Fear me is literally a skill which could decide team fights if used properly.
but if a thief stole from a necro, then the thief would have a “fear me!” as well, right?
the cool down for thief’s Steal could be 31.25s – 45 seconds …so how?
The pre-condition for a Thief to be able to use it is for a necromancer to be present in the area, and to port to him and take it from him. The skill itself also is not instant-cast, like the actual Fear Me.
The pre-condition for a Warrior to be able to use it is to have it in a utility slot.
Resident Thief
I am very nervous they didn’t say anything about thieves on the sotg.
To be fair, they didn’t mention anyone except Warrior and Necro.
Resident Thief
can you link where they talk about trait changes hadnt heard that
It was mentioned in a tourney stream, I believe – Jon said that there’s at least 1 change in every trait line for every class, meaning that all Thief lines will see something.
I expect Mug will be DA, or perhaps a change to Corrosive Traps, or perhaps Improvisation.
CS, I don’t know – Ankle Shots or Combo Critical Chance may be modified, or more likely, Critical Haste could see a duration increase.
SA, I also don’t know – number changes to XII, perhaps.
Acro, not a clue.
Trickery, also don’t know, perhaps a modification to how Bountiful Theft works (all stacks of Might, taking full durations of other boons etc.)?
I’d be mighty shocked if I saw changes that significant, though.

Sure, stealth is a nuisance…in hot-joins. You know, where nobody gives a rat’s kitten about capturing points.
Any Thief using Stealth extensively in a tournament team is contributing nothing and should be kicked. The mechanic prevents you interacting with the main objective of the kittening game.
Sounds like an easy fix then. Replace traits that reward you for being stealthed with traits that reward you for being unstealthed/ general survival traits and everyone wins! Less stealth and thieves get to interact with the main objective! Yay!!
I would be perfectly happy with that. I’ve always hated Stealth as a mechanic. I want Assassin back.
Problem is you have an unstealthed assassin already, known as S/D S/D runes of lyssa/energy sigils and massive dodge thief.
A class with one build.
AMAZING.
A class with at least 2 very viable builds, AMAZING!
meanwhile elementalist only viable one is D/D. EVEN MORE AMAZING!
I’m talking about the hypothetical GW2 Assassin, not Thief.
Resident Thief
@Auesis.7301, Look at the screenshot you can clearly see 3 CnD Backstabs in under 11 seconds.
You did not dodge 2 CnDs for that to be possible. It cannot happen. You dodged something else.
That, or you dodged both CnDs and then sat twiddling your thumbs while his initiative recharged over ~5-10 seconds, without shutting him down in any way whatsoever.
Resident Thief
(edited by Auesis.7301)
You say you dodged 2 CnDs (reducing the Initiative pool to either a maximum of 3 or 0) and then immediately got spammed to death by 515151.
How? That’s physically impossible. Either you’re lying, there’s something you missing out, or you didn’t dodge C+D and you were mistaken in what you dodged.

I solo roam WvW with a Warrior also. The only Thieves I really struggle with are the P/D whittlers, and that’s when I forget my condition duration -% food. Other than that, I usually have no problem. As soon as one approaches, I get extremely aggressive, and it makes them panic. Great fun.
They had better hope they have a teleport ready, because if either Shield Bash or Bull’s Charge lands, that’s it. Game over. Eviscerate <3
Resident Thief
Did it on Thief first try with no problem whatsoever. I really don’t understand how anyone would have trouble with a fight that is nothing but kiting and making sure that you don’t go too close to any hostile mines should you not have any stunbreakers.
Resident Thief
Not sure exactly who it was we were up against, but both Arbor and FS, you gave my little 2 warrior/1 mesmer group the most fun I’ve had in weeks! We ended up with 4 or 5 at random points when random people showed up, but holding Dreadfall Bay while outnumbered so heavily for so long – that was GREAT. Felt good knowing we had to make the whole lot of you respawn to finally overwhelm us the second time
If any of you recognise me, I was the Warrior with the Fractal GS who got extremely zealous very often and charged in to you :P
EDIT: I think it was the same Arbor group at Bluevale just now – severely outnumbered, yet we still managed to take you all out – I advise you call out targets because I felt largely unthreatened. Just some friendly advice :P
EDIT2: Finally got weeded out xD

