Each company has their ups and downs. I’m an owner of an all AMD machine, but I didn’t build it for Guild Wars 2 specifically. If I were however to build a computer exclusively for Guild Wars 2, I’d use an i5 or an i7. Most likely an i7. It doesn’t matter on the graphics in my opinion. Though I favor Radeon.
Intel has been beating AMD in CPU dependent gaming since the Core 2 came out.
Phenom II.
It just doesn’t like AMD Crossfire. Nothing really more to say. Not even a crossfire application profile fixed it for me and my 7970s. Just use one card /shrug/

Because Google+ sucks.
Yes. I only launch it from steam because steam chat.
You know I was thinking about this the night previous. the censor word on the forums, there should be options for other words in substitute XD
Like kitties. Or cats. Or chocolate. Or woo woo!
Or something silly XD ‘Kitten’ gets a bit dry after a while but still funny
Or other words relating to GW2. A list of words that people can choose to replace their censor word and if they don’t choose one, it defaults. Or one where it rotates through all of the words.
“I got hit by an omnomberry when I was trying to dredge this kitten piece of dawn.”
I got into the game because a friend showed me his Charr warrior. and I was like “Okay. buying brb.”
I think the only way you’d find a laptop for $1200 to meet or exceed the performance of your desktop is if you spend 1600 or more.
Then there must have been a lot of updates so far. Geez. Thanks you two though.
Yup! About 4 GB or something.
Not as bad as say The Witcher 2 though. Fresh from install, like 14-15 GB of updates. the game is 17 GB. Basically 90% of it replaced
any case that will hold it all of course xD One with good air flow preferrably. I’d also recommend like kitten-700 watt power supply. a 650 watt will do it all just fine and give you breathing room for future upgrades such as a second 660 Ti if you wanted it.
Make a Corsair brand one or a Rosewill or Cooler Master. Cooler Master case too. I like their cases.
why I recommend keeping the game on the HDD over the SSD is longevitiy of the game. More writes will use up the life of the game but I’m paranoid about keeping my SSD last long so I just have small basic things on it like OS and browser and other small programs and such. I didn’t have any noticeable performance increase on the SSD even at loading screens, so.
the *DVD*s contain the original game and everything about the original at the time of release. The downloaded stuff is updates.
Sounds like a power supply issue, although Seasonic seems to be a decent brand.
To early to assume that. :/
I had that on my old computer whenever I had a wicked overclock going on an old Athlon dual core from 2.4 GHz to 2.75 GHz. It’d take a half hour of resetting to get it to POST
mine is reading 17.1 GB.
Reset CMOS by pulling the tab by the little battery and placing it on pins 2 and 3 from 1 and 2 and then reset it to 1 and 2 and see if it does anything
I was about to make a forum thread that just says “make dyes account bound.”
but then I found this.
If you like disrupting zerg trains do this…
You: “troll up”
Someguy: “troll isn’t up yet”
You: “yes it is. TROLOLOLOLOLOL”
Oh my god I’m gonna go do that now
Yes this will meet your needs. Personally I recommend keeping GW2 on the HDD.
Also this seems to be a popular choice for regular gaming computers. It’ll max it for the most part with enjoyable frames.
I run the game with reflections on terrain and sky and that’s about it everything else maxed. AMD FX-8350 turboing to 4.1 GHz and a 7970 on 925/1375. Not the best performance because game favors intel single threaded performance.
Your FPS would be increased if you could disable crossfire on your Radeon HD 5970.
GW2 hates crossfire.
[…]
In your case, I assume the graphs would show near 100% usage for 2-4 cores of your CPU and less than 60% usage for your GPU.He wrote it is a SIX (6) CORE! And it is a AMD FX 6120. I assume this CPU is running at 3,6 Ghz. This is surely NO bottleneck!
The performance of GW2 is just bad. I have the same… playin all games on ULTRA except GW2. I need to set it on medium to maintain 60 fps.
