Swap to Rifle for Blunderbuss and Jump Shot, then your Tool Kit for Prybar. Spam Surprise Shot and Throw Wrench whenever it’s up. Just auto-attack with Bomb Kit and you’ll hit 5 enemies for 4k+ Damage.

Remake Elixir X to make engis viable in WvW

in Engineer

Posted by: Aristio.2784

Aristio.2784

At the moment elixir x is affected too heavily by rng. Getting rampage is basically an aoe launch skill with a 105 second cooldown. What engineers really need in order to become viable in WvW (and PvE) is a skill that gives stability reliably and lets us use the normal skill bar while doing so. Here is my suggestion.

For 20 seconds you gain 3 seconds of stability and two other random boons when disabled (stun, daze, knockback, knockdown, sink, float, fear or launch). This effect can only trigger once every 3 (5 in sPvP?) seconds.

Activation time: 1 second
Recharge: 90 seconds

This would make engineers have very reliable stability which is hard to counter with boon removals but on the other hand can’t be stacked for a long period of time with boon duration gear/traits. Also elixir x would still have some randomness but rng alone wouldn’t make the skill good or bad.

I’ve been wanting Elixir X change for a long time. My idea was to “Steal” the Elite of your target’s profession upon use.

Warrior: Rampage
Elementalist: Tornado
Ranger: Rampage as One
Necromancer: Plague
Guardian: Tome of Wrath
Mesmer: Time Warp (On your location)
Engineer: Supply Drop (On your target)
Thief: Basilisk Venom

So you target a Mesmer, pop Elixir X and Time Warp pops on your location. Target another Engineer when you use Elixir X, Supply Drop on his face.

If you use Elixir X with no target, or a monster; it reverts to it’s original form of Tornado or Rampage.

Can we get rid of self cc ?

Reason I don’t like Engineer is all the self-cc and unreliable attacks that usually put me in more danger then my enemy.

Its ok on bandit NPCs.. but not players no thanks.

Just wondering! how many self cc skills do we have in total ? :|

Just the one. Over exaggeration akittens finest.

I like Overcharged Shot. As I mentioned earlier, it’s useful for knocking yourself out of red circles for emergencies. I always get up quicker than my opponent which makes it a handy 1v1 skill. It also cures all movement impairing effect which is awesome. AND AGAIN, shortest cooldown in the game for a Launch (Second best hard CC, behind Fear). Not to mention that no opponent can predict it because it’s an instant move.

Really, Overcharged Shot is fine as is. If they were to tone down other aspects of it (Range, Damage, Casting Time, CC Removal, 12 second Recast traited) in exchange for the self-knockdown, I wouldn’t be happy about it personally.

Edit: Apparently, you cannot put the word at and the word its next to each other because when you do you get a female body part.

Overcharged Shot is the shortest cooldown Launch in the game. It has a good range, puts plenty of distance between you and your target, and can be used for emergencies to knock you out of red circles.

There has to be a drawback somewhere.

P.S. Cures movement impairing effects as well.

Ya’ll are pretty narrow minded on the reality of the method of stomping. There are three scenarios:

1) Your enemy downs you from melee, stomps you
2) Your enemy downs you from range, DPS you
3) Your enemy downs you from range, runs in to stomp you

What happens after:
1) No profession can survive this for long. Most professions have a single interrupt and then they’re down. Most cannot get their third skill in.
2) This is where we really shine. The enemy is not going to come in for a stomp, giving your number 3 a good chance of coming up. Pull him, then use number 3. You might get another pull in to interrupt him once again.
3) Similar situation to number two, but now you have to time it properly. Can still get number three if you interrupt at the right time.

Down skills are stalling tactics, not a real reliable way to get up. Downed skills are there to give your team mates a better chance to get you up; it’s not really meant to get you up solo. The only profession I know of that has a chance of Rallying from an enemy is Mesmer; with Warrior coming in second because of the trait.

800 Gems for $10. (80/$1)
1,600 Gems for $20. (80/$1)
3,200 Gems for $35. (91/$1)
4,800 Gems for $50. (96/$1)

Marks is not the necromancers class mechanic, that is my point, a mechanic dosn’t need to be a class mechanic to be on weapons. And Elementalists sigils can grant Fire Aura if you trait for it.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that our turret mechanic can’t be on weapons just because it’s not considered to be our class mechanic. Arena net should instead consider the following points:

1. Is it fun to play with?
2. Is it interesting to play against?
3. Is it balanced and unexploitable?
4. Does it fit the class’s theme and overall design goal?

They should not restric their avaibile mechanics just because it’s used on the other side of our healthbar.

