I think elementalist skill static field kills spirit weapons. It might be a bug though. But the golem boss in COE that has the buffer turrets, would kill my spirit weapons all the time with its static field.

Path 3 CoE. Evolved Destroyer.

My suggestion to fix this fight is to make the jumping platforms just ever-so-slightly closer together, and possibly make the shield stay down for a few extra seconds (3ish).

The biggest problem right now is that it is virtually never worth the risk of having your laser operators go down to DPS the destroyer (for pugs/most groups). Here are the problems that lead to this high trade off:

1. WIth perfect coordination, the shield drops in one “round” of lasers but a tiny error can cause it to take two rounds. It is not always clear if laser operators should start jumping down immediately after their first round, since they might be needed for a second, but waiting for a second round that never comes means losing nearly all of your DPS time on the Destroyer.

2. Many builds have relatively low DPS, long ramp-up times, or are just operated by more “average” players. I’ve never fought this boss with a group that could kill him in 2 passes—5 was the quickest I cleared it with all 5 players DPSing. That’s a huge difference. The fight is going to be long, which makes a safer strategy even more appealing than it otherwise would be.

3. It is ridiculously easy to fall into the lava on your trip back up. I’ve tried the jumps after the boss is dead and they feel about right, meaning it is overkill for a boss fight jumping puzzle because of the combat speed penalty. Players that die have a ridiculously long run back (welcome to CoE!) which far outweighs the seconds they shave off by going down to DPS.

4. Unless you depart super-early from the Destroyer’s platform, you will not be back in position at your laser the very second they are available. This makes coordination marginally harder (if all players were in place you’d simply activate immediately), but more importantly—it is lost dps time! If it takes you, say, 6 seconds to get everyone in position and coordinated, you’ve gained very little with this high risk strategy. If you leave his platform early enough to get back, you’ll have cut your DPS time short anyway, so same problem.

5. Most ranged classes can auto attack from the top area and still hit the Destroyer, thanks to parabola trajectories at such great heights reaching far beyond their max range.

So, you have a jumping puzzle that should get most of its difficulty from the Dragon’s Tooth threats/knockbacks but instead gets it difficulty from “Nintendo-hard, jump from the last pixel, with swiftness, or die” design. This pretty much guarantees an average player is going to fall in, at least once, if your pug sends all 5 players in each time.

You lose DPS time by sending all 5 in, and especially with average players and many builds, you barely come out ahead with this strategy.

The cost of any tiny error is so high, and the payoff so low. People don’t voluntarily sacrifice 60% of their group’s DPS because they LIKE ten minute, AFK-bosses. They do because it is usually the better strategy, despite being a terrible experience itself—which says a lot.

Two tiny changes would make the fight many orders of magnitude better, without really affecting your phenomenal groups that kill it in 30 seconds. Adjust the jumping distance; tweak the shield timer.

This is spot on.

The biggest problem about the platform jumping is once you are in combat you are much much slower. So it makes jumping back up very hard. The best solution would be to make it a stair case and not three platforms.

the reason I had to increase his range was due to an exploit players could take advantage of to afk during the fight with auto attack on and easily win it.

As for his health, he already has half the normal health of other legendary creatures, and his toughness is scaled down as well. I don’t imagine I will lower his health down any further since I have watched groups kill him in just 2 tries.

You guys would do well to listen to the community. Evolved Destroyer is quite possibly the worst boss in GW2. He isn’t challenging, he is boring. Three people literally just spam F on the laser cannon and two people do a mini puzzle to go dps him for 5secs. Then jump back into the lava and repeat….. No one wants to run coe path three due to how long and tedious the fight is.

Everything is wrong with it. How can you guys go from a actual challenging boss fight (subject alpha), to this???

At the very least, you guys should tone down the damage the lava does. Or put a closer way point if you want players to risk their lives jumping in it.

Also, Guardian spirit weapons can’t hit him. They get stuck around the platform.

