Collection Expander: great disappointment

in Black Lion Trading Co

I can bet the percentage of people who expected it to increase one’s ability to hold twice the amount of items for a single stack of mats from 250 to 500, to be extremely low and limited. It is clearly stated to what it does, and what it does is gives you room in your bank, not inventory to hold more collectibles. It’s easy to say this because it doesn’t require much to understand this. It’s plain and simple and you guys thought too much into it and expected it to do waaaaay more than it was supposed to.

The Guild Wars Universe has always had a maximum stack size of 250.

Except that you also don’t know what it does. It doesn’t increase stacks in your bank, it increases stacks in your collections.

If it worked on your bank, I’d buy one. With it only working on the collections a bank tab is better value for money for me.

Yeah I knew that. I kinda stated that too. If you had read my response, I stated it allows your bank to hold more collectibles. Which is true. It does. What I was responding to was someone’s expectations of the Expander increasing the size of stacks allowed for their account in general from 250 to 500.

It only expands stacks to 500 in the Collection Bank Tab. The general bank tab and inventory still only stack to 250. This helps me 0%; what a waste.

The above is what I was referring to. It was stated earlier that it was just the collections tab by OP and various others in this thread that is was for the Collections Tab. Stating that your bank can hold more collectibles is not wrong when discussing the Collection Expander because that’s exactly what it does. The name itself is easy to understand and I would assume most would see it as common knowledge that its directed to the Collections Tab.

On a side note: One can buy them enough times to get to stacks of 1500 in the Collections Tab. If you have more than that in collectibles, its probably time to start using them or selling them.

Collection Expander: great disappointment

I built up some gems via gold today, decided to buy a Collection Expander to help with bank space. Bought, double clicked, and immediately disappointed. It only expands stacks to 500 in the Collection Bank Tab. The general bank tab and inventory still only stack to 250. This helps me 0%; what a waste.

Why in the world would they not have ALL stacks expand to 500 with the Expander?

I don’t suppose there’s anyway of refunding the “upgrade” for my 800 gems back? I wouldn’t have bought it if I’d have known it was so limited and useless.

Don’t feel left out I also made same mistake, although it’s easy enough to say it’s clearly stated, i can bet we are not the only ones to have made this misconception. I was really disappointed I purchased mine and I certainly don’t have the money to chuck away like that, but i just live with it now but now know not to make the mistake of purchasing one again.

Black Lion Key "Farmers"..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArtemusHunter.9521

ArtemusHunter.9521

Black Lion Keys are 125 gems, or $1.56.

If you can farm 3 keys in an hour, that means you are paying yourself $4.68 per hour. Had you instead worked an hour of overtime at a minimum wage job you would have earned $10.88 for your hour and could have purchased those 3 keys with the same amount of time spent (1 hour) and had $6.20 left over to do anything you wanted with.

If people want to farm the keys, it’s really their loss.

It’s actually not a loss. People can work and do the key farm and play the game. Essentially, if they budget their time right, they can have their cake and eat it too.

Lets say that you have 3 hours to play the game after work.

You could spend those 3 hours farming dungeons, doing dailies, WvW, fractals, w.e, or you could cut one of those hours into key farming time, do dailies, and do a couple dungeon runs or WvW or w.e it is you want.

But the free keys you are farming have a chance at claim tickets and ticket scraps. That right there is probably 90% of the reason, if not the entire reason, for key farmer’s to farm. Especially when there’s a new skin worth 1 claim ticket(like now with tormented). Once those skins get a higher price ticket-wise, they will be worth more than your one hour of work.

Go look at the Aether weapons. The shortbow is worth 350 gold. I’m not sure how many tickets are required to get one, but at one point it was worth 1 ticket. That means that one ticket that could of dropped from a chest could of been worth 350 gold, or roughly $70 dollars(current gems to gold is roughly 50.4 for 800 gems).

Which is roughly 7 hours of your job, or almost a full day of work.

The chance for a ticket to drop almost a full days worth of work in gold is the reason people farm ticket’s and ticket scraps, but its not the only reason.

We also have chances at both versions of transmute stones..
Mini packs..
Dye packs that contain 7 random dyes(which if you don’t know, all the blue rarity dyes went up 20 silver)..
And various boosters.

This is why we farm. I’m 8 our of 10 scraps away from getting a tormented weapon skin. The minute I do, its going in my bank and waiting for the prices to jump so that I can, hopefully, make well over your one hour wage pay. In the mean time, I’ll enjoy the boosters, mini’s and everything else that comes out of there for free too. 1 hour of farming a day is worth it, plus you still have time to play the game. You could do one single run a day really and it would still be worth the time imo.

I wonder if that will be in any way equivalent? Though I do expect for new traits they add to be outrageous. I hope they don’t add them in temporary content like has been happening with everything else.

Everything that has been temporary content has been part of the LS. The LS is over now, for a while, so they can focus on the actual game instead of the theme park kitten that was going on.

The one thing I want to know is if the training manuals will change from allowing access to teaching a bunch of traits of that tier.

don’t worry next months LS will have more crazy achievements to play.

Considering they said that the first 4 LS updates were supposed to end Season 1 of the LS, and the fact that this current LS is the 4th installment of the year so far..

Idk if we will even get a LS update next month.

The next two patchs are WvW patches for the Spring WvW tournament. That’s, at the very least, 4 weeks worth of WvW content. WvW season’s also bring in a lot of the PvE players that would generally ignore WvW.

I just don’t think a LS is coming for a while. We’re not going to be fighting Mordremoth anytime soon – so its doubtful we will be going to any new area’s. Maybe, at most, we might clean up what Scarlet did to LA and Tyria, but after that, probably nothing for a while.

Why do people automatically think its going to be gem store items? I don’t get that. Everyone just assumes its going to be gem store items without any real reasoning behind it.

They could put it in as an achievement reward similar to the helm for finding out more information related to why she did it all. Or perhaps they could put it as a reward for figuring out something related to the leylines or mordremoth in the next big patch.

