MMO or not, not having DX11 support in a PC EXCLUSIVE title released in 2012 is a joke especially when games run better in dx11.Guild Wars 1 w3as originally a DX8 game . Took them until Factions’ release to make the game DX9 .
No DX11 is a crime against any computers built after 2009 .
Having it in Direct X 11 would upset people with Direct X 10 cards, which there is still a fairly high number of compared to DX9 cards now. I could see this game going as far as DX10 for now but not DX11 and I highly doubt GW2 will upgrade to DX10 to begin with. If there is a ‘Guild Wars 3’ game in the future, maybe it will use Direct X 11. But it doesn’t really matter though, the game looks great either way.
Also wouldn’t this topic be better suited for the Tech support forums?
I absolutely love dual GPU cards but when it comes to being able to disable one GPU, I guess that’s where two cards succeeds.
A few nights ago I hit up to 4.7 GHz on my processor and saw my temperature go into the higher 40’s. I know CPUs can handle this and all.. but I never like my processor going that high.
That and the heat generated in my bedroom makes it hard to sleep later xD
You think 40C is high?! …for the newer processors.
you must have misread what I wrote. I said that my temperatures go into the higher 40s. Meaning, 45-49c.
And I dislike having my proc even in the 50’s.

you can’t disable crossfire on a dual GPU graphics card. You can indirectly turn it off by playing the game in windowed mode.
I can’t play Southsun Sprint. I’m a completionist and I must have the title. But I cannot play it. It being present makes me upset.
your FPS is still normal. The only thing I can recommend is getting used to it or applying an overclock to counter this FPS drop. I’d be pretty happy with it myself, personally.
Normal.
And to avoid making a one word answer, I do this.
I know how you feel OP. This game heats up my CPU more than any of my other games, even Crysis 3 and some other intense apps. I got a liquid cooler here though so it’s doing alright.
That’s weird. A buddy of mine has an i7 930 OC to 4 GHz with 12 GB DDR3 and GTX 480 2 way SLI and get’s a massive 180 FPS outside of cities. Not sure what he gets in cities but it’s still probably amazingly high. He has shadows off and reflections on trees and sky and not All (because he personally thinks it looks better, I can’t blame him) so I’d suggest try doing that first. I’d also recommend checking to be sure that your PC is running at optimum performance. Defragging and optimizing, getting rid of dust, etc. Checking that your CPU is not overheating.
This can be totally helpful too. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/How-I-fixed-my-FPS-Issues/first#post2408699
It’s the AMD processor. GW2 favors intel’s single threaded performance superiority. Don’t worry; I have the same issue.
It’s not the AMD processor, depending on the setup some settings need to be sacrificed for better performance. The FX series processors love to be overclocked, but at the same time they spew tons of heat. Invest in good cooling, find what settings will bring your fps up higher then go from there. Also check around on Microsofts website for Bulldozer/Piledriver specific hotfixes for the Windows scheduler, those fix problems within Windows itself and helps GW2 performance as well.
no, it is the the AMD processor. The intels are far superior in single threaded performance, which is what GW2 wants all of the time. My processor is overclocked to 4.2 GHz because I don’t want a huge overclock, it’s watercooled by a Corsair H100 high performance CPU cooler, and I still get only around 35-45 FPS in lion’s arch and awful performance in WVW zerg fights and world boss fights. Many people have stated this on the forums, even some IT guys. And those hot fixes will hurt the performance much worse than improve it. I have tried it and I uninstalled them immediately. They are untested with unofficial release notes. Then again I only really tried that ‘hotfix’ with a couple games before I even tried Guild Wars 2. But I’m fine with what I got for now so it’s fine. The only way you’ll get consistently good frame rates 50 and above in all areas if you perhaps overclocked to something like 4.6 GHz or better on an AMD FX 8 core processor or 6 core processor. But you’re running at 5.8 GHz so your signature suggests so that may be how you have good performance. But you have to put a lot of time and careful settings in to have that sort of monstrous overclock.
Where I get say 55 FPS on my processor in a place while running 4.2 GHz, my friend is getting closer to 80 or 90 on his i5 3570K build clocked at 4.3 GHz with 8 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 7770.
The game’s engine is just outdated and horribly optimized for today’s stuff offered by AMD.

