Then what would my Engineer be?
Shirtless
Just as planned
I’m surprised no one mentioned this lil’ gem here. It’s the most engineer-y looking thing for me, at least. It matches my gear, too.
Asura Tier 3 Shield:
I guess it happens to depend on what kind of engineer look you are going for, steampunk or futuristic.
Then what would my Engineer be?
It’s a PVP dungeon with PVP rewards. What’s the problem here?
Computer software rule: There will ALWAYS be bugs.
The thread should have been done here.
Eeerr bronze, silver, and gold actually. I have taken to gathering and taking everything off of what I kill and selling it on the market. It’s not super fast, but it gets me there.
What do you do?
For my copper, I usually go to Queensdale, but Wayfarer Foothills is a nice substitute. For my silver, I’ll go to the Fields of Ruin or Brisband Wildsland, lots of silver to make there. The best place to make gold though is the Harathi Hinterlands.
(This is a joke post in protest of why a Gold Ingot only nets you 6 copper at an NPC)
Quit the game over a cosmetic item? K.
Gambling is gambling. Should have just saved up.
We also had the mesmer utility skill, Mimic, on our shields; Rifle Turret is a decent threat; and it says we have a large array of mines.
Things change.
The thing about confusion is it puts you in a state where you are unable to do anything if you don’t have a cleanse up. So a mesmer can stack confusion on you while a thief beats down on you and you can’t do anything.
2 vs. 1 will most likely end up with the 1 on the floor anyways. I’m not saying people can’t 2v1 or 3v1 and still come out ahead of everyone; I’m saying the odds are stacked much higher to begin with in a 2 vs. 1.
I recently read
Where did you recently read this?
It’s true that Engineers have the most AoE skills in the game and some powerful CC, but who said we should be area denial?
I really have to wonder, why do people start playing a game that is different from all the others out there, then try to turn it in to “the other game” that they like to play so much? If you like the other game so much, go play that and leave us alone. GW2 has been perverted enough by players trying to turn it in to another clone, enough is enough. Go away.
I completely agree.
It is like the whole “player housing” movement. Why do people want that in this game? They already have it in other games, we don’t need it here.
They liked it in other games, so they want to add it to their new favorite game. It makes perfect sense, but I do agree mounts do not fit in GW2.
We have no weapon swapping because:
Zero cooldown on kits
We can go for close(Tool Kit/Bomb Kit), mid(FL/Elixir), and long range(Grenade) in the same build
We only have two options for main weapons, direct damage or condition damage
However, a few things need to happen to truly make this a good deal on no weapon swapping.
Pistol:
1-Upped to 6 second bleed with explosion causing 4 second bleed to surrounding enemies
2-Needs to Shoot in a straight line
3-Upped to 4 stacks of confusion per shot, Daze added optional
4-None
5-3 second immob on landing, with a 2 second cripple per pulse
Rifle:
Increased damage by 10-20%, possibly through traits
Shield:
Cooldowns lowered by 10 seconds per skill.
This would allow non-kit users a more even playing field with those who use kits. Our main weapons should be able to stand on their own if we don’t have a weapon swapping option. This would allow Engineers to truly pay a fair “versatility tax” on our kits by giving up a Utility Skill in exchange for a higher set of skills. By giving up potential buffs, stun breakers, and the such, it would be fair.
Was open on Sactum of Rall about a hour ago. Might still be there.
I like Engineer above all classes.
With Berserker’s and a few Valkyrie pieces here and there, I am able to tank Priest of Grenth for quite a bit. It has the most AoE skills in the game(Only 5 skills in it’s weapon arsenal can hit only a single target), so it’s easy to take down many opponents.
Warhammer Online had Engineer class that use turrents and they got it right (in that regard)
Heck there you could only pick one to use and it worked.
Few things.
1. Turrets hit hard
2. Player got a 20% damage inc if in about 600 range of their turrent
3. Turrets debuffs on top of damage and had control
Engineer and Magus are also widely considered one of the weakest classes in the game. Our Engineer is not about the turrets, and I don’t think it should be changed that way. Our turrets do need plenty of work.
At the OP, all of your “facts” aren’t facts. The sun is a ball of gases, that is a fact. The Engineer does not have class identity, that is an opinion.
