One has to be careful when asking open questions like this. Most human beings are incapable of self-criticism. Life is much easier if everything else is the reason you fail and not you.

It’s a fact that things on Engineer are just inferior when put up apples to apples of other professions. Examples:

Oh boy, here we go.

Very little use Turrets, and Gadgets are horrible.

We pay Versatility Tax on our Damage without actually gaining much Versatility.

Our support options go as far as Condition Removal and a small amount of heals; sure some will Smoke Bomb→Blast Finisher but that’s just a poor man’s Blinding Powder.

Our Control options have been nerfed time after time.

Really, the only thing that is good about Engineer are our Kits. With AoE pouring out of our ears, we really bring the hurt when it comes to AoE.

Personaly, I don't think Dailies are a good idea

Dailies offer very little that you cannot get anywhere else in the game. Can get rings from Fractals and Accessories from Guild Missions. There is a few fluff items like minis and the potion, but other than that, you aren’t missing out on anything. If you are only able to get Ascended Rings/Accessories through the dailies/monthlies, why do you even need them? Unless you enjoy min/maxing, which I assume you don’t since you aren’t logging in for four hours a day, then you don’t need Ascended gear for anything.

If ArenaNet offered an Account Bound item that gave you infinite Ballista Blueprints for 35 laurels, but then suddenly remembered you don’t like WvWvW, would you feel inclined to do the dailies? The only urge you’re feeling is just left over from previous games literally forcing you to log in or fall behind in stats.

You loose out on:
Ring
9 Main Stat
5 Secondary Stat (x2)

Amulet
11 Main Stat
6 Secondary Stat

Accessory
10 Main Stat
5 Main Stat

And those numbers are tiny.

The thing I found the most annoying at the moment are guilds that require “24/7 representation” which ultimately detracts from the concept of multi-guilding altogether. I wish influence is shared equally among the guilds you have joined (probably scale the amount to minimize exploits) or something.

Just one more, of many, poorly implemented designs so that the game could be released in time to stop NCSoft’s plummeting stock prices.

Oh shut up about this.

Can you name me ONE, just ONE Triple-A MMO that has EVER came out with EVERYTHING totally fixed and balanced? Where there were zero bugs, and all the content that the devs wanted to ship with, got into the final product? Just please lift me from my ignorance that a AAA MMO cannot be release with an absolute perfect product! Show me one MMO that was absolute perfection at launch.

If you can’t, move along and stop complaining. You sound like an entitled little child.

Wow. Sad that your expectations are so low for a genre. Personally, I prefer to spend money on games that work.

How long should we give an MMO to get their kitten together after launch? I would think 7 months would be plenty? But, there’s arguably more problems now than at launch.

Plus, your crybaby act telling me to shut up won’t work. Nice try Internet tough guy.

You would think seven month is plenty, yet you’ve admitted to not playing any other MMO besides Guild Wars 1 (which wasn’t an MMO). Seems that your 7 months is plenty line is inaccurate.

Because MOST MMOs not just a few, but just about all, at the 7 month mark were barely playable. Maybe your expectations are off because you never actually played a 7 month old MMO. In which case your lack of insight should be forgiven.

The fact is, by this point in it’s career, games like AoC, Warhammer, Rift, SWToR, and yes even WoW were really buggy and imbalanced. There are very few MMOs that could say otherwise 7 months after launch.

Maybe you need to stop comparing everything to one game. In fact, this game is far far more ambitious than Prophecies was, and I’m sure that 7 months after launch there were still plenty of complaints about Prophecies.

It takes a couple of years for an MMO to mature. Maybe it’s just an impatience thing. And no, the game isn’t arguably in worse shape now than it was at launch, it’s in a different shape. There are a whole lot of people who think it’s in better shape, including a number of people who left and came back.

WoW wasn’t. Imagine which game is still dominating today. The rest never lived up to expectations. Not even close.

Wait, wut? WoW was basically unplayable for the first 6 months. No clue what you’re talking about.

Also:

It is probably a shame that GW2 was released before it was ready. And, clearly it wasn’t ready. Not because the bugs are all that bad, but there are a lot of band aids.

No. No. No.

Final Fantasy 14 wasn’t ready for launch. All Points Bulletin wasn’t ready for launch. Star Wars: The Old Republic wasn’t ready for launch.

Guild Wars 2 was ready for launch. The overall game was complete, despite the amount of bugs and overall perfection.

