Where did it say “new dungeon”?

This patch looks like another copy paste zerg fest with some new daily big boss that Scarlet created that will just become the new Karka Queen.

Another bombardment of grindy achievements that have you kill or collect [insert number] of things.

More gem store items.

sigh…

No new non-LS stuff?

Personally if they fail to achieve the majority of those 11 things by the end of the year i dont think i will continue playing this game. I’m sick of the developers lying to us, there is no excuse for any of those things to be delayed till next year.

This is really ArenaNets last chance to prove to the majority of the player base that there current method of delivering content fortnightly is not a massive disaster.

I have a feeling that Scarlet will end up siding with us, l dont think we will ever kill her, we will require her help at some stage and she will require our help, we team up and then we will have a Rytlock and Logan style relationship were we hate each other but work together anyway.

My fear is they will introduce the new skills the same way they have added back-pieces and other armour in game… it will be the exact same skill between all classes. No differences at all between classes…

I think its important to raise concern now because this is something ArenaNet is very likely to do.

Also this patch is seriously lacking content, i get the feeling Ascended armour was meant to be added in this patch but because of complaints about how ugly the sets looked they are holding off?

The big question still remains, how will these new feedback features and collaboration differ from the feedback that has already been constructively and maturely given over the last year?

The problem has never been poor communication between developers and players, it has been developers not acting upon feedback. Over the last year constructive, mature feedback has been given, developers have responded, developers acknowledge and promise to do something about said feedback, then developers fail to deliver on said promise.

I feel like this thread has achieved nothing.

Hi Chris, thanks for posting in this thread, its a refreshing change to see the developers talk so candidly to us players.

However…

There has been heaps of discussion on how both the developers and players can communicate better, and that’s fantastic, however over the last year we have been providing feedback on these forums with almost no action taken on serious most talked about/requested issues.

For example, the scavenger hunt and precursor farming, perhaps the most request feature since the launch of the game. You acknowledge in multiple threads in the past that precursors are a problem, you listened to our feedback and responded in the forums (just like you’re doing now) but you did not take any action. none. zero. nada. nothing.

One year later no scavenger hunt, and now precursor farming might be pushed to next year.

Whats the point in providing feedback that you listen to, make promises to fix the problem, then refuse to follow through on that promise?

There is no point asking for feedback if your just going to ignore said feedback.

That is why i remain highly sceptical of this thread, because we have heard promises of collaboration before and nothing came from it.

I hope that this time is different.

First step to building a stronger relationship between developers and the community: admit your mistakes.

Instead of writing this post ArenaNet you should have made a post admitting the hundreds of mistakes you have made over the past year, apologise, then promise to make things better.

The new Tequatl only works as a World of Warcraft style raid.

ArenaNet have two options…

1. make Tequatl instanced and only lootable once a day/week.

2. dramatically nerf it.

As it is now Tequatl is DEAD, and is by the worst thing ArenaNet have done since the launch of the game.

GW2 radically becoming more and more like WoW every patch.

I feel like this is partly a response to the “no crafting precursors this year” comment made by Colin recently.

I believe we can all agree with what you have said Chris, less rage, more maturity and more collaboration.

However like the majority of other people posting i could not help but roll my eyes and chuckle while reading your post. Respect go’s both ways and sadly the community at large feels like the entire ArenaNet team dose not respect its players, you say you’re listening to us yet it dose not show in game or even here on these forums.

I would love for the community and the ArenaNet team to collaborate like it use to back in Alpha and Beta, but after an entire year of broken promises, lies, content being removed, bugs, class imbalance how are we meant to take your post seriously?

It is up to you ArenaNet to win us back, dont through all the blame on us, sadly i think your post has just made things worse.

It should not take this long to fix this massive problem.

Only if it really is a problem. And that’s pretty much a matter of opinion.

GW2 entire end game was designed around cosmetics, working towards your legendary IS part of the end game. The current system to get a precursor is so broken it is impossible for thousands of players to even start working towards end game.

This precursor problem is like Warcraft not having any raids or tiers of gears for an entire year.

So yes this is a massive problem.

Complete nonsensical depiction of the situation – A player begins working towards their end game the moment they start mapcompletion, or earn their first gold, get a T6 mat… The precurosor is 25%-45% or less of the actual Legenday (depending on how you portion the components).