Week of 11/30: SOS vs SBI vs JQ

Hi everyone,

There has been some chat of exploits and acussations as usual going on here. Please refrain from that behaviour as it is punishable. If you suspect someone from cheating or hacking, use the in game report tool but refrain from bringing the discussion here.

Thanks

Out of curiosity…why are only SOME posts regarding exploits and such being deleted from the thread? How do you choose? There are some very inflammatory posts still here, and yet you delete a post that is merely agreeing with a previous post about noticing a bug involving teleporting into a tower on accident.

Just trying to understand your decision-making process when deciding to delete posts…if you have one.

If you find a method to the madness, please do share with the rest of the class.

As for SBI’s score, what is going on? Everyone seems to have more or less just given up and moved on to other stuff. Outmanned buff is becoming increasingly common. :/

From what I’ve seen, SBI doesn’t have the numbers to deal with two server forces attacking them at once. Being in 2nd place seems like the worst position, first place constantly sieges you because they don’t want you to catch up in points. Third place constantly sieges you because they want to become second place. lol

Will Guardian shouts ever be fixed?

About those elite tomes: I can definitely hear those voice clips when a guardian uses them in proximity to me.

Not sure about the shouts though. I’m actually a shout-reliant build and I’ve never thought about whether or not my teammates can hear my shouts. The shouts work as they’re meant to functionally speaking, so I guess that’s why I’ve never considered it.

No one in my party ever heard the guardian shouts while using tomes. Nor have I ever heard any other guardians. And nope….no guardian shouts can be heard. It would be really helpful if they did work as warriors do.

Currently my female Guardian does not shout “Hold the Line” and worst off allies can not hear the shouts. Warrior shouts are heard by everyone so I assume Guardians are suppose to be the same?

I’m also assuming that others are suppose to hear the shouts spoken with the tome elites as well.

Will this ever be fixed?

Guardian Shouts...

in Guardian

Posted by: Aza.2105

Aza.2105

It’s important for other players to hear the shouts. It’s an audible queue that they have stability for example. That’s important if you want them to change their game play at that moment (one example: not spend their own stability buff because they see the same knock-down coming).

Otherwise nobody knows they just received stability (unless they are actively scanning their buff icons).

In a twitchy game like GW2, it’s bad to not have the guardian shouts audible.

I agree, its quite important for players to hear the shouts. Right now, I have to manually tell people on vent that I’m doing xxx shout. Its quite annoying, along with the missing shout audio for certain races. I’m actually surprised none of this has been fixed…..well not really that surprised seeing anet doesn’t read the guardian forums.

in WvW

Aza.2105

Anet should go ahead and actually give counter-stealth skills, i.e. True Seeing/Heightened Senses/Detect Illusion or something like that. Portal attacks, imo, benefit too much from Anet’s awful stealth implementation.

This is something I do not understand about GW2. In GW1 no skill was left unchecked. I’m saying each skill had a skill that could negate it. Knockdown had balance stance type skills, then there were skills that removed stances. If you were fighting a hex heavy group you could make a build that was anti hex. I’m sure everyone gets what I’m saying.

None of that is in GW2, many things are left unchecked and unlike the original game. Everyone patiently waits for the developers to nerf or boost skills. Were as before it was more so up to the individual to intelligently create a counter build.

There should certainly be stealth detection and it should be given to every class in some way, since we can’t choose a secondary class to borrow skills from.

What is happening with the downed state?

Well they could remove downed state and re-add rez signet from guild wars 1. And make it a utility skill so that way no one takes it. Then what will happen is, when you die in pvp you will realize that no one has a rez signet and then make a post complaining about that.

I actually like this idea though. Downed state feels a bit fisher price and really is the least enjoyable aspect of this game to me. That’s just my opinion.

lol no you wouldn’t.

it would bring finality to the fights without that sense of …. blah in between. Plus i played GW1 (through all expansions, not one of those 1 week players) and understand the severe frustration with people NOT bringing res signets and would take that in a heartbeat over the extreme feeling of ……………….. that downed state brings (both from my own and dealing with others in theirs).

