Guardians: Dear Devs, for years now we have been asking for Spirit Weapons to be fixed, can we please finally get a rework in this patch?

Devs: Here have a few seconds off Signets cooldown and shutup!

Guardians: …… thanks?

"Dragonhunter... solid impact in many areas"

“dragonhunter elite specialization has proven to have a very solid impact in many areas of the game” -Karl McLain 2016

We need to have a serious talk about this quote.
This is a worrying sign that the developers lack awareness of the current poor state Guardians and Dragonhunters are in.

Last year before Leagues started they clearly said that if any profession under-performs during a PvP season they would make sure to address those concerns in the balance patch.

So why then has Dragonhunters been neglected?

Dragonhunter/Guardian are currently completely worthless in competitive PvP.
We are also currently completely worthless in PvE.

It has been this way since HoT launch and i refuse to spend another three months on the bench.

We deserve to know how Karl and the other devs came to this conclusion that we are having a “solid impact in many ares”? Where are they getting their information? Is this game balanced around competitive PvP? Or is it balanced around Amber players who AFK in Traps then flood the forums with immature complaints?

Half our Skills, Traits and Weapons need redesigns, fixes, or adjustments, we need the devs to read our forums and listen to our concerns. For years Guardians have been ignored, enough is enough.

This is really embarrassing for the devs, they hyped these balance patches so much and yet these list of changes are so insignificant they could have been patched in with Wintersday.

It is disgusting to try and pass this balance patch as a major feature.

Guardians desperately need major changes, i don’t want to spend the next three months worthless in PvP and PvE, we have already been worthless since HoT launch!

Where are the devs? Why are they ignoring our forums? Why is there literally ZERO communication?!

  • Spirit Weapons STILL need a complete redesign.
  • Signets STILL need a complete redesign.
  • All our one-handed weapons need adjustments.
  • Half our Traits need redesign.
  • We need sustainable damage, less burst damage!
  • We need a viable role to play in raids!
  • We need to be competitive in high-end PvP!

Why are Guardians the number one most neglected and hated profession by the devs?

Spirit Weaponry, once more.

My suggestion:

Buff the Command effects. We no longer summon Spirit Weapons, the instant Command effect IS the skill. Once you use the Command effect a “lingering spirit stays with you aiding you in battle”, this will be the Spirit Weapon we know today. It will do its passive effect until killed or timer runs out. Lower the cooldown on all Spirit Skills and the cooldown starts instantly when the Command is first used.

This puts the majority of the strength of the skill in the instant Command with the Lingering Spirit Weapon an added effect.

Kinda like Mesmer Illusions except we can not control Spirit Weapons anymore, the strength is 80% in the instant command.

No longer have to waste time summoning the weapons, less worry on if they die because the instant Command carried the weight of the skill.

For example:

Bow of Truth – Summon a barrage of healing arrows at the target location healing allies and curing X condition/s. 40 second cooldown. The Bows Lingering Spirit remains healing individual allies and removing conditions for 10 seconds or until destroyed.

Sword of Justice – Instantly strike your enemy for X damage, applying vulnerability and searing a Symbol into the ground. 20 second cooldown. The Swords Lingering Spirit remains striking foes you hit applying vulnerability, remains for 15 seconds or until destroyed.

Talents could increase the Lingering Spirits duration so you could have the Sword out all the time, 20 second cooldown and 20 second Lingering Spirit, for example.

Balance Goals for the Winter 2016 Update

Guardians are worthless in high-end PvP.

Guardians are worthless in Raids.

Anyone saying Guardians/DH should be nerfed clearly knows nothing about balance. This game shouldn’t be balanced around noobs who get wrecked by Traps because they are unable to dodge role. DHs are the most easiest class to counter, they are super mega squishy.

The only reason, and truly the ONLY reason DH is getting nerfed, is because of noobs who can’t even make Ruby rank and AFK in Traps came to the forums and cried, they flooded the forums with tears forcing the devs to act, even tho DH are 100% useless in high-end PvP.

