I’m not sure you get it. The problem with the minor traits right now is that they only really work for one kind of build (using minions). What you propose is bad because it does the same thing (only works for using staff). You may like it more, but it still creates the same problem, just with a different culprit.

No, i dont think you get it.

There traits that are bound to a build type/ utility type (minion master) staff is a weapon type that is used in almost all builds and is much more flexible then having to be a minion master to use these traits. Any decent Necromancer will tell you the only incentive to go into Death Magic at the moment is Greater Marks and Deadly Strength.

Replacing them with non-specific traits would see this tree have no obvious purpose, and I’m not sure if you noticed but every trait line on every class is themed.

Doesn’t this cause the same problem that’s already there, just with Staff instead of Minions?

There changed to optional traits, not forcing you to choose them because you want the perks of staff in the Death Magic tree and I’m not sure about you but the only reason i go into the Death Magic tree is for staff masteries and the 25 point.

There still there for Minion Masters to choose.

Maybe the Devs forget that a 40 second Fear mark (as with every other mark and every other trap in the game) can be blown and wasted by simply dodge rolling into them.

Now what classes have access to Vigor & Evade skills again? hmmmm….

  • Dhuumfire moved to Master trait, changed to on-hit every 15 seconds.
  • Terror moved up to Grandmaster trait.
  • Weakening Shroud changed to 20 second ICD.
  • Reainimator changed to Adept trait with Staff Mastery taking its spot @ 5.
  • Protection of the Horde changed to Master trait with Greater Marks taking its spot @ 15.
  • Remove Blind and Vulnerability from Signet of Spite.
  • Fix Putrid Mark so it transfers 5 conditions from you, 1 from each nearest ally (5 max) and increase its cooldown to 30 seconds.
  • Fix all marks so they do not go on full cooldown when interrupted/ cancelled, or change every other skill in the game so they go on full cooldown when interrupted/ cancelled.

Mark of Blood
This is one of the most versatile and powerful skills in the game. A huge amount of the condition damage from necromancers comes from their bleeds and while they are removable in theory, the ease with which necromancers can apply conditions makes it is virtually impossible to ever get to the bleeding at the bottom of the stack.

Proof that MoB needed a nurf, its the best skill in the game even though they already nurfed MoB in a standard condition build by moving Greater Marks up one position and out of reach for anyone wanting Dhuumfire and Terror.

I would totally believe this statement too if it wasn’t implied that because bleed is at “the bottom of the stack” it is impossible to be removed by RNG cleanses.

Apparently the bugged version is fine for them, so there updating the tool-tip to display the bugged version and pass it off as an intentional tweak justified by the fact its the best skill in the game kitten kitten .

This is one of the most versatile and powerful skills in the game.

Tyler Chapman on Putrid Mark

It will no longer cleanse teammates and it will always give a full cooldown when interrupted because its one of the best skills in the game.

5 Stacks of might on Corrupt Boon & -24% duration would be much better then 4.2 stacks on heal IMO, it would kick in and affect the converted boons straight away rather then having to heal or before or after bursting. It would also mean i could heal when i need to rather then feeling pressured to preemptively heal to gain the bonuses.

I also think having -24% condition duration would provide much more of a long-term benefit then 40% might duration, as the might bonus is situational on only 4 things (blood to power, signet mastery, well of power and consume conditions) were-as the -% condition duration is permanently active.

The idea of this runes usage for me is to build a super tanky Terrormancer whilst losing no condition damage.

Remember Terror was already hit by, wat was it, 17% or something?

Terror has actually been nurfed twice, once in June 25th when it was moved up to Master traits preventing certain builds from using it and and again on July 23rd when its damage was reduced by 17%.

I have yet to buy my set of Antitoxin runes but i have a question for anyone who might have them equipped already.

Does Corrupt Boon proc the 6th add-on?
(Gain 5 stacks of might for 10 seconds on incoming poison or torment (20s cooldown))

If they do, they would be the perfect rune for a tanky Terrormancer build (as 100% is still achievable with the new foods) with Dire armour, Rabid trinkets and Giver weapons specing 30/x/x/x/x.

It would mean the loss of 1 utility for Locust but would also mean a condiburst with 11 instant stacks of might.