It would actually be better for them to give ranger’s the frozen soil spirit than to bring back the old rez system. The downed state is a lot better imo.

Ranged Attacks and Guardians good or bad

in Guardian

Posted by: Aza.2105

Aza.2105

Guardian range attacks range from poor to mediocre. Staff skill # 2 is a decent skill since it has been buffed, but the staff has never been considered a ranged alternative for guardians anyway.

The scepter is our only “real” range weapon. But it has a lot of issues. Skill 1 is entirely too slow to be effective at range. And skill # 2 divides its damage based upon the amount of targets in the area. So its not a true aoe and worse of all its not a symbol, even though it looks like one.

If they buffed the speed of scepter skill 1 like they did the staff version and changed skill # 2 into a symbol, limit the amount of targets it can hit to 5 and allow full damage on all of them. Then I’d say scepter would be a good ranged weapon imo.

Nice to see all the sore losers from JQ show back up at the entrance to the EB JP in the last few days. But from what I have seen in the past 2 weeks, I guess JQ didn’t get to T1 for being honorable gamers.

BTW whatever thief that is camping in there that is 2 hitting me while remaining stealthed the whole time, nice build, I have 2k tough and 23k hp.

Ha ha, that was me I think i killed you like twice or three times while you were running down the stairs trying to get portaled or to the invis fountain? BTW you were one of the few that I couldn’t kill through the duration of the basilisk venom stun.

Protip: Use a stun breaking spell/utility, you just stood there while I pwned on you for over 2 seconds..

He probably couldn’t see you. I can understand why so many people complain about thieves. Mainly…stealth. Its not your fault or any other players fault. The devs should be ashamed that such a issue is still around.

I don’t want to exaggerate but, many times when I encounter thieves they are stealthed the entire time while attacking me. I only see the visible for maybe 4-5 secs, which during that period they are on the run. Then they stealth again and go perma invisible.

I’m not talking about in the BL, but specifically EB. There was definitely a 2 v 1 going on. I’m not saying its not fun, its the nature of the game for two weak sides to gang up on the stronger one. But it doesn’t seem possible in that situation to actually come up on top.

Scepter needs to be reworked to be more effective at range.

I’ve used mine maybe twice, and only when the swarm of enemies was just too thick for me to survive being in the middle. I think that’s really the only time we would use it, so it needs to be designed for that purpose.

Give Scepter a ranged crippling combo field, faster orbs, orb chain, larger Smite…or something

Trident skills are what scepter skills should be. Specifically trident skill #3.

it doesn’t take a level 80 Guardian to admit that their ranged weapons, the Scepter and Staff, are not the best tools in the game.

Um…..Scepter/Torch is the highest output dps for guardian, more than the greatsword. It’s also amazing for range.

I wield a Greatsword accompanied by a Mace and Shield, specing directly into a complete set of gear focusing on Power, Vit. , and Toughness.

If you are using mace and shield which is the best support set as guardian make healing your primary, toughness, vit, then precision.

The greatsword is nice, but not for support builds (dungeons mean you need to support teammates), and if you are doing it for damage glass cannon? you are still doing it wrong. The weapon Scepter is far more superior than the GS. Yeah most people would rather carry a kitten sword than a wand like a fairy, but at the end of the day you can make way better specter torch builds than GS and you are more versatile. IMO GS is only good for PvE farming, hearts, quest, events, ect…. The only support is the symbol “IF” you get the trait where all symbols heal. But you have to take in account only the melee people will be near it, and it is small, so you would have to get all symbols are larger. Overall Greatsword is just not worth it in dungeons, and people have to get over it.

While you bring up some valid points, you seem to forget that GreatSword does support teammates. It has the most combo finishers out of all guardian weapons. Making it easy to spread boons and conditions from ally combo fields.