Or maybe they could be w.e meta achievement is next – minus wvw season that is – if anything at all is next.

If they are though, what do you guys think the price would be?

New Overwolf apps for GW2 - looking for ideas

in API Development

I use overwolf most of the time when on gw2 or other games. Awesome little program! Maybe it could have some sort of app that works with WvW? Idk if such an app exists and I’m not one that’s good with programming/designing/creating apps, but its an idea.

Maybe something small that keeps track of the keeps, camps, towers and SM and which server(by colour) has which. You could make it a small little thing that we could place somewhere in one of the corner’s of the screen or something? Idk, rough idea. I don’t know how useful that would be for the WvW-er’s, but I would assume it would be at least in some way.

CONDITIONS

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArtemusHunter.9521

ArtemusHunter.9521

Someone also brought up another problem with my idea. They countered with the idea of depending on ones condition damage stat, maybe the stronger bleed could overwrite the lesser bleed.

Which has all sorts of problems, but I thought of something last night and just ran with it now.

Basically, same idea I had last night, so that after your bleeding runs out you still see the debuff, but the bleeding wont go past a certain amount of time – say 4 or 5 minutes; equal to city swiftness.

Wasn’t sure if that idea though would be good. It would still be capped, but in duration.

Maybe to help with how much damage bleeding can do(because removal of stacks breaks the current bleeding), maybe make bleeding go at a fixed interval and as you apply more bleeding, the tick damage just increases. Depending on condition damage stat threshold, it could use the same concept I originally thought of.

More condition damage = stronger bleeding tick at fixed interval, all bleeding pooled together to a fixed amount of duration as not to over populate the bleeding pool.

Just an additional thought on the idea.

CONDITIONS

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArtemusHunter.9521

ArtemusHunter.9521

Part 2:
Lets start with Bleeding again:

So Player A and Player B are attacking this champion and have maximum condition damage. Their output’s of bleeding are equal in each way.

Lets say they are necromancers for kittens and giggles.

Necro A and Necro B are both using scepter, Necro A doesn’t have bleeding utilities but Necro B has Blood is Power(a skill that adds the equivalent of 2 stacks of bleeding on a long duration).

They both open up with Grasping Dead – which would give 3 stacks each to the champ. Champ now has 6 stacks of bleeding.

They both do their full auto attack once, producing another 2 stacks per Necro.

Necro B then uses Blood is Power and adds the lengthy 2 stacks.

Normally, we would be at 12 stacks of bleeding, at probably around 30-40 seconds because of BoP which would shortly turn to 2 stacks.

With the new system idea though, Necro A would see the duration of his bleed, and Necro B would see his, as the white that goes around conditions, and the timer would be for the total length of bleed. Necro A would still only see the Bleed Ticks he produced, and once his bleeding was done, he would see no more ticks. He would still however see that the Champ was bleeding, and he would see for how long as well, but only Necro B would see the amount of ticks that would be going off.

What we get with this concept is the removal of stack cap. Which can be bad yes because everyone would just run bleeding in zergs and dwindle everything into submission. But not if we reduced the damage the bleeding did.

For WvW, the system where at most 5 people can be hit by an aoe protects them from being man-slaughtered by ever epidemic necro in existence. Personally, I think for WvW, it would still function pretty well. Sure stragglers and solo players would just drop against a zerg, as they would normally, but I’m not sure it would affect ZvZ’s all that much.

The problem would be in HUGE meta events. How do you stop a Zerg with this system from stacking the equivalent of 200+ bleeding on a boss and thus utterly destroying it without increasing its health into the millions?

Well I guess that’s where I run into a problem that I have no solution for. Like I said, this was brainstorming. I randomly had an idea, and if anyone wants to take it and roll with it, feel free. After writing it all out, I see the flaws, just like I see the problems with conditions in big groups currently.

Is there an answer? Idk. Maybe at best, this system could be used for confusion and torment, as vulnerability and bleeding in this system could be too strong.

ArtemusHunter.9521

I posted this on tumblr and some people who are following me told me to post it on here. Something along these lines MAY have been stated before, Idk, but I was watching Bogotters stream last night, and the Wurm Husks pretty much popped this idea into my head and I tried to roll with it.

Part 1:
I’ve noticed a trend with most of the conditions, and we all know the problems some of the key ones hold. Stack count.

Vulnerability: stacks in number count – thus increasing amount of damage by 1% per stack. capped at 25
Bleeding: stacks in number count- thus adding one additional tick per second per stack. capped at 25
Confusion: stacks in number count – increases damage based on fixed amount when enemy uses skills. capped at 25
Torment: stacks in number count – damages more when enemy moves, count increases amount of damage inflicted. capped at 25
Burning: stacks in duration.
Immobilize: stacks in duration.
Poison: stacks in duration
Chill: stacks in duration
Blind: stacks in duration
Weakness: stacks in duration
Fear: stacks in duration
Cripple: stacks in duration

I was just watching bogotters stream, he was doing the wurm raid again, failed it again too but that’s not the issue. The issue is that you have to bring condition people along to burn down husks because physical damage does kitten all to them.

Conditions are something I love and I was thinking of a way to improve the 4 that have the problem of stacking. Brainstorming ideas in my head so to speak.

One idea was removal of stacks. Turn all stacking conditions into duration conditions with specific instructions. This is obviously possible since Blind, regardless of the duration stack, its removed upon the first successful attack.

So lets take a look at Bleeding. Everyone knows its powerful. It’s not Zerk powerful, but it can be kitten close! If we remove the stack count though, how will we know how much bleeding per second we are able to do?

Easy solution: Make it so condition damage stat determines how strong of a bleed your doing. Make it so that the bleed tick is increased based off of a threshold of condition damage.

Example: You have x amount of condi damage; so your auto attack only applies a bleed that is equal to 1 stack, but your buddy has Y amount of bleed, so his auto attack applies the equivalent of 2 stacks.

Depending on the amount of condition damage stat, you will be doing the minimum or maximum or somewhere in between amount of bleeding for your class!

