I recall anet already mentioning that theyre gonna do something about the mystic coins. They’ve acknowledged the issue.

Quite the opposite. They said they won’t be interfering with market prices until the situation settles down on its own.
The only exception to that, so far, is that they mentioned they will do something about AB multiloot. Which doesn’t introduce any MCs into the market.

INB4 Anet says

“Guys! We fixed ABML and MC at the same time. We doubled the amount of great and grand chests in each map, and added 1 guaranteed MC to each great and grand chest! Now ABML is balanced with the rest of the game in terms of reward / time invested.”

But seriously I really am curious to see what their solution to ABML will be, and I hope it gets implemented soon, just so we can go ahead and get all of that QQing that will happen out of the way already.

Removing the guaranteed rare from the chest would put a quick end to it. Even if it dropped to a 25% chance most people would stop since it would be competitive with other HoT maps, silverwastes, and LW3 maps.

That would be a bad way to do it. AB rewards are just fine, for the meta they are hidden behind. It’s only the ability to get multiple completion rewards out of a single attempt that makes it highly problematic. Nerf the base rewards however, and instead of discouraging multiing, you will make it the only way to do the event (as the single-instance completion would be underrewarding).

So, the solution that is required would need to remain the normal completion rewards unchanged, nerfing only the multiinstance component.

The best way, suggested long ago, would be to make some limit on number of grand chests you can open (as there are 5 grand chests in a succesful instance, and all instances end up around the same time, a limit of 5 grand chests per 15 minutes per account would solve the problem completely without hurting the people doing it the expected way).

And since the expansion wasn’t well received by Anet’s own admission,. that doesn’t mean anything at all.

Again you repeat something that has been proven wrong. Most active players did buy the expansion. (And likely many old) So the expansion itself did fine.

Erm… Yes, most of current active non-f2p players have HoT. That’s not because the expansion did good. That’s because a lot of players that didn’t like it stopped playing and are active no longer.

The sale estimation for HoT from around year ago was around 300-400k boxes sold. That wasn’t good numbers for a game that, at some point during first year, boasted of greater concurrent usage numbers and managed to sell over 5 million of core boxes.

Additionally, both Anet devs and NCsoft management have flat out admitted that the HoT sales weren’t that good.

NPC or Henchmen

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

The thing with Heroes/Henchies is, they simply do not belong in GW2’s combat system.

The core of GW2’s combat is damage mitigation through dodging and positioning, things NPCs will have a difficult time doing.

Can you imagine doing a dungeon with 5 Ranger pets? Because that’s what it’s gonna be like.

While you’re generally right, you are not entirely correct. There was the time during beta when mobs were brighter and had better AI. They were dumbed down, because it was a literal murder on players. Mobs could dodge, scatter away from AoEs, single out and spike enemies etc. They don’t, because players in general do not want that.
The same with pets. According to devs, their tests with better AI resulted with rangers being OP and totally being able to do dungeons with pets alone.

Positioning might be harder to code, though. Things like avoiding AoE circles would be generally ok (npcs would do it better than players, actually), but anything more complicated (i.e. tanking, or proper positioning for perfect dps rotations on some classes, or many cases of raid encounter-specific positioning) would likely be too hard to pull off. Especially if the goal was to not make real players obsolete.

Edit: doh, again, i need to remind myself to check post dates. Holy kitten, that thread is old. And the topic has been discussed to death long ago. Anet’s unlikely to change their stance on it (especially, since, by now, even most of those players that wanted heroes got used to not having them).

If I were them I wouldn’t be targeting prices as much as watching inventories; until those start to drain down there’s no need to take action.

Sure, but then you’d need to ask yourself a question – why would they start to drain down? It’s not like there will be more incentive to selling.
Quite the opposite – as long as you think you might need some in the future, you have every reason to hold on to them. Because every single MC you sell now you may need to buy back (at a higher price) in the future.
It’s not like other materials, where, if price gets high enough, people can start farming them and selling. You can’t farm them at all.

For Gift of Battle you can also get through it very slowly by just doing the dailies.

Land claimer, veteran creature slayer, master of monuments, mist guard killer and of course big spender. That will probably take around a year.

Each potion gives 250 points of reward track progress. The whole track requires 20000 points. So, you need at most 80 potions. There’s always at least one easy daily, sometimes more.

No, you wouldn’t need a year. Not even close.