“Games that work,” oh seems to me that Guild Wars 2 loads up fine (Works perfectly too on the new Windows 8 ) and I have been playing since launch with no more than 2 crashes since. Get over yourself and “setting the bar low.” MMOs come with bugs and always will come with bugs. It’s part of the genre. You would have known that if your first MMO wasn’t World of Warcraft.

Again, name me one AAA MMO that came out perfectly at launch.

For god’s sake, there are barely any games at all that don’t come with performance issues, bugs, glitches, and the like. Software development is a hell of a field to work in and anyone can that works in it can confirm that there is rarely a perfect program.

Maybe we should stop calling them AAA if they can’t get their kitten together.

I’ll make it “easier” then. Name me ONE MMO that is absolutely glitch free. Not at launch, but right now.

I think there are more pressing issues to be fixed before adding more weapons most people won’t attain.

I think there are specialized art teams that work on weapon skins/armor designs specifically. I sure don’t want someone from the audio team trying to fix a progression bug.

Why SAB: Home Edition is the best option

in Super Adventure Box

Posted by: Aristio.2784

Aristio.2784

I don’t like this idea. There’s a reason why adventurers need adventuring, and that is keeping them fit and healthy. There is also the risk of character-obesity. If your toon plays too much of SAB, they won’t be fit to fight the next elder dragon. And the cost of waypoints would be double!

Also, the risk of carpal-tunnel syndrome would be devastating to the adventurers of Tyria, which leads to the danger that Tyria might face. I posit that Moto is really an acolyte to one of the elder dragons in Tyria…

I agree. Next thing you know, they’ll allow Charr and Asura to MARRY. Abomination I tell ya’! Goes against my beliefs in the Latter Day Church of Balthazar.

Should griffing tactics be a banable offense?

in WvW

Posted by: Aristio.2784

Aristio.2784

Cutting the enemy’s supply/reinforcement lines is standard military practice. This was the point of sieging a castle. WvWvW is a war zone. Trying to distinguish between military tactics and “griefing” would be impossible, since the point of war is to grief your opponent. As a bit of advice, wait at your spawn point until you have a large enough group to take out the siege. Also, I believe there are NPC commanders at the EB spawn points. I haven’t checked the ones in the EB but the ones in your home borderland take 10 players to start the event. Having fought them, I can say these NPC commanders are rather tough. If you cannot manage this, I don’t know what to say.

I couldn’t have said it better.

It’s actually a good strategy to camp the spawn points. Stop reinforcements while you siege their keep. This would stop a good majority of people as people don’t like to be camped, and would leave WvW; and, some don’t know about the other two exits, or don’t care enough to go to them. A strategy of defenders of Stonemist castle is to guard the open gate/wall and camp those that trail in. The attackers will eventually loose enough people and without a steady stream of reinforcements, the attack will fail.

I’m just going to throw this out there: The Rapids level needs more checkpoints, due to how… glitchy, the hit detection is on the rapids. I’ve had cases where I’d be swept away mid jump, or swept away and hit a rock, only to be teleported further down the rapids to my doom, or knocked off my feet while standing perfectly still on a platform.

That level almost made me throw my computer through a wall.

Agreed. The scaling down models certainly helps with jumping (or at least the animations) but the hit detection is still finicky as kitten, especially with the rapids.

I absolutely love the rapids. It’s like throwing a firecracker into a crowd of people and seeing the reaction.

On the final Raft fight just going along. I have 2 lives and 3 hearts. Out of no where I’m in the Continue Room wondering how I got there.

Another I got swept up into the rapids, saw my character get thrown off the cliff, and then magically reappear right where I was three seconds earlier.

Another time I got all the way to zero health, and did not die. Check out my HP below.

Aristio.2784

I love the Super Adventure Box, I think it is a great idea, and well executed. But I did want to offer a bit of constructive criticism on how some parts of it could be improved.

It would help a lot if the achievement for collecting every Baubel in a stage, tracked them as you collected them. Right now its always stuck on 0%, and jumps to 100% after collecting them all. It would help if we could see how many Baubels were left in a stage.

Some jumps, especially the one in World 1 Stage 1 (the secret cave behind the waterfall) are too tight. They are barely doable, even with a running jump. And with the camera backed in a corner like that, that jump is way harder to make than it should be. Please make this jump a bit easier. I am of course talking about the jump that comes after the two jets of water. Try and not make jumps that are exactly at the maximum jump distance.