Three methods to get a precursor exist now. Two are RNG based, the third provides inevitability.

  • Random drop
  • Mystic Forge
  • BLTP

Don’t like RNG, the trading post offers an absolute way to acquire one. If a player is incappable, or unwilling to employ any of those methods, that is their problem.

Three solutions (perhaps only 1 viable) solutions already exist to what you call a “problem”.

Using the mystic toilet or other RNG to get a precursor is like telling a homeless man to use lottery tickets to get money and rebuild there life.

And buying one from the TP is not a option for hundreds of thousands of players who will never see more than 50 gold in there life time.

If i get a paper cut on my finger do i cut my entire hand off?

It is a massive problem, the system is broken, there are thousands of players who have managed to get every single item needed to make there Legendary except the precursor. Thousands of players who have stopped playing this game, as they see no point in aiming for something that is currently impossible to get.

I am so glad someone made a thread about this extremely important issue.

This game is meant to be heavily cosmetically focused, this games entire end game purpose is pure cosmetics. No vertical progression. Just aiming to get the best LOOKING armour in game.

It has been one year and they have failed to add any armour in game. This is pathetic.

Gem store dose not count.

Achievement armour rewards dont count either since they look EXACTLY the same between Light, Medium and Heavy and dont even consist of a full set of armour.

For a game that use to pride itself on having no vertical progression and focus on pure cosmetics GW2 has rapidly become the WORST MMO when it comes to character customisation.

We should be seeing a unique full set off armour every month. A set off armour that looks different between Heavy, Medium and Light. They have had multiple opportunity’s to do this.

The constant backpiece spam that we have received over this year is pathetic, i understand why, backpiece items are a lazy way to give us players something new to wear, minimal effort involved and no need to distinguish between Heavy, Medium and Light.

Its lazy, extremely lazy, if this was Guild Wars 1 this would never happen. I expect much more from this game.

It is as simple as this:

ArenaNet dose not care.

Every single update there is a flood of feedback from players to keep the content permanent, ArenaNet ignores this.

Why do they ignore us? I do not know, it is sad that they are tying so hard to kill this amazing game.

There is no justification for removing content, it just shows us ArenaNets lack of commitment and disrespect towards the players.

They can easily keep all the Queens Jubilee content in game, all it takes is for them to change there mind, do the right thing, listen to the players, do what is good, stop destroying this game and start building it up to be the best MMO ever made.

So... everything in this patch is temporary

Queens Jubilee might just be some of the funest, most dynamic, challenging, rewarding content you have added since the launch of this game, there is NO REASON AT ALL for you to remove this content.

/thread.

I’m sure the posters in this thread are aware that it WILL happen, but Anet can still change their rules on how to obtain these ascended pieces and their stat difference… If you don’t speak up and tell someone that they are doing something wrong or make Anet aware that the mass population of their customers have a problem with what they are adding, they will never do anything about it.

They have listened, they have changed the rules, they have added multiple ways of obtaining Ascended items and i bet if they did not listen in the first place they would not be adding the ability to craft Ascended gear too.

The stat differences are already here, that is set in stone and can not be changed, ArenaNet are rushing out the last bits of Ascended gear and making it SUPER easy to obtain, and as there blog post says will focus on traits and skills from now on.

The biggest problem with Orr is Zhaitan and his army of undead.

You can change Orr as much as you like and add in epic rewards but people will still always dislike the place because of the constent zombie theme that has been abused to death.

I think they should rework all off Orrs maps so the land is now healed, introduce Hearts to complete, make it a regular map.

Then introduce NEW level 80 maps with new rewards, tough event chains, new story, so on… you have an entire world out there to explore, we have killed Zhaitan already, we have killed millions of undead… its time to move on and let Orr heal.

Funny that I felt more empathy with those beached whales than I have with the refugees.

This is so true.

I remember maybe 30 plus players spending about two hours running around watering the whales on the beach one night on my server. It was so much fun, people were typing in map chat to “Please come to the beaches of Lions Arch and help us Save the Whales!”, they even lied to people and made them think it was an actual event lol.

The overwhelming majority of players care far more greatly about those whales then they do about these refugees, that is a problem.

