You tried to claim mesmers were useful for projectile reflection, condi removal, AOE confusion and AOE stun/interrupt. I told you that in all these cases they’re either replaceable or not needed. Therefore mesmers aren’t actually as good as you thought they were.

So they can be replaced, just like all the other classes that can do it as well.

Except warriors, guards, necros and probably more I’m forgetting are solid in duels and group fights.

I cant remember the last time i lost to any of these in 1 Vs 1, Warrior isnt that great in group fights, Guards dont do much other then support. Necro though i can agree with to an extent.

None of these classes are amazing at both group fights and at duels and thats the point. Mesmer might lose a bit in Group fights but they make it for it in other situations

What heal do you use?

Ether renewal with the trait that gives stability when switching to earth.

So would need to spend points in a tree that i would no longer be using just to be able to use this heal?

Maybe it should be changed to something like the Ranger Healing Spring and have it remove conditions while you are inside its “spring” and have the actual heal as an instant/>1second cast.

Given the actual condition meta, Ether Renewal is by far the best Healing we have (IMHO).

Though i dont see much of that in WvW, that is the heal that i was thinking of taking.

This, by itself, is a pointless argument. Attunement dancing is the mechanic for elementalists, just like fury for warriors or death shroud for necros, etc…That is simply the play style of the character and if you don’t enjoy it and would rather stand still and autoattack, play a warrior. There are plenty of people who prefer the busier play style of the elemntalist and enjoy flowing the skills together. I don’t intend to single you out really, just stating that as a general point to the community and everyone else who has said what you said.

Now…the question is, do elementalists have the same production in the same amount of time as a warrior or necro or ranger speced the same way. The answer there is “no”, supported by some of the numbers in the OP. We have short bursts of brilliance followed by long periods of “meh” and that’s what needs to be re-balanced….not the fact that we have to switch attunements to make things happen.

In my opinion, it wouldnt be so bad if you werent pretty much forced to take points in Arcane. 15seconds is simply to long. It needs to be 10seconds and have the Arcane bonus to be something else.

It’s not that i dont enjoy the class because i do, what i dont like is how we are FORCED into a specific playstyle – that being attunement dancing. The Unique F1-4 skills of all other classes are HELPFUL to them, they can either use them or ignore them

Mesmer being the best example for alot of my builds i havent used Shatters as i havent neither wanted or needed to use them.

THAT is how it should be for all the classes, yet it seems some are VASTLY superior to others and i think Ele is the worst of the lot in my opinion. You get so many traits that ONLY affect you in a specific attunement that is going AGAINST what they clearly want us to be doing, they have the 15second cool down which also adds to it.

switching should be out of CHOICE and for the specific situation NOT because if we dont we are not a complete class and NOT because if we dont we die and do pathetic damage.

I am curious as to what heal everyone here uses. Currently i run with Signet of Restoration combined with Written in Stone(30 Earth) i find it great, knowing that i still get healing while the skill is on cool down is very useful at times.

However, i am not considering moving the the 30points from Earth into Water and Arcane. However, this would mean that i would lose Written In Stone which i think would make Signet of Restoration alot weaker and not really sure what i should take as a replacement.

Well done, you can win duels with a dueling class.

I didn’t claim mesmers were bad in WvW either, what I’m trying to say is they’re narrow, and you can’t stack them as well as you can other classes.

You were saying they arent as good as i think, i think they are fine. Sure could use a tweak here and there but they are far from being a Veil bot or anything. NO class should be amazing at both duels and big group frights, so we lose a bit in group fights we make up for that in smaller fights

Mesmers really aren’t as good in WvW as you think they are.

I have no issues on mine. I win alot more 1 Vs 1 then i lose, i win or draw more 1 V x then i lose as well and i am happy with the way i perform in groups as well. I would say Mesmers really aren’t as bad in WvW as you think they are

You pretty much hit it on the head. Mesmer drops a veil, melee train runs through and stomps the other group.

