Disclaimer This post is based in my opinion so if I ever say “we” don´t assume I´m speaking for all f the comunity.This post considers “getting a reward” as getting the item as the prize of some activity so TP is excluded. Also forgive the salt (and bad english).

Now the Mordrem events have passed and the keyfarm is heavily nerfed, let´s have a talk about the reward we can (or cannot) get on GW2.
This game bases a big part of its rewards on RNG based drops. This means that the only thin you can do in orde to get the item you want is hope that you are lucky and repeat the same content over and over again.
This is not right.
RNG sistems are cool as an alternative way to get things “Oh while i was doing X to get Y I got this shiny Z by random .Cool!” but it isn´t right when RNG is the only way to get those things you want. It doesn´t give the player the progress sensation. It´s simply yes or not. And almost always is not.
So we could say the Rules of a Good Reward are the following:

-Make sure the amount of things you have to do to get the reward is fair and fun. The experience of playing the game to get the shiny can be part of the reward.

-The player gets to know the progression to their goal such as collections or token sistems.

-No reward should be gone forever.

So let´s see what is done good and what´s bad.

The good(-ish):
-Legendary weapons: (This one takes the precursor hunting from HoT as a fact.) Legendaries are unique, rare and expensive. You have to travel around the world, collect the finest materials and find a precursor. Ypu can get it by RNG or by the safe route of the precursor hunting. At the end of the journey you are sure you get that weapon you long for. It was hard and time consuming but it was worth wasn´t it?

-Mystic weapons (The anomaly-ish): As Legendries you get what you want at the end. can be expensive but fair.

-Dungeon weapons/armor: The currency is always given when u finish a path or go trough a PVP route. You know what you´ll get and when.

-PVP routes:As dungeon tokens you know that no matter what at the end of the glorous route you will get a box of armor of your choice.

(I am aware that there are other well done reward types but let´s focus on the most remarkable)

The okay(-ish):
-Elemental weapons: Some recipes as Volcanus are done by a static recipe on the mistyc forge such as the Anomaly type. The flaw of these are the loadstones. There are RNG based and really rare so there´s no a real way to get these (Tp excluded look at the disclaimer). If loadstones could be farmed by any way these weapons would be good.

-Spinal blades like content: If you wanted these you had to be there. Even if you didn´t know GW2 at that time. If u have a watchwork mining node and the blueprints you can still get those today though. Making the essential parts available again by any (non RNG) means would make these fair.

The bad (and ugly): Note: Fair reward systems that have RNG at some point such as Elemental weapons aren´t right. The whole process must follow the rules.
-Actual exotic skins: There are dropped everywhere and nowhere at the same time. You have a chance these will drop.. or not. Things as Bonetti´s rappier or Genesis don´t have an actual way to get them more than RNG. This is not right. Create new mystic reciper for them or some form of token system so we can get´em.

-Unreachable content (tribal armor and such): These were lost with the wardrove overhaul (I guess) and are no longer available. There ´s no reason to not to be able to get these. They could be back as a reward of a PVP track.

-Black Lion ticket skins (Unexpected right?): These are the worst of all reward systems I´ve ever seen. Its a RNG dropped key that opens a RNG dropped chest in order to give you a RNG number of RNG items. One of these items may (or may not) be tickets wich also come as a RNG pieces. This makes four layers of RNG. This makes a lot of chances of not being happy with your reward. Because lots of those items aren´t even worth it.
Yes yes you can buy keys in order to get past off the first of the four RNG layers. But there´s still three chances of being sad plus the overpriced cost of a key. Black Lion skins still break the two first Good Reward Rules.
Now that keyfarm is almost dead, there´s no way to get keys that is worth. I´m not willing to spend gems on a chance because opening a chest is not worth the cost of the key. Also the key drops are too low.
This should be adressed by restoring keyfarm (optional but IMO cool) or/and over all the rest measures getting a safe way to get the tickets. I want to be sure that after the journey I will get my skin.

TLDR: There should be a safe and sure way to get the reward and never should be RNG based. RNG is cool as an alternative way but never as the only way.

Would this work? Quickness build PVE/dung

I´m theorycrafting a mesmer power build based on shattering illusions in order to get quickness.

For weapons I would choose Sword/Shield and (GS)(ranged stuff events etc)/Sword/ something. For the second set I don´t know what offhand I would get.

-Sword: Sweet blocks and hard hitting phantasms on low cd. Can generate plenty of illusions for Seize the momment.

-Pistol: Hard hitting ranged phantasm and CC.

-Focus: Aoe control and phantasms and possible reflects.

The two base lines are duwling and Chronomancer.

What is your gear, there is nothing in your build.