Avoid exclusive content to reward minorities

Astralporing.1957

Listen up,

If you want the best, the most prestigious and the ultimate reward in this game? You’re going to have to go through the most difficult, the most frustrating and the absolute challenge that this game can offer you!

I’d rather this “most prestigious and ultimate” reward was something on the level of a title, not something i might actually want to have for reasons other than its prestige.

Would you really feel better, if you could farm Legendary armor in Silverwastes? I know I wouldn’t, because what’s ’’Legendary’’ about that?

I would feel better. I never cared about prestige of “legendary” gear. Only about their stat-changing option, and about whether i thought they looked good or not.
Besides, what’s “legendary” about raiding?

Just do it! It’s not that hard as many people think it is!

It’s also not as fun as some people think it is.

@Triggerbrand.8072 me too, its been explained to death yet theres always 1 a week.

It may be because those explanations you mentioned generally don’t help in the slightest.

New posts appear and new posters keep bringing those concerns back over and over again, because the reasons that make them disappointed with the game still remain.

Avoid exclusive content to reward minorities

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

I think exclusive rewards for completing challenging content is not only acceptible, but mandatory to ensure that there is a healthy pool of players (regardless of their intentions) willing to complete the content.

Nah. All it takes is for the content to be profitable enough.

Let’s be honest. There are a significant amount of people who do content specifically for the prestige rewards, specifically to show them off . You cannot blame or punish them for that attitude

No reason to reward them for it either.

because if they do not assist the playerbase that does challenging content for the sake of challenging content, they will have a harder time grouping up to do the content.

So, you’re saying that the number of people interested in said challenging content is simply not big enough to sustain it on their own?

I do not know to what extent grouping for raids will suffer, but it would behoove you to ensure that the players, regardless of their determination, can share a common goal.

An exclusive content that divides the community ensures that the players can share a common goal…
Right [/sarcasm]

This is Guild Wars. I think your ability to organize, lead, or adequately be part of a well-forged group should determine the complexity of the content you can complete, including raids.

Well, that’s obvious. I see however no reason why that should impact the rewards

And I think that it’s certainly fine to have specific rewards for doing specific content a certain way.

Perhaps. There’s however no reason why those rewards have to be better simply because you prefer playing the certain way.

As long as you’re having fun, there should not be the “right” or “wrong” way of playing this game.

You dont need anything in this game that is prestiged to play or do well.

The same holds true for the “challenging content” players. They “need” those rewards about as much as everyone else.

Exclusives promote a healthy reason to try different game modes.

Exclusives that are here to make you try different game modes are okay. Exclusives that are there to make sure you invest a ton of time in a specific game mode, evein if you don’t like it, are far less okay. That second option just creates a situation, where if you happen to not like that mode, whatever you do, you lose.

You really shouldn’t want your players feeling this way about the game.

If you want to be able to get the Legendary Armor through gold farming like you can get the Legendary Weapons, then Legendary Weapons should be obtainable via raids.

Well, that sounds like a great idea. I was always all for making multiple paths leading to all the Legendaries.

So you want the game to be all about endless/mindless grinding. I thought this game wasn’t about grind, something you forgot in your pillars of GW2

Well, raid legendary is all about grind. It’s just grind in a single, specific part of content. Which, in many ways, makes it worse.

Fractals ascended boxes

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

With that in mind, there are some issues. First of all, the fractal ascended box vendor. I don’t know who came up with these prices, but last time I checked you pay 2x the cost to actually craft the item in addition to the daily gated pages.

Did you include the cost of levelling a crafting profession to grandmaster? Leatherworking, for example, costs over 110g to get from 0 to 500. gw2crafts.net has regularly updated pricing. Regardless, you’re paying the upcharge of convenience. No time gates

Part of the price is journal pages, which is also a timegate.

(and yes, if you include the price of raising crafting proficiency to 500, crafting is still cheaper).

A new zone, merges elements of PvE and PvP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Considering PvP and PvE are completely separate worlds/platforms in the coding system, an entirely new platform would have to be built into the programming. I don’t know if it’s logistically possible

Completely and utterly false statement.

Anet enabled PvP in Plains of Ashford (ie PvE) during the Shatterer invasion event in the beta of GW2. Players where corrupted by the Shatterer and could engage in combat with regular players (and get instakilled by level 80 Eir and Rytlock NPCs when every player was downscaled to normal PvE level in the zone, lol).