Because the projectile reflection, condition removal, AoE stuns/interrupts, AoE confusion and everything just means nothing….

Well if this game have guild wars in its name and have mesmers in it and Do not have mesmer unique style do not have Guild versus Guild Team arena Random arena Heroes Ascend just rename it this is not guild wars worthy.
One more thing in guild wars the mesmer got near 40+ Elite skills all of them deserve to be on your skill bar in guild wars 2 all elite skills are garbage sorry

So the name is the same so it must mean they play the same? Not quite, You have to remember Guild Wars was very much aimed towards PvP, sure it had PvE content but nothing like its PvP.

This game (GW2) is the other way around. It is catered towards the PvE crowd. As i stated Mesmer in Guild Wars 2 is NOT the same as the Mesmer from Guild Wars, they might have similarities and share the same name but they are NOT the same and i doubt they ever will be.

You dont like it? Then dont play. It is pretty much that simple. Plenty of people play and like Guild Wars 2, much more so then with Guild Wars with its awful (imo) combat system. The only thing i wish they kept was the Class mixing, the current system is pretty poor.

Same with Mesmer i think as well. For all the utility they have, mostly wasted in S/TPvP and get crushed by any condition build and needs to have a defender with them to keep them alive

You got any Links for that? from what i heard gear with Magic find is just getting the Magic find removed and no other stats added or increased. Guess it would be impossible for the same to happen to some of the Runes due to the fact they have so much of it as part of the set.

Read the front page of GW2, it outlines it clearly as to what is happening with Magic Find.

I remember reading it was getting removed, nothing about it being replaced with anything.

Yeah they really need a nerf to the health, seeing as they have DS as well, the health they have should be reduced by 25-30% and given to the class that really needs it – Ele.

No way in Hell, bro. Ele’s got better heal abilities, and defensive Boons. Necro gets bounced around like a bloody ragdoll in a prolonged fight. Also, that “DS overflow fix”
seriously reduces their resistance to heavy burst.

More heals doesnt mean anything if:

A) ridiculously long cool downs
B) Dont heal for alot unless you trait for i

The healing skills Ele have are meh, you trait/gear to make them better and you will have even less damage then we do now

Cleansing wave for example – 40second cool down for a measly 1,300 heal (without traits, 60 healing stats) sorry but that is awful, I just saw the Ranger Heal, now THAT is the kind of heal Ele need to counter the seriously low health, armor and damage.

Necro have plenty of other defensive options, Plenty of fear, torment, cripple, Spectral skills and easy to gain Life Force. They can also kite with ease thanks to being able to switch between melee and range.

Compare that to ele, forced to either stay melee and deal damage or be at range and deal none, HALF the health, less damage and less armor…

You also forgot Ranger, ArmageddonAsh: Water field on Healing Spring, indeed the longest duration Water field in game, iirc.

Just seen that, that is one VERY powerful healing skill. Does the cool down start as soon as its used? having a water field every 15 seconds would be insane. 30 second cool down for4,920 healing and 6 stacks of regen (another 2,340 heal) and the water field for 15 seconds….

And that is before any traits, or healing stats.

That terrible weapon as you say allow me to win every 1vs1 exept against good (still lame, but it end with a draw) stun warrior and always win against thief.
It’s a control fighting style, not a “i have to make it quick or i wont have enough cooldown against that class to survive” style.

Then its simply you are either fighting:

1) Upscaled people
2) Terrible people

Sorry but /Dagger offers the better damage, more healing and much needed combat movement. What server are you on? Would be interested in seeing if we can have a duel against my Condition Mesmer.

Lol with straight exotic soldier’s it isn’t surprising for a mesmer to get 26k maybe 27k. It is a hella lot. A necro with soldier’s US crazy haha. Honestly, straight soldier’s on a necro would probably be around 34k…. Crazy lol

-Condition removal is very weak, null field isn’t worth having in utility bar, neither is mantra condition removal. But I can deal with this.