If you focus on more condition then you absolutely need torch over focus. Especially since you take Radiant Fire which is a useless trait if you don’t have torch. That trait recharge your skill 4.

In group you should have perma fury, so unless it’s for solo situation you should take Right-Handed mastery instead of Inner Fire.

Utilities are extremely important for condition guardian. You should have as much as possible the following in your bar. Judge Intervention, Purging Flames and Signet of Wrath. Defensive skill like retreat and wall of reflection should be use only when needed in a particular situation.

This make pure of voice even less good for your build since you shouldn’t have any shout except in some specific situation.

I see. Thank you for your advice but after a bit of testing I think I´ll go for a more support-ish and non-condi build on my first idea. The only thing that bummers me is how I´ll be able to do the damage but I think that if I go on “All welcome” PUGs I´ll be fine.

I think it is done so you go backwards or on the opposite direction of your foe so you can only use it defensively, it´s not meant to speed you up but to let you get away from danger.

I´m looking for a aupport build granting boons and protecting my allies via Protection, aegis, shields and some healing while putting boons on them with shouts (and cleansing cons).

I´ve seen that staff is a hated weapon (I think it overwrites power witth another with short duration, please enlight me on this one) so Ivé chosen to replace it with a mace and a focus in order to protect and buff my allies. My second weapon would be a hammer because of protection uptime and utility.

On utilities I plan to use “Recieve the Light” (Healing Breeze) for aoe heal and aoe con clean. Then I would use purging flames for con cleaning, fire field and hammer power blasting. The third one is the one I use depending on the encounter sometimes a shout or a consecration, normally wall of reflect.

On elite I plan to use “Feel my wrath” for ofensive and Signet of courage for defense.

I really don´t know what stats choose, my build wouldn´t go well without some healing power so I´ll put Clerics until i decide.(Boy why zealot is so expensive and rare). I don´t know what runes use either.

If I don´t pick hammer I would change the master trait on virtues to the virtue of justice one I guess.

Please tell me what do you think about this build and how can I make it better.

PD: Please there is any focus skin that is shield-like? Going with a fan with a big norn guard is extremely weird. Ty!

Black Lion Keys. Are they worth it?

IMO no they don´t.

Black lion chests are a kind of lottery, you can get any “exclusive” item from the Black lion pool. It is only RNG if you get a goodie or not. There are really good things, that´s true but you need a divine blessing in order to get one .We all know how RNG works on this game. I t probably wouldn´t bother me… if Black Lion chests were the only way to get Black Lion skins (aside from an absurd grinding).

When I´m aiming for a skin I want I´m not interested on the boosters (who does) or the chance that stars align and I get something really good. I´m simply not willing on spending a simple gem on a lion chest key for a chance to get a part of a tciket I need. Well I normally need more than a single ticket so I could open A LOT of them and waste a lot of my resources getting things I don´t want.

This system makes the customer feel frustrated and feel that they time they invested on the thing he wanted was worthless because he ended up with nothing but things he doesn´t care.

Right now I´m doing a few keyruns and by the results I´m getting I wonder why would anyone buy these keys. Please share your opinion maybe we could figure out something.

Well, yeah a change on the looting system would be really nice. I vote for something like 2 or 2.5.

The ideal system for me would be one that still has a RNG but everytime you don´t get a reward you are more likely to get that thing you want to the point that if you are extremely unlucky you´ll get to the point that your chances of getting the item are so hight that is imposible for you not to get the item. Of course once you get that item the “lucky meter” will reset.

It it wants to be done by items the following explanation could be a thing. Let´s say you are trowing GS at the Mystic Forge in order to get Dawn. There would be a new currency called “Mystic greatsword essence” that would be given to you if the result isn´t an upgrade. With the proper amount ofMystic greatsword essence along with some exotic greatword you could mystic forge the GS you want. Of course legendary itmes would be excluded and precursors would require a lot of Mystic GS essence.
The idea is: wathever you throw your items on the forge you get closer to the thingie you want and you feel rewarded for it. What do oyu guys think about a system like this?

Need help with mortar

I´m currently playing a condi engi specced on explosives, fireguns and tools. I like the idea of a huge range weapon with useful field but I´ve got lots of questions.

-Does mortar #1 have to pass through an enemy in order to aply the combo (for example if I fire it through a poison field i will have to go though the poison field and the one I want to poison BEFORE it explodes) or it will ilnflict the combo results on all targets on explosion radius?

- When i fire mortar #1 through the elixir water field it does say “rejuvenation” but i gain nothing. Is there something I´m doing wrong?

-What do you ehink is a better optionfor the explosives gm, the one enhacing mortar or the one making random bleeds on explosions? I carri elixir gun, tool kit, flamethrower, mortar and pistol/shield.

