Wow, thanks for really informative answers!
Two buddies of mine have third generation i3 and i5 mobile processors with Intel HD 4000. They play at medium with good frame rates.
Core i3 with HD4000 integrated?
These are minimum requirements. My PC also meets minimum requirements (core 2 duo, nvidia GTS450, 2GB ram) but GW2 runs just terribly (35fps max, 15-20 lion’s arch, unplayable in WvW and bigger events).
My next question is if it is possible to play games on these laptops on external monitors? I have fullHD monitor from my PC. Do you think amd hd7670 is able to run games in this resolution?
Yeah, Core i3 with HD4000 integrated. They’re pretty good little chips.
As for the Full HD monitor on the AMD Radeon HD 7670m, being that it’s not a… very high end mobile card, I’d say you would be able to play with tweaked settings around medium to medium high on a full HD if talking 1920×1080. Though I wouldn’t go ahead and believe it’ll play smooth on high but you never know. A smooth 30 FPS is great. A choppy one is bad so we can only hope that a smooth 30 FPs could be achieved between medium and high. Reflections and shadows hit the hardest in my experience so turning those down should give some slack. Now on 1366×768, I’d try maxing it personally and then adjusting accordingly.
As for the desktop with core 2 duo and GTS450, I think where the laptop will do better is the processor having a much better updated architecture. This game practically sings on the Core i series. i5 and i7 have it the best. And considering you’re looking at an i5 3210m laptop, I don’t expect it to have issues. It may even do a bit better than the desktop, since it’s a CPU heavy game.
Good- I’ll be doing this tomorrow for a bit!
i5 3210m , 4gb ram, amd hd 7670m 2gb.
This will play Guild Wars 2 on high.
Two buddies of mine have third generation i3 and i5 mobile processors with Intel HD 4000. They play at medium with good frame rates. The 7670m 2 GB is a very good mainstream laptop card I believe and I think it’ll handle GW2 very well
Also for the record, the GT 630m would be fairly worse than the HD 7670m. Here is why: The GT 540m Nvidia Geforce card can run this game at medium fairly well.
Video of the game running on an i5 480 and GT540m notebook:
The GT540m is a rebranded GT435m. the GT630m is a rebranded GT540m which is actually a GT435m. It’s just not really updated performance wise. Also keep in mind that the GT435m/540m/630m do not really benefit from 2GB of dedicated memory but maybe in some other places it does.
I would take the AMD Radeon HD 7670m over the 630 if I were you but that is me. I hope this helps, OP!

I had this very problem earlier… Had it done it three times I would have made a forum thread too but it didn’t so I continued along my merry way but still. It was annoying.
I’ve had more success rifling through the various forum pages AND using Google (go kitten figure) to find my topics. It works better than this shotty (yes, I mean SHOTTY and not ‘kitten’ ) search tool.
I’m sorry Anet, it really is. It’s about the worst forum search tool I’ve ever used.
Okay I’ve read this a few places and was told by a friend that I could literally cut and paste Guild Wars 2 from one directory to another and be able to play it easily from say, the desktop shortcut or Steam shortcut (assuming I fixed the shortcut’s target)
Can I do this and not expect issues? I need to confirm dees.
I However good thing to pull attention, it’ll provoke an official a.net response
I wouldn’t hold your breath if I were you
3 alts can have 1 each, simple really….
Okay lemme try this again.
I only want one. I don’t want to toss em so I am asking for an alternative. Mmkay?
Alternative: Delete one. :B Only alternative there is unless the mystic toilet can make something from it.
I had recently upgraded to windows 8 and bought guild wars 2. The first time I started up the game I had 20 fps and this seemed unrealistic to me for my PC specs.
I looked into this by first trying to run another game, called TERA. This game ran at 20 fps to.
I automatically assumed it was the operating system as I had been able to run TERA at 150fps on windows 7.
This being said. I reverted. 40 fps. Wow double my fps! (*not remotely impressive). Just what the kitten is happening I thought.
Well I’ve downloaded at least 300gb since I last ran tera so let’s start there. I wiped 300 gb of data from my computer and all my pc now had on it was guild wars 2, WoW, and TERA.
Then I defragmented like any smart person would do.
And then I wiped free space.