If core Guardian isn’t buffed, this class will be the worst in GW history. Worse then Thiefs currently are.

This official confirms that Guardians will be the worst profession in game when this patch goes live.

We will be worse then Thiefs or Warriors currently are.

Traps were the single thread holding this profession from falling into the abyss, i’m not saying they didn’t deserve changes, but with zero compensation to the rest of the Guardian this profession will be the most broken in GW2 history.

We are already useless in raids, we are already useless in high-end PvP, over half of our talents/traits/weapons/skills are either broken or useless, and now they wont to remove the only semi-optimal option Guardians have left with zero compensation elsewhere?!

Whats the point in playing this game when the devs clearly have no idea what they are doing.

Overly dramatic are we?

It’s not overly dramatic when it’s factually correct.

Guardians are currently being denied raid spots and we have no place in high-end PvP, any nerfs made with no significant compensation will kill this profession completely.

I would be okay with a Trap nerf if, and only if, they do the following:

  • Rework Spirit Weapons completely to make them viable.
  • Improve Scepter and Sword.
  • Fix/Rework all our broken/useless traits.
  • Buff/fix our sustainable damage.
  • Compensation to Traps to keep them viable after the nerf.

Unfortunately…join the club. Tons of people with high end computers who never used to crash are now crashing all the time since HoT was released. I don’t think Anet is really saying much about it. Hopefully that means they are busy working on it. Hoping.

This.

If this was a gem store issue it would have been fixed over night.

Hey ArenaNet, fix the crashes and i will promise to buy gems.

OOM error crash.

I have also seen this happen once.

Not a single problem in the years of playing GW2 and now HoT release has broken something.

Adding my support to Kylden post.

This is 100% ArenaNets problem, not a single problem for the past three years and now with HoT crashes constantly.

I have been sending all my crash reports to ArenaNet with my email attached, yet one week in and still no response.

Again ArenaNet is 100% completely utterly to blame for these crashes, there isn’t much we can do but wait for them to fix it.

I have been tolled this is an ArenaNet problem, a memory leak or something my friend told me.

Crashes are still happening, and once again this never happened before HoT launch.

I have been playing since GW2 launch with my settings on max with not a single problem ever.

Now with HoT my game crashes roughly every two hours, it seems to happen in highly dense player areas such as Auric Basin, it also happened during Mad King says.

I am also getting some weird graphical bugs, for example my back item Wings of Dwayna randomly disappears sometimes, today my weapon on my back disappeared.

I have played in highly populated areas with not a single problem for years, i was even stable during that big one time Karka event near launch.

Please help?

You cant play difficult end game content in a MMO?

I think you are playing the wrong genre of game.

Why are the hero points so hard?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Arnath.2319

Arnath.2319

Because people have been begging for more difficult content since day one and now that they have it they cry like babies.

Also the map system is currently broken leaving maps with less players making them feel empty, once that is fixed it will be super easy.

No one complained when they were unlocking their character from lvl 1-80. Why should elite specs be different?

I have yet to see a single logical reason why things should be changed. All i am seeing is a mob of angry spoiled children with a mob like mentality because everything isn’t handed to them for free within the first few days of launch… over a weekend… that the devs are working overtime to keep the servers stable, how selfish and impatience can you people be?

Go play the game, even the most casual of all casual players can easily unlock the full elite spec in as little as week, i’m a casual player and i have already unlocked everything, it is super mega easy, almost too easy!

Pls listen to the other half of the com. too!

Arnath.2319

Agreed, keep it as it is!

Personally i think it is way too easy to unlock elite specs, i have been playing the last few days, casually, and i have already unlocked everything.

If the children complaining spent less time raging on these forums they would have all their elite specs unlocked within a week… then they would come back on these forums and complain that there is nothing to do because that’s the kind of people were dealing with here lol.

