lol, why use a shield for protection boon? It lasts 5 secs and has a 30 sec cd. Its easier, more effective to just use hammer skill 1. Its not a cone, it has no cd, it has a large radius if you take the trait that increase symbol size. There really is no real reason to take the shield AT ALL. Not even for weapon swap.

Wave of Wrath is good for killing volatile blossoms in Twilight Arbor. Other than that…..its bad.
Staff would be great if skills 1 and 2 were better. Currently the weapon is being held by skill 3, 4 and 5. All fantastic skills.

So when dominance is shown in Basketball or Football, we can all assume its exploits or the sport is broken?
Talent shows.
Nah its the equivalent of a football team scoring touch downs when the opposing team only has two players. Then calling yourself the champ.

I did TA once yesterday and got 15 deadly blossoms. Everyone else got 60.
Tried it again today and everyone got 60 and again I got 15 deadly blossoms.

What Casia said.
No one I read was complaining about the double team. What I did see were posts from SBI/ET/JQ/Random Guy stating the “downfall of HoD” after 1.5 days of a 7 day battle, and HoD players coming to say why they were down.
They were down because they were getting rocked? And night time capping wasn’t very effective over the weekend? Yes, I know so.
This forum post is proof that whatever we’re doing is worth it.
The proof is in the shift of the score from the weekend to the weekday. I won’t go further because all that will happen is some HoD player will come to try to justify why it was that way. When the answer is quite obvious.
Its not a insult to HoD per say, I’m not thinking HoD is full of people who can play 24/7. That would be a lie, its that HoD is full of people on a entirely different time zone than NA players. Can’t blame them because its not their fault. However, its wrong to say that HoD is #1 or sweeping. When clearly that is not the case.

Rabinu,
HoD was behind from the time the match restart happened until after the weekend was over. Do you think that is no coincidence?
I’m not saying HoD is full of bad players, rather HoD has a ally no one else has. Sleep.
While everyone is sleeping they capture points. When everyone wakes up, not only do they have to deal with taking everything back that they worked hard for and had no way to defend. But they have to deal with a now buffed HoD.
I suppose its working as intended, but working as intended doesn’t mean its working well. The system is clearly flawed. If there was no night time pvp, chances are that HoD would still be in 3rd place.
And SB and ET aren’t working together, you are just using that as a excuse.

Fact is WvW is 24×7. If your server is weak during certain periods of time then do something about it instead of complaining.
Yea let us stay up 24/7 negating: Friends, Family, Life so we can pvp and hold points in wvw.

Heres some screen shots taken during last nights primetime, Please note the time stamps on my minimap….. it clearly shows a massive offensive by BOTH ET and SBI on HoD’s door step at garrison…. BOTH servers working to take the garrison which they didn’t even after HOURS of attacking.
You realize that if 2 forces are attacking the same keep, they not only have to defeat the defenders for control of the keep but also fight the opposing side for control.
I daresay it’s harder to take the garrison in a 3 way fight than trying to assault it 1v1.
I was going to say the same thing. Clearly in this screenshot it enforces that fact: http://imageshack.us/a/img100/3343/gw074c.jpg
ET is attacking SBI from the walls. They aren’t working together, so yeah its a three way battle. Sounds like that’s how the game should be, so what is the complaint?

This should show you that HoD only makes progress when everyone else is sleeping. I agree with Rodarin, in terms of the best HoD probably is 4th or 5th. I actually felt ET was better in terms of skill, HoD not so much.
Hmm? 1 match out of the whole month since release that HoD has not led and suddenly we are not “skillful”? Sure.. I guess.. xD
Where did I say anything about leading? This is your poor interpretation of what I’ve said.
Since HoD are night time warriors their ranking during the hours when others are sleeping means absolutely nothing, they aren’t fighting against anyone.. In regards to what I said, when I said skillful I mean pvp skill. From the fights I’ve had since this round started, ET has put up way better fights with similar numbers. Were as HoD gets rolled when they have greater numbers.

lol@Kousei,
There is always a player like him/her who shows up and proclaims everything is fine and pulls out the l2p card since you know, he/she is the super player who knows what they are doing. And that a mmo is so complex it requires extensive training similar to a advanced college level mathmatics.
Here is the deal:
Everything shield skill #4 does, Hammer combo does better, with more damage, healings allies and yourself if you spec for it and with no cd.
The shield skills are absolutely horrible. If I were to change them, I’d make shield of judgement exactly like shield of judgement in gw1:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shield_of_Judgment
A boon that lasts for several seconds, anyone who attacks you or allies is knocked down for a couple seconds and is set on fire.
Shield of Absorption would probably be better if it worked similar to the original as well:

