Keep the orbs in the trashcan where they belong.
And why is that, they were a unique and strategical point of interest on the borderlands that made it worth playing over the battlegrounds.
The fly-hacking was an easy fix, instead of going after the hackers they should have just buffed the Guild Lord to make the alter invulnerable whilst hes alive and removing the stat boosts was vital in balance and should simply be replaced with a PPT value.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
For condition based builds, always go Rabid. As a conditionmancer condition removal is easy to do so you want to focus on the direct damage being done to you plus we have a high base HP pool to begin with.
Vitality is mainly for Bunker builds who want high HP to scale with Plague Form and Deathshroud.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Ive recently finding out having a standard well trait layout and using Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup along with Necromancers high base health pool pretty much cancels out most condition damage.
That being said i have been mixing gears between Knights, Zerkers and Cavaliers to maximize toughness.
This is my current WvW build that focuses on high disruption and survivability through toughness and condition removal whilst dishing out heavy critical damage (thus avoiding the T1 weakness spamming meta).
Heres an example of my particular Bunker Well Build in action;

Jesus there are so many baddies in this thread who assume auto-attacking with a dagger on a Necromancer is the best melee option, if thats your mentality go play a Thief.
You will do more burst damage with dagger 3 -> WoS -> dagger 1 hell, just spamming dagger 1 is more damage than axe 2. Moreover Retaliation doesn’t even make sense with a burst build.
You shouldn’t use axe, not in WvW, not in PvE and not in PvP.
I think you’ll find Well of Suffering > Ghastly Claws is a stronger and also quicker DPS, Dagger 3 has one of the longest channel times in the whole game. Ghastly Claws has a much higher chance of getting off a full channel then Dagger 3 and also has a higher base damage total.

We would really like to bring back the play that orbs provided to WvW. That being said the initial version of orbs was like Swiss cheese.
What you mean hard?
No! Full of holes! We really want to bring back the orbs in some form or another, but it is a complicated thing and so there is no timeline, nor are there specifics as to what form they would take when they return. We have top people working on it! But I can’t give you anything more than that, as there is nothing more to give.
Quote from the man himself on Orbs of Power on another thread however I’m sure we would really like some insight into why it would be so difficult to just redesign them as a PPT value and put a buff on the Keep Lords that protect the Alter of Power, it would give the borderlands reason to be played again whilst stopping hackers from simply destroying the Alter from beneath or above.
Would also like to see opinions on the WvW bonuses and there late game snowballing effects on dominating servers!
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
For a power build:
In pve the dagger does more damage with better life force generation and there are much better ways to stack vulnerability than sitting there spamming axe 1.The axe 2 is pretty much a noob trap, it may give you high numbers but dagger 1 has higher dps considering that it takes nearly half the time to execute the entire chain.
If your using Axe in WvW, you dont auto attack. Axe is for the fast burst rotation, high Retaliation stacking and ranged damage in general.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
How come I don’t get that kind of damage?
And Wild bill being a good P/D thiefs doesn’t mean he has more HP then anyone else.
Thief are pretty glassy.
Did you kill him?
We dueled for 2 hours or so, I’m a fan of his videos and i knew it was him from the guild name he uses. I won about 70% of the duels we did, he started getting kills after changing up his build. He also sits on about 24K health.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
dont ask when
ask if
It was stated by a Dev when they were removed they would be coming back once they’ve been reworked but that was months ago but the WvW head developer back then wasn’t very talkative with the community at all unlike the new one.

Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Were as i don’t think Thiefs in general are the problem (or are OP at all) i do think they need to change the one person can contest a waypoint issue.
Something like waypoints should only be contested when siege is hitting the keep.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
If you plan on using Axe you have to stack critical chance. Axe is nowhere as near as bad as everyone makes it out to be but it will suffer in small scale fights.
13k hit?
I have nearly full berserker gear on my necro, with some ascended.
I run a hybrid power build in WvW and my Ghastly Claws were half lifing Wild Bill probably one of the best P/D Thiefs in the game when we was dueling.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
What will you be doing mostly in WvW? (Solo roaming, Havoc squad or Guild vs. Guild)
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
The only things that stop a stom kitten tealth and CC skills. Necros do draw one of the short straws when trying to prevent a stomp but its not as bad as some.
The best thing to do is learn the channel times of stomp and fear and fear them just at the end of a stomp, if you time it right you can Fear > Fetid Ground > Fear and generally keep yourself up long with Life Leech.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Before anyone can answer your question correctly you need to specify what you want to build for, different aspects of the game call for different builds.
I usually break it down as;
- Dungeons
- PvE
- WvW (Solo roaming/ Havoc squad/ Guild vs. Guild)
- Hot join PvP
- Tournament PvP
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Mesmers have been nurfed in pretty much every patch excluding the last with the lazor beamz buffz.
Still broken and easy to play class though.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
When will there be more balances to WvW to sort out the remaining snowballing and when will Orbs of Power be brought back?
With balancing I’m referring to the three WvW bonuses Energetic, Robust and Medic though usually small (10-20%) they tend to snowball a dominating server towards the end of a match-up and it would be great to have these changed to more neutral boosts like the others are for fairer matchups.
I’m sure I’m not the only person who would love to see the Orbs of Power returned to the borderlands as its pretty stale in there. They should be returned with:
- Point per tick value.
- Slaying the Keep Lord allows the alter to be damaged.
Thoughts?
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Play a Thief… i mean they like, stealth and stuff, and move really fast and and theres lots of threads on the forums to nurf them so they have to be op.
True story.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
I would recommend PTV over pretty much anything if you plan on running in large groups, it scales amazingly with Death Shroud and Plague. If PTV isn’t your cup of tea PPT armour works very well with Cavalier ascended Trinkets.
Just make sure you balance out your armour and trinkets though, for example i use mainly PTV armour and Zerker trinkets in my power well build.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Ok so its the same for sPvP as it is for WvW then, Stun & Daze duration affects Warhorn and all durations are rounded up to nearest second.
Not bad then, Banshee’s Wail and a Superior Sigil of Paralyzation would be a 4 second AoE Daze. Pretty funky for a sPvP MM build.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Now in the olden day i would have targeted JQ over SoR, but now i have an axe to grind with SoR so why should i not attack you over JQ.
Oh No! We are sorry random unknown BG commander for upsetting you, please don’t attack us
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Been playing with troll zerker well bomb build(d/wh),
Why is warhorn wells considered a troll build? its one of the top WvW builds there is.
Runes of the Mesmer and Sigils of Paralyzation both extend the Daze duration of the warhorn (at least in WvW). Daze has a max duration of 4 seconds and it is always rounded up so a 3.1 second Daze will be 4 seconds.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
If its just Toughness your after there is alot of easy to access Cavalier armour for Power users. Something like this would make a great solo roamer/ havoc team.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Heavy Life Stealing is nice and trivial but I’ve always found 15 points (or 20 for well users) in Blood Magic for Vampiric and taking either Bloodthirst (for low critical chance builds) or Vampiric Precision (for high critical hit builds) is the best method without wasting strong traits and points.
This is my WvW build and it allows me to heal for silly amounts passively without losing any of the utility or damage of wells. (in PTV armour, Berserker Trinkets, 50% critical chance)
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
I think the only problem was you bumped into a farming squad who all prefer the lame Hundred Blades 166% critical damage builds for farming.
IMO Necros bring alot to instances (the best being perma-weakness).
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Very good job at soloing him and good use of dark path to duke his AoEs that’s one i never thought of myself.
I was planning on doing this soon myself but i got carried away with Achievement Hunting xD

I’m assuming something like that was your trait layout with Rabid Armour, Weapons & Shaman Trinkets.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
As for suggestions, mine are;
- Leaderboard for WvW ranks.
- Leaderboard for WvW kills (using the Realm Avenger Achievement).
- Show what class and guild everyone on the rankings are.
I’m rank 65th for Achievements
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Retaliation use to affect all siege equipment, but was nurfed about amonth or two after the game went live because people would stack for AoE Retaliation and screw over both siege and defending players.
It might of been splash damage from people trying to hit you, or other siege equipment or one of them few skills that certain classes have that have no LoS and can hit siege.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Post nurf? +1 second onto the revealed state is nowhere near a nurf… Thiefs can still perma-stealth even with the change, so theres no need to pretend your “owning” people.
I really do wish the developers had implemented the change they said was coming for stealth (4 second revealed debuff after every stealth) it would of separated wannabe Thiefs riding on the coattails of stealth, re-stealthing after an engage if it was incorrect from the good Thiefs who know when to engage.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Might i point out if you want double power infusions you don’t have to use versatile.
Mighty Infusion (Offensive) (35.73g)
250 Passion Fruits (0.5g)
100 Powerful Blood (34.3g)
50 Philosopher Stones (0g)
20 Mystic Coin (0.93g)
By using one infused offensive ring and one un-infused offensive ring you can equip two of the same kind of ring.