Just to clarify:
Facts:
This would feel like what playing an Engineer should be like!!!
Would give us a much needed class identity! ( turrets, he must be an engi)
You could still trait into turrets and use the other 2 utility lots to protect/heal them!!! Welcome turret engineers!!!!!!
New build to our class to replace 100nades
Would be viable but not overpower on WvW, sPvP, PvE & Dungeons
Doesn’t require additional coding or a lot of work!
If you want to watch me farm events and orichalcum, go for it.
How does one kite a player while holding a point?
Won’t kiting said player, bring you outside the radius of the objective? If you try to kite him, while in the circle; that just won’t work since they could just stand directly in the middle and circle turn with you.
Anyhow, Turrets are teribad and will continue to be teribad after the “fix”.
This is sort of a self defeating rage post…you dont know what they’re doing. Yet you made up your mind that they will be “teribad”. This makes your post seems merely angry and irrational.
Never the less. Thumper turret could mean a few things.
A ) keep them from kiting or escaping YOU.
B ) AE knock back off the point.
C ) cause them to move slowly across the point while taking damage.
D ) means they will be not just knocked back, but crippled as well. Also, the point isnt exactly tiny, if a theif/warrior etc is trying to mellee you having them crippled may buy you a little time to make a few feet away which could be just enough to buy you CD time on a knockback or heal.
Seriously, its the real talents and genius’s who take a few seemingly worthless items and find a way to turn them into something amazing. Try to be innovative instead of a self defeatest.
I’ve been an Engineer since last May, Been here since the second BETA and had my fair share of ideas. I’ve commented, debated, and hoped for Engineer changes.
After all that, Turrets are still horrible. They die too easy, horrible AI that glitches at times, backwards Tool Belt skills, have a higher than normal recast, and their Tool Belt skills (When stowed) are lackluster for their cooldowns.
They’re supposed to be a decent threat because they are made for point defense and thus have no mobility. However, at the moment, it’s more time efficient to go to your opponents house and smack them over the head with your keyboard than it is to use anything but a Net Turret.
So until the aftermentioned problems are fixed, Turrets are still teribad and a poor choice versus other Utilities.
to make it better for kiting players while holding a point.

the very method of obtaining legendary weapons goes against their description and the philosophy of a “grindless game” still stands.
Man, can you sure take things out of context.
They NEVER said that there was going to be no grind. Your friend who told you that was lying. I’ll wait while you go next door to slap his silly face. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
…
…
…
Back? No? Ok.
…
…
Oh, you’re back. Now, let me lay down some knowledge.
Arena Net had said that they were against the need to mindlessly grind the same content over and over, to have more numbers than the people who didn’t. You grind a raid over the course of weeks/months to get that Mace+1 with an Orange name. It was statistically better than anything else in the game. Or killing people mindlessly in Instanced PVP would somehow give you more power to kill said people faster with Armor+2.
Their philosophy was that top end gear should be relatively easy to access. They even went as far as to imply that top end gear (Exotics) were not absolutely needed to complete any endgame content, which is true in that a person in Greens/Yellows can complete a dungeon without much more trouble. They did shift gears in November with the introduction to Ascended gear, however, it is not -that- much better than Exotics and is only needed for levels 11+ of Fractals of the Mist; which I must mention that you can see every fractal dungeon just by running levels 1-10, so you aren’t missing out on anything.
They believed that if you put in 100 more hours in than the person who didn’t, your only reward should be to Coolness+1. Not Power+1. They believed in grinding for looks, and for the most part, have stuck to their original idea.
Always Prepared
Armor Mods
Adrenal Implant
Target the Maimed
Low Health Response System
Energy Conversion Matrix
Are all traits that are inferior to similar traits across other professions. Either by being higher in the tree, or by being numerically inferior.
So they just announced thumper turret will be doing an ae cripple.
Rifle turret will have improved damage…etc.Thoughts? Discuss.
Turrets are still horrible due to their health, limited AI, dying to AoE way to fast, recast, toolbelt skills, and lack of mobility.
Congratulations, and haters going to hate.
show me one utility skill that actually provides meaningful healing that can be 100% sustained.