No, it is a bottleneck. I have an 8 core at 4 GHz (4.1 turboing most of the time for GW2) and it’s still bottlenecking because of the inferior single thread performance.
GW2 favors dual cores and quad cores. Especially intel variety.
(edited by Avelos.6798)
Battlefield 3 and Guild Wars 2 can’t be compared. GW2 is a CPU intensive game whereas BF3 is a GPU intensive game. What’s your processor? If it’s an AMD processor, that’d be why. Intels have the superior single thread performance needed for this game. AMDs are good and all but GW2 favors the intels. Awful optimization.
OHHHHH, Yes i have a AMD 6120 Six-Core Processor. Darn it, are u serious? SO that’s the problem? Uhgg -.-
Hey you can still get enjoyable performance at least.
I also recommend, if you’re able to, overclocking it.
Terrible idea. gtfo

I am fine. I feel myself better than in other games like Aion. BTW this game requires better processors, not video cards. So i always play on max settings. You can try max settings too, no impact at all.
With 100 people around servers lag sometimes, but my fps is good.
Sorry man, but you’re full of kitten. With 100 people on the screen and everything maxxed you’re not running anywhere near 60 fps with your setup. Not. A. Chance.
He might get close to 60 FPS if those people weren’t attacking things
Am I really seeing a flame war go on in here? That’s pathetic.
[EDITEDITEDITEDIT]
Okay so I just noticed someone said that OP may have an AM3+ board. If that is true, then I recommend at least going for a processor upgrade of say an AMD FX-4170 or 4350. They’re not expensive. Just a thought!
I would skip the bulldozer part and go with anything viscera, FX 43XX, FX 63XX, or FX 83XX.[/quote]
Price is where it matters.
I used to. I got kitten ed off too much when I fell at the midpoint or end of hard jump puzzles.
I’m an enthusiastic on PC gamer tech, so I’m upgrading my computer every year anyway
I can only wish I had money like that to upgrade each year.
I’m running a i7 3770k OCd to 4,2Ghz with a GTX670 and I feel my rig isn’t running GW2 well enough, because I can’t keep a steady 60 FPS in big events and WvW with everything maxxed.
That’s because the game’s software platform engine is a POS. If it was optimized well enough and stuff, I bet you’d get like 90 or more FPS in wvw. :F Also just in case you don’t know, people with computers that have i7 3930K overclocked to 4.6 GHz aren’t hitting 60 FPS in wvw either.
(edited by Avelos.6798)
I’m not looking for mind blowing perfomance at the moment, just performance that will allow me to run the game at a decent framerate on decent settings
then the specs you listed at the beginning will be more than capable
I don’t believe an i5 is needed, nor an upgrade to GPU.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGkLabR0G6A
This forum thread on another website lists ideal builds for this game as well, including a budget build that’ll do 60 FPS with tweaked settings.
http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1186616-Guild-Wars-2-CPU-and-GPU-Benchmarks
Personally, I wouldn’t respond to it. Or click any links in it or whatever.
Very well. Also for the record, the i5 3317U processor is a dual core.
But the game runs good on dual cores anyway. I’d wager what was holding you back was the lack of decent graphics chip for the game. HD 4000 is good in it’s own right for small things but the GTX 650 TI will eat this game.
I think the system specs you listed will do just fine and you should go ahead with it!
With that power supply being at 300 watts, you’ll need to purchase a replacement power supply (I recommend minimum 500 watt to give some breathing room) if you want to buy a Radeon HD 7700 series chip or a 7850.
Whenever I quickly switch through notes, there’s a pause of silence. Like, really quick switching through notes and there’s no more continuous sound and it just makes it sound awful now. Ruins the entire instrument for me and yet when other people do it, there’s no pause in the sound. ??
the marriner’s horn WAS fun and I loved the entire thing but the quick switching I might be a bit OCD about this, it ruined it for me. And then the controls of the flute were made WORSE and that ruined the flute for me. The choir bell having a timer ruined it for me before I even tried it (and I did try it. Hate it.)
