I agree that this i5 is performing more than well enough for this game but as for the problem you’re experiencing, I haven’t a clue what is going on unfortunately.
Although looking at the processor, being that it is one of the higher end processors in the mobile ivybridge i5 line and that it has 8 GB DDR3, I am half expecting it to have a GT650M or a GTX660M or a Radeon HD 7750M. Wonder how many things can cause this kind of issue…
If you’ve not been seeing any improvement of the game from upgrading to a GTX Titan, it’s probably because a Radeon HD 7850 can totally max this game and still run well if you have an intel i5 quad core processor, or an overclocked intel i3 processor (one of my guild mates has an overclocked i3 and has no problem with frame rates aside from the EXPECTED drops in specific areas)

What you want to upgrade to will depend on what power supply wattage you have of course so check that and if you can drop in a new GPU without hassle then go for it. If you can’t, do some research and find which one won’t cost you a fortune I guess. Radeon HD 7790 or 7770 will go pretty far in this game too. Bit of money saved and can be used to upgrade the PSU if you need to.

even nvidia make a low level api for steamos but thats different topic.
If you think you understand hardware level API, which I already mentioned Nvidia has had for years (years before SteamOS came to be), then you SHOULD understand that until it is actually out and we have hard numbers behind it, you are doing nothing but believing possibility only.
If you don’t understand the use of low-level hardware API, it allows developers to work more closely with the “silicon” so to speak and bypass much of the software required to normally do so through the likes of DirectX. That’s as simple as I can sum it up for you.
When it is actually out and IN USE, we can then judge it based on hard numbers, until then, anything you think you know is purely speculation.

I think CryTek might get some work with the Mantle project too since their Crysis 3 game was sponsored by AMD majorly. But who knows? Something to look forward to. I don’t believe Guild Wars will EVER grab any sort of mantle stuff. I don’t care if this game never gets direct x 11 api garbage. Just make it run better for AMD processors and I’d be very satisfied.

Since I started playing, I’ve been seeing some players with the mad king’s outfit. That one with the pumpkin helm, etc. I’m just wondering; will that be available on this Halloween living story? I wanted to get it as well but I only started playing back at the beginning of May. If it is available… Hooray! If not, oh well. Maybe something just as cool will show up lol.

@Avelos: Yeah, those players have been salvaging Ectos. It’s not uncommon to get 2 – 3 Rare Essences of Luck from a single Ecto.
I just salvaged 24 ectos with black lion salvage kit and got at least 1 masterwork essence or 5 fines

My mistake. I had only read your first post where you mentioned nothing of the possible problems of having the company OC it for you.
Right so it’s good to assume everyone knows how to OC their processor yeah mhmm — I’d happily pay the extra 10-20 dollars to have my processor overclocked by 1 GHz or a little more because I’m quite inexperienced with it. Sure you can google it, but why not just have it arrive already done? I’d go for it personally. I mean, sure not everyone will because they can do it themselves but some people don’t want to mess with that sort of thing.
Also yes the i7 4770K even at 4.5 GHz will see some frame loss, but only in huge player events like extremely populated world boss events or wvw especially. It won’t be hardcore drops but it’ll still be playable. 20-30 fps is playable in my books.

Better for OP to just upgrade his processor if his mainboard supports Ivybridge. Doesn’t require a mainboard transplant at that point.
Terok, I’m sure that guild wars 2 runs better on your laptop than your desktop. I have an i7/GTX 670MX laptop and it runs better on it when I leave render sampling at native than super sampling like I have on my desktop. Super Sampling makes no difference in my opinion on a 17.3 inch display because you gotta look hard to see it with such small pixels.
My desktop is also FX-8350 and 7970.
Of course they need to fix it. But it likely won’t happen anytime soon. There are people using i7 3930K processors clocked up at high as 4.6 GHz and even they get 30 fps in wvw at best on huge fights.
This game was designed to run on 5 year old hardware and yet it simply just does not.
The unfortunate reality is that people have to brute force this game and even worse is that ANet isn’t saying much in terms of what they’re working to optimize. At least, I haven’t seen anything worth mentioning. I’d appreciate if this game didn’t run so bad on even an AMD FX-8350. There’s hardly a difference if I go to 5 GHz from 4.

It’s not a GPU heavy game. your 7870 is eating this game alive. a Radeon HD 7790 has no problem maxing this game I bet. It’s your CPU I am afraid. I get terrible FPS in some places where there’s a tonne of people. I was standing at the portals to wvw yesterday in Black Gate at reset, and my fps was down to 8-7 fps just looking at the people standing there.
An intel processor with your same specs would probably see double the FPS in most areas excluding wvw.
FYI, comparing an MMO to an FPS optimized for AMD is not a comparison at all.
I don’t think it will happen. This thread is 7 months old without any word or confirmation aside from the rare chance that we see concept art (which is not confirmation that there will be a playable race)
Yeah, as SolarNova said, don’t change to an AMD processor for Guild Wars 2. I’d hate to say it but you will regret it if you do with the performance of intel being so much more superior than AMD for this game. You could just upgrade to an i7 2600k or just a regular i7 2600 if you don’t have a motherboard that supports overclocking (although you don’t need an overclocking motherboard to justify having an overclockable processor. Having the best CPU of a line would be enough of a merit in my books.)
Also, you could consider dropping an Ivy Bridge processor (Also LGA 1155) onto the board, but only if the board supports it. Recommendations beyond i5 2400 is the 3470, 3550, 3570, 3570K. If you’re feeling bold, i7 3770S, 3770, or 3770K. Remember though; only if your board supports it. I’m sure that it will however given that your board is already LGA 1155 but just go make sure that it does support Ivy Bridge though if you do not know.