Agree with this, though in WvW running solo and small groups i rarely find condition builds so i dont see that as a problem, though its a bigger issue in S/TPvP

-No blast finishers…. Yes yes I know torch is a blast finisher but it’s a horrible blast finisher, almost like a horse with 3 legs.

Doesn’t bother me, i get on perfectly fine without them. Not every class should get all the same finishers. I would take Etherreal fields over them myself and for my build.

-Stability mantra/stability needs a buff! Long cast time, long cool down and only lasts 2 seconds for each mantra which makes it pretty useless for “pushing” into anything.

Mantra’s overall are pretty weak, not just this one, Though i rarely need stability anyway.

-Lowest damage output out of all classes, again I’m fine with this aslong as we have a “perk” somewhere else. Don’t bring up clones/phantasms because in WvW the only reliable phantasm/clone for decent damage is #4 greatsword.

“Lowest Damage”? My ele laughs at that, Mesmer is far from the lowest damage. Now you take out ALL the Phantasms and i would agree. Currently we are far from the lowest, even if the 20% nerf to Phantasms comes i still think that we would be higher then Ele unless they get some VERY welcome love.

-Staff nerfed chaos armor/very slow phantasm orbs/very slow auto attack making it basically useless in any fast paced fights in WvW.

Staff rocks, sure the Chaos Armor nerf was kind of annoying but it doesnt really change how good the weapon is. Have you even used the Staff in group fights? It is VERY strong and its NOT meant to be a 100% nuke down weapon its more defensive but with the conditions from Auto attack, clone conditions as well as the conditions from Chaos Armor and Chaos Storm the iLock can hit HARD.

SO while it is more of a defensive weapon, it works very well going offensive as well. I run it in my build and have not thought kitten i wish this was stronger, it works fine the way it is

-The ONLY reason mesmers are needed in WvW is for veil and the occasional port up into the keep because someone fell off the wall. That’s about it.

I have already replied to how silly this comment is, i dont think it is needed again.

-No swiftness signet, forced to use focus and/or centaur runes on gear.

I agree with this, it is annoying having to swap out to Focus just to get swiftness and how we get no trait or signet to boost out of combat speed.

-No water fields making mesmer even more useless in group play.

Most classes dont have water fields, only Ele and Engineer if i remember correctly, would you rather ALL classes have access to ALL of the fields? Again this is not needed, Ele needs all of that as they have the lowest health, lowest armor and lowest damage without that healing they would be useless.

We have stealth, dodges, Phase Retreat, Clones, Distortion and other skills to help our defense, they have healing and thats pretty much it and even then that wont be enough to stop them getting killed most of the time.

-Worst AOE class in the game without speccing into full condition glamour builds.

Again, i disagree – to me it sounds like most of your time in PvE with terrible weapons and expecting amazing results. Feedback, Chaos Storm, iZerker, AoE Stun, AoE Confusion, Mind Wreck, iWarden

we have plenty of AoE skills, maybe try using different weapons and utilities once in a while and you might just see how strong they are.

Well I’m going to retire my mesmer for now until something is done about it, it’s so broken it isn’t even funny. Going to play guardian. They have absolutely no use other than veil in group play and even that isn’t worth it. The coolness factor has worn off after 500 hours of trying to keep up with the group play tactics.

Then you are playing it wrong. We offer SO much more then just Veil. Feedback is a killer, AoE Confusion, AoE stuns, Nullfield. To say that we offer nothing apart from veil just shows you little you understand of the class. Maybe spend MORE time in WvW and less of that 500hours in PvE and you will understand just how strong we can be to group fights

Vaffelman that wouldn’t be very good in WvW to be honest, chaos fields are USELESS in WvW. Chaos fields just get in the way of other useful fields. And I’m I forgot to mention I’m talking about WvW in the post Knote not PVE.