60 fps. I can run guild wars 2 smoothly but it still seems a little bit borderline.
NO PROBLEM TIME TO OPEN UP MY DESKTOP
~Holy jesus kittenting christ what the hell is inside my computer.
I kitten you not I took a vacuum and just vacuumed my entire computer. There was so much dust on my cpu fan that it didn’t have space to move. I HAD NO COOLING SYSTEM.
So now i had 65-70 fps on high settings! It looked so smooth and beautiful. BUT IM NOT SATISFIED.
TIME TO SPEND MONEY
I went to Canada Computers and bought myself an h80i and after spending 5 hours trying to figure out (yes actually 5 hours) how to get it to work, I INSTALLED IT!
I am now running the game at 80fps consistently never dropping below 60.
With what specs you ask? GARBAGE SPECS!
8gb of RAM (3.5 usable)
Intel Core i7 CPU 930 2.8GHz 2.79 GHz
GTX 470 Nvidia Graphics Card
Piece of kitten 6 year old HDDThat’s my story and I hope it helped someone out there, good luck fixing your FPS!
And this is proof that you don’t need GODLY specs to play this game enjoyably. Maintain your comp performance!
This got me to give defrag a try. I haven’t really done it since I copied everything to a new hard drive so why not do it now? AND HOLY COW IT IS HELLA FRAGGED. Okay, not SO much fragged but it is. Still.

By the way OP! I got a friend who uses the same specs but with 12 GB of RAM and GTX 480s. He get’s wicked FPS and his processor is also watercooled with I think an H60. His CPU is also overclocked to 4 GHz and last he told me he was rocking like 140-160 fps in Ebonhawke with a single 480. Your system’s got a lot of potential!

triggered for me on Black Gate. I’m sure it did anyway. Not really interested in logging back in and checking right now though.
I have this mobo:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6X58DE/
I’m currently running a Radeon 5970 GPU. Can the above take a 7990 or a Titan and, if so, could I see a significant FPS increase?
Yes it will run those cards. Guild wars 2 isn’t really a fan of Crossfire but if you plan on getting the 7990 for other games as well then by all means, go for it. The Titan I believe is just slightly less powerful than the 7990 but is a single GPU so it wouldn’t be held back by what dual GPUs have such as not supported in every game, SLI and Crossfire.
GW2 performs better on Nvidia cards
They run the same.
Though if you do get a new card, I want your 5970. ( ‘-’)
I just read some of what this forum post has said in other people’s messages .Turning off shadows really worked wonders for my FPS in lion’s arch. ._.
As for you OP, I’m not sure what could be crippling your system. I only know that so far it’s just single threaded performance for us AMD users that don’t see as good of performance
Nope nope I completely disagree with topic title now. This game completely SUCKS!
It favors amazing internet connections. How do I know this? I lag out the poodle because of terrible internet in this minigame.
A couple of tips if you are looking to get the first place :
1) When you start the race, pick up every upgrades available, you will loose a couple of seconds but you will also get Aspect of mastery #4 wich will give you a considerable speed bonus when you use Ride of the sun #2.
2) Always favour Orange cristals over Blue cristals, even if it meens loosing a couple of seconds. You will get every second you lost back later when you catch up people with swiftness and vigor. Orange cristals can also be found in a lot of shortcuts, while those offers you a faster way to get to the finish, taking them are also a bit risky, so be aware of the danger and focus.
3) Always keep a shield #6 ready, there is nothing more dangerous to jump from pads to pads and get hit by a Wind Gust #7 or a Lightning Strike #8, jumping sequences usualy have shields ready to deploy, so use it for the stability until you get to the next shield bonus ready nearby while staying safe.
4) Never follow the same route as a player in the first place, if he isn’t to far from you let someone take the second place and suffer the booby traps instead of you. Taking fake cristals will cause you to loose every utility in your disposal, wich is something you do not want.
5) If you do have the first place, keep the pressure by laying fake cristals near jump pads and narrow paths, and do not forget to use your shield whenever you are going to get hit by a lightning strike, doing so will steal the power used against you and allow you to slow down people behind you even further.
6) Use coloured cristals to your advantage, if you look around you might find some shortcuts and win a couple of precious seconds!