There are various platforms in Super Adventure Box that the character can barely stand on, and that are attached to a wall. When ever the character is this close to a wall, the camera goes nuts! Please try and give platforms an average width, and not make them as thin as a needle.

While we’re at it, fix that camera please. When ever it is too close to the ground, or any object comes in between it and the player, it goes insane. It bounces back and forth constantly, and that’s very nauseating. And it makes platforming way harder than it needs to be.

The big slam attack of the Frog boss is nearly impossible to dodge, which is very frustrating. Even when you know its coming, it still hits you as you dodge-roll. I think this could be made a bit easier.

Fix the targeting! It is really hard to select the frog boss, or the necklace. And if the wrong one is selected, your character will throw every gem into the ground!

Targeting the boss is really hard, due to the targeting system still being broken. Selecting just the necklace of the boss for example, is near impossible to do during combat.

Make cinematics skippable please.

The bombs that monkeys throw, sometimes still hit you, after you dodged them.

If you fall to your death in a pitfall, it will sometimes respawn you in a spot that instantly drops you into the pit again, thus robbing you of two lives at once.

Please provide a quick way for people to rejoin the final boss battle after using a continue coin.

The bee queens aren’t much of a threat, due to the fact that they can be stun-locked so easily with the whip.

It would be nice if it made a difference where you used the shovel. Now it just seems to randomly drop Baubels or bunnies. There is no difference between Baubel rich and Baubel depleted areas. I’m not sure if such a mechanic is possible, but I wanted to suggest it none the less.

Waiting for a character to stop talking, before being able to use their services, is a bit annoying. This mostly applies to Moto when you want to hand him your coin.

Please don’t make us whip a turtle or crocodile from a sinking lily pad in hazardous water. Those things sink instantly, which means we sacrifice health to hit the kitten animal.

EDIT: I removed the one regarding the shovel, people were right! I found a spot where it works today! Also added a few new suggestions below:

Allow us to smash pots and furniture by hitting them, instead of picking them up.

I miss snakes and monkeys far too often, even when I’m straight in front of them. make the stick hit in a wider arch to prevent this.

Make weapons such as the whip activate faster. The wind up animation to the actual hit takes too long.

Make the catapult shoot at your selected target, instead of straight ahead.

Allow us to instantly pick up baubels that spawn on top of our characters. Its annoying having to move back and forth for every pot you smash, and every enemy you kill.

1) Agreed

2) Disagree. I’m a Norn Male and can do this up and down constantly. I have zero problems with all jumps. This is just getting used to jumping at the right time. The trick is to jump -right- when your character is about to fall; like in motion falling.

3) Disagree. I can get through the entire SAB in 20 minutes. Again, it’s supposed to be tough and it’s a matter of getting used to it.

4) Disagree. Norn Male with the tallest height, don’t have a problem with the camera.

5) Disagree. Jump on the pads behind you and get to one of the two stones. I can run the entire SAB solo and not take a single hit of damage. (I’ve run it about 30 times so I have it memorized)

6/7) You can only target/hit the necklace when he is about to pound left or right.

8) Agreed

9) Agreed, fix please

10) Never ran into this myself

11) Glitch, the continue coin will drop you at the gate just before the boss. ’

The term “casual” and “hardcore” come up quite a fair number of times in most discussions on these forums and others for gaming in general. What do these terms mean to you as a GW2 player? Keep in mind that these terms are by and large subjective titles so try not to point out internet or book definitions, but rather what these terms mean to you. Also try to keep it constructive and try not to tear other people down for their interpretation of these terms.

I’m casual. I don’t have a schedule for anything in the game. I only play when I have time.

There’s nothing left to talk about for me. There is nothing on the horizon that gives me hope that Engineer will be put on equal footing with other professions or even fill a niche role.

The unnecessary nerfs to our main advantage, which -was- hard control, has really made me a sad Engineer. We were once kings of the middle field, throwing and pulling enemies where we wanted them to be.

For the newer engineers, let me go down what we used to have:
Smoke Screen was Backdraft, it pulled three enemies to you.
Static Shot had a Daze attached to it.
Pry Bar used to knock enemies back.
Concussion Bomb used to Stun.
Concussion Grenades used to Daze.
Glue Shot had more immobilize time.
Glue Bomb had more immobilize time.
Jump Shot used to be a lot faster.
Napalm used to Blind enemies as well.
Smoke Bomb used to Blind every second.