Useless? You are crazy. They are FAR from it, they can eaisly be effective if you are using them right. Combine that with the Perplexity runes and you have AoE Confusion. The damage is solid the conditions are solid.

I use it ALOT, you have to find the right time and place but when you do it can be deadly, especially combined with Feedback.

PvE is easy enough for all classes. Don’t listen to PvE elitists that think you need to go full zerker warriors to be effective.

But as I said earlier, WvW/PvP is a whole different ball game, especially for eles.

This. Anyone of any class can be good in PvE WvW and S/TPvP on the other hand is VERY tough on Ele. It can be done, just dont be expecting to be able to be everyone, 1 V1 possible anything more is pretty much a loss.

Go dagger focus, you can’t die against thief and most of them are freekill.
You have 2 ranged interupt skill (3 if you play asura) and you can heal at least once while being invincible, even if you are bad with your elementalist.

With dagger focus what matter the most are the timer of your interupt, not your burst.
Spam auto attack untill the thief is at 60-70% hp then let him think he can heal or go stealth, then interupt him and burst. Repeat until he die.
Best way to make it work is to let him think he almost got you and should push a little bit more. Use arcane shield while you have 40-60% hp and interupt him at the same time as the shield explode. Also work with 5 focus earth.

Focus over dagger?

- Lose Fire Grab, Ring of Fire, Frost Aura, Cleansing Wave, RTL, Updraft, Earthquake and Churning Earth

Fire Grab, Ring of Fire > Flame Wall Fire Shield
Frost Aura, Cleansing Wave > Freezing Gust, Comet
RTL, Updraft > Swirling Winds, Gale
Magnetic Wave, Obsidian Armor > Earthquake, Churning Earth defensive Build
Earthquake, Churning Earth > Magnetic Wave, Obsidian Armor Offensive build

Its been accepted by nearly all Ele that our weapon skill, Utilities and Elites are all to long of a cool down but as we are expected (forced!) to just through all the attunements it is considered balcned.

The fact we havw to jump through all these attunements to do the same thing that another class can do in less time without having to swap weapon shows the state of the class and it is in real need of some help – though i highly doubt that help will ever come.

These hacks wont be fixed any time soon – if ever. Look at all the other issues the game has. Compared to PvE WvW has barely got any attention other then the stupid Masteries which not surprising considering its Anet has made things WORSE.

PvE gets all these new events, map areas, Living Story and everything else – what has WvW gotten? ignored thats what.

This would be less of an issue if server populations were more balanced.

Arenanet likes to talk about there being no pay2win in this game, meanwhile people just keep transferring up and up and up.

That way we always have access to all auras despite what weapons we choose to use.

Take it you know that’s already possible? You can get Fire Aura from combo fields and runes, Frost Aura from combos, Shocking Aura from trait and Magnetic Aura from rune. ^^

At a guess i am thinking he means from ONE skill use, not having to use combo fields, traits or a rune set.

If its PvE then it doesnt matter, all the content bar Dungeons and Fracturals until you get Rare/exo gear is easy. Most of the content outside of that can be done without traits or armor…

Aren’t all of the servers you listed basically bottom of the pile and if you get ANY other match up y’all gonna have a really bad time.

Also, theres like a thread with about 1200 posts in about match ups as well as a match up forum section…stop making kitten pointless threads.

The problem being that BOTH FoW and BT out number the 2 other servers by ALOT I mean even if the other 2 servers combined numbers BT/FoW would STILL have more people…

And if you got matched up against anyone else you would be destroyed constantly and in an even worse way. That is life at the bottom of the barrel.

esme, Maguuma was blue last week, red two before that, green, and blue.

However, Mag keeps getting paired up with TC. Out of the last 4 weeks, Mag has been against TC 3 times.