The idea that we have no snare or gap closers is completely false.
- Leap of Faith
- Binding Blade
- Mighty Blow
- Zealot’s Embrace
- Ring of Warding
- Line of Warding
- Flashing Blade
- Chains of Light
- Bane Signet
- Signet of Wrath
- Hammer of Wisdom
Guardian doesn’t have snare….unless you count glacial heart.
Gap closers mean nothing if the target will just run off again, the same for immobilization effects and knockdowns. They don’t last long enough for one to reach the target and fight them. However they are great for assisting other ranged players…..
Its bizarre that the most melee oriented class has no consistent snare.

Guardian elites are garbage. Two of them are better for other players than it is for yourself and one doesn’t feel like a elite at all (renewed focus). Its disappointing that elites are not as they were in gw1. In gw1 they were the corner stone of one’s build.
Windows 10
I really do not understand why there are players against what the OP is stating, he is actually correct. There is no justification having renewed focus as a elite. Perhaps it would be if virtues were a lot better but right now they feel sub par.
If virtues were enhanced in some way then I believe renewed focus would look more attractive. But as it stands now, using all of your focuses and using renewed focus does absolutely nothing for gameplay. In fact, it probably makes things worse since you are forced to be self rooted.

Greetings Anet,
I would like to suggest increasing the max party size from 5 to at least 8 for wvw. I’m not sure if others have had the same issue but, due to the popularity and size of wvw, I have a lot of friends playing together at once. However, due to the party size limitation there are usually players who end up following behind the group and eventually getting lost, since they aren’t in group.
If a party size increase isn’t on the table then I suggest:
Guild members have their own uniquely colored dots on the mini map. That way even if you can’t party with them, you can at least see were they are.