Man I miss those days. We weren’t the strongest, but man did Engineer give everyone a tough time. I still enjoy Engineer, but it’s niche in control is just a shadow of what it used to be.

He loved watching it and would occasionally mess me up, especially on the rapids. I came in with a 100% new character to the map so I didn’t have anything, my only help was about 200 orbs from a different character. I used no Continue Coins as well.

Some things to note:
*The Toad bosses HP scales with you, so you only have to get in about three crystals to beat him.
*You only need a single key to open a chest, but I think that’s already known
*Every attack in the Box is avoidable without dodges (Except Frog King tongue).
*If you are attempting this, make sure to buy Health Potions; they really helped me out.

Here are some pictures as proof. I didn’t snap a picture after World 1: Part 1 since I did not think about taking a picture of the boss defeat.

No pistol or rifle skins?

in Super Adventure Box

Posted by: Aristio.2784

Aristio.2784

We are a very small team. The more skins we made, the less stuff we could make in the Box. So we settled for a minimal set, with plans to add to it with each new World we release. I love Engies and I wish we could have served them and Thieves better this time around, but had to make some tough choices.

In another dev post it was said that world 2 wouldn’t get added this month, and “certainly not in the next month”. Does that mean that us Thieves and other classes that use daggers, pistols, rifles, maces etc won’t get a skin (which is awesome) until an “unspecified time”?

I think that is unfair. Can’t you develop these skins and release them when they are ready, instead of waiting for the next SAB release, which will be in 2+ months?

Cause you know, this isn’t the first time daggers and pistols (especially daggers) have been forgotten from weapon skin sets. And I’m kind of disappointed I won’t be able to spend those hard earned baubles this month. Without a guarantee I will ever be spending them.

Every profession can use at least one skin. Just because it’s not your “favorite” skin, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Some say it is a legend, other say they have actually been there! For those who dare, I call it WvWvW

-_- not close enough.

yeah, you might actually run into people prepared to defend themselves, can’t have that happening

Yeah, can’t have people guest into an open PvP area and not be on guard right?

I press B to flag myself for an open PVP area.

Tier List v0.0.3 POST PATCH – On going.

Tier S
+ Elementalist

Tier A
+ Guardian
+ Mesmer
- Engineer

Tier B
+ Ranger
= Necro
- Thief

Tier C
-² Warrior (it was suggested this get moved down to an even lower tier)

Given this is for sPvP, and it could be argued biased, it’s not unanimous anymore that we are the bottom 3. Heck that seems to be in the minority now.

I personally wasn’t speaking from a SPVP perspective.

Want to buy:

Chickenator:
Large Rifle that fires chickens at your enemies. Makes chicken noises with each sound and blows out feathers with each shot. Add a small canister to the top of the rifle with animated chickens inside.

They’re boring.
I can’t help it, but most of them are absolutely boring.
Even the legendary is outshined by other, non legendary, weaons.
I don’t understand why we can’t have neat looking staffs.
This makes me want to pick another build for my Mesmer and stick with that one, even though I enjoy the Staff gameplay :x

Am I the only one with this feeling? Or do other people just, in general, dislike the staffs?

They’re long sticks, what are you expecting?

Rifle / Shotgun identity crisis

recopied from another engineer forum

Our Rifle does it’s best damage up close, but that fact rings true for nearly every profession. Since we we’re designed with only 3 weapon combinations total, they needed all three to be rewarding when shifted into the close combat quarters. Thus why Blowtorch, Jump Shot, and Blunderbuss are the way they are.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t mean the change, because any patch fix is great for this game. I mean this whole line of thinking. They fixed a bug, and just because it wasn’t the Engineer’s bug you are all complaining?

I get it, you are frustrated that Scope is still bugged and that Deployable Turrets recently is bugged. However the fix to Hidden Killer was probably exceptionally easy to do. Now this is speculation driven by experience with programming, but to me I’d imagine the Scope bug is incredibly difficult to fix and the Deployable Turrets one is at least more difficult then the Hidden Killer one. The Hidden Killer bug is also a much higher priority as many more people were using it then these other two Engi traits. Is there anything wrong with that? No!

There are tons of bugs across every class that are like Scope and Deployable Turrets. Do all the other professions complain about things like this too? Actually yes, they do. We are not alone in this department. They have a lot of things to fix, and it sounds incredibly petty when we identify a bug fix and complain that it wasn’t ours.