Guardians can provide a substantial damage reduction, which is in most cases, better than green numbers. And Elementalist can provide a huge burst of healing by just dodge rolling, which is more than what our Super Elixir does most of the times.
(edited by Aristio.2784)
We need targeted fixes to all the gunk instead of a global buff. We have working builds as it stands right now and those do not need such a significant buff.
I can respect that, but for me, I’m not going to get my hopes up for any significant changes. Arena Net has shown me time and again that I’m going to be disappointed.
15% damage buff across all skills.
Pistol getting 6 second bleed as a base auto-attack. Explosion bleeds for 4 seconds.lol do you want us to be super heroes?
Yes.
The same way Elementalist, Mesmers, Thieves, Warriors, and Guardians do.
P.S. Sounds like you enjoy being the “underdog.” I enjoy being on par with other professions.
You don’t know how to play Engineer.
You make me laugh.
Alright, so you’ve apparently played Engineer for quiet a while, but that doesn’t change how plain and honestly limiting a “15% damage buff across all skills” suggestion is. Do you even know what you’re asking for? Do you know what you’re NOT asking for?
I mean, sure, you want a buff to damage, but seriously that’s it?? You can’t ask for more damage and then all the interesting tweaks and proper fixes that would make the unwieldy or lack-luster skills usable and interesting. That’d probably just end up being broken.
Engineer is a mid-range class with crazy capabilities that no other class really has—especially when it comes to the Rifle. Engie can be fixed to be a viable mid-ranged class, but it’s a road far more interesting than just buffing damage across the board. The Engineer doesn’t need damage buffs, it needs streamlining.
Don’t get me wrong. I fully acknowledge that there are design changes needed, most notably with turrets, and traits/utilities that need to be fixed. My suggestions are just low hanging fruit that would be satisfactory until said changes come to pass.
It’s nothing more than a bandaid fix.
Edit: I used to come up with huge pages filled with suggestions on how Engineer could be tweaked for the better. Hell, we all did. However, as times passed, it became apparent that Arena Net did whatever they wanted, at whatever pace they wanted. Look how long it took them to fix Deployable Turrets, making Sigils effect our kits, or make Flameblast have a detonate skill. Things like Scope, Armor Mods, and Energy Conversion Matrix that are either broken or clearly below par with the other professions still remain broken. All in all, I’ve given up hope and just play Engineer because it’s fun.

Engineer. Throw 3 Grenades which hits 5 people which critically hit for 1k+. Shrapnel Grenade hits for 1.2k+ and I see Grenade Barrage hitting for 1.6k each. Not to mention the constant stack on bleeds coming from the Grenades which can easily be kept above a stack of 10 and the Vulnerability offers a group wide damage increase which again, can be kept above 15+ easily.

Now you grind for top gear and for content, as well as to ungate some content.
First point, I’ll give you that, but barely a point.
Second point, wut? You can see every fractal dungeons by running 1-10. What is this gated content you speak of?
More and more grind.
Gated content.
You grind for cosmetics. All your base functionality in PVE is bought with 30 silver rares or 4 gold exotics if you want to be stingy about it. Gear is literally given out in SPVP/TPVP. Everyone is upscaled to a base power level in WvW, not that it matters when you’re not soloing.
You can see all the fractal dungeons in levels 1-10. Which require zero agony resistance. What gated content are you talking about?
There is ceiling cat, the cat war-room, and the turkey room. That’s all I know of.
Except that whenever you’re dealing damage, you’re dealing on average 13% more. There is no skill or situational variable to include, as it is done regardless.
You ARE doing that much more damage during whatever time you’re spending dealing damage.
Which means it IS a 13% increase. My point is that while it may increase your instantaneous damage or burst damage, its real effectiveness is near impossible to measure. Especially on anything that is worth bringing to extra stats to. (Fractal bosses and such)
I must say your logic isn´t logically at all. Just because we (the Players) have no possibility to measure the 13% statincrease dosn`t mean it is there. That would be the same as you would be standing right in front of Zhaitan, alone, in openworld (since u don´t like reallife comparisons i give u something you know) without a weapon, you close your eyes and keep repeating to yourself “i can´t see you, you are not there, you can not hurt me because i can´t see it happen”….. guess what: you´ll get squished.