Week 1: FoW Vs Vabbi Vs WSR
Week 2: FoW Vs Vabbi Vs WSR
Week 3: FoW Vs Vabbi Vs WSR

Week 4: BT Vs Vabbi Vs WSR
Week 5 BT Vs Vabbi Vs WSR

I wonder what the chances are of it being BT Vs Vabbi Vs WSR in Week 6. This matchup system is AWFUL, i mean you couldnt even try to make it any worse then it is right now, the sad thing is…I think you have done this on PURPOSE to squeeze as much money from people as you can through Sever transfer

Any thief who gets killed by an Ele is a REALLY bad thief.
Or a condi thief. Which is still really bad.

D/D and D/P thieves should NEVER lose to any kind of eles. The most an Ele could do against one of these thieves is being tanky enough to run to the closest safe point on map. Or just cast your FGS after Shocking Aura.

^ This, sorry but any Thief that dies is either TERRIBLE or unscaled. a level 80 thief Vs a Level 80 Ele should ONLY go one way and thats Thief.

It is going to affect everybody the same way, so relatively speaking it is not a nerf. Actually this fix promotes more thoughtful decision making. It is like when they decided to lock builds in tournaments: now you have to plan, and if you plan poorly then you get poor results.

No its not, Engi and Ele will be hit the most, neither can swap weapons and can only use 2, EVERY other class can use 2-4 weapons. So they can have stacking sigils as well as on swap sigils and others.

It is not a nerf but a well deserved fix. I always hated the idea of having to have an extra weapon in my bags just for this.

It would just be another carebear nerf. That is what it is, not a fix as it was never stated this wouldnt happen. This would do more harm then good for alot of builds

New to elementalist need advice

People claim the elementalist is bad, the worst class currently in the game, requires twice the work than every other class and it has mediocre elite, weapons skills and most useless utilities. Guess what all those things people say about the class is WRONG, the class is far worst than that.

Play other classes, you get more damage, builds, fun cool abilities and you wont be working a harder than anyone for less result.

^ This, The class is VERY weak when it comes to WvW the damage is a joke, the base health is pathetic and seeing as we are stuck with 1 weapon set in combat it means we are at huge disadvantage.

Look at Engineer, without the kits they would be in the same boat, but thanks to them they can do everything we can do but do it better. All our skills, utilities and elites have about 20% to long of a cool down. The fact that with Dagger/Dagger we are FORCED to stay Melee means that we are at a disadvantage against EVERY class as it is – then add onto that the lower health, the longer skill cool downs, the weak utilities and the weak elites and it all adds up…

The class has been going down hill for ALONG time and it has been constantly mentioned that they need some help, nothing has come and personally i dont expect any to come any time soon.

Your best bet would be to reroll, Might want to give Engineer a try.

While it might be the case that the two trade-offs are too strong relative to the first benefit, the second benefit seems unbalanced on its face: where else in the game to you maintain a benefit without the thing granting the benefit being in use? Why should one type of sigil work after returning the weapon to your inventory, but none of the others do?

What if you class mechanic doesn’t have weapon swapping period like the other classes? Elementalists for example, have no choice but to return weapons to inventory if they want to ‘swap’.

Exactly. If this does get changed, then elementalists and engineers need to be given an in combat weapon swap. Otherwise it completely screws over both of those classes and puts them at a disadvantage compared to all the others who can swap weapons. If it’s going to be removed from removing weapons then either give eles and engineers in combat weapon swap, or make the stacks disappear on weapon swap as well.

Its far more of a threat to Ele then it is Engineer. At least they have the option between range and melee combat no matter what weapon they choose thanks to the kits, if an Ele is D/D ALL they can do is Melee

We are aware of this, but it is a non-trivial fix. We are hoping to make changes to this by the end of the year.

PLEASE stop bowing down to these people, this game has had FAR to much carebear nerfs to classes and skills as people refuse to adapt and learn how to counter. Soon they will be asking for Healing skills to be removed, dodging to be removed. You carry on like this and the game will be RUINED!

