Ha. This must be easy for a pianist. I am not one and I have troubles coordinating 8 fingers at the same time. Perfect score? For me same insanity as guitar hero perfect play on hardest mode.

The new event areas are all gorgeous and really cool, but are way way too fast for my reflexes. I can’t get past the snowflakes after 30 minutes, because by the time I get there, somebody’s already activated them and they melt under me.

Is there a bunny slope for us ‘more casual’ players? I’m on vacation, I want to take it easy, not be stressed by a jumping puzzle that’s harsher than I can handle. I know there’s some crazy-twitch players out there who can do this no sweat, but I’m not one of those. I’d like to enjoy the same content, at my own pace. Not every person runs a marathon to be first, some just enjoy running.

You dont need to complete JP to get the meta achievement. If JP is not your thing I can understand that. I wont call you noob or anything like that. Some people are just better or worse at certain things. That being said, I dont understand why ANet would need to nerf something as the optional JP which is a form of a challenge. Games are about challenge. Should every player around the world be able to complete every video game on the hardest setting? Why?

Use mouse with both buttons pressed to run and just sway your mouse to run into the right direction. It is really easy once you get a hold of this. At least I think so.

Nearly 4 hours trying the JP ... failed

I did it on my first try and I am far from “master jumper”. There are tons of gamers better than me. It took me around 30 minutes to complete the Mad King one, died several times there. Maybe you are doing something wrong, focusing on the wrong aspect of it. it is really not that hard. Keep trying and you will do it. And if not… well… maybe JP are just not for some people. Its normal. There are also things in some games which I simply cant do becouse its too hard for me. Should I whine about it? Why? Games are supposed to bring some challenge.

It took me around 30 minutes to complete the Mad King jumping puzzle, maybe a little bit more. I failed several times. I did the wintersday jumping puzzle on my FIRST try ever. I never seen that JP before. So maybe I was lucky? Then I came back there again with a friend, failed on my 2nd attempt (fell at boxes stairs) and then completed again on 3rd try. 3 attempts, completed 2 times. Just wanted to place my example against the “even worse than the Clocktower” opinion. Seriously, there are far harder JP in this game. There are really no tricky spots in this one. Speed is a key to everything.

What's wrong with vertical progression?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nothing is, and as this game flounders and WoW marches on people I think are seeing that vertical progression is still the way to go

Why would we need ANOTHER direct clone of WoW? Every single game that tried to replicate them was a failure (in terms of how many people are playing it, not quality). GW2 should stay away from trying to combat WoW head-on. Compared to other MMO releases from previous years, GW2 is actually not doing that bad in terms of game activity. Does activity falls? Yes it does. Same as every other game minus pre-WotLK WoW. Even WoW activity in Pandaria drops down hard after initial weeks of new expansion hype. If you really want to have a nice gear threadmill, by all means, go and play WoW. I know I would. But I want to play GW2 becouse I want to AVOID the gear threadmill. It is also why I hope they will limit their ideas with the new ascended gear.

Going to play other games because this ones end game is AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!(not really there)
SUPER REPETITIVE GAME PLAY!
-4 wep skills and 5 long cd spells super fun hour after hour?

Becouse other MMO are so much better? You may have 30 buttons on your action bars but your raiding rotation will only use few. Hell, Arcane Mages from Cataclysm anyone?

-No progression who needs it?

Well, depends what kind of progression. Gear? Speaking for myself, I dont need it.

-GRINDS hell ya!!!!

If non mandatory, grind is 100% fine.

-no end, who needs it.

There is an end in GW2. Just very distant one. Unlike gear progression based MMO-s which do not have an end until developers decides to stop supporting it with new patches.

-so many bad design decisions….ya

There are some, true. So are in every other game. How many are good and how many are bad is subject to opinion and discussion.

Did people not learn from mistakes made with SW:ToR and Diablo 3? I mean Trion pumps out quality stuff for Rift so fast why cant people just take after them?