I don’t think most people understand the plight of the OP. Its very simple to understand:

Guardian ranged attacks are hot garbage. Hands down the worst in the game. So due to this issue most Guardian players probably do not run around with their range weapon.

Scepter’s skill 1 is too slow and is better in melee range.

Scepter’s skill 2, most mobs will just run out the small aoe.

Scepter’s skill 3, is a immobilize. Handy, best skill scepter has.

Staff is primarily a support weapon. You won’t do much dmg using skill 2 due to the cooldown.

So there you have it, Guardian ranged options are bare minimum. And do not blame players who choose not to want to use them. They have a excuse, might as well do support than to deal with using those atrocious skills that anet has classified as ranged attacks.

Is GW2 still not optimized for GPU yet?

in Account & Technical Support

Here is the problem:

1. Guild Wars is cpu dependent like someone mentioned in this thread. You can identify a CPU dependent game by doing the following:

Write down your FPS at max settings and resolution, then change to the lowest resolution possible. If the FPS remain the same or close to the same then the game is CPU limited. Because if it was GPU limited, then the FPS would increase significantly.

2. The game as mentioned is CPU dependent but its primarily single threaded. I think there maybe a thread for sound and perhaps physics? Thats it though. Its quite sad that we are in the year 2012 and developers still do not take advantage of multi core cpus.

I’m happy you’re ok with mediocre weapons, and abilities.

I want to see your 1.8k crits, and what you’re giving up to attain that, which almost sounds like a pure damage build, where you’ll have roughly 12k HPs, and die if anyone in WvWvW breaths on you.

I have four classes at 80, all exotic gear as follows; Ranger, Warrior, Guardian, and Thief.

My Warrior build provides at least five times, yes 5x the damage my Guardian can do, and can provide the following buffs permanently; Regeneration, Fury (20% Crit), and three stacks of Might (+105 Power/Condition Damage) to myself, and the entire group I’m with, on top of the +10% Critical Damage, which is also applied all but 2 seconds it takes to wait for my banner recast time.

When moving the Banner also provides a permanent Swiftness while carrying it, because I can recast it, before the original timer is off. By the time I’m done, or decide not to cast these buffs, there is a 2 minute timer before they expire.

So excuse me if I’m not ok with Empower, and Symbol of Swiftness, when I can provide so much, so easily on my Warrior, and give up virtually no damage, while my Guardian seems lackluster in the department you think they would excel at.

Then play your warrior?

How does this fix anything? Seriously. This ‘If you don’t like it, then leave.’ kind of mentality is atrocious and does not encourage positive discussion. Granted you posted a very nice and thought out post and personal observation from playing with staff Aza, but when other people come in with valid arguments telling them to ‘leave’ rather than debating them just quashes any form of respectable discussion.

Oh I agree with what you are saying. But what am I suppose to do? Try to change his mind? I’m not here to do that, I only offered another perspective that he was welcome to consider. If he doesn’t want to try it thats fine too.

He made numerous comparisons to warrior and is basically stating that warrior is doing what he wants guardian to do. So why not just play one?

Personally, I think the staff is ok. The only thing I think makes staff very awkward is skill #1, every other skill is 1200 range while that one is 600 range. And fix the bugs with skill #2.

Then again, I guess the joke’s on us. We fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Yes you are right.

They are businessmen, what better way than to lie to your player base to increase the amount of them? They are implementing treadmill grinding in small doses, so they can limit the complaints. But soon enough, everyone will wake up to find that the game is a complete grindfest and wonder what happened? Because they failed to see the signs beforehand.

I use to think the staff was crap for a long time, until I forced myself to play with it. Just to see if its viable. My conclusions is staff is probably the best weapon for event farming and aoe.

1. Wave of Wrath has short range yea, but its a piercing aoe with no cd. Spec right it hits for around 1.8k crits I think. Biggest problem with it is, its sort of boring. There isn’t any combo chain and it doesn’t do anything special.