so sad right now, small guilds get no “praises or props” ..always bout the zergballs. but to be honest i dont know any small guilds in JQ or SoR, that run outside of their zballs. so i guess no praises for you as well =)
Zergballing works, that’s the problem. Until zerging is fixed somehow your almost always going to have 1 super-zerg, 2 havoc squads per map.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
You can bug the camera using the SAB event, just exit the instance while in a boss fight and the camera will stay all the way zoomed out. Then you can enter WvW and have a much better view of fights and your general surroundings.
I wouldn’t really go around promoting zoom bugs. These are a big problem in T1 with people using zoom hack methods to see much more of the map then you should be on an arrow cart and allowing them to take down defensive siege.
If there was any kind of change to the camera zooming distance, it would have to reset/ be limited when using siege (i.e. zooms you back closer to the siege).
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
You spent so much time hovering inside the inner. Watergate Green is a terrible point of attack, next time follow this path (purple = port).
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Actually we have way less numbers than SoR & JQ do now. But look at how close Blackgate comes to competing with these two overly stacked servers.
SoR being overly stacked is news to me. After the weekend reset madness were usually out-manned in 3/4 of the maps.

Rabid gear can indeed be bought in WvW now. A full set is 950 Badges & 5g 45s. On a good day i can farm around 300 badges in WvW with bunker blind.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
I’m not sure why your using the Warhorn trait when your using a Focus off-hand, miss-click?
Try this;
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNArdWjMax7Vaaa07JAJFPj9kivHP6BxDnMA
Deathshroud healing is useless without SR XII and 5% more damage above 90% is almost never active, plus doesn’t affect conditions.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Necromancers are always welcome in WvW and we are one of the few classes that have a use other then mindlessly spamming 1 in groups of 50+. Bunker blind with siphoning can quickly turn a fight in your favor in large scale fights.
My advice, forget fractals.
Gear in this game is easy to come by, and fractal gear isn’t all that impressive, if can even be considered an upgrade.
Ascended Rings and Backpacks offer a decent jump in stats and are well worth investing your time in getting. Alot of people forget you farm your Fractal Ascended gear whilst making money.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
I would actually like to see dev confirmation as to if this is suppose to remain a paper gate or its bugged and doesn’t upgrade, I’ve often wondered myself.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
I have been playing since before launch, and still did not get a single abyss dye drop. ^^

Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
Upgrades are fine o_O all upgrades are useful in some way and worth the money paid. The only problem with upgrading is the person buying the upgrade is not rewarded in any way because of it.
ANet needs to implement rewards for the person buying the upgrade once it completes (in the form of WXP and/ or Badges of Honor)
And FYI when i solo/ duo havoc on a map i know has other havoc squads i always buy yak escorts once i flip a camp, it adds 4 more guards for the enemy squad to deal with.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
That’s exactly the kind of build I am using right now. Focusing on having 50% critical chance with 3000 or more of power and it is doing great so far.
I’m assuming by 3000+ power, your referring to effective power and not actual power.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
I have just been working on an Ascended Cavalier build vs. Ascended Valkyrie build to see what would be superior, this is the best ive come up with using my criterias (50% critical chance, same or similar critical damage)
Still working on what would be the best, Vitality or Toughness. Im leaning towards Toughness because the food renders most condition damage useless to me, so Vitality would be less effective but then there’s DS-HP to consider aswell.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
(edited by Ascii.9726)
For Dungons and Fractals condition builds are really the way forward. My build has 100% condition/ bleed duration to maximize Barbed Precision with the rest being pumped into condition damage.
Rampagers or Rabid is the best set to go for, it just depends on if you want more damage or more survivability. One things for sure if your building pve condition you want the Givers Scepter and Dagger
For WvW i wouldn’t really recommend conditions unless your solo roaming or in a small havoc squad. When it comes to large scale fighting conditions are removed so quickly your burst bleed will do almost no damage.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
One question though…
Why do u prioritize vitality over toughness in the first build?
I might be wrong but i thought that 20k hp is enough (especially with all the condition removals/transfers necros can get) and that health siphoning would be better with high toughness.
Mainly because i had already bought the Valkyrie jewelery before i decided to go hybrid tank (i was full Berserker armour, Valkyrie jewelery for solo roaming), however thankfully the higher Vitality pays dividends in large scale fighting. With all the people dying around me 0 to 100% LF takes seconds and with a higher HP pool i can absorb alot more damage then if it was toughness.
Heres a video i took recently of Tier 1 large scale fighting on a Necromancer.
