Range is closer to 2k when traited. Yeah I agree with Atherakhia; it’s not the range, but the lack of burst that’s the issue. You can only really nail someone when the stars align: at 1k plus range, with bloodlust, might stack and from the back as a zerker.

The time to kill is far too long for what has to be given up, and that all classes have range weapons and gap closers.

The stealth is nice but it’s still missing something. If they got rid of weapon swap cool down it’ll play much better as the rotation is fairly predictable.

We want F2 equality!

Anet boasted about their DEs before launch. I really, truly thought their consistent content updates would be new DEs replacing old ones as the face of Tyria changed. For instance…

- After a while, an oft-attacked camp would either become a fortified outpost or simply cease to be.
- Destroying centaur camps would drive them off, creating a human outpost with some grass growing to replace the hoof-trampled mud.
- The crystal scar running down Ascalon could grow as the tainted emotionlessly push through Charr lines.
- The Risen tear through a krait tower, corrupting them, and a new DE involves destroying Risen krait rather than freeing captured quaggan.
- The Nightmare Court, taking advantage of focus on Zhaitan, spread through parts of Maguuma, overrunning even Inquest bases. New DE involves actually helping the Inquest (still a legit asuran college) reclaim their tech from Nightmare Court.

This is what I expected. For Tyria to actually evolve and for new DEs to replace old ones as the effects of our and NPC efforts were felt. Alas, it isn’t so.

This is basically what Everquest Next will be doing, essentially dragging out a DE to week/months with a macro goal post that involves numerous micro quests. I think it’s a great idea and one that Anet needs to look into.

It’s still there… WvW Character Limit, WvW Character Quality under Graphic Options.

Too bad it doesn’t work.

I used to get solid 55 to 60fps looking at the forge from the Lion’s Arch bank.

Now even when those settings are set to low, I can barely get mid 30s. I have an i5 3570k OC to 4.4 and a gtx 670 which is well above average for specs. I shudder to think what mid to low end systems will be like.

Ther are 3 problems with F2:

1. Pets will ignore F2 until their current queue has been executed.
2. Movement on that part of the ranger/pet will prevent F2s from firing.
3. Ranger has no priority in receiving F2 buffs in large groups.

The fix should be:

1. F2 overrides all current pet actions.
2. See above.
3. Pet’s owner should be guaranteed to receive the F2 buff regardless of range from the pet. Allies would still be limited by proximity and/or AOE cap.

PVE – Wolf, River Drake/Brown Bear
Dungeon – River Drake/Brown Bear
WvW – Wolf/Hound for roaming
WvW – Wolf/River Drake for small fights
WvW – Jungle Spider/River Drake for zerging… I like the wolf F2 but it’s worthless when there’s skill lag.
Water – Jelly/Shark
I wish they’d let you have pet pairings that you can switch on the fly with macros instead of going into a clunky window and change pet individually.

My biggest problem is that it seems to be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing at Anet.

It’s like the team is not even looking at the class mechanic before designing content that’s plain broken. Aetherblade mid boss is like that. I thought the proper way to get through that lazer wall was to jump ontop of the crate, pet swap it ontop, jump off and then swap him down, but no, that fight you were not meant to have a pet that’s alive. And now Liadri is the same.

You can’t be telling your players your pet is an extension of your toon and you’re required to use it and at the same time release content that’s not even really doable without ignoring the pet entirely. That’s just bad design.

Either give people option like perma stow, and/or fix the pet, or don’t release broken content like that.

Gonna disagree with the OP. I’ve been wanting something to attack DR for a long time now, to the point that you’ll have dynamic events within the city like in Ebonhawk.

Part of the reason I mained a human is because of how DR reminded me of Minas Tirith. I want some epic fights in that city. I was actually expecting one of the dragon minions to crawl out of the great collapse eventually, before it was plowed over in this last patch…

Check your graphics settings in game. I noticed the latest patch changed all my in game settings. It turned on reflection on for all, max post processing also for me. I wouldn’t have noticed it but I’m running Sweetfx since running that with bloom is blindingly bright.

They should appear in a puff of blowing leaves like when spirits are summoned. Your character actually does that when you switch from the elemental skills from the Zephyr Scantum back to your regular skill bar. I’m surprised they haven’t bothered to use that animation for the pets.

Here’s another theory: Maybe ANET doesn’t like the pet interface and wants to overhaul the whole thing instead of just doing a little QoL band aid like people are asking?

I don’t work at ANET, I don’t know.

I’m hoping that’s the case. There’s a lot of things to be done to the interface to make it more user friendly. Like consolidating attack/retreat into a toggle, making pets able to fire F2 when ranger is moving, making pet combo slots so you can swap pets in pairs, pet buffs appearing on top of the pet health bar, etc.

@Cuch you stop a Zerg by putting a ballista or 5 through it when they break down your door, or with catapults, or arrow carts, or trebs or any other siege weapon, you know, those things immune to retal damage and have larger AoE cap?

And when you run into them in open field, you can call a time out and then build the said 5 ballistas. Or just retreat back to the nearest keep and repeat step one.

Seriously, do you even WvW?

I have a few questions about this. Why nerf retaliation? As it stands now, it’s a mechanism to defend against AoE’s in larger group and it doesn’t affect AoE damage from siege weapons. So nerfing relatiation would only promote mindless spamming AoE’s instead of mindlessly spamming auto-attack.

Firing AOE doesn’t equal to mindless spamming. Pray tell, what’s a proper way to fire an AOE into a zerg? Click on all targets to ensure there’s no retaliation before firing? How does that work in WvW?

What you’re basically saying its, don’t use your AOE if you don’t want the feed back.