Heres what i posted on the official thread about the proposed changed and them still wanting to nurf Dhuumfire at the same time.

For Dhumfire and Terror: we have plans on reworks for those down the road, but they won’t make it in for this patch. We have plans for those, but they’re a little further down the “balance” road.

Whoa wait… so let me get this straight, Necromancers were a borderline joke class until the Dhuumfire patch.

Ever since then most of the other condition related skills and traits have been nurfed because of the damage and pressure increase these skills added to the class, and these were pretty big nurfs too (fear damage, scepter 2, corrupt boon, greater marks, weakening shroud, mark of blood, spite sigil, numerous traits are the ones i can remember) and you still plan on nurfing (“reworking”) Dhuumfire and Terror?

Will you be reverting all the changes you’ve made to all the skills to ‘tone down’ or offset the damage Dhuumfire and Terror added?

Funny thing is they have not only left all the “counter builds” to conditions untouched (-65%/ -98% condition builds, berserker stance, mass regens, automatic response etc) but they also decide to add in another full immunity to condition trait and continue to nurf Necromancers condition skills because they have no clue what there doing and can’t balance/ remove Dhuumfire.

Post 10th all condition Necromancers will pretty much be forced to go for Dhuumfire or risk losing a lot of damage, and even then there’s no telling how long it will last before it and Terror are hit.

It’s like ANet telling us: “For god’s sake just reroll a guard or warrior already”.

Pretty much, when you look at the Warrior notes there’s no changes to Adrenal Numbness, Healing Signet or Berserker Stance.

What i find most disappointing is there still nurfing every condition related skill because they cant balance or remove Dhuumfire.

Necromancer:
For the necromancer, we felt that a few traits and skills were too powerful, while others were lacking in efficacy. We brought down some of the raw DPS conditions that necromancer enjoys, while also maintaining their pressure and sustain elements. The necromancer’s mobility will remain where it is currently, as we want the Necromancers to be focused on sustaining themselves through death shroud, siphoning health, and slowing down their opponent’s ability to act.

do not put a sigil of earth on your dagger if you have one on scepter. They won’t double proc, I would look at sigil of burst or the +10% bleed duration.

People sometimes use double Earths for the extra 24% proc chance.

Dropping 1 utility & the missing celestial points for 90 condition damage is too much for me IMO (especially now that I’ve spent a lot of time using 6 Traveler runes and love them to bits).

I’ve tried my best to stay away from Geomancy in WvW for several reasons, mainly being you have to be pretty much point blank and you only get the additional damage if you weapon swap (which leaves the decision of when you are close to swap for damage and not utility).

The Mark of Evasion + Weakening Shroud + Geomancy is pretty mean though, i use to use it all the time, i just find Earths more active now that Dhuumfire is around and you have 40%+ base crit because of it.

I would definitely recommend running Transfusion if your in the more disruption spec’d build (PTV gears, Well of Darkness/ Power ect).

As for this build its 50/50 for me, the heals are nice for allies (or pets there/ clones…) but i dont like using Life Transfer for healing/ defensive reasons when it does a lot of damage in this spec (and for tagging people!)

This is a zerg build.

Theres many reasons why Vampiric Precision is superior then Mark of Evasion in this build, mainly;

  • Mark of Evasion would provide at-best a 969 heal over 6 seconds, Vampiric Precision will heal that amount in 23 procs which can be done much quicker.
  • Regeneration can be stripped/ converted.
  • Mark of Evasion requires you to be point blank and inside the mark.
  • Mark of Evasion has a cooldown.
  • Vampiric Precision procs of every single direct damage source with no ICD.
  • Vampiric Precision deals what i like to call true damage, its fixed damage that cant be reduced or cleansed.

To put it in a more simple way with the example you provided, if i was to use a pretty standard engage rotation for this build (WoC > WoS > Locust Swarm > Plague) in a 30 second period with both traits in one situation the hits/ healing would be:

Mark of Evasion: 5 (targets hit) * 3 (activates) = 15 targets hit
Regen total: 2,907
Bleed total: 3,960

vs.