This same concept would also be added to the other three stackable conditions. A certain threshold would determine the percentage amount of Vulnerability and the damage amount of Confusion & Torment.

Or we could take it a step further.

We could make certain conditions require condition damage and others condition duration.

Maybe Bleeding and Confusion need a certain threshold of condition damage to hit that max damage output and Vulnerability & Torment require a certain amount of condition duration.

Then there’s that one issue with how would we deal with the mess of conditions that would be present because of this situation?

Well, we could not deal with it? That seems like a good idea.

The Cantha Thread [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArtemusHunter.9521

ArtemusHunter.9521

This post is 37 pages long and I’m not about to sit here and read all 37 pages.

That being said, Cantha and Elona.. the idea of them never coming back to the game was always in the back of my head, but it grows to be an bigger thought more and more as time goes on. One argument that I’m about 90% sure was stated by Colin in an interview with MattVisual supports both sides of the idea; The plan on opening up more of the world. That could mean Cantha or Elona, or that could mean the Ring of Fire, Crystal Desert, Blood Legion homelands or more of Maguuma Jungle.

I have hope that one day Cantha will be reachable again. I started my journey in Cantha back in the later years of GW1 before I had ever even heard of GW2. Cantha, for me, is a big part of my GW gaming history. If we never get to go back.. that won’t stop me from playing, but as a fan I know I’ll be extremely disappointed. I consider my main now a descendant of my main from back then. He’s also a part of The Priory. If I were in his shoes, I’d probably be spending my time trying to find a way back over there.

We all know that when the expansion is finally announced and the date is set for release, that along with it will be some more lands to go to, I’m hoping Cantha is a part of that.

Theory discussion

ArtemusHunter.9521

I’m almost certain someone somewhere has posted something similar to what’s going to be said, but I wanted to put my thoughts in. I posted something on Tumblr earlier today about it too and before I knew it, it(for me anyways) blew up.

Basically, this is about what’s coming next. Including the time during and after the downfall of Scarlet. I’ll start off with something everyone’s seen by now. The DO NOT TOUCH towers(DNT towers).

Someone lined up the DNT towers, and posted the image somewhere(I have no idea who) and my friend linked it to me earlier. Now, because of what I was looking into last night, I instantly thought that Scarlet must be monitoring the magic flow of the Ley Lines. The immense magical power accumulated in the lines must also explain why they need no power supply and why if you touch them, you get sent flying backwards.

Some people have argued that the DNT towers are not completely on the lines and that they show up in WvW too. My response to the first part was that, even though Scarlet is as strong as she is, she still is one sylvari. Perhaps she doesn’t know the full 100% location of the lines, or perhaps she was too busy with the Molten Alliance, Tower of Nightmares, Scarlets Assaults, Toxic Alliance and the Aetherblade’s to figure out every inch of the lines. Perhaps in a future patch, she’s going to finally finish putting up the last of the DNT tower’s required.

Also, perhaps those tower’s are draining the area’s the their magic and surging it directly into the ley lines to further incite a specific dragon to emerge.

Primordus. I have a reason for why he’s chosen(besides the fact that us GW1 players wanna take him down). I’ll get to that soon.

As for the WvW DNT towers; something as simple as perhaps the mists mimic tyria. We see events and changes in Tyria bleed over into the mists all the time, so why is it so far fetched to believe that Scarlets DNT towers don’t also fall in that category?

Even further than that, perhaps they are the missing towers. :o lol

As for Primordus. He was originally(or still is, not entirely sure) the closest one to the center of the Ley Lines. Considering his popularity with the GW1 players and thinking about how much involvement the Molten Alliance has had with the living story, AND including the Flame-x armor in the gem store, it’s not much of a stretch to assume that Primordus is coming next. Just the location is what is unknown really.

For me, I personally think it will be in the Deldrimor Front. I think that we might actually get in the area there to chase down Scarlet and put her to rest there, and just as we do that, she will use some magic to serge enough energy into the Ley Lines and kitten of the dragons. Primordus will then show up and one way or another start reeking havoc on Tyria. Eventually we will get a dungeon added to the game or a current dungeon in the game will completely change to suit the presence of Primordus and then we can take our shot at him. Of course, before that moment we probably would have to search for a way to take him out, and for his location.

If its a new dungeon being added; Ring of Fire or Deldrimor Front seem like the best places to add it. As for a current dungeon being revamped for him, I have no idea which.

I’m pretty sure these idea’s have been floating around, but with the DNT towers, it finally all kinda clicked in my head at least. My friend had been spouting that Primordus was next for the longest time, but I used to think she was just blinded by GW1 nostalgia. With what’s been happening though, I can see it to be true.

Finally, if the Gem Store is being used as a sort of player dragon warning system, then I cannot wait to see Kralkatorrik’s armor rehash! lol The thoughts of these idea’s above have made me very much excited for the upcoming year, just like last year. Also, I’m hoping that if I’m right, we will get to see Killroy. xD

I forgot one tidbit of information:

GuildMag.com received a metronome yesterday or something along with a message from Scarlet:

Thump, Thump. Time to jump.
Wipe all resistance from your mind
There’s a secret deep below to find
If you’d only seen the things I’ve seen
You’d wake up screaming from The Dream
This next part will sting, but it brings me joy
Sometimes to change you must destroy
A fire is rising you cannot contain
Tyria will burn, while I remain.

The last three lines help make me think its Primordus for obvious reasons lol.

((I do not own that picture below, nor did I make the connections in the image, don’t know the source so I’m just posting it along with the theory above))

OR…. They could make VERTICAL building.
You don’t need 10 maps worth to build houses on if you can build into the air.

That makes me think of apartment buildings, which you don’t really see in Tyria atm. lol

If it used some sort of asura/charr tech to make floating landspace as well, then it would seem like how Wildstar is doing their housing – though that’s instanced.