Pumping out content fast is not the final solution. I have to give it to Trion that they are doing a good job but where are the Rift subs numbers at? Insignificant. Rift tried to beat WoW and it failed. Same as every other game that will try to beat WoW on its own turf. It wont work. Even if the game will be better, many people will still stick to WoW becouse of habit and herd mentality. WoW is an anomaly which launched with almost perfect set of circumstances. Nothing prepared will beat it head on even if subjectively it will be better. It will take another anomaly and that is something you cant plan or predict. IMO GW2 should try to secure a niche on the market and capitalize on it rather than try to wrestle with WoW by trying to “steal” the WoW crowd. The WoW crowd mostly wont even care. ANet IMO should stop trying to cater to WoW-whiners who demand raids, gear progression and such. Becouse if they try to do it, people will just come to conclusion that WoW does it better. Again, keep true to your own manifesto and maybe you will find enough people willing to stick with you. I am a GW2 active player and I plan to stay as such (in case someone will try to brand me a hater).

Right now. over 1h sitting in LA and spaming F5 on gw2lfg. Weekend evening prime time. Cant find the group. Please AN, do something about this. I dont see FotM as a failure but this whole level community split is against core values of your manifesto.

FotM goes against A-Net's philosophy.

-Community gating mechanic (fractal levels)

This bothers me the most. Arena said that they are resigning from holy trinity model so that it will be easier to create groups and play together without looking for x tanks and y healers. And it worked, making groups for dungeons was easy even without a proper LFG tool. And now? Sitting in LA forever and typing LFG/LFM for the one specific fractal level which I need for progress. It will only get worse once more people unlock more levels.

I really hope your tech can backtrack who did how many dailies and monthlies (but I think the current issue is more than that) if that is what is missing. If not, I think everyone should be automatically awarded with points as if they completed all dailies and monthlies prior to today’s patch. And really, I hope this gets fixed. Some people do not care about achievements. Some people, like me, cares about them a lot.

Awe.1096

To be fair I have to admit that backstab on its own doesnt sound so much OP. Neither do most other thief abilities out there. The problem is with how certain several abilities work well together. Thief is probably best “synergized” class atm. Every class gets some strong moves. But the package comparison is definitely on thieves side, even if used mostly as a pubstomping build. Stealth alone is probably the largest culrpit that ties all this together. The class itself would need a larger rebalance IMO. And as for people saying that players having problems with thieves are noobs etc. Well, in such case it is funny how I am the huge noob only when faced against a thief. Why I feel that I have things under control when I fight against seven different classes (even if I loose against them) and vs. thief my current plan is usually “stay away as far as possible and dont engage to not get his attention”?

Bad players get Good players Nerfed in MMORPGs

Awe.1096

What is your definition of “bad”? Where is the threshold where once starts or stop to be “bad”?

In my opinion there is an issue with a fallacy that is often used to justify badly tuned classes in MMO games. The fact that something is “balanced” at the very cutting edge of player population does not make everything automatically fine. Supposedly if lets say Thiefs are balanced at the e-sport level of gameplay, it does not mean that what happens for 95% of players population is irrelevant. Pubstomping classes should not exist in any MMO which wants to aspire to be called balanced.

So pretty much you are saying that everyone should be sporting a full bunker build from the sole reason that there thieves in this game? My playstyle is an extremely careful approach. I play a ranged class and to be honest I die rarely becouse I tend to avoid putting myself in the harms way. Of course this also means less effective offense since I am not going to risk myself into chasing someone when I do not feel confident about it. Some can call this a chicken playstyle, I say better safe than sorry. In sPvP I tend to die from different things becouse area is very confined and sometimes its just either you or them. But for example in WvW I would say that around 90% of all my deaths is when I get jumped by the thief. The only scenario when, if executed properly by a thief, a have absolutely no response to. People telling me to L2P when I just get wtfstomped in 2 seconds by an unknown entity which appears out from stealth when I am already either dead or lingering at 10% are just thief players who are affraid that ANet will nerf their ability to dominate other people and feel as superior human beings becouse of that.

People saying that 100B warrior can do similar or even greater damage in shorter time frame are right. However when I allow myself to be stunned and 100B comboed by a warrior it is my own kitten fault. I got outplayed. It happened to me few times that I died in 1 second from warrior. But every time this happened it was either me not paying attention to my surroundings or me loosing a cat and mouse game with a warrior. Most of the times it is evident that a warrior is after me and he wants to charge/bull rush me. I have a visual warning, it is up to me to use my cooldowns and dodges properly and to keep my distance or just simple dodge the BR when I see it coming. How many times I died to thieves backstabbing me from stealth? I cant even count. Most of the times by the time I realize what is going on I am already dead or lingering at 10% HP (gogo heartseeker spam). If I will play really well and the warrior is not very bright, the warrior will not even touch me. Against even a thief facerolling his keyboard my best case scenario is that I will survive with 10% HP blowing all my defensive cooldowns and thanking God that the thief was too scared to chase me further. Balance!

