that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
For me mounts are not exciting at all. They look fine, but I wouldn’t take them if they weren’t mandatory to explore the new maps.
If you are not seeing any opinion, what are you critizicing? and to what end?
Rifle is NOT a ranged weapon for Engie.
Adventures always available, in the open world for everyone to participate, bug free and lighthearted to play would have been a charm for the game.
Gated, instanced, hyper difficult, requiring more focus than the “challenging content” and bug ridden… they will not be missed by many.
Things that I would have rather than mounts?
In game, I supose…
1. Rifle improvement and support role for Engies.
2. A commited storytelling fixing. It has become too weak and cheesy, even for me.
3. Templates for saving my builds.
4. Keyring.
5. Story explanations for (all) elite specs and revenant.
6. More and New Content for guilds: Missions, GvG, etc.
7. Boots that fit Asura and Charr toes, Headgear that fit Asura ears and Charr horns.
8. More emotes.
9. More armor in general (NOT outfits).
10. Improved UnderWater gameplay.
11. Dyeable weapons and backpacks.
12. Bigger weapons for Asura.
13. Playable Skritt.
14. Improved decoration interface.
15. More Horns and Ears.
16…
17… and so on.
18…
19. Playable Quaggan.
321… and on.
322…
333… In game april fools jokes comeback.
10785… and on.
10786…
10787… Playable Ooze..
999999999… and on…..
I have 1 of every profession; plus 1 extra necro because I made a human first and hated him, so I have to reroll as an Asura; plus 1 extra mesmer because I didn’t wanted to delete the first one my girlfriend did the first year before starting her own account.
Rocket Jump shouldn’t do any damage, and should move a bit further.
Rocket Kick shouldn’t do any damage, but evade and break stun.
Everything seems normal now. The shaft if for Engie, as usual. XD
IMO what WvW need most is people interested in play it. I think gliding will make the maps more fun than today, and bring a bunch of casuals back to WvW, and I believe that is just AMAZING.
So, sorry to all the hardcore players who wanted to keep WvW glide free and in perfect control, but I will visit you again with my glider and a bunch of friends.
Just old good 6 Juggernaut Star’s motorbike.
IMO, a good way to define a Good “Jack of all trades” design is:
- Can do everything reasonably good when alone.
- Can fill any gap when on a group, not as an optimal choice, but as a reasonable second.
Meta being meta, it naturally tries to negate any possible gap, taking only optimal choices. This already makes life a bit hard for a Good Jack of all Trades. And right now, Engie is not a good one, because Engie can’t fill any gap as a reasonable second. The lack on support is too big, the skill requirements are too much, and the difference in efectiveness put other professions too far ahead.
TBH it isn’t shocking to me at all. It’s normal for engineer. Anet has always given engineer poor group support and hard-to-synergize traits and skills.
This isn’t entirely accurate. Engineer for years was brought into high end fractals and dungeons as the only class that could stack might and vulnerability, cleanse conditions, and provide stealth all under the same build. Obviously other classes were far more efficient at fulfilling each of these specific purposes, but that’s the drawback to being a jack-of-all-trades. It wasn’t really until Heart of Thorns where engineer became a DPS-only class, leaving it with very little class identity save being an amalgamation of needlessly obtuse skill rotations.
Unfortunately, it appears ArenaNet wishes only to double-down on this mistake, giving a once-jack-of-all-trades profession a bunch of utility skills that are either weaker variants of gyros or merely provide damage.
After reviewing the weapon skills and utility skills, I have to admit I’m a bit baffled that this is what they could come up with. It literally provides ZERO utility for a group and only contributes damage—something that the core engineer already offers more than plenty of.
I’m sure it’ll still be a fun build to play in PvE, but I just don’t see it being all that effective in PvP. Scrappers take the elixir gun and double gyros not by choice but by necessity, and I don’t see how a Holosmith is going to really win many 1v1s by loading up their bar with a bunch of damage utilities when damage isn’t our problem in WvW or PvP currently.
I’ll probably take the Holosmith as a raw damage gain with the transformation, but I don’t really see myself touching most of these utility skills. I really wouldn’t be surprised if, after the dust settles, Scrapper is still the best specialization for the engineer in PvP by a long shot.
You just confirmed what I was fearing. I’m so incredibly sad.
Bald headed is unisex, go with it. It even fits elonian lore.
I DO want to make a bald girl, but I still can’t.
39, really.
Not at once, but with some awkward 6 second pauses.
a – 5 Weapon Skills
b – 5 Med Kit Skills
c – 15 (5×3) Utility Kits Skills
d – 5 Mortar Kit Skills
e – 4 (5-1"Holo Mode")Toolbelt Skills
f – 5 Holo Mode Skills
I would dismiss your idea, PookieDaWombat, if the feeling didn’t were so similar to the one we got with Scrapper last time.
IMO is still too early to know, and the situation CAN’T be so bad as it was for engie when HoT arrived. They already have the elites working, and they have promised to get us put our hands on them at the same time, in a few days. Soulbeast is not going to be as neglected as Scrapper was. It could still be really poor.