And if it comes to reallife comparisons, go out i would like to see anyone try that. Just substitude Orr with a highway and Thaitan with a rig. You do the math. You can try to make yourself believe that 13% won´t matter (how do u know the statincrease of upcoming armor and weapons isn´t even bigger than what is actually with jewelry?), but the simple math proves u wrong.
I personally have no problems with ascended gear. It is for doing fractals? Fine let it stay for that pourpose. Just scale it down to exotic-level in WvW and i am totally fine with that. Hey and if they don´t, and i feel that ascended gear matters to much in WvW, i´ll quit. And in my oppinion, i think i won´t be the only one and it won´t be just a few.
We´ll just have to wait and see. But til than it is ok for people to talk about their concerns about ascended, without people saying they are wrong and simply refuse to admit simple math.Nobody wants to take ascended items away. But for WvW people said at the start “you are suppose to be a victim when being badly geared in WvW or even lowlevel”, and now what happend? Right Arenanet raised the scaling of stats for lowlevel players to provide more equal chances. Guess sooner or later it will happen to the ascended to since people tend to not leave ascended only for fractals.
I fully understand the raw stat increase will have an effect. I’m saying that the effect is miniscule in the grand scale of combat that is GW2.
I think a proper analogy is if Ascended gear made mobs drop 15 more copper than if you had Exotics. Is it an increase? Yes. Will 15 copper -really- matter? Not really, but to some it will.
I agree with some some of what you said.
It would be very unique for us to have two forms of every Tool Belt skill, and would make up for the “50-50” split they have going for us right now. Where a Utility Skill’s functionality is based off of both Tool Belt and Utility slot.
So from what I understand, you want to give us three abilities per Utility slot? So we would have:
Elixir B
Tool Belt:
Elixir B before use
Elixir B after use
It’s capped because Anet said the servers have to keep track and store every single duration on every mob in every zone. They have to keep track of the damage and duration of all of these.
People already complain about lag now, could you imagine how bad it would be in WvW or dragon events with necros putting 200+ bleed stacks on something.
badly coding your game is not a valid excuse
Who’s to determine the validity of an “excuse”? Just because you don’t like the answer, it’s automatically invalid. They gave their reasons, just deal with it. Besides, it’s always better to balance your character damage on Conditions and Direct damage.
13% still is meaningless.
wut? are you serious? 2 sigils of force can significantly bump up your damage, especially in berserker builds & that only gives 10%.
I already stated my reasoning, go back and read on.
You can remove stability Mesmer are an amazing counter to ults that give stability but there is no way to remove stealth.
Engineer, Rangers, and Warriors all have very poor boon removal options.
(Fractal bosses and such)
Well, he can’t, but that’s because he can’t put together a coherent and evidence-backed argument.
In a pure numbers game, where we one strives to have bigger numbers, higher % ratings, and a better overall HPS/DPS; 13% is a huge increase. This is do the how the aftermentioned game is played from a mechanical standpoint. We have defined roles in a group. A tank who uses number to hold the attention of enemies and reduce damage, players who use numbers do damage for the sake of beating rage timers or making the content go quicker, and players who use numbers to increase their outgoing healing. However, this is not the case in Guild Wars 2.
Monsters cannot be “tanked” in the traditional sense of MMO’s. This is an important fact, as everybody in the group in Guild Wars 2 needs to put effort to survive. Thus, they cannot stand stationary in a predetermined spot to increase their DPS as much as possible. (They could, but with poor results in their HP)
There are many variables that makes pure numbers in Guild Wars 2 negligible. With their own survival on the line, most players have to deal with agro from the enemy they are attacking. This means using their own CC, using their healing abilities, dodging, and other tactics. Every second they spend on insuring their own survival, it lowers their overall damage or DPS. This makes it near impossible to accurately measure what 13% actually does for you. Increasing your damage by 13% may attract the attention of the enemy(ies), forcing you to take tactics into survival. As mentioned before, using your healing ability, crowd control, or avoidance tactics; will reduce your DPS.