because you can’t cap points while stealthed.
I kid…a little, but seriously—stop painting it as a weakness in conquest mode. Thief is made to be a vulture; picking off the weak or unsuspecting and roaming to trash trebs and steal npc kills. AND THE PROFESSION IF EFFING FANTASTIC AT IT.
Thief also could use some toning down so they can’t dance in and out of a group, nab a kill, and disappear.
So, you don’t want them to help cap points, and you also don’t want them to be efficient at anything not involving the points.
Admit it – you just want the class deleted. You cannot justify your logic in any other way.
Resident Thief
Currently on a 100mpbs connection – every other application and service operates at maximum speed with no problem – join WvW, all attacks have a delay of at least 3-4 seconds, I can’t even fight one other person without running to a wall and teleporting all over the place. Both tPvP and PvE don’t even have a millisecond of delay.
Even sitting at spawn with no other players around, I can’t use an attack without an immense delay.
Absolutely RIDICULOUS.
Resident Thief
I figured that rolling the class centered around mobility and subterfuge would teach me the most about avoiding attacks, watching for tells/animations, being aware of the state of the battlefield, predicting enemy movement/tactics and how to utilise my own positioning as well as the enemy’s to gain the upper-hand.
I was right. Every other class I rolled took a benefit.

A simple punch in the face to knock them out so they drown while unconscious. With the right animation, I’d be camping out at Ruins more often.
Resident Thief
There are some pretty poor counter-arguments by Thieves here, but you’re not helping your case by reeling off wiki links with no respect for the place they have in builds.
Most high-end tPvP builds don’t even have 5 Shadow Arts, so Shadow’s Embrace is a rare occurrence anywhere that isn’t hot-join pub-stomping. Even if you were to use it, you would be doing the following things:
1) Allowing the target to continue capping a point (stealth essentially removes you from the game – you cannot contest points and any Thief using stealth extensively is hurting the team and should be kicked)
2) Wasting time – the exchange of 1 removal every 3 seconds is pitiful when the consequence is to remove yourself from the game. A Guardian can purge conditions in a much more efficient manner while not uncontesting the point he or she is on, while not putting him/herself too far on the defensive. Gradual removal is irrelevant. A Thief should not be designing him/herself around sustainability in that manner – every other class does it better in a competitive environment. Putting yourself out of the game for extended periods to get rid of conditions that got bursted on you – how hilarious.
I would even go so far as to say that you shouldn’t even mention Stealth in competitive PvP – in a mode where capturing and contesting points is a crucial element, talking about a mechanic that prevents interaction with that element is just stupid. If it were to be used at all, it would be for anything other than the main objective, and it would not be used in a sustainable manner that warrants Shadow Arts at all, hence the 25/30/x/x/x madness.
I could reel off every single Mesmer trait and skill and shout LOOK AT THESE OMG ALL OF THESE OP NERF – but they’re not all used at once, and some of them aren’t used at all. Learn to appreciate the actual use of each ability instead of just glossing over tooltips.

I crafted Incinerator, Bolt and Quip, and I don’t expect a bright spotlight to somehow appear above my head wherever I walk with a big sign that says “APPRECIATE ME!”
They’re just skins.
But you come on the forums to gloat that you have not just 1, but 3? Gotcha.
You could have just said “I crafted mine and don’t feel the need for a big sign”.
Not to gloat, but to further emphasise the point that no matter how much effort you’ve put in, it means nothing and you deserve no special treatment for it.

None of my armor sets are really supposed to be protective, since all of my characters are pretty much totally Berserker. My Warrior is Sonic Boon so has a TINY bit of toughness to back her up, but that’s about it. I find that being totally unpractical is justified in that sense. :P
The big exception is my Guardian, who is built totally tanky and is wearing gear that suits it.

Engi and/or Necro, because those are the only ones I don’t have and I can’t be bothered to go through the process again.

The idea Jon mentioned where you would instantly finish off an underwater player by ripping off the mask made me smile.

I’m gutted with rubbish artwork like the moot, and bows that shoot unicorns WTF Anet. I been playing GW1 for 6 years and the weapon art and armors were on the most part great then GW2 comes out and you make a mace with a disco ball and a bow that shoots rainbows and unicorns WTF. That’s things that belong in games like WOW or that other game I forget whakittens called, the new one with the rabit race etc. Don’t put such ridiculous skins in such a good game. novelty gear from the gem store is one thing but end game legendary skins that are straight out of a kids cartoon? really? sort it out fast. Get your gw1 artists back because 70% of the armor and weapon art is rubbish. Look at games like gw1,aion and they have a very cool art direction. as it stands gw2 is moving backwards in its art concepts.
Ps all other art in game is amazing and that’s why unicorn bows ruin it.
Oh how I’d love to stand next to you and spam my Quip.
Legendary weapons aren’t mandatory – you don’t have to get them. Get a different skin if you prefer that one. The “cool” ones are overrated, anyways.