Take Pistol/Shield, Rifle or Hammer. You want the defensive aspects of these weapons. Do not listen to inbred buffoons that try to tell you to take Pistol/Pistol. That is a damage option. What did I tell you about damage?
That’s boring. Go P/P. Max burn duration. Blowtorch every 12 seconds to deal up to 30k damage to your target (maybe more if you proc sigils!). Incendiary Powder taking your targets down to half health every 10s. Static Shot is your offense and defense. Sneak Gyro or Rocket Boots if you’re getting focused. Dodge like you’ve got some skill
Live dangerously. There’s no glory in just surviving.
Glory is overrated. Live however you want, but do it for fun!
“Hero of Lion’s Arch” was a Season One title, if I remember correctly.
If we are really strict with lore and story: the human pact commander was as kept away from elona as any of the other races commanders. Why only the human one gets to mutate his/her face and change hairstyle?
I’m sure Asuras would adapt newly created desert ideas into their aesthetics, Charr would reflect on their appearances the new challenges they are confronting, and Norn would without any doubt want to show the exotic development of their legends on their fashion. Sylvari tissues would soon be affected by the new, different weather, and adapt or change.
It is all moot, anyway. I don’t think lore, even accurate one, should put a limit on options FOR THE PLAYERS.
It is not fair for people who don’t play human characters.
Fully agree. To invoke the cliché: the game is named “GUILD wars”!
There really have to be more and better contento for guild activities, not only in the hall, but in all the game modes, and in the open world.
A holo bicycle.
I would buy a couple outfits only to get their boots and headgear. It would feel awful, but I would for a few specific ones.
Or you could have what the gemstore offers now, which is buy the items separately without the required outfit prepurchase, such as the Braham’s shoulder piece.
I have already bought what separate armor pieces the gemstore offer that I like. (I have bought most of them, really…)
But they don’t offer the Arcane or Ghostly Outfits cowl or boots in the gemstore, nor they offer Taimi’s, Sentinel, Lyssa or Balthazar boots.
Of course, the ideal for me would be to simply buy these as separate armor pieces and thats it. But I could EVEN be willing to buy the outfits if by doing that I can access that parts as mix’n match items. Just because decent boots for asura are so rare…

Am I the only person who really liked HoTs? I thought it was unique, gorgeous, and the map wide events were fantastic. Also gliding was more fun than I thought it would be.
Tangled Depths is still hell though.
Far from being alone. HoT is a superb work of game art and systems, with poor marketing and worse content delivery timing giving it a bad image.
I, personally, just love gliding, the NPC stories, the challenging foes and the Maguuma Jungle. It is gorgeous: Verdant Brink is for me the best MMORPG map ever made, period. The elite specs and masteries mechanics were more hit and miss for me, but they are great mechanics and an a truly creative way to solve the problem of character progression.
So far, PoF is way more lacking to me. I’m sure I’ll buy it eventually, because I love GW2, but mounts, hypertrofied maps and GW1 nostalgia are not my cup of tea.
I truly hope you are right. But somehow I doubt swiftness will keep being used in the open world if mounts have that speed boon.
The overreliance on swiftness / runspeed wasn’t healthy either, though. It was factually a given for everyone already, so it makes sense to just make it, well, available to everyone.
I don’t agree. IMO it is a choice: convenient superior combat or convenient superior exploration. The best combat builds for most professions don’t include perma-swiftness, AFAIK.
So the swiftness/exploration builds will truly became useless now? Yay for build diversity and opportunity cost designs!
Yeah, cuz you’ll totally never need it for shorter distances and for places mounts can’t go/won’t be useful

So wich CPUs are reccomended for GW2 specifically?
What I’m pretty sure A-net are gonna do with this xpac. Is give a HUGE revamp to all existing skills and mechanics for all the classes. So I don’t thjink we are gonna lose our current F5 skills, they might just be changed.
Well, you are an incredibly positive and optimistic person. Cheers.
How big is the speed boon for the mounts? Is it stackable with character built speed boons?
Always research before buy.
The models are awesome, and we alsohave to be grateful for the new FACIAL HAIR.
That is just incredible.
Still, Anet needs to make the same for the other races too.
…
With Heat Theropy you can turn the Holosmith into a Range DPS Job as well.…
Wouldn’t you just.. keep using Pistol/Rifle if you wanted Range DPS?Am I the only one that plays Scrapper with a rifle?
I do so too. But rifle is not a ranged weapon for engie…
Right now it seems really boring to me. Even more melee DPS, without interesting synergies outside the Holo exclusive weapon+skills, without interesting interaction with your party, and more similar to basic warrior than ever.
No significant positioning game, no significant role change, and even worst, a debatable aesthetic proposal (Its only me, or the Holo Mode skills really are disguised versions of other profession skills?)
I really had hope this was going to be more…
In the good side, I think the new cc options seem fun, and this time we didn’t get AI mechanics again. Praise the Eternal Alchemy.