Arnath.2319

I should clarify that i like the concept of a Living Story, just not how it is currently designed and implemented.

The Karka event happened too quickly, but for those who were able to attend and did not disconnect, it was one of the most epic mmo experience i have had in my entire life.

Now we have Flame and Frost, no lag, everyone has plenty of time to experience it, but because the story is moving soooooooooooooo slow it completely lacks the excitement, depth, and interaction the Karka event had.

This could have been handled better if the January, February and March patches had been released during the Halloween, Karka and Wintersday patches, with no announcement of these teasers, then it would have created a huge amount of excitement, mystery and speculation amongst players but players would still have the other monthly content to keep them busy and not get bored of the game, because the Living Story by itself as a monthly update gets boring in a matter of hours.

I dont feel connected to the story in game at all. I have had to get all my information about this Living Story from outside the game via blogs, youtube videos and these forums. I had no idea about these collectables until i read it here, its a significant problem.

Besides dungeons, that many people have now become bored of, the Living Story is the only PVE content available to players and i think that is why so many players are disappointed because they were expecting something more… maybe harder challenging encounters, more time consuming, rewards to aim for, in depth lore… stuff like that. I was at least expecting our Personal Story to continue in some way, with the cut scenes and voice acting, maybe even our personal instance getting used once again.

Just imagine logging in just after Wintersday had finished, i get a letter in the mail from this stranger named Braham who has heard of our success with The Pact and needs our help to investigate whats going on. Bring back the cut scenes and voice acting.

Maybe along the way you meet a refugee and after a few personal story stuff you invite them back to your personal home instance to live as a constant reminded of this Living Story, little things like that bring the LIFE into this LIVING story.

Im rambling now so i will end it here lol.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Arnath.2319

The key to understanding the understanding issue is in their recent blog on the Living Story. What they have given us so far are ‘teasers’, not actual content. There is also a reference to developers rolling off other projects now available to expand upon the story. The monthly events had to happen as they are a key value proposition for Anet. So, absent the ability to provide actual content, they occurred as ‘teasers’. I would expect the content to be fleshed out more properly over time and this should make the story more understandable. TLDR: You haven’t been able to get it because there has been nothing to get.

Correct.

And that is exactly why the Living Story is so massively flawed.

What you call “teaser content” we call “lack of content”.

I understand your trying to build hype and suspense for things to come, but the reality is you have given us ONE WEEK worth of content and have stretched it out of the months of January, February and March.

Perhaps if you were advertising a movie, or a new shop about to open this kind of teasing would work very well. But this is a GAME, we wont monthly content that actually gives us content that LASTS A MONTH!

Two things that need to happen to fix the Living Story:

1. MORE CONTENT. The lack of content right now in this game is deeply disturbing, other MMO’s are doing are far superior job at releasing far greater and better quality content.

2. Traditional quests. The Living Story right now is confusing, empty, massive disaster. I think traditional quests like in Guild Wars 1 and other mmo’s are needed to help us the player feel more immersed in the story, the action, the characters.

As it is right now the Living Story is one of the most poorly implemented and poorly designed features in MMO’s history. Whoever thought giving us one weeks worth of content and stretching it over 4 months was a good idea should be fired immediately.

This Living Story should have evolved over 4 weeks not 4 months.

Right now this “Living” Story is dead, it is so incredibly boring and poorly implemented.

January: You go to the location talk to one or two people and then there is nothing to do for a month.

February: Go to the location kill a few people, get bored in 30minutes, nothing to do for the rest of the month.

March: Two new characters introduced, let me guess what is going to happen… we go to a location talk to this new person, possibly one new event that we will be bored off in 10minutes, nothing to do for the rest of the month.

This “Living” Story, is slow, dull, stale, painful, poorly designed and poorly implemented.

If it unfolded over 4 weeks at least it would be moving fast enough for us to have a mild interest.

Considering the Living Story is one the most boring things every implemented into a mmo this patch is very underwhelming.

Is the Living Story update the only thing this month?

We were promised an expansions worth of content, and if you combine the January, February and now March patches we have not even seen a quarter of content that an expansion should bring.

I agree with the original poster, i no longer trust the developers of this game.

For me personally this game has been slowly dying since November and despite many people giving the developers constructive criticism they just ignore it completely or even delete the thread, because apparently you are not aloud to say anything negative about this game on these forums without it being seen as “breaking the rules”.