Drake,
I think its your reading comprehension that needs work, not my post. I also find it absolutely comical how you even go on to explain what a dedicated healer is to me. As if I didn’t know that.
You have a flaw in your observation, healing isn’t a defensive stat its supportive. Defensive would be a skill or stat that helps you mitigate damage in some form. Healing does not do that. Block is defensive, Protection boon is defensive, Weakness is defensive, Toughness is defensive and Vitality is defensive. All of those skills either negate damage entirely or allow you to mitigate it in some form.
Healing does not do this at all, so regardless of your perspective that healing is defensive, it makes no sense. Since even if it scaled very high it would not save you from blows that could potentially kill you in a few hits quickly.
Another mistake you have made is putting healing power on par with toughness and vitality, that makes no sense neither since neither toughness nor vitality affect skills. If anything healing power would be compared to a stat like crit damage, which needs another stat in order for it to be effective. But on its own the value is much less.
Healing power becomes more valuable with the higher mitigation or ways to negate incoming damage. Regardless, even if they changed the scaling of your self heal so that it had 2x the potency it would change nothing. If a mob kills you in one shot, having a 2x heal would do nothing since you are dead.
Windows 10
Yes Drake, its quite hard to comprehend what the word dedicated means. I’ve noticed that each reply you have wrote to me that you have made the attempt of trying to be condescending in a sly manner. Is that necessary?
Perhaps I should agree with everything you are saying, so it can confirm what you already think you know. I’m sure that would make you much happier.
Windows 10
Hammer lacks depth since skills 3, 4 and 5 are situational. That leaves players using skills 1 and 2 only.
Windows 10
I can’t quote you drake since the page appears broken.
So, you want to be ignorant and attempt to tell me what I did or did not read? Like I told you I read your post, do you understand why I mentioned up dedicated healer? Simply put, if healing power was a attractive stat on par with vit, toughness it would create them. Thus, they would in time become mandatory. You would have players who spec for burst damage, those who spec to be tank like and then you would have those who spec to heal.
But anet clearly stated they do not want a healer in this game. So what is the point of taking healing power as a stat? Tbh, I don’t even understand why it is the stat, given the way healing works in this game. I suppose its to give the player the illusion of choice. But its not really a logical stat to take.
One of the only solutions I see is for the devs to re-evaluate how much healing power is worth as a stat. So when it comes to allocating item value, healing power should not be the same value as the other stats. It should be far less.
Windows 10
Healing power is fine the way it is imo. If they made it on par with the other major stats, what would happen is players would try to become dedicated healers.
Try actually reading the post before you respond. And especially remember this:
DIFFERENT ABILITIES SCALE WITH HEALING POWER AT DIFFERENT RATES, AND CAN BE ADJUSTED INDEPENDENTLY
You are mistaken, I read your post very well. Otherwise I wouldn’t of responded. I noticed how you give examples of how heal power scales differently, but guess what? Equal does not mean the same, none of those skills are function a like. Perhaps if you added their cooldowns, casting times, how long the duration is, and how they function in general, that you your analysis would appear more conclusive.
Windows 10
thiefs are designed to be mage/ ranged user killers. thats their roll in most games. make a warrior or guardian and its a very differnt game against thiefs.
thiefs are the most fragile class and have to actually get to you to do damage. if a ranger or ele did the same damage from a distance how would that be fair?
Sounds like you are playing a different game, there is no holy trinity in gw2.
Windows 10
No they need to be removed.
Passive damage reflect have no business in any competitive game. They ruin it.
If Anet wants to keep them in, then remove confusion and change Retaliation to a 3 second Boon that reflects 80% of all incoming damage. Remove the easy access guardians have to the ability and the trait that increases the boon by 25%.
Give Retaliation an obvious animation or a shout.
There. Done. Balanced.
Someone pops retal, you stop attacking them or face death. Not this passive damage reflect.
3x Guardian
2x MesmerYou die if you do nothing. You die faster if you use your abilities and play the game.
How is this in any way good game design?
I guess you didn’t play Guild Wars 1:
Windows 10
Healing power is fine the way it is imo. If they made it on par with the other major stats, what would happen is players would try to become dedicated healers. And in many cases other groups would require them. Anet said from the beginning they wanted to do away with healers. So its perfectly reasonable why healing power isn’t as good as the other stats.
Right now no dedicated healer can exist, since healing for teammates is low. Imagine if healing power added a extra 30% healing to abilities. You would see groups asking for: “LF insert class here must have 1500 healing power”.
Windows 10
I found out what causes the Hammer- Symbol of Protection bug:
What happens is, if there are so many people around you, the protection buff may or may not be applied to you. I’m guessing there is a limit on how many people it can affect. It makes the skill feel rather clunky.
Windows 10
I played GW1 since the day it came out. And my opinion of GW2? Its totally different than the original. For the most part much better. In the beginning of GW1 lifespan, there was a ton of teamwork and fun. Remember the good times of Thunderhead Keep? Yeah lots of fun.
But a problem happened, when players moved past those missions it became hard to get a group to run them. Often times we would be missing a monk. So you could end up sitting there for many hours doing nothing. You couldn’t solo outside and on top of that going outside of a hub introduced you to a lonely world. Because it was a personal instance.
Behold, Anet releases Nightfall which story wise was a big step above Factions. They introduced heroes which solved the problem of not being able to complete missions due to lack of players. But a new problem came with it, the game became more of a single player game than a multiplayer one. Its killed interaction in the game, I went through nightfall entirely by myself and it felt rather lonely.
GW2 addresses many of those issues, in fact I’d say GW2 is closer to the direction of EOTN, which was very different from the previous three games. Dynamic events are very good, not only do they get rid of the monotonous feel of quest hubs but it encourages players to work together. And since there is no mob stealing or shared loot, it makes team work even more pleasant. I’ve played a lot of mmos in the past and never have I seen so much team work on a mass level as I have in GW2.
In that regard Anet delivered the goods. GW2 skill system is different sure, but what you don’t mention up is how GW2 has the trait system which gives passive skills which interact with your active ones. That brings a amount of depth missing in GW1. Also, how many of those 50 skills in GW1 did most people use? Not many and from Anet’s perspective it probably became a pain to balance.
Another good thing about the skill system in gw2 is weapon swapping, so theoretically you have access to a total of 15 skills instead of 8 like in GW1.
Imo GW2 pros:
1. Dynamic events
2. Team work and interaction!
3. Action based combat mechanics
4. Persistent world
5. Overall more fleshed out skill system which still retains the depth of the original
Cons:
1. No Gwen
2. No Prince Rurik

My only problem is the length of explorable dungeons. They are way too long, 3-4 hrs? That’s a large chunk of time.