It goes as low as 1fps? I use a i5 2400 with a gtx 650 and Ive never seen it go below 15fps would the fx 8350 be a downgrade?
Rarely (and I do mean, RARELY, like extremely rare) will it go as low as 1 FPS. The only time I’ve seen it go that far down was hugely extreme load going on in a localized area of the map. The intels have it superior because of their single threaded performance which this game desires over AMD’s lackluster single threaded performance. For this game, it may be a somewhat downgrade in comparison to an i5 2400, but for other games it could be an improvement.
Either way, it’s still a fantastic processor for 200 dollars or less.

I’m absolutely sure it will do the exact same as mine. Give or take up to 2 fps.
as low as 6 FPS in huge zergs in wvw (ridiculously stupidly huge zerg fight) 15 FPS when looking at the bank from the mystic forge in lion’s arch normally 20-30 in high populated area (big server high population count example I will use, Black Gate, culling options and detail set to highest,)
Absolutely great in PVE, but down to as low as 6 FPS in world boss events (new Tequatl— extremely rare for this to happen, but possibly even as low as 1 fps)
I play with everything maxed except for Reflections and Shadows (which usually now I just leave off)
I don’t know how well it does SPVP but it plays all I need it to play enjoyably for me.
It usually goes somewhere around 50-60 FPS in PVE (also I use Vsync)
By switching to ‘best performance’ though, huge events like world bosses and ZvZ become easier to see without the slideshow effect. Looks awful though.
I run my FX-8350 at stock settings, it turbos to 4.1 GHz all the time in GW2.

Incorrect. I bought a physical copy and it came with two loaded DVDs that installed around 15-16 GB of data and then downloaded another 4GB of updates.
I’m gonna go ahead and say the message suppressor is downright kittened.
It doesn’t matter how much time is between the same message repeated. If it’s the exact same thing repeated three times, the fourth time will be suppressed. Waypoints count as the same thing too.
CursedShaitan, if you’re running crossfire on your 7700 series cards, disable crossfire for your game and guild wars should give you a couple extra frames. This game hates crossfire.
Wow that’s an awesome laptop you have there. I’ve always loved what Origin did with their machines. This problem though that you’re having I’m not even sure what it could be. It’s not mentioned anywhere in this topic but have you tried running it in Admin mode?
Also out of plain curiosity, does your Origin machine (Likely an Eon-17s or SLX?) have one or two GTX 680m?
Maybe you have that issue or something where the CPU activity drops and the GPU activity skyrockets
780’s are better for gaming than Titans.

The GTX 780 is a binned Titan.
They both use the same GK110 chip.
Titan has 2,688 Cuda cores.
GTX 780 has 2,304 Cuda cores.
Looking at reference design, ignoring cost,
Titan is better.
But I suppose, that when you take the GTX 780 for it being at least $350 cheaper, and you can bump up the clocks a little bit (can’t do anything for the fact of 3 GB GDDR5 though,) then the 780 will be better.

Simple gamers don’t need it nor will they buy it. There’s a lot of PC enthusiasts who throw that kind of money into a new system each year when new GPUs and processors come out so they do just that.
And if you don’t need the Titan, then why are you trying to tell us that there’s no point to having it? Other people want it. You don’t. Stop being so abrasive about it.
That little icon in the tray of icons on the top right of the screen, the BL Trading Post one. Whenever you mouse over it and you have money and or items on pickup, it’ll say one of or both of two things: “Coins for pickup” or ‘Items for pickup"
I had a thought, why not for the coins, show how much coins for pickup in the little mouseover thing? Or perhaps show how many coins, and a few items waiting for pick up? One or two items so it doesn’t become huge and intrusive while you’re doing whatever in game. Just a sort of thought.
Since some of the R9 and R7 cards are rebranded/faster versions of AMD Radeon HD 7000 cards, I wonder if my 7970s will see anything Mantle related. I mean, they’re GCN as well but, you know.
Oh yes, running two GTX Titans is going to make the electricity bill skyrocket. When I assembled my PC, the bill for electricity went up by a few dollars. Maybe as much as 3.
GTX Titan is perfect for gaming on a single screen at 3840×2160, or just keeping the frame rates at 60 FPS or higher at all times in a game when you have the right processor paired with it (IE, i7 3770K or 3570K or 4670K or 4770K or any of the LGA 2011 products if it’s a CPU heavy game)
If I had the money for it, I would definitely buy a pair of GTX Titans. But I have two 7970s that I’m satisfied with. When I went out to build my PC, I wanted it to be the best at the time so I bought what I wanted. Heck, I would love to have myself an intel i7 extreme edition system running 4 way SLI Titans. Why? Because I can and I’d use it of course. Would be a gaming PC that lasted for YEARS and years.

Not sure what your issue might be. One of the buddies I play the game with has double Titan SLI and a 3820 i7 and I asked what kind of FPS he got. He said… “When everyone else is crying in wvw, I’m laughing.” so… I guess that’s high fps ._. Your issue though I dunno what it could possibly be.

Yes this computer will play PVE content fairly enjoyably. I recommend turning off shadows and reflections and leaving render sample at native for world boss events.
64 bit client would be a decent start towards better performance I think.
Crossfire is terrible in this game. It would be better if you had four 6970s because then you could go single card and get 60 fps with best appearance.
20 fps is about as good as you’ll get in zvz.
As i said; max settings and not optimally overclocked.