I wonder how this’ll affect piano players…
We’ll have far less carpal tunnel, that much I’m certain of.
The kits were still there… and with the Holo mode, you could easily play 3 utility kits, 1 elite kit and f5 Holo mode “kit”… so a 5, even 6 kit build is possible…
Hum… it doesn’t look as atractive as I wished… but I have to give it a try first. Holo Mode seems to be some kind of extra kit on f5 with all those Holo weapon attacks.
Pretty simple, IMO, but I don’t see how it interacts with other aspects of the Engie. Also I don’t see very much of the support potential we were asking for.
Weaver got ALL the weapons affected by the new mechanic…
WTVR, its Engie. I’m grateful the Holosmith is even working right now.
One thing I hope is that the overheating “explode” doesn’t actually hurt the engineer. I’m not a fan of when a class mechanic is “don’t use to much or you’ll kill yourself”.
It only harms the Engineer if they don’t have Photo Blasting Module Trait which is a Grandmaster trait.
With Photo Blasting Module Trait the self damage explosion is replaced with a Attack that damage all enemies around the Engineer causing Direct damage, Burn condition, and Vulnerability Debuff.
Edwin, can you please share your source? I would love to see that numbers!
I really hope the Renegade elite spec isn’t the Yet Another Garbage Support Spec it looks like. At least shortbow looks awesome. (And what would make it a garbage support spec is by being a support spec. They already have one – Herald. Having nothing but support Especs would leave the class lacking)
Firebrand support spec says hi. (We already have one support spec)
And it seems Engie didn’t get group support value, again…
Come on Anet, please stop ditching the other races. We know humans are the majority, the aesthetic standard and the basic model for everything… we understand you don’t have any interest in adding more ears, horns or fur patterns… but at least don’t leave us behind in hairstyle options!
Anet has always listened. It’s just they don’t talk back, so we most of the time don’t know at all what is happening.
Also Engie: the last clear “hearing” from Anet on engie was removing the forced kit backpacks. Most bugs and failures of the class are still there.
Wooden Potatoes didn’t get to show all specs. Some of them because stream schedule, some other, I’m not sure, but I think it was because they weren’t ready for show.
He showed us Weaver, Scourge, Deadeye, Spellbreaker and Mirage.
He left our Firebrand, Renegade, Soulbeast and Holosmith.
4k definition is so extreme already, it barely make sense. I want to play a good game, not make an analysis of each nose hair my asura has.
Why would the other races have new hairstyles with the expansion when they have nothing to do with the new region?
Because new faces and hairstyles are about offering diversity to all players, not about imaginary racial limits. Maybe you spect charr, asura, norn and sylvari player characters not to be admitted in the new areas because the problem is with a human god?
So when we go to the Charr homeland, humans will get new hairstyles based on the Charr there?
Of course. If there is going to be new customization items in the makeover kit, there have to be some for everyone. It is just fair for the players.

IMO, the best tool we have in the jungle is very simple: outrun them. Streamlined Kits perma-swiftness is simply the best we have against HoT creatures, because it lets you escape when needed, engage when it is best, and in general, helps you avoid fights you don’t want to do, and get where you want to. In the jungle, knowing when and where to be is more valuable than just killing things.
So let me get this straight….
1) Buy expansion with your money
2) Select the class that you want to play
3) Run from mobs
4) ???
If you play only to kill everything in the way, there are other MMORPGs that reward that behavior better. GW2 gives more for wisely selecting what and when to fight, and for pure exploration.
Scrapper lets you play kinda defensively and thoughish, but is not the best way to play in the jungle, because it means you have already exposed yourself to the foes.
In the jungle, speciallly with engie, you need to act before them. Smokescales are a good example: if you nuke them before they see you, they die rather easily.
Champs are serious threats in HoT, it is better to search for a companion or two before fighting them. And the frogs needs you to hit first AND evade correctly. Hammer will be a hard time with them because it isn’t mobile enough.

So Engie will not be able to use Turrets or Gyros either, eh?
Nerfing diversity is always wrong. Forcing just one playstyle is bad. Period.
Good leaders will surely prefer better distribution and accesibility over aesthetics, no matter what the majority of the guild members think. Bad leaders will choose whatever they want and don’t give a kitten about their guildmates in the end.
I have the suspicion Gilded hall has a better distribution and that was the reason most leaders chose it.
Yep. Engie = Nades in Anet mind. The other kits can go and bury themselves under a tombstone.
I used to keep the HT while playing with comrades, specially when teaching newbies or when fighting continuous dmg foes and challenges. Now I can’t. I also can´t insta explode the turret to blast another fields. It was a heavy nerf to my playstyle.
IMO they should make it so the turret auto overcharges half a second after planted (so you can still inta-blast it if you need) and then it auto overcharges again periodically on the same CD it had before.
No need for so many commands, people who want to keep the turret for the overcharge can, people who want to use only the blast can, and people who want to bomb heal can do it too.