For the same price of a 650Ti or even 650, you can get a 560Ti used and have close to twice the GPU power.
Ahah, no that’s not true. 650 TI and 560TI are pretty even now and I think it’d be safe to say the 650 TI BOOST beats the 560TI because Kepler is amaaaaaaaaaazing
The highest end 650Ti “boost” models are still 12% behind the 560Ti base model. And yet the 560Ti can be had for the price of the 650, the 650Ti SC/BOOST etc models are about twice the price of what you can find a 560Ti for, and many of those are the SC 560Ti’s. So yes, the 560Ti beats the 650 really bad in everyway and also beats the 650Ti BOOST models.
Then I can pose to you that then OP would have to buy a more powerful powersupply unit to support the GPU, if OP needs to buy one anyway. I think he should just get the most without spending as much as possible and just get a 650 or a 650TI and a power supply if needed.
So no, your PC is fine, it’s just the game that has issues.
Basically this. Garbage optimized GW2 engine

Guild wars 2 favors intel processors for their superior single threaded performance. To get any similar performance, you’d have to have a monstrously overclocked AMD processor I’m afraid. I got a 4.2 GHz AMD 8 core and it just chugs along as best as it can but intel i5 processors do a lot better. If you’re able to, I’d see about some overclocking on that processor. If not, I’m not sure what you could do.
It is just as cute as that one

No, no no, no no no… no. No. No, NO, NO NO… NO! NO NO! OH GOD NO SO MUCH ADORABLE OH GOD WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME
love that picture.
How am I going to play Raining Blood if I never get sharps?!
Improvise
Wait a month for the Y510P if you can afford it. The difference that I can see is the processor being current gen on it where as the less expensive is a dual core from previous generation. the GT 750m is newer and likely performs better.
There’s hardly any sharps and flats. The 0 key that was up octave on the bell and horn is now exit transform instead of up octave. 9 controls the octave level.
FYI, you can still get the kites, they come back. And the only thing that counts is opening the 2 bags from the kites, not the kites themselves.
I’m quite aware of this. but it’s still annoying to go through so much garbage only to watch someone else steal it.
It’ll do high graphics settings. Be sure to check that your power supply unit will be able to outpit the needed power for the new GPU.
I got nothing doing stuff on my end, my network is just fine, nothing is taking up any bandwidth of any sort and trying to kill my game. Not even Steam today! \o/
so ANet, I’m getting tired of this lag finally :U
I could say stuff that everyone and their dog has already said but you know the story. So hop to it and fix this please it would be muuuuuuuuuuch appreciated. It’s hard to play the game when I hit an attack function and watch it activate 3 seconds later.
And I just turned this game off because I watched and sat there for 20 seconds as someone ran up and took the kite for the living story achievement. This is upsetting.

