If you are casual, why do you need top tier armor/weapons anyways? Won’t 30 silver rares do just as fine when doing “casual” things?
That’s like me complaining how high-end gaming computers cost too much, when I only want to play facebook apps on it.
@Reuxvnoir, Aristio:
Did anyone of you actually read the OP??? he asks for a leveling build and is lvl22. Posting terrible lvl80 Builds is no help at all.@OP: Power/Rifle is the way to go. A Single Mob, even veterans shouldnt be able to reach you due a lot of controlling with your rifle and bomb kit. Its all about positioning, Auto with rifle pierces, thunderbluss&Jumpshot is AE.
I’ve been using my build since level ~30. Worked fine for me and continues to works fine. Flamethrower/Tool Kit/Elixir Gun/Rifle was what I was telling him to use. The Utilities I mentioned are where to put points as he gets them.
I use knight’s gear mainly when soloing in PVE. I use a full Kit Build. 0/30/0/20/20. Flamethrower/Elixir gun/Tool Kit. The thing about my build is that I -always- have a Cooldown ready to use. I trait mainly for recast reduction, so Hair Trigger, Fireforged Trigger, and Power Wrench are all 100% mandatory.
With the build I have, I am very resourceful. I have long range with the Rifle, Mid range with the Flamethrower, a bit of support healing with Elixir Gun, and Melee with the Tool Kit. The main draw of this build is you will always have a hardhitting move up, so you aren’t just auto-attacking most of the time. Flameblast, Napalm, Pry Bar, Acid Bomb, Throw Wrench, Blunderbuss, and Jump Shot are moves to be used once up. Use Super Elixir, Overcharged Shot, Box of Nails, Elixir F, Air Blast, Smoke Vent, Net Shot, and Gear Shield are your defensive cooldowns.
Only drawback I see is the lack of a stunbreaker. Which is somewhat important once you get higher levels. However, I use Kit Refinement to activate Super Elixir once I’m stunned. Also make use of Kit Refinement when ressing people, as you can still bleed and burn enemies.
dont agree about the bomb suggestion, freeze bomb wouldnt be a good idea. a melee kit needs a way to prevent damage and the blind plus stealth blast finisher is perfect for that. also the bomb kit has movement control via glue bomb and you can use other abilities from rifle/pistol/other kits for movement control.
FT needs to be fixed. the burn on the last hit misses too often thus damage is wasted.
pistol should actually do an AOE bleed like stated in the tooltip.
FT should burn on every hit like a kitten flamethrower does….
I sorta agree. 1 second burn on every other hit would bring this weapon where it should be. 10 seconds worth of burn would be a bit much.
No to everything. We need a slight (10-15%) damage boost across the board, bug fixes, and a few tweaks (Pistol Auto-attack comes to mind).
Very few changes I would do:
Don’t make Flameblast Detonatable. Make it a Blast Finisher.
Add 400 toughness to the trait Power Wrench.
Lower recast of Turrets. And lower their Tool Belt recast.
Right. First, no. Second, there was already a class for this, and it’s pretty obvious why they chose to drop the idea (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Commando).
Wait.
You think the Commando class was “dropped” for Engineer?
What is this, I don’t even.

I’ve said this many times in the past. Sniper Kit is not Engineer-y enough.
For god sakes, our HARPOON gun shoots TORPEDOES and MINES! Our Pistols shoot glue, and our Shields have electricity in them.
What about rifles? They shoot pretty standard shots
Our Rifle is a mini-Shotgun and it also shoots a net.
We even go as far as to use our gun to “rocket jump.”
I’ve said this many times in the past. Sniper Kit is not Engineer-y enough.
For god sakes, our HARPOON gun shoots TORPEDOES and MINES! Our Pistols shoot glue, and our Shields have electricity in them.
Trouble is, torch is usually close-range burning (hmm…sounds like offhand pistol), hammer is usually melee control (hmm…sounds like rifle) and mace is usually melee tanky (hmm…sounds like toolkit).
We’re Engineers! Think outside the box and something crazy!
Torch:
#4. Liquid Nitro
Blow a blue flame in front of you, freezing enemies and curing allies.
#5. Combust-> Detonate
Throw down a fire in front of you, allowing you to detonate it to damage and weaken foes. Blast Finisher.
Mace:
- Shock Hit (AoE)-> Static Hit (AoE)-> Explosive Hit (AoE Blind)
- Sudden Pulse
A sudden burst of electricity that stuns foes around you. - Grounding Rod
Creates a barrier in front of you that stuns and damages foes that cross it. Lightning Field.