Marks aren’t even a Necromancer mechanic, and neither are Elementalist auras and that’s my point. Both auras and marks are attacks or buffs. This is akin to asking for a Thief weapon set to include a Poison or Trap on their weapon skills. Or a Ranger asking for a weapon skill that summons a Spirit, or a Warrior asking for a Signit on their new Short bow skills. Utility skills do not belong on weapon skills, except in the case of Mesmer due to how Phantasms work.

Back on point.

Focus.
DPS offhand weapon that is thematically Asuran. Blue lazers and such.
4. Automatic Fire
Shoot a volley of attacks at your opponent. 15 shots total. 20% projectile finisher.
5. Railgun Shot
Fire a large shot that gets stronger the longer you charge it. If fully charged, launches your target. 3 second charge, hits like Warriors burst rifle skill. 100% projectile finisher.

Take out Number 5 and we have a deal. Only Mesmers and Rangers are able to use weapon skills that augment clones/pets because that’s an integral part of the profession. Turrets are not.

Yet Necromancers have access to marks on both elite and staff, Elementalist can access Auras on weapon skills and utilities.

Marks are Necromancers class mechanic? And you can’t access Auras on Elemental Utility slots. I don’t even know where you were trying to go with these examples.

My dream weapon at the moment is a quick power based Shortbow. Also Electricity themed.

Shortbow:
1. Quickly fire an Electrified arrow at your enemy (fast attackspeed, scale well with power)
2. Fire an overcharged arrow toword your target, dazing enemies in a line (ground target, long cast time but you are mobile while casting)(Create a liniar static field from you to your targeted area)
3. Overcharge your bow, granting yourself fury.
4. Fire a net at target area, imobilizing enemies within for 2 sec. reactivate to drag all imobilized enemies withing to you.
5. Place a turret that can take tons of dmg and shock enemies that hits it, dealing dmg. (a turret designed for cover)

The idea is to have a weapon that works well with turrets or non-kit builds.
the 4 ability lets us control our enemies locations so turrets can get some dmg in there, and the 5 ability scale with turret traits (at least the defencive ones) and can be used to protect both turrets and the player.

Take out Number 5 and we have a deal. Only Mesmers and Rangers are able to use weapon skills that augment clones/pets because that’s an integral part of the profession. Turrets are not.

Greatsword
Long Range Single Target Burst Weapon, 1200 range natural
1. Disc Swipe→Disc Fling→Disc Swing
Fling a mechanized disc at the enemy. Damage→Damage→Damage+Fury
2. Ion Trap
Place a trap at the targeted location that strips enemies of boons.
Becomes→Detonate Trap. Cures allies of a Condition.
3. Pentaswipe
Hit your enemy with a barrage of attacks that makes them Vulnerable with each hit.
4. Disc Retreat
Blind your enemy and retreat backwards 900 units.
5. Ionic Strike
Strike your enemy with a big bang, dealing massive damage and crippling the target.

Candidate Trials Solo: Anyone?

in Engineer

Posted by: Aristio.2784

Aristio.2784

Here’s what I did to solo the entire 8 trials on both Candidates.

I went with Mask’s WvW build for tiers 1-2. There aren’t any Veterans those stages and you can freely run around chasing each plunderer. Shield or Pistol offhand has their advantages, but I went Pistol/Pistol. With enough toughness, you can shake off the attacks from the on coming mobs until the time runs out.

For Tiers 3-4 it’s a little more tricky. I went SD build with Rifle/Tool Kit/PBR/Rifle Turret. I stood on the left side of the big rock, next to the tree. The respawns of each wave of Plunderers were far enough where I could have a full Tool Belt ready on each spawn. IGNORE THE VETERAN GRENADIERS right next to you. They will do nothing at all and if you destroy their turrets, they will start attacking you. The main thing to remember is to stay calm. Once you start inching your way a little too far, mobs will start going after you. So remember that these mobs DO COME BACK and you’ll have a chance to kill them on the return trip. SAVE YOUR MAGNET PULL FOR THE FURTHEST FROM YOUR CAMP. This Plunderer will most likely go for the nearest treasure and will kill your score pretty quickly. If you see ANY mobs run towards you except for the Plunderer, turn around and run behind the rock.

My build was 30/20/0/0/20. Thinking about it though, I should have went 20/20/0/0/30 for Scope. Key traits including Sitting Duck, Hair Trigger, and Static Discharge. I put Power Wrench in there for a shorter pull. I used full Berserkers except one Valkyrie Accessory and a PVT back piece. Full ruby orbs. I used Truffle Steak and Quality Maintenance Oils.