I would like the Zealot’s Embrace skill to be changed into a chain. First use does what it currently does, and chain effect pulls the target to the guardian while still rooted.
That is a great idea! But it would make it too much like the GS I think.
My opinion of the hammer? Skills 3, 4 and 5 are much too situational. They need to be made all around useful instead of sometime being useful. Because of their limited uses, it makes hammer lack in depth compared to the great sword.
Windows 10
You seem to over look the fact that guardian has a variety of ways to: heal themselves, protect themselves, negate damage and remove conditions.
Guardian is my main and I know for a fact that if they had hp like a warrior they would be grossly overpowered. There health pool is fine as it is.
Windows 10
I’m not going to flame you, but I don’t feel its a good idea. Because it would make condition removers fairly useless. Consider the cooldown to most condition removers, they are relatively long. But you can put conditions on someone relatively fast.
Windows 10
If guardian had the same health as warrior, they would be so overpowered. In comparison guardian has much much more survivability than warrior. Warrior has nearly 2x the health because they do not have the amount of defensive skills as guardian does.
So guardian mitigates damage by their array of condition removals and defensive skills. Warrior mitigates damage by having a large health pool.
This thread is like asking why doesn’t warrior have the amount of condition removers and defensive skills as guardian hah.
Windows 10
Hammer swing symbol of protection doesn’t work sometime. I noticed this while doing events with a zerg. However, solo it always works.
Windows 10
Its strange how sigil of ice is better than glacial heart.
Sigl of Ice: 30% chance to cause a 2s chill on a critical hit. 10sec cd
Glacial Heart: 50% chance to cause 4s chill on critical hit: 45sec cd
I’m not sure how it warrants a 35 sec cd increase over the sigil version. Essentially its doing the exact same thing except the chances around 2×. It would make more sense if the cd was 20secs.
Windows 10
Larynx is smart, he is looking at things objectively.
To address the OP concern, toughness and defensive utility skills counter burst damage. However, most people do not take them because they have the mindset that they must deal tons of damage. Thus negating defense.
Windows 10
I’ve never heard my human female say hold the line!
Windows 10
One of my main problems is the Hammer Swing combo, for some reason the 3rd attack often doesn’t land so I don’t get the protection buff. I’m not sure why this occurs since my character isn’t moving and neither is the npc. Not only that, its very slow.
In regards to pve, hammer has limited uses. Mainly because of Zealot’s Embrace, Banish and Ring of Warding. All three are relatively useless in pve compared to the great sword skills. In pvp, its slightly better. Zealot’s Embrace is a great move for runners and helps your team catch up to them. Banish and Ring of Warding remain still have very limited uses.
Banish doesn’t really have a practical use to it. In pvp there have been rare times where I use it to push a enemy off a friendly or push them off a cliff to make them take extra damage. But other than that, I don’t see it as useful. Pve is the same, there isn’t many times were pushing a monster back helps you out. Not to mention boss monsters are immune.
Ring of Warding is interesting, because while Line of Warding is seen as a excellent skill. The hammer version is not. One of the problems imo is the cast time, its fairly long and the ring radius is fairly small. Unlike Line of Warding you can’t really position or time it to stop fleeing enemies and not to mention you need to be in melee range to use it.
What often happens is while using ring of warding, due to the long cast time and small radius the target ends up slightly out of the ring’s warding. So it ends up being wasted. In pve, ring of warding doesn’t really have a practical use.
Overall, I feel with how skills 3, 4 and 5 function forces hammer users to rely solely on the first two skills. Since they both do damage and have a more universal function. This makes hammer lose a lot of dept compared to great sword.
I know Anet probably doesn’t want to make Hammer Guardian a Hammer Warrior clone. And thats very understandable, I wouldn’t want that either. However, when you look at the Hammer Warrior skill list, its way more universal than situational. If Anet can make skills 3, 4 and 5 more universal then I feel hammer would definitely be a solid option for Guardian players.

I have a solution, when someone is in moa form increase their toughness by a insane amount. That way its only used purely for CC.
Windows 10
Too many people think Mesmers are OP, they are not and you must learn how to fight them. Here’s some tips:
-Learn the animations, you can dodge Moa.
-If phantasms are doing too much damage then kill them.
-Downed state’s fine, practice fighting against mesmers. Here’s a hint: Nine times out of ten the first downed mesmer you see isn’t the real mesmer! Shocker!
-If you’re inflicted with confusion don’t keep spamming skills like an idiot
-Don’t shoot in a feedback bubble
I’m a mesmer and usually people inexperienced with fighting mesmer’s will get destroyed so if you learn how to fight us then you should be able to hold your own, stop crying for mesmer nerfs guys
Let me make this a bit easier to understand for those who aren’t following:
1. You need to observe the mesmer and their clones individual animation to learn which one is the real one. Meanwhile mesmer doesn’t have to pay attention to other classes animations since they are either dealing damage to you or healing/condition removal themselves.
2. Mesmer has two death delaying skills while downed, one is to vanish and the other is to clone themselves. What you don’t see is that Mesmer has two different skills to prevent them from being finished off. While other classes (other than thief) have one. Unless you are a elementist who has none.
3. If you are confused don’t attack mesmer, meanwhile they will continue to attack you.
4. Not attacking the feedback bubble makes sense.
Make no mistake, I like the concept of the Mesmer class in GW2. They are real magicians now and thats definitely cool in my book. I feel clones are a definitely problem, because when a player finally gets to the real mesmer they aren’t rewarded for doing so. I’m saying, the mesmer doesn’t take big damage for revealing himself. Instead, they can tank relatively well, enough to begin to cycle through more clones. Thus bringing the player back to step 1.
There isn’t enough time between Mesmer having a no clones and having clones up. The gap is relatively low. If any class prematurely uses their skills they are punished, perhaps they will be stunned and die or they blew their condition removal, so now they have a ton of conditions on them. Mesmer loosing their phantasms prematurely doesn’t really punish them.
I’m not going to pretend I know a solution because I don’t. I just hope Anet does something reasonable that still allows Mesmers cool concept to stay the way it is.