They have never repeated anything close to that event but it most definetly possible.

Something like this event is possible. Specifically, you can flag players as monsters. In which case, they are attackable by players, and friendly to monsters. Anything more granular (like OP’s suggestion) is a problem and creates bugs (see the SW bandits cave case, it took them months to patch it up).

Besides, one of the core concepts of PvE is that it’s cooperative, not competitive. Anet wanted to avoid any situation where you might see the presence of another player as something negative. So, you are talking about a new, separate gamemode. A PvP one. In which case, we already have two of those. Don’t really need more.

Why is something that you can only get via the market (or through upgrade shenanigans) a part of this, and in such great amounts?

The game was designed around using the trading post.

On he contrary, in this case, both the wintersday Orphan’s questline and the Winter Presence were designed around those sigils/runes being easily available. Or at least i assume they were – it’d have been stupid to design them according to conditions that did not exist at that time.
Since then, those conditions changed, but the event and the item recipe did not.

You may think that it’s a part of some greater plan, but as i see it, this was for all the usual Anet reasons – they simply forgot about it.

Beyond that, this doesn’t account for any of the ~90 non legendary skins that require MC as a component, nor for the HoT legendary weapons, nor for legendary armor.

None of those skins are “required” — they are all optional shinies.

We’ve been through that already… Nothing is “required” in this game, including playing it. It’s not an argument. Especially, since the “not-required” things are not a sideshow for the game, but one of the major endgame parts (basically, in GW2, you almost never play for anything that is “required”)

(The mystic weapons are only required by the Treasure Hunter Collection, a pipe dream for the majority of players even as some of its items have decreased in price, some have increased.)

Check again, because you are wrong here. It’s not only Treasure Hunter.

Pre-purchase of HoT started towards the end of Q2 2015 which is probably why we got that bump. It’s not surprising that there was that bump there during pre-purchase, is it? I wonder though, was that bump smaller than expected because they refunded everyone who paid during their 2 massive sales?

While it was a prepurchase, and the money arrived then, we do know (though i don’t remember where i heard that at the moment) that it got assigned to the quarter when HoT got released. So, Q1 and Q2 would not be impacted by it.

Its the friend who is breaking the Eula.

Read more closely, especially the very first and very last part of Just Trogdor’s post. Specifically

You may not buy, sell, transfer or auction (or host or facilitate the ability to allow others to buy, sell, transfer or auction) , or offer to transfer, sell or auction, or buy or accept any offer to transfer, sell or auction, any game Account

And

(not sure though whether they drop from normal gifts or personalized ones, as i just open both types without checking what came from which)

The preview option shows that regular gifts only drop the Sigil of Generosity, which is not used in the recipes. (It has a drop rate of ~4 per 10,000, so yes, very low.)

The personalized gifts also only drop the same sigil, at a higher rate (‘uncommon’ rather than ‘rare’).

In many ways, removing raiding from social equations might actually improve that part of the game. There’s just too much toxicity tied to that element.

(in my 20 years of multiplayer RPG gaming, all the guilds i was in – and i was in many – eventually fell apart due to causes that were rooted in raiding, or its pre-wow equivalent. I don’t remember any other factor that would be even half as disruptive as this one)

Unfortunately, in GW2 this pandora box has already been opened.

not an argument

It’s as much an argument as yours was.

Are you sure they weren’t rooted in greed and ego ?

Pretty sure they come down to that and not the raid itself as that is harmless. Peoples unfettered desires however are always toxic.

Well, yes, of course the direct reason for the social disruptions was the negative emotions and internal disputes between guild members. It’s just that the raids were always the best breeding ground for those, perhaps due to the in-guild competiveness they introduced.

Perhaps the situation might be the same in case of set-size-team pvp. Can’t judge that, because i was never in a guild where such content was considered important. The best i can say is that open world pvp did not generate such emotions, quite the opposite. And that other, non-raid, non-pvp content did not seem to fuel that competitive compulsion.

I’ve never seen a completely empty map. EVER.

I have.
Well, of course you can be never 100% sure about it (there may be someone else on the other side of the map, after all, that you just don’t see), but there have been cases of me being in a map that seemed completely devoid of players.
The most extreme case was one time when i was mapping Timberline on one of my chars. Wasn’t doing it in effective way, did a lot of events, harvested everything i could find, so it took me over an hour. During that time i haven’t seen any other players. Not a single one. And there was no “map closing” popup (the map stayed open for over an hour), which suggested that either there were a ton of players actively hiding from my view, or that it was the only instance present.
That was during the EU primetime, on a weekend.