My idea is to have ‘instanced’ maps as in “City Levels” (basically how the current maps work, with barriers in the form of portals that require you to load the area. Currently Divinity’s Reach is rather vertical. It has huge slopes and different levels. If they simply added new levels, with walkways/portals to the next level, and allow the space DR has, you could build beneath the DR we have right now, or above it. Each ‘Level’ could then function as a sort of open world map, with their own npcs, npc houses, dynamic events, skill point challenges and much more.

It would create a completely new world, built by the players.

EDIT:
Oh and this could be done for any city known at this moment. Rata sum, with floating levels, Black Citadel with underground mines and mechanical structures. Hoelbrak could get spirit fields, dedicated to one ancestral spirit or another. The Grove would be one of the best, as a tree of life, climbing ever higher. Even some of the cities in explorable maps could lead to other city levels, think about Ebonhawke for example.

EBONHAWKE! would be an awesome place! If this was the case, it could get more people hanging out there. At least, that’s what I’d hope it would do.

They could even limit the amount of levels it goes above and below the cities with NPC’s saying they are working on building more space, and then have them resting in a future patch after all the work of adding even more levels! lol

This is the eternal issue with player housing. If they opened the outer wall of DR as it’s own zone that might open up a good amount of space. I suppose it really depends on how many accounts can be tied to a server before it is considered full. Making 10,000 houses in Tyria would be insane. If servers max out at 70-100,000 like my quick math suggests then as much as I like open world housing I don’t think it is an option. The issue here comes into the cost that Chris mentioned. While similar, open world vs. instanced housing would have to be coded into the game very differently thus making a hybrid of the two much like cost effective. I love the idea/function of open world housing, so I’ll keep championing it, but instanced would probably be a better use of their time in the long run. If anet added new zones with houses in them there could be a fun land rush element to zone launches.

Personally, I’d like to see player housing semi-instanced. By that, I mean Player 1’s house is next door to his friends; Player 2, in this neighbourhood for player’s 1-8 or something.

Either that, or instanced. It’s just easier. It would also be pretty cool if they had a door in the guild hall that lead to the player housing(if instanced) and worked like when entering our home instances with parties.

I saw a post about player housing being open world. I gotta wonder if eventually space would run out lol.

In the end though, my top one would be the same as Chris’. Player housing, Guild Halls, Faction Alliances – All of that is important stuff that other games nowadays has either already implemented(Tera Online added faction alliances and alliance battles a few months back. FFXIV just released Guild Halls in 2.1 patch) or stuff that’s going to be released shortly(WoW with Guild Halls coming in their next expansion).

Could get people more interested too. If Alliances make their way back, my GW1 alliance might actually recombine again. It would give us reason to reconnect with each other. I’m just wondering if it will be server specific, which might cause a little issue.

It would be interesting to see more flexibility on weapons.
For example, one weapon could have more than 5 abilities. However you can use only 5 of them and you must decide which ones. And then I’d make some weapon abilities as mandatory (must be on the action bar), some of them optional, some of them locked until they are unlocked by a trait or gems.
Then, make sets of abilities bound to the weapon and character so that player can switch between them fast. Prevent switching in combat.

Maybe someone already shared these ideas… I really didn’t read every post regarding this topic.

The idea of more skills for weapons has been talked about before. However, no one(to my knowledge) has thought of locking skills behind gems. Even if the gem amount is low, its still something that would be greeted with poorly from the community and be seen as pay to win and/or like ArenaNet was just “coming up with ways to get more money out of us”.

Which with that last part, we all know isn’t true otherwise gems would be solely obtained via cash.

Would this be a part of Horizontal Progression? :

Various GW1 styled maps(like JQ, FA and Codex) being revamped for GW2.

If there new zones/instances were made available to all they would generally be promoted as “new content”. To make them horizontal progression they would (likely) be released along with an in-game activity as the means of unlocking them, so that your progression was how many new zones you had access to.

If you check back on page one you’ll see my Horizontal Progression test. This passes with flying colors .

So, yes it could be a very desirable reward, depending on presentation.

Ooooh! I actually like that. The idea of unlocking those maps would be sweeeeeeet!!!

I really miss JQ. my necro in gw1 has like 2k deaths and legendary survivor title. 95% of those deaths were from Necro-bombing obviously lol. I played a looooooooot of JQ, so even if I had to unlock the content through w.e means they want me to, I’d end up doing that.

GW1 Nostalgia -- Why not just PLAY GW1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lets not forget the manifesto..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvxOWwH0Vlo

What a laugh that is compared to how GW2 is now. These were the promises we GW1 players were given. What colin said in it, the first half we got, then he mentioned swinging a sword and grinding.. And then the video goes on to show stuff that’s STILL not in the game.

Actual Quotes:

Mike O’brien – FOUNDER:

We founded ArenaNet to innovate. So Guild Wars 2 is our opportunity to question everything; to make a game that defies existing conventions.

Guild Wars 2.. Takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1 and puts it into a persistent world that’s got.. more active combat, a fully branching personalized story-line, a new event system to get people playing together and still no monthly fee’s.

Dynamic events existed in other games before Guild Wars 2. It didn’t break the mold unless renaming them counts as breaking the mold. More active combat doesn’t exist in WvW when you limit the amount of people you can attack with aoe to 5. it means you throw a couple attacks out, expect to hit a few people, and carry on with your life.

Guild Wars 2 took the name that you loved from Guild Wars 1 and proceeded to add locations that changed over 250 years and turn most of them into ruins. It took the classes, renamed some, and barely took the skills from gw1 to gw2. It exclusified weapons to certain classes – there by removing my favourite thing from GW1. It removed locations and has yet to describe if we will EVER see them again. I’m talking about you cantha, elona and the areas above frostgorge..

Colin Johanson – Game Designer:

Most games, you go out and have really fun tasks occasionally that you get to do, and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff.

That last quote is how GW2 currently is. The ‘fun stuff’ of the game is either holiday related or groups require you to be level 80. After one grind through levels, I never wanted to do it again because it literally was a boring grind to me. I know its not the same for everyone, but that’s just how I am. but the best part is his next quote RIGHT after the last one..

I swung a sword. I swung a sword again. HE-EY! I swung it again!! That’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that, no one finds it fun, we want to change the way people view combat.

