Human because of Prayer to Kormir, especially if you WvW.

Rangers really lack conditional removal. Being to able to remove 3 conditions on low 40s cool down is great and you don’t have to trait for it.

Pets will not stay stowed?

Definitely needs to be fixed. Put pet away, steps into dungeon trap, stowed pet appears out of thin air gets hit and dies.

AI needs major overhaul if they want to keep the current stowing scheme in place. No pet, however loyal, will stand in the fire and get cooked without moving.

In fact top guilds like TP and SS don’t ever use a Ranger and tell you themselfs that Ranger is horrible in tPVP.

You do realize there are 8 professions but only 5 slots on a tPvP team, right? It is impossible to actually use all of them. No matter what balance tweaks Anet makes, a specific team is always going to be neglecting several professions, so the community cannot use that as the baseline to determine viability in sPvP.

Logic dictates that if you can only pick 5 of 8, you’d expect them to pick the best 5…

Or you missed it. There are 8 total classes- if they fix us to be in the top 5, then the bottom 3 will just QQ until they make top 5, on and on until we’re back in the bottom 3.

At the end of the day, SOMEONE has to be the odd kid out (or kids, since there will be 3 of us). We’re just the unlucky group.

No, I didn’t miss anything. What you’re saying is the Ranger class is currently taking one for the team while being one of the bottom feeders of the 8. While the other person is saying you can’t use “Pro’s” opinions to determine the viability of the class.

Read, think, then reply. The forum works better than way.

Anyone knows what the default speed is for the Ranger? It does seem very slow when you’re running with a group in WvW. Often times, I’d use the horn to buff everyone and do a 180 Lightning Reflex to shoot myself forward and people would still catch up and pass me.

New Trait that would make Longbow more viable.

Complete waste of a trait. There’s far too many essential traits already on marksmanship. You can’t even run Eagle Eye, Piercing Arrow, and Beast Mastery on it currently.

It should be a weapon unnerf. There’s no reason to have that range penalty at all in the first place. And if they keep the penalty, they need to add a chance cripple on Longshot1. If you look at the rifle’s cripple vs barrage, the refresh is 3 times faster on the rifle. I don’t know why Anet expects people to take long shots that miss half the time and don’t give player the means to take subsequent shots.

Prayer to Dwyana healing skill needs buff

PTD is lame. They need to make it at least as useful as the default healing skill of each class. At least that way you get a cosmetic change and won’t unbalance things. There’s no reason at all to use it when it’s worse than the power and cool down of my heal as one though.

Seeing how Anet don’t want to boost the longbow, I’d love to see the rifle for the ranger class.

Bleed, cripple, push back, faster ROF, no range penalty, and hits just as hard? I’ll take that over a longbow any day.

Barrage is worthless even with quickness since there’s a max target cap of 5. It’s more of an annoyance than a threat. The only thing it can do that a rifle can’t do is to spam it on mesmer/thief in their down state so they can’t hide from you.

Again, these are all things we can already do. And you assume ANet “doesnt want to” fix the longbow. This points to two things: Longbow works the way they intended it too, or there are other, bigger problems which are more important at the moment. Adding a weapon merely to be a stronger version of another weapon is not good. Even for flavor.

You’ve missed the point completely, those could all be done on the rifle and not as a collection of skills from the class.

Until they add cripple to Longshot 1 and or remove the range penalty Rifle > Longbow any day.

Have asked for this since beta and will continue to do so:

1. LB skill 1 should have a chance to cripple on crit. There’s no means to keep a target at the optimal 1500 killzone atm to take a subsequent shots. Or else get rid of the range penalty.

2. If the pet is in passive mode, i.e. not attacking, the ranger should get a 10 to 15% pet aura buff in pattack for all weapons so the pet’s missing potential dps is folded into the ranger. The moment the pet dies, fires F2, or starts attacking that buff is gone until the pet is back in passive mode again.

3. Make rapid fire into dual fire. Hold down 2 to charge, and damage goes up more the longer you charge with the max damage being the total damage you would’ve done if the rapid fire volley hits but it’s in a single pay load. Has to be immobile to fire. Tap the skill to execute a regular rapid fire.

Pretty much all the points that were raised in the beta…I don’t see these problems being fixed any time soon.

I’d be happen if they just gave longbow a cripple on skill 1. I run 30% speed boost on Skirmish and the pets still have a hard time to get into striking range. I’m pretty sure that 30% trait is not working.

I have no idea why Anet is punishing people with good PCs. This clearly should be a client side option. The current setting should be the default and people who has a rig to show more from further away should have the option to do so.

The draw distance is sad in this game….this is borderline console material here. Go to Lion’s Arch Jewel crafting area and you can reproduce this problem since it constantly has a ton of people there. Walk towards it and 5 to 10 guys will phase into existence 10 feet in front of you. Now, slowly back off and they’ll disappear when you get around 50 feet away. You cannot pvp like this when a ton of classes have range immobilization and not give people warnings.

The Ranger and the Longbow

Just building on some of the ideas here – adding secondary effects to Long Shot would be awesome:

Max Range Long Shot – Cripple the target

I asked for this also during the beta. It makes perfect sense that LB should have another cripple aside from barrage. If you require the ranger to be at max range to get optimal damage, then you should give them the means to take subsequent shots.

Currently, the target can just walk away or towards you and they’ll be out of that killzone, and there’s no guarantee that when you hit someone at max range that attack will actually crit. So basically you only have one moment in time to crit which is why crit builds are kind of pointless.

None of the pets have CC that’ll work at 1500 range either and the trait to cripple only works at 25% hp with a cool down. I don’t see why the ranger shouldn’t get a chance on cripple on skill 1 when the rifle can bleed and cripple.

Randomly loading in players when near them, this is ruining WVW.

Nope. Has nothing to do with my SSD. Like I said, I played L2 and it has open world pvps. I could see people from a mile away in that game.

Anet seems to have capped the character limits to boost framerates.

Definitely a huge problem and not a client setting issue as I’m running on max/ultra on everything aside from reflections and shadows and I’m using a SSD.

The draw distance is atrocious in this game. Enemies and NPCs just warp into your view. You can even duplicate this on Lion’s Arch in the crafting area when there’s a lot of players and NPC mixed in. Start running with a speed buff and see how characters phase into existence a few feet in front of you. That’s death when it happens in mass pvp.

This a draw distance setting issue on Anet’s end. I played Lineage 2 extensively and that game is running on the old unreal engine that’s over a decade old and it could still draw hundreds of players on the horizon. Surely this engine could handle it as well but currently it seems to be turning players models off to boost framerate. This might be acceptable in town but it’s not when you’re in WvW.

Lightning Reflexes and Break Stun

Well, stun means you’re disoriented and immobilize is you being unable to move. Technically they’re different but I share the frustration. It’s essentially a death sentence in mass pvps. I have Prayer to Kormir as a human and even then it’s a coin toss as to whether I can cast that in time and then RF before I get destroyed. I can’t imagine playing the Ranger on another race when you have to rely solely on the Signet which is useless.

If they want to keep the two conditions as separate, they need to give the ranger something to deal with that. I would estimate at least 85% of my death in wvw involves me being immoblized first.

Pets and a Lack of F2 Responsiveness

F2 is completely broken on the Stalker. I try to use it to buff and 8/10 times it doesn’t work. The pet would go through the animation but I would get no buff but yet the F2 go into refresh mode. I actually think hitting F2 twice will cancel the buff…

Other times, it wouldn’t even do an animation and it just sits there. This often happens if you’ve called the pet back with F3 or if you’ve swapped the pet a few times.