WoC: 5 (targets hit) * 6 (pulses) = 30 targets hit
WoS: 5 (targets hit) * 7 (pulses) = 35 targets hit
LS: 5 (targets hit) * 13 (pulses) = 65 targets hit
Plague: 5 (targets hit) * 20 (pulses) = 100 targets hit

230 Tagged @ 50% critical chance = 115 Vampiric Precision procs
Healing total: 4,485
Damage total: 4,715

Both are in ‘best conditions’ were the damage/ regen isn’t removed/ stripped and all skills hit there max number of targets.

The WvW season has just begun and as promised i have re-vamped and updated my build (found in this post and the homepage) to include all the newest stat sets, traits and items.

Changes:

  • Ascended weapons added.
  • Weapon stat set changed to Assassins. This is to free up precision points otherwise gained from the amulet so the amulet can be changed.
  • Amulet stat set changed to Cavaliers. This is to provide more toughness.
  • Shoulders, gloves and boots stat set changed to Knights. This is for more toughness, though it can be kept as Berserker.
  • Banshee’s Wail set at master trait for the Curses tree. This is due to the buffs to this trait making the slow effects much stronger then Chilling Darkness and active much more.

I’m with Rennoko on this one, Terror should be a grandmaster trait but only if the damage nurf is reverted but i think the burning should remain in its 2 second state.

The benefit (of nurf in Necros opinions) of having Terror as a grandmanster would mean people would have to give up either Master of Terror (losing 1200 average damage per burst) or Dhuumfire (losing 1300 average damage per burst) to have Terror (20/30/0/0/20 or 30/30/x/x/x).

WvW Build Wanted

I’m not making fun of you, just the stupid amounts of health we can potentially get whilst in Plague (i didn’t even factor in the 2,500 WvW buff, 1500 from orbs and global 10-15% buff).

Anyway its more or less a serious build, standard Wellomancer layout for large scale fights just en emphasis on health over damage or -% conditions.

If your looking for more in-depth talks about WvW builds and such i have a large thread over here with a lot of good tips and infos from Necromancers.

You also lose some when you waypoint to a new zone (say, Lion’s Arch from Cursed Shore). A bit of an annoyance that is probably a bug.

I think that’s down to vitality on armors were it ‘re-equips’ stuff (like when you weapon swap to a set with vitality and then swap back and it drops abit) and also the WvW max health buff, either that or a bug.

Simplest way to test is just strip down naked in sPvP lobby and log out and in/ move between games/ areas, it stays the same.

When you log on to your necro it starts with 0 LF.

Unless your talking about the very start of the game, LF remains what it was when you log out and never degens.

The only time it ever decreases is when you equip or unequip items that boost health (which in-itself shows its more a stat/ static bonus mech then say a combat-only related such as adrenaline that degens when not in combat).

Reasonably you should be trying to mimic a real organic game situation though, and in WvW the real game situation is most Necro’s will have full LF if you run into them in the field.

I think you summed up my thought process perfectly with this part.

It will be 45% no matter what because you are missing the +5% critical chance sigil in the warhorn, so its normal to be on 45% with staff.

Yeah it is a pain if i have to change trinkets/ armour parts, but being a perfectionist if i can optimize stat points by changing parts then i will.

Building LF outside or in-between duels is not an issue, as you’ve pointed out it takes acouple seconds to summon and de-summon minions for 40% and it usually takes less then an min whilst golem is on recharge (I usually have to dismiss Flesh Golem between duels anyway because he stays aggro locked on the person i was dueling and bringing out a new one is the only way to fix that).

For WvW encounters your right too, I’m always 100% and there’s no two ways about it. I kill every critter in sight when roaming and ill de-summon minions if none can be found. An ‘realistic’ 1v1 encounter scenario for me (without corruption stacks, leech and kill) would be full LF.

Recently this issue cropped up when i was dueling in WvW and its been bugging me ever since. Noticing this discussion splitting other Necromancers in this thread i thought i would start a topic for it specifically.


I’ll start with what got me on this chain of thought, couple days ago in WvW i was doing my thing when i nuked down a Ranger. After stomping him he starts whispering me about it being a cheap shot and him wanting some 1v1s, which i agreed too.