Colin. You are a GAME DESIGNER. If you didn’t want players to grind – not only for levels – but for specific gear, why in the name of the 6 is that how you get specific gear? Why say people don’t like to grind? People do. As long as it’s not riddled with RNG.

The Guild Wars 2 promise and the results 18 months later are clearly two different things, and people have the nerve to say we GW1 players should stop complaining. I’ll stop complaining when I see them truly deliver on empty promises.

No its not. Phantoml0rd wasn’t playing gw2, dayz or eve online today and today those games were hit among others.

Of course you might be right, but it is suspicious that LoL was taken down by the same group that took down GW2 right when he says LoL went down…and whoever it was took down all game sites that he plays and streams (GW2 included). Of course they deny this but it does seem a little fishy.

I’m not the only one making this connection:

Who’s to say really. Still…

Happy New Year Everybody!

When I quoted you in response, I had checked phantoms twitch page and at the time, he had 22 hours on his previous stream. kitten took down GW2 the day AFTER he took down LoL, battle.net, Dota 2 and others. I’ve been watching kitten ’s twitter all day basically.

To say GW2 went down because of a video from phantom explaining why the cops we’re at his place, after kitten Trolling claimed that they don’t attack individuals(its on their twitter; @DerpTrolling) seem’s a little far fetched. Another thing that can go against the idea that it was because of phantom was that they gazed their attention to two other random streamers tonight that had about 2k-ish people watching before they got mentioned. kitten ’s followers then went and flooded their chat’s and forced them into sub chat only.

But they didn’t take down the games they were playing at the time of this going on. One was on LoL and another on WoW.

Their attacks are randomly directed to popular and somewhat popular games, not because of streamers. They attacked WoW before mentioning the second set of streamers today and shut it down, shortly after GW2 and Minecraft(which got hit twice) today.

Not only that, but phantom made that video(that I got a link from gamebreaker, whos known to be slow on reporting stuff) 15 hours earlier from right now(about 6amish EST) to the GW2 attack and then the attack happened 12 hours earlier. It didn’t directly happen after and the video doesn’t mention anything other than the event that happened the night off his attack. He didn’t play GW2 during the cyber attack and he didn’t mention the game in that first video you mentioned.

kitten is just trying to get their jollys out and people are looking for a scapegoat. I’ve only barely heard of Phantoml0rd before this attack, and I know I might be coming off almost as a fanboy, but just putting this part out there that I barely know of the guy. Even so, its kinda obvious that they are going at stuff randomly. I mean hell, they attacked APB Reloaded and Gamerfirst earlier today; can we blame Phantom for that too? does he play that horrible game? If that’s the case, we can blame the other two that got hit earlier for LoL(not sure if it went down earlier today) and WoW going down again, since they were playing them.

Like I said, people are looking for a scapegoat. He’s an easy target because of the first cyber attack. It didn’t stop though when phantom stopped streaming and because he didn’t even touch GW2, imo its hard to see how it’s his fault kitten took gw2 down.

Happy New Years!

Would this be a part of Horizontal Progression? :

Various GW1 styled maps(like JQ, FA and Codex) being revamped for GW2.

For JQ you could make the juggernauts and turtles have champ level health or between champ and vet, and the camps and mines could just be how they were in gw1, but with gw2 npc’s(hopefully with aggressive AI).

And then FQ could be the same in a sense, with the main guy at the end of it having champ level health. You could even make the npc’s ghosts or have it sort of fractal related(by that I mean having the area for JQ broken and floating in ..space?.. like the maw fractal).

As for codex, Idk, never played too much but I know some people liked it a lot. threw it in there for those people.

The stat difference is not much from exotic.. I don’t see why even elitists would want to drop someone because of non-ascended.. :/

Only if you’re in Fractals and don’t have any AR would it make sense.

Ascended gear is not going away, but at least there won’t be any more after this. Right? RIGHT?!

Don’t think so. I’m pretty sure they want ascended to be their top tier, and they wont change the stats to make it a HUGE advantage over exotic unless they make it almost as easy to obtain.

Although there are a lot of great ideas with regards to gear, skills, vanity, etc, there has been less talk about how we are actually going to obtain said items. My concern lies around the fact that each Living Story update has brought about achievements/skins that center around large amounts of grind (following zergs WP to WP) or RNG.

GW2, in it’s current state, has many different looks for endgame armor. The problem is that that the sets either require large amounts of dungeons (repetitive, static tasks) or impossibly low RNG odds. Will Guild Halls require millions of wood, ore, etc, farming? Will new skins be RNG based, either through keys or the mystic forge? IMO, the method of obtaining the rewards mentioned in this thread, is as important, if not more important, than the rewards themselves. I personally would rather have fun obtaining a semi-rare item than get grey hairs relying on RNG or massive grind.

Thoughts? Would love to hear some interesting ways to go about obtaining these ‘horizontal’ rewards.

Some posts come with descriptions on how to obtain. I know on page 4 I tried to come up with a way to obtain legendary dyes. It was basically equal to how legendaries are obtained atm, but you can see the full description here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Horizontal/page/4#post3408259

Some posts talking about skills had some different ways of obtaining them. Some involved using the weapon over and over(I’m assuming in relation to achievements related to the weapon), or certain weapon skills over and over like unlocking weapon skills to unlock the new ones. As for utilities, I’m not sure but I think Signet of Capture was mentioned somewhere in the 26 pages of this thread.

The gear attainability was also mentioned in the thread through various means. One post even stated combining crafting professions to make unique skins(armorsmith + huntsman to make orichalcum plated longbows or something).

As for vanity, there was a couple posts on the idea of “Tinkering” that involved creating items for housing along side creating town clothes – all mixed into one third crafting profession that would be accessible to everyone along side the two crafting professions of choice.

People haven’t just been throwing idea’s out into the wind without any thought as to how to get them in-game. The core of the idea’s have had a lot of thought put into them early on in the the thread because people have had almost 2 years to think about these things(I’m considering open beta in that time frame – even longer if you count closed beta players).