2. Orb of Light is another great piercing skill. It has long range, does great damage and can heal if you detonate. It has its problems, like it tends to get stuck in terrain a lot. I don’t feel it should detonate on impact, rather if the orb reaches its max range that it simple disappears.

3. Symbol of Swiftness doesn’t need to be changed. But the skill not properly stacking and sometimes not applying does need to change.

4. Empower doesn’t need a change, it does so much already. Movement would be good too, but I’m not sure if its necessary.

5. Line of Warding of course is fine as it is. Except how enemies can dodge through it.

P.S

Put superior sigil of fire on your staff if you want to do damage with it. It also goes very well with a virtues build that revolves around condition damage and spirit weapons.

Alpha Seriously Should Not Target Non-Players

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Aza.2105

Aza.2105

I can’t believe anyone can sit here and disagree with the idea of aoes shouldn’t target npcs. What is the logic behind that? You do not control them like you control yourself.

Lets get something straight, I clear submarine and teleport path daily with my static group. We successfully do this each night. First off, you can’t melee tank alpha in the teleport path, because he has the ice aoe. Which will kill most in one hit if they are caught in the middle of it. Which then leads to something else, if you start to rez them, he will target those rezing with more aoes.

The best way to fight alpha in teleport path is if you have ranged players, spaced out so circles do not overlap and melee stacked up on each other. This way it makes it easier to dodge when needed. Otherwise it becomes almost impossible to see if you should stand still for the earth aoe or dodge for the ice aoe.

The biggest issue with this fight is the fact that it forces players to take certain traits and skills. Mainly vigor related traits, since normally you can only dodge twice but with alpha he constantly does aoes making dodging constantly impossible unless you trait for some sort of endurance return. The next issue is how he targets pets, objects and npcs. This is a problem, since you do not directly control the movement of the two latter.

It causes unnecessary aoe and completely ruins any positioning and strategy you may have. And again, it forces the player not to use certain builds. So one begins to be forced into using a cookie cutter type build.

In fact, aggro, targeting should be completely removed from npcs. Even in TA, the npc was a problem. She would train spiders on the entire group on the spider path tree boss and for the bee puzzle she would pull bees upon the group who made it across.

Again, these type of problems need to be changed.

Well they do have rare materials that drop from specific dungeons. Onyx cores drop from TA, charged cores drop from COE. Problem is….they just don’t drop frequently enough.

Apparently the OP has had bad experiences with dungeons. So he, like many others with bad experiences want anet to change dungeons solely for them.

1. In most cases you were in a poorly coordinated group and failed. I don’t recall ever having to dodge every sec of my dungeon experience. What I do recall is dodging when I see a big attack coming or using skills to negate or mitigate damage if I so happened to prematurely use up my endurance.

2. GW2 doesn’t have team play like chain stunning a mob to death while your friend nukes in the back? Sounds lame and mindless. GW2 has combos, which are very helpful, use them.

I do not want to project, but it appears your idea of fun comes from the sensation of having monsters being not very challenging. I do agree with your other problem about items being exclusive to specific dungeons.

This can be problematic, since it can force players to run the same dungeons repeatedly to obtain what they want. While not being able to experience another dungeon. Dungeons do have different paths however, which takes a bit away from the dungeon runs becoming stale. However, I’m not sure if this is quite enough.

I imagine if tokens for example were universal, all that would happen is everyone would pick the dungeon they found the most easiest to complete. Which would be worse than what we have now.

hammer/scepter build?

in Guardian

Posted by: Aza.2105

Aza.2105

As a general rule for PvE you don’t go hammer/anything. Hammer has no CDs to recharge on swap and the auto isn’t strong enough to justify sitting on for ten seconds only.