Hammer:
- Hit 1(AoE)-> Hit 2(AoE)-> Hit 3(AoE Weakness)
- Rocket Hammer
Shoots a rocket from your hammer. 900 range. Projectile 100%. - Big Bomb Hit
Smash your hammer down with exploding force. Damaging foes around you. - Forceful Rush
Rush forward with a secret button from your hammer, damaging all foes in it’s path. - Shielding Explosion->Magnetic Inversion (Channeled)
Counter the next attack, blasting foes away.
or
Draw in all foes towards your location. 600 diameter.
I’m seeing Engineers electrifying their Mace attacks, while using Explosions to augment their Hammers.

Pros of new daily system:
- Daily Crafting
- Daily Laurel VendorCons of new daily system:
- Daily Veteran
- Daily Healer
- Daily Dodger
- Daily Aquatic SlayerSummary: The bad outweighs the good by twice as much.
None of these are hard by any means. They are just tedious as you wind up competing against everyone else rushing in to complete them as well. These added a whole new level of frustration and the opportunity for griefing.
On the other hand, the Monthly system is 1,000,000 times better than it used to be.
Veterans are pretty simple. Find a Skill Point challenge that has a veteran guarding it.
Healing is very very easy. Plenty of areas that just have dead NPCs
Dodger, are you kidding me? Run through a zerg in WvW and roll. Bonus points if you can get vigor and invulnerable for extra rolls
Aquatic Slayer. Easiest one of the bunch. Wayfarrer Foothills, next to the Bear Shrine. Salmon, Salmon everywhere.
Mace, Torch, and Hammer are the only ones I can see them adding.
Future weapons I hope they add are profession weapons:
Warrior: Two handed Axe
Guardian: Two handed Shield
Ranger: Whip or Crossbow
Thief: Hand-to-hand
Engineer: Arm Cannon (Think Megaman)
Necromancer: Scythe
Elementalist: Arcane Book
Mesmer: Gunblade or Whip
can you imagine going for legendary steps for every single armor piece
then say the game is not a grind fest
Yes, please tell me how Legendary Weapons are so superior stat-wise compared to 6 gold exotics.
0/30/0/20/20
Could take 10 out of Firearms if you don’t want Juggernaught.
For PVE, I run a full Kit build. Flamethrower, Elixir Gun, and Tool Kit. I use Kit Refinement, Fireforged Trigger, and Power Wrench to make this combo.
1) Net Shot
2) Flame Blast
3) Napalm
4) Incendiary Ammo
5) Throw Wrench
6) Run in swap for Tool Kit (Box of Nails from Kit Refinement)
7) Pry Bar
8) Box of Nails
9) Elixir Gun to Acid Bomb
10) Jump Shot
11) Blunderbuss
12) Overcharged Shot
13) Net Shot
14) Repeat if neccessary
Chiming in.
Jump Shot should offer invulnerable while in mid-air if they want to keep how long it takes to land.
Unless it’s way too late at night, you are short by one zero on that 200$. You would need close to 2000$ for a legendary since 13500 gems at 1.5g per 100 is about 203g.
I always lurk late at night, but yes, $2,000. Anyone who literally donates $2,000 to a game with no subs deserves something special.
Change Turrets into mini-tanks for mobility
Scale for more damage
Increase health
Then I’ll use them sometime. Other than that, I believe they are completely useless as a Utility skill.
Half of the posters here are market manipulators and shouldn’t even open their mouth. If it was any other company their account would be history by now. Yes, it’s bannable offense in most MMORPGs. Before you open your mouth again and say precursors aren’t a problem let me tell you a few things:
- most of the legendaries out there belong to market manipulators who didn’t even break a sweat
- there is an RNG factor in the recipe: it’s called Gift of Fortune, no need to have a 2nd component relying on RNG
- developers themselves know that precursors are the only factor hindering people from finishing their legendary. Response to that: scavenger hunt which will probably be implemented in a few months and will most likely have a nowhere near guaranteed chance to net you a precursor.
- Legendaries are something to keep you busy, not increase your ego and turn you into Gollum. Done with 1? Make a few more. <- that’s what Arena.net intended (look at the achievement counting how many you have), and stop plaguing these forums with your silly “not everyone is meant to have one” attitude. You’ll want a legendary…
- to show off how much hard work and time you invested in getting one and how dedicated you are
- to have an always top tier weapon
- for eye candyHow it really works: “look how much money I managed to leech from the trading post and/or how much gold I bought from gold sellers”
The sad truth is that less than a quarter of the legendary owners got theirs in an honest way and this is all because of precursors! So much mad in one post I can almost feel him yelling at the screen.