I almost feel like I was lured into buying the marriner’s horn and flute only get get kitten’d over with modifications to controls or how it works that only hurt my experience of it. So now they’re hardly fun.

You won’t get 60 FPS on everything but this probably among the best you’ll get for a laptop that isn’t stupidly expensive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231090
there’s MSI ones that are slightly better but I prefer Asus.
I’d say all you would really need is a dedicated graphics card. also for the record, that Radeon HD 7660D is an integrated GPU on the processor itself. I’d buy like a Radeon HD 7750 dedicated graphics card though. Or a 7770. Don’t need anything fancy.
Also the 7850 is a good higher range graphics card. 7870 is the top of the AMD Radeon HD 7800 series so 7850 is just one step down. The game will run great on a 7700 series graphics card though. Or you could get an AMD Radeon HD 7790 and have near 7850 performance for less.
What puzzles me is I for what ever reason, I seem to remember reading years ago(way before release) that the game engine was going to be totally new and different from what was used in GW1. Must have dreamed it.
Yeah you must have been dreaming.
Software cant cause a overheat.
Yes it can. There has to be a lot of workload for that to happen though. Like, stupidly high workloads. Inconceivable amounts.
Hello OP!
Okay so now that you mention you don’t care for 60 FPS, I can make some alright recommendations on some upgrade parts.
I took a look into your current processor’s socket connection and the list of similar processors seeming compatibile (ultimately determined by your mainboard’s manufacturer,) an upgrade to your processor may be pretty costly. (An AMD Athlon64 X2 6400+ is $450 brand new and it’s OLD! Although I never looked at the price if it’s changed over the past couple years) But from what I can see, your best bet may be for purchasing new hardware. Mainly CPU, RAM, motherboard, and GPU if that matters to you, if you currently have a dedicated graphics card. However if you want a new graphics card, you may have to consider purchasing a new power supply unit as well (along with Windows IF YOU NEED TO)
So, here my suggested recommends are,
AMD A10-6800K. This processor may be a bit on the pricier side of things, however it’s the top of the line for AMD APU. the reason I picked it is because of the graphics hardware that comes onboard with the processor itself. The graphics hardware that is integrated into the processor should be powerful enough to let you play your games at a casual enjoyable pace with fair frame rates. It also comes with a huge base frequency of 4.1 GHz with a 4.4 GHz turbo so there’s no real need to overclock.
For mainboard, I recommend, MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 FM2 AMD A75 (Hudson D3).
I don’t know too much about it, but the price is low and it looks good with a lot of features and a lot of positives on the site I usually buy from. It’s only 62 dollars I think.
RAM, a single 4 GB stick G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066.
If you need or want a GPU, I recommend any of the AMD Radeon HD 7700 series graphics cards. They’re great on price.
If you need to upgrade your power supply unit,
Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply.
It’s very inexpensive but it should power all you need. It’s like 50 dollars for me I know that much.
I hope this list gives you some ideas or some help!

You could get something like an AMD FX-4350 CPU, 2×4GB sticks of ram, and a Radeon HD 7750 (or a 7770 GHz if your PSU has PCI-e power connectors) for ~$280. That’s a considerable upgrade from what you have now and a safe bet as far as being able to use the components you already have.
And not to mention, that’s a total beast of a computer there for those kinds of parts. Obviously not high end, but it’s BEAST for that price
For reference, the last version listed on wikipedia (I’m not really keeping track) is from 2010. So while it’s probably not being developed any further, it’s a stretch to call it outdated.