Why pistol more popular than rifle.

in Engineer

Aristio.2784

Here’s why:
With direct damage weapons, you need: Power/Critical Chance/Critical Damage to output the most damage.

With condition damage weapons, you need: Malice. SOMETIMES Precision.

Thus, taking the condition damage way allows you to do a good amount of damage while offsetting Engineer’s natural low survival with added Vitality/Toughness.

Also, Rifle is a weapon that does the most damage upclose; which is strange because we have active defenses instead of passive ones.

It just goes against the other two medium-armor professions. When a thief goes into melee, they have options of built in dodges, blinds, and weakness. When a ranger goes into melee, they have two dodges built in; three if they spec for it. When an engineer goes into melee, we have a knockback that gets us out of blunderbuss range, and a three (Or two?) second invulnerability with gear shield.

It may knock you out of blunderbuss range but you can use jump shot to get back in range.

Net>Blunderbuss>Overcharge Shot> Jumpshot = no problem

or you can use a few other gap closers if its a problem.

Then what? Your abilities are on cooldown, doing ranged damage from melee range. And you’re just as squishy as you were before you started the combo.

So, as it was stated in this interview:
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/7597/Guild-Wars-2-ArenaNets-Master-Plan-for-2013.html

ArenaNet wants to give all the weapons to every profession. That means we’ll see an Engineer Shortbow, and Engineer Dagger, and Engineer Focus down the line.

Let’s get some ideas going and see how creative we can get. Remember, think Engineer. We are mad scientist and shoot rockets out of a Harpoon Gun. We drink Elixirs that we don’t know quite what they do. We have a portal to some armory that gives us endless supplies of grenades! Let’s have some fun.

Hammer:
1. Slam->Wham->Bam.
AoE Hit->AoE Hit->AoE Hit(Last hit has an explosion animation)
2. Rocket Shot
Shoot a rocket from the tip of your hammer, doing AoE damage. (Projectile Finisher)
3. Rocket Propeller
Shoot forward toward the targeted area, launching enemies on arrival. (Leap Finisher)
4. Ground Pound
Slam your hammer on the floor, dealing damage and weakening enemies around you. (Blast Finisher)
5. Explosive Counter
Counter the next attack with an explosion that knocks back enemies in range.
Turns into->Malfunction. Jump back 600 units.

Torch:
4. Liquid Nitrogen
Blow an ice cone that freezes enemies and cures allies.
5. Explosive Lob
Throw your torch, blinding and damaging enemies. (Blast Finisher)

Longbow:
1. Red Rounds
Shoot fire-tipped arrows that burn your enemy.
2. Blue Rounds
Shoot ice-tipped arrows that chill your enemy.
3. Yellow Rounds
Shoot earth-tipped arrows that bleed your enemy.
4. Purple Rounds
Shoot lightning-tipped arrows that blind and weaken your enemy.
5. Elemental Reflux
Release elemental energy matter from your bow, inflicting torment and confusion to enemies around you.

Sword:
1. Slash->Jab->Spin
Weakness->Cripple->AoE
2. Air Converter
Manipulate the air around you, creating a barrier that reflects projectiles.
3. Light Matrix
Teleport to your target, damaging your target.
4. Energy Steal
Stab your enemy gaining vigor and weakening your enemy every second for 6 seconds.
5. Containment Container
Place a container around you that allies cannot cross. You gain protection when you cross it.

What ideas have you guys came up with?

I like the PBR. I personally don’t like changing out weapons for just Air Blast. It also last a few seconds longer which is nice not only for interrupting, but defensively. Could the PBR use a little something extra? Sure. But for now, it’s my favorite gadget by far and it’s essentially an Overcharged Shot on a 66% longer cooldown. Adept players will also notice when you pull out the Flamethrower, and will most likely see your air blast coming; making PBR much more reliable for “surprising” enemies.

Only thing I would change is to reduce the cooldown to 20 seconds.

This thought occurs to me often. I would have to answer, I do. I play MMO’s like I’m playing a PC game. I prefer to solo. To me, it’s more challenging. It’s me against the game. I have nothing against grouping but I tend to lead by default, and that gets old. I tend to create a strong character, and know I can handle most of what we face, solo and that can lead to others feeling like dead weight. Sooooo I solo, less hassles. Not to mention I’m not looking for a date, nor do I want to hear everyone else’s problems. If I wanted reality I’d log off. LOL (I guess I don’t play well with others huh … ROFLMAO!)

I’m being honest. What do you think? Do YOU play MMO’s with a Single player game attitude?