Rogues were and are very competetive and effective class in all formats of WoW PvP

And became a laughing stock in PvE that no one wanted to carry thanks to all of the PvP-centric nerfs.

I am sorry? WHAT? When? Perhaps at some short time spans between some badly tuned patches (pretty much every class had those moments). Rogues were highest DPS class for the majority of Vanilla WoW, they started to be outshined by warriors in AQ40 and Naxxramas due to the fact that warriors scaled better with gear. Later in TBC+ rogues joined the usual Blizzard rollercoaster with DPS balance where every patch some class was better from others due to skills changes and gear scaling – in other words, they were in line with all other classes in term of PvE.

People claiming how thief/rogue nerfs in other games destroyed said classes are in denial. Yes, in most MMO there were plenty of nerfs for those classes. There is a reason for this and that is stealth+high burst damage is OP. Simple as that. Rogues in early vanilla WoW were OP as hell and yes they were nerfed. Did this made them a bad class? In no way! Rogues were and are very competetive and effective class in all formats of WoW PvP. Just not anymore at “lol I own you” broken level. In GW2 Thief after nerfs will be a good and viable class as well and hopefully not OP anymore.

OK. Pure numbers. WvW. I am a lv80 engineer. 1718 toughness (ok, I understand that is nearly close to a bunker build but its hardly a glass cannon as well in WvW where you have different stats than in sPvP). Backstabbed from stealthed thief for 15,991. I have 19560 HP. I stared at the log for one minute with an urge to smash my monitor. Yes I mad. Can someone please tell me HOW THE **** this is “fine” and “balanced” and how much I need to L2P? I am waiting.

Edit: Forgot to add that he followed this with Cloak and Dagger for 6091, so yes, my entire HP vanished in 1 second.

Aurora felt quite strong in September. Then something happened around two weeks ago. I guess some WvW guilds jumped on the bandwagon and transfered to top ranked servers and they were followed by sheep. Right now you can get into EB in prime time without queue! And its not like its just people playing less overall since we do get the outmanned buff quite frequently. I mean, being outmanned at 8 PM on the EB just speaks for itself. I also dont see any of the good active commanders from September. I guess they transfered as well. During the night its just total shame. I went EB once around 3 AM. We had like 10 people chilling AFK at spawn point and that was all. Anyway, I dont plan to leave. If the ship is sinking, only rats jumps away first. Even if we will fall to the very last place in the table, perhaps it will be possible to build something from there. It is just shame how free transfers are affecting some servers WvW communities. I really hope AN will turn this thing off asap. And I mean like NOW.

GW2 network code error handling

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Awe.1096

Awe.1096

To be honest I have some issues with how GW2 code handles short network errors. To give an example, lets say that once in a while you have a very short burst of packet loss. Lets say it lasts only for 10 seconds or so and you get a 5% packet loss and then everything gets back to normal. In most on-line games I remember this results in a brief state where everything “lags”, or everything gets frozen but then unlocks itself and operates as it should. Sometimes you get a DC. In case of GW2 however, it will never DC you unless your Internet connection died for good. Otherwise, if the game will encounter some even small packet loss for a very brief amount of time, it sort of glitches. You still see everything around you moving as it should, players included. You can still run around the world normally. But all your abilities on the action bar becomes locked for good. You cant fire any skill, you cant interact with anything. The only way to remove this glitched state is to relog. This is very painful in case of WvW. So if from some reason my routing between home and GW2 server encounters a small few percent packet loss for the merely few seconds, the network code crashes and I need to relog. Back to over an hour queue to WvW most likely. I believe this should be looked at and some error handling code added to allow the client to deal with such things in better fashion.

I can agree with increasing token drops and improving the game for “majority of the players” as long as the ceiling remains high. You can and should improve the perspectives for majority of gamers but there also should be a very high and non-obligatory end line, same as in GW1. In other words, in any MMO there always should be this “insane grind” option for people who really enjoy spending their time with this particular game and can do it. A nice little thing for those biggest fanboys out there.