Say it back to yourself to see how stupid it is: Don’t fire AOEs into a group.

The only thing mindless, is the ensuing meta with blobs wearing PVT all hitting 11111111111 while on retaliation where there’s basically nothing you could do unless you have a bigger zerg or have multiple arrow carts.

Best nerf for retal I can think of is making it a % of the damage taken returned to the player, like maybe anywhere from 25-50% of the damage (I’m leaning towards 33%). There, we’ve made it less OP against the classes that hit more for less damage and more powerful against those who like to spike damage.

No. It should be hard capped at one target with ICD. Then it would become a L2P issue. So unless the target sits under your whole barrage and eats the whole channel, you won’t even get the full feedback. Ever tried barraging a moving zerg when a new target runs through the barrage in every wave of the channel? Even better, try it with QZ.

The whole point of AOE is to hit as many people as possible to cause more damage. Unless you can use it as such reasonably, it’s clearly broken.

Um, this problem isn’t a problem. If you’d actually LOOK at the opponent before using a skill, you’d know if he had retal up. Also note that retal doesn’t do that much damage, on it’s own. (Barrage against a group with retal being a special case.)

I think this may be one of the very few legitimate “L2P” problems I’ve seen on the forums.

Retaliation needs to be hard capped. Having an ICD would be good also.

It’s clearly broken when you have people on the forum telling you not to use your AOE skills on a group.

But the real problem is the clunky design of the game play – it’s just not a good idea to limit players to 5 main abilities, where most even have long cooldowns. You feel very little interactivity in this game, because there is so little your character can actually DO at any moment!

I agree with this. Cool down is too long and creates very limited rotation for PVE and counter play for PVP. The skill cap is too low for this game.

I’d love to see lower cool downs across the board combined with more weapon skill sets/utilities along with the elimination of weapon swap penalty. I’m thinking the hotbar should go from 10 to 18ish for slot numbers.

Cause it’s not needed at all. In open world, we can just run away from mobs, in dungeons we’re not tanking.

Stealth on longbow is pure PvP addition and I wish to disable it in PvE.

Really no one is bothered that stealth stops auto-attack?

It’s because that there’s no tank, that makes loosing aggro even more useful for pve.

Just did Kiel T4 with 4 people and stealth saved my bacon a few times.

Stealth doesn’t drop agro. And you’re a pet class so it will attack your pet anyway.

If you stealth, you loose aggro while you’re stealth.

Any attack on your pet instead of you is a good thing.

I honestly don’t see the point of giving stealth to Hunter’s Shot. IMO, it would be perfect for the shortbow after the range nerf, but the longbow is meant to be used at very long range, where it’s easier to avoid ranged attacks, and it already has a counter against melee attacks in Point Blank Shot.

I’ve been trying to point this out but people keep shouting me down otherwise.

It’s a longbow. You should be at quite a bit of range. We basically lost DPS for slight utility that honestly doesn’t even do that much good. I’m aware you can stealth+rez but you will not get the rez off in time and the dps loss IS NOT WORTH IT.

There is no such thing as being at quite a bit of range. Things run at you, and no matter how good you are at mobility they will catch you. Stealth helps give you breathing room.

That’s why you’re supposed to kite and keep moving about. If you’re getting caught while using a bow then you’re bad. As harsh as it sounds, it’s the truth. Ask any good ranger or player that.

It’s a great trade off. Sure you lose a bit of damage in not having the full vul up front but you’re likely to land way more of your subsequent attacks with the stealth.

You can do many more things now that’s quite deadly that people could see from a mile away previously.

Stealth and entangle.

Stealth and maul.

Stealth and hilt bash then maul.

Stealth, switch to SB5 and flank.

I’ll take this trade anytime.

Just tested, seems like you will stealth once the shot passes through your target and hits either the wall/floor.

Among other benefits the stealth on hunters also let’s you cast the beginning of barrage without detection.

Can you guys look into getting some kind of hard cap on retaliation in WvW? While this is nice, getting barrage off is not the main issue IMO. Surviving it when the zerg has retaliation is the problem. You can lose 1/3 to 1/2 of your HP in one channel. :<

Anet got it backwards. Spirits should move untraited and you should be able to command them to stop in specific locations while traited.

The reason being if you run the spirit line you’ll have to take at least 2 spirits to make it worth your while; you’re forgoing a lot of utilities and you are expected to use the secondary effects to compensate. They should operate like quasi traps so you can position them accordingly and have the option to stop and go.

And spirits are worthless if you don’t trait into them as some people only want to take one to buff allies, so the lack of mobility deters people from using them, which hampers build diversity.

For a development team that doesn’t like passive mechanics, it’s strange that they created a class built around them.

I find it doubly ironic that for a team so keen on counter play, that they made a game with such limited skillsets with overtly long cool downs with a crippling weapon swap. I LOLed when Sharp mentioned “Pros” having high APM in last SoTG. Really, what does that have to do with this game? Some utilities have 25 seconds to a minute cool down. The skill cap is low for this game. This is one of the many reasons why I can’t take this game seriously on a competitive lvl. It’s not about skill, it’s a build war which makes it even more flawed when combined with something like a node cap.

Get rid of the node cap, lower cool downs across the board, add more skill sets and get rid of weapon swap cool down, and maybe we’ll get somewhere interesting.

The cheap laser spinning mid boss is not acceptable play mechanic, given how the ranger is expected to function in this game.

Excessive Baggage – You now drop a random trap at your location when you dodge, This has a 15 second ICD.

This would make a great LB build trait which doesn’t involve changing the LB into the SB in order to boost survivability. ICD might be too low though for a master trait as you can kite all day with axe/dagger.