Fragments of Faith should be triggered from allies not enemies, fully commit to its defensive nature. Same for Purification.

Dragonhunter updates, post BWE3 (launch)

Arnath.2319

These changes do nothing to make Dragon Hunter a viable PvE option.

Is the Dragon Hunter designed to be purely a PvP spec?

If so tell us so we can stop providing feedback, accept it, and then move on. Don’t drag us along with the false idea that the Dragon Hunter should be PvE viable.

Traps are still terrible, mechanically they are flawed, slapping random boons on them will not make them viable.

Adding a pull on F1 is a lazy fix to make Traps more attractive, players were already using Wings of Resolve to get into melee.

The only slightly positive change is ‘Pure of Sight’, largely because even with the Longbow we are always heavily in melee, particularly if Traps insist on staying melee. However it is still a boring trait, ‘Defenders Dogma’ needs changing too.

Overall Dragon Hunter is still a terrible elite spec (for PvE) and until Karl or other devs clarify that the Dragon Hunter is not meant to be for PvE i will continue to fight for it’s viability.

I wonder how long until this thread gets locked just like the “rip the only useful trap” thread. I’m not saying it should, but the devs don’t seem to like us talking about how unfair we are treated.

I think i will stop playing and create a Revenant instead in HoT.

For years we asked for Gardians to be fixed only for them to give everything we ever wanted to other professions, combine this with our terrible elite spec. I’m done.

I have confidence that the reason we’ve yet to hear any responses by the Devs to our most recent feedback is because they’re likely taking time to really think over their decisions. Anything they now do with Dragonhunter will have to be mulled over a bit because of the history of negative reactions to this elite and the looming release date. I’m happy with waiting as long as they’re really thinking things through and not just scanning the feedback. No doubt they have an overwhelming work load right now.

I hope so.

But considering what Karl said at the beginning of this thread i doubt it, looks like they don’t want to make any changes because launch is so close.

Just want to say that there are those who love Dragonhunter.

Traps are AWESOME! Crazy powerful.

You have already lost all credibility.

Thematically, they are similar in concept to Necromancer marks, but use Smite magic fitting for the Guardian.

Except Marks are far superior in every way.

Spear of Justice is vastly superior for a condition build.

This is proof that you do not understand this class, Spear of Justice is TERRIBLE for condi builds. To play a successful condi Guardian you go Virtue traitline and NEVER use your F1, you rely entirely on the passive effect and the traits that buff that passive.

The Dragonhunter traitline is very good.

Stop… please stop. My head hurts.

This
I am really concerned about these people feeling dh is somewhat good.
It is as if we do not play the same game.
I am mostly pvp / wvw (roaming and raid)

I have been trying kitten dh with meditation with traps or even with shouts on tanky and dps builds…everything is just a huge blast of innefficiency.
Crappy damage at the cost of loosing efficient sustain and support.
I still don’t get how people manage to get high damage on longbow 2. With the time of chanelling I have same dps landing two aa in the same time.
Virtue casting time is a massive nerf to our survivability. (remember that positionning in gw2 is of very litlle added value with all insta teleport flying around)
Rooting skills is just a nogo on any semi correct oponent.
Traps…I see one thing efficient for trap which is bad design to be honest : test of faith with 10 dh staking it it can be a zerg killer. While subpar in almost all other scenario it will be nerfed to uselessness without compensation as usual.

How on earth can people enjoy the hypothetical new content that is about to be given to us ? I really hope I am mistaken…because otherwise hot will just be a “thank you guy but reroll to enjoy”
This I am not pleased to feel forced this way and will not commit.

I can’t stand crap like this. You are perfectly welcome to not agree with his opinion or assessment of the DH, but people are allowed to enjoy things you don’t. It has no affect on how you play the class so lighten up.

This, so much this. Just because you don’t like it does not mean other people are not allowed to like it, you people need to get over yourselves, the game is not designed specifically for YOU.

@OP, glad you had fun.