- Red : Increase the velocity of Ride of the Sun.
- Blue : Increase the jump heigth of your next Wind Jump.
- Purple : Remove the cooldown of your next Lightning Leap.Hope this helps!
Tried this. Was working until the game decided to lag. I actually made it to first place for once but nope, it seems the game wants to keep me from winning at all costs. So I quit.
Not at all! First it is a lagfest then on top of that you get dropped into races that have started or a winner was already done.
same here
I’ve been having nothing but problems with that game. Lag when I’m near first, or everyone’s already done when I’m in last. Or I get warped back because the game’s kittened and throws me back without reason.
I just want to get the achieves for that game and never touch it again. in my opinion, racing doesn’t work well in mmos.
Okay so I actually had a fairly decent run going. Second place, close to first.
nothing important to see here kind of thing.
then lag hit and I drop back a check point and suddenly I’m thrown a HUGE chunk of the track back right after being thrown to the one check point and near to last.
And whenever I’m near first, it’s lagging and whenever I’m somewhere near last the other guys area already done.
(yes so far I hate this minigame, but I’m not complaining about it here but YES I did have lag.) I checked that there’s nothing else killing my network connection so, wut.
Okay so I tried it again. This time I really am kitten ed off about this game. I was actually in first for once and then I hit a jump pad spot and the skill REFUSES to activate! Then it DOES and I get hit with lag and don’t know what the heck is going on aaaaand well let’s just say I bailed from the game entirely because of the lag. This is stupid.

Super sampling doesn’t make a difference in FPS in my experience. But as for the new computer, you should be able to like, copy and paste the game directory over. I have a feeling it can work. If not, just install. As for what you can expect graphics wise, max it ALL. lol60FPS all the time with v-sync on. You’ll get wicked performance and playable performance in zerg vs zerg
lawl your frames are decent anyway. I’m rocking an AMD FX-8350 @ 4.2 GHz with 16 GB 1600mhz and double 7970s (single card for GW2 ’cause hates crossfire) and I drop to single digits in those kinds of zerg fights.
I’m fine with it though. To spend the kind of money I’d need to get better performance, (high end board and intel i7 4770K because I refuse to go with anything but the best in a line) would not be worth it for one game.
also for the record I see on CoreTemp widget I got installed, GW2 is bouncing around on about 4 cores. 2 usually medium high load, the other two on lower load. But mine’s probably being used waaaay differently or something so I don’t believe it’s anything special going on here.
Get an i7? Also, how do you know GW2 is not multi-threaded?
i7 won’t give any performance enhancement if the game only uses two threads or cores anyway.
:/ That’s stupid.
Thanks anet for taking away another thing I find fun :F
I’d go and check to see if anti-aliasing options are on. Sometimes they’ll cripple anything.
Graphics cards won’t make much of a difference. GTX 650 TI / AMD Radeon HD 7770/7790 and up will get like max graphics.
The game is more CPU heavy but 7970 and GTX 770 are both great. I’d personally go with a 7970. I got two of them and the are faaaaabulooouuussss
PvP in a PvP zone is not griefing.
THIS.
Will it be staying after Dragon Bash is done? ;_; I love that mini game
I haven’t found anything that said it will be but I know that Crab Toss is still around (even though that game sucks!)
butyeah, this
What do you do when people bring guns to grief players in the WVW JP? Bring bigger guns.
And then you end up with everyone griefing everyone. Except the real griefers, because they have run away by that point.
And that is what you call a party. Bring beer and popcorn, this will get messy but by gollie gee, we are gonna have fun. It’s still PVP and no one has to yield to anyone.
There’s no unspoken truce rule of any sort. It’s a PVP so don’t get mad if someone facerolls you. Get some bros and fight back.
Besides you get siege stuff at the end of the JP so firstly, why the heck would people want you to get that stuff? I’ve happily let people run on by and not get killed or kill and I’ve picked a few fights (and lost but I don’t care) but it’s a PVP area. If you can’t handle it, then that’s not for you in my opinion. But those people are certainly not griefers.
create a support ticket and add screenshots.
Sounds good. I already did that but I guess I can do it again.
no need to do it again. They will get to it when they do. When they answered the first one and then come across the second one, it will just slow everything down.

