Black Lion Salvage Kit - A bad investment?

in Crafting

Posted by: Artemis Noir.3804

Artemis Noir.3804

In my opinion its only good for extracting expensive sigils.
I would never ever use a mystic salvage kit to extract a superior rune of divinity for example. 80% chance when it comes to managing that amount of money is too risky for me.

As for ecto making, its defiantly a lot better than the other competitors but as of right now if you don’t get it for free from a chest then its not worth it.

Excepting perhaps Superior Runes of Divinity, I don’t think the BL kit is even worth it for expensive upgrades. Considering that right now 100 gems are costing upwards of 1.50 Gold it’s cheaper to chance it with 80%, and failing that, to simply buy most upgrades from the TP. If the current gem prices continue, BL kits won’t even be worth acquiring for Superior Runes of Divinity.

I really can’t think of a bigger waste of money than the BL Salvage kits.

How to get Rare items?! 78% mf

I have a complete set of MF gear on my ranger, including a superior luck sigil on a bow, that I use exclusively for farming (never in anything like a dungeon). When I add a 30% food buff and a 10% guild banner I do notice a difference in the value of my drops.
However, quite honestly, I find that what has the biggest impact on loot is not MF at all, but rather, being in a full group.
Also, I have found that in order to even see the effects of MF, you need to have it over 100.

TP Preview: When?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Artemis Noir.3804

I know this has come up before, but given that it is also currently under discussion in the Preview thread asking that all armour previews be restored.. I figured it was time to post it under a separate topic.

So as the title asks, when will we be able to preview items in the TP? We can already preview items at armour/weapon vendors, karma vendors and in our own inventories; is it really THAT difficult to extend the same function to the TP? Just about every other MMO (most of which were released years ago) I have played allows you to preview items in the auction house, and for a game like this one.. that is so heavily focused on cosmetics, it really makes no sense at all that we can’t.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the TP existing across all servers causes an issue. I can’t imagine why this would be the case, but, then again, I’m no programmer.

Posting here again, because it would be very nice to get some kind of official response on this.

I am typically very supportive of GW2 and Anet… but I think this is a REALLY stupid decision (assuming it’s not a bug). For the love of Dwayna and all that is holy, please change it back…

I really do not think it is a luxury in any MMO to be able to preview a piece of gear, regardless of whether your character can actually wear it…. and regardless if said item happens to be at a vendor, in your inventory…. or cough cough at the Trading Post. This is even more true in a game that is, in large part, cosmetically driven.

Black Lion Salvage Kit - A bad investment?

Artemis Noir.3804

Could not agree more, especially given the current price of gems.
I actually take it one step further. For the last few weeks my salvaging luck with the Master’s kit has been so bad that I have simply been selling my rares. Right now one rare sells for slightly less than the cost of an ecto. Perhaps that is not a great return, but at least it is a guaranteed return.

A while ago I was lucky and received a couple of Black Lion salvaging kits for my dailies completion in two consecutive nights. Even with the BL kits, my salvage rate is still abysmal these days.. so I find it far more worthwhile to just sell the yellow stuff.

People, Up Your Buy Price

in Crafting

Artemis Noir.3804

NO! Lower your sell price!!

I’m hardly a profit-driven player…

However, I am not going to craft an item and then sell it for LESS than what it cost to make, sorry.
If I go to the time and effort of crafting something that I plan to sell, I want to make at least a bit of gold. Otherwise, what is the point? This isn’t a charity…especially considering the current price of crafting mats.
I suggest you take a look at the crafting recipes at GW2 database and then research the cost of those mats on the TP….

I seriously do not understand all of the low-ball orders I see on the TP. Were I placing a custom order on an item I would check the way the prices were trending, and then I would make my minimum price a little less than that of the current lowest seller. When I place something on the TP I always look at the orders, and if somebody has ordered something for a small percentage less than the going rate I will often sell said item to them. It’s easier for me because I don’t have to worry about the next seller undercutting me, nor do I have to worry about reposting. In that situation it’s a win/win all round.

Extended Potions: Why Soul Bound ?

in Crafting

Posted by: Artemis Noir.3804

Artemis Noir.3804

I recently made a batch of extended potions (undead), and I was going to give them to an alt who spends a rather significant amount of time in Orr. However, this was not possible because the potions are Soul Bound.

This makes no sense to me… I’m not certain they even need to be bound at all, but please, if they are going to be bound… make them Account Bound rather than Soul Bound.

Yes, I know that the normal potions can be given, traded etc. However, that two hour duration is nice.. it would be great to be able to share them with alts.