Could you guys help me please?

I like this idea. I’d go so far as to suggest a new interface showing what weapon type each illusion is with their respective health amounts. Like silverkey said, sometimes it can get too messy to watch your illusions, and your phantasms may be near death without you realizing and they die before you can shatter them. Especially true in an AOE intensive area when the phantasms you churn out die easily e.g. TA killing the 6 Nightmare vines.

Maybe it could be like this: if the close is at full health its ball is full coloured in pink/purple, if its at half health its ball will be half empty and half pink/purple. Also it could display the weapon icon on the ball too. Nice idea mate!

I was thinking on a way mesmers could tell wich illusion is a phantasm and wich illusion is a clone by symply looking at the three little balls we have.

Now we have a illusion meter that works this way, if there´s an illusion, itrs full pink, if not, it´s empty. Well my idea is: If the illusion is a clone, the ball will be colored in pink, if it´s a phantasm the ball will be purple so we can tell how many phantasms and clones we have.

Also, there is a Chronomancer trait “Chronophantasma” wich makes our phantasms respawn when we shatter´em. It would be cool if the balls that represent the phantasms with the “return” buff had a glowing halo.

I know it could be hard to implement and it may only help those who play phantasm builds but… What do you guys think? Could it be useful? Could it be a mess or simply a wasted effort?

Wallet change; Spirit Shard adquisition

The new blog is out wich explain what will happen about our current coins. It says, among other thing (like bandid crests will finally be on the wallet YAY) the way we will be getting the new mystic material coin, instead of skill poins now it´s spirit shard .

Seems like every infinite item that provides skill points (such as scrolls) will now grant spirit shard wich is great because there´s no change about the old system.

The thing that bothers me is that once we are 80, we won´t get a spirit shard everytime whe “level up”. " Leveling up after level 80 no longer grants skill points, but level 80 characters will be able to loot spirit shards off of monsters."

So instead of a safe way to get a coin we need for many items, we are getting a RGN chance of getting´em everytime we kill a mob.

I´m sorry, the other walle changes are great but this thing is, in my opinion, really wrong. RGN causes already many rage issues for many players and -at least I – don´t want more random drops to grind for.

Please express your point of view about this issue fellow players. What do you think about this new wallet? And on top of it the new RGN way to adquire the spirit shards?

And what about a mastery line for racial visuals? You know, if you are a norn you could unlock that cosmetic bestial form by picking a “Race Lore Mastery line”.

As it, other races could get their own thingies. Asura could get sci-fi weapon effects and inquest-like turrets (for engi).
Humans could get something like the Revenant Legend´s whispers but with their gods.
The wo only races that I can´t come up with something cool are Sylvari and Charr…But maybe you guys can make up some. Keep in mind that it must be cosmetic-only and a race-related concept.

Is zerker meta so bad?

Hello there.

First of all I please, PLEASE ask for anyone who reads this trheads don´t fall on the trap of raging over other´s posts or ideas. (And please just forgive my english…)

->OnTopic: I think that berseker meta isn´t bad but is not that good because some reasons. I´m totally fine with hight damage builds, if played well, can archieve amazing things if done well but they should have a payback. If a zerk does it well they will end the dungeon faster than anyone. If not they should be slaughtered. Think about Rosa character on Bayonetta 2, she does 3x damage than Bayonetta and she takes 3x damage than Bayonetta.

I probably would be fine with the meta if it the player attitude was other than “bring the best or you are out”. Not saying that everyone is like that but, you know, ivé got really bad encounters on LFGs.

Okay I know that creating your own group should solve my problems but… I had a terrible experience with this LFG thing as I said before. I picked up my healing guardian and created a group stating clearly that it wasn´t a meta run. Four zerkers came and, after the firs boss they said things like “Omg no zerk” “wtf” " get speedrun build" and they kicked me. From my own group where I stated it WASN´T an “only zerk meta” pug.

What annoys me for the most is not the meta itself, is the use of it some people do. Corner stacking, glitching (The jump-on-the-plank Frost bug on Caudecus Manor (Aner please destroy dat exploit)) and being totally unreasonable about other´s build on enviroments that isn´t stated that anyone should play any specific way, these things are the ones I think are wrong about the zerker meta, no the zerker itself.

Two side-notes, I think that condition builds should be fixed (seems like there´s hope for condis on Heart of Thorns) so condi stacking players don´t ruin fights for others condi fighters.

Second one, I think Anet is triying to adress the zerker meta adding some mob dificulty. On the Chronomancer preview we could se a turtle-like mob shooting scale projectiles to hte player that obliverated the Chronomancer in a matter of seconds if she didn´t avoid or reflect them. I think this is the kind of challenges zerker should face (again Rosa and Bayonetta exaple, more damage output and more dificulty).