So, while it’s not that common (usually, even of less-frequented maps, you can see some players from time to time), it does happen.

Mystic Coins are used to make luxury skins/items; they aren’t required to play the game.

That makes them like 99% of the stuff in gw2. In the end, this game is all about luxury items. Nothing is really required.

This is especially helpful for new players who aren’t ready to start worrying about the extra-shiny acquisitions.

Helpful in the short run (though not so much, the MC trickle is so slow that it won’t be significant for a single-account new player), but in the end every one of those players (assuming they will continue playing) will get to the point where they will want them. Except the coins will cost more then (the price keeps rising, and ther’s no indication that this is going to change).

Their small short-term gain will be a big long-term loss – but they won’t have enough information yet to realize that.

And whether he can get it (see the thread about league pvp achievements in PvP section).
So, basically, he’d like APs to fall within a range where they are too hard for a majority of players to obtain, but not so hard that he wouldn’t be able to get them as well.

Remember, that you do not start at zero. While the impact of games from previous seasons is lessened, it still does exist to some extend (that’s what a soft reset means, they explained it before).
Also, since the first 10 matches are still in the preparation phase, it’s the last 2 that are more important.
Someone who had 8 wins 2 losses during first 10 matches, and 2 wins after that will have the same overall game statistics as someone that had 10 wins and then 2 losses, but will not have the same MMR.

But if suddenly everyone get’s that easily – they won’t value it and i (together with those who gained it as well) would feel cheated, lose – lose situation

Oh, i don’t know. I most certainly do not feel cheated. I just remember all the negative feelings getting that wings generated in me, and i would never wish that upon anyone else. It’s not like everyone else having it as bad as me would make me feel any better after all.

Why AP for the top 250 titles is not cool

in PvP

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Reasons:
1) Only a limited amount of players can get them, most of them will go to people who do not even care about the AP part.

I find it funny that suddenly you consider something being exclusive, limited to a small number of people, to be a bad thing, when in all previous cases you took the exact opposite side.
Perhaps it’s because you don’t think you can get those APs yourself?

Long; nobody cares about a few AP, after all you get 10 AP for free every day

That’s Malediktus you’re talking about. Of course he cares about few APs.
(also, no, some of us no longer get any APs for dailies).

but have to grind hard for the real achiefments and get nearly nothing – but a skin, that skin was the reason we tortured us, dealt with that horrible pip/division system – if it is now easy to get instead of more difficult, why did i torture myself? I could have waited…

So, after getting through that torture, instead of thinking that it shouldn’t have been that way, you’d rather inflict it on others as well? You do realize, that if everyone had been thinking this way, nothing ever would get improved?

That also means for future skins, i don’t need to care, just wait and i get that all for free

Strawman much?

this game is about cosmetics

Yep. And this item is not cosmetic. It has no visible component.

Many people are too timid to try high level fractals and would rather spend the money to buy the rock and complete the steps

You do realize, that the new LS3 maps give us a much easier way to obtain ascended rings with all stat sets, without needing to jump through hoops or doing any fractals?

Depends a lot of what you are farming.
Lots of players do the AB Tarir meta event which gives lots of loot, but most of that loot is greens and blues of which about half wont sell on the TP immediately so you have to list them and pay the 5% listing fee, or try salvaging them which usually doesnt yeild much thats sellable, so most goes to the vendors.

You’d usually salvage during multiloot, because there isn’t always a vendor available close by, and vendoring greens/blues would slow you down significantly (they fill your inventory way too fast).

DPS meters help raids be more accessible

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Right now we have exclusion of entire builds and professions, with a dps meter we’ll have exclusion of bad players. It’s a choice, which one is “better”?

Not really a choice, as having a dps meter would not suddenly stop having those builds and professions excluded. You’d simply have one more exclusion factor.
(also, remember that most of the exclusion happens before dps meter would show anything).

Besides, i agree with BrotherBelial here. Meters were useful in “the #1 Raid game”, because the difficulty was primarily gear based. It was important to check whether you were geared for the encounter. In GW2, most of the difficulty comes from things that wouldn’t show on meters at all.

Except that in raiding game #1 it works perfectly.