Buying low and selling high is bad now?
Yes, it is. It’s a parasitic behavior. It’s not difficult to play the market at all, even a monkey could do it, but it’s the most disgusting thing you can do in this game. And what if everyone is running around with a legendary? If it really hurts you that much to see anyone else with a legendary then you need to see a psychologist.
You’re putting words in my mouth.
It’s not parasitic, it’s opportunistic. If you didn’t do the research on X item and I see you have put it up for sale far lower than market value, do you think I’m going to pass up an opportunity to make gold with almost no work other than reposting it on the trading post?
You’re just seething with anger, it’s funny.
The funny thing is people proclaiming to know what I feel and you couldn’t be more wrong. I probably should come up with something stupid like: you only play this game because you failed to be a broker in real life, but sorry… I won’t lower myself to your level.
I doubt you will ever know the feeling of having earned something.
I didn’t lower myself to any sort of level. I haven’t even insulted you. All I stated was you are raging with anger. But, anyhow.
What’s even MORE funny is:
1) I don’t have a Legendary.
2) I don’t have a single gold to my name (I have only 80 silver).
3) I just hit Level 80 on Sunday for the first time, and bought all rare armor and 1 Exotic weapon.
4) I’ve never played the trading post or auction house, in any MMO.
5) I still don’t care if other people buy low and sell high.
You’re just full with all kinds of mad. Sure, I can’t be absolutely sure that’s what you’re feeling. But by the theme of your post I can absolutely deduct that.

This was just a random post I was thinking of while browsing the Trading Post. I see legendaries on there, for high amounts of gold. I was just curious about opinions on this. It’s my feeling, that legendary weapons should NOT be able to be sold, because to me, this takes away a lot of the pride of owning one, when someone may look at you and think “That person just bought gems, traded for gold, and bought the Legendary, all in one afternoon”. This makes the person who DID do the grinding work, hours upon hours of play and put a significant portion of their resources into it, indistinguishable from Mr. High Credit Limit. I may be wrong on a LOT of this, but this was my opinion, and I’m curious about yours.
A possible solution I’m sure was discussed was making the weapons character bound on creation.
If a person has an extra $200 (Approximately 2000 gold, at 1.5 gold per 100 gems, or ~13500 gems) to throw at ArenaNet for a subscription-free game, let him have the Legendary Skin that gives him 20% more coolness factor. Doesn’t effect your gameplay.

I guess my post went over your head like a kufee.
No, your post just didn’t make any sense.
Unless you’re going to try and pretend it was “sarcastic”, in which case I’d remind you that sarcasm doesn’t exactly translate well through text.
Can you relink this build? I’m getting a bad link message.
I enjoy the pirate set personally. Dyed blue or red and I look like a naval commander.
Let me break this down as best and easy as I can:
Damage: Mid-Tier
Control: God-tier
Support: Mid/Top Tier
Main Weapons:
Pistol/Pistol- Meh. Has all the damaging conditions on one weapon set, but the auto-attack is pretty weak.
Shield- Does what it does. Adds extra defense and control which is what we excel at.
Rifle- My weapon of choice. Some burst with the lowest cooldowns on control in the game. Jump Shot helpful for crossing gaps.
Utilities:
Elixirs- Solid choice for Utilities. Can trait for condition removal which is really helpful.
Gadgets- Not as great as Elixirs but they do add some nice control, most of them do damage.
Turrets- Low grade Utilities. Clunky AI with high recast and low damage. Not all that great minus Rifle Turret to sync with Static Discharge.
Weapon Kits- Our bread and butter in my opinion. No other profession can swap as numerous and freely as we can. Take advantage of that.
Elites-Our only helpful one is usually Supply Crate.
Events:
Dungeons/Fractals- We do Okay.
SPVP- We do Okay.
WvW- We excel due to grenade kit spam. Really works well when defending but not so much on offense because of bugs with walls.
Overall: Solid class on almost all fronts. We do plenty of AoE damage, our main support comes from healing and conditional removal, and our control is the best in the game. Has plenty of bugs to deal with so keep that in mind. Some traits stand far above the rest, almost forcing you do trait them. Cleansing Formula, Incendiary Powder, Static Discharge all come to mind.