I agree with you that calling DX9 outdated is a stretch. Direct X 8.1 though, on the other hand, is outdated as KITTEN. Kitties. Kittles. Cats. Charr. (I don’t even know where I’m going with that end bit there)
This’d best be suited for tech support I think :x
Dx9 was made at the end of 2002 year. It is simply outdated
It’s cute that you know how to google, but then you will know that there are more than one revision of Dx9 as well. It’s not a one-time development and the last version of DX9 is much more recent. Even though your arguments are alredy irrelevant, you still seem to have no idea what you’re talking about.
Treeline, don’t be mean like that. :U
Why not explain in a way that will help the other person who doesn’t know fully what it is so that they’ll learn instead of just calling them an idiot with fancy keyboard warrior words.
Scoobaniec, DirectX 9 C is what’s currently in use which is much more recent than the original release of Direct X 9. It’s also used in the current videogame consoles and that’s probably where all of the use of DX9 in most videogames today come from. Direct X is the kind of thing that doesn’t go outdated until the most used version is no longer the most used. that’s what I think anyway.
Alright I doubt I need to say much but I’m gonna do dat anyway. the Choir Bell and Marriner’s Horn both have the same controls. But then the Flute came out and I was super excited to play it. That is, I was until I found the controls being different. The octave navigation, the held notes being automatic instead of actually holding the key, and now the double tap to turn the note off. That really makes it much more annoying to play now in my experience. I’m sure there’s some people who like it but personally, I feel it’d be better if the flute carried the Marriner’s Horn controls with the octaves and the click hold to make the note audible for longer.
But seriously, please just like… make the controls same as the Marriner’s Horn. :F
I have no idea why you guys want DX 11? Is there something you’re really missing from GW2 that DX 11 would add?
DX 10 may bring some better shadows, but from what I can tell, GW2 already has some great shadows at max settings.
DX10 is ugly and clunky :X
MMO or not, not having DX11 support in a PC EXCLUSIVE title released in 2012 is a joke especially when games run better in dx11.Guild Wars 1 w3as originally a DX8 game . Took them until Factions’ release to make the game DX9 .
No DX11 is a crime against any computers built after 2009 .
Well I guess you got me there. I also forgot that the game’s curretnyl using a DX9 software foundation so why would they scrap it and jump to DX11…
Having it in Direct X 11 would upset people with Direct X 10 cards, which there is still a fairly high number of compared to DX9 cards now. I could see this game going as far as DX10 for now but not DX11 and I highly doubt GW2 will upgrade to DX10 to begin with. If there is a ‘Guild Wars 3’ game in the future, maybe it will use Direct X 11. But it doesn’t really matter though, the game looks great either way.
Also wouldn’t this topic be better suited for the Tech support forums?
Why would it upset anyone? DX11 support doesn’t mean DX9 won’t be supported anymore… DX11 would be for those who own a gaming rig and DX9 for those gaming on a computer from Bestbuy lol
Well I guess you got me there. I also forgot the game’s currently running DX9 so why they’d scrap it for DX11 is beyond me so eh
A few nights ago I hit up to 4.7 GHz on my processor and saw my temperature go into the higher 40’s. I know CPUs can handle this and all.. but I never like my processor going that high.
That and the heat generated in my bedroom makes it hard to sleep later xD
You think 40C is high?! …for the newer processors.
you must have misread what I wrote. I said that my temperatures go into the higher 40s. Meaning, 45-49c.
And I dislike having my proc even in the 50’s.That I can understand because you have an AMD processor that like to live in a cooler environment than Intel’s processors. IIRC the maximum temperature AMD recommends is 62C so having a 10-15C barrier is a good idea. At least that is what I do with an Intel processor.
And that it’s in my room and it takes a long time for the heat to go away. This morning when I got up it was still a little hot. Granted, I was playing Guild Wars 2 all day. I actually took off my 4.7 GHz overclock yesterday and put it back to 4 GHz with 4.2 turbo (Updated my BIOS to get the turbo function. Now I feel like my PC is brand new again!) and it’s very enjoyable.
When did this problem start occurring?

That and the heat generated in my bedroom makes it hard to sleep later xD