Their is nothing wrong with the current setup, you might get the extra stats but you also have to work for them and they are lost when you are downed.

If anything it would be nice if you added some for Toughness and Vitality as well, this would be an even greater step towards build diversity.

Don’t bother, they are pretty much the weakest class in the whole game currently. Wait and see what happens with updates first.

Except Staff is laughable, Decrease Attunement swap cool downs and skill, utility and Elite cool downs by 10-20% i mean we have stupidly high cool downs on pretty much everything. I cant think of any skill that that has a reasonable (damage/utility Vs cool down) cool down, they are all simply to long.

On FC we constantly fight higher tiers and I like this matchup system more than the other. It isn’t perfect but it is certainly better. Only people on huge pop server, huh.. I didn’t know FC had a huge population. Maybe they are all hiding in the JPs.

You might be on a decent server for getting people INTO WvW, doesnt mean every server is like it. For example i bet your server would out number mine in WvW…

When it comes to WvW, what action have we seen by Anet to improve it over the last year? in my opinion very little and in ways they have made it WORSE.

Its original CD was excessively low and could be traited to be a 12 second recharge, but 40 seconds (that doesn’t always properly hit and thus reduce recharge) is absurd. And no, fixing the hitbox bugs that trigger recharge reduction will not solve this problem. It needs to be a static 24 seconds, give or take before traits.

why is 12 seconds to excessive?
Ranger Greatsword is 12 seconds (without trait) goes 1100range, is a combo finisher
Warrior Greatsword is 20 seconds (without trait) goes 1200range

The ONE class that has NO option of going between range and melee with D/D and make the skill that is pretty much the SAME as the ones above and give it a cool down that is at least twice as long as just the 2 above is a joke

if it must have the “on hit” thing then it needs to be UNBLOCKABLE or remove it and reduce the overall cool down. 20 seconds before trait seems fair.

In my opinion another reasonable change that could be made:

1) Add projectile reflection for duration
2) Make Stability unremovable (this needs to be done to ALL transformations!)
3) Add a Skill 4 and skill 5

Currently it has skills from Air(#1) and Earth (#2) and (#3) what they could do is add Fire and Water to it, rearrange the skills so that Fire in 1st, Water 2nd, Air 3 and Earth 4 – not sure what the 5th could be though

Fire: Burning Tornado – Adds fire to Tornado, deals damage and adds 5seconds of burning to targets

Water: Frozen Tornado – Adds Ice to Tornado, deals damage and inflicts 2 seconds of Chill to targets

Toughness needs to be increased while in Tornado as well Its just as weak as we are, its nice that it has some other stats increased but it needs to have like the same % increase to Toughness as it does other stats

Those would be people on huge pop servers that get to steam roll people on smaller population servers and those that constantly fight other big servers, everyone hates it!

Devon it’s about time you got your head out of your backside and made some changes, This match-up system is not working.

How long have we, the PLAYERS been telling them that – they just dont care. Plus its Anet knowing them they would change it to something worse. It would be a tough challenge but if anyone would be able to do such a thing it would be Anet.

I’m still waiting for the CD increase on heartseeker spamming runaway thieves, whirlwind/rush warriors, and others. Rush even has range equivalent to the nerfed RTL, on a 20s CD, with no hit/miss penalty.
Why is the ele singled out for “too much” mobility, even when it has the lowest hp and armor? Shouldn’t the ele be at a mobility advantage? What is the tradeoff?

THIS is why Anet should NEVER be allowed to do “Balancing” because they are simply PATHETIC at it. They have no clue what they are doing, bowing down to the casuals crying all the time and look what it has done to the Ele, destroyed it. They have targeted Mesmer now that very soon will be a worthless class as well.

The ONLY class that when they go Melee (Dagger/Dagger) are FORCED to ONLY stay melee thanks to no weapon swap and they nerf the ONE skill that was helpful and very useful both in defense and offense.