Also a note that it has access to the coolest Legendaries. (Predator/Quip/Flameseeker Prophesies)
1) Somehow get lucky getting three or four precursors and sell all.
2) Buy Legendary of choice off the TP
3) ???
4) Profit
What’s the problem here?
Theres a guardian skill that teleports you to the “ally nearest you with the lowest health”
No targeting required.
Just make it teleport you to: “The nearest ally”. Balanced by the fact that the nearest ally may in fact not be a “better” place; you need to have situational awareness instead of just hammering the teleport button.
You can cast that ability on yourself. Thus, not requiring an ally. Nor, can you choose which ally it actually targets other than knowing the % of the members’ health.
Our downed skills are fine.
Why can’t it be a pull from you to an ally?
There are currently zero skills in the game that require an allied target to cast. Also, there are no skills in the game that you can “cast” on other players other than Revival skills.
Skills aren’t there to insure 100% survival, but to give you that tiny glimmer of hope to keep on fighting. Any class, cannot guarantee survival when downed. (Minus players who don’t know how Thieves’ number 3 skill work)
Our downed skills are up there with being some of the most useful downed skills in the game. The only thing I would personally change is the RNG on the number 1 skill.
I agree Elites need to be changed to be useful.
Let’s go through the list:
Warrior- 1 Useful, 1 Meh, 1 Wut?
Guardian- 1 Useful, 2 Meh
Thief- 1 Useful, 1 Meh, 1 Wut?
Engineer- 1 Useful, 2 Wut?
Ranger- 3 Meh
Mesmer-3 Useful
Elementalist- 1 Meh, 2 Wut?
Necromancer- 2 Meh, 1 Wut?
Most Elites are less useful than a Utility Skill. Which is a problem.
Smart? The game is losing players drastically and it barely came out. While competitive games like dota 2 who are still in frigging beta make so much money that they can host 1, 5 million dollar tournaments every year. You just can’t make the game successful by pleasing casuals because they are like women, you give them everything they want, they get bored and leave for the next big thing. What keeps the game alive is hard work and dedication which comes from “hardcore”, or competitive players that constantly have something to challenge them. My friends have all already left because of lack of pvp while I’m on hiatus myself still believing that naive chant “Anet will keep their words, this will be an e-sport someday”
You can’t loose players with no subs. Players who bought and “quit” can come back anytime they wish and it won’t cost them a cent.
How big is the niche “hardcore” group anyways? 50k? 100k players? 200k?
OP, you really overuse the phrase:
“trading post wars 2”
Stop complaining. Whether someone spends 1000 hours farming gold to buy off the trading post, or whether someone spends 1000 hours farming karma/tokens/ect; they earned it. It doesn’t effect me, you, the guy who posted above me, or ANYONE else. All it does is effect your ego. And that just seems like a you problem.
Most likely now. I was dead set on Engineer for a while, but a TON goes unchanged/unfixed. I’m still mad that Flamethrower #2 still doesn’t work all the time. It’s by far my favorite weapon and disappointing that it once again got looked over.
Turrets are too weak, our damage is low, annoying bugs, and weapon kits still don’t act like weapons. I was a champion for Engineer for so long, but looks like I’m stowing my Rifle away for a bit.
These topics repeat about every two weeks since launch. I don’t like the skill but others will argue for it’s use. Please refer to the thread below on what I wish Rocket Boots would turn into:
Basic idea: 1000 range GT teleporter (Like Blink/Shadowstep/Lightning Flash) With the toolbelt skill being a 1000 range pull. It breaks stun and does damage on both pull and targeted area you teleport.
I like these abilities, especially in PVE. If I get downed by a ranged mob, I can pull him towards me so I can use my #3 ability to finish it off and get rallied.
In PVP, Warrior has by far the worse set of downed skills. A single target knockback and an ability that will literally kill you. Their number three skill is to make sure that when you are having a downed fight to the death, that you take your opponent with you. But again, you still die.
Also, this isn’t an issue that is exclusive to Engineer. ALL professions have #3 skills that they’ll rarely use because it’s either:
1) Too Weak (Necromancer/Guardian/Elementalist #3)
2) Can’t get to use it in time (Warrior, Engineer, Ranger #3)
The only professions that can use their number three skill reliably are Mesmers and Thieves. This is because both of their number 2 skills buy them enough time to use their number 3 skills and it will actually make a difference on most occasions.
