounts for visuals, they are there, just slowly appearing.

If you want mounts for easy permaswiftness, then, no. To manage your speed is a part of the game, not a convenience. Knowing how to not fall behing the zerg is part of WvW, investing in swiftness trait points you could have used for dps is part of the game. Exploring and travel are part of the game.

I think mounts should only be allowed to players that are willing to accept the gameplay cost: they can have speed mounts only if they already use a build that grants them permaswiftness. You don’t like it? Then you dont want a mount. You want unbalanced advantage.

However, I noticed that it can look pretty awesome when standing straight, for example when taking aim with gun. This would be awesome default stance for charr.

COME ON! I rolled a BEAT, race that is winning wars! Not SKIRT OR RAT!!!!

Please do something about it.

Thank you.

What you were trying to say was that something in the Charr posture doesn’t appeal to YOU. Since that is only a subjective opinion, I will answer with my own: Charr look kitten the way they are, and I love how original and fun and temible is to see a pack of armored predators charging against their foes in all fours. Its GREAT.

Also, I think their design is far more interesting, well planned and believable than any other “furry” MMO race out there.

BUT I don’t want the “only zerker meta” either. That is garbage too.

GW2 doesn’t promised simpley to “not have a trinity”. They promised we could play as we want. What I want is to have a huge amount of viable build alternatives for each profession, a respectable use for each type of gear, and lots of opportunities to use my favorite skills without being utterly sub-par and detrimental for my party.

Kitten trinity, kitten zerker.

I want to make a full Condition Damage build that shine in dungeons, a Flamethrower build that is competitive in PvP, a full Healing Power build that is fun to use on WvW, a CC centered rifle warrior that people doesn’t kick from groups.

I know I’m asking too much, but at least I know I’m on the right track. Keep going if you want, but Trinity vs Zerk is a STERILE argument, and you all know it.

The simplest answer is: FATE supports almost anything.

The complex answer is: You will need to create a new and specific system. There isn’t a system that really takes on account all the notable aspects that make GW so unique. If you DO use DnD, you’ll end playing a “weird D&D” rather than telling a true Tyrian Hearted Tale. D&D is a really stiff and overrated system IMO, too extensive to properly adjust, and too combat centric to properly “roleplay”.

The answer in the middle: there are a HUGE amount of good systems to use on medioeval-fantasy settings like Tyria. From Wheel of Time to GoT, from ORE (Reign, in particular, is a sublime system) to Palladium, from FATE to Exalted…

I think Shadowrun 4 system is a great and solid action oriented system, wich could accept the magic, technologic and supernatural elements common in Tyria quite well.

Im going to read Baeowulf work now. I hope is as good as it sounds, so I can run it with my regular play group soon!!

Compact is not sort.
It just pile things toghether without caring what they are.
That’s why so many people use a “invisible” or “safe” container in the first row of their inventories, and why the craftsman and equipment bags are so necesary.

I only need a lot of inventory space after long farming, like chest trains in SW. When you began to salvage items, sigils and runes just drawn you. Its horrible. Then I have to separate those that are for selling at the vendor from those that give you more on the TP. And then you have to sell those… 1 by one, with the TP always going back to another point on the item list… Its horrible.

New Emotes for HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sitting on chair.

Conversation loop. To link this with Say is a great idea, indeed.

Hand offer (/hand @ someone) and handshake (when that someone responds with /hand too).

Flirt emote(s). From simple boasting to wooing, blushing and even kisses. (you can make it work the same as the handshake).

/slap. For when the wooing goes wrong.

Personality focused idle animations (/aloof, /happy, /grumpy, /impatient, /paranoid, /formal, /bored, etc) You can choose one of those when you are simply waiting.

AFK animation you can activate with /afk or by doing absolutely nothing for a couple of minutes. The animation shows the toon slowly shifting the weight fron one foot to the other, staring at the horizon with blank eyes, the mouth open and drooling…

Inventoring animation. When you spend more than half a minute with your inventory open, your toon began to shift things in his/her pockets or bags.

Craft related animations, wich kicks in when you are crafting in a station.

Teleport animation. A simple ray or a blurring or a light. Something previous to the sudden vanishing of someone using a waypoint or leaving the game.

/plane

Any of these would be AWESOME to see in the game. I AM willing to pay for them.