What should you do instead? Make a thread with a topic concerning the Deployable Turrets bug. The Scope bug. Make bug reports about it. Put it in the Bug forums. Do anything other then the completely unproductive task of complaining about the bug in a thread obfuscated via complaints that other classes are getting fixes. That’s not going to get anything done and is nothing more then a fruitless activity of pessimism.

We are unanimously voted as one of the bottom three professions. Ranger, Necromancer, and Engineer bugs should be higher on the priority list.

Rifle Skins

Please add more Rifle skins either as Exotics or just pure skins. Our Skin choice is very limited compared to the Greatsword options.

Some of my own suggestions:

Chickenator:
Large Rifle that fires chickens at your enemies. Makes chicken noises with each sound and blows out feathers with each shot. Add a small canister to the top of the rifle with animated chickens inside.

Disk Tosser:
Bullets come out as large disc that have an Asuran feeling to them. Looks like Tron disks.

The Dragon:
Large rifle with a dragons head on the end, eyes light up with each shot. Occasionally lets out steam from the barrel of the gun.

Everyone will adapt to it soon.

Or leave.

If they leave over a change like that, they weren’t going to stay to begin with.

I thoroughly enjoy the Kit Refinement skill change. Adds extra utility for kit builds.

I take it back.

Needs to be 15 second cooldown for each kit.

One step forward, 6 steps back.

Why are turrets being buffed?

in Engineer

Posted by: Aristio.2784

Aristio.2784

I’m capable of completely shutting down a point from anything less than 3 people charging it because of my turrets…

So what kind of superpowers are your turrets giving you? I feel like I’ve been ripped off, then. My rifle and rocket turrets aren’t forcing anyone to fight off points through their damage, my flame turret does redundant burning, and my thumper turret is easily ignored. Admittedly, my net turret is a monster for ensuring kills.

So, why are they buffing them? Thoughts?

1. Because fortunately Anet doesn’t suffer from delusions of grandeur regarding your own turret abilities, haha.

2. They are in no way, shape, or form better than elixirs or even kits in any teamfight, skirmish, or any imaginable scenario besides hiding behind a rock while your turrets plink.

3. Other than deployable turrets, the other 4 turret traits are completely useless.

sorry..hold on. You think deployable turrets is the only good trait?

30% reduced damage to turrets is bad? No, one of their biggest beefs is survivability. this is a good trait.

Self regening is bad? No, not every build with turrets has the toolkit and they dont heal themselves…this allows me to not have to take em off cd to destroy them and replace them…could it be a bit better at healing? sure, but its not worthless.

long range and damage is bad? No, longer range and damage are always good, this is true in every turret.

Ability to do a 1200 damage ae nuke that pushes back is bad? No, while its not the best trait as it only benefits from a turret dieng, its not the worst either. Just means everytime i drop and detonate my healing turret i get a free ae/nuke/knockback…basicly i get a weaker throw mine for free, or in use with supply crate, you just added 3-4 ae nuke/knockbacks to this elite. Its not the most widely used trait, but its not useless if this is important to you.

Drop a turret in a short range infront of you instead of having to jump/walk over to where you want to put it is bad? No…but its also probably the lamest.

In what situation does this help you? This trait is rarer when it helps you vs when it doesnt help you. In most scenerios there is’nt an area to put the turret you couldnt have just reached by running over to or jumping up to. And the only turrets you dont want near the fight are rifle/rocket…meaning most turrets dont benefit at all from this trait. If anything its the lamest trait for turrets as it doesnt help them function better and is slimmest in its usefullness….even less useful than blowing them up for ae nuke/knockback.

Turrets are still horrible even when completely traited.

From not scaling with our own stats, to not being able to critically hit, to their horrendously long cooldowns; Turrets are just inferior when you stack them up against other choices.

Engineers comes from the juggernaut class

in Engineer

Aristio.2784

Engineer is a mid-ranged class and was made for mid-range

In fact, we couldn’t hit 1500 range at one time. Our furthest ranged weapon was Rifle traited for 1200 range. Grenades went as far as 900 range only (600 normal, 900 traited).

Our Rifle does it’s best damage up close, but that fact rings true for nearly every profession. Since we we’re designed with only 3 weapon combinations total, they needed all three to be rewarding when shifted into the close combat quarters.