Not for that reason, it doesn’t. It works okay here, because LFR lets you gear up, and because it starts your path towards raiding with success, rather than failure (which is a significant psychological factor). Not because it actually teaches you anything (mind you, i don’t say that it doesn’t, but that it’s not a main factor behind its success).

Concent./expertise excluded from "all stats"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

@Rauderi

Why would it tick off people that invested into those stats if they added the stats to be included? They wouldn’t have to change anything besides adding the stats to the “all stats” calculation

because all the values would need to get reduced to account for the added stats unless you are just asking for these things to get buffed

Why? It’s not like Celestial is a good stat set in PvE (it’s not even close to be mediocre). Adding Concentration and Expertise without nerfing other stats would not change that in the slightest.
It might have been different in PvP, of course, but Celestial amulet got removed from that mode completely, so it doesn’t matter.

So, no, you wouldn’t need to reduce anything

What if I just want Celestial stats or any of those items but not the other 2 stats because it think those make my build weak?

Why having more stats would make your build weaker? It’s not like you’d be losing anything. At worst, adding those two stats might be useless for your build, but it would never weaken it.

I’m up to 8g now. Drain your own gold, leave the rest of us alone.

Only the more wealthy will be more incline to drain their gold for comestic, and as a side effect, your 8g will have more purchasing power as more gold is drained from the economy.

If things will cost more (which is what you’re really advocating), then no, his gold will have even less purchasing power.

Sinks or no sinks, those that can afford the most costly ones will still be able to replenish their loss much, much faster than those on the other end of the wealth spectrum.

Pre Cursor crafting is a joke!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Crafting was actually supposed to be a lot more expenisve than outright buying one in order to compensate for the fact that luck was removed from the table.

There’s no luck involved in buying from TP. There’s a steady flow of precursors in there, you don’t really need to hope for someone to drop one and put it on sale. In fact, considering some events and drops involved, precursor crafting does include some not so insignificant dose of luck.

And no, crafting was supposed to be an alternative to both relying on luck (direct drops, forging) or paying through the nose (TP). It ended up containing a bit of the former and a massive amount of the latter however.

So you also got some fun for that money.

Or, as someone pointed out already, you pay for inconvenience.

To be fair, Precursors were a lot more expensive until crafting them became an option, then the prices between crafting and buying evened out to what it is now.

That may be true for a few of the, but definitely wasn’t for the remaining majority.

Season 5 looks terrible

Astralporing.1957

I can for see one massive problem with this system so far with out playing it.

If a good player where to throw there 10 placement matches, they would be placed with the new players, then they could just farm wins and rewards for fun. What’s the incentive not to do this? You know there will be people out there who will do this if there is more to be gained from doing it.

There are three possible outcomes:

  • You throw your matches and then get yourself stuck in glicko hell.
  • You throw your matches and actually start playing poorly like continuing to make a funny face when your mom told you not to.
  • You throw your matches and then as you win, your rating shoots right back up again.

Ok cool. So someone who throws matches to be placed will find that they will climb quickly then? I’m just trying to understand what sage guards there are, last thing I want are placement games I lose because people want to throw them for “loot farming scrubs” or what ever they will call it.

Let’s see…
(just guessing here, don’t hold me to my words)

You start at your real skill MMR. You can now:
1. Tank your mmr
2. Keep playing normally.

The results will be:
1. You lose 10 matches, your mmr drops. You start winning, you win 10 matches, you’re back at the MMR you started with.
2. yu play 20 matches. Since you’re playing at your skill level, your winrate will be around 50%. You end up winning 10 matches and losing 10.

Notice, how the longterm end result in both situations is the same. You gain nothing by tanking mmr.
It worked in some of the previous seasons due to the tier/division savespots and double-system matchmaking (pips+mmr). This time none of those things will be around.

Also, it was mentioned that the pip gain will be faster in higher skill divisions, so tanking may end up earning you less rewards than playing normally.

You can’t die while doing it. Let the guy finish talking first and let Braham do his “you should see this” line. And occasionally one will get stuck IN the wall, which will bork you.

There are a couple extras so one or two in the wall isn’t a problem.

You know, I thought that too, considering I got the achievement on my first try. I had to go through it 3 more times with my husband before he finally got it.

Was he a condi build? Condi damage does not tag for this, you have to deal enough direct damage for the mob to be counted.