Except the OP is making a thread on the official forums deliberately misleading the devs into thinking the DH is in a good place.

It is hard enough as it is to get the devs to recognize the long list of problems this profession has without these misleading threads.

The OP will still have just as much fun playing the DH when it its fixed.

Not a single Guardian or Dragon Hunter in the world first raid kill.

I tolled you this would happen, with the constant nerfs to Guardians, the horrible Dragon Hunter, the constant power creep every other profession has received, and the new powerful elite specs others have received, there is no reason to bring us anymore to PVE content.

What is the role of the Dragon Hunter?

It offers less DPS, less group support, less healing, less everything! Our core traits, skills and virtues are far superior in every way! The only reason to go DH is if you want to roleplay or do open world zerg content.

what professions were used?

“Group comp, 4 Condi Engi (1 tankier hybrid), 3 Revenants, 1 Druid, 1 Chronomancer, 1 Warrior. Everyone was in Berserker, except the Condi Engis of course.”

Dragon hunter Bleh!

Arnath.2319

This isn’t monster hunter. And he isn’t wrong. There is a consensus in the community that it simply does not fit the class. There will not be a single DH build that will replace current guardian builds in any meta. You could argue that bow had some niche usages but is not optimal in any situation. Even at kiting instances id prefer getting mobility from shouts and using a scepter/focus.

You’re right, this isn’t Monster Hunter. It also isn’t Silent Hill, and yet the inspiration for the Reaper it still is. The concept of Dragonhunter works within Guild War 2’s combat system. Plenty of people have made it work.

On the subject, no, there isn’t a consensus amongst the community. To think so would be blind to almost any thread about the DH. Elite specializations aren’t designed to replace the current meta (for however long that actually lasts). So of course no DH build will replace anything. The whole idea is to add, not replace.

Except it adds nothing, by specing into DH you are actually taking away, sacrificing a far better core trait line and better virtues. You are deliberately nerfing yourself going DH.

Some people have made it work in rare circumstances in PVP, but thats it, to say “Plenty of people have made it work” is a lie.

We need 25% run speed on Dragonhunter.

in Guardian

Posted by: Arnath.2319

Arnath.2319

I agree with the run speed, it should replace one of the minor traits.

As for Virtues i think some of the talents in the Virtue trait line should be made baseline, for example ‘Inspired Virtue’. The Virtue traitline needs a revamp considering the new DH Virtues have cast-times and other clashing problems.

I think the cooldown on them is okay, but i would like to see the passive effects remain even once activated. This would make some Traits viable and open up some more interesting builds/gameplay.

Arnath.2319

Traps need to be ground targeted, this isn’t up for debate, in order for Traps to be even remotely viable they must be ranged.

Purification- Triggers from allies not enemies. Heals 5 allies in the blast radius, removing conditions and granting Resistance.

Fragments of Faith- Triggers from allies not enemies. Grants 5 allies aegis in the blast radius, also scatters 5 aegis fragments.

Procession of Blades- Triggers from enemies. Whirl Finisher. Hits apply bleed.

Traits also need major changes. Start with replacing ‘Defenders Dogma’ and ‘Pure of Sight’.

Defenders Dogma- Aegis applied to yourself also gives Swiftness.

Pure of Sight- Bonus damage while wielding a two-handed weapon.

Also Virtues have to be instant cast, if the cast time remains come Traits are completely useless.

Deflecting Shot needs to be slower. Symbol velocity needs to be faster. The CC on Hunters Ward need to be applied at the start not the end.

Change ‘Symbol of Energy’ to ‘Symbol of Judgment’.

Dragonhunter is shaping up and with practice will be a deadly competitor in every mode.

Except PVE.

Dragon Hunter is easily the worst elite spec out of all of them, yes other elite specs have their problems, but the Dragon Hunter is a epic train-wreck that only kinda works in PVP in rare circumstances.