They have become very good at creating hype, they also assume that everything they do is grand, fantastic and fun, they assume that we will automatically love everything they do. Now to be fare all advertising people do this, but i thought ArenaNet were above that, at least they use to be.

Take a look at ALL there blog posts, they NEVER give any specific detail and get us excited about something that we know nothing about. They consistently lie and retract promises they made.

Also, i agree with other people posting here that Martins response to this thread was very immature and unprofessional, he even threatened the original poster. Completely unacceptable and only adds fuel to the fire. Martin should apologise.

If this is how ArenaNet treats its customers what hope is there for this games survival.

If ArenaNet took PVE in this game serious the January update would have included the ENTIRE Flame and Frost story line, maybe stretch it over to February but no longer.

They would have also added in at least one new dungeon preferably in relation to the Flame and Frost story line, if not that then at the very least a new fractal.

They promised to revamp all the original dungeons but that could be months away, and with there current obsession in focusing ALL there development time to PVP it looks like PVE will remain almost non existent in this game.

Even when the revamp dungeons finally come who will really care? Unless they are 100% redone with new bosses, story, loot, different paths to follow and new mechanics NO one will run them and it would be a waste of developers time.

It makes me so sad to say this but currently Guild Wars 2 has the worst PVE in the history of MMO’s.

Its not wise, when you look at other MMO’s they are delivering significantly more content much faster than Guild Wars 2, its depressing as this game did have a strong start with the promise off fast content being delivered to players.

But sadly i would say Guild Wars 2 is now the worst MMO when it comes to delivering fast new significant content.

Im starting to think there is no point playing this game anymore as clearly the developers have no interest in PVE.

We were promised an “expansion worth of content”, ArenaNet has failed to deliver on this promise thus far.

Pretty sure there is going to be PvE content. You must not have installed the latest patch or something.

The new Laurel vendor is not new content, its just a very simple improvement on existing daily quests to encourage us to play old content.

As for the “living story” running around the map doing nothing but talking to a few npcs, something that can be completed in a matter of minutes and then forever ignored should not be labelled “new content”, its an embarrassment.

Not since Fractals has PVE had anything added, meanwhile PVP in the last two months has had multiple of changes, new maps and gameplay.

Dont get excited, we will not see any new content till late February or early March.

Currently they are focusing on trying to fix some of the games core problems (something they should off done before releasing the game).

This months update will be mostly bug fixes and “game fixes”.

So sadly nothing to do until March, hopefully the “expansion worth of content” was not a lie, i got this horrible feeling they might think bug fixes and game fixes count as new content, if that is true then there will be many unhappy players. For example, this new vendor that was previewed is not new content, its just a “game fix” luring us into old content.

But there is no subscription fee so play other games and come back when things get fun again thats my plan

Heaps about what they would LIKE to do, almost nothing about what they WILL do.

There is already a HUGE list of features we have been tolled they would LIKE to add yet they have failed to deliver on, will this just add to that list? We will have to wait and see.

With all the hype surrounding these updates, the rapidly decline of people playing this game, and the increasing amount of negativity this blog post dose very little to address the core problems this game has and the concerns of the average player.

Where is the “expansion worth of content” we were promised? This was meant to outline the plans for the first half of the year, i dont see how grinding for a “Endless cat tonic” is in anyway considered fun or gives us any incentive to log on every day.

With what they outlined in this blog post they will be giving us roughly one week worth of content before once again there is nothing to do. What about those who have all ready explored the world, this update brings very little to them.

Also the main problem i have with these updates is how delayed it is, these issues should have been dealt with before the game was launched, not months later.

Everyone hates Fractals now, people have realised that there is no point going past level 10 and stopped playing.
It is impossible to get a group for any other dungeon.

The only thing i dont do is PVP, and i doubt every single player on my server is doing PVP, so i must just be on a dead server then, maybe its time to start merging servers?

But back on topic, they may as well put the Scavenger Hunt on hold until the first expansion comes out and use it for the new legendaries.

Right now there is a HUGE number of quick easy things that can be added to fix the precursor problem, there really is NO EXCUSE for them not fixing this problem months ago. I will avoid going into conspiracy theories, but legendaries have been one epic disaster and make this game look bad.