You realise that’s not how Signet of Agility works? It cures one condition FOR each ally. One condition on each ally nearby is cured. Maximum of one.
Resident Thief
I don’t get the problem – the Thief’s status bar will tell you that he has initiated a Shadowstep maneuver (if you somehow didn’t spot the teleport in your direction). If you wanted to lock him down for good, you should have shifted yourself further towards his origin before setting up shop.
Quite simply, you’re playing a static build against a mobile one. Rock/paper/scissors.

One thing you guys should know is that I suck at this game right now. I stopped playing for a little over a month and when I came back in for an hour, it was amazing how bad I was. I don’t even know how to control my character or camera anymore :s
Although I bet if I played for a day or 2 I could shake that rust off
I know that feeling – lost my PC for 2 weeks and I could barely function when I got back in to it – doesn’t take long to adjust/settle back down
I don’t know why but when I pictured what you went through it looked like you lost your pc the same way someone would lose a dog. Picturing a tower and monitor coming back home just seemed funny to me.
That’s exactly what it felt like :’(

I must have missed that first wave of PvE requests – I would have definitely said something.
Hey RFF Markus here
we are doing this sort of episodic so some episodes are going to be PvE focused for sure. Would definitely like to talk to you if you are an expert on the subject! Can you write me? maybe we could figure something out
You aswell Auesis
Once this weekend is out of the way (exams + drunken aftermath), I’ll be more than happy to talk about sorting something out

I never use it, ever. Against anyone who knows what they’re doing, it’s either a “knockback/pull/push here” or “AoE here” button.
PvE, I MIGHT have it equipped if I’m in a PUG and I don’t know if people can keep themselves alive.
Resident Thief
If S/X is nerfed, then how bad is P/D such that it doesn’t even warrant a mention in all of the above possible combinations (and hasn’t been mentioned anywhere else in this thread)? What is it about P/D that seems beneath all consideration?
The same problem P/P has. Vital Shot is terrible and not worth mentioning until it’s fixed to its intended state.
Resident Thief
Sword has condition damage synergy? Where?
I don’t know of a single condition build that uses Sword.
Resident Thief
30 minutes in – PvE seems to have come and gone. I would have liked to discuss some of the PvE aspects more – the only point that was covered was the bog-standard “Warriors do it better”, which applies to more than just Thief.
I haven’t bothered to produce content that is as in-depth as RFF (though I would like to put in more effort in to my own content when I have time), but I would at least have something to say. Thief Dungeons/PvE is pretty much all I do.
That said, there might be more PvE stuff mentioned in here, but I just haven’t reached it – just my initial thoughts.

Running 25/30/0/15/0 D/D in solo queue just for the dodge safety net, works just fine.
Learn when to engage and when to not engage. You’re not supposed to seek out 1v1s – that’s not the objective.

- Black Powder skill: No longer fires its projectile backward while moving. The field can still be generated.
- Shadow Refuge skill: Now lists its duration in the tooltip.
- Shadow Return skill: No longer has infinite range.
- Shadow Shot skill: The second half now hits the target more reliably even if the player happens to jump while the bullet is in the air.

For my Thief, I used a helm skin to make her look a little different to others that use the same original face template. Quite thematic, too.
For the rest, I just like how they look, and I’ve yet to see other characters that look exactly like them.
Resident Thief
I do that a lot, mostly to get away but sometimes to get a bunch of players to blow their AoE so I can more easily tackle each one.

Actually heard the opposite. Fire does more damage despite being AOE.

I’m also very tempted to just forget about Refuge altogether – nobody EVER pays attention to it.

I’ve had no problems with my Thief for over 2k hours of dungeoneering.
I’ve had the occasional “OMG TIEFS R TEH SUCK” from a few people, who immediately shut up when they notice I’m carrying them the whole time.

Yes it is, I was simply responding to that comment.

Wah!!!
Go to Southsun Cove as a guardian, warrior, ranger, ect… and fight a karka. Than try it with a D/D thief and it’s pretty obvious who has the most difficult time / takes the longest.
D/D tears Karka to pieces.

I remember one particular pug of HotW P1 that I ran – the Warrior in the group showed immediate disdain, saying all Thieves are cowards that just hide in the shadows. In both Stormbringer and Butcher encounters, I engaged them in melee with no problem whereas he sat back with a Rifle and still got downed a number of times, being ressed most of the time by me Shadowstepping back and/or Refuging him.
He didn’t say a word after that

That whole “Guild Wars means wars and guilds” argument is redundant. Guild Wars is a title based on a specific period in the lore and NOTHING more. Stop it with that tired statement.