Make masculine versions to go with the girly looking Legendary's for us men please

If you don’t like it, don’t get it. If you want the title of “Legendary” then get the weapon and transmute it to something different. Or get a different “manlier” (Whatever the hell that means) Legendary, like the aquatic weapons as they’re all pretty “Manly.”
I don’t agree with you saying that we loose out on Utility Slots when we use our Kits. And I don’t agree on the Longbow/Crossbow/Shortbow being an option. Hammers I could see working, but not bows.
I really don’t get how you can see Thieves and Engineers would trade their dignity for that party favor yet you can’t see the class of illusions and tricks using that weapon, as embarrassing as it is for them.
I said I don’t see them using it because it’s an offhand weapon for them so they wouldn’t get the same amount of use from it compared to Thieves or Engineers. Sorry I didn’t explain myself further.
why is this the only comeback that exists for both the quip, and the dreamer? literally go search for teh shortbow version and u will find an almost identical retort to this. it is a very weak one at that.
Why do we need more reason than that? It’s a valid argument. If you don’t like the ironic look of the two weapons, then don’t get them? Also, who are you to judge the strength of our argument? I like it and so do many others, and that’s a valid enough reason.
There are plenty of other “mean looking” weapons out there that will suit your needs. Quip and Dreamer are not one of them.
(edited by Aristio.2784)
Don’t need any kind of change. We’re one of the few classes that can provide a steady stream of long range AoE damage, if not the absolute best AoE long range damage dealer. Have to have some drawback to it or it would be too powerful.
So I’m guessing any pistol users wanting to have something that basically screams awesomeness are kitten out of luck.
I doubt even most mesmers would be caught dead using this circus act.
I don’t know about you, but owning people in WvW with basically a plastic toy that shoots confetti is pretty awesome and hilarious. It’s great for Thieves and Engineers, not so much for Mesmers though.
Lyuben noted that it could last either 4 or 5 seconds. It depends on which debuff you get. Frenzy will get you 5 seconds, while the other two are 4 seconds.
We survive through our extreme amount of hard and soft control. We have access to more than half of the Launch abilities in the game (7/12 total) and have THE shortest Launch cooldown in the game.
In a single build, I can have two launches, 1 immobolize, 1 knockback, 1 knockdown, 1 cripple. All on relatively short cooldowns.
So yeah, we “tank” differently than other professions and that’s something to get used to. Warriors have their armor/HP, Guardians have their defensive spells, Rangers have pets, Mesmers have clones, Necromancers have Death Shroud, Elementalist have Earth/Water Attunement, and Thieves have dodging. Everyone does it a bit differently and I personally enjoy how Engineer does it.

First off, Legendary weapons don’t have better weapon stats than Exotics.
Secondly, it has been said about 15 different times that ArenaNet is working on Sigils/Weapon Stats working with our kits.
Thirdly, no. Don’t give up your kits just for niche support builds. Grenade Kit is our strongest damage weapon.
Not sure what it does, but it sure doesn’t make you invincible to effects already on you when you hit 25%. It couldn’t do that or condition builds would have a very hard time killing you. I think there is an ICD that makes you immune to new Conditions under 25% for X amount of seconds.
Although, that’s just what I would like it to do. I’m actually not sure it’s full functionality.
I always envisioned us using Hammer like this. Sort of like King Dedede from Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
For those of you who don’t know, the King had a wooden hammer with a built in rocket propulsion that allowed him throw more umph into his attacks.
So our Hammer, if ever implemented, could very much be similar to Dedede’s attacks; using rockets, technology, and explosions to damage and control our foes. Although, I don’t enjoy the range aspect of the Weapon you suggested. We have enough ranged attacks and I feel we need a true melee weapon.
While we do have the Bomb Kit and Tool Kit, I would very much like a Hammer to round us out in base weapons. Since we’re the only class that doesn’t have a “real” melee weapon. (Not counting Kits)
They should just make our Elite slot able to put another Utility Skill in there with the option of an Elite Utility Skill. So it would be 3 Regular Utilities+Elite, or just 4 Regular Utilities.
No, you definitely have a valid concern about the functionality of the Grenade Kit, as do most players.
You can’t use any ground targeted abilities underwater by the way. Even Toss Elixirs function differently underwater.
But besides that point, I’m not sure what ArenaNet is deciding with this. If they decide to change this, they’ll most likely make it similar to Ride the Lightning. Which calculates the direction the effect goes, depending on where the enemy is currently headed. As in, it will collide with the target if the targets keeps going the same way, but will miss if they suddenly decide to make an adjustment in stride.
Thieves have a 1.5second stun, yes.