I don’t find down state that much different than rez sig in gw1. Both can be stopped if you pay attention and interrupt the player. The only problem I have is that some down states are slightly overpowered and some underpowered.
Ele’s down state is the hands down worse, Mesmer is the best by far.
Windows 10
Its funny how people Q_Q on mesmers and thieves. Do you all really build glass cannons so thief/mes can burst you down with 1 combo? Same I can call properly builded necro as OP because its nearly unkillable even in 3v1 and still can do lot of dmg. Never seen mesmers hitting me for more than 5k crit with blurred frenzy and outside that they can do only sustained DPS which can be kited/healed. Same about thieves, not brightest idea how can you get critted for more than 7k. Or ok. If thief is total glass cannon with 14k hp and 2k armor. But then he is completly useless in fights other than 1v1 so its his weakness.
The only opinion here is that warriors need a bit love. I played diffrent classes sPVP and the only one im loosing to mes/thief is warrior. With engi/necro i can beat almost every mes 1v1 and most thieves. On the other hand problem for mes is guardian/SMART ranger/ele if he wipes out all clones with single AOE.
And one more – when you go sPVP you can see a lot kitteny thieves/mesmers. Its a proof that that they are not op, needs some skill to be properly used but people are loosing to them, think they are op and then suck.
Let me point out the hypocrisy in your post:
1. You say the problem is players going glass cannon and getting killed in 1 combo by mesmer and theif, ok.
2. But Mesmer and Thief go glass cannon and can kill other glass cannons in one combo. So that isn’t a problem? Is that ok? Shouldn’t other classes be able to do the exact same? There is no trinity in this game, so saying that Thief should be doing the most damage is irrelevant.
3. Even though they are glass cannon, their array of escapes and illusions buffer the fact that they are glass cannon, so that they are no longer that. Other classes do not have this trickery that allows them to negate being squishy.
Its a stroke of luck to wipe out mesmer clones all at once, since they often space and position themselves where you can’t blow them all up at once. I wouldn’t mind the perma illusion cycle if mesmer were very squishy, however they are not. They can take hits quite well. Maybe they should lower their base health to that of guardian, elementist and thief?
I feel that when one finds the real mesmer they should be rewarded for doing so and the mesmer punished. At this time however, that is not the case. In regards to theif, I think they are fine aside from heartseeker and pistol whip. The damage on those skills are entirely too high. Sure, you can bring up hundred blade warrior but the difference is, hundred blades is very very easily avoided due to its long animation times.
Windows 10
I just think the meta has not figured out how to deal with it yet…….. Stop running in and pressing buttons vrs the thief that’s his job…. If you spam race a thief you will loose….. As far as the Mesmer goes… Make sure you have them targeted not an illusion. Hold yourself heal till after they burst you (like with a thief) then rip into them….
Guys gw is not met to be a 1v1 game it takes team work to take down a single person…. Even after all these years I still hear “spike on 6” or “spike my target in 3 2 1”
This is not your mothers mmo……
Its ironic that you are saying that, when Mesmer and Thief are the best 1v1 classes in the game. So according to you, they should require a team to kill other classes with easy too, right?
Windows 10
Guard definitely needs better range options.
I’d say scepter needs buffed in some kind of way. Maybe attack 1 and 2? Because I feel 3 is fine. Imo, attack 1 is too slow and smite (attack 2) radius is too small, damage too low and inconsistent. Sometimes it just seems to miss for no apparent reason and the radius is so tiny that it only takes for a target to slightly move away from it to stop taking damage.
Windows 10