Yeah that’s what I’m looking for, consistency in controls
My problem with the flute is explained in a thread I posted
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Flute-key-controls/first#post2428936
I’ve dropped into Queensdale twice in the past couple of days to charge some quartz crystals, and I’ve been disappointed by what I’ve seen. A zerg of players have been running a circuit of champions for exp/karma/loot/monthly achievements/whatever. That they’ve turned my favorite zone into an mindless assembly-line grind isn’t what bothers me, it’s how they’re treating other players who don’t know or don’t care to follow their champion-killing routine.
Both times I stopped in I saw members of the zerg shouting down, brow-beating, and being needlessly rude to those who did anything to interrupt their circuit. They’re acting as if they own the zone and anyone who doesn’t follow their rules isn’t welcome. It’s not something I expected from what has generally been a very friendly and helpful community.
Hopefully what I’ve seen has been an anomaly. If not…well, unfortunately there’s not much I can do about it other than voice my displeasure in-game and here on the forums.
What server is it so I know who to not res?
Gonna bump this once. If no one replies then I’ll let it die
Firstly I’d like to say that I love the flute and all that. It sounds nice but I have just one issue with it.
The controls for the up and down octave keys. Very confusing after having gotten used to the bell and the marriner’s horn.
I think that the flute’s up octave and down octave keys should be the same as the Marriner’s Horn and the Choir Bell because then it’d be easier to use for people who are so used to the old setup. and probably the people who have timed macro keys to play songs they took the time to make would be able to listen to it without it cutting out at the #0 slot function which is exit instrument XD
Buuuuuuuuut yes the flute is fantastic.
That laptop will run the game smoothly on medium to between medium and high on a 1080p resolution. If the laptop’s screen res were 1366×768, I wouldn’t doubt that it could max it with around 30-40 fps enjoyably. Although I’d expect that thing to haul kitty on medium for the 1920×1080. Tweak some settings as well to get the best settings for you. This laptop will do well.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with AMD 3D
stop it okay stop it just stop it ow it’s too adorable stop it
Oh. Probably. If there’s some super exclusive Nvidia garbage then AMD cards can’t do it so I don’t see why AMD cards couldn’t do the 3D thing.
if you’re talking about just using a graphics card at all, AMD will work.
Try my Corsair h80 fans they sound like jet engine on max RPM.
Corsair H100 here. After 50 degrees, it sounds GLORIOUS
No this is pretty normal. Like, trust me.
my reaction: complaining about free stuff. ????
Defragging an SSD reduces it’s lifespan, which is why it’s not recommended.
I recall the old generation of SSDs coming with that qwerk. SSDs are getting better for that now so far as I’ve learned.
You don’t read many SSD articles do you. The problem for consumer grade SSDs has actually been getting worse not better. As flash memory has been getting denser, the number of write cycles have been going down. It’s not a “quirk”.
Flash have a limited number of write cycles. MLC flash used in SSDs have only 2-3K number of write cycles. Now manufacturers use of “wear leveling”, over provisioning and internal data compression to delay the inevitable as long as possible.
So why aggravate this limitation when you don’t have to.
I understand defragging is not recommended and I also shared this tip to some friends but in my case, doing the defrag and optimize allowed me to regain almost 10 GB of space that was honestly wasted for no reason whatsoever. This amount of space started getting eaten up right as soon as I finished installing Guild Wars 2 and playing it so even though defrag is bad for an SSD, I’m still glad I did it this one time and regained that space and speed might I add.
I used to have an old junk motherboard that one of the fan outlets would run any fan at max RPM. So because of the case, it was a 120mm fan at 2200 RPM. holy baby buttery jesus was it loud. I’m sure my 5770 loved it though at the time.
Defragging will not give you a 50fps boost
Cleaning dust will not give you a 50fps boostTrust me, I’ve jumped those hoops. I’ve run a lot of tests – Unigine, Speccy, CPU-z, GPU temp, CPU temp – to name but a few. I’ve had my PC cleaned- of dust, malware, everything.
There was a patch on 02/07/13 that throttled my FPS something chronic. That is the culprit. If it isn’t, I’ll happily eat my CPU fan.
Cleaning dust that was so bad to the point where it made the heat climb can probably help things.
and for the record, 50 FPS increase from either of those too is also preposterous to consider possible… Let’s change that to say 10-20 from cleaning a REALLY BAD mess… such as what OP did. :F
(I got 3-4 fps in some places after defragging too.)
(edited by Avelos.6798)
the only thing I can recommend is check anti-aliasing options to make sure they are off.
Go play RuneScape and then tell me if Guild Wars 2 combat is boring.
this computer is running, yes? and if it is, did you make sure that none of the settings are being overridden to have higher performance?
Well you could do something productive and submit a support ticket directly to them, which by the way they respond quick to, and give all of the necessary information such as the things you provided and any thing else you deem noteworthy instead of raging away at space on the tech support forums?
And besides, it’s not going to be ‘perfect’ all the time. Problems are going to happen and players are going to be effected and it’s going to be fixed either way.

chill out dude. It doesn’t happen often anyway so far in my experience. I have garbage internet and it plays fine.
A note to those who have Solid State Drives, never defrag them.
Actually I defragged my SSD with a different defragger that also optimized it. It moved all of the defragged data back into one area of the SSD so it’s not all over the place and I not only regained 8.5 GB of space back since I installed GW2, but my startup time was also cut in half. I think that /may/ be reason to believe that some types of defrag can help it.
Here’s mine up by the Bank in Black Gate Lion’s Arch
I don’t know if you can see the other 2 pictures but I attached three. It’s being funny for me.

Ah, the old “clean your heatsink” fix. Which reminds me it’s been a year, need to buy some can air.
Oh and when you do use can air, immobilize your fans before using the air. Turning them into pinwheels may seem fun but really isn’t good for them. Finger or coffee stirrer works.
I use a high pressure air tank with needle tip air nozzle from a high capacity air compressor at I think it’s like 10-20 PSI. I don’t keep my fans immobilized but the pressure is high enough that I just wave it across and it goes. For my watercooler I stick it between the blades and go in circles.