His guild is a pretty decent small scale guild who i fight a lot in WvW when roaming and i know a lot of there members, so this 1v1 quickly turned into a long queue of people wanting to fight me.

The ranger comes back to 1v1, i kill him. He comes back on an perplex Engineer and i beat him 6/6 times. I then spend about 2 hours 1v1ing the rest of the guild members, losing only to a mace/ GS Warrior (-65%/ -98% condi’s and healing signet spec) Having opened one of there guild members streams i hear the Ranger listing off everything wrong and OP about Necros as excuses (staff 2-5 to win apparently, flesh golem is a must to win, sitting on marks, condi nuking, too much health and so on).

Now to get to the point one of the things he was moaning about was me building life-force before duels so i simply said its our class mech why wouldn’t i, I’m not going to start handicapped so he can have an advantage.

His arguments were mainly revolved around Lifeforce being built in combat and it apparently being easy to build in duels and Necromancers should duel with little to no LF (he also seemed pretty clueless on Necros as a whole as be thought LF degrades when were not in combat).

My argument was its our class mech that isn’t built solely through combat, nor does it decay when out of combat and having a pool is our only main defense as-well as access to DS skills. It’s extremely difficult to build LF in 1v1 situations were there’s not mass death or AoE’s flying around as there are very few skills that build it effectively small scale. 1v1ing a Necro with no LF would be like fighting half a class.

  • TL;DR Guy cries a lot about losing tons of times to a Necro and blames LF as one of the reasons.

I’m interested to hear your thoughts on LF building for duels or what you think the general ‘unspoken’ rules of dueling are.

My views are that Lifeforce is our class mech, its our only form of damage migration outside of blinds and being something that doesn’t decay (such as adrenaline) its not a combat related mech to have.

To put it more simply, i never ask a Thief to blow his initiates or steals, i don’t ask Guardians to blow there actives on there virtues, i don’t ask Elementalists to put all there attunements on CD or tool-belts for Engineers so on and so fourth.

When i 1v1 people in duels my only ‘expectations’ is to not have anything misc, such as sigil or rank stacks. A clean duel with my class at there peak vs. there class at there peak.

Yes plague stomping can be done by using the Plague elite anytime after beginning the stomp, don’t delay it for too long though as you might get CC’d.

As for why i use Carrion of Rabid, i prefer to balance my vitality and toughness so im not super weak to condi bursts or direct damage bursts. The power gained from Carrion has also proved very useful when using certain skills that scale well with power and multiplying effects (such as Scepter 3).

I’ve always maintained on my stream when i lose a 1v1 that was close enough to tell if Dire would of saved me vs. Carrion then i would swap to Dire armour but that hasn’t happened yet and Carrion is still proving strong.

One last thing to point out about Carrion over Rabid is in WvW as the week goes by your server levels up global buffs, one of which is a +% max HP that is usually around 12% (for SoR) when the weeks ends, so Carrion naturally benefits from the additional HP this buff provides.

The necklace is for 50% critical chance, it just so happens to be the one with vitality on it and the one i had before anything else.

If i was to change my ascended gear (to keep the 50% critical chance) whilst adding in the new additional stats from ascended weapons this what i would/ will be aiming for:

This is also the most up-to-date version of the Wellomancer build i will be using post-18th when leagues and balances hit.

The toughness infusions could be changed for vitality infusions and still work perfectly (the vit infusions actually give the build a higher e-health, but I’m a fan of toughness given the -65% nulling a lot of the need for high vit, so it would be player preference).

Well of Darkness is a good utility to use, and in any other build but this i would 100% recommend it over Suffering but with the high spike damage being a core of this build Suffering is too strong to pass up.

Yes the first page build is still relevant with the exception of Banshees Wail instead of Chilling Darkness which i have been using since i heard about its buff coming in the upcoming patch.

With Banshee’s Wail increasing all warhorn effects by 50% we will see +3 seconds onto Locust’s duration (and with any hope the effects will be be buffed too by +5 seconds swiftness and +0.5 seconds cripple per proc).

With Vampiric Precision correctly scaling now it would simply be a damage and life-steal increase which is also brilliant. So all-in-all, given the leaked notes, this build will become a lot stronger in sustain power and migration.