When i go to SW i take one of the groups offering an event map, then i TP to the map. Then i run to a base and help with the events. I usually leave the group fast so the leader can taxi more people… A m I doing it wrong?

I was doing CoE when at the end i noticed something strange. There was two of one of our party mebers: the real one who was standing and talking and the other one who was stuck on shoot animation. And she wasn´t a mesmer I swear.

How I think specializations will unlock

It would be amazing if we could run a quest (like the stor misions) but class-related in order to get the specializations.
For example a mesmer would have something to do with the Mesmer Society (it is known that Countness Anise and Kasmeer Meade are part of it) or something like that.

Guild Wars 2 has an expansion coming. (“Duh?”)

That expansion has no release date or price point. (“Duh, again? Thanks, Captain Obvious!”)

April 1st [aka April Fool’s Day] is coming up soon. (“Gee, you’re good at making pointless statements of the already known.”)

So, what kind of shenanigans (smack!) will Arena Net pull with the combination of a Fool’s Day and anticipation for any speck of information about Heart of Thorns?

  • ~Fake release date?
  • ~Astronomical pricing model?
  • ~Change of business model to subscription only?
  • ~Trahearn replaces the Pale Tree and becomes King of the Sylvari?
  • ~New race: Tengu (oh the outrage that would happen at this joke!)
  • ~New zone: Elona (again, more outrage at this joke)
  • ~Class specialization ruses (Mesmer specialization is turning into a magical Moa that uses feathered rainbows to heal allies!)

[Suggestion] Male Guardian anim 'Empower'

The Guardian male animations have been rather lacklustre since day one, sadly.
It’s a shame too, because the descriptor ANet gave of the Guardian as a heavy armor fighter who generates massive amounts of magical energy and sort of just throws them around (rather than using them with finesse like other casters do) gives a really nice ideal to how a Guardian would fight, and is very similiar to the He-Man style Zatoichi suggested.

They did used to have one cool animation (and as far as I know, the only place in the game it was actually used), which was for Staff 5 (Line of Warding). The Guardian used to do a little twirl, levitating a bit, then slam his staff into the ground and shout “You Shall Not Pass!” all hard-core Gandalf style – but when they altered the skill to be usable on the move, they replaced it with the boring simple silent hand-wave animation you see for Staff 5 today and it doesn’t feel powerful or threatening at all.

Perhaps though, while it doesn’t exactly fit, this would be a good candidate as a replacement Empower animation, rather than having unused assets in-the game (especially as cool as this one was). They could slow down the twirl and the levitate and use it as the first stages of might channeling, with the final channel and heal coming on just as the Guardian slammed the staff into the ground. Naturally, you’d have to replace the voice line (as the current one wouldn’t make much sense for the skill), but it’d definetly be an improvement.

I’d settle for the female animations if that’s all we were allowed to get though. Was a big fan of Paragons in GW1 anway, so anything remotely similar to their epic combat stylisings is a win for me. They always felt so majestic and powerful, and I really miss that golden wing animation!

Then, as far more far-fetched suggestion, maybe we could get Dragon Age 2/3 style Staff animations for the Guardian autoattack, which would finally give the staff more of an awesome feel rather than the dull lowly simple constipated style of the weapon today.

Hey they could use these trown up animations again. Or create new ones for HOT .

I would love love love to see one of the folowing:

-Muse (Mesmer): Uses music magic in order to debuff and controll enemies as well as buff and protect allies.

Time mage (Mesmer): manipulates the fabric of time itself, slowing and dazing enemies as well as dealing damage and grant quickness to allies.

Vanguard (Guardian): Using polearms on land to control enemies and being tanky in general.

Aquamancer (Elementalist): Focused on the water element, these mages support their allies, chill their enemies and shatter them like ice crystals. The would, t be able to swap between elements but thei´ll have two modes, aqua mode for support and frost mode for damage and control.

From my point of view, my problem with the zerker meta is that is fun… only for zerkers. People who want to play anything else are likely to be blamed or even kicked because their builds aren´t the optimal choice. I fell that some zerk players don´t want a change because it could mean that runing zerker would be less easy or optimal. I m ok with the zerk role, it shouldn´t be nerfed to the ground but I think there should be a change to make the rest of the builds viable.

What iI mean is : If you want to play zerker you should be able to play it as well as if you run another build. If only one build is the useful one is not fair for the people who run anything else.

Yeah i was thinking just like OP! Female characters have an awesome animation like “I weild the light of salvation!” and males… well. They seem to have stomach pain sr something D. .

Supporting the animation change too!

Even though i don´t know if a male norn would float that easily…