Best craft to earn gold?

in Crafting

Posted by: Artemis Noir.3804

Artemis Noir.3804

There is absolutely no point in crafting if you plan to use it as a direct way to gain gold.
However… depending on your play style and addiction to multiple alts, it can be worthwhile. You need to think of it as an investment rather than a way to turn an instant profit.
Bear with me…
It takes anywhere between three and six gold to level a craft, or less if you farm all of the mats yourself. The average crafted exotic weapon or armour piece on the TP typically costs anywhere between three and six gold. I have found that I can usually make an exotic item for about half of what it would take to buy it.
If you use multiple weapons and you have numerous alts…crafting becomes very much worth it.
Also, and this is significant these days, if you can craft rare weapons or armour….. you can salvage the results.

So far I have mastered all of the crafts except one. I have no regrets.

I too would like to chime in. In an otherwise VERY nice patch… this was a puzzling change. I used the armour preview function all the time when determining if I should keep a piece for an alt. Please change it back, or if it is a bug, please fix it.

And on the subject of previews… it would be really nice to be able to preview items in the TP.
I’m a bit perplexed as to why we don’t already have this ability; we can preview items in every other capacity, so why not the TP? Does its cross server setup cause issues with being able to preview things?

I tend to prefer keeping my characters in more concealing armours; however, this is not because I am prude. (I’m actually anything but)
Rather, while I would not as such call myself an RPer, I do RP to a certain point and for me, personally, I like my characters to appear reasonably well protected.

Nonetheless, aesthetics are always subjective and I don’t have an issue with those who prefer the skimpier designs. I would just like to see the range of choices expanded so that most tastes are adequately represented.

Artemis Noir.3804

Should be awarded best RPG of all time.

Up there with BG1-2 and probably beats planescape: torment. Much better story and character customisation, not to mention the combat is much more advanced.

I personally believe that despite its flaws (and let us be honest, basically any MMO is a WIP, especially in the early months) GW2 very much deserves its accolades. It does so much right. GW2 is the only MMO to have ever held my attention at a sustained level.

That being said, bearing in mind that such things are very subjective, I disagree entirely with your comment
First, comparing GW2 to the Black Isle titles of the late 90s/early 2000s is like comparing guava to cranberries. The BG series and PS:T are old, single player RPGs heavily based on the second edition D&D ruleset. There is no way you could expect the combat and character customization from those old games to bare even a remote similarity to ANY modern game. That kind of comparison is simply unfair.
As to story.. no GW2 does not beat either the BG series or Planescape Torment. It especially does not surpass Planescape Torment. PS:T’s entire foundation rests on narrative, and it refutes a great many fantasy tropes. As good as GW2 is, it does none of the above.

This, precisely.

Yes, there are issues the devs need to pay attention to. For example, a number of the classes need a little TLC. However, despite what your impression might be from reading all of the negativity expressed here, GW2 is a really good game. Hope you enjoy the game. I don’t know how difficult it is to get on these days, but I “live” on Tarnished Coast. While the starting areas are not as busy as at launch, there are definitely people around. As others have mentioned, the human areas seem to be the most populous.

Bear in mind also that while it can be fun to group in this game, most PvE content (excluding dungeons) is actually fairly easy to solo, which means you will not be dependent on grouping in order to level.

I have my level 80 Elementalist running around in Exotic armour that is comprised of the level 25 Shadow Garb set along with the hood from the Winged crafted pieces.
I can’t stand the look of the T5 and T6 light armour sets so I transmuted everything the moment I made it.

So I would definitely suggest that it is quite probable said player simply preferred the appearance of the lower tier armour.

When I first began playing GW2 in September, I was shocked that my aging computer (and newish graphics card) could run the game on mostly High settings.
Then sometime around the Halloween event I started experiencing black screens and crashing when using portals and waypoints. (Happily, by routinely deleting my local data file and always logging in manually, the black screen issue has been resolved) Following the Lost Shores weekend I have experienced some very severe lag, especially in Lion’s Arch. I have put my settings to mostly Low, incidentally.
Before anyone asks, yes I have repaired my game, run various scans and defragged my computer.
At the current rate of progression, the upcoming December event will likely render the game unplayable for me.

So, after a bit of luck (2 Black Lion salvage kits in subsequent nights of finishing dailies).. I hit on an idea. I have several crafters at 400 so I headed to some of the better farming areas and collected T5 mats. I then proceeded to craft rares to salvage.
This worked very well… if anyone has some spare Black Lion Kits, and a 400 level crafter, I highly recommend it. I just finished my last piece of gear today; it actually didn’t take all that long.

For a while I would acquire a key from a personal story chapter and in unlocking one chest another key would pop out, and so on; once I had about five in a row.
However, I can honestly say that aside from a handful of transmutation stones I have had nothing useful drop from those chests. Rather, I’ve received numerous lacklustre buffs and those annoying and completely pointless transformation potions.

I actually don’t understand why people even waste gems to buy keys, or worry about the key drop rates. When my stack of chests begins to exceed 250, I am going to start selling them.