At first it was “two HUGE updates with content equal to a EXPANSION!”, now its a tiny boring patch at the end of January and nothing exciting till March. And now no plans to implement the scavenger hunt for six months. Meanwhile they are going to make precursors drop as rewards from the world, that will only make those people who terrorise the Trading Post even richer.

Times running out, the game is dying, the servers are empty, no one plays anymore, its even impossible to get a group for Fractals, the longer we are made to wait for new GOOD content the more players leave, i dont think people have the patience to wait till March and beyond for change.

Its scary and extremely disappointing to see WoW delivering faster and better content then this game… and i hate WoW.

Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013

So we have to wait 2 weeks into Jan. to only just find out what will be released (which will be small) and it won’t be released in these two weeks. I give you an A+ for procrastination.

This is what concerns me too, im very happy that that Colin took the time to help lower peoples expectations about the upcoming content, its best to get that out of the way now so people dont feel disapointed later on.

However, waiting till February/March for new content scares me, WintersDay got extremely boring as soon as Tixx reached Lions Arch, now this months patch will be tiny with no serious content till March? That is a extremely long time to wait for new content.

But we dont know the details, maybe this months small patch will give us enough things to do until the bigger updates later on, but until we know the details there is no point logging on sadly.

What is the dev team currently working on?

They are filming a revised Manifesto video.

I would seriously really like to see this, after the Ascended gear controversy it would be great if they could give us a look at the direction this game is heading in 2013.

Also, its great to hear we will receive more information “in the coming weeks”, bad sadly doesn’t this mean there will be no new content till late January? So nothing to do till the end of the month

IF people are Expecting some huge Things coming oh my

your gonna get disappointed…………. and this time its Anets fault for using the words Like an !Expansion!

This is my concern too, there are some people thinking we will receive a new class or race to play with, or the Crystal Dessert opening up, or a new Elder Dragon, and its all because they used the word “Expansion”.

I can foresee lots of complaining on the forums about the lack of content come release.

I am starting to think these “2 big updates for January and February” we were promised will really be ONE update launched at the end of January and continuing through till February.

They said the fractal changes will not come into effect till the end of this month, plus on there Facebook page they have a poll to select what member of Destiny’s Edge will be there Facebook cover, normally the Facebook cover would advertise that months event. Also the monthly achievement for January has nothing related to any special event unlike previous monthly’s.

So sadly i have a horrible feeling we will be very bored till late January, maybe even the very last week of January, and this “2 huge patches” was a lie.

What the Orr.....

I said this in another thread but i think they should redesign Orr so the water from the Source of Orr has spread throughout the land and healed it.

The land is now 80% healed, the water and oceans surrounding the land are completely healed, Hearts have been added all over the three maps, new dynamic events, Arah dungeon revamped to match the updated story (perhaps Trahearne go’s insane and tries to bring Zhaitan back to life so we have to kill Trahearne in the dungeon haha).

Considering all three of Orr’s zones are dead, no one plays there, every waypoint is contested, and people complain there is lack of end game, revamp Orr, give it life again, fix its current problems and make people love going there.

I am really sick an tired of ArenaNet permanently banning players for there own mistakes. Its childish, pathetic and unprofessional.

January Update Speculation

This is a big idea but…

I would LOVE to see Orr redesigned, the land is now healed, the water from the source of Orr has spread, Zhaitan is defeated.

Currently no one go’s to Orr any more, there is no reason to go there even if there was so many people hate the place now. So give the place a makeover, add in hearts and change the dungeon and personal story.

One of this games big selling points was watching the world change around you, well we have defeated Zhaitan and cleansed Orr so when are we going to see it take effect?

If new expansion hits in 2-3 months...

If new expansion hits in 2-3 months… then there is no point in me working towards making a legendary.

New expansion = new legendaries, new and fresh is always cooler, people want what most people dont have, they want to stand out.

So basically for 99% of players we might as well give up on our legendaries until the next expansion.

I think you have it confused with other games where your legendary becomes obsolete at expac.

Your legendary will always be BIS here in GW2.

When it comes to stats that is true, but cosmetically when new legendary greatsword skins are released it will become “uncool” to own a Twilight or Sunrise. Everyone will want the new shiny graphic to show off.