If you do want to use hammer you should commit to going 100% full support and just auto-attack to spam protection, and give up on DPS, because it isn’t going to happen, not with a hammer. If you want to do a support/DPS hybrid mace/scepter/gs + staff is probably your best best.

this guy is unbelievably wrong. mighty blow in your hammer’s light field is some of (if not THE) highest DPS available to a guardian. to be honest, there’s a sticky up at the top called “AH hammer gameplay” or something like that which will show you basically exactly how to do what you’re asking with ridiculous detail. i actually just started playing around with it yesterday in dungeons (been running a guardian since head start only used hammer sparringly) and found that i could not only out-dps my GS, but that the hammer really does support altruistic healing better than just about any other weapon. if that doesn’t form the core of support based DPS, i’m not sure what does.

That guide is based on so many wrong assumptions I don’t even know where to begin with it. I suspect hammer is popular just because it’s an easy weapon to use (you can just run in and auto-attack) but it’s not actually that good compared to the other options you have as guardian.

As a matter of fact if you do want to run a hammer build you’ll have to resign yourself to taking ten minutes to kill anything. You could go Hammer/GS and just never actually use the hammer? I dunno.

No….

Hammer has the best combo finishers out of all the Guardian weapons. The blast finisher on might blow is fantastic. With healing springs under your feet, fire combo fields etc, you can buff and heal everyone around you. No other Guardian weapon does it that consistently.

CoE Path 2.. in my opinion.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Subject Alpha is annoying but totally easy once you know what you are doing. The only real trouble is when he repeatedly covers the room in aoes. This presents a problem for players who don’t have vigor return in their build. You only can dodge twice before recharging by default.

Personally, I can tank Subject Alpha all day, even when I’m crystallized I can survive his aoe attacks. But like I said, his mechanics discourage builds that do not use vigor return mechanics. And that seems to be adverse to having build options in the first place.

Aside from that, the biggest issue in COE is front door path. The destroyer boss either needs to be reworked or his hp lowered significantly. No one does front door path because of it.

You have 10 secs to dps him before the shield comes up. Actually much less since you have to make your way down to the platforms to dps him. Then you either have to time your jump perfectly to hoop back up, since you are in combat it makes jumping difficult due to to the slow speed. If you don’t make it, you take a nice trip to the lava which kills you near instantly and you have to take 30secs+ to run all the way back.

Its the worst boss fight in the game, very poorly designed.

Ranger swap pet (Hint) Bugged

Pressing f4 to swap pets does not yield the completion of this hint. I’ve tried multiple times, in pve and pvp. It does not work sadly. I’ve even tried making the pet take damage then pressing f4 to swap and still it does nothing.

"These skills are useless" Thread.

I can give a list and some decent reasoning to each. Debate please.

Shelter: Again, not terrible but the 2 second block doesn’t make up for healing almost half as much as SoR on a similar CD when traited.

I’m fairly certain that when you combine shelter with might of the protector and you have altruistic healing you get healed for each stack of might you gain. So when you are fighting multiple enemies with that setup, it makes shelter the superior choice out of all the other heals.

It does but I think only two seconds of block won’t really do much especially when compared to the warriors shield block for 5 seconds.

So? The warrior skill doesn’t heal you either and its not a utility skill. So its not the same.

From what I see:

Signet of Resolve: Good for when you are dps

Shelter: Good for when you are a tank

Healing Breeze: Good for when you are support

Why were dungeons added to the monthly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Love dungeons, but not in this particular game. No trinity is the reason, so it ends up being a mindlessly chaotic GY zerg most of the time. Boring. Dungeons here are far from the calibre of say that other game so I really dunno what more I can say.

Will attempt this monthly, but I will certainly not enjoy it.

No, its just the groups you are in or perhaps you. GY zerg is a result of poor groups with poor coordination.

GW2 probably has some of the most coordinated and strategical dungeons that I’ve seen in any mmo. And this is because it doesn’t require the redundant tank, heal and dps combination. Its all about skill and how you use them.