Chrispy.5641:
Let me ask you my original question. I reworded it a bit to be relevant to the current conversation. How is housing going to show off your progress to other players (not just yourself and friends) if it is instanced and 99.999% of all players will never see it or care about it (atleast everyone can see if you have a legendary or other skin)?
What you and others haven’t addressed yet is how a house is going to show everyone your progress in the game? Legendaries and other skins do that already. You can be lazy and say “add a new Title”, but, there’s got to be something more there than just a title.

I think you miss the main point of housing , which is a place to call home- or more elaborately an emotional connection to the world that shows your accomplishments.

This can be instanced because it still stratifies those needs, but you can do so much more- obviously.

The best idea I have seen is instanced neighborhoods, like the story instance- it can be anywhere.

You enter an instance and you are in a place- people can make as much as the system allows of their houses. you have slayer trophies on the walls- you have mini pets running around, you have event nodes…

I really liked some of the ideas where you can add chests and challenges to your house- or hey, expand crafting and make a tp industry of crafted furniture and decorations.

Same with farming etc- make it a whole new industry.

It is horizontal progression and many, many people will spend some time in-game doing it because it is something else.
the most important thing is that is it yours- not some npc’s.

If housing in GW2 could be like FFXIV’s(which to my knowledge is the neighbourhood style housing – semi instanced), then it would be wonderful..

I mean, imagine creating your place where you call home and being next to your friends home in the same instance. You could visit their home(hopefully they would have the option to white-list if preferred) and see their accomplishments even if they aren’t online.

It would be like GW1’s HoM but semi-instanced. It would be awesome!

Synergy
Inter-profession Synergy is something that could be really exciting. It could also be really complex. It could work something like this:

Oh dear lord, please Anet, do whatever it takes and implement this feature.
Make it something, that is some kind of special feature that comes from forming a Party, so that players have an incentive to form a party…

This is by far oen of the best and most simple gameplay improvement ideas I#ve ever read so far, which is combat relevant, that would so significantly improve the whole combat feelign of the game and reward players for playing well togehter.

The basic idea remembers me actually of the game “Tales of Xillia”*, tham I’m actually also playing on PS3, which has basicalyl a very similar gameplay feature, where Characters share a synergy< with each other, that are linked with each other.

Linked Characters are also able to perform “Dual Combo Attacks”, if certain conditions are met first, that are especially devastating and look very epic in performance.

Maybe this could be something to combine with the basic idea of “Synergies”

Some more Synergy Ideas:

Thief synergizes with Mesmer

Thief gains : Shadow Clones
Whenever the Thief performs a dodge roll, he will create for very short time Shadow Clones, that will attack nearby foes, if they get killed, they will explode in smoke and blind foes.

Mesmer gains: Power Thievery
The Mesmer will confuse the target enemy and steal one of its skills.
That stolen skill will be set into cool down. The next time the Mesmer player presses the Auto Attack Button, the Mesmer will use the stolen Enemy Skill and gets 1 negative condition removed
——

Thief synergizes with Necromancer

Thief gains: Fearsome Blades
A synergy effect, that lets Thiefs deal Fear to foes, at a certain with internal cooldown chance when hittin critical

Necromancer gains: Gates to Death
The Necromancer receives for Death Shrowd a new 6th synergy related Skill. the Gates to Death. When using this, the Necromancer will create some Portals to the Underworld, letting some Shadows attack with Shadow Steps foes, that stand in their near. Those summoned Shadows will stay for only short time, as long the portals don’t get closed or the duration of the skill runs out first

This is interesting. In a way, its similar to how GW1 was with how you could have a secondary profession, but also not because you still are only whatever profession you chose at creation.

I, personally, would prefer the necro/thief synergy to be called Grenth’s Gates just so if it was mentioned in chat, the acronym could be GG lol.

The only issue I’d have is where would it be placed? A necro has just F1 to deal with, so adding it to F2-4 is not an issue. Same goes with Thief. However, I would like to know how it would work for Engi’s and Ele’s considering they have F1-4 taken up already. Guardian wouldn’t be much of a change, they could simply dedicate F4 as a synergy button.

Ranger’s would have that issue too. I’m not entirely sure if Anet is down for adding another button to be pressed while in combat either.

hmm..

Edit: I feel stupid now that I reread what was said. Okay so it would be safe to assume that it would end up being a buff of some sort, and it would depend on which ever profession you are closest to – to an x-amount of range.

Although for other classes, I could see there being an additional button added(like guardian getting an f4 synergy skill).

2- gw2 could use more ability and weapon buttons to press on the bar. I suggest something like this…
*#1-10 would be used for individual or multiple weapon skills.
*f1-f4 mechanics bar
*f5 heal skill
*f6 aoe/team heal skill
*f7-f10 utility skills
*f11 &f12 elite skills
*a 3rd weapon swap option would be great as well.

For the love of the Six, please no.

I can’t see how adding more buttons to press would add anything to the game.

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about this.
F12 is a dedicated/default Anet log out button, always has been, always will be.
F11 or F10 is also the dedicated/default options menu button.

More button’s isn’t always a good thing. That’s the Guild Wars way-of-doing-things.

I let the flamesticks poke me into oblivion for saying;

“I’d rather have a top 3 list of things that could actually make it in the game with existing technology and not having to do crazy amounts of extra coding, than having a top 3 list of things people want in the game just so without any further thought.”

°bracing°

Maybe if Chris tells us his three things, that will give us an idea of where to direct the discussion?

Are you willing to share, Chris?

Hi Videoboy,

I am still thinking through all the ideas and suggestions so my list may change but currently it is:

— Role Diversification: New skills/traits, new weapons, access to inaccessible existing weapons, infusions and hybrid professions.

— Sociopolitical Diversification: Player housing, Guild Halls, and Faction Alliances leading to new game play opportunities, rewards and content.

— Hero Recognition: Unique Skins, Titles, Rewards, followers and NPC reactions/opportunities based on the players individual feats in the world of Tyria regardless of how he/she chooses to play the game.