But… I recognise, that’s just me.

I have periodically played LOTRO which has both of these features. I am extremely pleased they do not exist in GW2.

If you want to spar with somebody, go to the single player PvP zone; that is its purpose. When you allow sparring in any given location people will almost always attempt to set up matches in the most visible areas possible (because they crave an audience), and this inevitably creates severe lag for those who simply need to traverse the area. In my view, those who insist on sparring in the most populated spots they can find are, in fact, the selfish ones.

As to the possibility of inspecting others, just no, there is already enough elitism creeping into this game, we don’t need to encourage it further.

Is this why people have obviously been ignoring the information I linked to them from the official Guildwars 2 site. Because Arena Net has giving them Duels, just not in an open public area? I am inclined to go wit they just want the attention

I suspect it probably is the desire for attention. People asked countless times in the LOTRO forums for sparring to be in designated areas and instances only, and the uproar against it from those wanting to be seen while flexing their virtual muscle was substantial.

Damage-Dealer PVE/Dungeon Necromancer?

First, I know there is an actual subforum for necromancers, but most posts there deal largely with issues surrounding the class. While I do appreciate player concerns about necros, I am actually seeking reasonably constructive build advice, hence why I am posting here instead.

I would like to try creating a damage dealer PVE/Dungeon necromancer without minions. I am considering a focus on Curses, Spite and Soul Reaping, and I plan to wear Ravager/Rampager gear.

So my questions are:
1. How viable is this type of a build?
2. What is an effective combination of the fore-mentioned traits, and would it be advisable to include something that provides toughness and/or vitality?
3. What constitutes a good balance of slot skills?
4. I am planning on using a staff for one weapon set, but I can’t decide on the second, so I’d appreciate suggestions.

Thanks!

This is not to say that games don’t have flaws and that they shouldn’t be constructively critiqued and addressed. Clearly, they should be. However, there is a very big difference between constructive criticism and a continual flood of moaning from those who can never be happy, or delusional conspiracy theories from the tin foil hat brigade.

As far as I have seen, map chat (at least on my server) is always dramatically different in tone from the silliness that often pervades the forums. It may be cliche, but I think it’s true, those who mostly enjoy the game are busy playing it rather than complaining about it. Why bother even playing? Warcraft has made gamers soft. MAde them comfortable.

There needs to be risk vs reward..
You Need to be able to try your hardest to not die or you lose xp.
We need a mmo that takes months to get to cap. It needs to be hard.

Look…This one is pretty easy, wow is pretty easy, and everyone is bashing it..no content, to casual, blah blah blah.

We need a AAA mmo for real gamers.

Are you trolling, or are you simply passive aggressive and self-entitled? Did you seriously expect with a thread like this that people would happily chime in with your whining?

Believe it or not, plenty of people who game have REAL LIVES to attend to. They do not have the time to make a video game into a job because they are out working, or they have families, or any number of other things.
Anet advertised this as a non-grindy game that would appeal to the casual player, perhaps you should have taken note of that.

As others have already noted, there are plenty of MMOS out there that focus on being tedious and grinding, go play them, clearly GW2 is not your cup of tea.

With all due respect, Anet, considering how widespread these issues are, and considering that almost everyone is reporting that they started having problems after Halloween , it is highly probable that the source of the trouble originates server side.

GW2 is the first MMO I have truly enjoyed, so a huge thumbs up from me on the game itself, but these recent issues have definitely detracted from my appreciation of the amazing world you have created.

Legendaries are not required. Not in the slightest.

Anyone who uses that as an excuse not to play doesn’t comprehend Guild Wars.

They are indeed flashy, but they are most certainly not required. I have been using a Seraph Greatsword for the last month or so. I don’t function any less than a player with Eternity would function.

There is indeed grind available in the game. Guess what, they have grind in WoW, Rift, and any and all other MMO’s. The difference is that the grind in GW is OPTIONAL by far.

This. Exactly.

I do not understand the whining about legendaries and cultural armour. If they had extraordinary stats far superior to anything comparable, then sure, at that point it would be more justified.
However, they do not have amazing stats, in terms of damage they are precisely the same as top tier crafted equipment. Maybe the crafted weapons don’t glow as prettily, and maybe by some standards the cultural armour looks good (a point of debate in my view).. but that is all, it is JUST cosmetic. I highly doubt you’ll be kicked out of groups because you aren’t sporting the latest in Tyrian high fashion.
Using this stuff does not illustrate that you are a skilled player, it demonstrates that you have vast amounts of time to spend on a video game, and somehow pixellated shinies help to validate your sense of self.

You do not NEED to grind for good gear in this game, and if your vanity demands it…well.. don’t complain, you made the choice and nobody is forcing you.