People need to stop saying “Dragon Hunter will be good with practice, you’re just a noob” this has nothing to do with lack of experience, this elite spec is just pure garbage. We are educated adults who have played this game for three years, we know when something is good/viable or not.

We’ll also continue to review and update, as necessary, after launch as well. Cheers, Karl

This upsets me.

For months now feedback has been overwhelmingly negative regarding Traps, calls for them to be complete replaced, redesigned, hundreds of posts giving wonderful constructive ideas, and yet nothing… silence.

Now mere days before launch you tell us that nothing large can be changed, knowing that Traps NEED to be replaced or redesigned.

It looks like you deliberately avoided all Trap feedback on purpose until this time where you can now use the excuse “its to late to make changes”.

I am extremely disappointing that we have been so blatantly ignored and poorly handled. The way the Guardian community has been so rudely treated in recent months is appalling.

How many times in how many different ways do we have to say it? Traps are bad!

So, less than a month until HoT

…. and we still have no word on trap updates or what direction they are going to take. None of the classes are 100% ready for launch (except maybe Reaper and Chrono) but I feel after BWE3, all of them will be… except DH. Of course there will still be tweaks and touch ups to all of the specs and classes after launch but I feel like we are being so left in the dark with this.

Is the DH feedback THAT negative that DH has just been pushed aside? Reading that theres basically no changes to them for BWE3 means we really have nothing to talk about. Sorry for rant. continue your day

We have no word? We have LOTS of word … go read the BWE3 stickied thread. We know we are getting trap changes and will have the opportunity to test them this weekend in BWE3. If you feel you’ve been left in the dark, just take one step out into the light. Anet HAS given us the information you think they haven’t.

Edit: Oh, nevermind … seems you’ve been posting in that thread where the ‘not-given’ information on trap updates was actually given to us by Anet in the first post. I’m going to assume you’ve missed it. I recommend you read it.

Those “changes” are laughable. They do nothing to address any of the problems Traps have.

I am with Azure, no word on fixing Traps in months. Last Beta weekend and they are still 100% useless.

Our only hope is if they have been secretly working on a revamp in the background, hopefully we will get some news on that after this beta.

You know for a brief second i thought we might see some positive changes, but no… more nerfs, shield is still garbage.

This profession is officially dead, this is no exaggeration, with the upcoming elite specs Guardians are now 100% worthless.

Aegis on shield #4 single-handely makes shield awesome. Moving bubble is a nice extra on top of it (for PvE, it’ll be awesome in PvP).

Hardly, if anything Shield 2 is now worse then it was. If it’s only going to last 1 second it should at least make us and everyone in the bubble immune to all damage. A pathetic projectile absorb is nothing these days considering almost every profession now has access to it.

And 4 seconds of Aegis? LOL! Focus is far superior.

Druid is insanely over powered and will be mandatory in all game modes, this goes against ANets goal of not sitting around waiting for that one player to log on in order for you to do content.

It will be heavily nerfed, or they might buff other classes healing capabilities to match it.

Also the upcoming profession changes segment better announce reworked shield and spirit weapons or i will riot.

^^ I read it and it doesn’t make any sense IMO.

So change traps to marks which will MAKE them visible, then create a GM trait to make them invisible. … Because that’s somehow BETTER than having traps that are ALREADY invisible without a GM trait.

Um, no.

Marks are far superior. The only advantage Traps have is them being invisible, which is only useful in PVP, that is why i suggested making a trait making them invisible for those PVP players.

Marks are ground target-able, blast radius, instant effect, short cooldown, condi heavy skills that thematically fit this elite spec better.

Word of advice, avoid reddit, so many destructive comments from players deliberately trying to derail the discussion.

The range increase on Wings is nice, but Traps still need an urgent redesign.

I think it is time to make them Marks with an optional Grand Master trait that makes them invisible to enemies.

This has been in discussion for a bit. Now’s a good time to check it out, being as there’s a lot of conversation on it here already.

You know what else has been discussed heavily for the past two beta weekends? How garbage Traps are!