Please note these are just my personal thoughts on what I think would be cool. I am also still thinking about the ideas presented in the thread and therefore like anyone else reserve the right to change my top three (-:

Chris

In regards to “Hero Recognition”

The most interesting part of that, followers. It’s pretty bad already with the amount of players(even though its kinda been fixed with the anti-culling options), but if followers were a thing again(Ie; heroes and henchmen from GW1) I have this feeling it wouldn’t end well.. I can just imagine the frame drop from everyone possibly having their followers out and doing stuff.. then again, I’m probably wrong and the system probably works fine now and for all I know it wouldn’t hit it too hard.

But if it is similar to FFXIV’s Summon Chocobo action; where you can summon a giant yellow bird to your party to fill a specific role, IF THAT’S THE CASE, then its a good thing. You could give it a couple lines to say every so often, have it act like a follower from Skyrim(possibly with its own inventory? >:D), have it stick around for X-amount of time or until you unsummon it, perhaps give it items to sell(I believe SWTOR had this option? not entirely sure).

That would be well welcomed in my books. Especially if you could customize it as if it was a lesser version of a player. If you could change its role/profession on the fly, it would be a great addition to solo-ing; which seems to sometimes be unavoidable.

Really hope followers was meant to be something similar to the second thought there.. If not, consider this an option for “followers” please! lol

So, a little inspiration just hit me. Obviously a lot of people want other weapons on other classes(pistol main hand on a warrior or a greatsword on.. well everything really lol) and as a player who main’s a necro, I know there are quite a bit of weapons I’d like to use.

I want to assume the deep dark secret reason we cannot use everything on every class is specifically because they want to have their options open for later for adding more skills(which I literally only just clued into that). That’s fine, but here’s some ideas for the necro at least:

For Greatsword: Lets start this off with the big bad greatsword. Perhaps we could see some form of blocking feature in it, or maybe the 5th skill could summon that fleshreaver for a short duration of burst damage slightly on par with hundred blades. You could even root the necro down and make it a channel skill while it does damage. idk, this was the first thing that came to mind.

Another thing was sort of a slam to the ground and doing varying amounts of damage directly in front of you while playing some effect(either grasping hands or spectral bits of earth raising up) but make the damage be stronger at the farthest point and weakest when up close and personal.

Sword: This game was supposed to break the mold when it came to the mmo series, and while its different, it tends to seem to be the same in some parts. A light armor class such as the necromancer has access to daggers, scepter, staff, focus, warhorn and an axe. That last one seems to be the only ‘mold-breaker’ for the class.. though not by much. Why not give him a sword or two and see where that goes?

Maybe he could have a parry attack similar to warrior that doesn’t do a hefty amount of damage but applies some decent condition stacks? ‘Necrotic Reversal’ even be its name lol. Maybe it could have a skill that adds torment and fear. idk, just throwing suggestions out there.

Shield: Maybe this doesn’t actually block anything. Perhaps the necro does some animation that creates a bubble similar to the toxic alliance shield bubble, but not as potent. A necromancer that’s spent his or her time taking out those Toxic Alliance fella’s should probably know how to do something similar to there attacks by now. lol

Idk, just throwing some idea’s out there, Wouldn’t mind someone to bounce them off and build upon them with so I hope it sparks some other necromancer to join in this fun!

Edit: I got bored and made an image in paint really quick to show the possible terror one could bestow upon thy enemies as a necro with a greatsword, and added it to this post.

Based off my main’s look.

I think it’d be better to keep the existing systems in place – no subclasses, no trait overhauls, etc – but make small changes to allow a greater diversity of builds and roles. For example: allow each profession one more weapon, like…

Warrior: main-hand pistol
Guardian: Warhorn
Thief: rifle
Engineer: torch
Ranger: rifle or pistol
Mesmer: main-hand pistol
Necromancer: greatsword
Elementalist: shield

This could lead to a huge rethinking of how people play their class, give everybody new skills, and keep the game fresh.

One could argue then that there could be an even bigger variety of build changes if you allow all professions to use all weapons, which I know a bunch of people want.

This plus weapon skill swap pool would be then be an even larger build variety. I’d be very curious as to how an engineer would use a scepter in that case lol.

Profession SwitchingThe ability for a single character to level up and manage the ability to play as any profession.

This feature would be managed by the multiple profession retainers that currently only serve to reset a specific profession’s trait points. Now all profession trainers would be allowed to enable a main lv80 character to swap and undergo training under a new profession.

Unlike race, a profession is something learned by skill and not bound by birth. A character upon reaching level 80 would be able to visit another profession trait retainer and undergo the ability of profession swapping. A Lv80 Warrior can switch to a Lv1 Necromancer. Leveled professions are saved and players could make profession swap with a reasonable cost of skill point and coin trade in.

This type of thing is met with mixed feelings. I personally feel it might actually fit somewhat well with the GW universe(considering NPC’s have been swapping professions since the days of GW1), but I know that there’s quite a bit of players that might be kitten ed off about it(due to leveling all their alts to 80 so they could have those professions at max level) and some might even go as far as to say that it would be the final peg needed to prove how alt friendly this game can/could be.

I believe you got this idea from FFXIV, since that’s how that game works currently. Its a neat feature, but they have bonus’ in that game if you do hit level cap for alt’s. It’s a confusing a new term to those that have played regular mmo’s. It would be nice but I feel that the population would be a few on board, a bit more than the few liking it not liking it at all, and the rest on the fence; eventually forgetting about the idea.

It would fit with the game, but does that mean it should be in the game?

Letting players swap out skills on a weapon isn’t appropriate for GW2.

First of all, would you rather new weapon skills be placed on existing weapons, or would you rather get those skills on whole new weapons? ’Cause my thief really wants to use a staff as a melee pain-stick.

Secondly, keeping weapon skills locked is important for balancing the game – let’s not make it more complicated than it already is.