Yes, it does increase your damage by a flat 13%. Will that 13% help you in situations where you aren’t at the mercy of the boss, or being focused by a group of mobs? The real increase in effectiveness is hard to measure, and should not be treated as loosely as a raw numbers increase.
Ascened = Ar which is REQUIRED for fractals
Point taken, but to be fair you can see all what fractals have to offer from 1-10.
I’m pretty sure that was the intention because it’s coming from me.
Again, 13% still won’t matter in my opinion.
I do wish you’d just add this yourself instead of me having to keep correcting you.
Again, I don’t mind if you assert that you believe 13% will not matter in the subjective sense of a battle. But it is subjective. Your opinion.
Stop pretending that it’s fact.
Stop pretending like it matters.
It’s not a problem and never will be. 13% is not something to care about in a game like this in my opinion.
Fixed it for you.
I’m pretty sure that was the intention because it’s coming from me.
Again, 13% still won’t matter.
Edit:
OK. Let us be clear. 13% is not meaningless. Stop using skill as an excuse to make up for that 13%. They are separate things.
A skilled player in exotics may beat an unskilled playing in ascended. But when pitting 2 skilled players against one another, that 13% does make a difference. A huge one.
have you seen people requiring ascended for explorables? of course not, because the content isn’t hard enough to justify requiring anything more then being of lvl.
Yes, it would matter if we were fighting in colonial times where everyone took turns attacking each other. I’m sure it matters in JRPGs where a scalar number matters. Or even in other games where the bosses are for the most part stationary and you keep an eye on your DPS meters.
But in GW2, 13% offers a miniscule advantage.
(edited by Aristio.2784)
There’s a reason why people laugh at real-life comparisons. Because they’re extremes and really silly to compare it to. You’re comparing a slight increase in power in a video game, to a major life-changing event. Get over it.
The logic is identical.
You don’t think something is a problem now, while it can still be mitigated, but then you want to maintain the right to complain if it becomes a problem later, after it’s much too late to fix.
I understand that perhaps you do not see any problem with a total lack of foresight, but at least comprehend the fact that some of us like to try and fix problems before they become too serious to ignore.
13% still is meaningless.
Then go into work tomorrow and tell your boss that you’re okay with a 13% pay cut, because after all, it’s completely meaningless.
Yes, that’s another real life comparison. Guess you’ll just have to “get over it”.
It’s not a problem and never will be. 13% is not something to care about in a game like this.
Get rid of bomb kit because who throws a bomb right next to their feet? It makes no sense at all, engineers are losing limbs everywhere. Instead replace it with Rocket kit! A rocket launcher with the same skills as the bomb kit. It would actually make sense and be pretty awesome.
Get rid of the rifle because who shoots a rifle right at their hip? It makes no sense at all, engineers are recoiling everywhere.
Don’t touch my beloved Bomb Kit you silly person.
“My house is going to be hit by a major storm tomorrow. But it’s not today, so I see no reason to prepare for it in advance.”
There’s a reason why people laugh at real-life comparisons. Because they’re extremes and really silly to compare it to. You’re comparing a slight increase in power in a video game, to a major life-changing event. Get over it.
13% still is meaningless. Unless you’re one of those who love to mix-max, it really does-not-matter. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing in this game that REQUIRES ascended-grade gear. In almost every other game, there is a gear REQUIREMENT to see content. There are things that require Agony Resistance, but you get what I mean.
A 5% increase to every single piece of armor, weapon, and trinket available gives player wearing full Ascended Berserker gear 13% more damage than someone who has Exotic Berserker gear.
Please, stop pretending that the difference in stats isn’t significant.
You’re welcome to believe that differences in skill will help make up for that gap. And I’ll agree with you to some extent, because it’s a fair point. I’ll even go so far as to say that you don’t have to be decked in full Exotic gear, much less full Ascended, at this point in the game. Again, fair point.
But let’s stop fabricating this fantasy that there isn’t a statistically significant difference between full Ascended gear and full Exotic gear. Because there is. It’s an undeniable mathematical fact.
It isn’t significant because we only have accessories right now.
And they’re in the process of adding the rest of them.
Once they do, get back to me.
In the mean time, it’s insignificant.