What FPS do you get on “Best Performance” settings and “Best Appearance” settings?
Probably my worst PuG story so far is having some apparent drug dealer on an AC run decide to AFK to make a sale at the part with defending the two machines in the lover’s crypt or whatever that is. Can’t remember. The Gravelings run. We wiped and instantly kicked him.
How absolutely splendid. He sounds like a troll to be honest, but you never know with some people.
Oh he probably was. None of us cared though. It went a little like this:
Fighting -> winning -> slowly falling -> overwhelmed -> dying -> wiped. No words, just kicked. Invited new party member in, kicked kitten .

I recommend checking to see that heavy anti-aliasing options found in Catalyst control Center are off and checking to make sure that the card is running at normal clocks.
If that doesn’t help then… I’m lost myself.
stop the presses! I just found a cooler that blows away every cooler you ever knew! ( unless you already knew about this one!) very expensive though -
Oh god I want that thing.
there isn’t much of a big difference between high end water coolers and air coolers,
Tell that to my Corsair H100 and Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus. Both are great but in my case, the H100 does a helluva lot better.
What render filtering to you use? Sub sampling? Native? super Sampling?
I use super sampling and have never seen this with depth blur :o
I only ever did RP on IM services with friends on things like skype and other im services and still do
I need to check out this RP stuff. I’ve been into RP’ing outside of games and it intrigues me in this game.
If you RP outside of games then you’ll love RP here. I instantly have become a fan of RP and will definitely be RPing for years to come. I just wish I knew alot about the lore so I can test the waters of lore RP and fix my character’s personality.
I should guest over to Tarnished Coast and you can teach me some of what ya know lol I’m looking at information about GW2 roleplaying.
I need to check out this RP stuff. I’ve been into RP’ing outside of games and it intrigues me in this game.
Right now people just use them to grief players !
how’s that a.net created this griefing disease and I’m willing to pay them to get rid of it.Oh, the irony !
That’s funny because no one spams it on the server I’m on anymore. not that I can see. The people complaining doesn’t even come close to the people enjoying the fun it brings.
Personally I don’t see why people are crying over the animation.
They can’t be any worse than the regular tools.
HELLO, UNLIMITED USAGE.
’Nuff said.
(edited by Avelos.6798)
Keeping the GTX 580, You should see very good FPS with this.
although the chipset on the board might do better as a Z87 but that’s my thoughts.
Overall I think it will be good.
Well this is true but one does not need to go to an extreme like an i7 for GW2. I’d rather go with an i5 like 3570 or the 3570K model myself assuming I did not already have the FX-8350.
Personally I would not bother spending the kind of money you would have to spend to get a computer to run Zerg Vs. Zerg at 60+ FPS. I’ve read forum posts of people having 6 core intel processors with 16 GB RAM and 2 graphics cards (or a GTX 690 or similar) having oh I dunno, 50 FPS in huge zerg battles.
I dunno about you but I think that about sums it all up. XD
Nah nah it’ll work lawl and you’re welcome
General rule:
Intel for gaming
AMD for multitasking programs
I feel that this is biased.
Intel is only somewhat better than AMD for some games in my experience.
They both have great game performance.
For Guild Wars 2 though, Intel. (I use an AMD FX-8350) the single threaded performance is what this game relies on and Intel has it better than AMD right now.
Just copy paste it over. Or cut and paste. It will work because the local game content is only like 3 files anyway.
Word of note to people considering this axe, it is by far the most lacklustre of the trio. The model itself is very nice however the animation is incredibly underwhelming. I suggest anyone debating whether to buy it or not go find a video of it being used somewhere and check it first, even if you are a person like me who doesn’t like to spoil the surprise. It is much worse than even the Sickle.
Also for the record I doubt many people will care if the animation is terrible to start with because it’s the fact it’s unlimited that people will really buy it aside from the fact it looks cool. ANY animation looks better than the original animation. the molten firepic is still on the original animation, and people were kitten ing themselves like excited dogs over it! XD Besides, if the animation SUCKS, it will be fixed. Like the Unlimited harvesting sickle. That animation got fixed TWICE. And now it looks epic. Who says the same thing won’t happen to the Axe?
Yeah I saw it on the gem store last night and bought it immediately. All is good now