Swapping out skills in combat? I agree that should never happen. However, new skills to choose from per weapon while out of combat? I see no reason why that is not compatible with GW2. Hell, I think that’s how it should have been to begin with. I want new skills per weapon and utility skills and elites. That makes for a more interesting and complex game. More thoughtful decisions that people have to make. Adding more weapons per class? Sure, I’m all for that as well. But we definitely need more skills per weapon. Anet moved too far away from the way GW1 was. They felt GW1 was too complicated, but quite frankly they went the opposite way with GW2. We need the complexity of GW1 back. Not completely like that, of course but it certainly can’t be what it is now.

I remember a couple months ago I was talking to a friend of mine about being able to change weapon skills.

Basically something like 2-4 skills to choose from for skills 2-4 and the 5th one having more(no point really in changing the auto attack too much/maybe make it so you can change what condition it applies or some other mechanic or something).

It could be class specific too to an extent. For example, maybe double pistol thieves could make the 3rd skill 1 of 5 different things? Idk. I know a bunch of people would like this. More customization in our builds should always be welcomed imo.

I keep seeing the words “Locker” and “Wardrobe” being thrown around.
They remind me of the armor templates from GW1. Which would be neat to have. Build Templates too.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned, but I know a bunch of people have been saying they want legendary dyes, and it occurred to me that maybe its possible.

First off, I don’t know if people have thought of this, but I’m just going to put it out there anyways:

Legendary Dyes and their names.

Start with names since it will help you understand what I’m talking about. Basically, name them after the legendaries themselves.

Dye of Twilight
Dye of Sunrise
Dye of Bifrost
Dye of The Juggernaut
Dye of Frostfang

and so on.
I’m pretty sure you know where I’m going with this. The next part would be the look for them. I’m not entirely sure when it comes to the greatswords looks, but lets use Frostfang for this example.

So you craft yourself a Dye of Frostfang and are super stoked to be a kitten in legendary dye! You put it on your armor and close the hero pane and watch the pretty frost effect that would be on frostfang, but on your shoulders. or gloves. or entire armor set.

Crafting these mother-of-all-dyes:

Obviously it would require the Gift of Color. I mean, its a dye. Perhaps gift of legendary-type as well. As for the other pieces of the puzzle, I’m not sure.

Effects:

I’m thinking that the weapon trail effects should be included somehow.. but if it was to trail behind all 6 pieces, it might look a little weird/bad. The boots would be cool. Maybe if all 6 pieces had it on, it would do the trail behind the boots.. idk..

That’s all i got, feel free to add on top of it.

Edit:

Last night I was thinking about the combination for making these dyes.

Gift of Color – obviously because it’s dyes.
Gift of (weapon) – To determine the effect you want in the dye.

Here’s where I’m not sure on what the other two pieces should be for the recipe, so I’m going to list off the ideas:

Gift of Mastery – Because its a legendary, I thought maybe it should have the GoM for the simple fact that if you want to look like kitten, you should have to work to be a kitten

Gift of Ascension – Because another use for an item is cool? idk.

Stack or X-Amount of Ascended materials, refined or not – Just thought maybe they could make use of the ascended mats for another item instead of just ascended weps/armor

Stack of Ecto or Stack of Obi Shards – Considering this to be the 4th piece of the recipe because.. Ecto/Obi.. because reasons? lol

Mystical Cogs

in A Very Merry Wintersday

ArtemusHunter.9521

Yeah you need 250 cogs, which are account bound. I forget why exactly but last year a lot of people ended up with an extra 200 after making the 3 minis.

It seems I wasn’t the only one to hang on to them just in case they have a use this year. I’ve still got them sitting in my bank but if they don’t have a use by the end of Wintersday I think I’ll sell them for the 2 silver or whatever it is.

I’ll be holding onto mine until they hopefully become useful again. I was only able to make 2 and have 200 left over. I thought that was the cap per year tbh.

Verata’s Sacrifice
(Aura) For 10 seconds, you lose x-amount of health and all summoned minions within X-distance regen health by x-amount/amount of summoned minions. Your Minion summon skills cooldown faster while under Aura(similar to how chill changes the CD now).

That’s all I got.

Holiday: Remembrance of the Gods/Ancestors

in Suggestions

ArtemusHunter.9521

So basically, my friend and I were discussing Wintersday and she came up with a neat idea.

Remembrance of the Gods – an event that starts on the day GW2 launched or around that time(maybe even have it end on that day with a big bang or something? idk). She stated that the event could be a human event to remember and pay respect to the Gods.

I thought it was a good idea, but if you wanted to generalize it more, you could even change it to Remembrance of our Ancestors. Maybe even find a way to tie the Hall of Monuments into it. Maybe open the HoM up for everyone to visit. Everyone could talk to the guy there(cant remember his name) and for those that don’t have linked accounts, he could say something like, “My memory is a little foggy, but I cant recall if your ancestor’s made any deeds worth of note..” or w.e

You could have the event be different in the 5 races cities, and then a big mash up of all 5 of them in LA and HoM.

We’re still discussing it on steam atm, and she just said one of the mini games could be a dance off with Abbadon. Whether that would fit with the game or not is up for debate, but that would be awesome! xD

Jokingly just came up with a meta reward: Vol. 2 dancing moves.

But yeah, this would be cool would it not? Now that I think of it, time-wise it would fit before the whole back to school thing with SAB – if that’s going to happen again at the same time. You could have the final 3 days of head start be the final party too, then a little downtime, then SAB or w.e event they plan on next.

Battle Music Doesn't Stop.

in Audio

Posted by: ArtemusHunter.9521

ArtemusHunter.9521

Hey everyone, just dropping in to let you know that we have identified the issue. A fix will be coming with one of the upcoming Living World releases.

Is that going to fix the lag with audio changing?

I’ve not used various custom audio playlists for GW2 because the game cant detect and play the songs fast enough on my end.

I mean, no offence towards the music of GW2, its great, but I’d prefer to have some custom battle music since the option technically is available, but the current system is too slow at recognizing when entering battle and when leaving. At least that is the case on my end.

(btw; I’ve tried every possibly combination for all the audio sliders, and its the same either way)
